Recensioni di Coszcal de Allende Brooklyn
Absolutely fantastic branzino and truffle corn quesadilla. Authentic. Light. Very tasty.
This was the first time my wife and I went to Coszcal de Allende and we loved it! Everything was fantastic from the service to the atmosphere. The food and drinks were great! We will definitely be back!
Listen I can't even begin to describe how amazing the food is here. This is something you have to experience on your own. It is quite possibly the best Mexican spot I've tried and this is coming from someone who lived in CA for 5yrs and tried all types of Mexican food. This is the spot. Do yourself the favor and come here. You won't be disappointed. From the decor, the costumer service everything is on point. They deserve a 10 star rating!
We drove 1 hour and 20 minutes to visit Coszcal last night. We discovered Coszcal by chance, last year, while on a day trip in the city. We live down at the Jersey shore and 100% had to fit them in while we'd be in Brooklyn for an event. Among the menu items we ordered were the guacamole, sopa Azteca, vegetarian burrito, elote, plato de barro (tinga and steak), and tostones in garlic sauce. Nothing disappointed. We're sad to read the restaurant may close as per other reviews. Hoping that's not the case or they decide to relocate and keep the deliciousness going at a new location. If you are looking for some flavorful dishes made with love, you need to try them out while you still can.
I was going to say this is the best Mexican food I've had in Bay Ridge, but it might actually be the best I've had in all of Brooklyn. Totally killer chicken mole, totally killer cochinita pibil, just top to bottom everything is a step above your average neighborhood place, but but a chill atmosphere and decent prices. This place is a gem.
Family owned spot with a very friendly, very lovely staff. Service is always great! They will accommodate your toddler and her messes. Their food is always high quality! We are a big fan of the chili rellenos and just about any of the plato's. And, that tequila and mezcal selection is perfection.
What a MAGICAL environment, SCRUMPTIOUS food and LOVELY service!!! Thank you, Marto, for being a GEM of a human checking in on us and giving us your ELECTRIC energy!!! This is a MUST if you’re in Bay Ridge looking for fantastic food and wonderful vibes!!! Thank you!!!! 😁
Phenomenal little family owned restaurant with a wonderful ambience, dedicated staff, delicious food and well made cocktails. Highly recommend 👌 (the best cocktails in bay ridge)
Came here unexpectedly with friends last night and was pleasantly surprised!! We sat in the patio area and dined on great quality, authentic Mexican food and the sangria was delicious too. Definitely will be back!!
We had a slight mix up on an order. The staff were on it. The food was so worth the wait! Absolutely fantastic flavor & quality. Don’t think I’ve had better. When my husband ran in to grab the food. Woman was so sweet. She included two desserts. I don’t usually order dessert. Light & fabulous! Will rethink ordering their desserts for sure.
Nice backyard atmosphere. Delicious Food...Great Authentic Margaritas! The owner Veronica was eating dinner there as well, which is always a good sign to me. We had great service from Ivy and Louie. Will definitely be back soon.
This was my first time at Coszcal De Allende and not only were the food and drinks absolutely SUPERB, but our server, Marto, was charismatic, attentive, and just an overall SLAMMIN server. What a memorable experience, I WILL be back WITH more people, and I just feel grateful that I was there! To many more moments at this amazing place!!
This place is amazing! They have unique and delicious cocktails and the same is true for their dishes. It’s beyond your standard fare for sure. Love the tostada de pulpo, the tacos and burritos are great and the mole is awesome. They also have a good selection of natural wines which was a nice addition. Also it’s run by an amazingly sweet family!
I was in Mexico recently and this food reminded us of what we had there. The ceviche and queso fundido was excellent. The salsa and guacomale are likewise delicious. But above all, the vibes of the restaurant was great. Luis went above and beyond to accommodate my party and was incredibly welcoming
Authentic and delicious. My wife and I have been here several times and have yet to try something we didn't love. That's goes for the drinks as well! Their mezcal drinks in particular are my personal favorites. And to top it off? Absolutely sweet and wonderful staff. Great vibe, great food, great drinks. Highly recommend
Beautiful, cozy, authentic, little place that serves good food, amazing drinks, and gives great service. Servers were very attentive. We had guacamole & chips, quesadilla de Huitlatoche, and steak burrito. Hubby loved the super cold Corona beer. I felt in love with the "Chabela" drink. Super fresh, flavorful. Excellent amount of tequila and I loved the music: latin-spanish classics that brought me back to my younger years. A must comeback!!!
