Was visiting New York and wife wanted Korean food. Wasn't much in Bedstuy but we found this place. Food was actually so good. Spoke with the chef that operates this place and they are doing a soft opening. The dish I ordered was a Korean pork shoulder and it came out super vibrant and delicious. My wife really enjoyed it too. Oh, soju cocktails were amazing. They had a bunch of flavors but had the Soju Lemonade. Give this place a try!
One of my favorite spots in BK. The food is excellent!! The owner and staff are super welcoming and refreshingly friendly. Coffee is also excellent and it's one of the few places in the neighborhood that serves coffee/tea/matcha well into the afternoon.
I love stopping by this cafe in the mornings. My coffee is always solid and consistent, definitely some of the best coffee in the area. You can tell the baristas really know what they’re doing. I’ll usually hang out for a couple hours early in the morning to get some work done, and it’s always quiet and a good vibe. I’ve had the food a few times too and it’s always been tasty!
Food is great; a cool, clean, rustic fusion twist on Korean cuisine that’s unapologetic yet mindful about the spice levels on their items. The service is impeccable and leaves nothing to be desired. An absolute mainstay for the neighborhood and, without a doubt, a great little spot to visit if in the area.
At 5 the place turns from coffee shop into a fantastic little Korean kitchen. The kimmari was really incredible, crispy seaweed wrapped noodles that have been deep fried. We also tried the Tteok-bok-ki which was spicy, saucy rice cakes and carrots; if you aren’t used to the heat also order some of the cooling Japchae noodles! My partner said the Bibimbap was also very very good! We’re excited to have this place in the neighborhood.
I love this restaurant so much! They are a staple in my diet! I have yet to try everything on the menu, but so far the popcorn chicken appetizer is my favorite. I love close, so I usually do take out, but the restaurant is really cute and great for a date night or a night out with friends. I think they also karaoke…
Wonderful little restaurant - food came out quickly, hot, fresh, and delicious! The kimchi seasoned fries were incredible, and the jjigae was warm, spicy, and hit the spot! Would definitely come back to try their lunch and coffee. Highly recommend!
small menu; cozy vibes well done. i enjoy their matcha & chai lattes, one of the few cafes in the neighborhood with lavender syrup so i’m there often. the gochugaru fries were ‘finished before first bite of sandwich’ worthy. the padak sandwich was delicious, great layering of flavors in each bite. i’d order again.
I recently had an amazing Korean food experience that truly hit every craving. We started with the Japchae (D), and it was absolutely delicious. The glass noodles were perfectly chewy, lightly sweet, and tossed beautifully with vegetables. It had that classic balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors that makes japchae so comforting. The Bulgogi (beef) was incredibly flavorful. The beef was tender, well-marinated, and grilled just right. It had that perfect smoky-sweet taste that makes bulgogi a must-order every time. The Kimmari were crispy on the outside and packed with flavorful glass noodles inside. Dipping them in soy sauce made them even better — crunchy, savory, and addictive. For appetizers, the Padak stood out. The chicken was crispy and juicy, topped with fresh scallions and a light sauce that added just the right kick without overpowering the crunch. The Kimchi Jjigae was warm, hearty, and full of depth. The broth had that bold fermented kimchi flavor with a spicy edge that made it incredibly comforting. The Kimchi Fried Rice was another highlight — smoky, savory, and perfectly balanced. Each bite had just the right amount of tangy kimchi flavor. To drink, I tried Milkis, which was sweet, creamy, and refreshing — a fun Korean classic. I also had a bottle of Terra, a crisp Korean beer that paired perfectly with the rich and spicy dishes. Overall, everything felt authentic, flavorful, and satisfying. The variety of textures — crispy, chewy, tender, and brothy — made the meal exciting from start to finish. I would definitely come back to try even more dishes.
the coffee here is always on point. the breakfast menu is unique and delicious. when you want to sit and chill, theyve got great ceramic ware. the lunch/dinner menu is fire too!
Bedstuy now has a Korean coffee shop! And the coffee service is still the same. They just added more food and it’s LA style Korean. So it’s actually a step up. Still have all the breakfast classics just some mild flavorful enhancements. Like kimchee showing up in a burrito, which is totally bomb.
