Dominican Deliciousness in Brooklyn: At Chef Torribo’s restaurant, it's what I call New York raw - bold, Hispanic and tasty … and oh so my home city, New York! Named after the restaurant’s Chef Torribo, its a Dominican restaurant and the whole team at this restaurant come from the country’s capital. This was my first time in my 30 years in New York that I dined at a Dominican restaurant. I was quite excited to say the least and enjoyed my visit as a new adventure! Let's start with drinks first: There is a light and refreshing lemonade that is homemade and fresh at this Dominican diner. It's pre-sweetened but not too sweet and quite refreshing indeed - just in case you are very health and fitness conscious like me. My all time favourite at this restaurant is passion fruit juice. I come from an Asian island, Sri Lanka, that specialises in passion fruit juice. This was not fresh passion fruit juice but the cordial flavour was so comforting to me. I was in heaven sipping on these drinks which are just 5 dollars a pop. Torribo has such a wide and vast menu that you are quite spoiled for choice. You can see everything you order right in front of you like a school canteen bar. I had to navigate around the menu to my vegetarian tastes which took a little gymnastics. Here are my favourite mostly vegetarian recommendations for you: Fresh salad! I really enjoyed the freshness of the vegetarian produce at this restaurant. The tomatoes, avocados, plantains and yucca were delicious and well prepared. I must be in a gritty farm to table spot, I chuckled. A plate of rice and beans (so delicious!), one meat (I suggest the chicken) plus fresh salad will only cost you 12 dollars. And it's an enormous plated portion which I could barely finish. They have some very tasty prepared salads, such as macaroni salad, and potato salad which I thoroughly enjoyed, especially because they were not too creamy on the mayo dressing and just light and right. Order a spoon or two of these two salads with a cheese empanada (so yummy) and it's the perfect light snack or brunch plate for just 4 dollars For dessert I had the most delicious flan I have tasted in the United States. There's something about this Jamaica Avenue location that has this desert being served up par excellence. I found the service at this spot, like I said, New York raw, meaning efficient and fast with the right amount of Dominican-tude as I call it: with no bad attitude just New York "let's get down to it and fill your tummy up real yummy." They also serve a breakfast of fried eggs, mashed plantains (I love it) and toast. I recommend this spot for a fast meal or quick pick up / take out order in person. Also, if you are driving in and out of the city it's a nice location too as there are a lot of street parking spots in the area. It's also located near a cost effective supermarket and by the 75 Elderts Lane subway to JFK and Wall Street in the opposite direction which makes it a good stop for tourists, budget travellers and backpackers in and out of the city to get a real New York Brooklyn feel. I reckon a meal at this restaurant can cost you as little as 10-15 dollars with a drink depending on what and how much you order carefully. It's a clean, modern and a no frills spot. An excellent place to quietly catch up on emails and do some work on the laptop. So on that note I wish you a delicious and dime-conscious meal at Chef Torribo's restaurant!
Good food and good customer service!☺️

the restaurant is good, it is about one or two years old and the food is very good. The only bad thing is the employees who are unprofessional and unfriendly. On the menu they always have a lot of variety of food, they make rice, beans, pork, beef, chicken, fish, salads, soups, for dinnin in and delivery. I live like 8 blocks away and every time l call to order it always arrives super fast in less than 20 minutes… they cook low in fat and are very clean. the only thing they have to improve is the service and the quality of the employees. they have to learn to know how to treat a customer and leave satisfied.

