Bully Ranch is hands-down the spot in Vail for burgers and nachos...oh and the TOTS are sooo good. If that’s what you’re craving, nothing else really comes close. Big flavors, perfectly done, and exactly what you want after a day on the mountain—especially when you can wash it all down with a quick beer. If burgers or nachos are on your radar, this is where you’ve gotta go.
This place takes you somewhere else, very good service, good food and you can re connect to the hotel bar.
Good food and service, reasonable prices, and a clean space. It’s not fancy or bougie and a solid place for lunch or dinner.
5 stars for this restaurant. If I could I would give it more stars. I loved the food, I loved the service, I loved the beer, I loved the decoration of the place, the elegance, the view, the atmosphere and the friendly service. My husband and I ordered a juicy and delicious burger with french fries and salad. We ordered beer and this was the best beer I have ever tasted in my life. I love this place♡ I highly recommend it.
I had great time and really enjoyed my dinner. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was really spectacular just like you are in the nature! I had chicken wings, burgers with mushroom sauce, kale salad, tomato soup. ALL of them were 10/10. I would strongly recommend this place for others. Great job guys and keep up the good work!
We had lunch here. I had the pan seared fish with quinoa and carrots. It was delicious! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I also ordered a side Caesar salad because I didn’t think the fish entree would be enough. The two were satisfying. The waiter was attentive and made great suggestions. The other person ordered the fried chicken sandwich. It tasted good as well. Also crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I’d go again.
Been coming here for years and they have really stepped up their game! The Pizza & the Wedge Salad were incredible!
Love the mud slides. Right in Vail village. Such a great place. Food is amazing ! Parking in the structure and it's a short walk.
We didn't have a reservation so we ate at the bar. Which wasn't a problem because the bartender was great. It was a lot fun even though my wife and I don't drink. The food was great. The portions were huge and the flavor was even better.
I was really impressed! The ambience is so clean. It’s almost like it was built yesterday. We started with the bison Shelley that was a healthy portion, which a appreciate, and beautiful garnish is on top. I got the kale salad with quinoa and crest. Farro added chicken and it was absolutely perfect. Exactly what my diet needed.
The portions are great. The burgers are flavorful and juicy, but not all the food was cooked to the same quality. The fries and tots are good too. The coke is on point.
Every time we vacation in Vail we have enjoyed a dinner at Bully Ranch. The menu has definitely evolved over time, so different choices each visit. Food is great and it does get busy, so reservations recommended. This time we enjoyed the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Toasted Farro and Quinoa Power Bowl, flatbread, and a sweet hot chocolate chip cookie a la mode to top it all off. Pleasant service and a lively place.
One of three restaurants located in the Sonnenalp. It's not as high end as the Swiss Chalet or Ludwigs, but Bully Ranch still has solid tavern style food, and the service has always been great. If you are looking for a nice pub style experience, the Bully Ranch Restaurant is a great spot to visit while in Vail Village.
We enjoyed our stop here for lunch. The Hostess was a bit hostile on seating. She wouldn’t allow patrons to sit where they requested. They were not busy. The manager addressed it after 3 different parties came in. That was nice to see it was taken care of. All in all the food was DELICIOUS! It was a nice stop while traveling through Vail.
I’ve never seen this restaurant before but I came upon it because it was one of the few serving late lunch. I was not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. I sat at the bar and the bartender was always attentive. The truffle and Parmesan tots were amazing. The meatballs were good and the addition of the mozzarella cheese gave it a nice creamy texture.
We had lunch today here today and the food was oustanding. We had their Beet salad Peak Burger Bully Bourbon Burger Norwegian Salmon Everything made to perfection with care. Big shoutout to our waiter John. Oustanding job today. We will be again.
First time to this restaurant. Cocktails and food were delicious. When I made a reservation on Open Table, I marked it was down for our wedding anniversary. Bully Ranch surprised us with a delicious chocolate cake slice. I had honestly forgotten I'd selected "anniversary," so this was a pleasant surprise. Thank you for the hospitality!
We had a great experience here for lunch. We had a big crowd, 9 adults and 3 kids, but the wait staff was attentive and worked as a team to take care of us. The wait was reasonable, kids' menus and crayons were provided, and the meal was delicious. The nachos are HUGE and the artichoke dip was probably the best I've ever had. Burgers are the real deal, and I will return again. The desserts were an amazing end to the dining experience.
Beautiful colorful rustic setting. Amazing flavorful dishes and just a great overall experience. Very clean, cozy and uplifting place.
