Great ambiance, great service, and a wonderfully knowledgeable waiter who walked us through the menu with confidence and enthusiasm. We started with some awesome local oysters, the tuna tataki, the burrata, and the crispy Brussels sprouts (the other appetizer!) — all of which were fantastic. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. For entrées, the paella was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had — rich, thick sauce, tons of finely chopped chorizo, and scallops cooked to absolute perfection. The filet was also cooked perfectly: extremely tender, melt-in-your-mouth, and packed with flavor. Dessert was top-notch as well. Highly recommend the cheesecake and the bread pudding — both were outstanding and the perfect finish to the meal. If you’re visiting the area and looking for fine dining, you have to go here. Highly, highly recommend Circa 1922.

Soooo. I am quick to give a review when I have a good experience. Tonight was my 2nd time visiting Circa 1922. I've been to 4 High End restaurants this week. This was my best meal by far. I ordered the Paella without chorizo because I don't eat pork. The manager, Jenna came to me directly and said we can do that! She was working hard tonight because..as Wilmington just had a historical snowstorm... Some people couldn't make it into work but I digress... This was one of the best paella dishes I ever had. Rice was cooked to perfection, the seafood was fresh and to her testament everything was extra spicy as I like it. I can't leave out Matt the bartender because he was serving great drinks and recommended the best red Blend wine, Involuntary Commitment to go with dinner. Such a great experience. Service was wonderful. I always need to include that we were the only African Americans in the restaurant at this moment and we were served with the best professionalism and service.

We had a great experience for dinner here and great service from our server Gage. I highly recommend the Mushroom Bruschetta. Delicious cheesy bruschetta topped with roasted mushrooms. Great appetizer. I got the Halibut for dinner and enjoyed it tremendously. The halibut was perfectly cooked and the sauce for the dish is simply delicious.

Went here for date night with hubby. Everything we had was delicious. We had their grilled octopus, tuna poking, paella and split a carrot cake at the end. Highly recommend!

Wonderful service from the time we arrived. Our server explained the menu well including rotating options. He brought an extra bread appetizer for our 6 year old son who clearly loved the bread. We ordered the eggrolls and tuna tataki appetizers, scallops and filet mignon entrees, and a key lime cocktail. All food was excellent! Also, really enjoyed the pianist. Will be back 😊

This is one of my favorite restaurants, so I decided to celebrate my birthday here. My husband and I selected from the Prix Fixe menu. We both ordered the Caesar salad. I ordered the pork Milanese and he ordered the Bolognese. The salads were huge! We could have easily shared one. It was delicious. My pork Milanese was outstanding! It was a large cut, nicely breaded (not thick in breadcrumbs), topped with arugula, tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and a remoulade. It was one of the best Milanese I've ever had. The Bolognese is always a hit and favorite too. For dessert, we had the mini crème Brule and mini peanut butter mousse. Codi provided very nice service. Cocktails are pricey. We were waiting at the bar for our table, as we got there a little early. The bartender said they ranged $16 to $18 (prices not posted on the menu). That's a little high, so I waited to order a glass of sparkling wine at dinner. The place was pretty full. I love the atmosphere of the place.

We had an excellent time at Circa. We have lived in the Greater Wilmington area for 3 years now and this is our first visit. We will definitely be back. All of the food was extremely well done. They were accommodating for our children and were very quick with our orders for how busy they were. The place itself has a fantastic aesthetic. The piano player arrived about halfway through the meal and added an amazing feel to the atmosphere.

Incredible dinner experience here at Circa 1922. We haven't been back in Wilmington for quite some time but the service, food, Atmosphere were everything we remembered. We sat upstairs of this old Bank and could still here the pianist playing downstairs. Put this place on your list if you haven't already.

One of the best meals I've ever had, delicious! We received excellent service! I want to come back many times! 🥰

The food was amazing!!! The service was amazing!!! All unique, rich, complex flavors!! The brussel sprouts were our favorite dish!! The entrees are large and do not need to be paired with additional sides. We had leftovers to enjoy later. We will be back!! Great job, Circa 1922!!!

Great food and service and atmosphere. The bolognese was a little dull and brown feeling, didn't really pop. Steak was perfect. The salads were far more delicious than a simple ceasar salad or greens salad usually ever can be. The fresh focaccia was wonderful. Deserts were great.

