Best gluten free Asian restaurant!
It was awesome and the food was great and the staff is extremely accommodating. I RECOMMEND !!
Fantastic food. Pleasantly surprised. Most items are gluten free as well.
Great Proportions of Food and The Wait Staff is Very Friendly.
Amazing gf options especially during happy hour!
The food was excellent. And delivery was on time and easy.
The food is good especially the pork ribs and the sushi nice and fresh. The service from host, waitress, bus boy, they doing good job. They are nice and friendly. The decorations is like a dinning at home… so comfortable and good for family and friends. We went with friends, jolia and the gang 😀Thank you 🙏🏻 Keep continue to maintain quality and service. Congratulations 🎈🎉🎊
The food is very very good, and the waiters are very kind.
Ordered the salmon and scrambled eggs. Mashed potatoes and spinach are exceptional. Salmon perfectly done, moist and flavorful, delicious. Wonderful brunch restaurant.
Wonderful meal. Daughter has Celiac and great options for her. Service was awesome.
:) the food was yum!!! The service was great. Lots of GF options. I would definitely come back.
Really good, love the crispy rice and crispy beef chicken wing also and they pay so much attention to all allergies
Truly a delicious gluten free meal!! So happy to have found this place through TikTok.
This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. It's never crowded, looks gorgeous, has such a friendly staff, and nearly the entire menu is gluten free. As somebody who has been gluten free for over 7 years, there are so many asian foods I have really missed, and they have them here!! This past weekend I had a gluten free eel avocado roll for the first time in years. This is gluten free paradise... and my husband who is NOT gluten free loves it too!
I have no idea it was going to be so good I just don’t have any words to say Service so good I just have no words. It was great 10 stars. I don’t even know if that’s available but 10 stars.
Great breakfast! Many GF options. Joey was a wonderful server!
I connect with the vibe of this place. They use fresh ingredients presented with attention to detail. Clean restaurant and great prices. Workers are remarkably friendly and recommended truly tasty dishes. This spot delivers consistent service.
We had an excellent experience here. The food was fantastic and the service was impressive. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering a pleasure. They were also wonderfully kid-friendly. The kids’ meals weren’t just an afterthought—the mac and cheese, for example, was thoughtfully prepared and on par with the quality of an adult entrée. The sushi and sashimi were very fresh, and the wide variety of menu options was a big plus for the family. It’s clear this restaurant puts care into every detail. We would absolutely love to come back and highly recommend it to others. A great place to spend both your time and money.
This place is one of the best in New York. Gluten free. Extensive menu. Superbly delicious … whether breakfast or sushi or dinner or fried chicken. They really do it great. DoorDash or dine in … I’M in. You should be too. Jay and Bailey are fabulous. Give them a raise. They remember my name and order every time. Great job yall. Keep it up.
The food came pretty quickly and it was all good, plus the service was great. Will definitely be coming back.
I ordered food for takeout. Had a few special requests and everything was perfect. All my special requests were applied to my order.
I thought this was a great option for Gluten Free in NYC, perhaps one of the best. Down by Wall Street, it's quieter than midtown and upscale to at least a mild degree. All options are marked. Servers were knowledgeable and quick. They had filtered water in carafes as well as sparkling water. The server even brought me out a lit candle midway. Prices were good. I've had a lot of Pad Thai, and it was fairly good.
While at the Public Library asked the front desk staff to suggest an affordable local restaurant. What a wonderful experience and pleasure. The menu offers a variety of dishes, the waitress was friendly, hospitable and charming. The ambiance was pleasant and enjoyable. Our orders were delicious and satisfying. Look forward to returning with my family soon.
The waiter Lama was so good. I really enjoyed the food and service
They take celiac disease/gluten free very seriously and food was amazing.
Very delicious food at affordable prices. We keep coming back to this place. Thanks
Amazing Gluten-Free Chinese food! Well worth trying out!
Amazing!!!! So much choice. Delicious food. Great atmosphere. Warm and cosy
My daughter and I both have celiac, and the gluten free menu was AMAZING!!! Our non-GF eaters also had great meals. Highly recommend!
Great Chinese Takeout—Same Location, New Favorite Spot! We’ve been ordering from Friedman’s (formerly Wei West) regularly—at least once a week—and it’s quickly become one of our favorite places for Chinese takeout. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. This time we ordered: Sesame chicken with fried rice – crispy, sweet, and delicious. Beef with broccoli with brown rice – tender beef and perfectly cooked veggies. General Tso’s chicken with white rice – flavorful sauce, though a bit on the thicker side. Even with the change from Wei West, Friedman’s has kept the quality high and the service reliable. Orders always come through correctly, and the food never disappoints. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving great Chinese takeout!