Been coming here for lunch on and off.. I keep coming cause the food is very good.. Problem is the girls make up the price.. I got a large lunch usually $12 this time I got charged $15.. also the portions are never same and they fill the plate up with rice unless you stop them.. all anyone wants is consistency in a togo place.. that doesn't happen here.. otherwise the staff is nice and the place is always clean..
Their food is good, but some servers have nasty attitudes. One lady did not want to take my order. I sat there waiting for 5 minutes. I even said hello when I walked in; she rolled her eyes and walked away

Food is good but service not so great. They seem to put together the combos as they see fit. I use to order a family combo every other day and it would always change. I use to just go with it but one day they literally gave me the bottom of the barrel hard rice and it was delivered so i couldn’t even change it. They told me to bring the rice back the following day and thay would switch it lol. Terrible

I’ve had A LOT better in other places on Jamaica. The rice and beans had no flavor whatsoever. The beans were watery and only garlic flavored. No salt at all, same with the rice. White rice is not hard at all to make. Actually there was maybe 10 beans in the watery “sauce”. The maduros were dry. The tostones had no flavor. The pork chicharon had a lot of fat. All went in the garbage. We were afraid we would get sick. They are very overpriced. Just wanted to try it out and we did. Lesson learned. I’ll stick with Caridad and Tropical. Never done wrong by us.
I won't buy from that place again. The prices are too high, and the food was horrible and salty. The food went straight to the trash. This is the first time I've bought from there, and I won't be going back. The owner should change the cooks at that place.
First time here today ! Bought chicharron with white rice and beans, it was the nastiest and oldest pork I’ve had. It taste like they had kept this pork out for days , and everything was stale. The only thing fresh was the avocado. The workers were very rude as well , and acted as if the customers were bothering them. It was an overall terrible experience. Will not be coming here again if I could give a zero 0 I would. Poor service for a first time customer , and it was lunch time,
I’d like to start off by saying I don’t usually write reviews but this one was so bad, I couldn't believe it. Especially after waiting months for their opening to support a local spot. I came in at 7 in the morning, as soon they opened the doors. I ordered the #1 (2 eggs, bacon, and home-fries). Trying to explain to the lady alone, what I wanted was a mission, she didn’t even know the menu... I mean come on it’s the FIRST listed item. I waited about 10 mins, and when the chef came out to hand the food. They gave me French fries instead of home fries! I explained the error to which they apologized but would not correct my order. Instead giving me a lame excuse that they don’t have potato’s to make the home fries. No potato’s at 7am? Your breakfast menu is on and you have no potato’s? NO, they just refused to fix my order and forced me to take the French fries. I payed for my $6 order with $20 and the lady handed me back $11 DOLLARS! I couldn’t believe it, to which I had to correct her again. HORRIBLE, JUST HORRIBLE. It’s one thing to ruin my order but to rob me as well, on my first time there?! NEVER AGAIN. HORRIBLE SERVICE LACK OF COMMUNICATION (no english) ATTITUDE (SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!)
Food was decent just alittle too salty the reason I'm giving it a one star is because of there Customer service when I ordered over the phone the women didn't know English got an attitude with me and told me to speak Spanish then told another lady to help her she did but didn't even ask me if that's all I wanted to order she just hung up on me I had to call back cause I wasn't done ordering I wanted to order somthing else smh both women were rude. I don't know how they can have people like that taking ppls orderes. That was my first and Last time I would not order from there never again. They going to loose alot of business because of there workers. I had a horrible first experience!
I called to make a delivery and two of the girls had the most unappealing responses. I spoke well spanish and asked to order for a delivery to my house . They act stank and just kept passing the phone to each other then blocks my number from ordering . I live down the block i will make a visit because i know the owner my self he has other restaurants that have way better services but i choose this one as its close by . Disgusting attitudes always from dominican women working in resturants . I say this as a dominican woman my self . Garbage women who pick up with the worst greetings too . To top it off its not just this one time its EVERYTIME .
Weird place. I walked in, and the woman seating, behind the counter (barely visible BTW) did not acknowledge my presence at all. I figured maybe it is too early in the AM, so she might be tired. I say " buenos dias" twice and it goes unanswered both times. No attempt to service me at all. She didn't flinch nor stood up to greet me. Food looked good in their trays though. I guess they don't need a new customer.🤣🤣🤣
I ordered a Combination order the beans were spoiled. I called to Complain and the phone attendant said it was not possible she offered to send me another bean replacement. Really do you think I want to eat any more of your food.
Their food is overpriced and overrated not that great
