Open Range

I had the most amazing experience at this restaurant last night. The bartender (Beck) who was my server was absolutely amazing and kept solid recommendations coming throughout the meal I had with my friend. We shared the special, a perfectly seared and seasoned 28 day aged 32 oz Tomahawk ribeye with fingerling red potatoes and olive oil asparagus. To start I had a Bleu cheese wedge salad that was wonderful, crisp and fresh, and the suggested wine pairing given was also decadent and delicious. Key lime pie that was acidic yet sweet and obviously made with attention with a graham cracker crust topped it off. The setting and ambiance of the restaurant was nice as well. This is for sure the best steak I've had since I came to town, and could be one of the better ones I've had ever. The service made it all the more awesome. Thanks Beck!

Had a great meal here. One can’t tell from the front, but there is a large covered deck out the back. On a whim I gave the alcoholic punch a try, it was a good decision. Although I was a single diner I was treated nicely. The restaurant is very large inside. The menu has many creative dishes and I was pleased they came up with a side of vegetables for me when the veggie of the day was sold out.

I can't say enough about the incredible quality of the food here! Everything was melt-in-the-mouth delicious, from the ribs appetizer, the salad, to the steak frites, the pork chops, and the star of our dinner - the Tomahawk bison steak. Of course, the desserts were all great as well! Our waiter, Doug, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, giving educated opinions on the different drinks and discussed the origins of the options with us, as well as giving opinions and suggestions on the menu. He was attentive but not overbearing, and very friendly. Overall, this was a phenomenal place for a night out to treat ourselves, and on par with anything I've eaten in Boston or Baltimore.

The food here is divine ♡ we ate there twice. The blackened salmon soup is so yummy and so was the duck. The Irish coffee was really good. Friendly staff and inviting atmosphere.

This place is amazing. Had the barbeque smoked pork belly for a starter, a bison tomahawk ribeye and then dessert. Everything was perfect, perfectly cooked, amazing flavor. This is a must when in Bozeman! One of the best restaurants that I've ever eaten in, food atmosphere, service and the look of the place itself was all amazing.

Quality experience. Early reservation for dinner due to an early morning the next day. Server was excellent and helpful. We order 2 dinners and an appatuzer to share between three of us. Bison steak was incredible. Think cut bacon didn't disappoint. The waygu steak melted in your mouth. Complimented by perfectly prepared carrots, salad and fries. Dessert menu wasn't quite our style but it fit their unique focus. We would recommend reservations.

SO GOOD! We started with the Bison Tartare, we each then had a side salad. I had the Salmon for my entree, my husband had the Beef Filet with frites. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! One of the best meals I’ve ever had! We both had dessert as well, cheesecake and oatmeal cookie. If I am ever lucky enough to get back here I would probably skip dessert. The dessert was good though, just not a must.

This is one of the best places for a dinner only restaurant. You will not leave famished if you get a entree here. The steak 🥩 was so thick! Cooked to just the way I asked for. The appetizers were great as well. We ordered the creme brulee and it was ravenous. Again, you won't go wrong if you eat here.

Best dining experience I have ever had!! Top notch service and the food was out of this world. I have never had a ribeye with so much flavor. 100/10 would recommend!!

I came here by myself for a solo birthday dinner & I was SO pleased with Open Range. I had the beef cheeks bourguignon with double mash instead of the brussels. I cannot brag on the staff here enough!! Knowing that I was new to town I was given great recommendations for the area and even groups to join. My waitress was sweet enough to box my things and send me home with a sweet note on the dessert. Good environment, great food!

What an amazing dinner! My son never eats soup but this night, he wanted soup and it came with his meal. He absolutely loved it! The salad was pretty terrific too, I could smell the balsamic before the plate hit the table! At first I thought I wanted different side dishes but everything was paired perfectly! We were there for a special occasion and they made our evening feeling exactly as such, very special!

Brandon and Carissa were an excellent duo on their execution of the tasting menu tonight. All five courses and their subsequent pairings were thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend this experience. Robert Charlock

What a wonderful surprise! My wife and I were just visiting from Vegas to Yellowstone, and decided to walk along Main Street, made a few stops for various happy hour treasures, then stopped in here for the $2.50 MARTINI (Wed, 3-5pm only)I!! That was the first surprise! Then we came in to the lovely, welcoming environment and grabbed a bar menu filled with lots of reasonably priced treasures, including 50% off burgers (with fries). The biggest surprise was the very personable, accommodating and charming bartender/server, Jaclyn! So do yourself a favor and discover the dual serendipity of this restaurant and Jaclyn! You'll be glad!

