Great spot! We got a bunch of food and everything was delicious! The only thing I’d say is some of the stuff wasn’t as hot as we would have liked by the time it came out - not sure if a bunch had been made in advance and kept out for a bit or what. But overall, had a good time and would recommend it to other folks.

Delicious food, great service. We ordered the chana bhatoora and the rava onion masala dosa. Both were delectable, good portions that can easily be shared among two people. Fresh and crispy dosa. I followed it with Madras tea and gulag jamun. Highly recommended.

We were in Edison and craving South Indian food. This place was one of the top search results. We gave it a try. Best decision made. We ordered two dosa, absolutely delicious. Huge serving perfect to sample/share on the table, good seating area, little to no wait time to be seated. Staff was very friendly. I want to try the puries next stop.

Saravanaa Bhavan is an Indian restaurant in New Jersey famous for its South Indian dishes. There are some North Indian curries served as well but Saravanaa Bhavan is an all and all South Indian restaurant. The main attraction of this restaurant is that it serves only pure vegetarian dishes which brings people to this place every time. Most of the customers who visit Saravanaa Bhavan , come for Dosa. There are different varieties of Dosa served with a tangy Sambar which gives you a real flavor of Indian spices and an aroma that remains with you even after you have left the place. Saravanaa Bhavan is the ultimate place to visit when looking for south Indian restaurants in New Jersey. Today we tried keerai Vada today and its was evidently so good … Something would love to recommend to everyone who are coming here ….

Yesterday #lunch time we decided to try this place which is popular for it's authentic #southindian #food . We ordered One Thali which has a small #dosa , one #idli in #sambar , Sambar for Dosa, Rava Khichdi and sweet. I would say it's good for one person. The another thing we tried here was Sambar Vada Filter #coffee. I must say everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.

The place has a nice vibe and a little bit crowded as the food was nice I think. We ordered couple of dishes to experiment. The only complaint I have is that the dosas were not warm. However, they taste was good. The Thali had a good variety of things and highly recommended.

Saravanaa Restaurant! The chana was absolutely delicious – full of authentic flavor and perfectly cooked. I also tried their natural and filtered coffee, and it was rich, aromatic, and so refreshing – just the way traditional coffee should be. The food felt homely, fresh, and made with care. Definitely a place I’d love to visit again!

A hidden gem for authentic South Indian cuisine! The uttapam was flawlessly cooked, and the sambar was a flavor explosion. The ambiance is inviting, and the staff is attentive. A must-visit for authentic South Indian flavors! They also have tasty paan for after lunch refreshment.

We had masala dosa and ghee pongal. Our server, Siddhesh, patiently explained the selection of desserts. He recommended the pineapple kesari, which was out of the world. The quality of food is probably only matched by their amazing hospitality.

It is an excellent place for South Indian vegetarian food. Rava dosa, kimay idli and vada sambar is a must to have. Rava kesari is best desert. Both filter coffee and masala chai were excellent. Ambience is perfect. We were served by Priya and I must say her hospitality was a refreshing change. Must place to visit.

Delicious & diverse food options, open kitchen, friendly and helpful staff. Conveniently located between Indian grocery stores...so finish your grocery...then eat a light lunch/dinner or even a comforting meal @ Sarvana Bhavan ...and be happy! For a party of 10 to 12 people we pay 100-150$ which is pretty reasonable!

If you’re craving authentic South Indian vegetarian food, Saravana Bhavan in Edison is the real deal. The place has that classic no-frills vibe—simple, busy, and all about the food. The moment you walk in, you can smell the dosas sizzling and the spices in the air, which instantly makes you hungry. The dosas here are huge, crisp, and perfectly golden. The sambar is flavorful and comforting, and the chutneys—especially the coconut one—are a perfect match. I also liked their idlis and vadas, which were soft, warm, and freshly made. It can get crowded, especially on weekends, but that’s usually a good sign. Service is fairly quick, even when the place is packed. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size, and it’s great for families or anyone missing true South Indian flavors. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for a hearty breakfast or light dinner that feels homemade yet special.

