favorite sushi place in the neighborhood! i love the crunch they put in the spicy tuna roll. also they have amazing lunch deals on the weekdays
Great lunch menu options. We were visiting NYC and looking for place to eat in Sunnyside and found this place by chance. So glad we did. Great food. Friendly service. Definitely plan to visit again next time visiting NYC.
Had a family gathering for Thanksgiving night. It was not the first time I have visited the place. The sushi was clean, tasty, and fresh. The service was decent and attentative. The restaurant is not big and very consumer-friendly. A very charming restaurant to recommend to my friends for different occasions.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.. I’ve told a couple of friends of mines who are from Canada that are very picky about their seafood and when I told them about this place.. that’s the first thing they want when they come to New York.. i always celebrate all my three kids and grandsons birthday there because they also love it.. ask for Paul when u-go he’s the best and tell them Noah’s grandfather.. enjoy😋😋
This is a cozy place to have sushi. There was a wait to be seated because it is small. The food is tasty and presented beautifully. The Yom Kha soup was the best I've ever tasted. We got the Snow Beauty saki which I didn't have high hopes for but was delicious! Kind of like a boozy rice pudding.
If you're looking for delicious sushi in a charming atmosphere, look no further. TJ Asian Bistro has a really lovely ambience, friendly staff, and some of the best sushi around. My only complaint is that the wait for the food was quite long. However, the wait proved to be worthwhile as I have found my favorite sushi spot in Sunnyside.
I never order California roll from anywhere because it’s so basic and the taste is meh, but I ALWAYS order it from here! I also love their spicy crab rolls. It’s just so fresh and stuffed. Other sushi restaurants don’t give that much fish or avocado inside. Another thing I always have to order is the Rock Shrimp appetizer. It comes with lettuce and cherry tomatoes. My friends who detest shrimp even eat it!! The sauce they use is incredible and the entire dish is light and delicious. The man at the front is also very friendly and I love the ambiance too. Actually, thinking about the food here is making me want it right now so I’m going to order it for lunch today 😋
Best sushi place in NYC. Used to order from here when in the area and moved out of state and still stop by here. Amazing food and service with reasonable prices. Love the lunch special and the generous portions. Con: place is small and there’s a wait during busy dinner service for dine-in.
As delicious, cozy, classy and friendly as I remember. A jewel of Sunnyside. - 5/30/2024 review Great sushi, fun menu and great atmosphere. I come here once a month (minimum). - 6 years ago review
I absolutely adore this place! The staff consistently showcases kindness and attentiveness. The culinary offerings are exceptional, and every dish I've tried has been delectably satisfying.
My wife's and my favorite sushi place! Their website is super easy to order from and delivery is fast. The highest quality sushi in the area by far. Their spicy rolls are especially impressive, not overly orange like most places. Favorites are their cold apps, hannah naruto, and hidden mango roll. Skip the hibachi. Their other hot food is better.
One of the best sushi restaurants I ever went in my life, the food is 💯 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 so fresh m, every bite is a punch of exotic flavors. We will definitely come back!
I've been dining here for years and they never disappoint! Sushi rolls are delicious and their Kani salad is my favorite. They have indoor dining as well as a few tables outdoors. I have tried many different rolls here and they're all so fresh and delicious. The miso soup and avocado bomb are also great!
My husband and I love going here! The food is great no matter what you get and the service is very good. Never disappointed! Only downside is parking. Parking in the area sucks big time! You have to really search for a spot before finding one but it's worth it!
Their tempura was so yummy. Their sushi was good. Their fried rice had a flavor similar to my childhood. I wish i had a larger table. Best avocado salad i ever had in my life.
We went to TJ Asian Bistro for dinner, it was my first time recommended by my daughter . Services were friendly but professional. Atmosphere was very pleasant and clean. We asked about their special of the day and they had the Kumamotos oysters; these oysters were the freshest, plumpest I ever had! We also ordered a variety of other rolls, tempuras and a soup noodle; they were all delicious. The prices were reasonable. We will surely return and make this place as one of my go-to restaurants.
My go-to when I'm looking for Japanese takeout in the neighborhood - they have great lunch specials! I've also dined in for both lunch and dinner, and the service is great as well. Highly recommend!
Best lunch bento box around!! Delicious and comes with both my side favorites, soup plus a salad. Not heavy on the sauce/salt. They accommodate and put the teriyaki on the side. Staff are nice. I come here almost every week or two for take out! Thanks TJ
Best sushi place in Queens. This goes from the tasteful ambiance to the unique menu; they offer more than the just the typical rolls. They also have a nice selection of traditional Japanese Saké and beers. It a great place for a nice meal.