What an incredible evening. Great food! Great atmosphere! The staff were all very engaging. Our server, Sam, couldn’t have been better. The hostess, Meg, went out of her way to make us feel at home!

My fiancée and I had an awesome time at Open Range. Our server, Wyatt, was excellent and timely with everything. He was also a great conversationalist. The ribeye and filet were both some of the best steaks we’ve had in years. We will definitely be coming back.

Came in and got a few appetizers. The brie was recommended by our AMAZING server, Shelby. We had such a great time and we owe it to the amazing service provided! Definitely coming back again!

I really enjoyed eating here. The steak I got was delicious. Shelby, our server took great care of us and made the whole experience great. The place has a comfortable vibe and you can tell they actually care about their customers.

I had a magical night at Open Range! My server, Emily, was incredible. Best burger in town without a doubt. Very inviting atmosphere! If I could move in and live at open range, I would. If open range was a person, I would propose.

Solid steakhouse. Great location. Cocktails were very good. The dry age steaks had a great flavor, but lacked tenderness. All around good experience.

What a kind and generous restaurant owner and staff for providing a free meal and drinks for veterans on Veterans Day. We were treated like royalty and provided generous portions of fabulous food. The Wagu steak was so flavorful and perfectly prepared, fresh and tasty salad, refreshing drinks, and perfect cheesecake to top off the meal. Everyone was so kind and we were especially blessed to have Julia as our server. Thanks again for your support of veterans.

We loved this place so much we went twice in the week we stayed in Bozeman. The food was great and they fry in tallow so we enjoyed their amazing fries. The service was outstanding both nights we went (one of which was Valentines). Julia was a fabulous server and fantastic host on our second night in. I highly recommend Open Range for date night or just a good burger and fries.

A unique atmosphere displaying a wide open floor plan and a multitude of dog photos adorned the walls. The menu has a good variety. We had the dry aged tomahawk steak, lobster mac, Brussel sprouts, lobster bisque, wedge salad and Caesar, and a baked brie. The food was very good with a few minor critiques. The bisque was a little bitter and over salted but full of lobster bites. The highlights for my palette were the Caesar Salad and the tomahawk steak. Service was excellent, but the restaurant was not very busy, probably due to the high price tag required to eat here.

Fantastic food. Steak was perfect and the bison cheeks were melt in your mouth. The service was streaky. Weird little things like no steak knife on the table for when my 80$ steak was served, I had to ask for one. The coffee I ordered was cold. No one refilled waters even once. It just felt odd for a place that presents itself as it does.

13 dudes walked through a completely empty Open Range to a Hogwartz-like table in the back, as this was *the* dinner for the bachelor party. I was seated at one of the heads, and immediately absorbed my surroundings. The first thing I picked up on was a Tshirt hanging in the kitchen that had Trump's Mugshot with the text "Wanted... For President." The 2nd thing I picked up on was our waitress looked straight out of the Renaissance. She looked just like the Mona Lisa, but with a modern twist. I'm really shy, but after a negroni or 2, I told her as much. I thought it was a compliment, but I don't think she really appreciated it. I know she went back to the kitchen and took a good hard look at a picture of the Mona Lisa on google images, because she came back and said "The Mona Lisa is NOT cute..." I jabbed back with "It's literally the most valuable portrait ever painted..." My homie, who the group knows as "The Rizzler," chimed in with a "You're like if the Mona Lisa was extremely beautiful..." He proceeded to ask her to be his date to the wedding, but she is in a very happy relationship. Shooters shoot though and he stays shooting turn-around fades over the double team. You can't help but respect that. After we all went around the table saying kind/not so kind words about the Bachelor, we put in our orders. I went with the 16oz Beef Ribeye ($72) because I'm a beast. Diesel, one of the groomsmen who I met on this trip, asked if they had a burger to which Mona said "No, I'm sorry..." Diesel whispered to me in a genuinely curious, yet slightly embarrassed tone "Is a Ribeye good? I've never had one." I held back my internal thoughts of "BRO YOU'VE NEVER HAD A RIBEYE!?!?!?" as he proceeded to confide in me that he had the palate of an 8 year old, but wanted to expand his taste. I told him he had to pull the trigger on the Ribeye. The food came and as I sat there thinking this ribeye was the poster child for a 7.5/10, Diesel grabs my arm while smiling from ear to ear and says while still chewing "Bro oh my god, this is legit the best steak I've ever had in my life." I love the Diesels of the world, genuinely happy to experience new things in life that I take for granted. We are all on our own journeys through life. We were in here for about 2 and a half hours total, ripping wine, negronis, coors lights, espresso martinis, and some 7.5/10 Ribeyes. Open Range is steakhouse in the middle of Main street in downtown Bozeman. The outside appearance fits the bill with a beautiful brick facade equipped with a sign that shows a silhouette of a steer. Inside it is simple, clean and more casual than I expected. In all fairness, downtown Bozeman is a very cool, casual college town. The servers are very friendly and their attire is straight from the 90's with oversize white button down shirts and slightly baggy jeans. I loved it. We ordered cocktails and they were very good and poured well. The menu is simple and easy to navigate. We were a group of 7 and they sat us at a high table with high chairs. We all had the tenderloin, a very popular choice there. It took EXTREMELY long for us to get our food and when it came it was nearly cold. However, the meat was good quality and was still buttery in your mouth considering the temperature. The veggies that accompanied our protein were delicious as well. Ultimately the great service and quality of food overshadowed my long wait and temp of my meal. I also feel that the pricing of the dishes are high for such a casual ambiance and experience.