We were visiting in Vail in mid October, which we were NOT aware was considered off season. We took the transit, which is free 👍 and convenient if you don't want to drive and try to find parking, to downtown shopping. It became cold and snowy so we looked for somewhere OPEN to eat lunch, what a great surprise. We ordered the Bully Bourbon Burger, they only serve wagyu beef, we both agreed best burger we have ever eaten and the tomatoe soup was awesome not your everyday tomatoe soup. The atmosphere was awesome, laid back class and very friendly. Not cheap but you are in Vail, but worth it.
Hotels has two great restaurants. Nice outdoor setting and bar. Recommend reservation. Good food and decorations.
Great food. I had berry salad and green chili boar soup. Delish! My server was excellent. Only gripe I have is with the parking ripoff. $45 to park for about an hour? Ridiculous. Thievery, but not reall Bully Ranch’s fault.
Nice spot with good higher end "bar" food. Have some cool beers on tap. $29 for a burger is a little steep, even for Vail standards but food is good.
Loved this place. Everything we had was great. The Truffle Tots, Coca Cola Ribs, Bully Burger, Pizza, Nachos, Wings, and of course the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This place delivered everytime we ate there(3). The best things we ate were the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie. Would highly recommend and will go again if ever back in Vail.
We had a great experience at Bully Ranch in Vail. We ordered a steak and two hamburgers — the steak was absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The hamburgers were also very good, juicy, and well-prepared. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was attentive and friendly. Overall, an excellent dining experience. Highly recommended if you’re in the Vail area!
My husband and I came here for dinner and it was delicious! Service was great and friendly. I think the chicken sandwich was the best I’ve ever had! And my husband loved the burger he got. The tots are amazing too! Will definitely come back next time we’re in Vail!
Great dinner. The Cobb salad and burger were both really good. Our waiter Chris was exceptional. Chris was the best waiter we had in Vail during our stay!
We enjoying a much needed caffeine boost of espresso and cappuccino at the bar here yesterday and were mesmerized by the food, service and ambiance here. It’s like we were transported to a cozy mountain retreat in Austria. We decided we had to come back a little later for dinner and so glad we did. We were greeted warmly by Vinnie who also took our order, and guided us to complete satisfaction! My husband and son both chose the Bison Burger while I had the tomato soup, all memorably delicious choices. I normally don’t even like tomato soup, but Vinnie praised it so highly and I trusted him. There are not enough adjectives to express how truly extraordinary this soup was! It was created by one of world’s culinary gods that has a passion for their craft. And it was certainly enjoyed by this culinary goddess who rarely finds nirvana.
We found this place last minute, after figuring out how much the off season limits availability of restaurants. That said, our experience tonight will probably have us back here, even when more restaurants are back open! We were greeted and seated quickly. The menu provided a lot of delicious options… so being hungry made the decision process more challenging. Our server recommended lots of favorites, highlighting the wings, the bourbon burger, and the fried chicken sandwich. We selected the burger and the chicken sandwich. The food was delicious and served faster than expected. Lots of “layers” to flavor and attention to quality ingredients. A great experience!
This restaurant was nice. I loved the ranch style decor and wood they decorated it with. This restaurant does require reservations. This restaurant pricing was higher than we were anticipating. It was good food and the service was great!
Really awesome place to grab some dinner after a day in the slopes! The chickpea burger was the only thing I was craving and it did not disappoint! They were also able to accommodate our very large party effortlessly!
Everyone loved their food. Ribs had a great sauce and meat fell off the bone (they even give you a bone bowl), burger, chicken sandwich, and wings. And the mudslide drink is noteworthy. Our server was lackluster and perhaps assigned more tables than he could keep up with. I was quite put off by the gum stuck under my chair that I touched when sliding my chair in—they really should check all the chairs for this regularly. The food was great even though the other stuff could use improvement. I did notice the water staff and other servers were doing a great job, so would expect improved service if coming back again, which we would as the food was great, but won’t grab the chair very closely next time… I like that they take reservations. You can valet park your car for a fee or just park in vail public parking and walk.
So we were driving through the mountains and found this place BULLY RANCH restaurant. The atmosphere is really cool! The service was fantastic! I ordered the 16 oz wet aged Fitch farms ribeye med. It was med well and a little chewy with more fat than I think it should have had. It had pretty good flavor. Not worth $75.00 for the steak. Wife and kids had some salads and chicken wings that were ok nothing special. Mainly good environment and service.
We were one of a few tables seated, and the service was great as a result. The food was decent, but the ribs and burger we ordered were nothing to write home about. Their fries, however, were fantastic. Both the sweet potato wedges and French fries were deliciously crisp. The atmosphere was country, and the prices were reasonable for Vail.
