My husband and I went there a while on vacation and absolutely loved it! He had a hamburger 🍔 with french fries, and he said the hamburger was delicious. I ordered the salmon sandwich on sourdough bread, and it was absolutely delectable. I LOVED it! I normally do not order a fish sandwich, but I thought this one sounded good and I’m so glad I tried it. The fish tasted like that of a quality fish and the combination they offered with it was so very good. The sourdough bread 🍞 was excellent with it as well. I did ask them to take it off the bacon since I’m not a bacon lover, but my husband is, and I gave it to him. The salad was also very fresh and the vegetables seemed like they were of good quality. I just ordered the water and it was really good too. I actually asked the waitress about their water, and I think our waitress told us it was well water. She was also very good and we bragged on her to the owner of the restaurant. They had a musician that was playing there that night, and it was just a nice touch. We are both very glad that we went and would definitely go again.
Large portions - salads were plenty large to share! Simply LOVELY guitar player kept the vibe great - not too loud but oldies you love to hear. Tons of draft beer options. SEATING TIP: If you want more restaurant vibe, sit in the side room. If you want more bar vibe, sit in the front room. Short ribs were our favorite. Very accommodating to a gluten free member of our party!
Delicious food. My Mom had a craving for New England Clam Chowder, and she got a cup of theirs at the Tavern and wished she had gotten a bowl of it and nothing more would have been needed. She said it was the best she had in years. I had the Honey Salmon entree, which was so crispy and yummy that it filled me up. Mom also got an 1846 Burger with mushrooms. The mushrooms, she said, were not, however, worth the extra cost. We stayed so long, enjoying ourselves and talking with other customers, we hadn't realized they were trying to close, and the staff did not try to rush us out either.
We absolutely love the Tavern! My boyfriend and I came here since we were on vacation and Janna made us feel right at home! We loved it so much we came back again before we left Dover. The food was amazing! The service was incredible and we can’t wait to come back again! The selection of Oysters were incredible and the atmosphere was super clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is on the hunt for the freshest seafood and a great drink selection.
Got lunch here after a day of skiing. We started with shrimp cocktail and a cheese board. Both were fantastic. For my entree I got honey glazed salmon. It was good but slightly dry. Overall great place and good service.
Stopped here for Father’s Day dinner. The staff was nice, our waitress was on point with everything. We loved being able to play bean bag toss in the back after dinner too. Would definitely recommend the haddock.
Jorja can be commended for her great service! Had thanksgiving dinner there and everything was perfection from service to food and ambiance. Jorja put a lot of effort into ensuring there were gluten free items for us (without making it seem like an inconvenience) and the thanksgiving meal was amazing (especially the gravy Oh my Gosh!). It’s great to see a spot that can adjust for gluten free!
Comfortable historic inn with tavern. Live music weekends. Fresh seafood and excellent dining. Staying here is a romantic visit to a a time gone by. The view from the upper porch during foliage season is relaxing and comfortable.
It was a beautiful date spot. Food was delicious and definitely filling. Highly recommend.
This place is awesome! The bar is so old world style and cool, a nice place to hang out and have a beer and a snack. The raw bar is phenomenal and they have really good chowder too. They do a great takeaway Thanksgiving meal that we have got the last three years and it is the best Thanksgiving meal I’ve ever had in my entire life. Every single part of the meal has been absolutely perfect three years in a row. The salmon BLT is my favourite thing on the menu for non-holiday days. It is served with a tasty salad and the salmon with bacon is delicious. Fish and chips are excellent.
It was outside seating and there was a little wait which was fine since there was 7 of us. Staff was friendly and attentive, the food took a little while to come out but our waiter let us know right away and we were not in any hurry. The cheese platter was great and I love the raw bar. Excellent place to dine. It was a bit pricey but not more than New York and worth every penny.
Beautiful historic inn— clean, friendly service ~ Charles was awesome !! Great to come “home” to after a long day at the mountain. Room with a fireplace to warm up, walk to tavern which is connected to inn, great dinner, live music, friendly bartenders AND a short walk back to your room. Complimentary breakfast made to order next day by Phil that is phenomenal. Dark, cozy, warm and historic eclectic atmosphere. A MUST try - so New England.
