7/6/24, located at junction of 84 & 35. Area gets congested with parked cars. Can be difficult to find parking spot. Line can be long to place order. No shade from hot sun while waiting in line. Place order, find seating, wait with buzzer, self serve water, self serve food. Had full rack, a little dry, overcooked. BBQ sauce is not overly sweet and tangy. Large seating area.
I love this place. Great memories since 1989 when I first was introduced here on my FZR400. Midweek breakfast rules. Open roads. Hot coffee. Good people. More than two decades later, this place still means so much to me. Today, I purchased, quite likely my final new sportbike and before I rode back to the City, I felt a draw to visit Alice's on the new motorcycle. As always, the staff, food, and atmosphere was pure Alice's. Just like the old days.
Located in the hills, so there would be winding roads to reach here. But totally worth it as the food and ambiance is great especially if you want to dine amidst giant sequoias. The shrimp fajitas was definitely good. There might be little to no network depending on the mobile carrier. So better save the map especially if staying late. Definitely recommend for group or couple casual dinings. Fun fact: They have a burger named BMW!
I absolutely love Alice’s! It’s a fun drive up Skyline and there are many motorists that stop there on the weekends. Everyone there is so nice! You order first, seat yourself, and when your food is ready they buzz you. The outdoor patio area is my favorite place to enjoy my meal! Sometimes there is live music too! They typically always have a gluten-free and dairy free option on their menu/specials! I ordered the stuffed bell peppers with no cheese! The desserts we ordered looked delicious-but not DF or GF. I can’t wait to go back for a date night!
Rolled up on a busy night, looking for live music and dinner. It was close to 6 pm. The parking lot was packed, but I managed to find a spot immediately! The live band was a crowd pleaser with many patrons on their feet, movin' and a groovin'! First stop, the back bar. Checked out the on-tap selection. Not extensive (for a beer snob) but satisfied with my choice of IPA. The characteristic vibe of this place is sort of like an indoor-outdoor pub; lots of patrons in conversation, smiles, hugs, laughter, children playing outdoors, and dedicated servers maneuvering through the seating areas whilst working their rush-hour magic. The menu has something for everyone (well designed) and this visit, I ordered a pizza for the first time ever. Pizzas are available Wed thru Sun, and are beautifully crafted in a secret kitchen, built inside a hollowed-out ancient-growth Redwood tree! (Actually not, but the elves tell you otherwise). My, my! The combo was out of this world! I highly recommend the pizza if it at all indicates while you peruse the menu. The live music this particular eve was set up on the front stage, a local fave and with a clean sound, not too overpowering for those in the dining area close to the stage. Speaking of dining areas, the options are vast. Food is served off the main menu anyplace you'll find a seat: the bar counter, bar area booth seating, back deck, picnic areas on the grassy perimeter, side deck (which has closed off areas for cooler days & eves) and main dining area in the very front. I don't think there is any "bad" seat in the house. However, it has many open air areas, so dress warmly on cooler days/nights. One final note on the service: I've never had an unpleasant experience with the service at Alice's. Yes, it's popular, can get busy with a backlogged kitchen, BUT it is worth the wait if so. Many staff are locals who grew up as young patrons and eventually became employees. You'll often feel their heart and soul while making sure you're enjoying the experience of Alice's. Its easy to feel right at home here.
beautiful place nested in the woods. We have been waiting to visit this place and this came out to be one of the best brunch/breakfast joints visited in the woods. Do recommend this for great food and location. Icing for us was meeting the horses which are not there otherwise but did came in when we were there.
Great spot to hang out, especially if you're into engines and good vibes! Even though I'm not an American good lover Alice's is absolutely worth it. Very glad I came here. Super relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a weekend stop. The place is well kept, dog-friendly, and attracts a fun crowd of car and motorcycle enthusiasts. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
Such a fun place! We stopped in for a little date night and it was great, we tried all the specials, fried artichokes, Cajun pasta, and chicken picatta. All were great! We loved the fried artichokes though! Also got the mud pie, which we would highly recommend. Too good we didn’t even get a picture of it!
Vegan friendly! My partner got a veggie pizza with plant-based cheese and because we shared the pizza I’ve got the kale salad - kale was salted, “massaged”, had a hint of lemon, I didn’t even use the avocado sauce that came with it (I also was not sure if it had mayo). They also had other options, I was debating where to get an eggplant panini (check out the attached pics). Very big space, efficient staff, cool ambiance in the woods! They have beers and cocktails/mocktails too!
