Food and service was amazing, and it didn’t even take them 5 minutes!!! I love their fair prices, and they’re very patient with you. And best of all, their tater tots were great 😋
10 out of 10 recommend hands down the best burger in Waco Tx.
This was my first time visiting Whizzbangs. It's a quaint burger restaurant that has a nice nostalgic feel to it. It's simple and not fussy. I ordered the Whizz Hamburger with fries. It was delivered to me hot and fresh. My fries were delicious. And one of the things that stood out is the presentation of my burger. It was meticulously put together and not sloppy like other burger places. I appreciate the effort put into making my burger look and taste like a real burger. Kudos to the cooks. The food was delicious, and I will be back.
If you do the drive thru, it is well worth the wait. The burgers are made fresh, are of the best quality, and are perfectly greasy & delicious. If you are in Waco and hungry for a burger look no further than Whizzbang's!
I was about to make a 5 hour trip and stopped in to grab a burger and shake. The shakes are homemade. Very creamy and good. I was hoping for a stronger strawberry flavor. Burgers were terrific. I had never been so I wasn't sure if I wanted fries, tots or onion rings. I asked the girl taking my order for her favorite. She didn't really have one but told me they do offer a half/half.so I was able to get fries and onion rings They were both terrific! Not a lot of options which makes ordering so much easier. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
This burger joint is always a go to on my husband and I's list of places to go in a pinch after work! Food is phenomenal and always nice and hot! The service is always top tier and everyone is super friendly too! We absolutely love this place and cannot wait to go again! The atmosphere is amazing too and such a welcoming fun vibe! 10/10!
This place didn't wow much on the outside, but what's on the inside was totally different. I had the Whizz-Pig with cheese, mayo and tomato and it was the best burger I ever had. Hands down. 10/10! I've been from Louis's Lunch in New Haven to Shula's and everything in between and the Whizz-Pig was the best. Many reviewers loved the Onion Rings however I would give them a 5/10. The Fries were great! This place is on my "must return to at every opportunity" list!
Literally the best burger I ever had. The whizz pig is it. I can't believe people would actually eat at McDonald's when there's such a good place like this
I try to never go to corporate restaurants...or coffee houses, etc. so we were stopping in Waco and decided to go out for dinner. I was deciding between Italian, Mexican, or this hamburger place. We eat Mexican a lot, very rarely Italian or burgers so burgers for the variety. We drove up and there were basically only cars for the employees in the lot. Not a good sign. But I prevailed and we went in... Simple menu, you order and they brought the meal out to us. Good burger and fries. Read the story of Captain whizbang. Fun story...
I travel alot and love a good burger! This was one of the best I've ever had!! The whiz pig and whizzing fries. I am so full and happy. Amazing food good staff. Cool building and atmosphere
Great food, slightly pricey depending on taste.
Awesome burger spot. WAY better than any chain or fast food. Keep this place in biz. Awesome burgers, fries, and onion rings.
The Plant Based Beyond Burger was sooo delicious!! I definitely will buy again and again. The burger bun was crispy and tasty. The cheese melted perfectly on top of the burger...yummy🍔 😋 😍 👌
The whizz pig is unmatched. The customer service is great. Everyone is so nice. I love the old diner look to the place. They even have the old sign on the ceiling which I thought was a nice touch. Would 100% recommend!
Whizz-pig burger and whizzbanged fries were wonderful, it is 1/2 bacon 1/2 burger patty burger and fries with cheddar cheese, ground bacon, diced red onion and special sauce, the sauce is better than ranch. With corona virus as it is, the staff was doing a wonerfull job cleaning the entire time we were there. As soon as someone left there was someone cleaning the area. Food was great at a great price. This is one of those places you could and would eat once a week if you lived there.
Honestly, I could eat one of these burgers everyday. The food is amazing. Grilled hot and fresh. A real burger joint, not like McDs. The crew that worked here today were excellent. Definitely stop by here and give it a try.
I am a burger junkie and the whiz pig is my favorite burger of all time. I've made the drive from Austin and from Dallas just have this burger. The staff is super friendly no matter which location you go to!! The staff at union hall location went above and beyond to package up some to go burgers for me to take back to my family in Dallas and made sure they'd still be good when I got home. Cannot recommend enough.