Came in for drinks, stayed for dinner. It was a quiet Tuesday night when we walked in, only the second party of patrons evident. The bartender, Thomas, gave us prompt attention without feeling pressured. He continued to be a great source of entertainment and information throughout the evening. Food was a hair pricier than we expected, but was also more delicious than expected. So when the check came, we felt more than comfortable paying and leaving a healthy tip. It was clear from the growing number of patrons around us, both locals and tourists alike, that the reputation of the tavern has been well earned. If we are ever in the area again, 1846 will be on our short list of places to return to.
Small, cozy , well made cocktails, and their oyster bar is a great feature. Had live music on the night we went. They might be understaffed as we had to wait for a table even though it wasn't terribly busy but seems like this is a sign of the times.
Walk amongst class when you set foot unto the prospects thee Tavern offer, top tier customer service our waiter...Professional, Cordial & knew menu items atop head. Absolutely a blesset experience beyond one's expectations. The Sea Food Array was more than plentiful & Scallops with Local Mushrooms for my Companion was such a Win! The Price is Fair it's sea food yall drink pshhh talk about Warm Welcoming grateful certainly will be back again. Semper Fidelis.
Great wings, loved the atmosphere, really nice bartender, they had some really chill mid week music happening when I visited. Really set a good vibe. I hear there is a lot of history in this place. I'll be back for sure.
Absolutely phenomenal restaurant. We were in Dover, Vermont for a short 2 night trip last week and stopped here for dinner our first night. It was so good that we returned on the second night. I got the steak tips both nights which were cooked to a perfect medium rare and complimented by mashed potatoes, vegetables and a delicious red wine sauce. My fiance got the salmon the first night, and lobster ravioli the second night. Both dishes were 5 stars. He loved the salmon, it was a generous sized piece, cooked and seasoned just right. We loved the bread board appetizer with a selection of different flavored butters and olive oil. And the drinks were great, they definitely added a good amount of alcohol. The live music and atmosphere here are awesome. Kind of dimly lit, with cute string lights. The waitresses were nice and attentive. We got our food suprisingly quick. This will definitely be our first choice for dinner when we return to Vermont. Thanks!
Amazing place with great live music. We had cocktails and fire in the middle of what felt like nowhere and it made me so happy. I'll be back.
Came pretty late on a Tuesday night after a long day of travel. The food was good and the staff were attentive.
Amazing food and amazing atmosphere!!Can’t recommend it enough.
Came here for dinner with friends after hitting the slopes and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing. We got many different apps and the we all got the burger. I have to point out the Brussel sprouts were superb! I can’t wait to visit this place again on another snowboard trip to Mt. Snow.
The staff was SUPER friendly (love them!) I didn't really know what I wanted, which is unusual for me and the bartender whipped something up on the spot and I LOVED it. The food is fantastic, they clearly know what they're doing here. This is my new Monday night spot! Super chill environment too, it doesn't feel pretentious it's just friendly and calm. Gabe and Jaimie are my favorite! And they're baker is WONDERFUL. ANYWAYS can't recommend this place enough!
Other reviews here were helpful. The Salmon bacon sandwich was very good. Georgia our server / waitress was excellent. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be. Altogether it was a fine dining experience. Service from seating to ordering was fast and easy...
Had dinner here last night. Great hummus plate and shrimp cocktail to begin for the table. Salads were fresh and flavorful, but the star was the salmon. Each of us agreed the salmon was the best we had ever eaten! Flaky and moist with the best char on the outside! We would seriously go back each night to order the salmon! Tavern atmosphere is cozy, fun, and unpretentious. Good beer and wine list, and vegetarian options. Ended the night with apple pie and good coffee. Nice waitstaff. Highly recommended!
My girlfriend and I stopped by apres-ski for a drink on St Patrick's day- band playing, lively crowd. Had a plate of oysters which were fresh and fantastic. The margaritas nearly knocked us off our seats but it was St Patty's Day so that was fine! Decided to stay for dinner- I'm gluten-free and the waitress was really knowledgeable about the kitchen and food and kept me safe- I had a burger with a lettuce wrap and my partner had the cauliflower steak- both really good. Fun place for drinks and dinner- great pub atmosphere!