My children treated me to this beautiful Mexican restaurant and it was such a wonderful experience. I felt like I was in Mexico. We ate outside in the garden. The food came out in a timely fashion and it was reasonably priced for such an upscaled neighborhood.
Loved this place at their old location still love it at their new location! Highly recommend. Coszcal de allende owners are super sweet, staff very courteous and polite. The food and Drinks are chef's kiss if you have not tried this place before is a MUST TRY. 10 out of 10
So happy to see them doing well at the new location! I remember how upset we were when we heard they were closing and I must say the drinks and food are as good if not better than before! Wonderful service and atmosphere makes this place a true neighborhood gem!
I love this place so much. You truly feel the warmth when you step inside. My family comes here for every birthday and special event because of how delicious the food is and how welcoming the staff are. Best restaurant ever!
I wish I had taken photos of the food but I was having dinner with my 8 year old. We had the tostada de Jaiba (crab) which was absolutely devoured by my daughter alone and she gave it a 10/10. We later shared the quesadilla de harina with is a great shareable item. Lastly we shared the Mexican paella that had all the proteins and salsa macha to die for. The owner later sent a few slices of the quesadilla de huitlacoche which tasted like an item that belongs in a Michelin star restaurant. Everything was amazing from music to service and vibes. Will definitely come back with a bigger group next time.
New location - food as good as ever. try the winter soup menu! Great Fried fish! Ceviche is incredible. Family owned and cooked!
How is this place not rated higher? So much flavor and way better food than the more popular Mexican restaurants in the area. The beet and orange tostada was unique and delicious. The pulled pork with pickled habanero was amazing. This place should be packed every day. Until then I’ll just keep enjoying Bay Ridge’s best kept secret.
We have had probably over 25 meals in this restaurant over the last year and it has always been sensational. The combination of excellent service, friendliness, ambience and above all consistently fine cooking has always made this a special experience. When the weather is warm we dine outside on the charming patio, and during the winter inside. We all have different favorites. The Chicken Mole is delicious and beautifully spiced. The burritos are excellent, as are the fish tacos and the chile relleno. We've enjoyed many times the El Plato de Baro with steak and chicken, and the Mexican style shrimp is a particular favorite. We alternate between aquas frescas (watermelon, tamarind, etc.) which are terrific, and a nice selection of typical Mexican drinks with alcohol. Sadly, we've heard that this restaurant is going to be closing because the landlord will not renew the lease. This would be a sad outcome. There should actually be a way to landmark a business in the same way buildings can be landmarked. In a way, the businesses are more important to the character of a neighborhood. A building without soul, is just a facade, no matter how historic. What's real are people interacting, and enjoying a meal the way we and so many others do at Coszcal De Allended.
The food and drinks were delicious! Thoroughly enjoyed our night out in their backyard outdoor seating. Portions are nice and prices are right. An absolute new favorite. I hope to come often
Great spot! This place and Tacos Por Favor are my go to spots for Mexican food as they are the best in the neighborhood. I would give Coszcal the number 1 spot in Bay Ridge due to their reasonable prices, exceptional cocktail craftsmen-ship and vibe.
Great food and a great hang although sometimes I ask them to turn down the music! The food is home made and so delicious and is not your typical Americanized Mexican food. It’s so tasty - for instance the roasted corn and truffle oil quesadilla is fantastic. Love this place!!
Was saddened over the summer to learn that one of our consistent go-to Mexican restaurants would be closing. Was thrilled to find out that they only moved a few blocks away! The food - every bit as good, the ambience even better in the new place, and the service was as good as you'd get. Cozy and warm atmosphere, lively music, excellent food at very reasonable prices. Glad they're still with us!