Situated in a gorgeous location high in the hills. Cool motorcycles and exotic cars are always parked out front. The food is pretty good but the location and vibe is what makes this restaurant unique. You have to order at the counter and are given a buzzer. Feel free to choose any table inside or outside near the lake. Live music on the weekends. We tried the Banana French Toast, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Steak and Eggs, Buttermilk Pancakes and Breakfast Burrito.
For those unaware of this place, it is surely a hidden gem in the hills past Woodside. Coming from the Redwood City side, the scenic drive through the woods on a little windy road brings to this wonderful place. The menu has lot many options, and the servings size is generous. The staff is courteous. Be ready to order as they take the order at the hostess’s desk. There are menus placed on the boards as the line moves along. Place the order and find a table of your choice. Plenty of seating inside and outside. On a cold weather day, the heaters make sitting outside comfortable. Enjoy the tasty food and admire the nature. Definitely a place to come back, again and again.
Definitely one of my favorite places in the area. Great American diner in a wonderful location. If you like good food and nice cars you should definitely check it out! The drive up to skyline is scenic and breathtaking and you’ll get great food with good pricing as a reward! Highly recommended for breakfast, but it’s a very pleasant stop any time of the day.
Very pleasant and refreshing place. I travelled from NC to CA for a visit and during trip to mountains we visited this restaurant. It was chilly day and they had individual table heaters on making customers comfortable. Food was fresh and delicious. Dessert was absolutely perfect with big portion size! Enjoyed my spicy cocktail a lot. I would definitely want to go again for breakfast experience.
Came here last Thursday at about 4:30 with my dog and mother-in-law. We all had a great time. Came back again today at about 6:15. Much more crowded. Next time, we will arrive earlier. Ordered food and drink, claimed a picnic table, then listened to the Thursday live music offering. Food was ready in a reasonable amount of time, all things considered. Drinks (beer and margarita) ended up taking 30 more minutes. I stood waiting for half of that time, assured by the staff repeatedly that "they are making them". I could clearly see the bartender and he was definitely NOT making them. I was annoyed that I was being lied to so, after 30 minutes, I asked to speak to the manager. He came out just after the drinks finally arrived, apologized, and offered to comp the entire meal. I thought that was overly generous but I decided not to say anything. A few minutes later, he came out, apologized for the new bartender, and gave me a receipt showing that he had comp'ed meal. I would have been happy if he had just comp'ed the drinks. I decided that, at least, I owed him a good review of the restaurant. The food is consistently excellent (been here many times over the years), the bar offerings are extensive, the outdoor seeing is expansive, and the vibe is great. I highly recommend this place for families, couples, and dogs.
Alice's is more than anyone writes about. If there is a line, it moves quickly. The food is consistent and yummy. The salds are made with love.. not out of a bag. The service is amazing. There is an impressive team that walks around and makes sure you have everything you need. The bar is what makes Alice's a gem for me. Michelle and Sean are almost as accommodating as Andy. That's saying a lot.
After a lovely cruise through the mountains, we stumbled upon Alice's in Woodside, CA (near San Francisco), and let me tell you, it was an absolutely delightful. We were captivated by its picturesque mountainous setting. The stunning views provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. One of the unique aspects of Alice's is their ordering system. You place your order at the front counter, which adds a touch of efficiency to the process. As you wait for your food, you're given a buzzer that alerts you when your order is ready for pickup. It's a convenient system that ensures your food is served fresh and hot. Despite the self-service nature, the staff at Alice's goes above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. Throughout our visit, they would periodically check in to see if we needed anything, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel like a valued guest. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered the turkey melt and the jalapeno burger, and they were both phenomenal. The turkey melt was perfectly toasted, with a generous amount of flavorful turkey and melted cheese. The jalapeno burger, on the other hand, packed a delightful spicy kick that complemented the juicy, perfectly grilled patty. Each bite was a burst of deliciousness. I highly recommend Alice's to anyone looking for a delightful meal in a charming and scenic location, just outside the hustle and bustle of the city.
What a great little place! We stopped here after a morning of hiking. Very busy parking lots, lots of motorcycles and cars. Got in line and ordered our food. Super nice staff let us know where we could pick up our food and directed us to the sitting areas. Such a beautiful outdoor sitting area. Great employees who were very kind & polite and offered refills on our soda and jelly for our toast. Super attentive. We very much enjoyed our lunch and will be back!!