We came to New York for vacation and We went to Friedman’s for brunch on a Monday. It was Christmas so we were happy to find a brunch spot opened. From the service to the delicious food, everything was excellent. I had the chicken and waffle and my husband had the steak frites. We also ordered to go the lemon ricotta pancakes and tried it at home. You must get that!! We will definitely come back.
We’ve been to a bunch of the other Friedman’s, and this is definitely our favorite. They have merged with an American Chinese restaurant that was in the space before, and serves the standard Friedmans’ fare, plus Chinese. This is amazing because most of the Chinese food is also gluten free.
It was our 1st time at the restaurant! First of all let me say service was AMAZING! My daughters have food allergies and I have dietary restrictions. Eric and the chef made our experience one of the best by catering to our restrictions. Eric was very accommodating and made certain we had an enjoyable time. The food was delicious! Unfortunately didn’t take pictures of everything we ate to share! We will definitely return!! Thank you!
Best gluten free options around !! For ALL of their locations including new Serranos near MSG. food is delish even if you are NOT gluten free !!!
I had heard about Friedman’s as a good gluten free option and had to give it a try. I was not disappointed. Menu is all clearly marked with tons of options from American to Asian foods. Server explained all things marked on menu with a green circle are naturally gluten free and everything with a black circle can be made gluten free. They have a dedicated prep space and fryers. Said there is no chance for cross contamination. We started with the wings which were battered and fried. They came out with a gluten free sign. They were awesome. Flavorful and crispy. I then got the fried chicken sandwich which was perfectly done. Again came with the gluten free sign and I even asked the food runner for confirmation which I got. Was hard to believe it was gluten free but it was and it was delicious. Fries came with it as well. Overall was a 10/10 meal and a great gluten free experience.
The food and drinks were delicious. Went for Happy Hour with a friend and we were both very satisfied. Will absolutely come back again!
The nova benny was one of the best things I ever ate! Amazing and on top of that it was gluten free. They had a lot of dishes GF or that could be adapted to it. Had the pancakes too and they were delicious. Would 100% go back to try other things.
This place was exactly what we needed ! A bit of dim sum and matzo ball soup with grilled cheese……. So good I wish I could add more stars. Quick clean great service .
Brunch was excellent. The atmosphere was cozy, the service friendly, and the food comforting without being overdone. The French toast was fluffy and perfectly sweet, the grilled cheese was deliciously gooey and crispy, and the tomato soup was creamy and rich.
Great food, service was awesome. Multiple people stopped the table to check to see how we were doing/how was the food. Wish that other restaurants had as a good as service as here.
So glad our man Omar is here now! Knowledgeable and so kind. You’re lucky to have him! The music was not the vibe, but that’s subjective I guess!
Very friendly staff and the food was great! We loved having a gluten free option and the taste of the general tso was yummy.
Party of 5 here, everyone enjoyed their meal. We tried a salad, burgers, and Tuna melt. All excellent; great cocktails too!
Amazing food and service!! Authentic food cooked incredibly well. Fried food was delightful and not the least bit greasy! Everything tasted so fresh. Thank you! Happy New Year!
Such a wonderful restaurant with delicious plates - all gluten-free! I'll come right back during my next trip.
I save time having such good food locally. The dishes align with reasonable expectations. This restaurant showed its true quality. Their handling of guests shows no flaws. A truly remarkable meal.
This Friedman's is a little more modern than the other locations, but it fits the area perfectly. Food is incredible and service is excellent. I had the Chicken Chilaquiles, my wife had the Nova Benedict, and the kids had Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, BELT, Friedman's Burger and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. Everyone loved everything. We also started with the dumplings (this location is "East Meets West" and has Asian offerings as well), and those, along with the sauce, were exceptional. Additionally, most of the menu is gluten-free, for those who have sensitivities or Celiac. I cannot recommend this place enough, it is excellent.
We wandered in after looking and failing to find a different restaurant but boy what a happy accident. There are lots of gluten friendly options on the menu, which is a plus. I ordered the Korean wings, King crab and avocado roll, and a dirty chai. Everything was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was great.
I had a genuinely fantastic experience at Friedman’s special East Meets West location! They have tons of celiac safe gluten free options, so I was in heaven. I got a lot and it was all good. Especially the sesame chicken and rock shrimp tempura 😭😍 This is a very good spot to check out in battery park, NYC
Food was really good with great service from start to finish. Everything came out fresh and full of flavor, and we truly loved every bite. The staff were friendly. We’ll definitely be back for sure!
