Haven't been here in several years, but it's just as I remembered it! I brought my fiancee, who has never been here, and he loved this place! I had a western cheeseburger with onion rings, and he had a pastrami burger with chili cheese fries, and they were both delicious. Great service too...fast and friendly!
We stumbled upon this charming little hole in the wall before heading to our Dino Live adventure, and I can’t begin to express how wonderful our experience was. The service truly stood out, especially as they went above and beyond to accommodate my child's noise sensitivity. The young gentleman who attended to us was incredibly understanding and compassionate. Our server radiated positivity, smiling throughout our visit, which made us feel so welcomed. On top of all that, the prices were surprisingly affordable. We left feeling grateful and definitely plan to return as loyal customers. It's so hard to find places like this, and we're excited to support such a caring establishment.
If you want good diner food with large portions, this is the place for you. Grab the 2 egg plate with the sausage patty, or if your brave get the biscuits and gravy, sooooo yummy. Let’s not forget the prices- both plate we had were just over 10 bux each. Need I say more? Visit this wonderful West Sacramento gem. The staff is super friendly and you might see Carol from time to time.
Best Diner! Great service! So this is the all American diner experience. The country fried steak and eggs Benedict were great. Lots of gravey on both. The ham on the eggs Benedict was almost half an inch thick! Right now they are serving cinnamon roll pancakes. They are amazing! The picture does not serve it justice. The price on their menu is $8.50 to $12 for breakfast and you get lots of food.
Man-O-Man, Carol's Restaurant sure was a sight for sore eyes! I can hardly wait. We finished up with the fresh water sea trials on Rodeo Cowboy's new boat, and I dropped him off at his Porcupine breeding center, The Pokey Pokers there on the Arden Expressway, where their motto is "The Pokey Pokers poke the hardest" Well, I'll have to punch Rodeo in the belly for thinking that one up. I then put the Ram into Giddy Up and scooted back to Carol's Restaurant as fast as I could go, they sure put out a great meal, no matter what time of the day, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner you'll get an Amazing meal! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆
This restaurant has some great atmosphere. The food is delicious. When I first tried it. The food was just savory and sweet. They have some great breakfast food. I love there eggs Benedict and there full on breakfast meals. The pancakes were absolutely fluffy. Also their waffles very great. If you get the chance come to Carol's in West Sacramento for some breakfast food. I would recommend pancakes.
You can't go wrong with Carol's French toast. They take a loaf of French bread and slice it long ways for large yummy pieces. If you don't know about Carol's just know it's a hidden gem in West Sacramento. Worth the drive for sure. My husband had the eggs Benedict, which he loves from there. The service there is also top notch. If you are looking for good food and a good atmosphere, this is the place.
Apparently this restaurant has been here for about 40 years, and Julie, my server, told me that they've been working at staying the best in the area for all that time. I gotta say, they get my vote. I was in here two days ago. I sat at the counter and had a senior omelette. It was good. But while I was there, I saw that had a steak on the menu. So today, I returned for the steak. Look at the picture. It's 8 oz of meat, which I got with hash browns and sourdough toast. They have Smuckers jam so the today was great. One hitch. Julie came back after 10 minutes and told me quietly that she hadn't put my order in properly so it was going to be a little while, and offered me a complimentary drink, suggesting it a mimosa. I was expecting a little wine flute, but what arrived was a pint glass, so I'm here, having finished my steak, shipping on this gigantic mimosa and getting drunk for breakfast. I'm on my way to the gym. I was getting breakfast on the way. It's going to be a new experience doing a full cardio and weights workout helped out by a mimosa. The food is great. The service is great, and the prices are great. Tell them Richard sent you. 🥰🥰
Came here to get a quick cheap and fast breakfast and was absolutely blown away. The food here is classic diner fare. Pancakes were so fluffy and delicious, biscuits were soft and gravy was perfectly made. My boyfriend’s chicken sandwich was really tasty and everything was so fresh. Even the coffee was good! Our waiter was so nice and funny and all the other workers were friendly and kind! Will definitely be coming back. This seems like a neighborhood favorite.