TL;DR stay AWAY from the kids menu! I’ve been coming to Bully Ranch regularly for many years and decided to update my review. The service is typically pretty good and has gotten better since they started to allow for reservations. The food is mostly great, just avoid the kids menu. Bully Ranch used to serve smaller servings of their adult menu items but at some point that changed. We ordered the kids pizza and kids steak. The pizza was about the same quality as a lunchable and was equally inedible. You can see in the picture how it compares to their adult pizza which is outstanding. The steak was just ok and the sides seemed like they came from a tv dinner. That all being said, their ribs, vegetarian meatballs with burrata, and Brussels sprouts were wonderful.
And overall great experience, our table had the chicken, Buffalo short rib, 🍔 and pizza. The pizza was a mild disappointment since it was made too soon and sat till the rest of the food was ready. The desserts 🍨 🥧 were excellent, so save room.
Great atmosphere and service! I was a fan of the wings and loved the Outer Range beer. Our server, forget his name, was really great.
The service was amazing. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. Really made our visit and dine in awesome. The food was also great, a little on the higher price point but as to be expected in the area. Buffalo chicken sandwhich and pretty much any of the burgers were delicious and big portioed. Cant say the same for the flat bread pizzas. The flat bread had no give and was pretty much a saltine cracker with cheese and toppings. But dont let that deter you. Again, the sandwiches are awesome!!
Warning - the portions are huge! We ordered nachos, I've skied smaller :) The beef tacos with truffle tots is a meal for two also. We used three boxes to bring the rest back with us. Quality of food was decent and service was friendly (people from all over the world come to work there). Prices are quite high, I uploaded a newer menu, but if you share very reasonable!
Nice place, super attentive and friendly staff. The wagyu bourbon burger with broccolini was delicious. The Caesar Salad with chicken didn't seem worth the price but overall a nice pit stop lunch on our way thru Colorado.
Outstanding Food & Service - A Vail Gem Worth Visiting ⭐⭐⭐⭐ My family visited from out of state and chose Bully Ranch at the Sonnenalp Hotel for dinner, and I’m so glad they did. We booked a 4:30pm reservation, which seemed like the only available slot online—though once we arrived, the restaurant was quite empty and didn’t fill up until closer to 6pm. This appears to be more of a scheduling platform quirk than an actual capacity issue, as there were plenty of tables available for walk-ins. Once seated, the service was attentive throughout our meal. We started with the truffle tots and pulled pork nachos—both were generously portioned and perfect for sharing. The nachos were piled so high with what had to be a pound of pulled pork, guacamole, and sauces that we actually needed extra chips to finish everything at the bottom of the bowl! For mains, our table tried the Cobb salad and ribs. The ribs were phenomenal—flavorful, tender, and even the half rack felt substantial with mac & cheese and coleslaw on the side. Portion sizes across the board were impressive. The only minor issue: the sodas ($5 each) tasted off, clearly a soda machine problem that night. Beyond that, the value for money was excellent, and we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. Tip for future diners: Don’t be deterred by limited online availability—there seems to be more capacity than the reservation system suggests. Early slots might actually give you a quieter, more relaxed dining experience. Would absolutely return.
Food was OK but generally unmemorable. Ribs and wings just ok. Salmon was a hit. Service was very very slow, we didnt get drinks for ~20 mins after sitting down. Will not come back.
I really loved the atmosphere and feel of the restaurant. The service was below average, having to ask for refills repeatedly as well as forgetting to bring a knife for the steak and the time for the server to stop by was quite a bit longer than I am used to at a place with such good reviews and coming highly recommended from friends. The food was also all over the place. The ahi tuna appetizer was incredible as well as the chocolate chip cookie dessert. The salmon was dry and the seasoning wasn’t great, had to add a lot of salt to eat it unfortunately and it was below average. The flatbread pizza was also below average compared to pretty much any pizza place I’ve been to outside of fast food. The filet mignon steak was below average, we went to Longhorn Steakhouse the other day and it was significantly better quality and taste unfortunately than Bully Ranch. I’m guessing they have some other really great menu items but my suggestion would be to know what you’re getting beforehand to make sure it’s worth going, or choosing a different restaurant. There’s so many great options in the area if I’m going to spend a few hundred dollars on dinner for the family I do expect it to be better quality food and service.
We wanted to love this place as it came recommended but sub par would be the best we would give this expierence. Our drinks for 17/20 dollars were not much above pub style. Our bartender who was young and nice had very offensive B.O., which in the service space is an absolute no. The food… we ordered our bourbon burger medium and came out almost well done and the fajitas were also well done, but the fajitas were mostly great. About 1/4 of the way through eating the burger the lower bun was completely soaking wet where we couldn’t finish it anymore. Definitely expected more for a beef restaurant in vail with the menu price points. Leaving very disappointed. Also, since we came during a slower time at the restaurant, we just watched the waiters congregate in the corner and talk, mess around and have very unprofessional conversation and giration movements to each other.