Came here for drinks around 11pm on a Friday, the lighting and decor is beautiful, quiet and intimate atmosphere. They gave us chips and salsa even though the kitchen was closed, which were homemade and DELISSHHH. The sangria was lovely and minty. My girlfriend and I are saying we want to come back for lunch tomorrow so we can try the food!! Love the way they designed this spot. I wish them much success!!
As soon as you walk in, the vibe is Mexico. Such a cute and cozy spot. The food is authentic, Mexican food, along with amazing cocktails. The service matches it all. Waiter was super friendly, with great suggestions and extremely attentive. I wish I remembered his name. Young, bald gentleman that was great!
Such a cute spot with great food, cocktails, and service. We come here often and the Sopa Azteca is one of my faves. 🤌🏼 Highly recommend this little gem in Bay Ridge.
Drinks were awesome, food was perfect- super cute spot. Two people served our table. I didn’t catch the woman’s name but the guy was Marto and they were both great. Marto was the sweetest, cutest. What a star. We will be back!
Ordered the paella, the grilled gambas special, and the lamb shank. All very good, expertly done, with touches that elevated the cuisine. Sauces and mole very good, taken seriously, obviously made with care in-house. Worth a trip, but since I live a few blocks away, it’s no burden at all. The pistachio tres leches cake also a winner. Service prompt and professional, and very warm too! Highly recommend.
Everything's a 10 out of 10 here! Vibes, food, cocktails, service. The food is sooooo fresh and good, and the cocktails are really unique and flavorful. Plus the dim pink lighting creates a fantasy ambiance!
Delicious food in an atmosphere that really feels like you've been transported. It's clear that this is a family-owned restaurant and they are cooking from the heart. It's also a great place for families. Delicious cocktails for the grownups and they managed to find something my super picky 7one-year-old would eat.
Food was great and the drinks were fun. The corn appetizer was amazing. The chips were alittle greasy but the guac and salsa(was sweet) were worth ordering. Frozen margaritas had a spicy kick. Burrito was the best I’ve had in Brooklyn. My two year old asks for this place by name- he’s a big fan of the Elote. Check this place out!
First time here and I’m glad I went! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing!!! We had the chorizo nachos with the works and it was probably the best nachos I’ve ever had. For the entree I had the Plato de Barro with shrimp & fish (10/10) and my bf had the dish with the short rib, chicken & chorizo. Soo good! The short rib was unlike anything we’ve ever had. We took the tres leches & churros to go cus we were so full but I snuck in a bite from both and they were also amazing. We will definitely be back
My wife and I were drawn in by the pink lighting over the bar, and we are so glad we stopped. The cocktails were fantastic (Holy Smoke and Chavela), and the food was delicious too (Pollo Al Pastor and Tinga Tacos). The staff was so friendly and attentive. We can't wait to come back.
I can’t believe this was my first time here even though I live down the block. I got the baja tacos which were so delightful, light, and crispy in all the right places and the paella Mexican which was also delicious.
Great food, great drinks, great people. Family owned and ruined. Local treasure
So as a food guru literally foodiessss with my fiancé we tried this place last night because it was recommended . I will say the spicy margarita was absolutely delicious. The Paloma could’ve been way stronger. The service was phenomenal. Hibiscus was good as compared to another place, almost as good. The nachos were delicious and the chips were homemade. the quesadillas I felt were not filling enough they could’ve been more packed I couldn’t tell there was any chicken in them Very thin . They do not just give you chips and salsa unlike other restaurants Who still do that which is proper protocol usually for Mexican cuisine they’re not supposed to charge you. This is irritating me everywhere I go usually, they put them on the table.
Delicious food! Service was great. Servers came to the table frequently and were attentive. The vibe during the evening is great. Loved the music
Food is great and prices are very reasonable. Atmosphere is a lot of fun. Great neighborhood restaurant.
My mom and I enjoyed an excellent dinner here on Christmas Eve. The service was attentive and friendly, the cocktails were refreshing, and the food was delicious. I’m so glad I live nearby!
had Azteca soup with chicken, was very good, spicy just right enough and warm - all you need on a cold day. Fish taco was a good finisher, seems that they make tortillas in the house!
