Drive from Northern Nevada to SoCal once or twice year. Whenever possible, we plan our trip so we get to Bishop around lunchtime. Can't go wrong with the brisket, tri-tip or pulled pork. I've also sampled all the "sidekicks", except the baked potato, and have enjoyed them, although they're not quite as good as the entrees. Overall, the best "fast food" on 395.
Delicious food, always hot and fresh. Friendly staff, plenty of seating and nice decor. Bathroom should be expanded especially for when this place is packed but I guess it works for them even though I've never been here when it wasn't packed and a line for the bathroom. Keep up the great work and keep serving that delicious bbq we all want!

Great brisket sandwich. Tender and flavorful. Spicy sauces too. Food takes 5-10 mins max to come out.
We stopped here on the way back from Mammoth instead of getting take out from McDonald's or something. Timing was perfect because it was just a few minutes before 11 when they opened (it was a Wednesday). I got the Spud Bud and, based on my choice of mac n cheese and potato salad, the server recommended the brisket. So, big baked potato stuffed with brisket and mac n cheese. To make eating this in the car easier, I opened it up in the restaurant and cut it up into easy chunks before we left, hence the photos. It smelled and looked amazing. And it was... SO GOOD!! Our group also got the cornbread, pulled pork sandwich, and the pigs in a blanket sausage sandwich with baked beans. Everyone loved their meals and we will definitely be back! Had tried other BBQ in the area that was super hyped up but enjoyed this a lot more. Definitely recommend! Bonus points for super clean bathroom, and for our to-go package being wonderfully packed up including plenty of napkins, extra sauce and the exact amount of cutlery needed (no more). Plus, I felt the prices were reasonable considering the portion sizes and effort involved. Thank you Holy Smoke! Edited post original review: Steve, Gentry says hi! :)
If your running through Bishop, ya need to stop here for some great BBQ. Prices about average. Great pulled pork and brisket southern style. Great sides as well. Can sit inside or out in the patio. Staff is very helpful and friendly. right next to Carl's jr and across the street from Schat's bakery .
Loved this place so much. The owner lady was extremely nice. We came in kinda late but she still fed us. The Mac and cheese is to die for. The Tri tip from the big bubba melts in your mouth. The cornbread is sweet and crumbly, but make sure you ask for extra butter. The sweet tea is phenomenal. I’m planning on coming back for lunch tomorrow :).
Overall good. Tried tri-tip, brisket, and 1/4 chicken. Although it wasn’t too much smokey, it was not greasy and fatty. A good balance of fat was of course in the meats but not greasy and felt very light after dining. The only down turn was the food was warm and not hot. I’d guess because of visiting them at 4 pm.
Seriously the best smoked tri tip I have ever eaten, and we make a point of trying different BBQs all across the country. Tender, super juicy, and oh so flavorful- it didn’t need any sauce, which they thoughtfully serve on the side. The coleslaw was also excellent, crisp and fresh tasting, not drowning in sauce and overly sweet. Cornbread was super too! All in all would highly recommend and will definitely stop again next time through. Oh and service was with a smile, helpful and informative!
My husband and I have service dogs. We were supported to stay by the staff, who stated they had a fear of dogs, even though we were willing to leave to avoid any undue stress to the employee. She exchanged places at the register with another employee and we ordered. Another couple of people came in with non-service dogs that immediately started barking uncontrollably at each other, they were asked if they were service and since they were uncontrolled they were asked to leave. The food was excellent. The service was exemplary. The atmosphere was very welcoming. I highly recommend❤️
Bishop CA store - Great Texas BBQ! I lived in Texas for almost 20 years. This is Texas BBQ. We had brisket, tri tip, mac n cheese & a baked potato. All were outstanding. And great people. Reasonable prices.
Simply must stop here when in Bishop. I’ve eaten here 2 or 3 times now and never got around to reviewing them. On my previous visits, I always ordered the sampler simply because I didn’t want to have to choose one meat. I believe I’ve been doing myself a disservice! This time I ordered the Longhorn with sides of beans and cornbread. That brisket is almost too tender. Delicious. They really care about their customers too.
Best Texas BBQ in this neck of the woods. The brisket was the best of our sampler platter. The sides dishes are just equally delicious as well. The potatoes salads has a different kick to it. The Mac n Cheese is da bomb. Burned melted gooey cheese on top. The next best part are the bbq sauces. Regular to burn your tongue degree is spiciness. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. Indoor and out door seating available. Extremely satisfied!
