We really enjoyed the atmosphere at Sorrel 💚 It wasn’t overly busy, which created a wonderful sense of privacy and calm. The service was attentive and thoughtful — the waitstaff genuinely cared about our experience and were always ready whenever we needed anything, without being intrusive. The flavors were beautifully executed. In particular, the truffle cockerel pasta stood out — rich, balanced, and memorable. That said, I do hope the restaurant continues to refine certain aspects. The desserts felt underwhelming for a Michelin-level restaurant — during our visit, there were only two ice cream–based options, which came across as a bit too simple and uninspired for this caliber. 🍷The wine list could also benefit from further development, especially with more vintage selections. We ordered a 2017 Pinot Noir and absolutely loved it, but I found it surprising that the sommelier didn’t suggest older vintages, especially after I mentioned that I prefer more mature wines. It’s great that Sorrel offers wine pairing, and my recommendation would be to allow more customization based on guest preferences — that would elevate the experience even further. Overall, we had no negative impressions, and the evening was genuinely enjoyable. I truly hope the restaurant continues to evolve and fine-tune these details, as the foundation is already very strong. Thank you 💕
Fine-dining experience at Sorrel was simply amazing! Each course was delicious, served in a unique style that made it a culinary delight. They accommodates my dietary preferences. Wines were excellent and warm service made it all together a memorable experience.
A superb fine dining experience. Had the privilege of enjoying the summer tasting menu. The staff was on point throughout service. The kitchen staff worked like a military unit. Everything was prepared and presented with care and class. Especially loved the focus on ingredients over flash, no over the top garnishes like gold flake or out of place caviar for the sake of a price hike. Just quality cuisine prepared with passion.
I had a great time at this restaurant! The dishes were all so well presented and it was such an experience tasting all of the artistic dishes. One person with me made a request for more savory rather than sweet dessert, and they were very accommodating and concocted a beautiful savory dessert just for them! The service was ridiculously great as well, and everyone at the table was very full, despite the seemingly "small" dishes. We got the 5 course tasting menu plus had to try all of the additions as well. There's also an 8 course tasting menu with additions as well, but it appears like their menu is updated seasonally.
Michelin Star rated restaurant and my friends wanted to come here for their birthday, they’ve been here years ago but it was my first time. My friend made a reservation for 5 in advance, I think online. We had a 530 reservation and it took about 4 hours for our entire meal. There’s street parking and we all got lucky with finding our parking. They also can take your coats and bags. They greeted us with a birthday card on the table. We started with a bottle of French red wine for our table. Our servers were super kind and friendly. All of the courses were different and really good. We added an additional caviar savory cheesecake and a duck leg and shared it. We were surprised with the palette cleanser, birthday ice cream bars, and chocolates at the end. They had some bar seating not sure if they needed reservations. They also have a larger private dining area in the back. Nice cozy inside and outside vibe of the restaurant.
Overall solid experience. Ambience was cozy but classy. We were seated about a half hour late due to the table before us taking their time, but the restaurant offered champagne on the house for that reason and fired up the dishes right away since we had one member of our party who had to catch a flight. Very kind of them. Every dish was great on the five course menu. We added oysters (highly recommend! Especially the hot ones) and the duck (half size) which were all also phenomenal and we were quite full after that. Hope to be back soon!
This is an exceptional restaurant! We are here visiting from Australia and decided to celebrate a birthday at Sorrel. From the moment we were greeted the staff were kind and attentive. We absolutely LOVED the food. We will be back! Please trust us and give this restaurant a try it is so special
Creative and delicious food. Service seemed a little nervous and formal. We did the 5-course tasting and the pacing felt off with longish waits between courses. The good courses were spectacular -- definitely worth trying. Small list for wines-by-the-glass but excellent choices. Wine cocktails were also great!
I took my GF here for her birthday and our first michelin star restaurant and she and I loved it! The staff greeted us and had a special table with a birthday card on it for her. All the courses were amazing and the duck breast I highly recommend. Wine pairing work out well. They also brought out an ice cream with a candle for her and she loved it! Thank you to all the staff for making our experience special!
The food was delicious! The menu is prix fixe and every single course was impressive. We ordered the seasonal duck and wow - very much worth it. Additionally, the white sturgeon caviar was a highlight for the experience with the freshness of the tomato and strawberry salad. We opted for the wine pairings and it was really well matched so I'd encourage others to do the same. The ambience was perfect, too. I'll definitely be back.

Sorrel was absolutely perfect! Thanks to Alex Hong and Matt Hall for all their hard work and dedication in making it such a great experience. You have to try the duck - it was a fantastic addition to the winter tasting menu!

Really enjoyed my time at Sorrel, all the dishes were really well executed and service was top notch. Reminds me of my chefs table experience in New York! Got the tasting menu and I feel like you can’t go wrong with that. Will definitely come back to try their other items on the menu.
Service and food are top tier. Love the pork dish and the duck dish. Their food has layers and layers of flavors and tend to be strong. Very enjoyable! Service is top notch. Parking can be hard here.