Absolutely fantastic burger and onion rings! The bun is perfectly toasted, meat cooked perfectly and the onion rings are gigantic, well seasoned, and crunchy
Best Burger in Waco? More like my all-time Top 3 Burger, ANYWHERE. This was such a wonderful stop after a LOOOONG road trip weekend with 2 guys. Hubby & I both got the Whizz-Pig (single) and Whizzbanged Fries. Our friend snagged a DOUBLE Whizz-Pig. The meat was cooked to perfection with the the right amount of greasy goodness all while maintaining a crisp yet soft bun. Seriously, the bun never got soggy. Our minds were blown. All 3 of us left oh so happy and very full. Food was delicious and the lady that took our order was absolutely precious. We have family in Waco so we will be coming back here again!
This place is a to go to for a good burger. The reason I'm leaving a review is me and my wife got out late but planned on going there and got there 15min before closing. Instead of some rude person trying to get rid of us the guy at the counter took our order and stayed calmed. He put our order in a to go bag but we still ate there and he did not show emotion of discontent. Good customer service is dying out but not at this place. Eat the onion rings too.
Stopped by on the strength of the reviews. Was not disappointed. Tried the regular burger and it was so flavorful and the perfect size. Everything was so fresh and made to order. Added some Tots and Whizzbanged them. That pushed them over the top. Could have been an entree all by themselves. Made me wish I'd gotten some more Whizzbang sauce for my burger. Definitely coming back.
Whiz Bang's Burger Shack truly lives up to its name, delivering a 'whiz bang' of flavors with every bite! From the moment we walked in, the retro vibe and friendly staff set a welcoming tone for what was an exceptional dining experience. We started with a side of onion rings, which were a crunchy, golden delight, perfectly seasoned and accompanied by a delicious dipping sauce that added just the right amount of kick. The burgers, the stars of the show, were nothing short of phenomenal—juicy, cooked to perfection, and layered with fresh, tasty toppings that complemented each other beautifully. The tater tots, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, were a nostalgic treat that brought back memories of childhood comfort food but with a gourmet twist. Each item we ordered felt like it was made with care and high-quality ingredients, evident from the first taste to the last. Whiz Bang's Burger Shack doesn't just serve food; they craft an experience that leaves you satisfied and already planning your next visit. If you’re in the mood for some top-notch American classics with a side of fun, this is the place to go!
Whizzbang Hamburger is simply delicious. We ordered their double burger with both fries and onion rings. The burger is pretty simple quick service fast casual burger. It was very good though, think a step above a Five Guys. The fries were crispy and very good. But, the stand out to me were the Onion Rings. Could easily eat hundreds of them. The breading was perfect and they were not too greasy. If you’re in the Waco Texas area it is a good place to stop.
Oh my gosh, we loved the old school mom and pop restaurant. It is an old establishment, but the tables were super duper clean. The services was great, and the cashier recommended a few items for it was our first time eating there. The hamburgers were lickin’ good. Will definitely stop buy again when in Waco.
These are how burgers are supposed to taste like. I just beat the lunch rush by about 10 minutes and put my order in. It was out and delivered to my table in less than 10 minutes (closer to 5 to 7 minutes actually!) I ordered the wizz-pigg (bacon and beef blended patty) with jalapeño jack cheese and wizzbanged (bacon, cheese, and the signature wizzbang sauce) fries. I love the simple menu, and the quiet music alongside the old-school diner vibe of the place. I will be back, probably every time I'm nearby at lunch.
Chose this place because I wanted a burger and this place hit the spot. Absolutely delicious from start to finish! Ordered a single burger w/ mayo instead of mustard, cheddar and jalapeño jack cheeses and a side of whizzbang fries. The burger was fresh and delicious. The real star was those fries! I was in HEAVEN. Absolutely incredible. Will definitely seek out this place in the future when I come through the area again!
We had to stop here since it has been on The Texas Bucket List and my husband is still on his quest to find "a good hamburger.". I had the wizz fries and a junior hamburger. The fries were really good. I really enjoyed them. The hamburger was pretty good also. One of my sons got the vegetarian burger. I was impressed that it also tasted really good. This is a great place to stop for a quick bite. The staff was very friendly. I did not get great pictures because they all wolfed their food down so great. 😂
Went here with my son; we’re trying to find the best burgers in Waco. From the moment we came in, everyone was super friendly and the man who took our order was super helpful. If I had to find one thing wrong (Which is very hard) it would be that the burgers are a tiny bit too big. 5 stars!