Not impressed. Our family came to enjoy a relaxed, casual dinner. We had been guests at the Sonnenalp Hotel. The quality of service we received at Bully Ranch was disappointing at best. Our waiter was as cold as the weather outside. He was stiff and uninterested in providing good service. He hurriedly spent less than a minute greeting our family and sharing menu highlights. Throughout our meal, we were the only guests seated at a table, with only five people at the bar. We made one request when ordering—a change in the salad dressing; it was not accommodated. The two stars are for the decor. I would not recommend this restaurant, nor will we return.
Overall, an average experience. Service was good and the food was fine– especially the tomato soup and the potato tots, which were both outstanding. Denise, the bartender, deserves a special mention for constantly helping throughout the dining room. However, the temperature inside the restaurant was unbearably hot. It felt close to 90–100 degrees, and when we asked if it could be lowered, we were told it was controlled by the hotel, so nothing could be done. We were uncomfortably warm the entire meal. On top of that, a “culinary fee” was added to the check without any prior explanation, which was an unpleasant surprise at the end. Great food and hardworking staff, but the extreme heat and unexpected fee made the overall experience just average.
Very disappointing experience. The staff had a bad attitude from the start. I ordered a pizza and a dish I thought would be buffalo ribs, but it came as pasta with buffalo meat, and they rudely refused to replace it. They even falsely told the manager that we were unhappy because the dish “contained pork,” while we had actually ordered pork ourselves and had no issue with it. There was also an eyelash on the pizza with no apology. Even the valet service was unprofessional—my key holder was torn apart, with one piece left in the car and the other missing!!!!!! Beautiful place, but the service, honesty, and hygiene were extremely disappointing. I do not recommend this restaurant at all
My family and I used to love this restaurant. BUT: the new menu is terrible . They used to have the best burger in town, now they have a Tex-Mex style menu that doesn’t work. (Note: if a Swiss style hotel, the new menu doesn’t make sense) . Our waiter was very distracted… in conclusion, every year, both the food and the service worse. (Also, the mussels used to be really good.)
We have been visiting Vail for over twenty years, and during that time we have been frequent customers of the Bully Ranch Restaurant. We have always enjoyed the quality of the food and the atmosphere, especially as a place to gather with friends for après-ski. For this reason, it is particularly disappointing to write to you about what happened yesterday. We had a confirmed reservation at 4:00 p.m for a group of 8 friends. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a staff member named Rodrigo, whose attitude from the outset was not welcoming or hospitable. Once we sat down, we realized we were missing one chair. So, a friend moved a chair from a nearby empty table (one of many that were unoccupied at the time). Rodrigo reacted in a rude and confrontational manner, insisting that the chair could not be moved. When we calmly asked for an explanation, the situation escalated unnecessarily. Rodrigo became visibly agitated and proceeded to call the police, stating that our group was “trespassing.” This was completely untrue, as we had a valid reservation and were there as paying customers, and had even ordered drinks and appetizers. What was meant to be a relaxed après-ski lunch at a restaurant we really enjoy turned into a very unfortunate and uncomfortable experience. The situation detriorated to the point that we felt compelled to leave the restaurant. The table next to us also decided to leave as a result of what happened. While this incident was by far the most serious, I should note that this was the third time we have experienced poor treatment by staff at Bully Ranch. I want to emphasize that the food and ambiance at Bully Ranch are excellent. Unfortunately, the way we were treated — especially by Rodrigo — was entirely inconsistent with the level of service one would expect from an establishment associated with the Sonnenalp name.
Utterly disappointed. A girlfriend and I made a reservation for dinner and experienced awful service. We live in Vail but were treated like unwanted tourists. Both tables next to us were given more attention/service - we were treated like an annoyance from the moment we sat down. We completely finished our appetizers before we received our cocktails & no apology was given. Our waiter, Vinny?, came by 4 (!!!) times to check on the table next to us while we sat without water and without our drinks/food 30 mins into our meal. At the end of dinner we told our waiter we had a gift card and he walked away while my friend was actively speaking to him. He returned 10 minutes later seeming annoyed we wanted to utilize our gift card and actually threw the bill down on the table and said “thanks” in a snarky tone before walking away. We gave him a tip although he did not deserve one. If you don’t have a man with you at the table like the two tables next to us, you will be given awful service by Vinny. Go elsewhere.
