One word suffices, here: Exemplary(in ALL respects; food, Service, warm inviting & hospitable atmosphere, always feel welcomed, here. Oooppps!!!, almost forgot. THE FOOD ROCKS, PORTIONS ARE JUST RIGHT, AGAIN: the food ROCKS @ Luby's (but, everyone already knows that). Finally, the price is so right!!! Myself & two clients enjoyed a hearty lunch, each, w/coffee, tea, soft drinks, crazy good deserts; AND, we got away for about &48 (FORTY EIGHT DOLLARS, U.S.)TOTAL for all three of us!!! Crazy right. Well, you already know. Luby's is always the right choice w/terrific value, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT FOOD, in a very cool, calm & Relaxing atmosphere (ambiance for U snooty types). Check-out Luby's soon. You'll be glad you did.
This is a great place for cafeteria style meals. Looks like a lot of folks go here after Sunday Church. I am doing keto and had no problem with a salad and blue cheese, cabbage, broccoli, and a delicious roasted chicken plate. The girlfriend had liver and onions, Mac n cheese, spinach, and a jalapeño cheese cornbread. 31 bucks total is a good deal for Sunday lunch and the food was great. All the service people were super nice as well.
Love eating there especially on a cold day, cuz all the warm food. It's kinda like being back in school in the lunch line. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Only thing last time I was there i was hoping for some rotisserie chicken to enjoy with my mashed potatoes. Unless I missed it that day, maybe they can put some out there in the near future. Other than that...I enjoyed it.
They have a large variety of entree and vegetable options that are really good. It's a step up from the fast food places, although the prices have increased. The dining room is large, or you can get Take-out, too.
Thank you Luby’s for servicing our community this Thanksgiving! There are not many options open on the holidays that are reasonably priced, but Luby’s fits the bill. I ate here today on Turkey Day and had the best day! Hot fresh food, smiling faces, and good prices were served. Families and solo diners like myself enjoyed a meal that I usually ate in front of the tv alone. It was nice to get out for a change. Thank you Luby’s!
Ok, I'll be honest, I was never a Luby's fan...until now!! I was reluctant to have lunch here but husband wanted some nostalgia. I'm so glad we did! Yum yum yum! We spent about 38 bucks but got A TON of food. And all of it was fresh tasting and delicious! And even though it's pretty much self-serve, the staff was super attentive and kept our teas full and table neat. Completely changed my view of the place!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Luby’s on E Anderson Lane is hands-down one of my favorite places to eat in Austin! The food is always fresh, hot, and comforting — just like a home-cooked meal. The chicken fried chicken is my all-time favorite — perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and smothered in the most delicious cream gravy. Every bite feels like Southern comfort at its best! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the service is fast even when it’s busy. I love the classic cafeteria setup where you can see all the options and customize your plate exactly how you want it. The veggies are always seasoned just right, and you can’t go wrong with their mac and cheese or mashed potatoes. Whether it’s lunch with coworkers, a casual dinner, or just craving some nostalgic comfort food, Luby’s never disappoints. I hope this Austin classic stays around forever — it’s truly a gem!
I'm a fan of Luby's. I like the same food. If I try something new I usually don't like it. It's cafe style food with a home cooked flavor. Kids eat free two days a week, one free kid per one adult. There's not that many left in town. Good food, great price and hopefully some good company. Choose your time carefully because Sundays are busy.
Only one of 2 Luby’s still open in Austin. Luby’s has been an iconic restaurant in Texas for over 75 years and it has stayed consistently good all that time. This Luby’s is especially well kept and their pride shows!! I would go there every week if I could. If you’ve never been take your family and make a great memory.
Not sure why people hate on this place. You ain’t getting fine dining for $9 😂. It’s a cafeteria style restaurant with a lot of options, plenty of seating, very good prices. When you walk in, you see so much fresh food, it feels homey, everything looks and smells good. You line up, grab a tray and utensils. Tell the staff what you want and your sides, grab your drinks and condiments, pay, sit down and eat. It is very full during lunch time, so schedule accordingly. I got the fried fish with the creamed spinach and mash potato and gravy, I also grabbed two jalapeños for additional charge. The food tastes good, it’s a very good portion size. I felt satisfied after my meal and would like to try different things next time! Total came out to be $10.58. I don’t think you have to tip but you can since they clean up.
I came by this location with my family for a sit-down dinner. We all ordered different items from the menu to include blackened tilapia, catfish, beef steak, and chicken tenders. We got a variety of sides such as beets, corn, french fries, rolls, salads, and spinach. Our server at the table was Dennis, who was friendly and efficient. He kept our table clean and our drinks filled. he brought napkins before we needed some and condiments before we could ask for them based on what he saw at our table. Each of our meals was pretty good and they were cooked to our liking and taste. when we walked into the restaurant initially there was one person at the salad bar and that's it. The lady at the salad bar yelled and pretty soon there were six people out on the line ready to serve our food and answer questions about the menu. I have not eaten at Luby's and a long time living in the Northeast Corridor, but I really enjoyed the first time back and coming to this location to have my first meal in this area. I would recommend this location.
As a frequent visitor to Luby’s, I can confidently say they’ve mastered the art of consistency. The service is always warm and attentive staff treat you like family, and they never miss a beat. The food? Comforting, flavorful, and reliably good every time. Whether it’s the classic LuAnn platter or a hearty helping of fried fish and mac & cheese, everything hits the spot. It’s the kind of place where you know what you’re getting, and that’s exactly why I keep coming back.
