I often find myself in small towns on Sunday mornings looking for a place eat breakfast and I normally try to find a local diner. Without fail there will always be a table full of older gentlemen having breakfast and talking. In most towns the old guys might look up and acknowledge you. Here the guys spoke to us and were really friendly. Oh yeah! The food was really good too and the service was outstanding.
We stopped here on our way from concan back home and we were looking for a place to eat and we wanted something with variety so when we passed by this restaurant with a full parking lot we decided to eat here. Everything was superb from the super fast service to their lunch specials of fried fish (soooo delicious) and cheeseburgers which even came with a slice of cake. My mom who is so hard to please and picky with food left every plate empty from how much she enjoyed the food and even took an extra plate of fried fish to go for home. Highly recommend!!!
My favorite spot in Uvalde for breakfast and lunch. Staff is friendly and engage in conversation. Food is great and filling. Love the chicken enchiladas. Omelets are good too. Chicken fried steaks are homemade as well are the tortillas.
1st time here so giving then 4 stars. Will probably give 5 on next visit. Definitely will be a next visit! Very clean, dining room is maintained well. Building is old but very loved by owners. You see & feel the pride in the service & food. Food it seasoned. Not “salted”. Hubby had chicken fry, baked potato & green beans with tomatoes & salad. Chicken fry was as large as plate! I had Fried fish. It was tilapia not catfish ( I hate catfish) baked potato, green beans with tomatoes & salad. Hubby’s dinner was gone before I got to take my 3rd bite! He loved it!! I was excited because everyplace else does catfish. Will definitely have it again. Tea was perfect & served with LIME! Service was very friendly & very attentive. No bickering over who serves what to whom. Everyone helped when it got busy, with smiles & laughed while they worked. Now that I think back on my experience at Sunrise I’m changing my rating to 5 stars. I don’t think they can improve anything. Straight up AWESOME!
This place is really good...we always stop by when we're passing thru
A local favorite for breakfast and lunch. My chicken fried steak was large and tasty. Fresh cold side salad was on point. Fast and friendly service treat you like family.
Great find along our way to Corpus Christi! Breakfast was awesome, service was fast and price was right! You won't be disappointed stopping here...check them out.
You can't ask for a better breakfast. Coffee is amazing & you must try their hot sauce. A little goes a long way. **Just tried the taco plate. Tacos are crispy and cooked to the brim. I rarely eat fried beans, but these are homemade and delicious. Hubby had Sunrise burger & he loved it. Fries are slightly over done, but overall super meal.
Local favorite everyone seemed to walk in and know someone. seat yourself. food was very good. service was great. Prices were very reasonable
Its a must when we are in Uvalde. The food is always great, no matter what we get to eat. The staff is always welcoming, friendly, and on it. Prices are very reasonable! Definitely worth the visit!
I go to sunrise for breakfast at least 4 days a week, the food is always consistently very good, best in uvalde by far. The staff and owner are always polite ,always cheerful, and accommodating. Even when the restaurant is packed and they are always short staffed they really work hard and the wait time is never more than 5 minutes for service t refill drinks incredible place and a pleasure to dine in
The steak sandwich, hamburger and onion rings are really good. The 2 waitresses were really impressive quickly clearing tables, and waiting on the steady flow of customers. You could tell there were several regulars that just sat down, and the waitress knew exactly what to bring them before they ordered.
We've eaten here several times, and each time the food has been delicious! The service has been excellent and, no matter what we order, the food is always hot and fresh. We are so glad we discovered this little gem!!
wonderful diner! i had their fried chicken sandwich which was the bomb!! the breading was very light and the chicken breast very moist! i was very impressed with the quality of the food and the service.
One of our favorite places to eat in town. Best crispy tacos I’ve ever had and their chicken fried steak is also ginormous and delicious. The owner and staff are super friendly and attentive and never let your drink glass go empty. Only downside is a small up charge for paying with a credit card.
Chicken fried steak was great. Onion rings were fantastic too! Will go back very soon for more to try more items.
Hometown feel!!! Small place and everybody knows everybody. Nice to see!! Staff, especially Kelsey, was sweet and helpful!! I ordered a chicken fried steak and it was HUGE!!! So good!! My husband really enjoyed his double meat hamburger!! We were very pleased about the whole experience!! Felt like true TEXAS!!
We stopped here on the way home after a weekend camp out in Barksdale. Rosemary, the owner, took care of us and it was a fantastic experience. I have learned that when I get an immediate answer to "If you want me to come back what should I have?" I will get 1) excellent food and 2) excellent service. Rosemary immediately told me to get the chicken fried steak with two eggs, potatoes, and toast. Then she brought out salsa and demanded that I put it on my eggs. She also called my friend "missy" for changing his order. 😅 We loved it. Anytime we're in the area we would definitely stop here. Others in our group got the French toast, the pancakes, and breakfast tacos. None we're disappointed.
Driving through Uvalde and I am so glad we stopped at Sunrise. The food and service were exceptional. The buttermilk pie was as good as my grandmother's. Every plate was delicious and, clearly, made with love and family recipes. Fresh and high quality ingredients. An absolute treat and a Texas treasure in a historical building.
Wow. What a gem. This is a must try if you find yourself in Uvalde, Tx. The chicken fried steak is one if the best I’ve ever had; thick tender meat and crispy crust. The gravy was very flavorful. Even the french fries were cooked right; crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. My only regret was trying to finish the whole thing. It came with a side salad and toast for $12.
Great Lunch !! Hamburger was tasty with very fresh ingredients on a slightly toasted bun. Onion rings were lightly dipped and fried delicious. French Fries are thick crinkle cut, nice crisp outside but soft inside. Chicken Fried Steak was fork tender with a light crispy batter and cream gravy, very tasty !!
It’s in a old town yet people are hard working and very friendly, I wish this place was in Houston Tx lol, but it was so good definitely recommend
Tea with every entree. Also a slice of dessert. Ordered fish and shrimp combo. No other options but coleslaw and french fries offered with purchase. Prices are extremely reasonable. Good food. My parents love this spot. So for them, 5 stars.
This was our first time trying the restaurant. We went for breakfast. When we arrived we seated our self, as I assume one does in this restaurant. I would suggest a sign saying as much, but whatever it all worked out in the end. The coffee was fantastic, often times restaurant coffee is bold and overpowering, this was smooth and flavorful. The waitress was attentive and never allowed the coffee to run out. When the food arrived I was surprised that the eggs were cooked perfectly, most places overcook eggs and you end up with yellow rubber balls. Some of the potatoes were slightly underdone, but not enough to bother me or to complain about. The biscuits were fantastic as was the gravy. A must for any one who is a fan of breakfast. Will be returning.
Exceptional quality food. You can tell everything here is done with fresh ingredients. Very fast and courteous staff a as well. Eat here if you can
Nice place with great service! The food was great! I wasn't aware this place existed when a friend brought me for breakfast! I now have a new favorite breakfast restaurant in town!

