A true speakeasy experience. We just went for a after-dinner drink but would love to go back for the entertainment. The vibe is retro and the service attentive. It wasn't very crowded when we arrived but I could imagine the small space might get overwhelmed later in the evening. Drinks were tasty, especially the BTG espresso martini.
This place is soo cute, it is perfect, i love speakeasy and craft cocktails! No detail was missed!
🛁🍸 Bathtub Gin – Where Nostalgia Meets Perfection 🎶✨ Tucked away in a great location, Bathtub Gin is a hidden gem that instantly transports you to a world of timeless charm and golden-age vibes. 🎷💫 The music alone takes you straight into sweet nostalgias, setting the perfect mood from the very first note. 🎵🖤 When it comes to the food and cocktails, I’m honestly speechless — every sip and bite feels crafted with soul and artistry. 🍸🍽️ And the staff… you simply have to meet them yourself to understand why I say everything here is beyond great — their warmth, professionalism, and energy elevate the whole experience. 🌟🤍 God bless you all 🙏 — Bathtub Gin isn’t just a bar, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
I love the vibe and the energy from this Speakeasy. The drinks are always made to perfection and the food never misses. The music is a vibe and the staff are so helpful, accommodating, friendly, and attentive. Ana, the server is the absolute best! I've had really amazing encounters with other servers of course, but I've had more encounters with her and she is phenomenal. The bartenders are so knowledgeable and they make drinks with such grace and fluidity. The manager that was on duty, Henri, is incredibly accommodating as well as friendly. He definitely greets guests with a welcoming smile and is always there to be of service if anything is needed. I would definitely recommend anyone to go here.
1920s inspired anything is my kind of place so this speakeasy hit the spot for me! I went with a group of coworkers. The food is small bites and all very good. The specialty cocktails were tasty and the staff friendly. The ambience is great and you should definitely stay to watch the burlesque show!
A truly special hidden gem! We stopped by Bathtub Gin before heading to a comedy show, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. From the moment you step through the secret entrance through the coffee shop, you’re transported into a warm, dimly lit space with vintage charm and great energy. We shared a few cocktails, their Charcuterie Board, and the standout Kimchi Croquettes. Perfectly crisp on the outside, with a fried kimchi emulsion and house miso sauce that was chef’s kiss. Every bite was packed with flavor. The co-ed bathrooms and shared sinks add to the unique vibe, and the space itself is both spacious and intimate, making it ideal for a relaxed pre-show meal or late-night drinks. If you love speakeasies, great cocktails, and inventive bites, this is a must-visit spot next time you’re in the city. Highly recommend!
Stop. Put this spot on your list as a must-visit. This is one of my favorite bars in Manhattan. The drinks are on point, the staff is exceptional at everything and the vibe is super chill. The bouncer got us in quickly, we got our drinks in short order and when a table opened up, one of the servers actually came over to us to get us seated (even though we weren't technically waiting for a table!!!). There was a DJ there when we visited, who was excellent. It was busy but never got overcrowded. The cocktails were delicious. Can't wait to go back.

If you love a good speakeasy and expertly crafted cocktails, Bathtub Gin NYC is a must-visit! Hidden behind an unsuspecting coffee shop in Chelsea, this place instantly transports you to the Roaring Twenties with its dim lighting, vintage decor, and lively jazz-infused ambiance. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had uncovered one of New York’s best-kept secrets. The atmosphere is both intimate and energetic, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening with friends. The iconic bathtub centerpiece adds to the speakeasy charm and makes for a fantastic photo op! Cocktail Standouts 🔥 S’MORES OLD-FASHIONED – Hands down, my favorite of the night! It perfectly captures the essence of s’mores without the campfire mess. Made with Sazerac Rye, bitters, graham crackers, vanilla, and white chocolate, this cocktail is bold, smooth, and indulgently delicious. 🍸 GIN MILL GIMLET – If you love botanical flavors with a refreshing twist, this one’s for you. It features garden gin, fig leaf, yuzu, Coco Lopez, and vanilla, creating a silky yet vibrant cocktail that’s both unique and dangerously easy to sip. ☕ BTG ESPRESSO MARTINI – Not a classic speakeasy drink, but an absolute staple here! Made with Wheatley Vodka, Borghetti Coffee Liqueur, salted maple, vanilla, and Stone St. Coffee, this one was rich, bold, and had the perfect kick to keep the night going. The Overall Experience What truly sets Bathtub Gin apart is the live entertainment. Whether it’s jazz, burlesque, or DJ sets, the energy in the room shifts throughout the night, making every visit feel special. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the craft of mixology, which made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their incredible drinks!
Been here several times and it's my favorite!! The gimmick of the secret entrance is fun every time. Inside, the atmosphere is perfection. Each time I've gone, the wait staff and bartenders are extremely nice and helpful. Wonderful service--it really stands out as special here because of the people who work there. The menu looks limited but they're very skilled and will make any classic cocktails you want. Last time I also tried the salads and was surprised at how amazing the food was also. Reservations are a good idea for weekends or after 7pm, it seems. :)

What more is there to say -- if you like martinis and gin, this is the spot. Dark bar. Plays up the speakeasy theme with a fake storefront on the 9th Ave. and doorman. We will go back.