This is a great place for a date night or going out with colleagues to a slightly nicer place downtown. The food is delicious, service was nice, and an enjoyable atmosphere. Location and parking are convenient. I would definitely eat here again.

My wife and I dined here for the first time on 12/7 for dinner. Lyndon, our server was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and professional...she really enhanced our experience! I had the best Manhattan I've ever had, my wife had a tequila/aperol concoction that was very good as well. For dinner I had two appetizers- the carpaccio and charred octopus...both amazing! I wasn't super hungry, these two apps hit the spot. My wife enjoyed her salmon dish as well. Overall great experience, highly recommend!

We’re looking for someplace to go for dinner. That was nice and decided on circa 1922. The pictures of the food online looked really good and we like that area. We started with an assortment of three different kinds of oysters and some fried calamari. Both were excellent. I had the butcher steak which was cooked to perfection. It came with gnocchi and mushrooms, which were equally as good as the steak was. I also had a Whiskey old-fashioned that was to die for.

R
Rachael King

We had a fantastic experience this evening. Their focaccia bread is delicious! I ordered the ravioli and my husband had the flounder and we both were very impressed. They grill their broccoli and he said it was the best he's ever had. I highly recommend visiting and trying.

Elegant fine dining in the heart of downtown Wilmington. Food is sensational, particularly the Octopus and the Bolognese. Although advertised as a tapas place, there are a number of full sized entrees, as well. Great bartenders and excellent service. Highly recommend.

Circa 1922 is the perfect place to celebrate special moments! The food and drinks were absolutely flawless, with every bite and sip crafted to perfection. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, making it ideal for any occasion. From start to finish, everything about our visit was exceptional. Highly recommend for your next celebration!

My husband and I are passionate about good food, and this restaurant exceeded our expectations. The oysters were fresh and delicious, the octopus was the best we’ve ever tasted, and the paella was outstanding! Our waitress, Lynden, was exceptional—professional, incredibly friendly, and brought a wonderful, upbeat energy to our experience.

I've ate here before but had not left a review yet. The food served here is just phenomenal. My husband and I started with the crab dip and then followed with the bolognese and hanger steak. We finished with the coconut sushi. Everything was delicious, the drinks were good and the service was excellent. I recommend for anyone wanting an upscale meal. Lastly props to the live piano entertainment, the gentleman was excellent and I enjoyed most of his song elections.

We stopped at Circa 1922 tonight on the last day of our NC trip, and it certainly did not disappoint. The hostess was so kind and welcoming! Our waitress Paige, was professional, attentive, and courteous. The atmosphere is romantic and moody - absolutely gorgeous! The food… one of the best meals we’ve had! Our salads fresh and flavorful, our filets cooked to perfection- melt in your mouth, our desserts were fresh and creamy, not too sweet, and our drinks were fabulous! Not too pricey, especially for the atmosphere and devine food. Cannot recommend enough!

J

Lovely dining and fantastic food! Attentive service. Rotating/seasonal menu. Recommend the mushroom bruschetta (bread made in house) and PEI Mussels were best ever - delicious and not too salty broth. Pianist played the baby grand, making it festive and lively but not overbearing. Has upstairs seating as well if not into the music.

My husband and I — our first ever in-person date was here. The food was incredible, our waitress was SUPER nice, and there was even something about the water that was just… delectable. I don’t remember it being very expensive either. Would happily recommend this restaurant to everyone I know as long as they bring me the leftovers. (The crab dip was also FAN.TAS.TIC. I’ve yearned for it literally every day since!!!)

The original restaurant we had picked for the night had a 2 hour wait for a table, so we ended up looking for somewhere else to eat and found Circa 1922 recommended online. We’re so glad we didn’t eat at our original place because we LOVED Circa 1922! We were able to find a reservation online for a table in the next half hour. Parking was easy (although paid). Our table was ready as soon as we arrived, even though we were early. The hostess and our waitress were both very friendly and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS. I ordered the hanger steak and it was perfect. The calamari was really well seasoned and the wasabi aoli was a great touch. My spouse had pasta and it was also very good. The ambiance was really enjoyable, mood lighting, not too loud, tables spaced out. Overall a great experience and will be going back on our next trip to Wilmington!