We’re not from the area, but we’re so glad we stopped here! The food was absolutely delicious 🤤 with an authentic taste that truly stood out. When we arrived, we were told they were short-staffed, but despite that, the service was impressively fast—we were served within 10 minutes. Great experience all around. Highly recommend!
Great place to eat! Fast, friendly service.
I was passing through with my family and stop and ate here. I’m very picky about my food. I give this place 10/10 the chicken fried steak is huge and delicious. Don’t even get me started on the customer service. They made sure our drinks stayed filled, and kept asking us if we need anything. I love them. And if I pass through again will definitely stop again. Thank yall for making us feel so welcomed.
We go here for the food! It is the always on point! Laid back atmosphere, usually quick service. Wait time for food is always fair to quick.
On our drive home from camping at Seminole Canyon SP, we were starving and needed some food. Found this place and heard the chicken fried steak was the meal to get at this little place. Walked in and enjoyed a seat by the window. Not much vegetarian options for my friend, but his son got a double burger and I got the chicken fried steak. My friend didn't think I could eat it all and after the first bite, it was challenge accepted. Got to talking to the waiter and he mentioned they buy their meat locally and you could tell it was a good piece battered and fried. I got 2 sunny side eggs with it to soak up the plate and I do have to say this was the best CFS that I have had in a long time. I also got a Menudo to go as I was eating, but they forgot to put the order in and in the rush, the top lid cracked and it leaked out on way home. This was a bummer, since I was hoping to have it the next day before work. Besides this mess, I really recommend this place.

