A good place to get BBQ and more. Going with a group where some friends like BBQ and others would prefer something else, like a burger? This is the place. I got the turkey tips (pictured) and my husband got the bison burger. Both were delicious! Highly recommend that you give this place a try.
Really great barbecue! My boys and I stopped by for corn fritters, wings, blackened salmon and a combo plate of pulled pork and brisket. Even the left overs were delicious the next day!
Amazing Texas style bbq place in town. Always a great option for a quick bite. Things to try: bone-in wings, egg roll, brisket
Amazing BBQ place in moody street. Never miss this joint whenever I visit Boston/Waltham
Nice place. Burger very delicious. OMG
The food was fantastic, the survice was great and the night we went was game night and though we were losing terribly, we had a lot of fun. I can't wait to go back.
We often forget Bison County as a lunch option when we go out on Fridays. But it is a really great place to eat with a variety of interesting selections that include bison burgers, elk on occasion and other unique meats. my personal favorites are the fried chicken sandwich, and the brisket sandwich.
Be Warned they don't seem to have a host or pay much mind if you stand by the door so just sit somewhere or walk up to an employee and ask where to sit. Food is excellent. I've been there two times now and they have really great quality meals and large portions. Will keep coming back. Give it a try!
Very good barbeque. The wings are smoked and they are full wings with out tips. Had the wagon train it was incredible. Warning do not do the math before you order. You are about to eat a pound of meat. The meat sticks to your fingers and gives you the smell all the way home. There was also a great selection of beer to go along with the beef. Stop reading and just go eat the meat!
Great staff, great atmosphere, and most importantly, great food! They really give you a good portion of food and it all tastes fantastic. They have a large selection of beers as well! I absolutely recommend this place.
I love going to Bison! Anything smoked there is just amazing! They smoke their own meet! You should try their buffalo quesadilla, made with buffalo meat! The bear selection is great! This place is casual and laid back! The food is comfy. People are nice.
Bison County has been our favorite place for dinner in Waltham for years. I really didn't think the menu could get any better, with all the incredible meats and vegetables they so perfectly prepare EVERY time we go. Yet Chef Dan Lane's new fine game menu, "Beasts and Bourbon" has made us love Bison County even more! From the sweet and spicy crispy quail lollipops to the delicious grilled rack of boar with pomegranate glaze, all of the game dishes are truly unique and delicious! We can't wait to go back to Bison county and enjoy more of the new game menu!
Walked into Bison County with high expectations...left with them met. Had the wings which were excellent and my wife had the fried chicken sandwich which she said was "absolutely fantastic". Easy on the ole wallet too!! I even had enough left over to take her and the kids to "Cabot's" the next day for a couple scoops of strawberry flavored frozen goodness! Will definitely be telling friends and family about this place. P.S. -The owner is a fantastic guy. Got the chance to have a few words with him and was very impressed on his theory regarding the necessity to speed up the game of golf and how to do so by having the USGA regulate a larger cup/hole size.
Solid 4.75--excellent! Service is very attentive and personable. We had Julie and she took great care to make sure our dining experience was great. The food was a hit!. We started out with the smoked wings--they were smokey with crispy skin and delicious. They offer sauces but it was not necessary in my opinion. Our contest winner steak meal was fantastic. My Old Fashion cocktail was nice and strong. Keep this place on your must try list
Everything was great! I haven't been in a long time. I got the New York sirloin Burger cooked medium rare with the regular fries. The Burger was cooked correctly, and I love their style of french fries. The wait staff was friendly as usual! I don't live in the area anymore, when I'm back I'll more than likely go there!
I went here for the first time today on a recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. Alex was our server, he was really nice and attentive. Everyone at our table loved the food. I got a pork belly sandwich which I thought would be slices but it was one piece and super tender. I sampled the brisket it had the perfect amount of sauce and perfect spicy finish. My mom had the po’boy and loved it and wouldn’t share :-( and someone else got the beast burger and loved it. Would obviously recommend and go there again.
I love this place. Small enough not to be overwhelming but big enough to handle a crowd. Every time I come here I like to sit near the grill which is exposed to the seating area. You can turn and watch your food get cooked and get all the amazing smells. The food tastes great and the wait staff is always awesome. I have come her at least 10+ times and its good every time.
