Recensioni di Alta Calidad Brooklyn
This place was really good, my girlfriend and I got the short rib queso fundido (which was incredible), the steak tacos were cooked perfectly and we got the churros for dessert. We want to come back for brunch, this is a must return on our list!
Came here for a dinner and it was delicious. Can highly recommend the tacos
Fantastic food, fantastic margaritas, and our server—Melina—was an angel, as was the rest of the staff. Highly recommend to anyone looking for good food and a good vibe
Had such a tasty burrito for lunch here. Can’t wait to come back!
One of the smallest restaurants I've been to, but the experience was anything but small. The food was incredible, and the service was top-notch. The pork belly was tender and juicy, and the pineapple added the perfect touch!
Great spot for upscale Mexican food. We shared the fish, shrimp, carne asada, and crispy chickpea tacos which were all cooked perfectly and on a fresh soft tortilla. The drinks were also delicious. Service was friendly. Atmosphere 4/5 because the acoustics of the space weren’t great.
We went on a date here during Restaurant Week and loved the food and drinks. It was some of my favorite Mexican food. We plan on coming again!
Loved it, but I recommend reservations. Walked in during brunch on a cold winter morning and managed to grab two spots at the bar, but just barely. Thankfully, the food was worth the crowd, though, with the huevos rancheros offering a delightful remix of that hangover standby thanks to a light-as-a-cloud crispy potato cake and a red sauce my date and I immediately got obsessed with making at home. I order papas bravas whenever I get the chance and Alta Calidad knocked it out of the park there, too, thanks to an enviably precise chop on the potatoes and a chipotle mayo that shames everyone else's flavorless attempts.
An impressive top-notch restaurant that doesn’t take themselves too seriously. Every dish we tried was excellent. If you like spicy and you lean vegetarian the cauliflower small plate blew my mind. The cocktails were delicious. What really stood out to me was the service. The weight staff were attentive and friendly. Although this was my first time here, I felt like an old friend.
Excellent food. Fresh tasting appetizers and taco that were flavorful and different from each other. It looks like care was taken to craft the menu to make sure each item tastes good without being overbearing. Atmosphere is chic and modern although feels a little empty. Service was mixed with good attentiveness at times but overall certainly a good experience. I would come back for the food no questions.
This is a great eclectic Mexican restaurant in the Prospect Heights neighborhood. Their food is really good and changes based on seasonality, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't portion out enough guac, chips, and hot sauce so it forced you to purchase add-ons. Their cocktails are excellent as well, as seen in the included photo.
One of the best Mexican restaurants ever! Their food is extremely good and creative, flavors are rich (although not as spicy as in Mexico), and their service is impeccable. They don't take phone reservations, but you are always welcome to walk in and wait at the bar. PS I loved their Cinco de Mayo specials! Mexican cheese fondue was awesome 🧀 !
One of my favorite restaurants I have ever been to. Utterly FANTASTIC. My partner and I had the mahi mahi, steak, and chicken tinga tacos. We agreed the chicken were the best, but all of them impressed us. We also split the steak torta, which had some really great fried cheese over toasted bread. The steak for both was fatty and juicy. The music here was also great. We will definitely be coming back!
It's all in the name! First recommendation - make a reservation! We didn't and we went there on a Friday night. They were all booked up but the fantastic host, working his literal cape, fit us in and we sat at the high top inside. The food was AH-MAZING! I had the limeade, guacamole, the brussel sprouts, and grilled fish tacos. Everything was more delicious than the last thing. I was afraid to eat anything else because I was afraid to ruin the previous thing. But I was not disappointed! Definitely a new favorite for me, can't wait to go back! P.S. we tried the desserts but honestly our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we couldn't make it through lol
We’ve come here randomly over the years since it’s opened. Sometimes it’s completely booked. On the first warm spring night (a Tuesday), it wasn’t! We had the halloumi quest fundido (delicious!) and two different tacos (pea shoots/chick peas and the oregano chicken. They were both good but I found the chicken tacos more to my liking. The frozen of the day was cucumber Serrano pepper. Have several - you’ll enjoy the medium light spice level and round cucumber flavor in the background. And to top it off, the service from everyone was friendly and attentive.