If you like Texas BBQ…this is the place for you! Absolutely delicious smoked meats. The servers checked in on us 3 times, they take great care of you there.
Ordered 1.5 lbs of brisket, cornbread, and the potato salad. The brisket was moist and tender. So delicious. Split it between 4 people and we could of easily eat another pound. The corn bread was a little dry, my friends didnt like it as much, but I don't mind it as much as everyone else. The potato salad had great season in and it didn't feel heavy. I really loved their ghost pepper BBQ sauce. It wasn't as spicy, but you did get a kick if you keep eating it. Also, amazing customer service. Everyone was so friendly and didn't hesitate to offer any help to me and my friends. Definitely coming back here every mammoth trip!!!
I hired them to cater my son’s wedding at the Bishop Park Group Campsight. They delivered and provided line service. The food was excellent and Steve and his team went way above and beyond. I couldn’t be happier and would recommend them to everyone!!!
Outstanding service. Staff was super friendly they even brought out a bowl of water for my dog. Food was amazingly good my favorite was the brisket, bbq beans and the corn bread . Too bad is 4 hours away from home or I’ll could be there every day.
The bbq is top notch! Tri-tip so delicious, perfect smoke. The chicken great flavor n very crisp. The cornbread sweet and moist too not crazy dry which is awesome. Coleslaw was phenomenal it’s not a vinegar taste it’s more the mayo slight sweet flavor. The Mac and cheese is creamy old fashioned and home made. The atmosphere is basic. It’s all about the bbq. Which is fine. Wasn’t found of being told Jesus loves me but hey the bbq is so good maybe Jesus does love me lol the hot bbq sauce n ghost pepper bbq sauce was five stars!
Delicious!! This is the first time my husband and I have eaten here and it was great!! I got the Spud Bud, a baked potato stuffed with pulled pork and topped with Mac and cheese. My husband got the sampler, brisket, ribs, and sausage. All of the meats were cooked perfectly and were super tender. I would definitely recommend trying this place out...hope I get to come back again.
what an amazing bbq place! stopped here on our drive home from mammoth and it did not disappoint! service was very friendly and the food came out within 5 minutes, the meat was so tender it fell apart when we grabbed it with a fork! mac n cheese was so flavorful and cheesy and the baked beans were sweet savory and smokey! will definitely make this a regular pit stop on our road trip
In my travels across America finding small town BBQ is something I enjoy. The regional styles are always interesting. Do yourself a great favor, ignore the whiny picky folks that always seem to look for reasons to review with unkind thoughts. This place rocks! Excellent BBQ with delicious sides and great service. It’s a 300 mile round trip for me, one that I will do many times over.
I’m Brazilian, and this was the first place where I ever tried mac & cheese, what a treat! So flavorful, creamy, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. The potato salad… wow, I wouldn’t change a thing, absolutely delicious. The steak was incredibly tender, literally melting, and the pork was just as amazing. The beers were great too. Such a pleasant surprise, this place is truly delicious!
How amazing is it to walk into the restaurant to find a gluten free menu posted for all to see!! No having to ask! Nice move. My wife had the spud bud with pulled pork (sorry no photo, food was too good to wait for me to get a photo), and I had the GF Ribs (not glazed), side of baked potato and salad. All of the sauces are gluten free and have great flavor (didn’t try the ghost pepper). The ribs were wonderfully done, great flavor and super tender. Highly recommend the baked potato with onions and cheese! The interior of the building is very cute with great decor. Staff was super helpful and attentive. We received several visits after we had our food to check on us and our meals. We will definitely be back for another visit.
Great BBQ joint in Bishop California, we tried the sampler and enjoyed everything we had. Prices were reasonable, quality and taste of food were good. This is just across the street from an amazing bakery so be sure to stop there after eating here. My only complaint would be that they play religious music inside the restaurant which I could certainly live without.
Stopped by on our way up to Mammoth Lakes and decided to stop by again going back. Both times, service was fast, and the food served was great. Nothing really stood out because all of the stuff (high on the hog ribs, sampler platter, BBQ big bubba, longhorn etc) we ordered were good, I guess the one I really liked were beans, corn bread, ribs and baked potatoes.

This is a must stop for us when headed home from CA & headed south to CA! Always great & very generous with the meat in their sandwiches! I personally love their baked beans

This places outstanding bbq. Coming up Hwy 395 we could smell the meat cooking. We have been coming to Bishop every year since 2005 and never stopped. Big mistake on my part. We'll be back soon.
Seriously, the best bbq ever! Melt in your mouth, full of flavor goodness! So glad that we didn't miss checking this restaurant out!