Oh. My. Lord. This place is honestly the best restaurant I have EVER been to in my whole entire life of exploring many various places. First of all, I would like to say that the service is outstanding. The waiters are so immensely friendly and kind, and will smile from the second you walk in. The food is so delicious and savory that my taste buds burst from delight every time I come here. Amazing job, TJ Asian Bistro.
First time trying it today and OMG! The best and freshest sushi I have ever eaten. Def worth trying. My personal recommendation would be the spicy combo and the crunchy lobster roll will not regret it!
Love TJ! One of our fav lunch spots. Good food and good value 👍👍
I love this place, every dish is fresh and amazing, staffers are friendly, place is always clean. To the owners....are you reopening? My husband and I miss eating here. Once you open we will be ordering multiple times a week! Please open!!! Today May 17th I saw this place opened and I am very excited!!!! Thank you for reopening!!
This is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant. The staff knows your name, the food is always good, and patrons are relaxed and there for a healthy meal and quiet conversation. You can probably tell I'm a steady customer. Enjoy!
Excellent local Asian fusion restaurant with a great menu and very friendly staff. I've been here a handful of times and they recognize and know me quite well! The chefs always do a great job with the sushi dishes creating cool designs with the sauce and the empty space on the places. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for some sushi or other Asian food.
I absolutely love coming here. The sushi and rolls are always great and fresh, the teriyaki is great, the rice is cooked perfectly, and the chicken udon soup on a cold rainy day is just the thing you never knew you needed. The staff is friendly and always there to answer any questions you might have.
Breath taking! My fav sushi spot to date, and that's saying a lot because I am a Japanese/sushi connoisseur. The service was very friendly and accommodating, very fresh sushi, beef gyoza, tuna tartar, miso soup finished off by the delectable red bean fried ice cream. I have the food delivered all the time and am equally as happy with eating in. The ambience is very cozy and intimate.
The food and staff here are top tier! Im so lucky to have this place within walking distance. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. The staff is kind and accommodating. The kitchen food is nothing to sleep on either. If you are unsure of what to get don't worry, whatever you order will hit the spot!
💚Loved the Sushi,( the freshest ever)🍣🍣🍣🍥, Beef Gyoza, Miso Soup, Fried red bean ice cream.!!! Was there this past Saturday & highly recommend this restaurant!! Great Vibes Customer Service🐍💚
A friend and I met here for lunch and had a great time. We found street parking with no issues. However, I could see parking being an issue during busy hours. The staff were amazing, very attentive, and welcoming. I was shocked at how busy it was around 1:30pm, which was a good sign that the food was good. They have an extensive Asian/sushi menu, including a separate lunch special menu. We both ordered the lunch special that included a soup, small salad and option of meat, rice, and a sushi/California roll. I don't eat seafood, so I ordered the cucumber roll, and my friend had the avocado roll. This was my first time eating three cucumber rolls, and surprisingly, it was tasty. I enjoyed my entire meal, and it was fulfilling. I was able to take a small to go bag of my rice and teriyaki chicken. My friend ate all of hers and we were both satisfied with our meal and the service. We both enjoyed our refills of the hot tea throughout our meal, and you had the option of water as well. This is definitely a cool spot to check out, and I would definitely return to check out some other menu items.
This is my favorite sushi place for years… PRO and Honest Review: Food is always fresh and of awesome quality. Waiters are always attentive and quick. Cleanliness and smell is top-notch. Bathrooms are stocked and well taken care of. Prices are reasonable. No complaints here: I definitely recommend this spot. 5 STAR Well-earned!!
We often order from here for delivery because they are mindful of allergies. We came in for my daughter‘s birthday with a number of teenagers and they were amazing, helpful, friendly, and the food was great. Really glad that TJs is a part of the neighborhood.
Very affordable, timely, and delicious take out. They care about their customers. The sushi platter was generous with their portions.
I have eaten in Asian Bistros from Boston down to Florida. T.J's is the best
One of the best Japanese restaurants in all of New York City. It's worth the trip to Queens to experience this culinary delight.
Always fresh! This place has the best fresh fish, amazing house special rolls and quality sake. I’ve been dining here for four years, and always satisfied with the food and smiley faces.
The food is so delicious! And excellent customer service, very much my go to spot!!!
I love it here small and cozy. Didn't have a wait got served quickly. Food was delicious. Over all I had a great time. The price was not bad at all.
The best sushi , I love the green monster roll 😋
It's a nice friendly neighborhood restaurant and they offer good prices for their food. Not only can you sit in they also do free delivery (if you live nearby). I love their house special friend rice that has a mix of everything. Their shrimp tempura could be fattier but they still come out crispy. Their Udon noodles is my favorite too. They have restaurant s throughout the borough and if you happen to have one in your neighborhood definitely check this place out. They don't disappoint.