Wonderful discovery! If you like cars, you'll find a lot at this location. However the restaurant owner stresses the srive safety. Food is fantastic here, and nearly home cooked tasting. It's a different layout. Where you order at the front of the building, then get a buzzer card and eventually get your food. You pick where you want to sit. 1st come 1st serve.
The man in the front sent a group of 10 bikers back to the slammed patio bar. I was going to write a bad review then I met Michelle. My GF and I had just arrived to grab a table in the back with the help of Michelle. She was awesome! The whole patio and bar where slammed and the punk in the front sent 10 men to an already slammed patio instead of taking there order at the front, which seemed like the logical thing to do. Instead Michelle is by herself handling full patio of 8 10 tops and a full bar all by herself. I tried to help her bus a table for my girl and I but she wouldn't let me. It felt like chaos it was so slammed but Michelle had everything under control like a conductor of the SF symphony. We love bringing our dog on the weekend to Alices and Michelle was the highlight of our last trip.
Great spot after a hike for a casual lunch. Shared the enormous chef's salad and there was plenty for the two of us. Owner is very involved and stops by table to make sure all is well. I love the location with plenty of outside seating options.
They have a surprisingly delicious breakfast burrito that comes with your choice of meat (bacon, chorizo, ham), a generous amount of creamy scrambled eggs, and cheese. Comes with a side of potatoes, sour cream, salsa and guacamole. And all for a relatively reasonable price of $15. It could definitely use a touch more meat. A welcomed oasis on a long and winding drive (or a bike ride), Alice's is tucked in the middle of a dense forest where it's swaddled by redwood trees. There's also a little general store to grab some snacks, beverages and use the restroom. You come to Alice's for the vibes, not necessarily the food.
An iconic location. I used to drive my car up these roads to get a meal and a drink at Alice's when I was a kid. The food is very good. Excellent standard diner offerings with some very tasty dishes on offer as well. Get some fresh potato chips and a root beer. You won't be sorry. So good. Parking is tough, so be ready to circle for a little bit until space opens up.
Great place to do pit stop! The environment goes between the redwoods. The service and the food are outstanding. If you want to drive on twisty roads heading to the coast or the mountains, believe me, this is the right route. If you want to have a relaxed time here, I recommend to do it during the week days. Usually weekends are pretty busy (popular place).
Many stop here along their travels and some of us love Alice’s a destination. The people and relaxed and friendly. There’s always a healthy mix of young and old, big spenders and little spenders (if you catch my drift), and bikers and cyclists. The menu has something for everyone and it is quality cuisine. The drinks are beautiful served. I like that the menu changes with the seasons. The neighborhood is busy because Alice’s is a pit stop at a crossroads but it’s surrounded by majestic redwoods!! My personal experience with the staff is that they were super attentive and helpful when we explained our dietary restrictions; something other restaurants never seem to get right. Alice’s has live music in the evenings too but I have yet to experience it. I’m looking forward to it!
Incredible time! Huge line out front, but it moved super fast, so don’t get discouraged. Staff is very friendly. Food was quick to serve and very delicious to eat. Affordable for this area too — two meals, two sides, and a drink cost us $50. We got the Jalopy burger and a chicken pesto sandwich.
Title: A Tranquil Oasis of Culinary Excellence Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: Nestled amidst nature's beauty, this restaurant is a true hidden gem. The food is exceptional, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance is enchanting. Despite the occasional parking challenge, every moment spent here is worth it. I'm so impressed that I'm returning with my parents this week! Whether you're a local or a traveler, this place is a must-visit for an unforgettable dining experience. Kudos to the team for their consistent excellence – can't wait to be back!
A lovely restaurant with a beautiful backyard which has many seatings available, lovely view and a very lovely & cozy indoor as well. Beautiful place to enjoy the nature and have good food at. Food was delicious, service was awesome and they also treated my dog so well. They’re very dog friendly. Absolutely a gem up in the mountains. I’d love to come back more often!
Alice’s Restaurant is hands down one of the best brunch spots in the Bay Area! The drive alone is worth the trip, winding roads through towering redwoods make for a stunning, scenic ride. Food-wise, this place is true value for money. We got the steak and eggs, plus a stack of huge blueberry pancakes, and everything was cooked to perfection. The pancakes even come with a delicious homemade blueberry sauce that takes them over the top. The atmosphere is super laid-back, exactly what you’d want from a cozy mountain eatery. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially on a Saturday, but honestly it’s not too long, and it’s absolutely worth it.