Absolutely packed when we got here, couldnt get to the bar and had tp leave but will be coming back to try again. Complimentary coat check was great, and the vibes were cute otherwise. Love a speakeasy!
Pretty cozy & nice speakeasy. Has a coat check as you enter. The place is more for drinks than food I would say. Food is pretty decent not many options but whatever is in the menu, is good. I really liked the shrimp toast. The cocktails are good too. Good music & ambiance. Definitely make a reservation if u want to sit down & eat.

Popped in for a drink as the name caught my eye. Ambiance wise its a tight spot that gets loud so if you're looking for something more relaxing, or intimate I would not recommend this spot. Their drinks are okay, but they do have a nice selection of gin, however I would of hoped to have more of a variety in their cocktail menu that extended well into their very diverse gin menu. They do have a mandatory coat check, which I think its a good call considering it gets crowded. Overall the decor was nice, but unfortunately was not a huge fan of the spot as it felt it was more emphasized in the decor rather than the cocktail experience as a whole.
The drinks were underwhelming for the price and the staff was incredibly rude. We lucked out and arrived when they had a burlesque show and that was the best part (hence the stars). Otherwise I wouldn`t recommend it, there are plenty of speakeasies that provide better drinks and WAY better service. I`m always willing to pay for a good cocktail this definitely wasn`t that.
Really cool decor and atmosphere. Drinks were pretty good but food selection was small and extremely average. Service was also unusually slower than I would have liked for it not being that busy.
I want to start by saying our server and overall experience inside the bar was wonderful. It’s a beautiful space with tasty cocktails and a really cool selection of different gin and tonics. The server was kind and attentive and made the night great. That being said I would have given 5 stars if it hadn’t been for the unwarranted rudeness from the door man on a Tuesday night. We were a group of 8 and 2 in our party arrived first to go inside and speak to the host. The remaining people arrived no more than a minute after. We opened the door and the Doorman said “one moment, I have people leaving”. No problem, we shut the door. A couple exited and we thought that was who he was holding us outside for,so we opened the door back up. He snapped at us “I said one moment! We have people leaving”. I’m sorry- again, no problem. That was my fault for assuming. Then there was some confusion from the 2 in our group who were already inside. They were told by the host we could stand at the bar, so she came to the door to get us and lead us into the area where the coat check was occurring. “No, you know what, you go ahead and do whatever you want” the door guy then said to us with attitude. “Go ahead, do what you want”- he was so unnecessarily combative. We hesitated and said “no it’s ok we can wait!” “Nah keep going, just do whatever”. We go to the coat check and he continued to talk about us to other patrons who were in line behind us. We were not being loud or obnoxious, not causing a scene, were not overly intoxicated to the point where we needed to be treated harshly and kept in line. As good of a time as we ended up having inside, purely because of our server, the whole interaction at the door left a sour taste in our mouths about the bar and I don’t think I’d return.
This place is definitely overhyped. The whole experience — from getting in to checking your coat — felt off-putting and unnecessarily complicated. Even with a reservation, you’re still expected to wait in line outside. When I gave feedback about how their coat-check process (taking a photo of the coat token) could be easily abused, I was met with attitude and even subjected to a bag search on my way out. The atmosphere aims for a low-key 1920s speakeasy vibe but ends up feeling rather unimpressive. I was there in the early evening, so I can’t comment on the live performances, but the space was already very loud — not ideal if you’re hoping for an intimate conversation. Tables are packed tightly, even by New York standards, and service was slower than it needed to be. On the positive side, the short rib burger was excellent. I would’ve preferred the fries with a mayo-based sauce instead of ketchup, but that’s a small quibble. As for drinks: the Bank’s Closed Sour was very good; Trolley Problem was underwhelming both in flavor and presentation; and the Sweet Gwendoline, which my server recommended, was overly spicy and didn’t resemble a gin and tonic at all. In short, while a few things were enjoyable, the overall experience didn’t justify the hype — and I don’t see myself coming back.
I visited Bathtub Gin because a friend wanted to go. Without actively searching for a speakeasy, I wouldn't have expected a bar hidden behind the cafe. They actually serve coffee (though it was closed during my visit), and there was a guard at the entrance, who let us in. Stepping inside, it was a completely different experience from the cafe side. A clear 1920s vibe dominated the theme, and I even spotted an actual bathtub, which I assume is a nod to the prohibition era when alcohol was famously made in bathtubs. They did an excellent job of staying true to this time period, from the newspaper inspired menu and the coasters to even the bathroom, which I'll get to later. We ordered several drinks. While I don't recall what my friends had, I got the Gin Mill Gimlet, which was arguably the best one out of all the drinks (everyone agreed) and one I highly recommend. A lot of my friends, however, weren't fans of their choices; one was too spicy, another tasted too much like medicine, and another was overly syrupy. A significant concern arose when a friend who specifically ordered a mocktail version of the Don’t Take Wooden Nickels was mistakenly served the cocktail version. He started feeling the alcohol kick in, and fortunately he was okay, but it could have been genuinely dangerous for people with serious alcohol allergy. The bathroom was very clean, which was great. However, there was a restroom attendant working outside the stalls, keeping the bathroom tidy. While this was very much on brand for the 1920s speakeasy theme, I personally felt a bit uncomfortable and didn't like that aspect, though I did appreciate the cleanliness. Despite my friends' drink choices not being the best, and facing some issues with the service (specifically the mocktail mix up), I thoroughly enjoyed my Gin Mill Gimlet. I'd be interested in coming back to try other drinks aside from the ones my friends ordered. The food menu items also look appealing, so I may return to try those as well.
Good speakeasy in NYC, security at the front and the hostess were very nice and welcoming. Live DJ playing on Saturday night was great, he definitely understood the mixed crowd and played the right tunes. Had the old fashioned and espresso martini, will highly recommend both. Food however was a different story, chicken sliders were dry/not fresh and shishito peppers were under cooked. Will return for the cocktails and tunes, not the food.