Took the family here for dinner iiib the way home from Boston. I had the burnt tips and they were great. my wife had the ribs, also great. The kids had some tummy looking burgers. Beer menu was very good, and the wait staff did a great job. Will definitely go here again.
Love the vibe and the food here. I highly recommend the red chili and the corn fritters. Both dishes came out piping hot and quickly. For my main dish I got the Texas style pork ribs and highly recommend them with a side of the baked beans. The ribs were tender, smokey and juicy. My favorite side were the baked beans for their silky sweet and savory profile. I went on Halloween so it wasn't busy which was great because service was prompt and courteous. They do have a huge selection of beers and hard liquor so definitely try something new or expect that they have what you like. Will be coming back.
Loved the menu, service and atmosphere. I had the beast burger (bison stuffed with pulled pork) and it was fantastic. Tried the mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, corn fritters and everything else I tried. Highly recommend. If I lived closer I would be a regular!
Delicious and flavorful bbq comfort food. Wide selection of beers on tap and in the bottle. Everything came out promptly but it also wasn't very busy. Service was great! Pulled chicken and pork came out and hot and perfectly seasoned.
The service was friendly and the food is amazing. You have to try the wings! They have such a wide array of gluten free options that my biggest struggle was deciding what to try. I went with the pulled pork stuffed bison burger, and was not disappointed. We'll definitely be back.
Great food! We got 3 entrees (turkey burger with sweet potato fries, pulled chicken soft tacos, 1/2 roasted bbq chicken, and the buffalo shrimp starter for $52! Food was delicious and our server was very friendly. The ambiance was fun, the restaurant has the old fashioned saloon style décor.
I've lived in Watertown/Waltham most of my life and have no clue why I've never eaten here! I was running late for my mom's birthday dinner and when we walked in the owner knew exactly who we were and showed us to the right table. I believe his name is Adam and he is super nice and hospitable! The cocktails were yum, as were the apps. I shared chicken and waffles with my son because portions were HUGE! It was awesome! The sauce was perfect 👌 My bf got some kind of pork feet appetizer, which sounded scary but ended up being super tender and delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place, and if the parking on moody Street is scaring you away, there is a public lot a bit up the street. Or you could circle around moody for an hour 🤷♀️ Go here!
I've been here a few times; the food, drinks, and service have always been good. Today, I asked for an order of wings to go in addition to the meal I ordered in. She forgot about it; no big deal since I wasn't charged. But when she realized the mistake, she apologized and gave me a gift certificate for "lots of wings." That's great service in making up for an error.
walked in a little past 8pm on a Friday, it was a little busy but not bad. we were told to sit anywhere so we chose a booth in the back by the kitchen. we waited about 15 minutes before the waitress noticed we were sitting there even though she had walked by us. we ordered our drinks which came quickly and then ordered the food. the food came out a little slow but not bad. i got the blackened salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and the macaroni and cheese while my friend got the steak tips with French fries and garlic mashed potatoes. my salmon had a great flavor but was a bit overcooked, thankfully there was a lime wedge to add some moisture. the garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful and i thoroughly enjoyed them. the macaroni and cheese was grainy though, an ok flavor but i couldn't get past the texture. my friend said his steak tips were good but he didn't care for the skins left on in the mashed potatoes, which i really liked. overall i would go back but probably stick with a hamburger or just get mashed potatoes.
Had a lot of food. Tried the bison tips , chicken quesadilla, baby back ribs, Mac and cheese, cole slaw, French fries, cucumber salad, brisket, fried pickles, spicy shrimp skewer. The server Melissa was great all the food was great...except the ribs. As you all know I am an executive chef and have done a lot of reviews. When I say the food was excellent I mean it. All though the ribs were not. They were smoked and they were ruined for the reason that they were completely burnt and the spices that they put on it were lost by all the chard on them from the top to the bone it’s to bad because if it was not for that they would have been delicious
Came here for a late lunch around 2 pm on a Sunday. The place had only one person being the host, waiter and bartender. He did a great job being the one person team busing several tables. Ordered a full rack of ribs, brisket and smoked wings. The cuisine is southern BBQ inspired not an actual southern BBQ place so the tenderness on the ribs, brisket and wings was totally there but the smoky aromatic on the meat was lacking unlike the actual southern BBQ. The wings I ordered were supposedly "really spicy". It was not spicy at all. It isn't a big deal but the warning on the menu wasn't necessary. I ordered their signature cocktail called new horizon paloma. It was meh. Could have not gotten it.