The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was welcoming from the moment we walked in. My family and I travel from Philly on a regular basis because their dosa is truly unmatched. Every visit reminds us why we keep coming back. The staff pays close attention to every table and makes the dining experience feel special. I want to especially acknowledge Ram and Sideesh for their kindness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. They made our meal even more enjoyable. Will be coming back again soon.

I visited Saravana Bhavan with my sister and had their thali. The whole experience was excellent. Ram hosted us and made sure we felt welcomed throughout our visit. The ambience stood out to me as well; it had a calm, temple-like vibe that felt really divine. The food was fresh and full of flavor, and the highlights were the badam halwa and the rasam. Both were outstanding. Overall, a memorable visit and a place I’d happily return to.

Visited this restaurant for the first time this week. Had been to the one in NYC earlier, but would prefer the one in Edison over it, due to the service and space. There is a good amount of space between the tables and the seats are comfortable and one can enjoy the meal and talk in peace. The waiter who served us was so kind, and made good suggestions. We had dosa and medu vada and both were extremely tasty. But the best part was the sambhar, it's rare to find good sambhar in the US. Highly recommend this restaurant.

By far my favorite South Indian restaurant I’ve gone to. The atmosphere is amazing and the restaurant itself is the most authentic you can get when it comes to India. The dosa is top notch, and the gobi is right up there with it every time we are in the area I look forward to the food. I forgot to mention the mango lassi as well, one of my favorite drinks, and this one really topped it off. Highly recommend coming here if you enjoy Indian food!

I am short of words on the impeccably delicious food and ambiance. The food was authentic with Indian flavours and the service was of highest quality. Just loved the overall experience. My daughter loved the food and asked me to give 500 ⭐️, with the inability to add more than 5 I settled with giving the max limit😊 Thanks team to serve us with deliciousness. Today pick: - Rava khichadi (Upma) - Idli with Sambar and chutney - Mysore Masala Dosa - Podi Masala Dosa - South Indian Thali Total cost: $71 (excluding tips)

I have heard about this place from my Tamil friends a lot. This is the first time that i got the opportunity myself to taste the food. It was a peak lunch hour in the weekend. The place was fully packed. I loved the ambiance of Carnatic music in the background. The place was super busy, and the service was very fast. I started with filter coffee. Piping hot South Indian style filter coffee, served in steel glass on top of a steel bowl gives out the authentic vibe at the first place. Our kiddo in the group had some mini idlis where we ordered masala dosa. I ordered paper masala dosa, and my friends ordered rava masala dosa and Mysore masala Dosa respectively. Everything was freshly made and piping hot. Paper masala dosa is HUGE. I loved the potato filing inside and all different chutneys that they served along with it. The sambar was so different ( I’m not a Tamil so cannot actually judge the authenticity). The white chutney was delicious and actually reminded me of the same served with dosa in Kolkata. It was very nostalgic. The food was good, and so is the ambiance. Visit them if you are around.

Saravanaa Bhavan remains very true to its roots in India. Having anything on their menu here takes you to having delicious tiffin and south indian fare in any of the Saravanaa Bhavans in India. Every item on the menu is delicious - from the crispy dosas to the soft and pillowy idlis , anything that comes out of their kitchen is freshly made and very sumptuous. And not to forget their sambhar and coconut chutney is truly the best and the tastiest versions out there . Recently we tried some of the new items on the menu , the Keerai Vada( Spinach Vada ) which is again delicious, sumptuous and super yum. To finish it off do try their Madras Filter coffee which as said before is very authentic and amazing. Do head out if you’re craving some authentic South Indian Tiffin and meals. Great food , excellent service and amazing staff. Kudos!!

We love coming to Sarvana Bhavan. The south Indian food here is amazing and second to none . The idols, vadas and dosas are delicious and so good. The chutneys and sambhar that come with most dishes are also amazing. The Sarvana Bhavan in Edison has plenty of parking and the servers inside are very attentive. We were attended by Sid today and were pleased with our service.