We had to wait outside for a bit, but once seated we were tended to promptly even though it was a busy Sunday. The food was amazing, the extra sauce on the side was free of charge, and our waiter was enthusiastic. Coffee was like a real cup made at home and I was shocked at how low the bill was. Thank you Carol's!!! I'll be back to visit soon!
Classic breakfast place with the most friendly staff. I have visited more than 10 times for breakfast. The food is simple and consistent and this is a no-nonsense restaurant. Most people who visit are regulars and the staff know them by name and even their orders. Reminded me of old country restaurants but in Sacramento city. Highly recommended.
Vacation flight into Sac, headed west on our way to IH-80 looking for a good local lunch without spending a bunch. Carol's was great. They know their regulars by name, love it. Nothing fancy here but lots of choices for a fair price. We always try to support local. My only suggestion is to please upgrade your bathrooms. Thanks for the homegrown atmosphere for lunch in Sacramento!
I have been to this Restaurant a few times with my family for breakfast and the experience was amazing the food was delicious the service was quick the price was fair you can't just Beat It. The staff is courteous and professional. keep up the good work.
This is THEE place I look forward to being every Saturday and Sunday morning to start my day!!! The food is consistent and as you would expect from a down to earth and friendly diner. While I'm here in the friendly upbeat atmosphere with kind, fun, and courteous staff, you feel like Family stopping by and not a just another customer being rushed through!!! A huge thank you goes out to all of the staff here for making the start of my days that much better!!! Oh and the prices are very reasonable for the food and coffee received :) Thank you!!!
Top notch!! Ten stars. Everything was absolutely perfect and a very reasonable price, even for these days. What a bargain and a very pleasant experience for breakfast.
For West Sacramento it is the in place for breakfast .Carols has a lot of regular customers. The food is not fancy, but It is consistently delicious. Also, they serve large portions.
Love this place!! The food is excellent and the service is superb.
A local gem. It's been here 37 years here and still going. Family-owned. Great service. You never have to ask to have your coffee topped off. Food is standard fare for this typical type of restaurant but always consistent.
There isnt an item over 15$ on the menu and the food is bomb fasholy. The wait is pretty quick and the service is phenominal.
Great food. Waitress was friendly. All around good place.
Carol’s Restaurant had great reviews! Our 1st visit here 10/10/2024, we had 11 family members (local Sac, Wilton, and Minnesota) come for Brunch! Very crowded indeed. . . friendly greeting by Eduardo, whom seated us after 5 minutes! Enjoyed the bountiful, very delicious plates. Rachael was our amazing server! We promised to return soon :) Today, only 3 of us dined for Brunch — outstanding service by server Matt and Eduardo! We love this warm, friendly family diner :) We ate stuffed Bell Peppers, clam chowder, Denver omelet plate, and Chicken fried steak plate! Everything was piping hot and very yummy! We love Carol’s Restaurant — worth the 45 minute drive indeed 👏 Keep your smiles, excellent hospitality, and best food 😆
We went here for breakfast with a party of 10. Food was amazing. My husbands French toast was the best I’ve ever had. I insisted on a bite. The options are unique for a family diner. Corned beef hash is real. Unfortunately, we don’t live in Sacramento, because I would be here all the time trying something different. Prices are great and so was the service.
Overall really great! Service was perfect. They were attentive but not over doing it. The food was great. The French toast was really good I recommend. & the biscuits are definitely made in house. They were thick & very filling.
Carol's Restaurant serves homestyle comfort food with generous portions and a welcoming atmosphere. It's a beloved local spot where you can enjoy a hearty meal any time of day.
Excellent service. They dont bug you every 2 minutes while your mouth is full. I ordered the mimosa, asparagus bacon omelet and a chicken fried steak. They really know how to cook food from scratch, the pairing of asparagus and feta cheese was very refreshing. Thats why I believe their chicken fried steak really betrays them, its that same made-from-frozen generic mush every diner uses. I'd certainly not order it again, and Id have them consider scrapping the option entirely or revising it. The option was a surprise considering their reputation and the other great foods on the menu.
Cozy classic atmosphere. Excellent food. Free service.
