No longer eating meat or dairy or wheat and the buffet offers a broad selection of options for discerning guests. Delicious stuff.
The food is delicious and the service is friendly and courteous. I've always enjoyed the food.
The lamb tikka masala is delicious, however the food is expensive and the customer service can be rude.
Amazing food ! It's really is the best Indian place in Albany in my opinion
I often come and eat here. The food and people who work here are really really good!
Great food and proportions for takeout
Theeeeee bestttt Aloo Paratha and mint Chutney I’ve EVER had
Our favorite Indian-Pakistani buffet restaurant in the area. Very good food, unfortunately the buffet stopped. It is our go-to place.
Wonderful service & food. I ordered food for delivery & my order was perfect & customized the way I requested. Thank You!
Best curry in Albany, I ordered a lamb curry extra spicy and they definitely catered to my taste.
I eat here at least a couple times a month. Incredible value, delicious food and great service. Highly recommended!!
Great Indian food. A little pricey for the atmosphere, but totally worth it. The Chicken Tikka Massala is the best!
Really great food and I seriously mean it. Me and my wife go there almost every week and it truly has never disappointed me
Best Indian food in Albany! Highly recommend everything is always perfectly cooked and seasoned
Best indian food in albany! Every time I visit I come back and the quality and flavor is super consistent and delicious.
The food never disappoint jist wish the staff was a little bit nicer.
Best food period.excellent customer service, price, butter chicken my daughter loved it
Yummy Food very good rich flavors we had shrimp Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan Excellent service I will dine again. Thank you
This place is the Albany standard for Indian food. I have never been disappointed by the quality and the price is fairly reasonable. It's a bit of a hole in the wall so if you didn't know where it was, you might miss it. Which is odd because it's right on the Madison Avenue strip near Market32.
Literally every dish we ate impressed us. Food was surprisingly fresh for a buffet and the meat was super tender. Great price for what you’re getting
The buffet here is amazing, you cant beat the quality and value! 9.99 on weekend evenings for dinner. The tikka misala is great. Dont let the outside appearance dissuade you this is easily the best Indian food in the area.
It's small and be a lil stuffy if you dine in. But the food is AMAZING I love the biryani and the curry goat 👩🏽🍳😘
One of the best Indian food restaurants around. Once in a while you might get something that's not up to their high standards, but otherwise, 9/10 times very good food and very good portions for the price.
This restaurant has always had the best Indian food, but not very friendly service. I had not been in a long time and today I went to their lunch buffet and the service was excellent and very friendly!
Good place to eat. No customer service, one tired young man works the front and takes the order. He doesn't say hi, or greets, worst server. But food is good.
The food is so good and I can't stop going . My mouth waters every time I see it. Chicken tikka masala is just superb and the salmon biryani just gives me a fresh taste In my mouth I just can't get anywhere else.
Great lunch buffet with a wide variety of both vegetarian and meat dishes— all delicious! Inexpensive, excellent service, fine hot chai tea made to order. Nice atmosphere for conversation. Quick and friendly service. Buffet open until 2:30pm but we were not rushed and stayed until after 3pm. Will definitely return!
They have the best curry food!! Definitely recommend trying! It may seem like a hole in the wall but it is wonderful for take out and eating a delicious meal that can also provide leftovers for tomorrow's lunch :)
Food and service is amazing. I’ve tried a handful of Indian/Pakistani food in the capital region but this place is by far the best. Lunch and dinner buffet have great selections. The food is reasonably priced, delicious and never disappoints!
Easily my favorite lunch buffet in Albany. When I moved out of walking distance of this place, I was truly heartbroken. The buffet usually has an excellent selection of spiced and plain rice, with different selections of chicken and lamb and vegetables. Not to mention plenty of sweets and naan. A pretty standard variety of drinks as well including traditional beverages and smoothies. Can't speak to the prepared dishes so much as I think I've only had the Tikka Masala once, but I remember definitely enjoying it.
There's some really fierce competition when it comes to Indian food in the capital district, Albany especially. As a result, I had some concern when I went to Curry House last month and saw that the lunch buffet price was up to $8.99 and dinner buffets now cost $10.99. Once I filled up my plate with a rich variety of meat dishes and vegetarian offerings and dipped a piece of hot, fresh naan into some sauce in my plate, I knew it was worth every penny. I especially enjoyed the chana (chickpeas), which had a decent kick to them, as well as the curry chicken, which is also a little on the spicy side. The servers are always prompt in filling drinks and taking away plates and Curry House is one of the few places that offers paneer on its buffet. On my last visit, it was a little dry and burnt, but this is not the norm.