This is a phenomenal little cozy Vermont restaurant. Delicious American fare, cooked perfectly. An incredible beer lineup too. Guitarist on a Monday night to boot. Families here and feels like a place run by a family who genuinely cares about the restaurant experience. Bravo!
This is our absolute go to when visiting West Dover. We enjoy the food, live music and the overall atmosphere. Have had dinner several times and lunch, never a miss on anything ordered. Burgers are delicious and the salmon for dinner! Service is OK, but I understand due to how busy it can get, possibly additional server help to support the volume of customers.
Absolutely delicious! The clam chowder is amazing. The kale salad is enough to share and delicious. The cheese ravioli with homemade meatballs were fabulous. If you’re looking for a relaxing, laid back, inexpensive dinner- look no further!
Great atmosphere. The room my wife and I stayed in had an historic comfortable charm. Charles was a great host as well. The oysters were great with dinner and they provided an incredible complimentary breakfast spread!
The 2 gentleman who waited on us were so friendly and welcoming. They gave us travel tips and were happy to talk sport with some out of towners. The food was delicious. Good beer selection. Would definitely recommend.
Walked in on a Monday night during ski season. There was a nice crowd but we were seated right away. The food was excellent! My wife and I both had the pork chop, pork was juicy and the portion size was generous
My 3 kids, wife and I stayed for two nights at the Inn for a long ski weekend. The room was clean and comfortable, plenty of hot water for showers and the location was so convenient. 6 minute drive to Mt Snow and the food at the tavern was great for kids and adults. Kids steak for $20 was a hit so was the Cesar salad with chicken or shrimp and the arugula salad. I had the scallop dish which was amazing. Real authentic old word charm, awesome bar with craft cocktails and a fine beer selection. We loved the live single musician music on both nights ad will definitely come back. Don't miss the oysters, the charm and the great waitstaff.
I cannot recommend 1864 Tavern & Inn highly enough. While the food is absolutely delicious, it is the character and kindness of the people there that make it truly special. We had a bit of a crisis and got locked out of our car in the freezing cold. We were on the waiting list for a table (they were completely full), but the owner/manager—a true gentleman—saw us struggling and insisted we wait for AAA inside the warmth of the restaurant. Even though we weren't even seated yet, he went out of his way to make us comfortable and even brought us their fresh, warm bread plate, which was out of this world! His generosity and hospitality during our emergency were beyond anything we expected. It’s rare to find a business that treats people with such genuine care, whether they are currently "guests" or just people in need of help. Thank you to the team at 1846 Tavern & Inn for turning a stressful situation into a warm experience.
We took our son out for his birthday last night and it was our first time visiting you. The food was delicious along with excellent & friendly service from Georgia made it extra special 😊 We will be back! Kim, Jake, and Peter from Colrain.
We had the best time last night. Our server was fantastic and the bartender just as nice. Such a friendly environment. The customers were all happy as well. Our lobster rolls were outstanding! They were the best we've had in years. The fries were so delicious. I ate them all!! My martini was perfect. The music was fun. We are still talking about the place. Thanks for a great evening!!
We stopped in on a Friday night without reservations but were able to get a table immediately. This is a quaint and unpretentious little Tavern nestled inside an old Inn that is still in operation. The raw bar featured five varieties of oysters that night so naturally we had to try them all. The New England clam chowder appeared to be made in house. The service was friendly and mostly efficient with a little bit of attention gap between dinner and dessert. We would definitely go back the next time we are in town.
Live music, a nice variety of drinks on tap, and quick, friendly service. The appetizers are good for 1-2 ppl, so if you have a larger group be sure to order double or a larger variety of dishes. Dinner plates are generous in size, like the pictured chicken burger that was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of spice. There’s also some quirky art on display throughout the restaurant so make sure to check them out as you walk through.