Food was good and hot. The only thing is the potatoes that they serve with certain meals for breakfast they have no flavor. No salt, no spice.. The server was a young man , he was great!! If you haven't gone by you need too.
It was good go check them out. Go now get the truck and drive..
This was a good experience. The hamburgers were hand-formed and decently stocked with the works. The onion rings were delicious. I'm docking a star because I couldn't access a menu. Just passing through and having never been here, I placed a to-go order blind by phone 20 minutes out. I ordered "two hamburgers all the way and an order of 8 onion rings." (I've never ordered onion rings by the ring.) I was shocked when the total came to astonishing $27.80. For two burgers and rings? I ordered two burgers, NOT two burgers and fries yet each burger came with fries. That's an obscene amount of food. My husband and I would have most certainly shared one burger and a side of fries. Also, their webpage needs to be updated. It's barely a page at all. No menu, no photos, just an inquiry page. I did find out later that the total included a small tip my husband opted to give.
We went with the reviews when getting lunch on our way back home, their food was delicious and the sizes just right.
Omelets, beans and potatoes oh my! Great little local breakfast place that made you feel like home. Servers were very kind and friendly and the food was hardy and filling. Oh yeah... always get a side of Ranchero sauce... sooo good.

We liked the food, a chicken fried steak dinner and cheeseburger with crinkle fries and a side of onion rings. The waitress was nice and the service was good. The decor was pretty with the American flag, wool Native American blankets, and some pretty Christmas lights. Very nice to see. The only issue we had was the cleanliness during a pandemic. The employees weren’t wearing masks when filling the sauce cups, and one sneezed. This caused us to lose our appetite on that. The tables weren’t disinfected, just wiped down with the same rag. The condiments were promptly refrigerated but not cleaned with disinfectant first. Just some thoughts for these crazy times.
Decided to have breakfast after a morning hunt at Sunrise Restaurant. I noticed signs on the door and windows that the restaurant was short-staffed. I'm ok with that. I ordered the egg with bacon and 2 biscuits and gravy. After a 30-minute wait (short-staffed) The food arrived and was lukewarm and the biscuits were undercooked. The eggs, like the liquid eggs you get at McDonald's, were cold. I would probably not go back. I checked Google reviews and noticed they've been short-staffed for over a year. FYI
Walked in and everybody stopped to look at us. It was kinda weird. Anyways, we got a double bacon cheeseburger and the hot chicken sandwich. The waitress convinced me not to get onion rings because it "holds up all the orders" which I thought was also a weird thing to tell a patron. The burger and fries lacked salt but it was alright otherwise. I've heard the chicken fried steak is really good but I wouldn't know.

The food was great. The only thing was how we were treated, no respect at all. The restroom was dark and smelled nasty. First and last time coming here
We stopped here on a Sunday on our way home from Brackettville and was not impressed. They were short staffed and all over the place. We ordered bacon cheese fries as an appetizer and when It came it looked as if it was thrown in the microwave so the cheese could melt. My husband had the chicken quesadilla plate which he said was lacking flavor. I had the Mexican plate which also lacked flavor. My beans had a Little Rock in it like someone probably didn’t sort the rocks from the beans in the bag. Not sure about the rest of the food and not willing to try again. I Was never asked if everything was ok or needed anything, they didn’t even offer me a refill on my fountain drink. Oh also these was a fee for using a credit card. We had seen this place before when passing through and decided to give it a try and was so disappointed.
It's okay is really the best description. Certainly not worth driving for, but fine for locals on lunch. Nothing wrong, just nothing good. They also have terrible hours and add a surcharge for credit cards. I don't feel the need to go back

Food was good but both waitress were not polite or friendly to us. I did notice them being super polite and friendly to other locals who they spoke to on a first name basis. Could have been discrimination or just terrible servers? Not sure. The atmosphere in there is quite uncomfortable and unpleasant. Overall I don’t recommend this place for breakfast.
Terrible place. They charged us 2.50 for using the free green sausa. The waitress & owner are loud to tell customers what to do , and very rude . The bathroom was nasty urine all over the floor. I do not recommend!!!
First of all the enchiladas were like just 2 tortillas with stuffed yellow cheese no flavor no sauce the food was not great at all I understand that they were short of staff but why even keep it open if food is not good the appetizer was just soggy tortillas with ground meat....its like if they just cooked everything with no effort at all.
The waiter taking our order looked mad. No smile, had an attitude when telling us to move the table more back, and overall made us feel unwelcome. The food was okay. They need better customer service lol.
Our "waitress", Rosemary, was extremely rude, belligerent, and disrespectful. I had explosive diarrhea immediately after eating here. The staff reacted very suspiciously and will be reported to ICE authorities. Also, there is a tall pole adjacent to the entrance that they allow children to attach their disgusting, used chewing gum from top to bottom. Really Gross! One can only imagine the condition of the kitchen...