We drove up this last winter in 2020 to Mammoth. This place had a line but looked big enough to not one to long to wait. It was worth it. We did not wait that long at all. Had the hog heaven …
The BBQ is pretty good. It's definitely worth your time. I wish they had a more tangy cause in their selection. Spicy and Hot, Hot, Hot were not that spicy or hot. Ghost pepper sauce was definitely hot. But not too hot. Holy Smoke leans towards the sweeter side BBQ. I did like all the sauces. But I did want the Spicy and Hot to be more spicy and hot than they were. I had the sampler platter with the Spicy Sausage, ribs and brisket. The sides were Mac and Cheese, Baked Beans, and corn bread. The meats were all done very well and moist, not dry. The Mac and Cheese was very good. The baked beans were good but a little on the sweet side for me. And the corn bread was good but a little on the dry side.
Holy Smoke, little bit of Texas in Bishop, CA, offers up a variety of smoked meats. Sausage, chicken, brisket, tried tip, and pulled pork. Wife and I opted for the the sampler platter with choice of 3 meats (1/4 smoked chicken, tri-tip and brisket and 2 sides ( Cole slaw and a massive baked potato) all for $17.99. Great smoke flavor on all the meats. Chicken was super moist, tri-tip was on the dryer side and brisket was on the lean on the fat. (I like mine more moist with more fat, but that a personal preference). Only issue with the beef meats wa, I'm my opinion, the lack of salt. Again, a personal preference. The Cole slaw is is creamy with a splash of sweetness, while the baked potato is a meal in itself. Unlike some of the BBQ restaurants in Austin, TX the servers here bring the food to you, which I liked. Seating is bench style, which squeezes approximately 80 people or so? Parking spaces are limited and parking lot is cramped. Come give holy smokes a try whie in the ton of Bishop, CA.
The ribs and Mac and cheese were very good. Brisket and pulled pork disappointing, not very flavorful.
I loved the sides and cornbread here. The meat was satisfying. I’m a voracious eater after a long day of cycling or a lifting session. The portion for price was excellent but some of the meat - the pork and brisket in particular - lacked flavor and moisture. I would still return, perhaps for a sandwich.
Super friendly staff, outdoor seating, sweet tea, Brisket and cornbread. You can't go wrong with this place. I enjoyed trying out the California "Texas" BBQ. The only problem is that they weren't True to their name. Their sausage wasn't really smoked and we got a Baked potato with just Brisket and Mac n Cheese on it. I have never been to a texas BBQ place that does their baked potato that way. We didn't get any butter, sour cream, or cheese. Plus they didn't smoke their sausage properly so that's why I give them a 4 star. They did have really good Cornbread.
Having lived in Texas for four years, I know what good barbecue tastes like, and this place is close. Pork, Tri-Tip, and salad were all great. Brisket was overdone and sliced too thickly. Brisket is hard to do right- maybe it was just bad timing. The interior of the restaurant is very authentic and I'd go back again!
Very good food in a very low key place. The restaurant is nothing fancy with concrete floors and very simple tables but often those are the best BBQ places. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The sodas are self serve. The service was fast and friendly but we did beat the evening rush. The corn bread and Mac and cheese were excellent sides and the potato salad was good. The ribs were also excellent and the half rack was seven ribs, which is more than usual. The quarter chicken was good but a little dry. With tax, tip and drinks, plan on spending at least $30 per person and more if you get the bigger meals. The parking lot is tight so if you have an extra big vehicle you may want to park elsewhere, it is the same way in and out with limited ability to turn around.
After going for a hike and visiting the train museum we decided to stop here to get some barbecue. The meat was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The bread on the sandwich was fresh and soft. The cornbread was one of the best cornbreads I have ever had. There really is no complaints about this place.
Finally, a great Bbq place. Ribs, brisket, pork bbq are phenomenal! This owner must be from Texas or the south. Just wish customer service was better. They all seem to have a hi-hum attitude. But, long as the food is good I guess isn’t bad.