We planned to stop here for a Saturday brunch, before driving the 9 freeway (9burgring?) afterward towards Santa Cruz. We were well treated, the food was good, it was fast, the location was perfect (especially are car or motorcycle lovers). The food was good, and the staff was entirely helpful and not pompous. Definitely will come back. For people who like to look and listen to rare cars, this place is a gem!
People don’t just come here for the food — they come for the culture. The parking lot alone is a show. You’ll see some seriously fancy cars and motorbikes lined up like an unofficial exhibition. Somehow this rustic old farmhouse has become a gathering spot for car lovers, and it adds to the whole experience. The space itself is full of old-world charm — huge dining areas spread around the wooden house and spacious outdoor area in multiple “tents”. I personally love that worn, wooden, cozy vibe. Food-wise, it’s classic American comfort done right. Everything tastes fresh and authentically made with care. My tuna melt was toasted perfectly golden brown on the outside and generously filled inside — simple but amazing. Bonus: it’s dog-friendly, so our dog babies can join too. Definitely a place you go for the full experience.
Vibes are amazing. Great for a Sunday brunch in a warm sunny day. Lots of fancy cars. Didn’t quite enjoy the Biscuits and gravy. Veggie omelet was good.
You can be anyone you want at Alice’s Restaurant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Live music was fantastic! Very comfortable! We will be back for sure.
Great spot for Breakfast my friend and I had the Corned beef hash and eggs! Everything was delicious the service was very good as well and fast - we had the drinks on the table before we sat down. All in all it was a pleasant breakfast experience in a beautiful setting and a very convenient and scenic location.
This has become my absolute favorite restaurant to dine at during rainy/stormy weather. There's just something about outdoor dining surrounded by redwoods while rain pours down around you as you enjoy a meal under shelter with firepits and heaters still keeping you warm. I used to eat here semi regularly when I lived closer, but have since moved. Today our family drove an hour to relive the experience for old times and we were not disappointed. The place had changed a bit from last time we were here. But we still enjoyed our food. My kids ordered some custom things and the staff was very accommodating to everything. Food was made and brought to our table quickly, and they kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. This place is still as good as I remembered and the rain made it all the more enjoyable!
If you’re a car guy/gal, this is the place to be, it’s that simple. The food is simple diner food, nothing crazy but hits all the right spots. The pancakes was amazing. The crowd can be busy but they manage it quite well. Ordering is simple and efficient and food comes out in a little under 10 mins for me. The car scene, that’s what you come here for and it’s very nice. Overall, if you’re in the area, swing by, enjoy the drive up and down. Spot some nice cars and have a good meal.
An absolutely fabulous and beautiful restaurant literally in the middle of the forest (and the middle of nowhere.) The menu is extensive and the food is well prepared and tastes great. All served by possibly the friendliest staff in any food joint. Despite being out of the way and the long drive to get there, this place is worth every mile driven to reach it. Sometimes, the ones who take the road less traveled, are handsomely rewarded.
Very popular spot and parking can be tricky. You wait in line at the curb to order and are seated afterwards. Inside and outside seating is first come first served. Everything I’ve tried here is great. Dog friendly as well so a perfect spot to stop by when on the way to the trails or beach.
This was a diamond in a rough. It is directly across from Mountain Terrace. It is off of skyline Boulevard a bit tucked away but a beautiful Location wonderful service. We had a large party of 15. We sat towards the back of the restaurant in the outside, where they had plenty of heaters to keep us warm such a find Establishment. I note Mountain Terrace because that is where my daughter is getting married on Sunday so we had our rehearsal on Friday and we walked across the street got in line order our food and sat down and one by one with the electronic pager we picked up our drinks in our food. This place went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed from my Waco Burger to a salad to excellent Keylime pie. The beverages were fantastic as well. One person had a paper airplane that I never heard of, but it was excellent. There is plenty of seating all around and plenty of people to make sure you’re happy. They even had a donation drive for the local elementary school by selling pumpkins.
Alice’s Restaurant in Woodside is where burgers, bands, and families all find their groove. One minute you’re biting into a juicy burger, the next you’re tapping your foot to an Americana band that makes you feel like you accidentally wandered into a backyard concert. The vibe is equal parts small-town charm and road-trip cool, the kind of place where a Harley and a minivan look equally at home in the parking lot. I enjoyed both the calamari and the cheeseburger, each prepared with equal care and flavor. Paired with a crisp Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, it made for a thoroughly satisfying meal. In short: great music, great food, great people.