Ricc was my server and he was wonderful! With so many dietary restrictions I was so pleased to be able to enjoy a delicious gluten-free seed oil free burger here! The gluten-free bun was very moist and not at all dry, which is rare for gluten-free things
I’ve been meaning to try Friedman’s and am glad I came to the East Meets West location in Battery Park City. Highly recommend the GF General Tso’s chicken, It was excellent and a generous portion. It felt like every 5 minutes someone was coming to check on me and refilling my water cup which I appreciated. I’d rather have to say “I’m doing okay,” every 5 mins than to have to track a server down.
Super happy to find another place with gluten free Chinese food (my wife has celiac). The Negroni was strong, and the beef chow fun was great!
My friend and I needed to find a celiac friendly restaurant and came across this place. My friend was so beyond excited because the dumplings were gluten free and they haven’t had a dumpling in ages. Their joy and genuine excitement made my whole day. The food tasted delicious and was filling enough to keep us content for the rest of the day. Everything tasted absolutely amazing and was packed with flavor. Thank you!
As someone who is gluten-free, this meal brought me to tears. So many choices that I haven’t been able to have in years. Simply AMAZING!
Fantastic gluten-free dumplings — just like in Hong Kong! We ate every GF option and loved them all. Friendly staff, clear GF labeling, and top-notch protocols make this a must.
Me and my gf went here for dinner and drinks on our last night in the city before heading back to Vancouver. It was a great experience and had Kenny as our server. He was very attentive even though he was serving a rather large event as well. Can’t say enough good things about him and the food/drinks were really tasty! Looking forward to returning here and we hope to have him again serving us as he made our visit so much more enjoyable.
“East Meets West” meet Gluten free! Mainly Asian options at this location plus a few great brunch and American staples. Vegetable Spring rolls were AMAZING.
I was already a fan of Friedman’s other locations because they all prepare gluten free American fare food… so actually getting to eat gluten free Chinese and Japanese food was really exciting. It’s rare to find restaurants the serve gluten free Asian food that can accommodate people who are gluten free and understand contamination/taking extra precautions while preparing a gluten free meal. Highly recommend whether you are gf or not– this is a great restaurant!
A few weeks ago, my friend treated me to an unforgettable experience here — and wow, she wasn’t exaggerating when she said this place was a gem. I’d been hearing her rave about it for a while, and now I see why. First off, the portion sizes are more than generous. I ordered the Kani salad expecting a small bowl, but what came out was a beautifully plated large dish piled high with fresh cucumber and crab — so refreshing. Then came the Singapore noodles, and let me just say… probably the second-best I’ve ever had. Packed with protein, crisp veggies, and perfectly seasoned, it hit all the right notes. The vibe here is just as impressive as the food. Bright, elegant decor with a playlist that was absolutely bumping the whole time — bonus points for that! The location is super convenient too, right across from Brookfield Place and the Regal movie theater, making it perfect for dinner or even just a casual lunch. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. ✨ For more foodie finds and hidden gems like this, follow @blaze_eatsnyc for more recommendations!
The gluten free Mac and cheese is a must have! The cheese sauce is so rich and creamy and has a broiled crispy crust on top. Amazing! The lemon ricotta pancakes are like an entree and dessert all in one. The gluten free fried chicken and waffle is simply amazing! The chicken was crispy outside and perfectly juicy inside and the crust was delicious in and of itself. The waffle was also crispy while fluffy inside and stayed that way throughout the entire meal even the part of the waffle that was under the chicken.
The GF chicken and waffles was one of the BEST meals I've had in my entire life! The sweet of the waffle with the savory of the cheese in it...with the delicious syrup! My mouth is watering remembering it. I'll be back, all the way from Arizona.

Everything good: the price (fully honest), the food quality, the staff kindness. A real heaven for celiacs
GF food better than non-gf food — wow. This food was excellent and I loved everything I got.
Although I utterly hate tequila, with the jasmine in the mix that echoes my middle name, I thoroughly enjoyed my Chinatown margarita happy hour drink 🥂✨!

Came for lunch on a Saturday and did not disappoint. Being gluten free myself, this place was awesome! Most the menu is gf or can be made gf. It’s a fun mix of American and Asian cuisine (including sushi). The chef’s special chicken dumplings and crispy sesame chicken were both great. First time having those things in years! Fun modern vibe inside. Can’t wait to go back.
The food was absolutely delicious. I had the brick chicken with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Those were some of the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. The chicken was cooked perfectly and everyone was seasoned nicely and not salty. Loved it!!