I love this place! The lunch buffet is reasonably priced & the food is not too bland & not too spicy. Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is great. We go here often to enjoy visiting during a great lunch!!
I ate the buffet. The bread was warm and buttery. The food had good flavor and the temperature was good. It’s not the prettiest restaurant, but I’d definitely be back.
I am a big fan of Indian food, checking out all the local Indian restaurants with my mom was a ritual of ours; I moved to New York five years ago and this was the FIRST Indian restaurant I've ordered from since I moved here. My boyfriend experienced Indian for the first time when I ordered, and the food was absolutely delicious! My mother and I always order our top favorites and judge how the restaurant is based on that; and now my boyfriend knows the ritual my mother and I had and loved. Ordered chicken tikki masala, pakora, samosa, and naan - can't forget the delicious sauces. It was an outstanding experience and I will be looking forward to next Friday; payday so I can order it for us again!
Curry House is one of my two go-to restaurants in Albany. Always fast and easy - good prices and good food. Not fancy, but who needs a fancy place when getting take out anyway?
Good food and good service all the time. Our family love this place, there is a best Indian food for us.
Great good, nice people, I’ve been getting food from Curry House for years.
Curry House Inc is the best Indian restaurant in Albany. Consistently delicious, high quality and fresh. The service is fast and precise. I am in Albany every other weekend and have ordered from Curry House Inc every time. Love the vindaloo, malai kofta, onion bhaji and garlic naan. Sauces and sides are all homemade and excellent. Highly recommend Curry House Inc to anybody in or around Albany in search of authentic Indian cuisine. One of my favorite Indian places in all of New York.
It was just me and my partner but my lamb makhan was delicious, super tender and had a great taste, shrimp mahkan was excellent as well, the owner was very accommodating and nice, other than it being a bit empty the experience was great and the price was good! Can't go wrong with garlic naan as well.
I LOVED this place when I lived in the state. I really miss it. When I felt down, this place always made me feel better. *Edit* I moved back to Albany and they are still here and their food is still amazing. I miss their lunch buffet but I understand that since covid times things have changed. Same people still there recognized me and there is awesome as ever. I am thrilled to see that they are still around. Go here.
The food is delicious here. It's always on par with my expectations. I've had better Indian food but I've also had much worse. The owner is awesome and is always concerned with quality and the happiness of the customer. I have many friends who'd rate this spot as number one. I also agree with posts about the freshness of the mango lassi. Luckily, I go for the food and my regular drink is water. I give five stars because the food was fantastic and my other half was happy with the food multiple times. If she's happy, I'm happy.
Atmosphere not great, sometimes very hot, but the food is amazing. Prices are great as well.
Love the food here. Never a disappointment. I make a visit here at least every 2 weeks. A great date place or a group of friends. Thank You!
Went for lunch buffet on a weekday, amazed with options. There were like 5 vegetarian choices and chicken three ways, with chicken biriyani for 9 bucks. Would recommend.
Good food and hospitality, the owner didn’t ask us to leave at closing and took really good care of us.
Very nice little Indian restaurant. The lamb vindaloo was very good as was the tiki masala. Good service. Plus an easy walk from the Pine Hills area.
A good Bangladeshi-Indian restaurant. They have a lunch buffet for a good price. Varieties of options. Friendly staff.
Satisfying and delicious. Is there better Indian in the area? Maybe, depending on what you’re after. This joint is solid AF though. They’re my favorite in ways. The veg samosas are killer.
Went there around 7pm the buffett was fully stocked with a ton of good looking food yet oddly the place was completely empty.not a single customer except myself and the host.i was honestly hesitant about the food.i got the mattar paneer and chicken tikka masala both were ok.not the best not the worst. The tikka was kind of sweet almost which i was looking for a little spice mattar was ok but a little bland.id give this place another try if we are in that area of Albany again
Tasty and cheap especially with they're lunch buffet prices. Service is super fast and I haven't had any issues getting a table set up and eating within like a minute s of getting there. Only issue is it can be hard finding parking sometimes.
Last visit I ordered take out, but dine in from time to time. The service is usually excellent, and the food is always good. The prices are a real bargain - especially the lunch buffet.
Food is delicious, but they forgot to pack napkins, fork, spoon...
This is definitely the best Indian food around. I've tried a few places and haven't found one better yet. They aren't cheap with the spices and that's what makes it better than the others I've tried.