Truly delicious fried chicken WOW. Generous portions. Excellent playlist and vibe too
so good i. teared up 😭 asian baddies in/around bedstuy rejoice for this amazing korean spot!!!!!!
Best Korean street food I've had! There are delicious vegetarian options. Perfect for take out or really nice to stay for a date night. Will return again and again!
Sonbul is a gift to the neighborhood, with modern but unpretentious Korean food that tastes straight out of L.A. I keep coming back for the pork don-ka-seu, kimmari and kimchi fried rice, but the cheesesteak sandwich is something special. You can easily make a meal out of a few appetizers. Mostly takeout for now so it's pretty quiet and laid-back for dining in — and it's worth doing so, because the chef, Taeil, and his staff really take care of their customers.
Everything about this place was great. The owner made sure everything was perfect and that we had a really good time. Love this new spot and will come back soon and often. Kimchi sandwich was really great. Must try
Amazing food and great service!! Highly recommend ordering a family style meal so you can try more dishes. The kimmari, korean cheesesteak, and fried rice are fire. But, honestly, I don’t think anything in the menu could dissapoint. 5 stars!!
i’ve been coming here for a long time and had to finally leave a review to support this lovely place!! definitely try sonbul <3 :) everything i’ve had is delicious!!!! and everyone who works there is so kind! the atmosphere inside is great. u will love this place i promise! i love their kimchi fried rice with tofu, bibimbap, and gochugaru fries yayyy
Been a regular here for a long time, I think at this point I’ve tried everything on the menu— you can’t go wrong! Everything is delicious, priced fairly, and made with love :) Owner Taeil Kim is super passionate and has assembled an amazing staff around him *10 of 10!*
Incredible chicken sandwich, I cannot stress this enough. Cooked perfectly, well-balanced seasoning, korean flavors nestled comfortably against the selected bun. THE FRIES WERE IMMACULATE, TRUST!
Awesome food!! Great vibes!! Love the cocktails and the beer selection! Went here with friends for dinner and a show. We loved it! Definitely excited to come back to grab drink here again! The Korean food is exceptional!
This place is awesome! Came for dinner and it's my new favorite spot in the neighborhood, will be back often. Super delicious food, solid portions, warm & inviting atmosphere, the owner is really kind & knowledgeable. Great spot to come on your own or with a group :)
I love this restaurant so much, the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming and the food was AMAZING. The kimmari and the pork belly were my favorites of the night and so unbelievably flavorful. Can’t wait to come back here and try more things on the menu!
Taeil was absolutely wonderful. Great service. Wonderful food nothing missed. Ordered dumplings, kimchi fried rice, half and half wings, and tofu all 10/10. Definitely a place to stop at and they are a coffee shop in the morning!
Everything at Sonbul is always fresh and flavorful! I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried here, both the appetizers and mains. The staff are kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. A gem all around!
My new favorite Korean restaurant! The food is insane, the owner is so kind, service is top tier. What more could you ask for. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE KAMARI. Just had it a couple days ago and already planning on order again soon! Delivery or dine-in, you can't go wrong.
This place is a hidden treasure in our neighborhood. The menu items are excellent, fresh cooked and vary. Having a Padak Chicken Sandwich right now, and saving the Fried Chicken dinner for tomorrow! Service and chef are super nice! Thanks for providing a great Korean alternative in our neighborhood!🙏
I absolutely love the chill vibes and the food here! My favorite is the K-Street B.E.C. (Bacon, egg, cheese) sandwhich and Matcha iced tea. :) This place is also pet and people friendly, hehe.
yo this place is SO good! i could eat the kimmari every single day. so comforting but not too indulgent. have had several things so far and it has all been good - lover the kimchi cheesesteak and the bone broth!! can’t wait to eventually get a taste of the whole menu. they also have makku which is delicious and some great sounding soju cocktails that i hope to try next time. it is located inside the Burly coffee shop on throop so it feels easy to miss but i urge you to stop in and try it- the food is out of this world and is *real* food that is good for you!