A great place for authentic South Indian food, I have loved my visits to Saravanaa. Have to add, I have not been a fan of their NYC location. But this place in Edison has fabulous and very authentic southern fare from India! I ordered a thali.. it was generous and thoughtfully put together with every dish tasting true to its roots. The thali consisted of—poriyal which was lightly spiced but delish, tamarind okra which was tangy and yum, sambhar which was very light yet quite high on flavors. The kurma was mildly spiced and comforting (unlike many others that I’ve had before but not enjoyed), and lastly, the pickle added a strong kick. There was also a rice-based dessert which was not too sweet, perfectly balanced and satisfying. Absolutely lip-smacking! The masala dosa was crisp, basic, yet totally divine-tasting. Loved the masala inside! Their Combo 2 brings together a good selection of some popular breakfast items with the best dish being their sumptuous and mouth-melting rava kesari. It was the showstopper for me!! I highly recommended this place to South Indian food lovers! P.S.: Pics don’t do justice to the food! :)

Stopped by for lunch and the masala dosa really hit the spot – crispy outside, perfectly spiced potato filling. Also tried the rose milk, which was refreshingly sweet and a nice complement to the meal. Service was quick and the place has a casual, no-frills vibe that works well for South Indian comfort food. Definitely worth a visit if you're craving authentic vegetarian fare.

I was looking for some vegetarian places to have brunch. I found this place and believe me as soon as we entered in, the aroma of food made me very hungry. The place opens at 11 and we went around 11:15, the place was already packed with people with food on their table. Our host Ram welcomed us and served our order very quickly. The food came out quick. Very delicious and heart felt warmth. Thanks to our host Ram for making sure we had everything we want on table quick and wonderful experience. 10/10 for food and service. Definitely visiting again.

Authentic and delicious dosa restaurant. My wife ordered the masala paper dosa, while I ordered the masala cheese dosa, and we very much enjoyed both. Definitely a go-to spot for genuine Indian dosas. I would recommend against buying any drinks (e.g. tea/coffee). Although their tea tasted great, it cost $5 for a very small cup and there were no free refills. That was certainly overpriced, but I'd still give five stars for the dosas themselves.

We had an amazing experience here! The thali was absolutely delicious with so many authentic flavors, and the sweet pongal in the thali was the highlight, perfectly made and very comforting and so refreshing.. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. My kids loved the cheese dosa ,it was a big hit with them! And the mango lassi is a must-try for kids refreshing and super tasty. Overall, a wonderful place for family dining with great food and great service. I recommend this place .

Always guaranteed comfort in each bite. I would say the sambar can be better. But their service is unbeatable, we were seated within seconds of arriving, and food was at the table within minutes of ordering. With two little kids, this is such a blessing!

One of the famous vegetarian-culinary identities of the Indian state (Tamilnadu) I belong to, which also happens to be the birthplace of this true global chain of restaurants- HSB/Saravana Bhavan. I’ve been coming to this restaurant at Edison for close to 6 years now and I’ve always felt that this franchise doesn’t really drive me home for its authenticity in taste which is the stamp of authority for any HSB back in Tamilnadu. Not sure if the management or chef changed in recent times but over time I feel they are getting the true mojo of a HSB. The place is well lit, located in a hotspot of Indian restaurants, has ample parking and the hospitality is always top notch. The menu is not extensive but the prices are nominal which is unlikely for a HSB as they are notoriously known for being pricey back in India :)

Very close to the authenticity of HSB back in India. Location is prime , easy parking , not much crowded (we visited for breakfast ), I have been here multiple times for dinner and lunch period as well. Can’t really comment on quality of the food , as they are one of the hotel serving food with quality as priority.

Tomato onion Utthapam with 3 different varieties of chutney reminded us our home tatste; combination of crisp and soft dosa. South Indian thali and sweet pongal is at best as expected from Sarvana bhavan. Staffs were friendly and respectful. (But Bisibelebath didn’t meet our expectation, also boondi would have better choice.)