Captain Billy Whizzbang’s Hamburgers There’s something reassuring about a burger joint that knows exactly what it is. Captain Billy Whizzbang’s isn’t trying to reinvent beef. It’s not chasing truffle aioli, brioche theatrics, or architectural towers that require a structural engineer to eat. It’s doing the honest work. The cheeseburger arrives wrapped in paper like a quiet promise. Sesame seed bun, lightly toasted. A proper sear on the patty. Bacon tucked in, jalapeños giving that Texas wink. The cheese melts into the crevices of the beef instead of just sitting on top like an afterthought. You bite in and it does what a burger should do: it yields. Juicy without collapsing. Savory without being greasy. Balanced enough that you don’t need to perform surgery just to keep it together. The fries? Hot. Golden. Cooked to order. They’re not stealing the spotlight, but they’re reliable companions. Crisp edges, soft centers. They don’t compete with the burger — they support it. Sometimes that’s enough. The room carries that cozy, old-school charm — red accents, simple boards, straightforward pricing. No ego on the walls. Just a place that’s been flipping patties long enough to understand rhythm. The staff moves with easy familiarity. You’re not rushed. You’re not staged. You’re just fed. Is it the undisputed heavyweight champion of Waco burgers? Maybe not. The very best spots create that internal standoff where you can’t decide whether the fries or the burger deserve first bite. Here, the burger leads. The fries follow. But five stars aren’t always about perfection. They’re about experience. Fresh, cooked-to-order food. Friendly service. A burger that hits its mark. A soft drink cold enough to reset the palate. Some meals aim for fireworks. Some aim for comfort. This one delivers comfort with confidence. ★★★★★
Just move to Waco from Florida. Love a good traditional burger...grew up flipping burgers in the 1980's. Love the historic relevance to waco...had good reviews so I went. A double...all the fixings add crispy jalapeños...tater tots....oh my god...the best burger I have had in a very long time! The staff was so friendly....the place is old but clean! Waco has a treasure here!
The BEST burger I’ve ever had. We went to the Whizzbang food truck on the Silo property. I had been wanting to try their whizzpig burger for a long time but I always found myself trying a different food truck. This time I committed and I’m so glad I did, this was the best burger I’ve ever had. Perfectly greasy and flavorful without being too messy from the toppings. I made no substitutions and it was perfect. The only thing I was bummed about was finding out this was a chain and there are actually whizzbang fries as well! I’m going to have to hit up the brick and mortar when I get to Waco next time. I convinced my brother to get a whizzpig after he already had a mid hotdog from the place next door and he was just as impressed. Also this would be the PERFECT hangover burger. No question.
Whizzbang’s is a total Waco classic. I love that it has been around since 1977 and still feels like a real neighborhood spot rather than a tourist trap. The whole vibe is built around a quirky "Captain Billy" hot air balloon legend, which is actually a nod to an old humor magazine from the 1920s. It is cool to see a local place keep that kind of history alive for almost 50 years. The food is the real deal too. They do not use frozen patties here. Everything is hand-pressed and fresh. If you go, you have to try the Whizz-Pigg. It is a 50/50 blend of beef and bacon ground together, and it is easily one of the best burgers in town. Just a heads up for anyone looking for them, this is the only actual brick and mortar store they have. If you aren't over on Lake Air Drive, you can usually find their food truck over at the Silos. Definitely worth a stop if you want a piece of Waco history that actually tastes good.
Let's talk about Whizzbang's. It's a burger place with an old-school vibe. Extremely similar to In 'n Out, but with a less corporate feel. The place was empty, which gave me low expectations for the food. But I was totally wrong. I ordered a Whizz-Pig, and that burger is dangerous. Beef mixed with bacon is something else. Extremely delicious. Double meat, so I can feel my cholesterol running through my veins. Lol I enjoyed it. It was really good. I ordered an Onion Ring on the side, and it blew my mind. Great flavor, and huge. The French fries were good too. Super fast service, fresh ingredients, and a special, ready-made place to wash your hands. They know you'll need it, and believe me, if you're going to enjoy the burger without any worries, that spot will be key. lol Don't go wearing light-colored clothing, you're in danger. lol 100% recommended.