Food is good, tho a little spicy for me. We chose the option MILD, for both entrees. Either we were ignored, or much more likely, our version of MILD SPICE is different from the cook. I've found this a common issue with many local Indian restaurants.
I have ordered the chicken tikka masala and the chicken biryani from here. The biryani could use a bit more spice and herbs for flavor but had decent flavor overall. The tikka masala was pretty good as well, and my preferred dish from the two. They don't seem to have functioning AC in the summer so it is a bit stuffy in the restaurant but they have fans running. I'll continue to do pickup orders from here. Overall this place is a solid Indian food option for the area
I am not very familiar with Indian food, but I enjoyed everything I ate there.
Food is good. Very rude manager at the counter. Come early for the lunch buffet. They don't refill enough. 120pm and they're out of tandoori chicken.
Decent lunch Buffett. Tiki Masala was a bit dry and Nan took a while to be replenished. For $10 after tax can't complain.
Cheap price for all u can eat lunch buffet, but not great quality. There are better Indian options in the downtown area.
The naan is still good. The lunch buffet used to be better. Tastes weird now. Not sure if they have a different cook but food not very appetizing anymore
I've only been to Curry House for the lunch buffet, which has a good selection of foods, and the flavors are good, standard northern Indian fare. It's a quick lunch for 6.99 plus drinks, and there's enough variety so that you can change up what you eat. They tend to have almost exactly the same foods every day, so if you like to know what you' are going to get, this is your place. The service is emotional/uneven and the place needs a lot of work, with ugly stained ceiling tiles, a carpet that is getting into senior citizen territory and highly scratched plastic table tops. So if you don't care about the trappings and want to good Indian buffet for lunch - go for it.
i never really leave ratings, but this time it was just such a stressful process to pickup my food, he was really rude and i’m pretty socially anxious, so it wasn’t great to be patronized in front of other customers. great food, but it was just a very unpleasant experience, not going to be going in store for quite a while.
I came here out of convenience for lunch buffet, and I was not impressed. When I entered, the owner was not the friendliest, and I picked a table to sit down at. I tried all the curries, and they were all pretty bland. There was also a lack of naan. I ate one plate of food before the naan got refilled, and the naan was great because it was piping hot. That was probably the best part of the meal. There was a good variety of curries, but they weren't very flavorful and weren't spicy at all either. Although cheap for a buffet at $9.71 including tax, the quality wasn't there. There's probably better Indian food around the area!
For under $10, you can experience an all-you-can eat Indian buffet. The place is very small, but you'll be surprised how pack it can get. While the price is decent, the food, to me was not that great. The chicken marsala was a bit dry, even though it had sauce all over it. I saw several flies fllying around the food area and just a bit disturbing to have to put that food in my mouth. However, I did like the garlic nams though; I don't mind eating that through out the meal. They should have more variaties and should make sure they look after their food because flies are hungry, too, but you sure don't want to be eating one!
The food was very good, but the service was disappointing. The man who was working and serving us, who appeared to be the owner or manager, spent much of the time doom scrolling on his phone, with videos playing at full volume, making it difficult to have a conversation or enjoy the soft music the restaurant was playing on their TV. At one point, he turned off the TV music entirely so he could be on his phone scrolling, and he seemed visibly upset when we kindly asked if the music could be turned back on. After our food was served, he never returned to check on us. On a positive note, the food itself was delicious and we were seated right away. Unfortunately, the poor service outweighed these positives, and we likely won’t return. Hopefully this was a one-off situation and the videos playing at full volume were important.
Food was bland. Tikka masala had a lot of oil, with very mild flavor .the vegetable pakoras were fried in OLD oil had a dark grease with no flavor. The cheese naan had a piece of American cheese inside. I would have never ordered cheese naan if I knew it’d be a piece of yellow cheap processed cheese. I would not order here again. The flavor was missing and is disappointing from a name like “the curry house” do yourself a favor and go to DOSA GRILL for GOOD authentic food.
The food was average. Restaurant owner or manager I’m not sure but he’s very peculiar. We ordered lamb biryani and mango lassi for lunch.. He kept on asking us are we done with our food? For like every 5 Minutes . What’s wrong with him.
The food is good but it was a very uncomfortable dining experience. We were the only people in the restaurant, which is fine, but the owner seemed really really annoyed that we were there. At one point he had a very loud argument on his phone and mentioned something about a lawyer, and we felt like we should leave because it almost felt like we were intruding. I would love to go back but I just don't want to feel uncomfortable like that again.