I really enjoyed my bison filet with the potato puree. The beef cheek bourgignon was very good too. The salads were large in size. The staff was very nice.

Satisfying meal, but the atmosphere left a bit to be desired. The interior of the restaurant is giant and feels more like a warehouse space with tables than an upscale steakhouse. Of course, the steak was excellent and service was attentive, but Open Range doesn’t quite offer the classy experience one may expect from the most expensive steakhouse in Bozeman.

Steakhouse experience had its ups and downs – food was okay, comparable to NYC prices. For the price, i rate the food a 3; however, the saving grace? $2.50 cosmos, dry, and dirty martinis – absolutely amazing! Need i say more? Bartender provided excellent service and spot-on recommendations for places to explore. Cheers to the cocktails and bartender's hospitality!

service was awesome- everyone was so kind. the side portions are huge. the food was good, I had the salmon and the bison tartare.

We dined at Open Range on Christmas Eve and had a great time. I was a little hesitant to make a reservation since past reviews seem to be a hit or miss. But, my husband and I decided to bite the bullet. There aren't many options for Christmas Eve dining in town anyway. Our waitress, who seemed to also be one of the bartenders was very sweet. We sat close to the entrance so we got a little cold when the front doors opened but it wasn't bad overall. The interior was very cute and inviting. We ordered way too much food but I'll break it down dish by dish... • Lemon Drop: Worth every penny. I wish I had more in a glass. • Bone Marrow: Not bad. It could have used a tad more seasoning but the sourdough bread definitely helped elevate the flavor. I wish the bread was toasted but no big deal. • French Onion Soup: Delicious! My husband hates onions but loved the soup here. It was especially tasty on a semi-cold Christmas Eve night. • 16 oz. Ribeye: Cooked perfectly. I love a cast iron seared steak and the beef tallow made it even better. We decided to split a steak - already knowing we'd order way more than two people could eat. • Lobster Mac & Cheese: It was much better than I was expecting. • Heirloom Baby Carrots: There was something about this dish that just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure if it was the spices, or lack of, but still better than others. • Cornbread skillet: A reliable side if it's something you're craving but nothing to write home about. • Cookie skillet: Not very exciting. The cookie was okay but the huckleberry ice cream made it much better. • Dow's 10-year: Treat yourself! This port was the perfect balance of sweet and smooth. My husband also ordered french fries and there was nothing special about 'em. He's not a fan of truffle fries so these were plain. I personally think the truffle fries would have been a better option. All in all, our bill was about $240. Definitely not an every day dining experience for us but we're happy to come back, with a few menu alterations, on special occasions.

Was excited to go to the place because of reviews, as such a mix. Overall, will say the service was good, nice but meal is expensive for quality of food. If you are charging that amount for fries, should have more than ketchup. Meat was cooked correctly but didn’t taste the price, because quality is not there. They either need to charge lower prices or buy better meat. Will say cocktails were great. I would go back for cocktails and some food, unsure about a sit down dinner.

Overpriced!! Service was awful other than that the bartender was friendly. Took 3 bartenders to make one drink. Hostess had us wait and didn’t take down our number to be notified when table was ready. Waitress walked past us 10 times and we had to ask who I presume to be an assistant manager who our server was. Lobster mac & cheese had two small bites of lobster; sauce was cheese not lobster cheese. Brussel sprouts were heavily fried. Bison filet was tender and tasty but under-salted. For these prices service & food should be much better.