Saravana Bhavan on Oak Tree Road in Edison, NJ is truly a gem for anyone who loves authentic South Indian food. I ordered Masala Dosa, Poori, and Idly Vada, and every single dish was fresh, flavorful, and prepared with the perfect touch of tradition. The Masala Dosa was crisp on the outside with a deliciously spiced potato filling, while the Poori was fluffy and light, paired beautifully with the side dishes. The Idly Vada combo was soft, crunchy, and complemented with chutneys and sambar that tasted just like home. What really stood out was the warm welcome and the way they treat their guests—it makes you feel comfortable the moment you step in. The atmosphere is clean, lively, and inviting, perfect for families or friends to enjoy a great meal together. If you’re looking for a place that serves authentic, high-quality South Indian cuisine with an excellent dining experience, Saravana Bhavan is the place to go.

Had an amazing experience at Saravana Bhavan in Edison! The Rava Dosa was perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the coffee was just outstanding – rich, aromatic, and authentic. On top of that, the service was excellent – the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was served fresh and quickly. Definitely one of the best spots for authentic South Indian food in the area. Highly recommend!

I would give it a 6 stars if possible!! We ordered ghee pongal, medu vada and onion rava dosa for breakfast. We came at 10am. Everything was fresh, tasted so authentic, food was served hot, and it was a very quick service. Staff kept checking for chutney sambar refills. Only feedback is prices are on the higher end, would be great if they can reduce a few dollars.

While the food remains enjoyable, the flavor isn't quite as vibrant as it used to be. You'll find ample seating and a clean environment. Though the menu is now smaller than pre-pandemic, this restaurant still stands out as one of the best around. The service, however, remains exceptional, with everyone being polite, friendly, and truly wonderful.

We visited Saravana Bhavan in Edison, NJ on Mother’s Day, as a stop on our way to Vraj Hindu Temple. It was the perfect spot for a comforting and flavorful South Indian vegetarian meal. We ordered Mango Lassi, Sweet Lassi, Diet Coke, Rava Masala Dosas, Mysore Bonda, Kaima Idli, Chole Bhature, and ended with a refreshing Shingoda Paan. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. The dosa was crisp, the Mysore Bonda was perfectly spiced, and the Kaima Idli was a unique and delicious twist. The Chole Bhature was flavorful and filling. The paan at the end was the perfect touch. Having been to Saravana Bhavan in different cities across the USA — and even in Chennai during my US visa interview trip — it’s always a pleasure to see the consistent quality and taste across locations. The Edison branch is clean, welcoming, and well-organized, even on a busy holiday like Mother’s Day. Service was quick and courteous, and it made for a lovely family meal experience. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic South Indian vegetarian food in New Jersey.

One thing I do have to commend is their end to end customer experience which is entirely touchless. You order your food like you would in an online order and checkout/complete payment before leaving. We ended up going on a weekend so the restaurant was quite busy; having said that, waiting time was bare minimum. Food was good esp the sambar rice. Would certainly recommend the place for vegetarian Indian cuisine.

Saravanaa Bhavan in Edison, NJ is a must-visit for anyone looking for authentic and delicious South Indian cuisine. The restaurant has a simple and cozy atmosphere, and the staff is friendly and attentive. One of the standout dishes at Saravanaa Bhavan is the dosa. The dosa here is crispy and flavorful, and it's served with a variety of fillings like masala, onion, and paneer. Another must-try dish is the idli, which is a steamed rice cake that is fluffy and light. Both of these dishes are served with a variety of chutneys and sambar, which are both delicious and add a nice balance of flavors to the meal. The restaurant also offers a variety of other South Indian dishes like vada, uttapam, and biryani. The vada is crispy and savory, and the uttapam is fluffy and soft. The biryani is a delicious and flavorful rice dish that is perfect for a hearty meal. The restaurant also offers a variety of appetizers, like Samosas and Bonda, that are crispy and flavorful. They also offer a variety of drinks like Masala Chai, Mango Lassi, and filter coffee which are perfect to go along with your meal. The prices at Saravanaa Bhavan are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. The restaurant is also vegetarian-friendly and has a variety of options for vegetarians. Overall, I highly recommend Saravanaa Bhavan to anyone looking for authentic and delicious South Indian cuisine.