My favorite place to grab sushi. I bring all of my friend and family here. It’s always so fresh. Thank you.
Great first date place. Venue is clean and has a romantic feel with red roses and dimmed lighting. The have a wide range of wines and even bring the white chilled next to your table. Food was great, but the presentation was outstanding. Ordered, hidden mango, fried tuna, and a few other dishes.
As always on a late lunch date with my husband on a Friday evening! We unexpectedly stopped by to enjoy some sushi. We decided to dine in since the weather was cold and no other person was inside either. I have to say the host was very warm and welcoming to us. He made us feel very comfortable and took every possible measure to maintain 6ft distance from us when taking our order and serving our meals. We ordered a soft crab shell which was a great starter because we were hungry. We shared this hot appetizer amongst us two. Then came our 2 special rolls, which were the “Amazing Roll” and the second one was “Special Kaye Roll”! Both were freshly made and the taste was to its perfection. We enjoyed these rolls with eel sauce! My husband enjoyed sparkling water and I enjoyed their Japanese home made tea. The tea was nicely hot and went perfect with our sushi rolls. I am a tea lover and rarely enjoy outside home teas but their tea was really great in taste.no desserts for us. We were full with all this food. A must go SUSHI SPOT FOR ANY ONE LOOKING TO enjoy A QUIET PLACE WITH GREAT TASTE AND FRESHLY MADE 🍣 sushi!
Best sushi spot in Queens area. Been living in Sunnyside for the past 6years and i come here pretty often. It is a small place indeed, but very personable and intimate. Large menu with great variety of rolls, soups, appetizers, small bites. Lunch and dinner served over there. Everything is fresh all the time.Service is quite fast, the staff can be a bit pushy sometimes- but overall great experience. Among my fav: Kani salad, Tom Kha soup, Dragon rolls, Hidden Mango Rolls, the spring rolls. Trying something new each time. Truly love it!
This place is like my second home! Me and my hubby love it! Every time we go we discover a new addiction! The service is soooo nice and they are so warming and welcoming !! I’m never let down by the chefs!!! I love love their miso soup and the bento box is my TOPP pick!! With the specialty rolls! Nothing can beat it! The place is a small to medium size and they have a sushi bar which I haven’t tired but it looks super cool! This restaurant is also lightly lit, it puts romance in the air and makes your dinner feel nice and cozy!
I was in the mood for Sunday night sushi at home and my usual fav sushi place was closed so I went with TJ Asian Bistro based on reviews and I was not disappointed with the sushi rolls I got for me and the family (also this was a delivery order)and we waited about an hour. Both spicy crab and shrimp tempura were fresh, tasty & delicious, the shrimp gyoza order was also of our liking & I feel the prices are affordable, I would like to try other dishes in the menu in the future.
I am a person who loves Asian food, I eat sushi at least once a week and when I moved to this neighborhood and saw the reviews of this restaurant I knew I had to try it. I ordered the avocado bomb to start and as a main course I ordered two maki rolls, the electric roll and the kamikaze roll, I was speechless, it was so delicious that I finished everything in less than 5 minutes. It is my new favorite restaurant for dinner and for ordering deliveries.
One of the great sushi restaurants in Queens. Very intimate setting a few 2-tops tucked away, perfect for a dinner for two. When I used to live here I would order 2 -3 times per week, its that good. Their food is delicious and most importantly fresh sushi. Service is great all the time.
Excellent food and reasonably priced. Helpful and friendly staff. We got there late and they didn’t rush us out the door but instead told us to take our time and enjoy our meal - which we enjoyed thoroughly!
Great place for a quick and tasty meal that's easy on the wallet. Can't beat their pricing. Staff are helpful and quite friendly. Taking off one star because they serve food with plasticware and plastic plates. I understand it could be due to the COVID pandemic but it takes away from a "restaurant" dinner experience.
Decor and ambience inside is nice. Service was just right. Easy to ask waiter or waitress for something when they pass by. Food came out very quickly, maybe TOO fast like Chinese takeout. Great presentation of food on the plate. Best avocado roll I've ever tasted in my life. Come here for the sushi.
Food was very good especially the lunch special. Service was good. Place is neat and clean. Lunch price is fair, $8.00 for two rolls or $11.00 for three rolls. Both with choice of salad or soup.
Continues to be a tasty and affordable experience, and their rice gam ehas stablized nicely so we've had only good experiences. Friendly staff, too!
Great service, good for accommodating large groups too. Menu has a variety of different foods. Everything was pretty standard, just your typical sushi.