A local favorite mountain top escape, with a laid-back 1960s vibe, Alice‘s Restaurant satisfies customers on many levels. Breakfast and lunch menu from opening until 5 PM when the dinner menu kicks in. Enjoy a meal in the Santa Cruz mountains with redwoods towering overhead and a cute little pond next-door. Tons of outdoor and covered seating. Gas heaters upon request or when it’s cold. More limited amount of seating fully indoors. There’s also a little gas station next to the restaurant.
Alice’s Restaurant is an awesome spot! The food is great, the service is always friendly, and the place itself has lots of cool things to check out inside if you get a table there. Sitting out back is also awesome — there are tons of benches and it’s really pretty out there. On top of that, you’ll see plenty of cool sports cars and motorcycles while you’re there. I recommend going during the week if you can, because it gets really busy on the weekends. Definitely worth checking out!
Every trip to SFO requires a stop at this fabulous restaurant. The whole family loves the pies and chill ambiance. We usually just sit in the back with amazing views of a creek and the hills. Even the bathrooms are well maintained and clean even though its a very busy place. We had 3 different pies with Vanilla ice cream. Boysenberry was by far the best. Next was Apple Pie and then Chocolate Pecan Pie. Mudd Pie was so good we brought one home to NJ! Don't forget to hangout and watch some really nice cars and bikes.
Hands down one of our fave mountain spots to grab breakfast after a solid ride on the bike. We always love coming back here—the owner’s super chill and welcoming, and the staff is really friendly too. The food’s bomb, big portions, total homemade vibes. Prices are fair, and honestly, nothing beats having breakfast outside surrounded by nature. It’s a must-stop every time we hit the road on the motorcycle.

I wish I could give this 5 stars as it’s such a staple with a cult following and fine cars. However, the food was underwhelming - the pancakes were tasteless, the BBQ brisket chewy and the Eggs Benedict on a dated muffin. The omelette was a pleasant surprise and I’d go with that next time. Overall, worth it for the experience, the cars and the drive, just mind the food. Tip: come at around 10am on Sunday morning to avoid the crowds and get a glimpse of the spectacular cars and motorbikes.
Came here with a group of four and it was nice since there was so much seating! It's fun since so many people come with motorcycles and fancy cars so it's an interesting crowd. Good: - I liked the potato egg benedict here since it came with potato cakes and that was so unique! - The Irish coffee here was also pretty good - The seating inside is great for catching up with friends in a cabin-like setting Bad: - Food took a while to come out so we waited a while - Long lines just to place the order Overall this place was a solid find, and an interesting culture to experience!
Alice's is always so fun! In the middle of nowhere, nestled in the cocoon of nature, a perfect place to pause, sit down with family and friends and enjoy a delicious meal, before you hit the road again! Very decent food, drinks, great staff and overall vibe! We really enjoy coming here for a brunch on the weekends!
Great escape from the sudden rain! ☔ Cozy, classic American diner vibes — warm, hearty food and friendly service. Definitely an iconic spot worth stopping by if you’re driving through the hills. 🍔🥧
Great place, good food and drinks. Don't let the line scare you out front. You order there, then go find a table. It goes quick. Weekends guarantee cool cars and bikes in the lot. Try it out.
Weathered the Pineapple Express to try out my namesake restaurant & apparently others had the same idea, since it was crowded. But there was plenty of seating with patio heaters & we were able to stay dry. My steak sandwich came with chips but also ordered sweet potato fries & onion rings to share with others in my party. The steak was medium rare, just the way I ordered it & was quite hefty; more of a steak plate vs a steak sandwich. A very filling lunch & it was nice to get away from the city & be in the redwoods.
We went here for brunch and the wait was about 40 minutes. Once our order was taken the food was ready very quickly and it was delicious. The drive to the restaurant is also beautiful and it is a hub for motorists, we saw a good number of fancy cars and a fleet of motorbikes (i am not sure if they come to Alice’s or some other stores nearby). Highly recommend.
Alice's is such a popular place, so I won't go here on the weekends. I had a Monday off, so I decided to take a ride up for lunch. The food here is great and just a cool place. They've done a great job with adding outdoor dining options. This time I ordered the Turkey California Club sandwich. But I substituted the sourdough for ciabatta bread. Yummy! This time I forgot to order fries, but I highly recommend them.