I passed by this restaurant so many times, and finally tonight I went in. It felt like I went through a portal to visit my family back in Guanajuato, Mx. The food was not only absolutely delicious, it was fresh and the QUALITY of the food was clearly noted. The guacamole was fresh and it wasn’t made with anything unknown (some restaurants are adding cream or something else-stop that!), the chips were mini corn tortillas, the salsa was fresh and tasted like chipotle salsa. My husband had mole chicken tacos 🌮. The tortillas are freshly made, not your standard mass produced corn tortilla…looks and tastes like they’re made in house or homemade. The chicken in every dish we had was so tender, I usually have chicken this tender when it’s organic or extremely good quality chicken (and it was boneless). The soup was piping hot in temp and that’s exactly how I like my soup served. I appreciate the attention to the dishes the food is served in too (barro/clay) or beautifully decorated dish ware from Mexico. The vegetables in the soup were fresh, broth was light, not salty and the little toppings of cilantro, onion and limes add the perfect touch. The soup was served with 2 fresh tortillas. For desert, we ate the churros with chocolate 🍫 dip. I wanted a hot chocolate to go with all of it but that wasn’t an option. The service was on point too. The food came out so fast, the waitstaff was very attentive visiting the table every few mins to check in on us. I haven’t experienced service like this in a minute, and I visit quite a few restaurants in the same area. The decor reminds me if Mexico lindo, and the music was so good. I will be back again, and again. Fue un placer y una experiencia de primera clase en este restaurante. ❤️
Very very very delicious food. Everything on the menu was mind blowing. Friendly staff. Sampled everything on the menu and there were very few redundancies. Area inside was clean, backyard could have been a little better but at least the music was lower. Again the highlight was the perfect food, and considerate staff. Would eat here weekly.
Was walking by and saw this dim light restaurant with pink lights & it automatically caught my attention. Super intimate vibes, candle lit dinner, pink lights over the bar, AMAZING food & friendly & attentive bartender; what else could you ask for? I got the tamales verde & ended up ordering TWO more orders, they were so flavorful with the right amount of spice, i couldn’t be happier. 10/10 recommend!
I checked this restaurant after seeing it recommend in a Facebook group by more than one person. I am writing this review to let you know I'll be back!! It definitely exceeded my expectations. The food was wow and well priced. Staff was nice and the decor is charming also they have happy hour 4-7! Check it out!! Asap!! ☺️☺️☺️
The atmosphere is great, the waiters are friendly and make you feel welcomed. The backyard makes you feel like if your actually in Mexico. They make homemade tortillas. The first time I went I ordered steak tacos, they were very good. I also had frozen tamarin margarita, it was okay, very strong with liquor. I was not crazy for the memelas, not enough cheese, maybe? The tres leches cake was super sweet. I will be going back to taste other dishes.
The food was good but the beers weren't so cold which I complained and they gave me a chilled mug. Which didn't make a difference.
Good food and service. Interior has an impressive aesthetic, Mexican-style. There's also a nice outdoor space in the back for dining outside. If you like tequila and don't mind spending the money, they have a strong selection. The restaurant is a little pricey overall. A friend was annoyed that a service charge was already added to the bill without any warning. We came very close to adding a tip on top of that before we noticed. Summary: Nice place but in terms of value, there are better places all around the neighboring Sunset Park.
The food was good and I was glad to find the margarita was not a mix for happy hour! I had 1 taco, 1 Gordita taco, and tostones, and I found them all good. My girlfriend had the slow cooked pork, and only complaint was the beans needed more flavor. Good experience. I wish the menu was a bit more detailed. And the young gentleman waiter was the best tonight.
Food was great! I think our server was working by himself and doing everything so things took a little longer.
Absolutely loved my experience here! The attention to detail was spot on, and everything felt perfectly curated. I was really impressed with [mention something specific, e.g., the quick service, the quality of the product, the friendly staff]. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking for [mention what it's good for, e.g., a relaxing evening, a unique gift, reliable advice]. Can't wait to come back!
A hidden gem with decently priced food and good options. The backyard is nice and since the heated lamps are out front in the box-patio, they brought a portable one out for us. They even had vegan tacos (with oyster mushrooms). The sweet plantains (maduros) and tostanos were good and the chicken quesadilla was okay but a little dry. One main negative though was how small of a serving their margarita was (see pic) - they say it’s the same ounces but there’s a lot of ice in it so it wasn’t worth it.