Party of 6. Here is a no-ax-to-grind honest take. Nice place. Friendly staff. Service good but no revisit from waitress to freshen drinks. Shrimp cocktail 1 star at best. Cheap, white shrimp with zero taste and very soft. Lobster bisque so over salted as to be no stars. Bread good. Rib steaks good, perhaps 2 stars, maybe 3. Menu says dry aged. Do not believe it. Dry aged has a certain taste. Completely lacking. Dessert very good. French press coffee very good. Quite pricey but so is everything else these days. You can do better elsewhere. Oh, and waitress told us they were out of chicken parmigiana. Really? Maybe because it’s one of the less expensive alternatives? Turns out, when I questioned it, they had chicken, just not the red sauce but they were making it. I wanted to edit this review. I see the chef replied. I will take him at his word that the meat is aged. I will take him at his word he didn't have the red sauce ready for the chicken. Why I don't know. Poor planning perhaps? But note he completely failed to address the poor quality of the shrimp cocktail, for a very expensive price, and did not mention anything about my criticism of the lobster bisque that my wife ordered. She asked me to taste it and I agreed with her it was just bad. Tasted like a bottle of salt, with zero pieces of lobster in it. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the shrimp are frozen, they were way overcooked as to be mushy, and the bisque is also doubtful made from scratch. Another important thing to add is the server, who I said was very nice, emailed my son in law to voice her displeasure with an honest review saying it hurts their business. He had nothing to do with the review. I wrote it. And I did not lie in any way, did not look to hurt the restaurant. I gave it 3 of 5 stars. It probably deserved 2. She said she was sorry if it was our perception she wasn't around to refresh drinks. It wasn't a perception. It was fact. We had to ask other servers for drinks. And the restaurant was 3/4 empty. We ate early.

We were excited about this place. Especially since we are on Main Street almost weekly.. Plonk was great, but we wanted to give other restaurants a chance. The place is really nice and the music was a vibe. The hostess was very professional and nice. Or server was good. The appetizers were good. The shrimp was really good. But our main Entrées were cold. We waited patiently for cold food. I didn't want to be fussy, so I ate some of mine asked for a today go. My bf sent his back just to come came with cold food on a hot plate. They didn't remake the food. The food was heated on the plate and smothered with mushroom sauce.. For the prices things really need to be stepped up.. You can't charge upscale prices and serve diner food. Ijs.

We enjoy fine dining fairly regularly. Expectations run high when dropping this kind of money on one meal...here goes my opinion. This place must be all hype bc one certainly does not get what they pay for. Open Range is no where near on par with true fine dining. The quality just isn't here. We tried this place making a 5pm reservation for an early dinner. Very dissapointing. The signature pear cocktail I had was weak & served in a very tini martini glass. Give this Texas girl some tequila. I later ordered my favorite, a woodford double whiskey sour with extra black cherries & received only one cherry. My husband had the McAllen 12 & was charged $1 for an ice cube. That was weird & funny. Why the $1 for an ice cube? Why not include that in the price of the drink? The Woodford whiskey sour I had was well prepared & delicious. At least that was good but not redeeming! The bread on a board with garlic butter & honey butter was tasty too. The wedge salad we shared was small & drowning in dressing...just too much. The New York strip was an inferior, very fatty cut of meat. That was frustrating. A NY strip @ $50 shouldn't be half marbling. Its not a rib eye. Much of it for me was rubbery & unchewable. We didn't order from the limited choices of desert. The atmosphere of the dining area was interesting & well done, however, a fine dining establishment should have bathrooms that don't look like you're at a Walmart or a fast food joint. No t-paper, sheesh! They should be supplied with plenty of toilet paper & better quality hand towels. Next time we'll go back to Tanglewood. That experience this past week was well worth dropping the $300 we wasted tonight (party of 2). At least now we know. A few of the other restaurants we've tried in Bozeman are Revelry, Montana Ale Works, Tanglewood & Sidewinders. All were fantastic. I wish I could say the same for this one.

I ordered two burgers for pickup on Christmas because it was about the only place open. When I arrived I was expecting amazing food because of the atmosphere instead I was robbed of $48 for two mediocre small burgers that didn’t even taste that great and an extremely small portion of fries. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but this place is probably not gonna be what you expect save your time and money and go elsewhere plenty of other food places to eat.

I don't usually have the money nor the want to go to an expensive restaurants, but I do love steak. My girlfriend decided to take me to the Open Range so I could have a real good steak for my birthday. It wasn't a very busy Wednesday night, plenty of open tables except the 12 top with the oil wigs or whatever paid for there 10 gal hats, we were still seated immediately. I saw the waiter maybe 3 times the whole night. Once to sit, one to take our order, and one to give us our food. I never got the chance to ask for my wine after my steak. The potatoes were dried up and old. The Mac and cheese was bland. And the steak was.... like, an okay steak. Nothing to write home about. No dessert, no expensive wines. $300 bill for two. And the waiter didn't even ask us how it was. Very disappointing price for something I could've gotten better at outback steak house and they suck 👎
