I’m new to the Bay Area and had been craving soul food for awhile. Today I decided to take a drive to the city and try this place out. Let me just say they did not disappoint. I had the chicken and waffles with a side of collard greens, cabbage and candied yams. It was a little pricey but was worth every penny. I have definitely found my new spot for feel good food! Oh and the staff was nice and friendly and I did not dine in but the environment looked welcoming and comfortable. Next time I will stay to eat. The only down side is that it is hard to find parking but once you do it is totally worth it. Highly recommend this place for soul food.

I just took my 2nd vaccine shot(Pfizer) last week and was very sick the next day with fever, chills, head aches, and body aches. I survived! All I had was fish "jook" or porridge, my cuisine of choice when sick. It had me thinking of what I couldn't wait to eat next or crazily what my last meal would be. It would have to be fried chicken! Hard Knox in SF makes a pretty good crunchy and juicy fried chicken. The oxtail is almost as good as the way my mom makes them. 3 tender pieces of heavenly goodness oxtails with gravy. Mashed potatoes and Mac and Cheese are great sides with some Crystal 🔥sauce. Get the piano and church choir singing 🎶

If your looking for good soul food look no further. Hard Knocks cafe is located off of 3rd Street and is well worth the drive. Ive been here a few times and haven't been disappointed yet. I always order the oxtails cabbage with rice and gravy. my brother like their smothered pork chop. Or spare ribs greens and macaroni and cheese (all comes with cornbread ) and had to try their seasonal gumbo no crab but still surprisingly done well.

Burgers and fried chicken! Came here for lunch and the food came out relatively quick. Got the spicy Cajun and friend got fried chicken with Mac’n’cheese. Definitely try the corn bread they bring out first, tastes amazing. They also have a wide beer selection, not like a brewery but ‘nice to haves’ for a joint like this. Would definitely come again, staff was super friendly and food tasted great!

Best soul food you can find in the city. Fried chicken was crisp and hot. Corn muffins we're on point. And the price of food and drink we're the best you can find in the city. 4.50 for draft, 3.50 per bottle. Fried chicken $15 for three pieces plus two sides and corn muffins! It's a small place so be prepared to wait a while, but the wait is worth it!

Southern staples (barbecue, fried seafood, blackened options) served with two sides. Stewed Cabbage side, a highlight. Fried Shrimp, on Po Boy Sandwich or as a side (pay per shrimp), excellent. Industrial interior speaking to the pier-side past of Dogpatch is novel. Only comment is the crispy fried batter could be a little less greasy. Complimentary corn bread muffins, delicious with salty butter.

Nice hole in the wall place. Well-curated menu with a good variety of selections. Got the grilled chicken sandy bc i dont f with fried stuff- did not disappoint. Good size portions of some tasteless food. Chicken fried steak weak as hell, don't go here for quality southern/home style food. The Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes were way more flavourful than the actual chicken fried steak and gravy for $21 before tax

This is a ghost kitchen!!! Please at least remove the images of the brick and mortar signs, tables, environment. It led me to believe I could walk in and sit down for a bite. I loved the food when I went to a different locarion previously, but was extremely disappointed to make the long walk from where I was in the city to arrive here, just to see a mass market pick-up only place; a ghost kitchen.

Food is not good.. Taste kind of bland. Pork chop extremely soft no flavor and cornbread is good. Yams are old. I would not recommend this place. Fast delivery, no utensils given.

This was VERY DISAPPOINTING! We ordered 2 meals online through Uber Eats. The delivery was the only thing that went right. The food was cold, the fries were hard and stale. The drinks which we spent $10 on and received a full cup of ice with a splash of lemonade. I ordered a veggie burger and it tasted like it came out the freezer and served on a bed of dry stale fries. Not too mention the side of greens looked decent but I couldn’t tell you how they taste because they didn’t supply ANY plastic utensils!!! When I called and asked why there weren’t any they said it was not requested. WOW I guess that’s why we didn’t get NAPKINS either!!! 😤. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Waiting area inside is cramped and the waiting area outside is next to a dumpster. No place to sit or eat. No restroom. You wait to pick up your order at the counter but they need a bell on the counter. They serve hot tea in a styrofoam cup using plastic tea bags. $2.25 Chicken, fries, and red beans are so so.
