Absolutely cooked to perfection!!! This place is a gem. Go grab yourself a plate!!!
Highly recommend. Delicious and they are so welcoming and nice!!
Service style is a little different. We sat and were given a menu and instructed to order at the register. Very welcoming people. 🙂 We ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich and a smash burger with extra toppings. For the price, it was well worth it. The sandwich was huge - just half of it was the size of my 8 yea rs face. Lol She very much enjoyed it and had leftovers. We shared an order of onion rings which okay. Highly recommend this place and will be back.
Decided to come by and try it out. Really enjoyed it so much and I cannot say enough good things about this sandwich. The price was very affordable and the portions were really big! Evening was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. I ordered a brisket sandwich and luckily I came hungry because that was enough for two people. Bring a friend I highly recommend it!
I’ve been seeing sign on the building and was curious. I was hoping it was an African restaurant and I was not disappointed. They currently have several American dishes and a few African items for their soft opening. They will be opening their full menu in a few weeks so look forward to egusi $ fufu, etc. Yesterday, I picked up a smash burger & fries for my daughter and a Jollof Bistro Bowl for me. The Jollof rice was fantastic, served with 2 eggs over easy and sliced avocado 🥑. It was vey tasty. I’m excited to go back and try more. My family and I just travelled about 40 minutes for some Nigerian food. I glad we have one right here in our backyard now.
Staff were very nice! They don’t have hours posted yet, definitely a soft opening with growing pains. I waited about 30 minutes for a takeout order on my lunch break, so would definitely be better suited if you don’t have time constraints (I chalked this up to them being new, I’m sure once they get their feet off the ground things will move at a faster pace). Food was flavorful, delicious, and portions are generous. Their menu has a little bit of everything which is a plus. I hope they’re here to stay, would definitely come back when I can dine in.
Have you had Jollof rice and oxtails? I had a delicious lunch at Taste of Safari. I am so excited to have this restaurant in El Sobrante. Wonderful place for a coffee or lunch date👍🏽❣️🎉

Have you had Jollof rice and oxtails? I had a delicious lunch at Taste of Safari. I am so excited to have this restaurant in El Sobrante. Wonderful place for a coffee or lunch date👍🏽❣️🎉
Absolutely cooked to perfection!!! This place is a gem. Go grab yourself a plate!!!
Highly recommend. Delicious and they are so welcoming and nice!!
I had an incredible experience at Taste of Safari in El Sobrante, a standout African fusion kitchen and grill that truly delivers on flavor and generosity. I ordered the oxtail stew, collard greens, and jollof rice—and every dish was bold, well-seasoned, and cooked with real intention. The portions are very generous, making sure you don’t leave hungry, which absolutely matters. The oxtail was rich and fall-off-the-bone tender, the jollof rice was aromatic and perfectly spiced, and the collard greens were deeply satisfying. What really elevated the experience was meeting Roland, the owner. He’s incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about the food and the community. You can feel the heart behind this place. If you’re in El Sobrante and want authentic, well-executed African fusion cuisine with big flavor and big portions, Taste of Safari is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back.
This place is outstanding! Their catfish is fresh and tasty. The curry jollof is the best thing I've tried in a long time. I had it with beef. So tender. The plantains were perfectly cooked. But the best of all was the beef brisket and house BBQ sauce. It tastes just like what you'd get in Texas and the BBQ sauce isn't too sweet. I can't wait to try breakfast next! Also, the staff is very friendly and they helped us choose the best items from their menu. Lunch is the ideal time to go since they run out of some items by dinner time.
Few restaurants make you feel as immediately welcomed as this one! The vibe on point, the food we had fantastic (curry jollof combo we added lamb and plantains also had the fried chicken ) and large portions. As a couple with extensive travel experience throughout Africa the taste and vibe was authentic. Everyone working there was very attentive. Overall an experience that made us feel warm and homey.
What an amazing experience. The food is amazing. I had Chicken bbq with Jollof rice and it was just perfectly done. The server mimi and Lin were the most kindest soul. They were welcoming and came to check frequently. I highly recommend this place and i will be back again for tasty bbq.
Have yet to fully try a full entree, but I was at the nail shop next door and the owner came and brought us samplers of the bean fritters to try and they were AMAZING! Unlike anything else I've ever had. It was like a falafel, but with a different spice pallete. Didn't have time to go over and try something that day, but the next time I get my nails done I definitely will be! I look forward to trying some more good authentic African food!
Our server was Lin, she was working the register cooking and training another new employee. And while doing all that, she was still super sweet, friendly, and professional. She went out of her way to make us an exceptional meal for new years night for dinner between 445 and 530. While most places were closing down she said they were open until 8pm. We felt super lucky to have come to this place and highly recommend it to anyone interested in trying it. The sandwiches are big and generous portions you won't be disappointed. Give it a chance.
I’ve been waiting for a Black/African owned restaurant in this area!!! The food is so delicious (flavorful) and the customer service is excellent. I will now be a frequent customer! Lol Thanks so much Taste of Safari. I am so grateful for your service.
Newish place with growing pains and wierdly large portions. Ordered food three different times from this place, was given laege portions of food. Food was good, lots of fries, big sandwiches. Club sandwich was insanely huge. Turkey sandwich smaller but still large. Had a rice side by itself and was tasty when paired with meat. Slightly oily but don't let it get in the way of its subtle flavor. Will come again for lunch again.
I’ve been wanting to try this place out and I finally did, I went in and wanted some jollof rice and skewers but unfortunately they had neither at the time (around 11 A.M on a Tuesday) so I went ahead and ordered a club sandwich which they did have. My expectations were fairly low considering it was just a club sandwich but it was surprisingly amazing! That being said I’ve really been wanting to come back because the food was great and I want to try more things but I’ve came twice and they’ve been closed. It seems like they’re struggling to get their business functioning but I really hope they can figure it out because this place has serious potential. If you’re in the area and they happen to be open definitely try it out

