Located at The Ben in downtown West Palm Beach, this restaurant should not be missed. The service was great all around. From the valets, to the doorman, to the hostesses, and our server, everyone was friendly and gracious. We ordered the Truffle Frites Au Fromage as an appetizer, and were blown away. The fries come with a Gruyère fondue that you can pour over tlhem. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. The nuttiness and sweetness of the cheese will make you reevaluate all of your prior cheese fries decisions. I had the Pastrami Spiced Pork Chop. It had good flavor and was well cooked. But the Red Cabbage Mostarda that it came with melted in my mouth and I couldn’t get enough For dessert, we ordered the Carrot Cake. It had bits of pineapple and some candied nuts sprinkled on top and was served with some spiced whipped cream. This slice of cake may change your life. In my opinion, it’s one of the top desserts Palm Beach County. It is delightful I know that this is a long review. But hear me out. We went on a Saturday night in December There’s ice skating across the street, there’s Sandi the Christmas tree within walking distance, and a lot going on downtown right now. More people should’ve been at this restaurant. For a place this good, there should not have been as many empty tables. Was it dead? No. Were there patrons at the bar? Yes. But more people need to come and try Proper Grit. The service is great. The vibes are immaculate. And most importantly, the food is delicious

Gigi was awesome and attentive. The swordfish on the blt was excellent. It was a hectic morning for us but the proper grit crew was extremely accommodating to us. Will definitely recommend to friends.

I love everything about The Proper Grit! Great food, Fun Atmosphere and friendly staff. This restaurant has a great menu selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s something for everyone! A Big Thank you to the Hostess - Ruth and our amazing waiters Gorkem and Cajun for going over and beyond to provide us with an unforgettable experience! I Highly Recommend!

Proper Grit exceeded my expectation in every conceivable way. The filet mignon was extremely tender, really didn’t need a knife to cut through it. It was cooked to perfection. The crispy red snapper was a beautifully designed dish. It was almost too beautiful to eat. The red snapper was perfect with a lightly fried exterior and and buttery textured interior. You can’t complete a meal without adding one of their fantastic cocktails. The service was world class and in a timely manner. I highly recommend anyone visiting Palm Beach to check out the Proper Grit.

Another trip: my friends and I went to Proper Grit for their Daily Tea Party and it did not miss. Love this new addition to an already amazing restaurant. The atmosphere and staff were amazing. We were having such a great time that we stayed and had dinner. First experience: I took my friend her for her birthday lunch. We ordered our food with family style in mind (we ordered a few dishes and shared) it's a great way to try more dishes. We loved all of the dishes we choose. This restaurant is beautiful inside and out. Our waiter was amazing. They bring you your check in a book which is a cute touch.

Phenomenal Christmas Day Dinner dining experience. My parents and I had reservations for Christmas Day dinner this year and what a treat and celebration Proper Grit truly was! Upon being seated, we were warmly welcomed by our server who eagerly shared the specials and offered us drinks. We started with the hanging glazed bacon over cornbread and wow, you have to try it! The ambience was perfect for the holiday with exquisite background music and soft glow lighting that made the evening extra special. You can tell this is a place that has top of the line management and that no detail is spared! The men ordered the salmon, the colossal shrimp and gnocchi and we ladies went a little lighter with the shrimp cocktail and mushroom bruschetta. All was tantalizing to the taste buds! There were no leftovers and all plates were cleaned! As we were finishing up, the perfect touch of exquisite customer service was the manager (maybe his name was Ryan?) coming over to double check that our meals were satisfactory and that all went well with our visit. In this day and age that was a welcomed visit. You can tell this place is run top notch! If you haven’t taken the time or chance to head over to Proper Grit inside the Ben, I highly recommend that you do. You will not be disappointed!

Outstanding meal with the family while vacationing in the area. Foody menu that has something to offer for all types of eaters. The hanging maple bacon and cornbread were amazing to start, we also enjoyed the crab and sweet corn fritters. For the main course we had the lobster and short ribs Cavalli, braised short ribs, and the proper cheeseburger. Everyone loved their choices. This place is worth a visit, if it's nice outside their outdoor bar and patio scene looks great.

My friends surprised me with dinner here for my birthday celebrations and it was exceptional! Our server Tralanda was by far outstanding - personable, helpful, attentive and truly enhanced the experience. The bacon appetizer is a must have, as well as the espresso martinis! Steaks were cooked perfectly, everything was delicious. Thank you, Tralanda!

The hotel breakfast is lovely but Gorkem deserves recognition. He was consistently kind, detail-oriented, and proactive—remembered preferences, kept things running smoothly, and made us feel valued. He’s a major reason we enjoyed breakfast as much as we did.

Jimena, the barrista, made our group the BEST Irish coffees we have ever had. She used Jameson Black Barrel whiskey and they were so delicious. It was a wonderful ending to a perfect meal & evening with friends at The Ben. She and the Irish coffees were a DELIGHT. Thank you Jimena!!!!