Fine and casual; food is good; service is incredible; atmosphere is friendly and elegant. Bolognese was delicious but it needed a little bit more pasta (too much sauce), filet was good, pork Milanese goood.

My first time attending but it was my parents return and everything was absolutely wonderful. Sara was our server and she was a diamond truly attentive and possessed a warm spirit. I loved the portraits and dim light it transported you into relaxed world. We all did the pre-fixe menu and the portion sizes were amazing we also shared the crab dip which was to die for. The pre-fixe menu was valued at 40$ which was a gracious deal for 3 courses. We will be returning thank you Sara.

As we were walking down front street we were looking at Circa 1922 from across the street deciding where to get dinner. A very sweet young lady waved us over and we were sold! Angela’s positive and happy demeanor convinced us on coming in and we are so glad we did! The mussles appetizer was delicious, scallops were amazing and the butcher steak was on point. Service was top tier and crème brûlée mini dessert was very good. Can’t wait to go back!

A delicious date night evening for our first night in Wilmington. The sangria was vibrant and strong! Starters, mains and dessert all were top tier. The music created a nice atmosphere, whilst the place was very busy there was no long waits and the staff were very attentive. Thanks for having us!

Wow!!! The food is amazing here. I was blown away! The vibe is super chill and such a cute location. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There was live piano music, which was a nice surprise. Parking is a little challenging, which is expected in downtown Wilmington, so plan accordingly. I wanted alllll the things so I will have to keep going a least until I try everything. The seared octopus was our sharable and was fabulous. Seared scallops wow!!!

We had the most wonderful experience at Circa 1922. We were in New Wilmington for the first time and were lucky enough to get a NYE reservation. We were celebrating our anniversary as well. The food was exceptional! The service, Amanda, was wonderful. The atmosphere was warm and cozy! If you are ever in the area and want an amazing experience, get a reservation and enjoy!

This was our first visit. Have was our server and he did not disappoint. He engaged in friendly conversation and was attentive without being overbearing. I watched him at other tables and the same fine qualities were exemplified. He was one of the more finer servers. The ambiance was perfect, the food exceeded expectations. I had the paella and my husband had the salmon from the Prix fixe menu. Absolutely delicious.

Was visiting from out of town for the weekend. Lovely experience. Loved our waitress. She was so funny and helpful. We had the crab dip and mussels apps. Both 10/10. She had the paella. 10/10. I had the potato gnocchi. 8/10. Great cocktails. Will definitely be going again if I'm ever in Wilmington. I preferred this place over the pricey Italian steakhouse.

Absolutely wonderful. Let me start by saying we find it difficult when dining out to find somewhere top notch that checks all the boxes. With Circa 1922 you have found just that. We celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary and from the start the charming decor was warm and inviting. At 1st we were concerned being sat next to the bar but between the delicious food and the charm of Noel our server the bar was all but non existent. The piano player was a welcome addition. I can say this was our 1st time dining here and there will be plenty more visits to follow. Thank you Circa1922 fir a most relaxing, warm, and enjoyable night.

Wife and I have been here twice now and we absolutely love it! We sat at the bar both times because that’s our preference. First time we both had entrees and the mussels appetizers. Paella was delicious, but the mussels are a must. Go for happy hour. Get the mussels. Get the sliders. Trust me. Chris the bartender is on it. Great service and cocktails, and a fantastic space with a wonderful bar. It’s definitely a mainstay in the rotation of wonderful dining options here in Wilmington.

Simple menu, great flavors, and well executed. Came in tonight and had a great meal in a relaxed, yet elegant setting. The building is elegant, but not stuffy. We fit right in wearing a sun dress and shorts/collared shirt respectively. Our server, Brandon, was personable, and efficient. All in all, the front of the house was managed very well. On to the meal itself... We started with the calamari and it was light. crispy, and full of asian inpired saucy goodness. For the mai. event, my wife and I both went with the preset menu. We both chose the market salad... the produce was fresh, and the goat cheese and vinaigrette balanced it out nicely. My wife chose the salmon entree, while I went with the bolognese. The salmon was cooked nicely, with very crispy skin, served over a red bean and corn hash. She said it was terrific. My bolognese was tasty and I enjoyed it... However, the Tagliatelle wasn't hearty enough to hold up to the sauce and got lost to some degree. A heartier noodle would have been perfect (pappardelle). We each had some of the chocolate and creme brule deserts and they were great. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the experience... I would definately eat here again.