Delicious food. Heavy wait time. The manager was very rude. He wore a mask and called names for booked tables, which was not audible. Upon that, there was a huge crowd that we had to stand outside, and we didn't even know that he called our names. After half hour we asked what's wrong why is the wait so long and the manager there replied as if he is a dictator that he will decide when to call and whom to call, which in my opion is not hospitality and disrespect towards customers. We ended up getting a table, and the order took long to come on the table. There was a kid with us and was hungry, but his order didn't come on the table even after several reminders. It was just a plain dosa that he wanted. After all the elders finished their food, that plain dosa came on the table, which he felt was a little disappointing. There was another supervisor who saw our situation, and as a complimentary, he gave the kid a mango Lassi just to make him happy. We thank him.

Visited this place last Sunday for late lunch around 3 pm. The ambience , atmosphere is good . It’s a huge place. We find the table quickly and we got the food within 5 minutes . The service was super fast. We ordered veg thali with puri and it was super hit. The food was yummy they only give one puri and lot of rice . You can order additional puri/chapati at extra cost but there I no extra cost for the curries . We loved the aloo sabji, beetroot sabji, green beans curry . Overall a good place for veg thali. I was only disappointed with the cheese dosa . They put so much cheese that it was not tasting good ! My kid Cudnt finish it and was not feeling good after eating even the half cheese dosa. One request with the restaurant to reduce the amount of cheese. Don’t ruin the taste with lots of cheese . Plain dosa was good with the chutneys !!! Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. I am going to visit again soon 😀We also tried mango lassi and buttermilk .

The first thing that hits you is the cleanliness and the bright ambience. The front desk and the servers are very welcoming. We did not had to wait for a Saturday afternoon & we’re given a booth upon entrance. The open kitchen shows the amount of confidence they have on their diligence towards hygiene. The food is very well portioned and value for money in comparison of other Deccan speciality eateries around the area. We enjoyed the rava masala onion dosa, chole bhature, cheese masala dosa, filter coffee and an additional point for the wonder mango lassi!

The place has a positive and a good vibe. However, I feel that the menu is limited and they should have more South indian dishes. I love the Dosa and idlis. However, the thali didn't have any curry varieties. I definitely recommend the restaurant for good Dosas and Idlis.

We ordered south indian thali and masala dosa. The thali was good, specially the poori and kurma were yummy. Dosa was really very light and crispy, the chutneys were delicious. We ordered coffee as well which was not that great. Would definitely visit next time to try other items when in the area.

Saravana Bhavan is the best choice for South Indian veg food. Everything we ordered was tasty. Despite the large crowd as it was on MLK day, the food quality did not deteriorate. However, the service was pretty slow and we had to chase the servers to take our order, get us our food and as well as for that check. May be it was a more than usual busy day, but the standard of the food was up-to the mark.

I recently visited Saravanaa Bhavan in NJ, and I have to say, the food was amazing! We ordered the onion masala rava dosa and it was hands down the best dosa I’ve ever had. So crispy and totally authentic 10/10 for the food. The chutney and sambar were soo good!! The service was great too. The staff was super friendly, and our food came out fast even though the place was busy. Plus the prices were fair for the quality and portion sizes. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the bathroom it wasn’t very clean and I think they need to keep it in better shape. Other than that, I’d totally recommend Saravanaa Bhavan to anyone looking for South Indian food.

Had our dinner here last night, although we been here so many times before specially on weekends, on a week day there was no such rush or waiting but the place was pretty occupied and food was bought to the table quick, South Indian Thali curries we not as good as every-time it was very average for the money we pay, maybe on weekends they might have more other options but we still pay the same amount. Madras filter coffee and Poori is our favorite here. The server who was helping was kind and had good customer service.

The place is Quite nice to visit with family or friends for South Indian food. Their service is really good and quick. We can even place an order through our mobile for the table. I liked their Mango lassi.