The hamburger was fantastic! I would have loved to make it a combo for like $2-3 bucks extra but that isn’t an option. The burger is worth the price tag, but if your looking for a way to enjoy a beverage or side to go with there are more affordable options.
Came into town for a football game & decided to experience this place because I saw it on a food program. Everything that they said was true & a little understated! We had 8 different meals & EVERYTHING was great! We all shared each other's food, just to get a taste. I also have to give a big shout out to the staff because they were friendly, accommodating & had a great sense of humor! We shared a few laughs & I also watched as they took pride in making sure that the store & the bathrooms were clean. It's nice to see when people take pride in their work & still have fun. We'll be back again!
Went through the drive through to pick up burgers I ordered in advance. The employee at the window seemed distracted and wasn’t as connected to service. The burgers were okay. Bun seemed a little hard, and fixings were a little sloppily placed on the burger. I ordered a bottle coke and was given a fountain drink. I will try them again as this may have been an off day and they have great reviews.
Burger was amazing, great tasty burger. I have to be honest and say this place needs a little bit of cleaning to do. The moment you walk up to the building, the floor and bottom of the doors are really dirty, also the restrooms were the same. As an employee, I wouldn't be able to walk through those doors daily and just overlook something like that, especially in a food business.
Blast from the past. Use to come here all the time when i was a kid. I do miss the chicken tenders but the hamburgers are still on point.
Damned good burger. I went with The wizpig Burger which is mixed with bacon and beef animated a double by adding a regular beef patty loaded up with all the fixings and their cheesy fries, made for a really good lunch. The place is made to look old school but honestly it leans more towards the rundown then retro. Youngsters run a place for pretty friendly and I got my food pretty quick. The only reason I didn't go with five stars on this burger is it was admittedly a bit over greasy. I'm not saying I'm here for health food but...
Good burger and fries the staff was very friendly
This is a review of their food truck at Magnolia Market... Great burger! I had the 1/2 bacon, 1/2 ground beef burger. Fries would have been nice, but all they offered were chips. I look forward to stopping in at the brick and mortar location next time. I'm sure it won't disappoint and they do serve fries there from what I can tell.
The food taste home cooked but the portion size could be a little but more for the sides.
Not the cleanest, but some napkins on the table and I was good. Food and service put it over the top. Lives up to claim to being the best burger joint. Careful with the Cajun chips - high octane and not for the faint of heart - but, they were worth the try. Pic of Wizz-piggs - with tots and chips.
I asked around for the best burger in Waco and was directed here, but I didn't expect them to actually have that on the side of their building. The insides were a bit run down and lackluster, but the burger I had along with the whiz bang fries I got were actually really good. Was it the best burger I ever had? No, but it was a great one. Overall I enjoyed this place.
This is a locate Waco, Texas Hamburger joint that's been around for a long time, so this was my first visit. Got there at 2 so the lunch rush was over. We both had the Whizz Pig Hamburger Basket. The burger is half bacon and half ground meat. The burger and fries were tasty. The fries had a strange crust. They were good i should have ask about them.
Great local restaurant! This place reminds me of In-n-our Burger but is way better in my opinion. The menu is simple but more options to personalize your burger. As you can see in my picture, the patties are decently sized (it’s way bigger than my bun!). The fries are the really good crispy on the outside but soft on the inside fries (my favorite!) I gave it 4 stars because the sweet tea is not sweet enough to a true Southerner’s standards and it could have been cleaner. Although, we came on a Saturday and while we were leaving a couple of the girls started focusing on cleaning. I would definitely recommend this place and I suggest to get the Whizz-Pigg patty because it’s half beef, half bacon. Can you get more American?! Also, COLLEGE STUDENTS GET 10% OFF ON TUESDAYS!!
Have been gone many years came back this I wanted to have a good burger with very disappointed did not even taste the same all look the same
Great burger, but seemed way over priced compared to competitors.
Decent burgers but double check your order. I ordered the double whiz pig but it was a single.
Whizz pig burger has good flavor but lukewarm when served. Price for quantity and quality not realistic matched.
I eat at the Union Hall location 1-2x a month. They never text my phone, and I have to go to the booth to find out my food is sitting in the window. LOVE their burgers WHEN can get them hot.