After walking in to this beautiful historic gem, I knew I was in for only good things. Circa 1922 did not disappoint. Brandon was our server. He was the perfect blend of polite, knowledgeable, personable, and was a comedic relief. All the food was to perfection. The crab dip could’ve used a drizzle of lemon, but otherwise everything was balanced and portioned well. This will be a go to place for an upscale dining experience and service to remember.

Everything was incredible. Our waitress was fantastic, courteous, outgoing, and attentive. Where do we even start about the food... there was not one bad thing that we ordered. Not to mention, it was our 6 year anniversary! We felt so special and taken care of when they brought out our sparkler. The live music was to DIE for.

Came here to celebrate finding my dream job in a brutal employment landscape and we could not have chosen better. Tried the barrel aged manhattan and old fashioned—both phenomenal. Lobster arancini special was deliciously rich without being heavy. Went for the prix fixe, which is an incredible value. Super fresh caesar salad, perfectly cooked filet mignon with exquisite accompaniments, delightful panna cotta with raspberry. Thanks for a great evening!

Headline: Great vibe, warm, professional service, and fabulous food- an absolute homerun! Dining at Circa 1992 was a real treat. Centrally located in the downtown area, the space is warm, welcoming, and visually appealing. Our server, Noelle, could not have been more welcoming and professional and her recommendations were spot on. She made the experience that much better. Bread was served with a high quality olive oil, a very good sign. I ordered the Honey I'm Home cocktail which was delightful (so I ordered a second one). The brussels spouts appetizer was delicious (I was a bit nervous about how the peanuts in the dish would come of and the answer is perfectly). My salad, the mixed lettuces with goat cheese, pomegranates, and some other stuff was dressed with a light vinaigrette was terrific. I ordered the salmon, cooked medium, skin on and couldn't have been happier. The side, a root vegetable medley casserole was out of this world. For dessert, I sampled both the honey lavender pot de creme (wow) and the bread pudding, which was looser than most, but also the best I've ever had, was served with vanilla gelato. As I write this review, I'm thinking about when I'll dine there again, and the answer is soon.

We dined at Circa for New Year’s Eve and had mixed feelings about the experience. The menu was well planned and accurately reflected the dishes that were served, and the food itself was good—this was definitely the highlight of the night and deserves credit. The drinks, however, were average and nothing out of the ordinary. For my personal taste, they were made a bit too strong and lacked balance. We made a 10:00 PM reservation specifically hoping to ring in the New Year at the restaurant, as many places offer a midnight toast or some form of celebration. Unfortunately, we were informed during the evening that the restaurant would be closing at 11:30 PM. This left us scrambling right before midnight, surrounded by intoxicated crowds downtown, which was not the experience we had planned or expected. To add to that, our waitress seemed rushed throughout the night and repeatedly mentioned needing to be home by midnight. Because of this, the service felt hurried, and I didn’t even finish my second drink. Overall, I was disappointed with the NYE experience. While the food quality was good, the lack of celebration, early closing, and rushed service made this a night I wouldn’t choose to repeat for a special occasion like New Year’s Eve.