While I have been adding reviews I stopped when COVID-19 came around because a big part of the dining experience is the ambience. But we also need to know how they are handling during this time. This is my first COVID-19 restaurant review. Walk-in, order and wait outside, masked and properly socially distanced. The food came quickly. Meaning it is all prepared and just needs to be assembled. I opted for the Sampler plate, not a sandwich. Though I am certain their sandwiches would be very good. The three meat I chose were tri-tip, brisket and ribs. My favorite was the tri-tip because it was spot-on tender and tasteful. I was happy they included both a spicy and standard bbq sauce but I would suggest if you like spicy to ask about it as these both were more sweet than hot. Don’t get me wrong, I ate and enjoyed the brisket and the ribs too. My sides were mac and cheese and coleslaw. The dinner included a generous piece of cornbread and honey and was very good. The flavor of the cornbread was good with nothing on it. The coleslaw was standard faire and the mac and cheese had savory cheese and sufficient baked crunch topping. Nothing seemed over salted or seasoned, relying on the bbq sauce, so make sure you have enough and if the correct heat amount. And enjoy! They were very nice, professional and casual. I would recommend this place while in Bishop. It cost me about $20 for dinner which I took back to my hotel to eat. It is much nicer to eat in the establishment because remember you have to clean up after yourself back at the hotel! Such is life.
The portions and price meet at a pretty good spot. Overall, the food is good, the service is great (fast!). Read on for more deets. You order at the counter, get a receipt and drinks, and sit down. They bring your food out quickly, so there isn’t a lot of waiting. The brisket is pulled apart meat instead of slices. We ordered The Steer (brisket sandwich), The Hog (pulled pork sandwich), and the Spud Bud (baked potato, beans, brisket) and also had Mac and Cheese and coleslaw as sides. Both the pork and brisket were tender, juicy, not overly seasoned, and flavorful. The rolls for the sandwiches were good. The Mac and Cheese is buttery, but good. The coleslaw is okay. The bbq sauces are generally sweet. They have four options. Neither the hot or spicy are all that hot, but the ghost will give you a kick.
Very good ribs and a nice variety of barbecue sauce from mild to flaming. Love their mac and cheese since it's baked style and very rich. During prime hours it can be difficult to get a table and there is no full table service. To go is a good option in that case and not a bad idea to order a full rack to have some the next day. I always stop in at Holy Smoke whenever I get to Bishop
Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - ordered whole rack of ribs. The two portions were very different in tenderness with the first being melt-in-the-mouth good and the second portion being just okay. It was well seasoned and they provided extra BBQ sauce which is much needed for the flavoring. Definitely a messy meal! Service: 5/5 - quick service and quoted us accurate time for wait. Ambiance: n/a - ordered food to go. Value for price: 4/5 - glad that the menu they had inside provided an option for just the protein without sides. At just under $33 with tax, it's reasonable in price especially how much more expensive the other dining options are.
All in all, pretty tasty BBQ. Parking is available on the side and behind the restaurant, but it is somewhat limited...maybe 10-12 spaces, and it can be tight exiting so large vehicles may want to park on the street. I visited on a Friday early evening after skiing at mammoth. The crowd was near 100% out of town folks such as myself with what appeared to be 3-4 regulars trickling in while I was there. I had the chopped brisket sandwich, side of coleslaw and a beer, and cost was about $25. The sandwich is $20 after taxes. The meat was tender and flavorful, but I would have liked for more of a smoke flavor to pull through the meat, and perhaps next time I'll try the tri-tip. The tables are community style sit where you can find a seat, the wait staff is pretty prompt and busing tables, and each table has paper towels, salt, pepper and 4 BBQ sauces for self use.
The place is charming and the location is perfect. They do have alot of signs posted about not sitting until you have a ticket which makes sense for the first come mindset. The service was good and the food cost was about the average you would pay for BBQ. My brisket was tender. I did not care to much for the baked beans. The flavor was good it was just the texture and the same for the potato salad. The food is filling even if the portions seem small its a good size. I will definitely go back to try more of thier menu options next time im passing through.
Holy Smokes! You can find good BBQ in small towns in the eastern Sierras. Good BBQ is a challenge. Some just wanna grab a slab, toss it on the grill, or smoke the heck out of it and serve it up. Then there's those who take the time to Q the right way. Holy Smoke Texas Style BBQ is the real deal. It even looks like a Roadside BBQ shack. You can smell the smoker from the street, so you're drawn in. Once inside, the decore is patriotic and all Texas-American red, white and blue. Don't salute too soon though, they don't offer military discounts. The line was long, yet efficient. Some of the sides we wanted weren't available. We all ordered a variety of dishes. Overall, the meat is good, yet a little too smoky at times. We had to drown most of our meat in BBQ sauce -- which was not labeled accurately. Corn bread was nearly like pound cake, and the tri tip won the meat preference. BBQ is a tough niche, which is why there aren't many BBQ joints around. Just be careful and descriptive about what you order at Holy Smoke Texas Style BBQ, otherwise you'll end up cooked.