Not that good tikka masala. Waaay overpriced $12 meals. I got three small pieces of chicken which were the size of 1/2 dollar coin... For $12? No thanks.
I went to this restaurant after reading the reviews here! It was horrible! The waiter was so mean. We ordered cottage cheese curry and got beef bones in it!! And for the worst, he demanded us to pay for it. It was so hot inside when we reached. The waiter not only refused to turn on the AC, but also he waited for us to ask for a pedestal fan. Will never go even near to the restaurant!!
Ordered a garlic naan that was dry and chewy. The chicken korma was pretty tasteless. It definitely wasn't the best Indian food I've had, but it wasn't the absolute worst either.
As far as the buffet goes The food is good when you get it hot but 30 mins into the buffet and the food is cold. It’s horrible because Shalimar is not like this...they’re Serving cold food. They need to buy proper heated buffet table and stop being cheap and using just hot water because it doesn’t keep the food hot at alll. If you didn’t make it within the 1st hour of the buffet don’t even bother eating there or get something to go because your food will be cold. Cold food is not okay. Buffet food is supposed to be hot.
Sub-par unfortunately and I have many 10+ Indian food places in my travels. this place Curry House had good reviews so I'm surprised but when I finally got my meal told the real story. Ordered a smorgasbord: lamb tika masala (my favorite dish), appetizer veggie sampler, cheese naan, chutney trio. The apps and naan were decent to good, except some food was greasy. Actually that was the primary problem way way too much grease altogether. The rice was cooked well but lacked the seasonings that make it delicious, so rather bland. The main issue I had was the tika masala sauce. Now I know sauces and this made my experience an unenjoyable one where its usually very delightful. Curry House sauce was the right color but the flavor wasn't quite right and the viscosity was unusually slippery. It turns out it was LOADED! With way too much oil. I mean aggressively over oily and mildly seasoned. Its had a slippery taste and feel if that even makes sense bec it didn't to me. But later when I went in for 2nd round at night and warmed it up it all made sense when the tons and tons of oil separated (like 40% disgusting) in the container from the orange mess. That's why it wasn't the rigjt texture or taste. A greasy mess lacking flavor and attention to detail. Curry Leaf in Albany is down the street 5 minutes and puts this place to shame (a small hole in the wall spot shelling out deliciousness) chic tika masala & rice with flare. Buyer beware. Many other good places. This is not it or it was a dismal covid struggle to survive this day. I will try 1 more time as I'd like to be clear if this is a bad day or lacking management opps. I'll adjust if anything changes :)
My wife and I went for lunch today. The service sucked, I mean how hard is it to say hi to the customers. We were there at 11:30 am ( a little early I suppose) and found the buffet table half empty. The waiters could not be bothered to let us know when the food will be ready. Not sure if the waiters had anything againts us cause we'r Bengalis because they were welcoming all the other guests quite loud. But to us all we got were cold stares. Needless to say I did not tip.
We just pay for food and not able to eat just 1 spoon that's is we ws so hungry, all the way from long Island ny then we go other Bangladeshi or Indian restaurants
Second time i oredered from them still not impressed food was bland rice not quite cooked all the way asked for utensils because i was at work and dont have any. Did not get them over all not going back again, over priced for the quality
As soon as we walked in, my girlfriend walked out. Place is disgusting. Please save your self the money, and possibly hospital bill.... because most likely you would’ve end up there.. don’t go. Sincerely,
Extremely RUDE and aggressive manager. Food is not fresh and they really need to learn how to treat customers better.
Horrible customer service and food. I came with all my family last night and the waiter kept forgetting to bring parts of our food and when we let him know he kept blowing air and making oof sound as to say he is angry.
They advertised Buffet and there was nothing there except this expensive menu
I don't know why these people are giving so much good reviews for their food. We picked up Lamb curry and Chicken Biryani this last weekend from them, unfortunately it tasted awful. Shocked they dropped so much on their quality. Will never go back again, and neither will recommend anyone. Big waste of time and money!! The guy at the front desk was so rude.
Ordered naan and a panner curry through uber eats. The Naan smelled foul and looked stale..it was brown and seemed to have been cooked days ago. Totally unedible, Very pathetic experience. Naan is a basic thing which an Indian restaurant has to get it right!!! Panner and rice were OK!