Loved it here! Between the two of us, we got guac, queso, 2 main dishes and a side — this was a tiny bit too much, but in general Alta Calidad is the type of place to order several things to share. We each had a cocktail, as well, which were nice quality drinks. Will definitely be coming back here!
I stopped in by myself and they immediately sat me. My drink was a perfect mezcal cocktail and my food came out very quickly. I walk by this place all the time and they are typically super busy so I’m glad I came in on a slower night of the week. This was a perfect place to dine alone, read my book, and enjoy an elevated Mexican dinner. This place really lives up to its name, Alta Calidad (high quality) and the music also created a nice atmosphere.
This place has been packed whenever I walk by so I tried for late brunch (really late like at 4:30 pm) and we were told we needed to wait for 30minutes but the seat became available around 10 minutes later. The softshell tacos smell really good and the inside was very flavorful the staff were very friendly and comfortable.
🔥. Came for brunch, we got the huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, and brussel sprouts. Breakfast burrito (nice and saucy, fluffy eggs) was arguably better than the huevos rancheros (very bean heavy which I like), although the huevos rancheros had a unique, spiral crispy base. Brussel sprouts were cooked well but the sauce was not complex or spicy enough. Portion sizes were massive, service kept water filled up (and they had nice big water cups!), cocktails were good. Everything reasonably priced. Bathroom was nice. Pretty much have nothing bad to say about this restaurant - everything is super well thought out and executed on.
I really love this Mexican near my house. It’s kind of fancy, but not too fancy. So you can go casual for a more anytime kind of meal, or throw on a nice shirt and treat it as a date night. The cocktails are awesome. I love their margaritas. The tacos come two to an order, so get a few kinds and have a shared taco platter. So good. I like their guacamole too.
Mexican spot that is featured on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. The list features restaurants that serve good food for reasonable prices and Alta Calidad delivered. Must Try’s: Yuca Fries + Chipotle sauce - out of the park delicious and salty Alta Queso Fundido - probably the best thing we had. Make sure you order this. SO GOOD. Churros - do yourself a favor and leave some room for dessert Solid choices: Carne Asada Tacos - would be on my must but the price point for tacos feels a little criminal. Very good but damn almost $10 per taco is rough Pork Shoulder Carnitas - very good but again the other plates just put this to shame Leave it: Drinks - not a fan. Hot chocolate came out tepid and the mixed drink was just okay. Next time I’ll stick to water or coke Verdict - solid choice for Mexican, would recommend, not in a rush to come back NYC just has too many other places to try
Would highly recommend. Excellent food and service. They accommodated a kid request to simplify the tacos and a vegetarian request to make the queso meat-free. Margaritas were good. Tacos and short rib entree were great as was the rice and beans side. Portion sizes were perfect. Tres Leche dessert was delicious. The music wasn't too loud, so were were able to easily carry on a conversation. My only observation was that the music genre didn't really match the restaurant but that was hardly an issue. 5 stars!
I visited Alta Calidad while on the hunt for a Mexican spot during NY Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Snapper Tostaditas, Carne Asada, and Churros. My favorite of the bunch was the Carne Asada. I would order that again if I returned. The service was great. The waitress answered any questions we had and the drinks came out fast. This was great value for a price of $45 (because it was during restaurant week). The ambiance was great, with natural lighting and good music. I would recommend this place to someone looking for slightly upscale Mexican food.
Update: made it to the prohibitively expensive list. $19 for two small tacos lol Honestly some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in NYC. Delicious flavors, fresh ingredients, and good portions. We had the chips and guacamole + salsa to share. Wow so delicious. They put tajin on the chips for that extra flavor. Also ordered the shrimp tacos - amazing. Fresh, flavorful, and not doing too much while still be so delicious. And the torta - wow. So so so delicious. Definitely recommended and will be back again.
Lovely spot for weekend brunch! Showed up around when they opened at 11am without a reservation and sat outside right away. A reservation in general would probably be recommended though. The chilaquiles have such depth of flavor with the two salsas, and the huevos rancheros were also pretty flavorful (though we preferred the chilaquiles if we had to pick). Solid portion sizes, left very full. We also split a ginger mocktail that was quite refreshing. Forget the name but recommend. Cool spot. Will be back to try their tacos.