I wish I could rate 4.5 out of 5, they just can’t make a perfect 5. Staff were awesome, knowledgeable and friendly. wait time was practically zero. Variety was good and flavor was very good.…
I ordered dinner to-go from here and it was average. I ordered over the phone and they waited until I got there to pay to make my order which wasn't an issue as my order was ready in about 5 mins. Problem though was since they have everything made and sitting there my food was barely warm. Overall taste of everything was good but average, nothing to write home about. Also the lady on the phone who was the same as behind the counter wasn't pleasant to deal with and just seamed grumpy.
Good food and it comes out very quick. I’m only giving it 3 stars because of the service. The old tall Caucasian lady was very rude, going around yelling at all the customers over everything. She literally complained about not leaving a tip on the credit card, immediately after ordering at the counter. Tips are for service and provided after receiving good service, but people like her are not worthy of anything. We tipped the sweet young girl who was cleaning the tables for her service. Here’s your tip Karen: if you don’t like customer service, go get yourself a new job.
This was my 1st visit here. We stopped on the way back from Lake Tahoe. They are doing their part with social distancing with COVID-19 so only 2 parties can come in and order at a time regardless if you are dining in or ordering to go. It was 101 degrees outside and the staff is very relaxed and slow moving. So I waited in line outside in the heat for a good 15 mins and I was ordering to go. I ordered 2 sampler platters that was $20 each. It came with 3 meats, 2 sides and corn bread. They also give you mild bbq sauce and spicy bbq sauce.. The absolute best thing to me was the corn bread. The ribs I had were attached but somehow one was well seasoned and delicious while the 2nd one was the opposite. How is that possible? My husband had the same experience. The tri-tip was good, the pulled pork was okay, the mac n cheese and beans were delicious and the potato salad was meh. Their links are good but very salty. I'm glad I gave it a try but would only have corn bread and Mac n cheese if I stopped by here again.
Tried the sampler platter and left pretty disappointed. The brisket was dry, the chicken chewed like leather, and the sausage tasted straight off a grocery store shelf. If this is Texas BBQ, I must’ve missed the memo—because I walked out anything but satisfied
Although the food tasted pretty good (3 or 4 stars), I expected larger serving sizes for the price paid ($27 excl tax for sampler platter) and the 2 sides it came with were very small. It felt like it wouldn’t cost them much to at least make the sides a bit more generous. The food came out very quickly after ordering although we waited a while in line to order.
We split the combo platter with brisket and ribs and it was plenty of food for 2 people. The ribs were so tender, the meat just feel off of the bone. It really was as good as the reviews. But a couple of things about this place left us a little uncomfortable. First, the woman that was serving the plates of food had taken an order outside to a table, came back in, paused at the trash can and then began tamping the trash down. Now, I can't say for sure that she didn't wash her hands, but it only took her a moment to get a couple more plates of food to serve to another table. Second, I strongly believe that everyone should feel free to practice any or no religion that they please. However, the Christian music that is being played at this restaurant is so loud that it's difficult to hold a conversation. And I'm just assuming that there was a problem with the playlist since the same song was set to auto play over and over and over again, until we finally finished and left...
First time trying Holy Smoke BBQ its pretty good but not my favorite. I ordered the sampler with brisket, tri-tip,spicy sausage, corn bread, coleslaw & bbq beans. What I really liked is the brisket, tri-tip,bbq beans and corn🌽bread. I prefer Santa Maria style bbq tri-tip and there's was cooked more like a brisket and a little chewy. Beans are sweet with brisket and the corn 🌽 bread was moist, the coleslaw I believe was mayo based not vinegar based with good flavor, sausage was just ok.
The food was pretty overpriced for how much you got and how bland it was. The bbq sauces were not any good and it was better on its own, even with no salt or seasoning. The Mac was the best part of the meal. It all did come out near instantly too. The girls working there were really nice but the atmosphere was weird. Lots of unwelcoming signs like, if you order take out do not eat here (weird?) And do not sit down before ordering food, do not save seats. As a non-local it felt very uninviting, if this is a local problem i would try to address it without compromising the atmosphere
Overall I wouldn’t give more than a 3 star experience. The platter was okay. The meat was mostly tender but the sides were almost laughable in a container slightly bigger than what the sauce came in. For 28$ it is absolutely not worth it for how little meat and sides there are. The Mac and cheese is okay at best, doesn’t taste baked at all, and the beans were either under cooked, or al dente. Either way not appetizing. The sauces were pretty decent for not being that spicy, but if you like spice the ghost pepper is the only one you get a big spice kick from, but it tastes like it’s made with jelly which ruins the meat flavor. The cornbread is pretty good and the half chicken for 14$ was surprisingly good. Not sure if it was because we got the platter, but it’s shown larger sides for other people here in their reviews, but for 28$ I would hope we would be granted a larger side for the price. There was also a staple in my for which I do not believe to be their fault, but it was interesting to say the least. The servers were all kind and nice though. Overall, probably won’t recommend or come back, I would rather drive to big pine for copper top or find something else. Unfortunately disappointing experience for 100$.