Freshly prepared. All fresh ingredients. Great grilled meats. Awesome sides like their collard greens!

Went there for the soft opening. We got a turkey sandwich and a double smash burger, sandwich was o.k. lots of turkey in it, fries were good, double smashed burger was awesome, with everything on it was hard to bite for me, a lot of ingredients on the burger for me, went back for their grand opening food is good but they don't have all the stuff on their menu board, alittle disappointing, would have liked to try the brisket and the brisket burnt ends, I'll give it a try when they get settled down and opened for awhile.
We always try to support local eateries. Taste of safari was a true adventure. The portions are large and the service is attentive. We will return to try more menu items.

I so wanted to love this place. We ordered take out. The staff are lovely. There was one other couple sitting, one couple just about to order in front of us and a door dash order of one item that came in just as we ordered. When we placed our to-go order of three items we were told it would take about ten minutes. About 45 minutes later the order was complete and handed to us. We took home a burger and fries which was huge and perfection. Chicken tenders-we ordered two pieces and received three, that was very nice and fries (a very small side for the nearly $4) and an order of oxtail stew. The man who ordered the stew was very excited to get a good oxtail stew, and for almost $18 it should have been. We got a serving that was so small it didn’t fill our toddlers food bowl. It was very good though, just such a surprisingly small portion. Such disappointment:( After reading all the reviews of portion size we did not think to over order but we have a couple people who are still hungry tonight after our dinner at Taste of Safari
As with any business, it takes time to get your foot off the ground. Taste of Safari provides a unique offering to the El Sobrante community, offering an African x American (cafe) fusion you can’t help but enjoy. It took me a while to comprehend the concept, but after trying more than just the French fries, I am quite impressed! I ordered the goat stew with plantains and jollof rice—it was incredibly flavorful and filling. Although, the oxtail stew arrived cold and a bit tough. Simply cooking this item longer will do the trick! While there was a disruption to service, I was able to have a respectful and understanding dialogue with the owner and they made up for it in free offerings. I will continue to support!
Food is great, service is friendly, but please turn off Fox News official Trump propaganda channel. No one wants to see that while eating.
Their hours for a Saturday have an opening time of 9am. It’s 11 and they closed, not even a sign. Other people have been waiting outside as well. Things happen but a sign would be nice.