Good variety of food. Nice variety of beers' craft and otherwise. The service was good. I liked the burger options and the catfish nuggets were 🔥 🔥 🔥. Wings are good but inconsistent. I come here often and never eat the same thing twice in a row because of the nice memu options. Did I mention the catfish nuggets?
Best BBQ I've had in Waltham, certainly. Pretty good beer selection and the atmosphere is good. Service wasn't memorable, a good thing in my opinion, since that means they were friendly and prompt. Pulled pork sandwich was what I got--delicious!
Food is delicious and there's a good selection. Service can sometimes be very slow even when it's not too busy. Also had a few unfriendly interactions with some of the servers and also was at the bar and had to listen to two workers smack talking a coworker.
Both my friend and I are vegetarian but when we saw the bison head hanging on the wall through the window we had to try it. For years now we stop here every time we do the Moody Mile. They have great beers that aren't hideously expensive. The bartenders are always as nice and responsive as you could want. I've never eaten here before (again vegetarian) but for the craft beer selection, price and service you can't go wrong.
Very tasty with large portions. My personal preference is for a stronger smoke flavor. Overall good beer selection and classic BBQ joint atmosphere.
I ordered the combo 1/2 rack of ribs and brisket. I also ordered the bone in Carolina wings. The wings and brisket we're good. The ribs were terrible very dry. They looked better than they tasted.
Nice place if you're looking for a quick bite. Closes at midnight. Food is served until 10 pm. Don't order non alcoholic drinks there, they're very watered down.
Amazing Arizona eggrolls. Who ever thought chicken eggrolls would taste so amazing!
Brisket was overcooked and the price was a bit steep... Portions and sides were good tho.
While I really want to like this place, especially since my favorite Waltham joint, Jake Dixie's Roadhouse closed 2+ years ago, I can't help but expect and want more out of this place. And I'm not alone either, as my significant other and my friends had the same comments based on our visits there. And it's a shame really, especially considering how little competition they have in the area, Blue Ribbon aside. They have a great location, right near the top of Moody Street, with a ton of parking lots and street parking available. They have the space, with 30+ tables and a long bar as well. They have a great craft beer selection as well. But the big issue here is with the service and the food. First off, the food is very average. I've sampled all kinds of things there, from their wraps to their bison tips and their BBQ plates, and most of it is bland or very average at best. But the kicker here is that in most instances, they charge a few bucks too many for their dishes. An example of such is their appetizers. Some are as cheap as $4.95 but most are $8.95 and more. $9 for a cup of chili? Seems pretty steep to me. Their fried pickles ($5.95) are decent, but few come in the serving. On the upside, most of them are eas to share although their spinach and artichoke dip ($8.95) wasn't all that great when I had it last week. Their entrees aren't much better, and I was not a huge fan of their ribs. Their pulled pork sandwich ($9.95) isn't all that great either, and their Bozeman bison tips ($17.95) were dry and again, bland. Even the sides are average at best. All in all, it just seems like the place strive on serving very average food at a premium. Their service isn't all that attentive either and all in all, it quickly loses it's appeal. Every single time I've seen the bill there I felt like it wasn't a good value at all. So while they have a great craft beer selection, the rest leaves to be desired including the inconsistent service which often times is inattentive and slow. Meh.
Pretty good food. Wish they glazed the wings after a bit with more sauce or has more sauce on the side. My concern with this place was that it was pretty confusing on how to sit and order or pick up. I order for pickup and I stood at the front desk for a while and then went up to the corner of the bar and asked someone for assistance. I also noticed some other customers not know what to do and eventually walked up to the bar to ask if they can seat themselves.