Food much better and fresher because of the holiday more people so they had to cook more often. I still like it. You get your money's worth. As expected slow because of the holiday. I had children's plate ground beef, mac/cheese,and mash potatoes. Al of it was delicious 😋 My mom enjoyed vegetable plate and she enjoyed it.
I have always liked luby's I consider them a Texas tradition. The food is good homestyle type cooking with a wide selection. The portion sizes are smaller and the prices are higher compared to past years like everything I guess. The only reason I don't give the food 5 stars is because of the cafeteria style setup if people ahead of you in line take too long by the time you sit down to eat your food is cold. I don't know if that's a food or a service issue. Well the atmosphere is comfortable it's unimpressive. Some of the servers and wait staff have been their years and people go just to see them and sit in their sections so that makes the experience unique.
The staff is nice, the food is good but the service is lacking once you sit down to eat. Waiting for someone to bring simple things like butter or hot sauce. If you help yourself to it, they get mad. How about you bring back the lady with the cart in the dinning room like it use to be. Its a CAFETERIA style, why should I tip someone who's not a waiter or waitress & does a horrible job Lubys go back how you use to be in the 1990s
Firts time here what a delicious food wowwww visiting from California wowww amazing cafeteria prices , taste , atmosphere family and I now we love lubys 📌📌📌📌📌📌we visiting on December,8 ,2025 at 7:00pm but this is the sad experience the lady I mean the cashier on Duty wowwww nasty 🤢 attitude orrible attitude He didn't talk to us, he didn't say hello to us, he didn't say hello, everything is fine wowww and an angry face, what an ugly human being, what unprofessionalism📌📌📌📌📌📌
This was a place on our bus tour and turned out to be a fine choice. There were plenty of food choices, and the buffet was well stocked. Staff was courteous and attentive to our requests. And the desserts! Omg, so many choices. I went with the beef tops over white rice, fried okra, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, a roll with jalapenos, and coconut cream pie. Staff helped some of the guests with getting the trays to the tables and were great about filling drinks and taking trays. They easily accommodated our bus loads with their regular guests too.
I ordered through door dash, because I didn't have a lunch break today, I ordered the lu ann fried fish, now when it comes to certain foods, there are things that automatically go with it, so when im getting ready to eat, I notice there is no tarter sauce, and I lost my appetite, and then I call the store to speak with a manager, and it told me to leave a voicemail. Thats ridiculous! Now I have cold food, spent money, and couldn't even speak to a manager.
I took my mom to Luby’s because it’s a place I grew up going to with my mom, my grandma, and my uncle. It has a lot of sentimental value for me, especially now that my grandma is no longer with us. Even though the food isn’t quite how I remember it, it’s still a place that brings back good memories, and I enjoy sharing it with my mom. We usually order the half fried fish with tartar sauce, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, an unsweet tea, and a wheat roll. I always ask for a little side of butter and extra lemons, and I prefer using a to-go cup instead of the regular cup just a personal preference. The food came out a little cool, and the line moved quickly, which is one thing Luby’s has always been good about. The crowd tends to be older, which fits the traditional cafeteria style atmosphere. The food itself doesn’t taste quite as good as I remember from my childhood, but some of that may just be nostalgia and changing taste buds over the years. Even so, it’s still a familiar and comforting place to share a meal with my mom. Overall, Luby’s is more than just a restaurant for me it’s a reminder of family memories, and I appreciate being able to return to it, even if the food isn’t exactly the same as I remember.
No. Horrible. They leave the food out to serve all day, so everything gets really mushy and not as fresh as everyone thinks it is. The Macaroni was watered down and had weird particles and the noodles were mushy due to how long it’s been sitting out. The steamed spinach tastes like actual dirt. Earthy. And dry. The desert it good. I honestly don’t know why it gets so packed. Disgrace. Is a way too pricy for this cafeteria food.
I want to start this off by saying this review is definitely not meant to be a sob story. I want to give context to the type of stress my family and I endured with Lubys this holiday. My family and I have gone to Lubys for YEARS. Like I grew up eating here. My family years ago would have Lubys catered for Thanksgiving for one side of my family for many years. This year, hugest mistake. One of my parents had recently been gone through 3 brain surgeries. My other parent was taking care of him. Therefore we didn’t have the bandwidth to cook and prepare for Thanksgiving. Naturally, I thought…why not cater Lubys!? We did! I placed the order about 2-3 weeks in advance. I never got an email saying my order was officially ready but I just went off the timeslot I chose, hoping it’d be ready. It was! Yay! When they brought out the turkey, I was MORTIFIED. We ordered the signature package which was to feed 10-12 people. I am not sure if one person is supposed to get ONE slice of turkey with that turkey or what. I’ll include a picture. The turkey was so small!!!!!!!!!! I spoke to the manager who advised their select package included the smallest turkeys. At the time, I did not realize I in fact ordered the largest package. I went back the next day to tell him only to be told, “you’d have to contact corporate. They choose the size.” I showed him a picture of the turkey they provided and asked how that was supposed to feed 10-12 people!? Again, I was told to contact corporate. It is now Thanksgiving day, my family is still recovering and 300+ later after sides, we have a small turkey to feed 10 people plus. We are grateful for the things we do have absolutely! I am just hoping this review saves others time and money and stress during the holiday season. Never again, Lubys. Huge disappointment.

Roxy Bar: Austin's Unexpected Comfort Food Haven
I’ve got to tell you about Roxy Bar, a spot in Austin that’s a bit of a curveball, but in the best way. You walk in, expecting a regular bar vibe, and while they certainly have that, there’s a whole other dimension here: their food operation. It’s got this unique, almost old-school cafeteria feel to how you get your grub, making it stand out from your typical bar bites.Folks absolutely rave about the variety.