Pros- Quaint and relaxing atmosphere Ample parking Reasonably priced Excellent service You can put steak on your salad Steak is good Wheelchair access via ramp and elevator Clean bathrooms Cons -Portions are smaller but some people may enjoy that -There is ample parking but I can see it easily getting overrun on the weekends - The bathrooms are in a different building behind the gas station and are VERY cold inside
Great place in the middle of Redwoods. This place is popular with bikers who like to ride the twisty roads in the area. Recently it has gotten kinda popular and particularly on the weekends, you can find hikers, Sunday drivers and tourists alike, queued up for grubs, be prepared for a long wait! Food is generally above par, a decent collection of beverages as well. It is self-service, you order/pay at the front and collect the food when the buzzer goes off. Staff is nice and friendly. The key is the atmosphere, super awesome, among the Redwoods! People generally are in festive mood and the place has a great vibe. Great place to linger over a pint!
Alice’s Restaurant is a classic Bay Area stop that lives up to the hype. The panini sandwiches are delicious, hearty, and made with quality ingredients, and the homemade potato chips are next level crispy, fresh, and addictive. Simple food done really well in a setting that feels iconic. On weekends, the car scene is wild expect everything from vintage builds to insane supercars rolling through nonstop, which makes it a fun place to hang out even before the food hits the table. That said, it does get super busy, so plan accordingly and bring a little patience. Great food, great energy, and a must-visit spot if you’re driving through Woodside or just want to soak in the scene.
Very cute breakfast spot. It sits on the cross road, and popular hangout spot in the morning. Friendly waiter, decent food. We got the corned beef hash, and potato pancake benedict. Good flavor, and came out quite quickly. They had space heater cranked up, so the outdoor seating was nicely warm.
Had lunch today. Food was good prices are fair and service was fast. Your order outside and then come back to collect your meal so no table service. Setting is really nice with heated patio or outside lawn. The portions are generous I had the calamari which was served with jalapeño which I like. The fish and chips was good. And my friend got the brisket sandwich which he liked. I really liked that the potato chips were homemade.
Went here for the first time over the summer ('19) and it was easily a favorite. The drive up from Palo Alto is beautiful and winding. Service was super friendly and warm, and the food was delicious. My partner and his friends love this place and I can absolutely see why. I've been here now a total of two times, the first time with just me and my boyfriend, and the second with all of his friends which made us a group of 7. Both visits we had 0 wait time, and had our own table. Food took maybe only 10-15 minutes to arrive after ordering so that was pleasant. There's outdoor seating for good weather as well, which is nice, and if it's bad weather and the inside is full, you could still sit outside as they have heated lamps on the tables. Anyway, definitely a new favorite, and it's a fun trek to make, with a lovely brunch/lunch waiting at the end for you. I do recommend checking them out!
We went there a few minutes before closing time. The staff was very polite, took our order and we found a nice table inside. By the time our food arrived, the restaurant had stopped taking new customers but they were very polite about it. The service was excellent. Very friendly. The food was also very good but not extraordinary. Hence 4 stars They have very nice outdoor seating as well. It was just too hot for us though We had the grilled fish (local cod) sandwich. The sandwich was good. Large portions. It came with chips. Their salad was good too. The balsamic vinaigrette dressing was a bit sharp. The restrooms seemed clean but were smelly (could be due to the heat)
My wife and I stopped at Alice’s for breakfast. It has been a long time dream of mine because of the beautiful location. It did not disappoint. We ordered at the entrance and sat at rustic picnic tables among the trees. The crowd was eclectic, kind and respectful. Children laughed and played on the grounds. I had the French toast with eggs and bacon. All was perfectly cooked. My wife had the artichoke soup made with coconut milk and a breakfast burrito. The soup was smooth, creamy, and flavorful. The burrito was huge and was served with red and green sauce. Overall, it is worth the drive for price, taste , and ambience.
Self serve, everything clean, food was ready fast. One thing I noticed was that the raw onion tasted like it was cut on a clean cutting board and knife. Often at restaurants the salad will taste like just a hint of fish like they didn't completely follow a separation of cutting boards in the kitchen, but Alice's had very clean tasting onions. Sandwich was tasty but .... It was shit "Texas style BBQ brisket". So instead of 5/5 more like a 4.5/5 place, wouldn't mind going again. The meat was tough and cut across the grain. Instead of slices it was strips more like very thick sailor's rope. It came with a small stash of potato chips that seemed like they were cut and dried in house which was excellent and you can tell they were good fresh potatoes.... Some other restaurants of the same price point have certainly served me potato fries with some molded ends. Small plastic container of cole slaw was very decent. I heard the burger and the kale salad was good from my friends. Their vegetarian meat burger was beyond rather than impossible and imo that's the worse option.