So excited to have a great Korean spot in the neighborhood. The kimchi Philly cheesesteak was so inventive and the bulgogi was so tender and moist. Korean fried chicken and don katsu were also delicious - super flavorful and crispy! Great prices too! We will definitely be back, this place is a home run! ☺️
Love coming here for coffee!! Never had a bad drink and the staff is very friendly. You can’t go wrong with any of the food, but the K-Street BEC, cheesesteak, and Padak Chicken Sandwich are to die for 🙏
Fantastic service through and through, exactly what you want out of a local spot. Food was fantastic and a good price too, great portions I left stuffed and the plate clean! Will definitely come back for sure!
My favorite spot for authentic Korean food that's like homemade food goodness, made with special care. It reminds me of home! I've had pretty much everything off the menu and love it all. Today I had the Bulgogi Dosirak, I ate all of it! Delicious! The soju cocktails are also awesome. This is going to be my regular place now.
The pork belly Do Shi Rak was so good, especially with the Japchae. Some of the best Japchae I have ever had.
To say I was impressed is an understatement.. The food and service here was incredible!! The quality and taste of each dish I tried outdid the last. Do not skip out on the Kimmari or Tteok-Bok-Ki.. and the kimchi… I would buy it in bulk if ever given the opportunity. Do not sleep on Sonbul!!
This is my go to spot for hot coffee and sumptuous bibimbap. Not only is their prized pour over silky smooch af, the baristas, particularly Zannah and Christian, always deliver the best artisan brews and playlists.
Super delicious and comforting. Banchan are not complementary but they’re very reasonably priced and there’s a wide selection! There’s ample seating as well, and it’s a lovely vibe.
Great coffee shop during the day! Lovely cafe to sit and work in. Great coffee. Local vibe. Friendly staff!
I’ve been here multiple times and brought multiple people!!! My go to order is the kimchi stew with rice and bulgogi. The soup itself is very affordable but the add ons make it up to $20 which is not ideal, as kimchi jjigae order doesn’t include rice and if you want rice, you have to get it as an extra. My friends tried the big sandwich that comes with one of the biggest creamiest fries. The sandwich itself is pretty decent with decent amount of flavors. We also loved the ttaekbokki. Ttaekbokki here has more of a spicier flavor with plenty rice cakes and udon. I always end up with runny nose after eating it lol (ig thats how you know it’s good food). The sonbul is also pretty good, I suggest ordering it on cold days alongside with ttaekbokki. The soup itself is bland and goes perfectly with super spicy ttawkbokki!
I stopped by this spot on a long weekend afternoon, a little past the peak lunch rush. Inside, the vibe was relaxed — a few people were hanging out with coffee, chatting with friends, or working on their laptops. I liked the easygoing atmosphere and decided to settle in for lunch. I ordered a Korean fried chicken sandwich with a side of gochujang fries. The service was on the slower side, but I didn’t mind since I was just enjoying the downtime. The staff was friendly, and one of them mentioned the kitchen was closing soon, so they served my food in a takeout box instead of a plate. It didn’t bother me, and the portion size was generous — enough that I took some leftovers home. The fries were okay: crisp but under-seasoned, and the gochujang topping didn’t really deliver much heat or flavor. The sandwich, on the other hand, was excellent. The chicken breast was well-seasoned, perfectly battered, and fried (though a touch greasy). What really made it stand out were the condiments and the pickled radish, which added brightness and balance. It was hearty, filling, and satisfying. Overall, this place has a laid-back atmosphere and serves good food. I’d definitely return and would recommend it to others.
Great place for some Korean-Mexican fusion food. The day we came, the place was out of a lot of dishes, so it was a bit disappointing trying to order as almost everything we wanted to try was out. I believe for about 4 dishes we tried to order, the waiter told us they were out. I also think the place is new so service was pretty slow, but the food is definitely good. I think over time the restaurant will sort out the kinks, and will come back and try the place when things are smoother. We were able to order the kimchi fried rice and the fusion quesadillas, both of which were amazing. Korean-Mexican fusion is something that is wonderful in Los Angeles, and I'm glad it has found its way to New York. Definitely recommend coming here to try any of the fusion food, and I'm sure some of the more classical dishes are good based off the ones we tried. The space itself has music videos playing constantly, almost seems like at night the place turns into a party space.