I grew up in Sacramento. I’ve been living here for about 31 years and I never heard of this place until last year when I started working in the area however I go there often when I say often I mean often and everyone there is so sweet and so loving, and they treat all of their customers the same, kind of like family. This is a very hospitality place and a great place to enjoy family time over a good breakfast or lunch. I was able to meet the owners. Carol was able to cook for me before her retirement that felt really good. I also was able to meet. The father of their wonderful children and their sons I feel like in such a short period time that I grown to love everyone there and thank you for the wonderful food. There has not been anything from this restaurant. That’s completely nasty. Everything here is amazing and wonderful. they do really cook from the soul.
So far I've realized other people have uploaded pics of bacon and eggs well done which doesn't look appetizing. However you can ask them to cook them soft/fluffy, and it is really good. Usually the ham is not that tasty but in this place, it is the best. Highly recommend! Waffles are really good!
Great staff. Thanks Rachel , Jamie, and the rest. Breakfast and sandwiches are amazing.
(Up Date): Carol's Dinner in West Sacramento is a beloved local institution, serving up classic American diner fare with a home-cooked feel. It's especially known for its hearty breakfast options, with many praising the fluffy biscuits and flavorful gravy, along with solid omelets and chicken fried steak. While the building itself shows its age, the consistent quality of the food and friendly service keep generations of customers coming back. Expect a wait on weekends, a testament to its enduring popularity as a reliable and satisfying spot for a comforting meal. (First Post): One of the best diners in the area. The food is at a really great price and the quality is excellent. The French toast is excellent. It'll make your eyes bulge.
Very good service. Very good amount of food. Very polite. Thank you.
Carol's is an old school diner serving breakfast and lunch. Food is yummy. Very well priced. Lots of locals go here. Always busy.. but they work well to get people in and seated in a reasonable time.
Not The CHEAPEST IN TOWN / JUST THE BEST IN TOWN !!! BEEN GOING HERE FOR YEARS. !! ASK FOR EDDIE TELL HIM ROY SENT YOU !!! PS MY CHOICE IS THE WHOLE HOG !!
Was fantastic portions are HUUGE! Can tell a lot about a restaurant by their gravy tasted homemade and cooked right. Servers were very attentive. Took a Lil long but you can't rush perfection, plus they were packed so I understand the wait.
Went here for an early morning treat and was delighted by the yummy Denver omelet I had along with the heavenly French toast. Our server was a nice lady and expertly handled the many tables she had. She deserves a raise!
Breakfast is my favorite. But it's no fun going places now a days with how expensive everything is. You're almost guaranteed to spend, minimum, $20 for the cheapest thing on any restaurants menu. I've been here probably 10+ times and I've never spent over $20, and I always leave satisfied. The quality, and quantity of food for the price is absolutely amazing. Steak and eggs for $14.99! Can't beat that!
Always a great atmosphere. The food is great and affordable. The server is awesome. I go around 630am.
Good food, great service by lovely people. I think this is it if you’re looking for the best breakfast in West Sacramento!
This was a nice diner to go to... Seemed like they had some regulars, and it wasn't half bad.The parking could be a little hairy when it's especially busy. But seems like a nice decent choice to go to....
Matt, our server was great! All the staff worked together magically.. I had the chicken fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs and my partner had biscuits and gravy with bacon and sausage.. both perfect choices and would suggest.. Parking, was something interesting to navigate, with their morning weekend rush, so be aware of that. Give this restaurant a try!
The food is old school diner but updated and fresh, not oily. Nice staff and good atmosphere. LOVE this place!
This place is really good i get hash browns with an omelette they have amazing food 10/10
Very good food, and professional staff. Nothing fancy, just no nonsense decor and dining.
Food was amazing greatly priced and you get a lot of food. The waitresses were really nice and friendly. Even the customers were nice and friendly. I would recommend this place and eat here again.
This Diner has been a staple in West Sacramento since I was a kid, or earlier. The foods good, the servers are amazing, and the definition of a family restaurant. We go here regularly, and it never gets old. When I go to Carols, I can't help but smile, even the times I bring the bad energy in with me.