Friendly and very authentic Indian restaurant that also serves a but of other Asian cuisine (which I have not sampled). This is a small chain with around 20 locations in the US and in several other countries. All have their own atmosphere. I have eaten in 3 of the restaurants, and all have a good number of customers from India and thereabouts, along with everyone else! They seem to specialize in meals that are served on (or can be rolled up in) one of the classic Indian breads, with dosas being very popular. At this location, there is a big window so you can see the chefs making the huge naan, inflated like a giant beachball until the hot air dissipates (they bring it out this way, which is quite entertaining) and other breads. The foods that accompany it are tasty, with your choice of spice level. Medium was just about that, but my husband's mild dish was a little spicier than totally mild! Appetizers are largely fried, also tasty. Service was friendly and accurate but not quick, which was fine with us. This is a casual and tasty restaurant, with reasonable prices. I personally enjoy more balanced meals of any cuisine... this was more like a delicious sandwich! But a fun and reasonable eating experience.

Visited Saravana Bhavan after having tried their locations in Dallas and Arabia. This one had a really nice ambience and great service. I ordered the special Thali (about $25 per person) and the bill came out to around $125 for four people. The food was okay, I expected a little more in terms of taste, but overall it was still a good experience. Next time I’ll probably try the regular South Indian dishes instead.

15 yrs ago was a different place and while they renovated their interiors, food quality dived ! Worst is their cutler quality which left me disgusted. For the high priced food items it doesn’t meet my expectations ! Lot of better options around ! Safe to avoid it ! Food was avg.

The prices seem disproportionately high in relation to the quality of food and service. The only affordable option for those craving South Indian cuisine appears to be the mini thali, as everything else is exorbitantly priced. Who would be willing to pay $17.50 for just a dosa? It's ridiculously expensive.

My sister had organized a grand party in honor of her son and grandson. Though many options were available, she specifically chose Saravana Bhawan based on its past good service record. So our whole family and host of my sister’s friends were there. But Lo and behold we were confronted with extreme atrocious and disdainful behavior. The person who did this was a guy who claimed to be the Manager. At one point of time he even threatened to cancel our reservation. My sister spent more than thousand dollars but in return she was humiliated . We were shocked beyond disbelief. I need this to go to the top Management and they need to investigate. I need to be kept informed of action taken as my sister deserves justice. So far no one from Saravana Bhawan has reached out to say sorry or apologize for the treatment meted out to us

We wanted to try South Indian vegetarian food and Edison, NJ had this Saravanaa Bhavan. We did a pickup for items totaling to $100. The biggest plus of this place is that they have this machine that lets you order the items. The wait time was around 20 minutes which was good on a busy evening. We ordered the Masala Dosa, Parotta Mix and the Idli. Pro: the portions served were pretty large Con: the items lacked flavor but they give out large options of sauces The lesson I learnt is that Dosa should always be eaten fresh and never for takeaway. If you are in in Edison, NJ to watch a South Indian movie, then it is worthwhile to drop by here. Overall Rating: 75/100

Dine-in on 12/8/2025 Food is not as it used to be. Lately, menu prices have been increased, but food quality has become poor. Ordered Mysore Masala Dosa with masala on side - Dosa was cold and soft, not crispy, charged extra for giving masala on side. Had to refuse the order. Reorder Rava Masala Dosa with masala on side, same crap, charged for making dosa crispy !!! Order mini-idly with sambar on side, again charged for getting the items on side ( nothing extra ordered ). This place is not as it used to be, food quality has definitely gone down. Probably the last visit.....

The food is quite basic with not a lot of variety. I didn’t find the food very tasty as it Wasn’t heated through. Felt like it had been reheated and served. Contactless ordering by scanning a bar code and food was brought quickly enough. Servers all wearing masks and were very courteous. Sanitizers available upon entering. A decent meal .

Food was good and service was very fast. Every thing you have to order from your phone. Only thing that disappointed me was they were charging for water. Only bottled water was available for 50 cents each. Nice ambiance and has good amount of parking in front of restaurant.

Went back and the food tasted better now .. meals is good … fantastic service .. food comes in 5 mins … One of my fav restaurants a few years back. Still good.. And is quite expensive too. For a.family you would spend at least 100-120$ on a lunch/dinner .. once they started North Indian dishes, I felt northy dishes were better than their authentic South devices !! Combo breakfast is really good. And south Indian thali !!! South Indian coffee is a must have ... Overall it's good

Went with an Indian friend who helped me learn about the food and the pairings. Service was good, parking is plentiful. Food was flavorful. One thing that left a bad taste for me was the bathroom and the shared sink area, both of which lacked paper towels. When you eat with your hands, people will be washing their hands before and after eating. A hygienic wash area is critical as it is an extension of the establishment and how their kitchen cleanliness would be as I imagine it. It was just a mess in both the bathtoom and wash area.