We had a really good meal at this Mexican restaurant. We ordered chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, and a margarita, and everything was fresh and full of flavor. The sauce on the tacos was absolutely delicious, adding the perfect touch to each bite. The presentation was neat, and the restaurant itself was clean and well-organized. The atmosphere was pleasant, and we especially enjoyed the music playing in the background, which added to the experience. If you’re looking for tasty food, a nice ambiance, and good music, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Good and fast service. Inventive menu, well executed. I'm infatuated with the guacamole because of the complex spices and the delicious chips. The portions were good: the tacos, while expensive, are large and filling. The outdoor seating is pleasant, especially on Dean Street which is sheltered and quieter.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Huevos Benedict, both the taste and my fullness. When my plate came, I thought it was not enough to fill me. So my friend and I ordered a side of Papa Braves. At the end we struggled to finish our food. My dish tasted like a juicy burrito with the eggs. My friend's Chilaquiles & Fideos was rich and creamy, but I preferred mine. The table next to us ordered a Breakfast Quesadilla that looked delicious. Will definitely give that one a try next time. Huevos Benedict $12 Chilaquiles & Fideos $9
Everything was great, and staff were really nice but we felt it was pretty expensive compared to similar places in the city we've been to. So you get an idea, our order of chips and guac appetizer, a glass of wine and a margarita, two orders of tacos (good but two small tacos per order), and a shared side of rice and beans came to about $130 w tax and tip.
Alta Calidad is a solid choice for a nice night out in the neighborhood. It has a cool, modern, chic vibe that works well for a casual date or dinner with a small group. The staff is friendly and attentive. While the vegan options are limited, what they have available is tasty. The tacos are consistently good and you’ll find a few seasonal sides or shareables like roasted broccolini and chips or guac. Wash it down with a margarita that always hits the spot. AC does get busy on weekends, so make reservations if you want to avoid waiting. It’s a reliable spot with good drinks, tasty bites, and a chill atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
Had a great Friday dinner with a few friends. The guac and chips came with harder chips than usual chips, but it was helpful for the thick guac. The fish tacos were delicious! The wait staff were very attentive, and removed my utensils before I could finish the guac...after I ran out of chips.
We had brunch here. I had steak and eggs. Everything was either seared or fried. Even cheese. Bread was soaking in oil and mayo. It tastes ok, but I wouldn’t call this food a healthy one. Inside restaurant looks great, bar zone and restrooms are awesome. Outside seating needs a little work. Table was shaking, water was spilling, doesn’t feel cozy outside. In general I’ll give it a try in a winter time and for dinner, there is nothing to eat for me during brunch, but I saw a lot of pictures of food which I would love to try here on google maps. Service was good tho. Bartender was beautiful 😍.
We had lunch at Alta Calidad and it was great. The chilaquiles hit all the right notes, a solidly executed version of this classic dish. The torta was also tasty though just slightly dry for my taste. I also had the tequila-based El Jardín to drink. It was tasty but I missed the smokiness of mezcal. I’d substitute the next time. We also indulged on the “churros.” These were not churros at all. More like donut balls. I’d skip.
Went in around 4pm after an afternoon in Prospect Park. This was perfect lunch on a hot day. We had the shrimp tempura tacos, fish tacos, and yuca tater tots. Everything was so fresh! Sitting outside on a Sunday is the best move. There was live music just a few feet from the restaurant awesome vibe!
Beautifully decorated and excellent food. We had the basic burrito and shrimp taco lunch box. The burrito had a creamy texture inside and thin pliable tortilla with the perfect balance of flavors. The butterflied shrimp were gently grilled with a some char and featured a little spiciness. Guac and chips were clearly made in house and delicious. Service on Friday at lunch was not great, just okay. It was friendly but not attentive and not timely. Upon entering, we waited several minutes with no acknowledgement until i asked the bartender if we could have a table. Water glasses were not refilled during the meal (but were refilled before the meal :-) Our food sat in the window for a couple minutes as our server stood next to it chatting with a coworker. Lastly, it took unusually long for the server to bring back our credit card with the receipt. TLDNR: Food and atmosphere was excellent. Service was average.
INCREDIBLE yuca tots and great service. Everything else was mediocre. The outdoor seating is boring and my beef brisket taco was good, but a little dry. I also came here for my friend’s birthday and when I reserved our seat online, I asked for a birthday dessert to be brought out. I thought maybe this dessert would be on the house considering that it was her birthday and all, but they charged me full price for it. It’s not a big deal, but it would have made me want to come back if it had been offered free of charge. Either way, if I come back it’s hands down for the yuca tots.