I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE!!!! The food was decent, not great. I tried an egg roll type appetizer with chicken, rice, and cheese and was not impressed. It was almost all rice with only a few bits of chicken in it. The Buffalo burger was good and the sweet potato fries excellent. What completely ruined both experiences here was the owner. Both times I was there the owner was there watching his staff. Which should be a good thing if you know how to manage people and aren't an overbearing control freak. The staff couldn't make a decision without looking over at him. You could feel the tension in the air. The staff was trying so hard that I had 4 different people coming to check on my table, and it was only me. Every time they checked, they looked at the owner to make sure they were seen. If they made any type of mistake he confronted them in front of guests. One waitress was almost in tears because of his rudeness. But, what closed the coffin on this place for me was when THEY ASKED ME TO LEAVE... I had not had my plate cleared from the table for even one minute. I was relaxing finishing my cocktail, watching the Celtics go down in flames, when one of the waitresses came up and said, "Can you pay your bill and either go, or go to the bar?" "We have a wait for tables and we need yours" Mind you the place was busy, but I took a table specifically because I didn't want to go stand around a bar with a bunch of idiots. I wanted to enjoy my dinner, the game, and relax after a busy week. I am not exaggerating on the time at all. I still had half a cocktail and the plate was still on the way to the kitchen when I was approached. Needless to say, I won't go back and you shouldn't either!
Yuck. Sounded and looked good. Tasted horrible. Stay away from the mac and cheese!
Birthday party for a friend with 8 others, we tried all kinds dishes. I ordered half chicken and it was dry as a bone. They have to pre-cook the chickens and keep them warm all day and night. This dries them out. The chicken wings were good.
Food was good, but they served me a 1 year old can of Nightshift. With a craft beer theme, they need to pay more attention to canning dates or they will continue to lose customers. Biggest problem with this place is inconsistency. Food and service can be anywhere from 1 to 5 stars...they really need to pay better attention to the cleanliness of the grill, amd expired craft beer.......
Terrible pulled pork (mushy) and super meh brisket. Would never order this again. Literally no flavor in the BBQ. Others had the county burger which was good. Mac and cheese tasted like bad velveeta cheese. They also screwed the bill up twice. Worst dinner in awhile. Gross.
Burger was delicious. Service and Mac & Cheese was horrendous. Server comes over at the end of the meal and berates me because I was wearing a MAGA hat. I ask her what her issue was and she says it's because """America has never been great. That means it can't be great again.""" Take from this what you will, but I will never support an anti-freedom establishment. Free speech should always be protected.
This review is based on service since I did not have the chance to try their food. My husband and I walked in on a weeknight, sat for about 10 min and were never greeted nor handed menus. I noticed 3 tables were given menus even though they arrived after us. Poor service and from the looks of it understaffed if only 2 ladies were covering the bar and the rest of the restaurant. I know it's a "laid-back" establishment, and living in Memphis for the past 2 years I know all about laid back, but at least acknowledge your customers and communicate what's going on.
Service is always pretty slow. Both myself and several friends had experiences where we were sat and forgotten about. The BBQ is not great. Obviously my expectations were already set below standards being in New England, but this place didn't even live up to those low standards. All the meat was dry-especially the pulled pork. Everything was flavorless.
Not good at all, the 1 star is for the drinks we had, and I only think she was heavy handed on the drinks because we were dissatisfied because on the website and their menus state they have southern ribs. Yeah ok, they haven't had the ribs in a while only baby backs which I hate. The south Carolina wings were very spicy but taste like they reheated them, catfish bites sick too. But the waitress was cool,
The brisket was leathery, half-a-chicken was dry, sweat potato fries tasted greasy, the mac 'n cheese seemed boxed (Kraft?), even the water tasted metallic, and service was slow and impersonal... all that for more money than I'd have spent at Blue Ribbon BBQ for much better food and service.
Food was so basic. What looked like the manager, was arguing with a waitress. She looked extremely uncomfortable. Our waitress was nice though she had 0 suggestions for us because she was new. The food took 40 minutes. They prioritized a very uneventful party that was happening up front. No excuse as there were maybe 20 people and they weren't even ordering food. So gf and I sat patiently for food. Waitress never checked in on our waters or asked us if we wanted any more to drink. Food finally comes. It's was nothing to write home about especially with the time it took. I csn make a hamburger in my sleep that's well done, juicy and extremely flavorful in less than 40 minutes. My sandwich just tasted like overcooked meat. The bacon stuff that was on it was cold and had 0 flavor. Yes bacon with no flavor. I haven't felt like I wasted my money on food in a while. Last night was one of them.