Restaurant Review for Holy Smokes BBQ – Bishop, California Fun little place with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The barbecue was good—solid but not quite stellar. We both ordered the brisket sandwich with macaroni and cheese on the side. The portions were satisfying, and everything was served hot and fresh. Service was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. If we return, we’ll definitely try something different on the menu—there looks to be some promising options worth exploring. Overall, a pleasant stop for a casual BBQ meal in Bishop.
Really torn. The ribs were great, but the tritip was bland, and the pulled pork was wet and weirdly sweet. The BBQ sauce was sweet, it sweet with vinegar and cayenne pepper. The beans were greasy, but also really sweet. Some people probably really enjoy the overly sweet thing but it's just not my style.
ambiance: 4/5 Staff Friendliness: 4/5 Location: 5/5 Food: 2/5 Tri Tip: dry Cornbread: tasted like it was 2 days old Mac N Cheese: 3.5/5 Not the worst place in bishop but definitely not the b…
Poor service and sub-par "Texas" barbeque. We dined in and ordered a pound of brisket, pound of sausage, pint of mac and cheese, and small beans. We waited for close to thirty minutes while watching multiple tables get their food that came in after us get their food. Numbers were getting yelled out while not a peep being said about our number. I finally went up to the counter and it turns out our food was just sitting in the back getting cold Even though our ticket said dine-in our food was wrapped up to go. As a native central Texan who has been in California for over 15 years and smokes their own brisket regularly because good brisket is hard to come by, this BBQ was below mediocre and associating it with Texas is a near tragedy. Nary a smoke ring to be found. All our brisket came from the point or as they say in Texas "moist" which is a nice way of saying fatty. It was untrimmed and i would say 1/3 of the meat by weight was fat. The sausage was tasteless. Mac and cheese cold and bland. Truly disappointed they are calling this Texas BBQ. definitely not Franklins, Blacks, Stubbs, County Line, Salt Lick, Kreuz, or Smittys quality. Also, they have their POS system set up to make you go through the tip menu with the defaults at 15%, 20%, and 25%. As someone who worked in food service in my younger days i as always tip at counter service restaurants. I tipped 15% on the $85 order for a place where you order at the counter, get your own drinks, and apparently go find out where your food is after it sits in the back for over twenty minutes getting cold. Maybe i should rethink my habit of tipping in places like this
The only thing texas about this was it in the name. Ordered brisket and asked for moist. They said maybe. What I got was steamed lean brisket which was watery and devoid of anything smokey. I also ordered a combo plater with sausage, pork & chicken. No smoke ring on any meats but the chicken had smoke favor as did the sausage. Sides were the best part.
Pretty much just an average place. Pretty expensive, like $50 for two with small drinks. Food was okay, I got "The Steer" and my partner got "The Longhorn". My gf is from Texas and said it just doesn't represent Texas BBQ. I had somewhat high hopes based on the ratings this place had. Also a notable qualm I had about them was when I went back to the counter to ask for a to go box, no one was there at the counter. They were in the kitchen talking so I gave it a few minutes to see if they would come back out and then I even called into the kitchen but got no response so that was kind of annoying. Got my box after waiting for a pretty unreasonable amount of time but I wouldn't come back here. Pretty disappointing.
I stopped by at the end of the day during a festival weekend so they were out of chicken, ribs, tri tip, potatoes and something else I can't remember. I wanted to get the 3 item combo but they only had 1 item I wanted. I will be stopping by next time I go by. I stopped by when next in Bishop, the smoked chicken was dry and lacked any flavor, I think they just cook it on the grill. I split an item and I am uncertain if they charge you for a 'plate' or not, buyer beware. Mac'n'cheese was good, potato salad was not. Unlikely to return for quality combined with price paid. Restrooms are fine. Decent parking, easy to find, right on the 395. Parking, entrance, counter and seating are accessible.