Drove up due to recommendation from a colleague. Basically opened the place up which is fine in my opinion. The setup is a little different here whereas you order your food as you enter and then find a seat. Check their menu online to get a leg up before you get there. I chose their Veggie Omelette which I felt was tasty enough. Add in coffee and toast to round out breakfast. You need to serve yourself water but everything else is brought to the table. Parking is easy enough but I see it becoming a challenge if they are busy or traffic is dumb. Pricing is a little steep so make sure your wallet is ready.
Pretty good diner food, the paninis were great, and the garlic fries were really yummy! The interior was very cute and homey, with lots of seating indoors and outdoors (heating lamps everywhere!!). The staff was so incredibly nice, very helpful and quick. Prices are a bit high but not unreasonable, and the location is great, easy place to stop in the woods.
We went for a hike and decided to finally stop in for lunch at this cute, in-the-midst of mountain, largely outdoor eatery. The people there were largely hikers but also friends meeting up for a catch-up lunch in a "different" place as well as couples looking for an al fresco lunch date. You place your order and then find a place to sit and place your pager on the top of the table ID and they bring your food to you. We shared a pizza and sandwich. Food was okay. The service was friendly but the staffing is slim so it's pretty much self-service is okay. We were just excited to eat so close to where we hiked without feeling self-conscious about our appearance and state of cleanliness.
Casual place, you order outside then are given a buzzer and seat yourself. Most tables are outdoors but there are a lot of heaters so it's not too cold. The staff are very friendly and provided excellent service. Vegan options include burgers (black bean, beyond) and pizza (they have vegan cheese). Could also veganize the salads and add a burger patty. Got the black bean burger which was fine, not house made. Came with a lot of lettuce/onion/tomato. The housemade chips were delicious. Mushroom pizza with vegan cheese was very good, love that they added so many mushrooms. Also got the garlic and herb fries which were good, but did not have much garlic and herb topping. Overall would recommend this place given limited options in the area, and the scenery is great. Good place to stop after a hike.
I got the stake and eggs. I ordered the stake medium rare and I got it a perfect medium rare, eggs were great sunny side, potatoes were hot and fluffy, and bread 👍. My friend got one of the omelet and according to her it had little to no seasoning, though she really enjoyed the potatoes. Atmosphere was great with indoor, patio, and outdoor seating. If you choose patio seating you'll never be cold with the propane heaters they provide. They also have a gas station if you're ever running low, and it's inexpensive. Service was quick, polite, and Bilingual (English, Spanish). Overall great experience, worth the 2 hour drive.
We visited for brunch on a Saturday around 10:40am. Parking in the area can be challenging as many motorcycles and fancy old cars are often parked nearby. We were able to park in a gravel pullout on CA 84 just before the intersection and gas station. The line outside looked long, but luckily it moved fast (about a 10 min wait) as you order at the front and then find seating. There was an outdoor patio and plenty of picnic table and regular table seating in the back. We ordered coffee, a mimosa, and 2 potato benedicts. You're given a buzzer to know when your food and drinks are ready and everything is self serve so you need to pick it up by the kitchen. Drinks were ready almost immediately, and the food was ready in about 12 mins. The potato benedict had a good flavor, but I thought the portion size was a little small for the price and was not a fan of the excessive green onions throughout. A lot of tables nearby had breakfast burritos, and I was getting a little food envy seeing them. Great atmosphere being among the Redwood trees.

Loud motorcycles and drag racing on the street out front very unsafe , To loud to sit outside and not enough room inside And it self serve pay first and pick up when ready
I love this place nestle in the hills above the Bay Area, including the 35 minute drive from the SFO airport hotels. It's popular. Even on a Friday lunch hour, parking spots were at a premium. It…
Great place to get a breakfast. Prices were very high for the size of the portions. Not much parking but if you wait around long enough someone will leave.

This a well known restaurant in the area that attract families bicycle team a motor fanatics. It’s a diner style place with good service and pretty good food too. A plus for the beer selection from…
Charming restaurant with lots of outdoor seating. They have a broad menu. I had the huevos rancheros and my brother had the 1/2 rack of ribs, and we both enjoyed our meals.