Fake food. They put oil in Dahi Bhallas, basically just added yogurt to chana masala and said it’s dahi bhalla. Disgusting, making customers fool
Horrible food. Bland, bland, bland, and once again BLAND indian food. Ordered shrimp vindaloo, a spicy dish. Like eating plain shrimp in spaghetti sauce. Gross. Ditto for the dopiaza. Dopiaza is supposed to be a rich onion grave. No salt. No spice. Near nothing for herb. bland bland bland. Never wasting my money there again.
The restaurant has lost its quality. I remember eating here the last time and it was worth the money. But now the food was really really bad. The paneer and chicken were disgusting. The curries were very watery and were tasteless. Me and my friend have stomach pain after eating at this place. So, save your money and most importantly your health and don’t fill your stomach with trash. PS: Adding more food color does not make the food yummier.
Scurry as far away as you can from this so called "Curry House". As I walked in I was greeted by the empty restaurant and the smell of what I can only describe as boiling sewer water. I should have listened to my nose and walked out. Unfortunately I didnt. My meal started with an order of samosas. Crispy on the outside and ICE COLD INSIDE? I spit out my first bite and when I sent it back the server made me feel like I was wrong and that is how samosas are supposed to be prepared. Once again I should have trusted my instincts and scurried for the hills but my brain didn't seem to be working properly that night. Next up, chicken curry. Mystery meat curry was disgusting. It was listed as chicken on the menu, but I'm pretty sure I pulled a tail out of my broth. Thankfully I came to my senses after this and paid my bill as soon as I could and got out of there. I'm pretty sure I'll have Indian food PTSD after this experience and it will be sometime before I crave Indian cuisine again unfortunately.
These guys are unprofessional. Ordered food from the hotel and did n't hear from them for almost an hour. Then I called the restaurant, I was told that they had been busy and the driver just left with my delivery. After few minutes I received a call from the hotel saying the delivery man is at the lobby. When I met him at the lobby to get the food, the guy was so furious that I did n''t pickup his phone calls and started shouting at me. I asked him to show me the phone calls and apparently he was trying an incorrect #. Food had no quality or taste and had to throw it away. Stay away from this place!
The Vegetable Biryani and the Vegetable Rice both are same, and Vegetable Rice is half the price of Vegetable Biryani and both of them taste bad The Vegetable Pakora, i had to throw them away, worst Vegetable Pakora ever, as hard as stone The Malai Kofta was okayish and the Onion Kulcha was bad I asked for plates and spoons, i even put in the instructions, they don’t even care about customer’s request
Place has gone downhill so much, chicken was dry. Service was terrible, rude and pushy. Advertised a buffet, but no buffet was available, wouldn’t come back again.
Edit & Update 7/2019 - BAD MANAGEMENT, STAFF, AND SERVICE! I'd been a patron for over 10 years. Today was my last visit. I was told by the cashier that I couldn't eat the food I wanted from the buffet and I needed to fill up my plate with rice first. My money, to pay for a buffet I've been getting for over 10 years, and I have have been instructed in how and what I must eat as a paying customer, even if I can't/don't want to. Good job curry house. You lost me & and my co workers whom I used to take with me to lunch. Super expensive and small quantities if you order of the menu. Go for the buffet. The lunch buffet is ok value and the options are good. They always have naan and Tikka Masala. A favorite lunchtime meal for eating in or even taken away.
Used to be the best Indian food in Albany, but has fallen off badly post covid. Last order was all old, dry, stale food that arrived cold and pretty much inedible. Figured it was a one time flop, so I wanted to drop by for their famous buffet for lunch a few months back. Turns out, they no longer even appear to do the lunch buffet at all. Make the trek to Troy for Shalimar if you are looking for great food and buffet options.
I wouldn’t eat here. I’m annoyed at myself for even purchasing anything from this establishment. I called and order a mango lassi. Now I’ve had them before so my mouth was already watering for one. I get there… not a customer in sight. Cool… I’m going to be in and out… NERRRRPPP… I waited 5 minutes. Still not one employee comes up front. Ok… well I called them and told them I’m upfront waiting for the lassi. A guy comes out pulls the lassi from the fridge and puts in a bag on a table behind me. Now I’m confused because I’m standing in front of him waiting for him to acknowledge me. So I asked about the mango lassi and he tells me it’s behind me🤦🏾♀️. Ok. I paid him for the lassi and left I know this isn’t NYC… and I won’t get the best quality authentic food or drinks but that mango lassi tasted as if it was sitting in the fridge for awhile… it had an awful after taste. I don’t plan on ever eating anything from here and I don’t suggest you do either.