I love this place. It does get crowded, especially on the weekends. Friendly staff. Good food. A lot of families go there. It's worth it. At least to me it is. The service only falters if they are packed and a bit overwhelmed. But we're all human. If you like a good breakfast you won't regret coming here. Sometimes you have to wait to be seated. But again only when it is really packed.
Carol's is a diner and a well oiled machine. We've been coming for years. It's inexpensive, friendly, and they handle mods well. There is almost always a wait on the weekends. Great casual joint.
Great "old school" diner! Amazing food and the service was spot on... local diners were loads of fun and friendly.
The waitresses are always buzzing and humming. It's a very busy place, but they get your food out hot into. And in a short time leave good tips, because those girls work their butts off Great portion stephanie worth with what they're asking Old school diner
I always meet family here for breakfast or lunch. I have never been disappointed with the food. The people that work there are really nice, and on the ball. Always good service and clean atmosphere. I've never waited more than 10-15 mins for a table when they are really busy. 😋
Carol's had the best turkey sausage I ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and hot! Blueberry pancakes were HUGE, but a bit plain. The service was great, and you can tell the waitresses and staff actually take time to build connections with their regulars!
Neighborhood family owned ( great family) the dish washer socks LOL just kidding he's my cousin . The food is outstanding the price is fair. Cheaper than Mc Donald's and way better........
Overall a great place. The menu is extensive and has lots of things served all day. The staff were very nice and knew many of the customers by name. I really enjoyed my Ruben sandwich. The potato salad was great. It reminded me of the place I went with my father as a kid. Great place!!
Great place for breakfast. We had Eggs Benedict and Chile relleno omelet ..both were very tasty and large portions. Parking lot free but full. Parking available on street nearby. Servers were friendly. Would return for sure.
Service was a little slower at first, but then it got a lot better after I ordered. Everyone helps where they can. Food was good and you get A LOT of it for a really good price (according to CA standards of good priced). I was able to eat off this meal for about 2-3 days (with adding maybe eggs to compliment parts of what I had left). 10/10 would highly recommend.
Bread pudding - like thd rest if their menu, they take straight forward dishes and simply excel in favourites. I cannot recommend this place more. Staff live their job and genuinely care about the customers. They remember people and are very friendly. Prices are good too.
Great service and friendly staff even when they are busy. Fresh food and a large menu. My girlfriend had the pastrami sandwich and I the Rueben and they were both excellent. Highly recommend.
Very good cafe with home style cooking. Try their cherry pie when available, with house made whipped cream!! Serves only breakfast and lunch, which is a little disappointing as I wish they were open for dinner. My family often visits Carol’s and have not been disappointed. Their pancakes are very good!
Visited for the first time and can’t believe I waited so long, since I’ve lived in west sac for my whole life! Great service, kind servers. I especially appreciate how clean everything is. I believe cleanliness says a lot about a place! We ordered biscuits and gravy, chicken hash, and a short stack of pancakes. Everything was good and reasonably priced! Will definitely be back. Thank you!
We had a great experience at this classic diner with its nostalgic look and feel. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was wonderful—friendly and impressively prompt. I ordered the chicken melt with avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, and sourdough bread, and it was absolutely delicious—perfectly grilled and full of flavor. The bunless California burger was also a hit—fresh, satisfying, and well-prepared. If you're looking for a spot with great food, quick service, and that timeless diner charm, this place is definitely worth a visit!
this is a gem. great atmosphere old time diner type restaurant with superb food and wonderful service. our server Candy was always moving. very busy on this Sunday but we were seated quickly. highly recommended. basic good food with plentiful quantities and reasonable prices. had the breakfast scramble with biscuit and strawberry waffles
Tried this local favorite for the first time. Plenty of street parking and a parking lot behind. Lots of coffee refills, not a bad wait for food. Tried their corned beef hash: there were nice pieces of corned beef, a nice crust on the hash browns and some thick sourdough toast. The French toast was thick with a light crust. So tasty. We finished it even though our stomachs were full. We’ll be back.