It’s unfair adding gratuity for a table of 5 especially when the waiter made a mess , had to retake our order and the only table being served. The bill was $120 , mandatory $26.13 for service that was bad? You can hear the server have a really load conversation with coworker. Max i would tip would be %10 for bad service, not 20%. This me giving a fair review especially when I worked in the food industry. Also the menus could be better. The food was amazing for the size and taste ,service was bad. Floors were pretty bad too.
The food was really good as I’ve ordered with them before however this night our waiter was very drunk. The other guys tried covering for him but it was very hard not to realize things were going.
greasy and flavors were off. Salsa was very sweet and tasted like it was store bought. Had the enchiladas and huevos rancheros, we went at lunch, maybe dinner chef is better! Service was nice.
The restaurant is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. They prepare Mexican cuisine. They have several tables for dining in with servers. Soups 🍲, salads, entrees, tacos, tortillas, tamales, burritos, quesadillas, sides, desserts and beverages are available. I ordered an avocado 🥑 salad 🥗 and two entrees with rice 🍚 and black beans 🫘. The food was average in taste and flavor.
They charged me $6 for additional 6 chips that they gave me to go with my guac and chips ($15) which for some unfathomable reason comes with only 3 chips. How am I supposed to eat a bowl of guacamole (which is oversalted) with 3 chips. And does it make sense to charge the customer $1/extra chip and not even tell them? I didn't know there was an additional charge. It just feels dishonest and greedy. What a let down. The food is decent but I will not be returning. I can't support a place that is trying to fool their customers. The fish does taste fresh but sauce and guac is oversalted which leaves me feeling very thirsty afterwards. The waitstaff are nice.
Honestly, the brunch service was terrible, as was the waiter's attitude. You order appetizers, and 10 minutes pass before they tell you they don't have them. You order something else, and they don't have it either. You order your main course, and 15 minutes pass before they come to tell you they don't have it either. I really don't recommend it. The service is awful, and the waiter was rude. Very, very bad.
I go here often with friends and family but this night the waitress rubbed me the wrong way I got there and ordered quickly. I was three sips away finishing my 1st drink during happy hour, so I ordered my next one.. while I was waiting I was feeding my son and the waitress comes up to me with my drink and shouts, “No! YOU CANT ORDER A DRINK WHEN YOU'RE NOT EVEN DONE, I explained to her I’m feeding my child and I’m about to be finished. She then scolds me and says “my boss doesn’t like and allow that” and rudely hands over my drink when I was about to finish my FIRST ONE. I’m am dissatisfied with her service and attitude. I still tipped $20 IN CASH but to the other worker who suddenly started serving my table after she acted nasty to me, he was attentive and gave good service NOT HER. She was A older Hispanic woman.
False representation and scammy business practices. They advertise 35$ bottomless brunch 90 mins on their website then charge 40$ in person with only 60 mins. The waiter purposely tried to stall us out several times giving horrible service then at the end after saying our time is up and only giving us 3 watered down drinks they forced 20% gratuity for a party of 2 without even saying that policy on menu. Food was disgusting staff was rude. Go to one of the other great places in this neighborhood and stay away.
Staff is not friendly & very rude. Especially the waiter with the eyebrow piercing. Our party politely said our glasses were dirty & he became very rude, hostile, and condescending. Their food is decent but the staff is unprofessional.
Today I got a table here and suddenly they needed my table for a “reservation.” Just because I was by myself and all the other tables were in big groups. I felt picked on. So I had to leave and I did not finish my food. The drink I ordered didn’t even arrive to my table yet and they initially wanted to charge the drink that I never had. They offered it as a complimentary drink after but I did not want anything to do with it. I used to love everything about this restaurant because it was a local business by my house... but now I will never come here ever again.
1st time here, I probably came on a bad day. My family & I waited 30 mins for our drinks then I get half of a margarita and get charged $16.00, after close to 1 hour wait for our food, I had to cancel our order and go somewhere else to dine. I understand they were under staffed, if that’s the case just close the restaurant that day instead of over charging and making customers experience unpleasant!!
