Beautiful pass by motorbike

The Umbrail Pass impresses with its exceptional location and the resulting scenic contrasts. The pass road begins in Müstair in Graubünden and joins the famous Stilfserjoch road (Stelvio Pass road) not far from the pass summit. Even in Müstair, the road is quite narrow and climbs rapidly in numerous tight switchbacks. From the very beginning, breathtaking views towards the Ofen Pass and across the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Val Müstair are offered all day long. As the altitude increases, the view opens up to imposing 3,000-meter peaks, while the landscape becomes increasingly barren. Here, too, you can enjoy magnificent views down into the valley. The Umbrail Pass also marks the border between Switzerland and Italy. A historic customs house is located at the top of the pass. Parking at the top of the pass is unfortunately very limited – during my visit, all spaces were already occupied, despite low traffic. Below you will find some impressions of the pass and its surroundings. Happy traveling!

The road gently climbs into the Val di Mustair, where picturesque villages and lush green meadows framed my route. Along the valley, the landscape is a perfect balance of pristine nature and traditional Alpine architecture: wooden houses, small bridges, and clear streams flowing alongside the road. I head towards the Umbrail Pass, and here comes the first real thrill: tight curves, hairpin bends that climb between rocks and meadows, and a breathtaking view of the slopes of the Rhaetian Alps. The pass, with its solitary and wild atmosphere, gives the sensation of truly being "suspended" between the mountains. I took a short break, breathing in the crisp air and admiring the view that opens up towards the Stelvio Pass. The road to the Stelvio is pure adrenaline: the asphalt is good, the curves continuous, and the satisfaction of tackling those legendary hairpin bends that every motorcyclist dreams of. Traffic wasn't too heavy, so I could fully enjoy the ride, with every curve inviting me to push a little harder without ever losing control. Once I reached the Stelvio Pass, the view of the valley below was incredible: a mosaic of roads winding between majestic mountains, distant glaciers, and peaks reaching for the sky. We return along the same road to the Fluela Pass after the adrenaline rush of the Stelvio... but that's another story.