With celiac it is difficult to find Asian food that is safe. We came here and felt very comfortable. Like any Asian restaurant the dishes are stylized, but it was hard to believe the dishes were celiac safe. At one point we looked at each other eating the General Tso’s chicken and needed to remind each other we did ask to make sure it was safe. The menu makes it so easy to identify what is gluten free and what is not. Definitely recommend.
The person who waited on us, Bailee, was excellent and accommodating especially after we had a long morning. Food was excellent as well we had the "three" roll which had shrimp and scallop, rock shrimp tempura, beef and broccoli and general tso chicken. We have been to most of the Friedman's and this one is one of the best!
Brunch was excellent. The atmosphere was cozy, the service friendly, and the food comforting without being overdone. The French toast was fluffy and perfectly sweet, the grilled cheese was deliciously gooey and crispy, and the tomato soup was creamy and rich.

Great for gluten-free food, okay for everything else
Standard Chinese-American cuisine that is overly sweet, but quick service and good appetizers (Soup dumplings) made it worth it. Good prices and atmosphere as well. Hopefully all of the evil investment bankers that work next door keep this place in business.
3rd time here and enjoyed the food. I do wish the senior sever knew that they had GF beer. I spent about 10mins waiting for my beer, because there was much confusion. Luckily the new server checked with the manager since the other sever said she was “too busy and just food is gf”. Chicken dumplings are
Perfect choice for after work meal with colleagues. The music and ambiance are soothing and conducive for real conversation and relaxation. Our waitress was attentive and the food was good. Solid choice for a casual connect. Though a bit salty, I really enjoyed my burger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms, no bun.
Seating was quick (be smart—post-lunch/pre-dinner zone), as we had no reservation, and service was fast. Food was delicious! Extensive gluten-free menu. Ice cold pint of Sapora hit the spot after walking the city half the day. Chicken and broccoli was great, as were steamed pork dumplings. The kid had a grilled cheese and fries. The bread was thick and perfect, and two different cheeses in the sandwich! Highly recommend. Also, the Irish Hunger Memorial is a block away…in addition to Oculus and One World Observatory. Battery Park on the water has a fantastic view of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (and New Jersey! Lol). Ask for server Rick—he is friendly and prompt.
It's a typical diner spot. We went on a rainy Sunday so there was no wait even though we had reservations. The espresso martini was very tasty. It's not a place I would have to go out of my way to go to. If in the area and you need breakfast/brunch you will get excellent service and a hot meal..
Came by for a team work lunch just after 12 with a group of 11 people. I had just been to a different location of Friedman's a few weeks prior, so I already had an idea of what I wanted to order. But, the menu here is a bit different from the other ones. This restaurant used to be Wei West, which was a combination of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese. So it seems they merged that menu with the Friedman's menu. I was never a huge fan of the Wei West menu, so I just stuck to Friedman's. I had the Grilled Chicken Swisswich (bacon jam, gruyere, avocado aioli, on ciabatta bread), which comes with a side of fries. I must say, this has to be the best chicken sandwich I've had in a while. The chicken was perfectly grilled, and the bacon jam was SO good. The fries were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside - not a soggy fry in sight. I liked it better than the fried chicken sandwich I had the other location I went to. In true Friedman's fashion, everything was efficient, and the food came out very quickly (but hot). You do end up paying $25 for a chicken Sammie after tax/tip but it's nice for a once in a while treat.
Maya was such an amazing server! From the moment we walked in she made my friends and I feel very welcome and made for a great lunch.
Went for a Sunday brunch. Only good thing was that the place wasn't too busy. Food wasn't fresh, small portions. The fish and Chips portion is tiny. We checked with the waitress before ordering about the size and got very disappointed. The service wasn't friendly. The host at the entrance was friendly. Very disappointing experience in comparison to past experience.
Came for lunch because I know they have an incredible gluten free menu. One server introduced himself and took our drink order and then someone else took our food order. When ordering I specifically told the server I have celiac disease and proceeded to order the vegetable potstickers and a hamburger with a gluten free bun, my friend next to me also ordered the vegetable potstickers for herself. Shortly after someone brings out two dishes that look exactly the same and puts them in front of us. We assumed it was the potstickers and I slowly took a few bites, as did everyone else. Then another server brought out two more dishes of what looked to be potstickers that had a gluten free label on each plate. (This was my first time here so I didn’t know they put a “gluten free” flag on items that are gf) He said we received the wrong items. We asked him if what we were currently eating was gluten free and he said just the sauce had gluten in it (which I hadn’t eaten) and we asked if the dough had gluten and he said he had to go ask. He came back and said we got the wrong item and they had gluten in them. So not only had I been served gluten dumplings, but they also had meat in them and my friend is vegetarian. I understand mistakes happen but I was very clear about being celiac and having other allergies. I’m not sure why our server kept changing and different people were bringing our food out when it wasn’t crowded at all. To make things worse, a manager never even came over to acknowledge the mistake and apologize. No offer to try to make things right in any way. Our server apologized but a manager should have absolutely come over to acknowledge what happened. Very disappointed because the food is really great but for a place to say it’s allergy friendly and then mess up like that is unacceptable.