Absoultey abhorent staff, treated my girlfriends mother like crap and spoke to us so disrespectfully. Do not go here..
Would never go back here. I booked a reservation for me and girlfriend for Valentine’s Day at 11:15pm. We got there around 11:10 and there was a line. When the bouncer opened the door he asked if anyone had reservations and I said we do so he told us to get off the line and stand behind a barricade. 15 more minutes pass, now it’s around 11:30 and he asked us what time we had. I told him 11:15 for the second time then he told us to watch out for the host who was trying to get in behind me. He said to come on in. Once we were let in, the host rudely told my girlfriend that coat check was mandatory and that most clubs and bars in NYC require it. Which is total BS, as there were many people with their coat still on, plus she was able to not check her coat. The host also told the bouncer to make sure everyone waiting outside knows coat check is mandatory. When coming in there was a huge crowd of people near the bar with music absolutely blasting. We got taken to our table which was in a corner right next to the bathroom. At this point we wanted to just leave after being yelled out numerous times and our expectations being crushed. I asked the waitress for 2 tequila shots and the check and we left. Would only recommend this place to people if they wanna get yelled out to check a coat and if you don’t wanna be able to hear the people you go out with because the crappy music they were playing is filling every part of the place.
We waited 15 minutes outside the door without anyone asking for our reservation which was at 11:15 - we were not let in until 11:25; which is ironic considering how strict they are with their 15 minute grace period. Once inside only I was told to take off my jacket for the coat check. I asked if I could keep it on and the bouncer responded by saying “typically it’s mandatory in NYC to take your jacket off” Considering the amount of lounges, bars, and clubs I’ve been to I can confirm that’s not true. he also yelled to the line outside that coat check is mandatory. Regardless, I was let in with my jacket on only to see everyone else in the bar with their jacket on. Once we got in, we just wanted to leave. In order to squeeze into our table that was basically inside of the bathroom I had to basically sit on the table next to us. This place sucks, and they over book reservations. There are plenty of other “speakeasy’s” in NYC with better vibes, better music, and more room. Don’t bother with this place
Atmosphere is nothing like what they show on Instagram when you first arrive everything is a lot more dingy and not so clean. The restrooms had a bad odor like around sewage. Also it looks like the staff didn’t want to be there. The bathroom attendant was very rude. Also, the water was in hot to wash my hands, ice, cold and cold weather. Not a good combo. Drinks tasted OK but way too pricey for just simple syrup and booze. I did bartending for a little bit in college. It’s not really rocket science nor should it cost that much. Overall, just really upset with the false perception given online.
Me and my guess arrived 15 minutes late to our reservation. The doorman was extremely rude. Would let us in because our table was taken. Then was told by a manager that we could have a different table if we wait. So we did we had to wait an extra 30 minutes, which was fine because we were late but when we got our table, we had a server Chris, which was very rude and disrespectful like he didn’t wanna serve us that we were an inconvenience. Drinks were way too overpriced along with terrible service and a very loud atmosphere and overpriced. Mediocre food. Definitely not coming here for a speakeasy experience.
I’ve rarely experienced such arrogance from bar staff as I did here. The bartenders acted like they were doing us a favor by even acknowledging our presence. Despite being polite and waiting patiently, we were dismissed without any explanation and told they wouldn’t serve us — absolutely no reason given. If exclusivity is the vibe they’re going for, they’ve crossed the line into pure pretentiousness. A bar that refuses service without justification shouldn’t be celebrated for being “exclusive,” it should be avoided for being unwelcoming and disrespectful. There are plenty of places in New York where you can have great cocktails and be treated like an actual guest — this is definitely not one of them.