I want to support but don’t keep coffee on the menu in bedstuy if an iced matcha latte can come to $8. This is more than I pay even in manhattan near Madison square park. Also the staff’s never been friendly. Probably bc the stuff is so expensive so many probably aren’t encouraged to also leave a tip. I still left one. So $9 for a coffee in bedstuy. Guessing rents pricy. But don’t put that on your customers in a community like this. Was reminded why I only come here once a year since I’ve lived nearby. When it was burly it was somewhat affordable. Still rude staff. Figure out how to make this accessible and fair. This is laughable
this place is decent for a quick bite!, I paid $13 for a breakfast burrito but the flavor... I could have made at home the only saving grace on it was the kimchi ketchup . Also the matcha latte I got was all milk so a bit flavorless. Their bulgogi beef bowl didn't have a lot of bulgogi it was mostly rice but there was decent flavor. Their interior was a big bare so there was a huge echo making it kinda super loud in there from all the sound just bouncing off the wall. Overall if you just need a quick bite sure give it a try !
Good coffee, servers are definitely not the nicest :( both times I’ve been I’ve had dismissive service, weird looks, and it makes me not want to return. It’s a shame because the chai is great!
this is probably the second time i have ever had to write a review on google but this feels too much like a scam to let it go. We ordered the kimchi chigae, kimchi fried rice, and japchae. the kimchi chigae does not come with rice and isn’t mentioned anywhere that it isn’t (this is unusual for chigae as it a food that is intended to be paired with rice) but okay i would have ordered a side of rice if i had to… but then the food is nowhere close to what they advertise on the menu as you can see in the picture i posted below.. the soup also comes in a pint container and not the usual 32oz and it only has few pieces of kimchi /tofu and nothing else. even then if the chigae itself is edible and somewhat tasty it might be forgivable and i’d try to understand and blame the “recession” but the broth tastes nothing like a chigae has no flavor other than a hint of gochujang and gochugaru and intense sweetness of sugar water my mouth rejected it as i took my first bite…. I unfortunately have to recook it and try to fix it….. :( </3
the food is laughable and it took over 30 minutes - tofu was fine but the toppings were basically nonextinent and it was mostly rice (??). i've never written a review before insane that this had a 4.9
I come in frequently for just a coffee, and for whatever reason the vibes at the front counter are hostile and just rude. they aren’t very welcoming - i can barely get a smile out of anyone. no one bothered to tell me about the rewards program despite coming in every day, and i get charged different amounts each time i go. Just not a pleasant way to start my morning…
Editing my comment in response to the owner’s response below. Over 30 minute wait for sub-par food, empty water dispenser, active drug user out front came in and harassed customers inside with no recourse from staff. While I understand that’s a difficult situation to contend with, it’s unfair to pass that onus along to paying customers. I’m reluctant to leave a negative review on a new business in the neighborhood, but this missed the mark in every possible way. If you’re looking for a good meal in the area, head next door to Guacuco, across the street for takeout from New Hardee, or one block away to El Caminante.
Excited to try a new Korean restaurant, but as a Korean, I was disappointed with the experience. Having grown up in Korea and NJ, this was the worst food I've encountered. Lesson learned: be cautious with your native food and skeptical of those unfamiliar with native cuisine. We ordered two dishes: Bulgogi doshirak - The meat was under-marinated and overly salty. The rice smelled like haetban (premade rice one can get at a Korean supermarket) 햇반, and the plastic aroma was off-putting. The accompanying japchae was cold, bland, and lacked veggies. The bean sprout dish tasted like a generic side dish from a Brooklyn market, not even from H mart.. Pork belly doshirak - Expected 쌈장 ssamjang for dipping, but the pork had a strong odor. Suggest cooking it with garlic or finding a way to eliminate the pungent smell.. Wanted to support a fellow Korean restaurant, but it tasted like someone unfamiliar with Korean culture or cuisine. If you have a deep understanding of Korean food, I'd advise avoiding this and saving your money. Better off getting kimchi and other Korean ingredients from Korea, especially if you are fortunate to have family there, and cook for yourself, adding some ingredients from H Mart for a more satisfying experience.