Ambiance, service was good. Ordered cheese dosa, which my daughter liked and was good when it was warm. Mini Thali and Full Thali was not as expected. We did not get the south Indian tast given that this is a South Indian hotel. Even water they offer bottle and charge not good at all. Still lot of hotel offer water for free.

Visited during our roadtrip to east coast. Great ambiance, food did not meet my taste expectations. Medhu vada was good, paper dosha was just ok, uthappam was not that good, coffee was just ok, tea was not great. Sambar and chutneys were good. Friendly staff, clean inside and restrooms. Very spacious restaurant, would recommend if you are looking for good Indian vegetarian food.

We have been coming to this location from last few years and the food and service was excellent, today after a long time we decided to bring some friends for good food, and what a disaster, They have the most clueless staff, the food was absolutely a disaster, how can samber be cold? We all ordered food with Samber and it was room temperature, medhu vada was full of oil? They don’t take the orders from you anymore, you need to use the phone, after ordering they bring the food at intervals, and nobody ever came to check if everything is okay? and they automatically add gratuity?

We visited on festival day since they advertised a special festival lunch, but the meal was almost the same as their regular menu with hardly any changes. Despite ordering just a thali, we had to wait 40 minutes. While we understand there was a larger crowd, only two people were taking orders, which added to the delay. Disappointed!

Visited first time and had some good expectations. However food was not disappointing - the bisibele and curd rice were not fresh, dosas were okay and thali had mediocre quality. Cannot complain about speed of service though. They are not transparent about group tip policy which should be mentioned beforehand and should not be as a part of fine print. In a large group, a bill of average 35$ per person is not justified for a mediocre food facility. Cannot recommend to anyone.

Food came relatively quickly but why why why cold sambhar why? We had cold and were looking fw to hot sambhar but how come served cold? Why such small road side stall portion of sambhar in the restaurant with avg+ prices? Why simply cant substitute Two idlis in the combo instead one idli one vada? Sup with the snobbery? Why served ghee less roti, why waiter dont ask while taking the order? Why forks teeths uneven in a way to hurt the gums? Chana sabzi was alright nothing special, just about ok. No efforts or intent felt to make food tasty, just about bare minimum good enough category to be best. Bhatura waaayyy too oily!! Sweet in the combo was good, an extra star worthy. But all in all, wont be returning at least in the weekend.

I have in the past given this restaurant 5 stars as the food was excellent affordable and portions were great. When we visited this saravanaa bhavan near oak tree recently it was extremely disappointing. Portions have drastically reduced and prices are very high. Quality has reduced as well I am leaving my comments from from past below and left the old picture as well so you can see the difference. As usual food is awesome!! Now we can scan the QR code and can place the order from table. Previously I felt most items were very spicy but this time there were some which were moderately spicy. Overall had a wonderful meal and to top it all, it's a vegetarian restaurant. Go early if you want to avoid the waiting

Used to be my only one go to restaurant in Edison for Indian food. I had ordered idli and it was so poor quality. So dry on the outside and it was hard. My husband had thali. The only vegetable was long beans. The other 3 were some kind of curries (which were ok). We had sweet pongal. Was ok. Service was great. Very friendly and nice atmosphere.

After 20 years of patronage, my family will no longer come back here. Poori/dosa/parotta quantity was small, side dishes were watered down, waitstaff forgot to bring water, and there was a large crack in the men's bathroom stall that they covered with toilet paper. Also the signature South Indian Desserts (paysam) was unavailable.

Below average food. Oily dosa. In the name of Kheema Idly, they deep fried idly like rock and added spice on top. They shouldn't sell like items if they dont know how to make.

We usually visit Saravanaa Bhavan whenever we are in Edison and have always had a good experience in the past. Unfortunately, this time the food was not up to the mark. Both the quality and quantity have noticeably reduced, and the taste was disappointing. This was unexpected from a place we regularly visit.