Ordered the sample platter for takeout really small portions, I offered to pay for corn bread , I was told it comes with the platter , however I did not receive any cornbread and it was takeout so I was driving and on the road when I realized. No napkins was given , just felt so messy
Worst part of our visit to Bishop. Westwood in line so long waiting to order that we watched all the items we really wanted crossed off the big menu. Had the bad luck of sitting near the speaker. The music blasted off and on in an increasingly static and annoying way. The baked beans were under-baked, and they were stingy with the butter for the potato. The mac and cheese, pulled pork, and tri-tip were good; not great. The sweet tea wasn’t sweet. Really disappointed.
Hefty prices for good portions of bland food. Everyone in our group had some complaint about the food: brisket was super dry and bland, pork was too smoky, potato had no flavor and was chalky (starchy), and the Mac n cheese was oddly mushy with chunky cheese. For $38, I ordered one small fountain drink cup (unlimited free refills) and two Spud Buds each with no slaw, two orders of Mac n cheese inside, and brisket. They were out of beans, so I couldn’t add those in. The only thing that was tasty was the Mac n cheese, but like I mentioned it was chunky cheese. Potato and brisket were dry and bland. I tried using their sauces to make it more flavorful, but they were all just variations of barbecue sauce with varying spice levels. The bottles said Regular, Spicy, Hot, and Ghost Pepper, so I thought they may have been buffalo sauces of the sort but they were all just barbecue sauce variants. Everyone else in my group kinda felt “eh” about the food. Nothing extraordinary by any means. So I’m giving 2 stars primarily because of the food, but the service was a bunch of young near-teens that seemed like they didn’t wanna be there lol. Gluten free options are offered. No military discount offered. Atmosphere was alright—cool decorations and signs around with plenty of seating which was nice. There was also plenty of parking outside as well. For bathrooms: there’s one door that leads to a single-person restroom separately for men and women. Overall, I’d never choose this place again due to the lacking taste of food that’s surprisingly expensive. Barbecue should be juicy, messy to eat, and filling! This was almost tasteless :/
BBQ decent, has indoor seating. Had tri-tip with sides, sides decent tri-tip did not have loads of flavor, BBQ sauce was good. Employees appear to treat customers different, with our 5 party group up next to order I was not allowed to sit down until we had a ticket, that was ok for a different group after us - same employee both times. Cashier lovely with customers in front of us, a family, then offput with us, seems because we were not ordering swiftly enough.
Pretty unfulfilling experience. The price of the food was incredibly high considering the low quality and sad presentation. The chicken in the chicken platter was sadly dry, and I find their practice of topping their hot baked potato spud bud with cold cole slaw questionable. The service staff were very friendly and helpful, atmosphere was solid, but the bathroom was pretty dirty and unkept.
Hurts to say it because the staff (when we finally got their attention) were friendly and helpful, but this is genuinely the worst barbecue I think I've ever had. \n\nAfter a long day of skiing, I …

Soggy bun, and could not pick up the beef burger at all. Side dish, (Mac n cheese) under cooked and tasted bad, super disappointing . Also over priced. Would never go back.

Completely over priced, the quality and quantity was definitely not worth it, the food was extremely dry, dry, dry and the young girls behind the counter had funky attitudes, not friendly at all. I’m very disappointed with myself for wasting my money and time here.😝😝😝 the good reviews had me fooled.
Unfortunately we were quite excited about this BBQ place as we were getting out of the smoke due to fires and trying to celebrate a friends birthday camping...while the brisket was good...and sauces too...the chicken as you can see was charred and quite dry! Staff were great...unless they step up thier game on food prep cannot recommend or come back when we travel thru....such a disappointment.
Fine food. Expensive for the portions. Weird atmosphere. Signs telling not to sit until ordered and not to sit to eat if ordered take out. So weird and unfriendly. We (my wife, young kids and I - who are hikers) were told we smell and to sit outside on the patio in the wind after we ordered (the restaurant indoors had plenty of space - we were third in line). This is the only establishment I have *ever* been in as a hiker where I have been told to sit outside.
Not friendly place for handicapped, pregnant, babies. I was carrying a baby in my arms while my husband was in line to buy the food also with a toddler, so I made the horrible mistake to sit down while my husband was 1 customer away to order our food. When the waitress came with a horrible attitude saying that couldn't sit down without a ticket. They pretty much kicked us out like we were doing something so horrible. They couldn't wait 1 minute. They didn't care i had a baby in my arms and another little kid. The way they treated us was very bad. I don't think we will ever go there.
Got the sampler of Tri-tip, Pulled Pork, and Chicken. Everything is dry (see plenty of other comments) needs to be covered in barbecue sauce to be palatable.