I want to preface this by saying we had an unfortunate start to our meal. There was seemingly an issue between the staff and another table, and it took a long while to be greeted and taken care of. Not to the fault of our waitress and the other staff, but we did start off on the wrong foot. However, it was made right by the staff with some different items to try, and a free round of drinks so thankful to the experience to end on a much more positive note. Our waitress Dana, and the Service Manager Jenna were wonderful. After a bit of a rough start, we got started with drinks and their pre fix menu. Like other good restaurants in town, a pairing of signature cocktails to go along with the food is welcome. I thought the drinks were a good accompaniment - I would definitely go back for the “Honey I’m Home”, a good old fashioned type drink with warm ginger. The salads that come with the pre fix are HUGE, so be careful not to fill up on that before your meal. Both the Cesar and the Mixed Lettuces were quite good, and a nice start to the meal. The salmon was perfectly cooked with an incredible crust, and because of the seasonal menu we were treated to a gratin that had some variety of potato’s, carrots, onions with a mustard base sauce that rounded out the dish well. The butternut squash ravioli was a little of a gamble, not that I feared that it would be bad - more I was cautious since it seemed much different than the other menu items. I was very happy to get this item though because the brown butter sauce was incredible. The squash purée was soft, and the ravioli had perfect bite to it. Served with pieces of fried herbs gave the dish nice pops of crunch. A nicely well rounded dish. Lastly, we ended with the Lavender Honey Pot De Crème, and the Blood Orange sorbet. While the sorbet was good (it’s sorbet how could it not?), the star for me was the Pot De Crème which, think of the Crème without the Brûlée, but infused with just enough lavender to be floral, and a nice sweetness from the honey. I am a sucker for custard, and this one was great. A great experience in the end, and I look forward to sharing another meal with them in the future. Thanks to the wait staff for making everything right, and thanks to the chefs for delicious food.

E
Elizabeth Dickens

All we had was dessert and drinks at the bar. The bartender had attitude! I tried 3 different red wines and didn't care for any of them, but I had one anyway. The lemon drink was tasty, and the mini desserts were fantastic. The 4 star review is due to the bartenders attitude and frankly should have been less.

B

Service is good, they are pet friendly and have a nice terrace. The food is good but everything is fried and not big dishes… the atmosphere is good.

Very lovely space with good retro decor. The waiters were good and food came out pretty quickly. Food was tasty for the most part but very small portions. Parking around here can be dicey, so plan for this when coming.

Went to Circa 1922 for a post wedding dinner, it was excellent! Food was delicious, Pork Osso Bucco definitely one of the best dishes I've had in town - portion was HUGE (big part of why it was excellent). Everything was delicious, the croissant bread pudding was also phenomenal. Only gripe is that the first waitress told us wine by the glass is 50% off on Wednesdays, so we ended up getting 2 glasses of wine. Check came and we were charged full price, and second waitress told us it was 50% off bottles, not glasses...? A little bit clearer communication would have been nice. Waitress even brought out a sparkler for us to congratulate us! Excellent service. Will definitely come back. Calamari 4.5/5 Pork Osso Bucco 5/5 Seared Scallops + Rissoto 4.5/5 Croissant Bread pudding 5/5

Previously Circa has not disappointed in terms of service, food, and live music. The most recent time, however we made reservations ahead of time and were told to wait outside on the sidewalk in the cold. The hostesses did not acknowledge the matter and even with a reservation, we ended up waiting over 20 mins outside. Our server was incredible, and food was delicious as always. We weren’t there on any occasion or holiday, so it’s surprising that they would be so behind on reservations and disappointing that they made no attempt to rectify the miscalculation.

L
Lierin Abdo

We had a nice night overall but the dining experience was a bit underwhelming. Cocktails were good, and the tuna poke bombs were the highlight of the night. The octopus had an odd flavor, though the potato foam was seriously fantastic. The scallop entree left something to be desired, enjoyed the melted celery and leeks, but the filet had a strange gamey taste—my boyfriend couldn’t eat it. Probably better for drinks and apps than a full dinner.

J
John Kiziuk

Been here a half dozen times and really gave it a chance. I truly wanted to love it here but sadly it has a high end cheesecake factory feel. They turn tables and push the food out, not a relaxing dining experience. There are so many other options in downtown with far better food and service.

J
Jessica Harris

We had reservations for Valentines day. They served only a prefix menu. The food was hardly luke warm. The service was very rushed. Overall was not a great experience for the amount of money spent.

A
Angelica Melsopp

If you're going to announce a prix fixe menu on Valentine's Day, please do so at the time of making the reservation or don't allow Valentine's Day reservations at all until the prix fixe menu is decided upon. People decide whether or not they want to go to a restaurant by looking at the menu. We were bamboozled by a prix fixe menu that was more expensive than what we would've spent had we just ordered what we actually wanted off of the regular menu. We will be spending less money elsewhere at two different, nice restaurants for Valentine's Day weekend... because they will have what we actually wanted to eat.