My mom and I had lunch today. The sambar tasted like hot brown water; it was absolutely disgusting. The helpless waiters mentioned that the main chef went to Virginia to help open another branch. The waiters were courteous and professional and there was no manager. None of the cooks in the kitchen were real chefs. So disappointing 😥

Sambar was so plain below average also we ordered vegetable uttapa it was very bad they added so many uncooked green beans to it taste raw not so good with such a high prices. Not worth the money👎

Very disappointing experience. The taste and quality of the food have gone down a lot. The Pongal, Vada, Sambar, and Dosa all taste bland and oily now. Even the meals, combos, and Chola Puri lack freshness and flavor. Worst sambar I tasted recently. I used to visit regularly but recently the food is not good. Overall, not worth the money. If you’re looking for a real South Indian breakfast, try another place

Food is good but queue management is pathetic, some of the staff just roam and don’t want to listen, they have a huge demand doesn’t mean to be like this. We had 11 in total and waited for more than 30min and later requested to split to 4-5 & they least bothered and allowed people came after us. We came all along drove 5hrs..Show some respect!

Such a disappoint experience i had today at saravana bhavan. I was with my family and i excepted something great from you guys. The food quality is very pathetic according to the prior standards. Sambar was tasteless, the only good thing about thali is poori and the sweet they served. This place is really overrated and overpriced. Mr.Ram you should concentrate on guest service instead of forcing people to write reviews. Now i realized how this place have got huge amount of reviews. He was literally forcing me for a positive review. The way he ask is disrespectful. He can ask for genuine feedback but not for the positive review. Please take care of the food quality and service instead of this drama. I hope management will take an action about this.

Lost its charm and authenticity . The taste and quality of items dropped drastically, especially the pongal ,vada, sambar and Dosa's . I used to eat there very frequently but observed this for a few months . Just to mention ghee rice is not Pongal and Daal raasam is not sambar . Try some other place if you like to have some pure south Indian breakfast.

We went as a group of 8 people over the long weekend, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The service, attitude, and food quality completely spoiled the mood. This place is supposed to be good based on its reputation, but the side curries for the poori and parotta were diluted to the thickness of rasam. A big no to the Veg Thali. I brought my group here expecting high quality after seeing their promotional email, but it was truly hopeless. It ended up being a waste of $180 and our peace of mind. It also felt like they were being overly greedy because of the long weekend. A proper poori curry cost an additional $2, raita was another $2, and it just kept going like that. Be careful.

Food is not AT ALL great. DO NOT ORDER MYSORE BONDA. ROADSIDE BONDA ARE FAR BETTER. FOR 12$ I RECEIVED WORST BONDA I NEVER ATE IN MY LIFE.VERY EXPENSIVE. BUT Ram has provided outstanding hospitality. Very attentive, courteous, and quick with requests.

Me and my family visit Saravana very often. It used be a warm and friendly place, now the service really degraded to very cheap i can say…. The past servers who used work here made our experience a lot better even when the food was not good at times, they had smile on their face every time and they used to be very responsible for everything, I don’t see them anymore and the new severs here should learn something how to behave with the guests. There is a man who keeps changes his expressions when we try to say something about the food. We felt uncomfortable with him in the last visit. Hope the management understands this and gives us the service we deserve, as we keep on visit your place no matter what.

Worst experience ever.... Not only low quality food, we have faced low quality service. Am a regular customer of saravana since years. We used to love the food and service. But last visit our whole experience was completely ruined by our server Ram. From the moment we sat down, it felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. He was rude, impatient, and dismissive, barely acknowledging us when we spoke. Orders were taken incorrectly, requests were ignored, and basic courtesy was nowhere to be found. We waited far too long for everything, water, food, the check, It took 15 minutes for him to serve the lassi we ordered and only after reminding him. and when mistakes were pointed out, Ram responded with attitude instead of accountability. No apology, no effort to fix the situation, just indifference. A restaurant can have great food, but service like this makes it not worth returning. If Ram represents the standard here , its gonna affect your business and I’d strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere.