Large selection of fresh, cold Oysters and Craft Beers, best in the Valley. Full menu with offerings including Salads, Soups, Wings, Salmon, Swordfish, Steak and their own 1836 Burger. Really nice, fully stocked Bar. Friendly service, great vibe, live music and cozy fire pits to chill by. Salmon was excellent, but the Blackened Swordfish was a bit dry as was the Rice. Oysters just don’t get any better anywhere, we tried several different kinds and they were all excellent and served icy cold. Located in the heart of West Dover, in the historical West Dover Inn, Circa 1836. First come, first serve. Plenty of on site parking.
Tavern 1846 served up very decent food! Hubby and I came in for some light bites during snowboarding trip at Mount Snow. Inside is charming and inviting, service was good. We got a Large Soft Pretzel to share, the New England Clam Chowder was good. Also got a Caesar salad, and the Crispy Fried Brussels Sprouts were super delicious. This is a place that we will come back again next time in town.
Beautiful building. Great staff. Good beer. The collapse were excellent. Can't wait to get back in December. I got the restaurant mixed up with another place.
Great classic tavern. Nice selection of local craft beers and wine. Small menu but all dishes were tasty. Best service!
Due to my job I’m a weekday skier and stayed in the area on a Monday night. With limited options we went to 1846 and was delighted by the quality of the food! Nothing fancy, essentially pub-fare with a few cocktails and a little wine list. It did the job! Service was friendly, quick and accommodating. Live acoustic set provided a nice vibe. Would definitely come back when I’m back in the area on an off-day.
Ate here twice during our stay across the street. Our waitress was super sweet. The kale salad was great but the kale could’ve been massaged first to take the bitterness out & cut a little smaller. The salmon BLT was cooked perfectly, but the sourdough bread tasted like white bread and wasn’t toasted enough. We liked the flavor of everything enough to return another night… Buffalo wings were the best thing we ordered, good beer selection. Had an issue with one of the dishes, and the chef remade it and it was great. Would go back the next time we’re in the area.
This is a fantastic historical site at which we receive mixed service. The owner was on point, making sure when he was involved, we had more than top noch service. However after being seating and ordering our food we notice we never received cutlery and considering the prices (between $20-$50 per plate of food at this spot), they shouldn't have to be reminded. This was very disappointing and we could tell the services were rushed because the kitchen was about to close. When you're paying this much for food, service needs to match. Wish every one here was as dedicated as the owners.
My burger was a bit wet and sloppy but it was good! Service wasn't very personalized and you could tell the wait staff were stressed. The atmosphere was ok, just a bit bland. Appetizers were delicious! Def affordable for 5 people - $200 for apps, drinks and entrees for everyone!
very friendly bar owner , I only went to the bar. felt like a town I'd like to live in after having dinner here
amazing restaurant and food but the menu is just lacking; they should add more things and more quality chicken sandwiches
The owner here is insane. I am still shaking from this experience. It was pouring rain and we were outside waiting for our food with our service dog (yes service with paperwork) so one of the waiters invited us to eat inside. I agreed to come inside to eat instead of taking the food to go only because the server invited us to. As we were eating the owner suddenly appeared from the back and charged at us screaming and shouting "get out get out! Get out right now! Why are you here!!!" It was so aggressive that my first instinct was he did not want someone who was not white in his restaurant, it took me a moment to realize it was because of our service animal. I was so scared. Please run away . Fortunately we were the only diners there. We went and got food down the street. We showed them the paperwork for our service dog and no issues. What was that?? Was he intoxicated? Either way, I have never ever experienced anything like this. It may never happen to you, but why risk it? I feel emotionally assaulted.
Never have i written a review, but our experience made me write one. Me and my friends went for dinner, but we were treated poorly by our lady server. She’s very very rude, no greetings, no thank you, no smile, very opposite how she treated the other tables. Dropped our food like she’s mad, when we ordered another set of oysters, heard her sigh loud, didn’t ask if we needed a bag, but when we paid and gave her good tip (regardless of how she treated us) suddenly she went all nice. Find something else to do, this line of job is not for you.
10/27/25 at 7pm. Had the worst experience ever dining in. Lady server is racist(you can tell), unapproachable and rude. Server treat us differently than the other guest the first time we sat on her table. No Thank You. No talking. No smile. Drop food on the table like she’s mad. To the lady who served us, you dont deserve to work in the industry. Really bad service, dont come here.