Incredible location in La Honda at the intersection of major forest roads. Great stop as you’re traversing the hills. Open air seating with benches under the tree canopy. Old timey gas station that works! 5/5 for atmosphere. Place is a must visit. Can’t share the same pride about the food. Ordered a pulled pork on ciabatta. $18. +$1 for pepperjack. Cool. Kind and friendly staff, but they have a buzzer system so you have to get your own food. NBD but I don’t really like. This isn’t fast food. The place isn’t very big. All is forgivable if the food was great. It wasn’t. The pulled pork lacked flavor. As if it were made by someone who didn’t own seasonings. It was also dry. There was some sauce hastily added on top. Completely underwhelming. They don’t serve the sandwich assembled. They give all the ingredients in cups so you can spend your own time piecing it together. The sauce seemed store bought. Which would be ok if they bought a good one. Coleslaw was fresh. Ciabatta bun itself was excellent. The homemade potato chips were great, too. They cheese was fine but I wished it had melted more. Felt lazily done. I’ve had pulled pork in Texas. It’s incredible. In the Bay Area, Smoking Pig is decent. The best I’ve had in these parts is the smokehouse on Meta’s Menlo Park campus. The Ritz in Tahoe has incredible pulled pork as well. Will come back here to try other things. But this isn’t a meal I’d recommend to other people.
I cannot give this place more than 3 star. We have been at this place many times, and will probably be back! But there are few things that could be improved. The ladies room needs some attention. The tables could be cleaner. The burger is really good, but I’m not the biggest fan of the Benedict and definitely not a fan of their Bloody Caesar. This is restaurant is located in such a beautiful place, and has so much potential.
For the price, I didn't think the taste of the food was up to par. The burger was under seasoned,. So the farmer's burger was really underwhelming and did no service to the farmer who reared the cow. Ribs were good compared to the burger but very average compared to what you can get elsewhere. Salad dressing was not to my taste, but that's a personal thing. Atmosphere is great, but I think that's the only thing going for this place. Skip it unless you really choose atmosphere over food taste.
So this food spot is on hwy 35 and is a good pitstop for after a hike. They have amazing heating indoors which makes it enjoyable. The coffee was good, the hot chocolate was not it was missing flavor and wasn’t sweet and looked like it was water with something it and whipped cream on top. The French toast was good and salted butter came along with it. The vegetable omelette wasn’t that good, too many mushrooms. And the potatoes were a lot so that was generous of them. I forgot to try the pancakes but if French toast was good that would probably be good. Pineapple juice was good as well. It’s an ok spot and there’s a line usually and lot of nice cars parked here as well. Also it’s very pricey place as well Would go elsewhere for bfast though next time after a hike
I had heard alot about this place and was excited to try it. It was decidedly average. Pros: beautiful location in the redwoods, good quality food, excellent service Cons: the food was overpriced. Breakfast for 4 was $130. The building is very basic- uncomfortable chairs and uneven tables. Now that I have been, I don’t see the big deal.
The vibe is so cool and the location is breathtaking. Feels like you're transported to the 1970s chill hangouts. Parking was pretty tight since it's pretty popular stopping spot. Staff was nice but they are very very short staffed so we spent a ton of time waiting and missing things. No fault of the staff we could see them rushing around trying to keep up. Just too many customers for the number of employees. We had a party of 3. Had the Parmesan fries as an appetizer. They were very good. We had the blackbean burger which was ok. The jalopy burger is overly sweet in my opinion. The children's grilled cheese was not a hit but might be for some kids. The side of veggies are steamed not raw. While I wasn't amazed by the meal I would go again the location is great and the staff is friendly
Classic roadside stop. Standard American fare, nothing fancy - burgers, fries, the usual. Food is pretty basic, but that’s not really why you come. The real draw is the cars and the vibe. On a good day the parking lot turns into an impromptu car show with bikes and sports cars rolling through the mountains. Grab a quick bite, enjoy the scene, and soak in the Skyline drive atmosphere.
Drinks only - Location and service is great, but the food is bad. Good Beer selection on tap, Trumer is my current favorite but there’s more. Portions are large but it just doesn’t have the same high quality food as Alpine Inn, which is not too far down the road. Thai chilli chicken Pizza came in a box and was doughy (ick) so you didn’t want any more after 1 slice…. you get the idea
Worst burgers we ever had. They say that the beef is never frozen and all natural - it was the driest (non juicy) burger I ever had (I ordered the Le Mans burger Medium) - not one little shred …
Gross food, one of the worst burgers I’ve had, completely tasteless and almost $20. Server was petting a cat on the porch and then serving food. Location is the only thing going for them.

Tucked away amidst the winding roads of Woodside, Alice's Restaurant isn't just a dot on the map; it's a local institution. Driving out here, deep in the woods, you might naturally wonder what kind of culinary magic could happen so far off the beaten path.