Carol's is a West Sacramento landmark. Like many West Sacramento residents (and visitors) my family has had many delicious meals at Carol's. I had the pleasure of eating breakfast recently with two of my adult children, two of my grandchildren and my daughter's boyfriend. I ordered Carol's corned beef for the first time, surprisingly. I usually get the two egg breakfast. Carol's corned beef ranks among the best. I appreciated fresh, diced corned beef instead of canned disappointment. Carol's portions won't leave you hungry, the prices are great, the food is delicious.
I liked this place, I've been here a few times since I came across it. It is nothing too special in the design department, lots of kitschy posters on the walls befitting a cafe/restaurant. I've only had occasion to go on the weekend, and the place is usually packed with diners and those waiting to be seated. I noticed that if you aren't one of the regulars, you may be in for a longer wait than those they know by name. I waited about 45 minutes each time I've gone and watched others come in after and get seated more quickly. But the wait is worth it. Everything I have tried has been amazing. The portions are big enough to get two meals out of. Perhaps it is not so packed on the weekdays. I'll have to check that out.
I like the tacos 🌮. They have alot on the menu.
This is a great place for breakfast or lunch. Food was ok. Staff was really friendly.
1. We were at breakfast, breakfast portions are very large. 2. I ordered coffee ☕️, they served it with a carafe of milk. And later they came and asked if I wanted more coffee, they would have just topped it up. That's great 3. We received our order quickly, despite the fact that there were a lot of people in the establishment.
I was pleased with my breakfast but my friends breakfast included Refried beans and there were hard burned chunks of beans in the meal. It was totally gross.. I have eaten at this restraunt in the past and have had good experiences and even ordered by doordash to my house. As you can see the pancakes were amazing so I'm going to just say beware of the Refried beans.. To be fair we didn't point it out to them or ask them to fix it. I just think the cook should slow down and take a little more care when plating food. This is a simple place with down to earth staff so don't expect anything booshie.. lol.. over all still a place I would continue to go to..

It had a 4.6 on ratings, so we decided to try it out. It was an old diner, and most of the crowd was older, retired people. The food was bland, but the portions were larger than usual. Most plates were around $10, so I can see why the ratings were high.
The food was actually really good, but after spending nearly 2 hours here and long waits for everything, I don’t see us coming back again. Took about 15-20 minutes between getting our waters and then finally being able to order. That’s on top of the long waits for being greeted, seated, getting food, and the ticket. All the while we were pulling out all the stops to entertain our baby. I will say, this was not for lack of the servers trying. I saw them constantly moving and running around, so this isn’t to discredit their hard work. Maybe understaffed or something. The country fried steak and the pork chops were very tasty though.
This was our first time at this place—a clean, welcoming environment. However, there are two entrances to the restaurant. Each entrance has a sign to check in with the hostess, but that process needs improvement. We waited before I realized I needed to go to the other side, only because I asked. I ordered breakfast enchiladas, which were good. My husband’s corn hash was very bland; we will not order this again. We would come back to try other menu items, but overall, it was a good experience.
Ordered steak and eggs. Steak should have been medium rare. Was medium. Home fries and eggs over easy were good but if you're going to have to get steak because they ran out of pork chops, they'd better cook it right. I don't think (aside from the waitress and host) that I saw anyone under 55 in there. Waitress was pleasant and quick with the check when I needed it. (My lunch is only 30 mins)

I came here to pick up a order. The order was delivered incorrect so I went back to the store to have the order remade to pay out-of-pocket. The young cashier act like she had a problem supposed to be the manager came and dealt with the problem when I came back to pay for the food for the customer to bring them the correct order. The young one went back, started pointing at me to the other servers talking shit. I told them that that is not the way you treat customers. Ray supposed to be the owner did not to diffuse a problem and made the problem worse, all he had to do was pull me to the side and apologize for the rudeness of his cashier and because he did not do so I give this store a one star.
Ended up leaving after waiting a while to be greeted and seated. Staff looked frazzled, disorganized, disoriented, inattentive, and provided no instructions related to seating. There were two entrances. Both had signs saying please wait to be seated. There should probably be a better system for a busy place like this.