Well the sushi and sashimi are great love it, it feels fresh and original, but other dishes look just plain. The service was great but the ambient looks simple. Yet still I will recommend it because I went for the sushi and it wasn't disappointing
I like this place a lot, I usually come here for the lunch special. It’s consistently good. For 13$ you get a miso ginger salad, soup, dumplings, a California roll, rice an entree, all in a cool clean and relaxed environment. This is one of the better neighborhood spots, Sunnyside has great food. TJ Asian Bistro is great for a quick and tasty lunch.
Sushi in Sunnyside Gardens After trying a few places in Queens these past 8 months, I found a little gem TJ Asian - 50th & Skillman In case you didn’t notice lol I loveee Salmon ! It was very fresh. Miso soup came with my salmon platter, even on a hot summer day I still enjoed… I LOVE Agedashi dōfu, it was perfectly made and paired with a not to salty sauce. Dessert was also delicious, I had the fried banana with red bean ice cream.. THE POUR - PLUM WINE The only issue I had was my waitress for got me . I had to ask other wait staff for water, dessert and my bill and never asked if I wanted anything else.
Place still good. But have to admit, it was better 2 , 3 years ago... seafood quality not the same. They keep salads and soups ready. Taste is different. Avocado rolls for example lose the freshness. Most of restaurants have decreased taste and quality
I'll start out with: the service and prices here are really good! I'm also just rather particular about the food I got here. My friend was fully satisfied with the food she got (dinner bento box) while I was more like "ehhh it's ok." I personally got the ceviche and sashimi 15 piece. There was very little flavor to fish of the sashimi and it was hard for me to finish because it was just bland. The ceviche was okay, no such reaction. It just felt a little lackluster, but if I went back I would probably get it again. They also put way too much dressing on the salads.
I love this place and the food however we order this time for delivery because we are sick and the delivery driver got super upset I didn't write a tip on the bill (cos it wasn't my card, someone order for us). my sister was looking for cash while I got the food but thank god she didn't come out right away cos this guy was so rude about it, told me it was so far way ( literary 15mins away walking) but he was on a motorbike. he told me to walk there my self next time, so I'm very glad we did not give him the cash after all..... very rude !
Why no Geisha Roll, it was my favorite roll ever. :(
Edit: I posted this, and the manager decided to call me! Which is so unprofessional!! actually am sitting here shocked like "did that actually just happen?" Will be doing both parties a favor and won't be ordering again. I don't want to be disrespected or harassed. He said he was trying to apologize, while simultaneously trying to go back and forth like he always does. I have ordered from here many times in the last two years. It's probably my fave sushi spot in the neighborhood. My issue is the manager. He is so rude, condescending, and combative. Out of the probably 40 times I've ordered, I have only had an issue twice. Which is honestly a great track record. My issue is how awful the manager is at dealing with issues. He is beyond rude, and I can assure you if I was a man on the phone he wouldn't be talking to me like a piece of garbage. I had an issue once and was told I would get credit, after an unnecessary back and forth with the manager, he let us know it would be on our file and whoever answers will be able to see it on our account. Well..next time we order the person on the phone has no idea what I am talking about. No big deal, and we order anyways. Today I call and say the fish we received is off (same thing I order always) and the manager lets us know we can get a credit and they will leave a note on the account. I bring up how I was told that last time, and wanted to double check it would actually be put on there this time. He gets upset and assumes I'm wanting the credit from last time ??? When I was just wanting to clarify it wouldn't be an issue this time. I would understand if I was coming off rude, but I wasn't at all. I love this local spot and would like to keep coming, WHICH IS WHAT I ALWAYS tell him. I don't know what Karen traumatized this man, but he doesn't need to shut down and get confrontational when something isn't right on their end
Was here for dinner in late May before heading into Manhattan for a show. We used to be regulars, but have not gone in a couple of years. Not sure if they have gone through a management change, but we definitely noticed a decline in service and the quality of the food. My husband and I both experienced unpleasant after effects. With only a few tables, they were also rushing us out when it started to get crowded. Disappointed.
Food was okay but the waitresses kept on coming over taking plates while we were eating. Very uncomfortable! Make us feel, hurry up eat n leave. I never felt un welcome and ate so fast at a restaurant before. I ate within 20 minutes. After a hour or so, I got a stomach ache had to go to bathroom bad. I don't think I will go that place again.
This place was our go to place for many years. The last few times we ordered in, the food has gone down in quality and taste. We gave them one last chance this evening and it was very bland. The hubby ordered shrimp teriyaki dinner bento box and there was barely any shrimp, mostly all vegetables and as a bonus there was no teriyaki sauce, it was just plain veggies and shrimp, really bland. To top it off, we both woke up feeling terrible, nauseous. Never again, too expensive to regret our whole meal.