Horrible service, visited Oct 3, 2025 about 4:12pm. We visited the restaurant and stood at the order taker desk to order. It was quiet, so no one else was there to order. It was our first time, so I didn't know the menu very well, so I discussed it with my wife. The woman taking our order was very rude and mean. I spoke slowly because I was not sure what I order. She didn't tell us to hurry up, but she got annoyed while taking our order. After we finished, we paid in cash, but she couldn't calculate right amount of the change. So she overcharged several dollars. After observing closely, it seemed like she didn't do this to everyone, but only to certain people, especially those who didn't speak English well or speak slowly, which made me think she was discriminating. My parents have been running a restaurant for a long time, so this kind of thing is a management issue with employee education and training. It's very disappointing, and I think it's a management issue that allows employees to serve customers whatever they want their own way without any control. I hope this restaurant will change soon better.
I am extremely upset by how I was treated at this restaurant. When I arrived, the owner first told me that my service dog could not stay in his carrier and asked me to put him on the ground. I followed her instructions immediately. Less than a minute later, while my dog was quietly lying on the floor and not bothering anyone at all, she came back and told me to leave. She said she has a personal trauma related to dogs, but that does not justify asking a customer with a service dog to leave—especially after I complied with everything she told me to do. My dog is a 5-pound Yorkie, extremely well-behaved, and was doing absolutely nothing. The way this was handled felt incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. I was singled out and made to leave for no valid reason, which was both embarrassing and upsetting.
Unfortunately ended up here because many other places were closed on Monday. Let me start by saying the service was friendly food was fast. Got a combo plate with ribs, brisket and chicken (dark meat). It was only 6:00 but everything was way overcooked. The ribs had such a hard crust on one side it was inedible and the chicken was very dry. Everything needed sauce but all the sauces are sweet. Side salad was literally a bowl of lettuce with 3 cucumber slices and the baked potato was super dry as well. I love potato skin but not this one. I would not eat here again. Too many other places in town. I would have taken a picture but we were with friends.
The second my party walked in the mood of the hostess became sour. They were every impatient while we were ordering and demanding tip almost immediately which left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was bland with no seasoning at all but at least it was easy to go down.
We were a big party (8 to be exact). We placed our order and had a seat at the table. Five minutes later the owner approached us. She told us we were a big party and this place was not McDonalds. She did say we were going to like her food however what was so unnecessary was the following comment she made that we had to tip. We are very grateful and hard working people that appreciate good service. We always tip very generously before we leave any restaurant without the need to be reminded. She walked away from our table leaving us stunned. I left the restaurant with a bad impression of this place and the owner. As good as the food was I will not be coming back. She said this wasn't McDonalds but her behavior and education doesn't compare to a McDonalds employee. I get better service there.
Walking into this restaurant was immediately uncomfortable. An older woman working there accidentally stepped on a dog, which started whimpering — instead of showing concern, she yelled at it, saying, “I SAID SORRY!” That same woman ended up taking my order. When my friend (a white male) ordered before me, she was extremely friendly and polite, so I figured maybe she was just having a rough moment. But as soon as it was my turn (I’m Hispanic), her tone completely changed. She was short, impatient, and rude throughout the interaction. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and she snapped, “Are you going to hurry up and order your side?” I politely apologized and asked for her recommendation between the pulled pork or chopped beef. She replied dismissively, “They’re both good — you still need to pick a side.” I chose mac and cheese, but at that point she seemed done engaging with me. She didn’t ask whether I wanted dine-in or takeout, nor did she offer any sauce options like she did for the customers before and after me. Instead, she automatically added ranch — who eats ranch with BBQ? The couple behind me (also white) received warm, friendly service and full attention, which made the contrast even more obvious. The whole interaction felt uncomfortable and frankly, discriminatory. Unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for the experience either. Everything was bland and served lukewarm, including the mac and cheese — which somehow managed to have zero flavor. It’s hard to ruin mac and cheese, but this place found a way. Between the poor attitude, inconsistent treatment, and lackluster food, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of places that serve better BBQ and treat all customers with respect.
Used to be one of my favorite spots after long hours of hiking. I can only assume they hire a less experienced pit master. - Brisket Brisket I had today has no juice, just dry, chewy, cold thick piece of meat. I had to use knife to cut it. They didn't trim excess fat properly. There is no dry rub left on top of the meat and no visible smoke ring. I've never experienced brisket without dry rub on top. Temperature of the meat is way below room temp, almost cold. They cut the meat so thick. Disappointing.