I stayed for a couple of nights at the Ben Hotel the service was amazing, from the moment you arrive to the moment you check out, the staff takes phenomenal care of you and ensures your stay is smooth and they accommodate you at any time of needs. Beautiful restaurants & cozy atmosphere. Would like to personally highlight the Coffee Bar where I was greeted with warm and welcoming attitude by Jermina and Sofia. Coffee was very delicious & the girls were so sweet and awesome !

Sofia & Jermina were very lovely and knowledgeable at the Coffee Bar, one of the best coffee I have had in a long time. You also have the option to order breakfast with them for takeout which was very helpful and convenient. Not to mention their daily baked pastries are absolutely delicious & plenty of options to pick from :) Their costumer service was top notch, they made my day !

We had such a wonderful experience dining at Proper Grit at The Ben Hotel in West Palm Beach! The atmosphere was elegant but relaxed, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service made it a truly 5-star evening. Our server Gorkem was outstanding — attentive, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. It’s rare to meet someone so warm and professional. An exceptional dining experience from start to finish! Highly recommend.

I ate there on Saturday and it was fantastic. The presentation was great, the food was delicious and Our server was top-notch. The restaurant is beautiful within an awesome hotel. Good spot to have an early morning breakfast. I gave it a 4 as for hotels it’s a bit harder to get a higher rating. We had an outstanding waiter Gabriel. Very nice and personable. He does a great job, and makes sure you get the service you need. The restaurant is beautiful and the decor is right on. We will have to come to the Ben more often.

The food and drinks are great and the decor is trendy. The service is definitely hit or miss. We have been twice recently - once just for a cocktail and once for dinner. For cocktails we were there late afternoon/early evening and the bartender did not seem thrilled to have customers (we were the only ones at first), but the drinks were good at least. The food looked good so we came back for dinner a few weeks later. We had a reservation for a late Valentine’s Day celebration/ milestone anniversary dinner. The hostess hard-pressed us to sit at the tiniest table in the whole restaurant (though 2/3 of restaurant was empty as it was right around 6 on a weeknight) and a food tour was going on at two high tops directly next to the tiny table with people standing up around the high tops chatting and we would have had to squeeze in between them to sit. We were eventually reseated but made to feel unwelcome/uncomfortable for politely asking (so much so that we exchanged gifts in the car instead of during dinner, lest we offend anyone for being there any longer at our table). The food was great at least. I highly recommend the bacon and cornbread starter. Our entrees were also fresh and flavorful, as were our cocktails. Our server was also friendly and attentive, much different than our experience being seated. Not sure if I would return on my own due to service issues the two times we have gone, but the food was good enough that I probably wouldn’t turn it down if someone else suggested going there.

We had a great Proper tea experience with our server Gorkem. Although our experience got off to a rough start with the parking situation during summer fest. We had to call the restaurant and the manager had to come out to speak to valet and get everything situated. The restaurant was designed impeccably and the table presentation was superb. We were greeted by Gorkem with the warmest hospitality he was very accommodating and making sure my 2 year old daughter was part of the experience as well. The tea selection is outstanding, I opted for the decaf tea which had a subtle vanilla flavor and my mother in law had the earl grey. We loved the touch of the sand clocks to select our level of steep. The course started of with warm biscuits accompanied by jam and cream. Then we received the finger sandwiches followed by bite size dessert. Overall a must try experience.

Went with a group of 8 people, the restaurant itself is very nice. Bartender was distracted, took about 5 minutes to order a drink at a bar with no one else at. Drinks were very good and he was attentive. Sat for dinner, our waiter Mark was awesome for what it's worth! My annoyance comes on settling the check, the manager refused to split it 4 ways, or even 2 ways in a specific amount. May sound like a petty complaint but when it's 4 couples it's not easy to have 1 or 2 people pay and then figure out how much you owe them afterwards, especially when the machines are very capable of splitting. Seems like a small ask for an $800 bill, but alas. Food was decent, maybe a tad overpriced. Still would debate on returning.

This was always a top choice for lunch and dinner until now. The level of service is amazing if all you expect is apologies for terrible service. Arrived on time for reservations for 6 in the family for dinner. There was no great reason for not being prepared for us. We had to wait for a family of 10 to leave and the staff bused the tables and rearranged them for us to get seated. The service was fair. The timing of the bread, appetizers and meals was a disaster. We had to make a request for the bread after 20 minutes. Lobster bisque was lukewarm and I sent it back. 15 minutes later it came back not much warmer. The chicken pillared was a mediocre meal at best. Medium rare strip au poive came out medium. The new menu missed the mark over all previous experiences. The only reason for not getting a worse rating was that the manager did his best to provide a half dozen apologies for the lack of response from the other members of the staff and terrible service. Not on the go to list any longer. There are too many great restaurants in the area to settle for horrendous food or service.