Excellent service, wonderful atmosphere, the food was delicious, especially the non-alcoholic drinks pairing. But the next day we woke up and our mouths were very dry as if we ate too much salty food. Please maybe tune down the salt a bit.
The dining experience was a mixed bag. The food was fine, but it fell short of being truly great or memorable. We opted for the winter tasting menu without any additions or substitutions. While the course presentations were visually impressive and creative, the flavors didn’t live up to the expectations. A warm, frothed milky element appeared in most dishes, and I found it overpowering and unappealing. The portions across the courses were also quite small, leaving me unsatisfied. Some specific notes: the focaccia was enjoyable but overly oily on the top crust, and the halibut was well-cooked but accompanied by a creamy side that clashed with the fish. Almost every course had a peculiar flavor combination that didn’t quite hit the mark for me. That said, the popcorn dessert was a standout—delightful and perfectly executed. The restaurant offers a mocktail pairing option, which is a nice touch for non-drinkers, but they don’t serve mocktails à la carte. The only non-alcoholic drink available outside the pairing was a “sparkling” wine that tasted more like apple cider—a bit disappointing given the potential for more creative options. Service was friendly and attentive, but perhaps a little too much so. We were served by at least five different people, and with the restaurant being quiet, they hovered frequently. While well-intentioned, this made it difficult to carry on an uninterrupted conversation with my friend. Overall, the effort was evident, but the execution—both in flavors and service—left something to be desired.
*Bumping my 5 star to a 4 star. When we first went we really impressed with the dishes. The last few times were just ok. The pacing of the food arriving was off. There some times we had to wait for a long time for food to come out. Where some was quick. We did the white truffle dinner in the Fall and it was a bit of a disappointment. We couldn't taste the white truffles at all. It was not fresh and weak. If your paying that much - expect the white truffles to be excellent. ********************************************* This review below was our first experience Really amazing dishes. Did not overly full. The meal started light and refreshing and a few heavy dishes at the end. It progressed really nicely. I would definitely consider coming back again. Some very creative dishes. Easy to find parking. It was a Sunday so free parking around.

Fantastic experience - Food was generally good. The caviar cheesecake is absolutely one of the most creative and delicious dishes I have ever had. The one dish that fell flat for me was the one with gnocchi & peas. I wish it had been given more color or livened up a bit flavor-wise. The service was great all around - excellent attention to detail.
We recently celebrated an early Valentine’s Day at Sorrel, and overall the experience felt fairly average for a Michelin one-star restaurant. Location-wise, it’s in a relatively safe neighborhood. We arrived a little after 5 PM on a weekday and were lucky enough to find very close street parking. The interior ambience is pleasant — tables aren’t particularly far apart, but the dim lighting creates a sense of privacy and comfort without feeling stiff or overly formal. We opted for the 5-course tasting menu. The first dish, Half Moon Bay Halibut, leaned quite acidic and sharp. Both my boyfriend and I found it a bit too aggressive for our taste. We added oysters as a supplement, which made for a lighter and more enjoyable start. The Sunchoke and Honeynut Squash courses were standouts — rich, well executed, and nicely suited for the season. The Rock Cod course, however, was quite dry and lacked the delicacy one might expect at this level. A more surprising issue was the structure of the seasonal 5-course menu itself — there was no meat course included. For a Michelin one-star tasting menu, this felt like a noticeable gap in the progression, especially since adding a meat dish required ordering an additional supplement. We supplemented with their signature Dry Aged Duck (half). The portion was generous and reasonably priced, though the skin was slightly tougher than expected. Desserts were enjoyable — the Semifreddo and pomegranate sorbet complemented each other nicely, with one being rich and creamy while the other provided a refreshing contrast. Service was professional and well paced — attentive but somewhat reserved rather than particularly warm. We had noted in our reservation that we were celebrating an early Valentine’s Day. While everything ran smoothly, there wasn’t any acknowledgment of the occasion, which made the experience feel slightly less special than we had hoped. Overall, the meal felt competent but not particularly memorable compared with other fine-dining restaurants in the Bay Area. While nothing was especially wrong, it ultimately wasn’t distinctive enough to make me want to return.
5/30/2025 - Table for 2 This has been on my list for years… finally got a reservation and was disappointed. The food was beautiful but flavor was lacking. Not worth the price. Service - Too good? So many check ins that we could not have a quiet conversation. Too many waiters going back and forth for the small space. They were a distraction. The bread was the best part! Loved it
We tried the fall vegetarian menu and it had a great presentation. If you like Japanese touch in the food it perhaps is a great place to venture. For us it was a bit too different on the pallet even though we like Japanese flavors. Nice ambience as well. However not sure what happened between one of the two courses we ended up waiting 25 minutes without anything on the table. Usually that never happens in a tasting menu.

Interesting attempt fuse Chinese food with other cuisine. Won’t say it’s the best experience we had in similar restaurant (Michelin star). But definitely interesting. I don’t like there are so many extra that requires extra pay … not good for the overall experience, not worth it for $350 per person for sure. Also, the drink portion is tiny and service is super awkward … no one talks to us proactively and we have to ask for everything …

Having lived in Europe & UK & passionate about going Michelin star restaurants, I was super excited to take my wife for our anniversary. Eating at this place left me baffled as to why it has a Michelin star For me - service and atmosphere was impeccable , but the food did not deliver to my expectations and the vegetarian food for my wife seemed like a complete after thought, either over seasoned or under seasoned. For what we paid, we were expecting to be blown away. For this price you would expect the ingredients such as fresh truffle shavings add on for 45 dollars per person , to add fragrance and taste to the dish , absolutely failed to do either To conclude This is a good restaurant for service and ambience if that’s your thing , my thing is the food needs to match the over blown pricing you pay for …

Food poisoning. We sat at the bar and ordered from the a la carte menu. Very good but tiny portions and expensive. I realize this is fine dining and that's par for the course. What I wasnt expecting was severe food poisoning 32 hours later. I think it was likely the oyster dish. I'm assuming it's from here, because I know someone else who dined there the same evening in a different party and got sick at the same time as me. Food this expensive shouldn't make you sick.
