Avis sur El Tacoqueto Tulum
Excellent food and friendly service. Feels family run and authentic. No menus, just head to the open kitchen and choose what you’d like. Chicken mole was our favorite. Recommended to us by a local friend, can’t wait to go back again!
Very good local food. We really liked the chicken soup and the pepper stuffed with cheese. The fruit drinks were also great - made fresh right in front of us. Most of the people there were locals. The prices were fairly low.
Great food! Fast service. You can choose from already made food to made to order dishes. This breakfast was only 205 pesos =12.8 dollars. Chilaquiles rojos and huevos Ala Mexicana along with a coke and coffee. We also went another time and ordered two fresh melon waters and two dishes for 265 pesos. Very cheap prices for good food.
If you're in search of truly authentic regional cuisine, El Tacoqueto is an absolute must-visit. As one of Tulum's oldest MX owned restaurants, boasting over 20+ years of history on this street in Tulum, it's where the locals go for a taste of tradition. Don't expect a menu or English-speaking staff, or even published prices. This is a place where authenticity reigns supreme, serving up delicious dishes crafted from locally-sourced ingredients. Upon stepping inside, you'll be warmly greeted and guided to your table, where you'll be treated to fresh salsa and handmade tortillas to accompany your meal. For drinks, choose between 1-liter bottles of Coke or freshly-made Aguas Frescas. Then, venture to the back to peruse the day's offerings, typically featuring 4 to 5 dishes ranging from classic Mole to various stewed meats with rice and beans, alongside a homemade chicken soup. Don't worry if you're not fluent in Spanish; simply point out your preferences, and the friendly staff will gladly serve up your selections. And when you've savored every last bite, simply request the check – all for less than $5 USD, a steal considering the quality and flavor bursting from every dish. El Tacoqueto won't just fill your belly; it'll tantalize your taste buds with recipes passed down through generations, crafted with love and care. It's a haven for those who appreciate locally-owned gems and are eager to explore the culinary wonders of the region. P.S. Trust us on this – their chicken soup is hands down the best I've tasted in my 50 years! While other reviewers have raised concerns about the so-called 'Gringo Tax' = reported instances of being overcharged, we did not encounter such issues during our visit. I was dining with a longtime, many decades visitor of Tulum and patron of the establishment—a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, who had proficient Spanish-speaking skills, while I have brown hair, brown eyes, and dark skin, with only enough Spanish to order a meal. I found that my soup and one-liter bottle cost less than $5 USD. It's worth noting that some individuals have expressed dissatisfaction with paying $10.75 USD for a full plate of food and a drink. Comparatively, expat-owned restaurants in the vicinity of Tulum charge around $18 for an entrée and $5-10 USD for a beverage. However, this local establishment lacks the trendy BOHO decor and live edge native hardwoods. Despite any perceived differences, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the restaurant, appreciating both the hospitality of the staff and the quality of the cuisine.
One of the only authentic spots on the main strip. Affordable, great food and lovely people. They don't have a menu but we ordered vegetarian fajitas and they were great!
Authentic, fresh Mexican Cuisine. Extremely well priced. There is no menu but don't let that deter you from coming. If you are vegetarian ask for vegetarian fajitas. If you want good quality meat as well you can order pollo fajitas. Do not leave this place without having their Agua Frescas, with lots of different fruit types, they are all delicious and plentiful.
We were invited in a friendly manner. My cousin and I were called princesses. This place takes cash only. They don’t have a set menu, only what they are offering for the day. The kitchen is clean and the staff are properly covered. I got huevos rancheros and an horchata and paid about $200 pesos. As the minutes passed this place became packed. Would definitely return again and recommend to others. My beans were just slightly cold.
Amazing homemade food. I had chicken adobo and the softest tortillas. Fruit juices are made fresh in house. Must try for mexican food. Value for money
The staff was nice and put together tables to accommodate our party of 8. The food was good. The portions were good. Afforable. It was cafeteria style where the food was already cooked in big batches. We're a family of 4 and spent 350 MXN pesos.
First of all: The tacos were very good! We liked the food a lot. However, some things were weird and it seemed that they just chose their prices for tourists very randomly. If they calculated correctly, this was the most expensive bottle of water we had in Mexico. There was no menue, which was fine for itself and we had ordered four tacos each, a tamarindo and two bottles of water. When we paid, first the waiter told us it was 240 pesos, then he asked if it was one or two waters. We said that we had two, so he asked for 300 pesos and went to his colleague. After a while he came back and apologized that he didn‘t know the price of water and asked for 360 pesos. Anyways, food was good, pricing was unclear and it seemed that we paid more than usual. That is why we won‘t go there again. Just go if you speak good Spanish to discuss with them. We rather pay a bit more but have clearly calculated invoice. A pity, could have been great.
Basic Mexican food - tried tacos, tortas and quesadilla. Food was nothing special compared to other similar places - similarly priced and similar taste. "Waiter" tried to increase price for our items by 50% even though we saw the menu prices - similar other review reference this same pattern. Very pathetic behavior. Also tables are quite dirty and they don't clean them very well between the customers.