I was undoubtedly excited to try this place, as it was mentioned to be one of the top 10 places to eat in Waco. BUT, I wanted to whizz outta' there, and bang my head against the table, for going out of my way to try this place. I don't normally bash a restaurant but this place was Trash. Don't get me wrong, the service was A+ excellent, and price was reasonable. The food on the other hand was a letdown. The patty had a funky taste of ground "beef", hotdogs, and dirty sock. (Don't ask.) I got a regular patty and a whizzpig and both tasted off. They said the whizzpig would be "a little pink" because it had bacon, but the darn thing looked like they slid it across the grill, threw it on a bun and called it good. (Mind you, I eat my steak rare.) This was raw in my book. Me nor my wife could finish them because they were so chewy and under cooked. When we ordered a second patty (just the patty) they charged me for a whole burger. The reasoning was because, "that's the only way they could make a profit." Then they told us if we would have ordered it with our first order we would have only been charged $2. Last of all the drink machine look like a science project with so much mold growing in it. The dispensing levers would stick also a sign of poor cleaning, and then i saw flakes of crud falling in my drink, i immediately stopped my wife from drinking hers and tossed it. But don't worry they have bottled drinks as a excuse for those of us who like our beverages foreign substance free. I know some fountain drink dispensers have below standard cleanliness but when it's literally falling in the drink that's where I draw the line.
This was our first time dinning here. A friend suggested them. First issue was our order was not correct. When we went back to tell them, the cook was short and snappy. He was having a rough time he said. We let that part go as we all have bad days. The burgers were flavorless. Grilled onions are not very grilled. The tater tots had a weird flavor, maybe old oil? Milk shake was not worth the 5.00 for the size and flavor. For the price, think we will stick to our regualr burger place.
I had lunch here for the 1st time and it will be my last. The resturant decor appeared old, outdated. The employee who took my order had on a hoodie jacket with the hood snuggly wrapped around their head. Did not make eye contact and was hard to hear or understand. Appeared insulted and demanding that a tip was not given. Why am I tipping someone when I was serving myself ? The French fries tasted like they were cooked in old grease, barely warm. The regular hamburger was OK, nothing that stands out. I will not return and truly do not understand how others believe this restaurant is so great. Lesson learned for me.
I've been there quite a few times and each visit is UNPLEASANT! No greeting, no thank you come again, just give the food and close the door in our face! Not ok, not cool.
Poor customer service. Went to order and the man who took the order looked shocked when I asked for 8 burgers and rolled his eyes at me. I’m sorry but if you don’t want my business, just say so. There wasn’t a line and they weren’t busy. I would assume that given a place like this, they would be used to taking a large order. Plenty of other food trucks to chose from so we went to a friendlier place.
Wow thought we were going to have some great food with great customer service however, as we were ordering the staff member taking our order was rolling her eyes. My husband and I are not from here so we were looking over the menu and I guess that irritated the worker. We didn’t even finish ordering our food. ✌🏻 Praying for ya sis..
It had been a while since I had been here, so I had brought my mother n law (who was visiting TX). I just got the regular burger and whizzbang fries, my mother in law got the whizz pig. So my hamburger patty was a tiny bit pink inside, but it was still good. My mother n law's burger was so pink u could see it on top and bottom of the patty. 🤮 It was not a pleasant taste. I felt so bad for bringing her here. Will not return.
Spent way to much for a mediocre burger that is Stupidly expensive for no reason, don't like the menu changes, missing items they used to have, etc. There's no reason it should be cheaper to eat at Whataburger than here... Oh yeah not to mention that the drive thru was not busy, however the weird dude who took my order let me know after waiting 15 minutes that they gave my order away to the wrong person and had to start it over...me and my dad went here for years, now I'll never go back.
Spent 60 bucks, 2 burgers with all the fixings, tater tots and onion rings. What I got, a burger with a bun, piece of rubbery meat and a piece of cheese. Toter tots and onion rings tasted like they were a week old, rubbery and cold as hell. I’ve ate a lot of burgers in my 54 years and this is the worst I’ve ever eaten and the service is just as bad. I’m assuming the night employees can’t follow simple instructions. So my advice is choose McDonalds before this place or maybe even taco hell. Saddest part is my Boston terriers wouldn’t even eat it.
It smelled werid in there the food was horrible service was garbage plus they forgot the sauces and 33 dollars for two single patty cheeseburgers and a fries and onion rings definitely not worth it Edit: they refunded me then charged me again ?