I had a fabulous pre Birthday brunch at Alta Calidad. The day was perfect sunny day, outside dinning while people watching. Servers were very knowledgeable and great recommendations based on our dietary needs. My chicken tacos were yummm, I had an organic white wine - absolutely delicious. Highly recommend
Taste-wise, the food was delicious, and the drinks were very good. The service was amazing, and I really like the location of this place. However, the portion sizes were quite small. If you’re coming here just to have a drink and a light bite, it’s perfect. But if you’re arriving hungry and expecting a full meal, even two plates might not be enough to fill you up.
There is a lot of great food here. The guacamole was delicious. I really enjoyed the brussel sprouts and my chicken tacos. Also its been a while since I’ve been to a mexican spot that actually salted their rice and beans. My partner thought their tempura tacos were a bit burnt. Honestly the food was good but the price didnt match. Like 2 tacos being $18 is kind of absurd. It was just a little too expensive. But i do think it is worth going back. Their cocktails were good as well.
Everything here deserves 5 stars - the food is delicious, the staff is nice and attentive, the restaurant itself is cute and clean. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because of the cost of everything - $16 for two tacos (with no add ons like rice or beans) seemed a little high, especially since you’re not started with chips or anything of any kind. If you do want the chips, they are $18. I got two kinds of tacos since I didn’t think one dish would be enough (one dish comes with 2), and they were delicious. They were the slow cooked brisket tacos and the roasted fish tacos.
Great service and quality food and drinks. Have had this on my list for a while! The chips and guacamole were above average - very picky with guac and this one passed the test for sure. Flavorful and a good mix of smooth and chunky. The octopus and pork belly dish was INCREDIBLE - loved the little skewer it came on, small bites but it packed a savory punch. The standout of the night was the tres leches carrot cake, so so moist and yummy. I would come back just for the carrot cake! Tacos were decent but the octopus stood out.
We order some dishes to share (guac, queso, ceviche), were tasty. The the octopus-pork have good combination of flavors. The duck have a bit too much spicy to really enjoy the duck flavor. The drinks were really good. In general good experience, but a bit expensive. They have a nice outside space and the service was really attentive.
Alta Calidad is definitely in my top mexican restaurant experiences in NYC. Initially, upon arriving, I found the place a bit unassuming and not having the best ambiance, but the margarita was already a good mind-changer. The food overall was good, with the shrimp tempura tacos definitely being the highlight of my experience. It is simply divine. The guacamole and salsa chips plus the dessert were not at the same level, but very good. Good job!
my service was very nice! young man with black hair and glasses. great service! my only concern is they are very skimpy. ordered a glass of white wine and it was like 20% filled. white wine should be half of the glass…. next, I ordered octopus. tell me why I received 1/3 octopus, 1/3 pork belly, and 1/3 potato? I ordered octopus……..not pork belly and potato with a splash of octopus. very frugal establishment…. food was good but I cannot return
The location and the ambience are excellent. The squash blossom quesadilla was delicious; however, the server did not check back on us after giving our food, so we couldn’t order another. In fact, it took quite an effort to get their attention and ask for the check. The other items we tried were very creative but not well-executed. Beef adobo tacos: the adobo was delicious, but it made the tortillas soggy! Pea shoot tacos: the pea shoots weren’t cooked well, so they were difficult to bite off without dismantling the taco completely. Fish tacos: the fish was not very fresh.
The atmosphere and service are the only redeeming aspects of this restaurant. It has plenty of potential but our food arrived burnt, dry, or mediocre at best, considering the steep prices. The queso fundido came in a skillet and was charred to the point where it became very tough and took forever to chew. The yucca fries were dry and stiff, and the rest of the food was just ok considering the average 20$ price tag. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was great, I just hope this isn't the standard for their kitchen. Edit: margaritas were solid, good quality tequila and balance of refreshing flavors.
⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 – Decent flavor, but tiny portions and overpriced I ordered one serving (which only comes with two very small tacos). The menu listed them at $19, but I was charged $20 (slight discrepancy typo or last minute adjustment? 😅). The meat was a bit tough and charred, nothing exceptional for the price. That said, the restaurant itself is stylish and clean (your typical Instagram-worthy spot). Note: The guacamole shown in photos is a $5 side (only the lime is free, lol). Bottom line: If you’re actually hungry, you’ll need two orders ($40), which feels excessive for tacos that don’t stand out. As someone familiar with authentic Latin flavors, I’ve had far better at lower prices. This might impress tourists, but it didn’t win me over.
Went with my husband yesterday for brunch. I ordered the pumpkin flower quesadilla which the menu says is made with Oaxaca cheese. It was most certainly NOT Oaxaca cheese. Oaxaca cheese is bright white, even after being heated. You can see from the picture a piece I cut that the color is not what it should be. The cheese did not stretch/stringy either which Oaxaca cheese does. The most frustrating moment for me was when I asked the server what Chihuahua Cheese is. I wouldn't have mind if they said they didn't know and needed to check with the chef. But her response to me was "it's a type of cheese" 😳. It is? Wow I had no idea. The guacamole was good and my husband's brisket tacos were tasty. But the Tajin on the nachos wasn't necessary and could have been served on the side. That said, we won't be going back. The food was not high quality or 'alta calidad' at all.
I’ve been in this place many times and even left a great review on yelp once. However, my last experience was horrible. It was a Monday afternoon around 5pm and came with my mom for lunch after a long shift at our jobs. The Latina hostess who didn’t want to speak Spanish to us even though I kept responding to her in Spanish told us that all low top tables were meant for upcoming reservations only and she can only offer us the bar. I’d normally understand this during peak hours but she didn’t give us any other options. I went online and saw Plenty reservations available and made one for a low top. After showing this to her she only pointed at the tables outside and if we wanted a table inside we would need to leave by 645pm. But why not saying that in the beginning????? Like 1 hour and 45 minutes is plenty of time for a late lunch. It just seemed that she didnt want us there. Service was cold and odd. You have a big sign that all dreamers are welcomed but only seems that you are nicer to the white people there. What a shame, it was our place on Mondays and you just lost loyal customers that supported you since you opened. I reached out to you via email but no response either.
This was so bland food, zero spice. The meat was over cooked and dry, the dishes had 1 ketchupy sauce, guacamole was bland, the corn bread boring. 2 tacos for 18-19$. Joke.
I typically refrain from writing negative reviews; however, my experience this evening has left me disappointed and hurt. I was asked to leave this restaurant, seemingly due to being the only Black patron present. Upon my arrival, I was filled with anticipation, as I had dined here multiple times during the summer and had thoroughly enjoyed my visits. In fact, I had intended to collaborate with the restaurant to feature them on my TikTok page, which showcases eateries in New York City. After a demanding week at work, I looked forward to reading, enjoying my meal, indulging in dessert, and enjoying a glass of wine. Upon entering, the hostess welcomed me to a table without mentioning any upcoming reservations. Had I been informed, I would have chosen to dine elsewhere. The first red flag, was when the waitress approached me asking if I was ready to order but never made mention of the taco special, yet shortly thereafter, when two young white women were seated, she enthusiastically described the taco special of the evening. Having worked in the hospitality industry, I recognized that this could have been an oversight on her part, so I chose not to address it. After finishing my tacos, the waitress inquired if I needed a box. When she returned she did not offer dessert options, although I overheard her presenting them to the table beside me. Instead, she brought the bill. At this time, I requested to see the dessert menu, to which she responded with apparent annoyance. After a few moments, she asked if I had made a decision because a new reservation had just arrived. I observed that there were six available tables that could easily accommodate a party of two. She then claimed that the hostess had informed me that there was a reservation on the way. I intended to enjoy my Saturday night dinner and would not have remained if I had known there was a time limit. I had been there for less than an hour. When I requested to speak with a manager, he attributed the issue to the hostess, and when I questioned the availability of the other tables, he stated they were reserved for other guests. I surveyed my surroundings and observed another girl sitting at a table meant for two. Unlike me, she was not a Black woman, which seemingly permitted her to remain. While I typically refrain from invoking race in discussions, the circumstances surrounding my removal just 40 minutes into my meal left me with no other rationale. I left the situation feeling both embarrassed and wounded by the experience.