We came to this restaurant because of the fantastic experience we had at Friedmans at the Edison. I ordered a GF Friedmans burger and fries (ordered the burger medium well). My food came and my burger was closer to medium rare so I sent it back. After a good while they brought me another on a regular bun. Back it went and came out immediately on a GF bun. I asked if they had simply changed the bun which they said they didn’t but at this point I didn’t want to take the chance since it took 10-15 minutes to get the second one (it was very slow when we went). I did have the fries which were delicious. We requested our check and paid at the table. We were seated next to the reception area and when we started to leave the lady stopped my fiance to ask if we paid! The server said we did and she asked again if we paid. After the nightmare food experience, it was an additional slap that she questioned if we paid when we sat right beside her. Never again. The Edison yes. This one..:::never.
I have enjoyed Friedmans until tonight. My daughter found a hair on the wings and my husband found a hair on his chicken and broccoli dish. Unacceptable. I asked the manager, if the cooks covers their hair. The food is good but I am disgusted with finding hair on two different dishes.
I was here before renovations and I didn’t like it then and still don’t like it now. The ambiance was always off and a bit too bright. Even after renovations, you still have the very cheap furniture and still off lighting (Some dim orange) which feels like previous off lighting. I think the bar is worst now because you have to walk all the way to other end when the bar should come before dining room. They have a chance to stretch bar across the room but instead they have a sushi bar but no chairs to sushi bar? Makes zero sense here. To be fair, I gave it a chance and went multiple times. Had the fried chicken and it was dry and flavorless. Just chewing and filled me up but not tasty at all. Yuka Fries not bad but the awful spicy sauce it came with was awful. Another time I tried their club sandwich which tasted fine but look at my picture of club with literally only two slices of turkey and compare the club on their website where they show it stacked with turkey meat. I can go to any average diner and turkey club wud be stacked with turkey. The bagel shop next door wud stack it as well. Cheapos. I tried Chef Wu dumplings and the sweet and sour sauce was awful. The last thing I tried was actually not too bad which was the spicy beef noodles which to my surprise came with five large slices of briskets. Did I get lucky or is this the norm? However, there was nothing spicy about the noodle soup. I think this neighborhood is just cursed with awful restaurants.
Had the pad Thai bento lunch special and added veggie potstickers. Pad Thai had an incredibly measly amount of chicken and the veggie potstickers were basically frozen fried dumplings that they half warmed up.
Service was horrible. We were ignored majority of the evening with our server looking our direction and choosing to ignore us. The woman at the door spoke to everyone on their way out except for us. This type of subtle racism against black people is not acceptable.
was excited to try this place but was quite disappointed. Food was good, but the staff made us extremely uncomfortable. First of all, the waiter told us they did not have still water and that we had to get sparkling water, and then proceeded to charge us $7.50 for the sparkling water. My friend wanted to order a drink and showed her ID when asked, but it was clear our server did not believe she was 21. He told her that they didn’t have the syrup to make the drink she wanted and never returned afterwards so she could order a different drink. Clear that the staff was being very avoidant towards us, someone else brought our food to the table and was very short with us. Manager kept staring at us. It was clear the staff was being nice to other tables but not ours. The server that brought our food and checks would not look at us. This honestly ruined the experience for me and I won’t be back! I’ve never had an experience like this at a restaurant before.
I never write reviews and Maybe it’s my fault for ordering a steak at this place but it was by far the worst steak I ever had in my life. Flavorless even with it being dosed in sauce. I ordered it medium rare and it came out like a tire. Then they took it back for a new one and it took a good 20 minutes and it came back raw. I had maybe 2 bites and left it. Deep down inside I’m thinking maybe the staff sees I didn’t touch this steak and maybe it would get comped but nope. I’m a nice guy so I let it be.. staff is friendly and I still tipped but it hurt pressing 20% tip on an entree I couldn’t even eat.
I have given them several chances… one mediocre meal, a second time for cocktails that was awful. Final straw ordered on door dash for pickup- got there and after 10 minutes of searching they said they couldn’t fill the order- they “thought about” calling me. Don’t bother…