Whoever is writing these great fake reviews just made me and my family waste almost 3 hours of our life at this terrible place. Where do I start!? I made reservations and when we got there they told us there was only a table left outside in the street when I Specifically requested the backyard patio. Finally with some persuasion they threw together a wobbly table with a few chairs and put us in the backyard.. Barely any staff or help to be found on a Saturday night. Took 25 minutes to get sodas that were grossly warm and a SOUR mango margarita that they refused to take off my bill because according to the older woman that owns the place- “It was good”..umm ok! what happened to the customer is always right?? Another 40 or so minutes later my daughters request for simple steak and cheese tacos Came out covered in tons of cilantro with no cheese, they forgot my husbands octopus and the chicken enchiladas I got were enough to set even the devils throat on fire! Did not complain about them but needless to say I left starving..the only good thing was their chips and guacamole. Literally..so all in all this place was an epic fail much better places to try in the neighborhood..tried to give a small business my business but regretted my decision in the end.. DO NOT GO!!!! You’ve been warned..your welcome. PS- their paper menus were so old and crusty we didn’t even want to touch them..they must’ve been reused a thousand times..so nasty.. it’s paper people..print some more and be sanitary especially coming out of a pandemic!
After my favorite Mexican spot was permanently closed, I decided to give this place a try. I ordered the chicken and shrimp burrito. It arrived with chicken ONLY and they charged me $24!!! Which for even chicken and shrimp is steep. I call the restaurant back to let them know and the man on the phone tells the cook and I hear the cook in the background saying he put shrimp. So I send a picture and the man tells the cook he sees there is NO shrimp in my burrito and they began to go back and forth. This is so frustrating because at this point I’m STARVING. So I eat half the burrito, but I still wanted the shrimp I PAID for. They told me they will refund 1/2, cool whatever. Delivery driver was rude to my co worker who let him know I’m coming up after he asked for me to bring him the other half of my burrito?? So weird, but whatever so I bring it up to exchange. He had such a NASTY attitude from the moment I walked out to. So we go back and forth and he calls me FAT in spans because half the burrito was eaten (FYI restaurant was aware before bringing a new one, soo…) so we get into a heated argument and my male coworker had to step in and he begins insulting him and being just fat out unprofessional. Mind you this happened at my place of work where they could have gotten sooo much business had this not happened. I’m sure this restaurant won’t be around long.
Well we planned a birthday reservation for Thursday and made a booking on resy which booked it for 12:15. They apparently don’t open the place until 1pm. We had to find an alternative. I did swing by around 1:15 to let the guy know that they probably should fix that on resy and his response: well you should have checked hours . We open at 1. Extremely rude and uncaring.
The restaurant had only two waiters on a Friday night. I felt sorry for them so busy that our waiter was dripping in sweat. We waited over 50 minutes for our main course. We ordered enchiladas. The beans were tasteless. The enchilada was also bland. The guacamole was also terrible they added too much lime. We asked for a margarita with tajin, and no tajin and no tequila in the drink, and no straw. Go somewhere else where the food and drinks are better, because this place stinks.
Now that tacos por favor has opened up in the neighborhood, there is absolutely no reason to order from this place. (Seriously) We ordered six tacos. It came out to $35. They tasted like dry dog food. They were dry and horrible. Their salsa Verde is gross it was just so bad and so expensive ! Not to mention one of the staff , some little guy is very rude . Tacos por favor , 26 dollars and not that they are the most incredible tacos in the world. But they are fresh, tasty and yummy. And their house burrito is on fire ! Just make sure that they have Chipotle sauce made because it's supposed to come with their stuff and sometimes they run out of it .
Spent seventeen dollars on a mojito that was made horribly. Had to wait fifteen minutes before getting my drink. The drink was rushed when made and the mint was not even crushed into the drink. Drink tasted like plain sour mix with no rum added whatsoever and no taste of mint. Felt cheated out of my money. My daughter in law ordered a sangria and it was equally terrible. Do not recommend this place. Never returning to this bar, restaurant ever again.
