Best food at coney island. Good Mexican food with huge portions at reasonable prices (cash only tho). They can be slow though so if you see a dozen people in line be prepared to wait 20 or 30 mins.

Tried 3 tacos all different all very good! Very generous portions and my favorite was the fried pulled pork taco! Super savory! Recommend

Huge portions, tasty food. You know a Mexican spot is legit when it's all Mexicans eating there. The cemitas are good for 2 people, maybe 3. Try the elotes and hot dogs as well, all good food.

The BEST Mexican food in Coney Island. I come here all the time. All the workers are always super nice and welcoming. I take everyone I know here & I recommend everyone i know to go here!

This is the best cemita I've eaten outside of Puebla, Mexico itself. I never feel inclined to leave reviews but this place blew me out of the water. If you love authentic Mexican food, do not miss this place!

Absolutely loved the food ams atmosphere! Fresh and flavorful foodnwith generous sides of radish slices, lemon wedges, and salsa. Topped with Fresh Oaxaca cheese. A short brisk 5 min walk from Luna park. Prices very reasonable for the quality and promptness of food served. We had mushroom/veggie quesadillas and veggie tacos. The owners definitely pride themselves in their art of cooking and customer service.

Best thing to eat on Coney Island don’t even waste your time or money on the other stuff. Great food nice people nice and clean

Best Mexican in brooklyn hands down. The order linr is a bit confusing for newcomers. Your order right from the chefs at the grill and not at the register. This place is only open in the summer and we go at least once. Is worth the trip from Jersey and being at Coney Island is always a fun time. Get the elote and ask for a plate, put a lil crema and green salsa on it. I swear. Go to dish is veggie gordita with everything. But i see the tacos and cemitas fly out of there. It gets super crowded on semi busy days so if you can try and go midweek early lunch to mid day. Only minus is how loud they play their music. There is seating.

Doña Zita's is by far the best authentic Mexican food in Brooklyn, if not all of New York. I have been coming to them for over 10 years. I crave their food during the off season! I always get an elote, and a gordita. I dont even eat meat so I get the vegetarian option but if you are a meat eater you wont be dissapointed. Just looking at it makes me want to eat meat again lol. They have tacos, cemitas, flautas, gorditas, tortas, and more all loaded with fresh oaxaca cheese, avocado, beans, lettuce tomato, onions and your choice of meat (or non meat!) They also have crema, green and red salsa, pico de gallo, chiles, limes, and radish you can on the side that you can help yourself to and add on your meal. They also have traditional Drinks like horchatas, Jamaica, agua fresca and more as well as Your regular soda, sports drink, water, etc..! Forget Nathan's hot dogs, Doña Zita's is where its at! If you go to Coney Island make sure to stop by and grab some of the best Mexican food on the east coast!

I stumbled on this place, completely on a whim. Coming all the way from Bushwick....by far the one of the best Mexican food places in NYC. The location doesn't match the quality of food. Everything is made to order, friendly service and an obvious family business. Even the kids were helping out! Won't be the last time! Must try!!!

I have been a loyal customer since they first opened - about 10 years ago. Their food never disappoints. Its authentic, delicious, and huge. You definitely get the biggest bang for your buck. Since it is located near a busy and tourist area, it is a little expensive as far as inner city Mexican street food goes. Their menu is limited to tortas, cemitas, picaditas, and of course - tacos. I recommend the Gordita de Chicharrón. Its seasoned corn flour mixed with pork rinds and then deep fried. Its then sliced in half, cutlet style, and filled with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese. They have a tiny condiment station where you can choose your salsas and toppings for FREE - pico de gallo, red sauce, green sauce, radishes. Try the seasoned dried chiles for an extra kick. You will not be disappointed and full for the rest of the day! Its guaranteed. See a picture of their Cemita de milanesa de pollo (breaded chicken).

This restaurant is a must-visit destination. The tacos de Birria are exceptional. The service is outstanding. Fast and easy. Ron, the cook, is notably kind, patient, and attentive. If you are in Coney Island and desire tacos, burritos, or street corn, this establishment is highly recommended.

A family run Mexican cafe on the historic and most likely to be soon to be destroyed Bowery in Coney Island. The NY City Councl are considering putting a casino in and have "de-mapped" The Bowery. See it and experience a vestige of authentic old school NYC culture before yet another onslaught eradicates it. The food is fresh and tasty, the service is efficient and polite, the place is clean. A hardworking family business keeping NYC culture alive. Think it will be allowed to thrive much longer?

Glad to see Mexican food represented at coney island. May you still be there in a 100 years. We were big fans of the cemita (exponentially better than any hot dog, even Mexican hotdogs). FYI, they come spicy!

Last time I got a carnitas torta and it was excellent do knew that today when I found myself hungry on the boardwalk this place would hit the spot. I grabbed an order of the tacos de birria and..... yep, totally amazing, and frank the dog approved. Always share my snacks with him when we're on adventures. Tortillas were soft but crispy, if that makes sense. Meat was amazing. Didn't lean to hard on cheese to do any lifting, was just a nice compliment. Onion and cilantro fresh, with a comsume....h far had rice and a few beans in it?? I don't know, but I'm the kind of person to drink the consume after so that was kinda fun to find. Will totally go back when I'm in the mood for Mexican at coney.

Didn’t know this place existed until my cousin told me about it. The people are very nice and the music is amazing some throwbacks I was listening to. The food is fresh and tasty. I shared a chicken torta with my mom because it’s a lot for me but I will come back to bring my family for sure. Yum yum! Worth it for your $$

This sandwich made me SO happy. Sure it might have been a little heavy on the cheese, but who am I to complain about that? The carnitas were flavorful and tender, the toppings were fresh and perfectly complemented the meat, and the sandwich was altogether very well wrapped. It's also enormous, so definitely consider sharing. It is cash only.

Came for lunch to get cemitas and a mango Boing. Flavors were amazing, fresh ingredients, food came up fast and was huge! I'd recommend splitting with someone for sure. Service was good, prices very reasonable and the atmosphere was nice. The only suggestion I would have is to police the bathroom a bit more, as it was pretty gross and we were the only people there at the time. Will definitely come back.

📍 Dona Zita – 1221 Bowery St, Brooklyn, NY 11224 📸: Coney Island hidden gem 🌶️🌽🥪 Stopped by Dona Zita for a flavor bomb of a meal and left seriously impressed. I ordered the Pork Cemita — a beautiful sesame seed bun stacked with tender pork, Oaxaca cheese, creamy avocado, onion, papalo, chipotle, and mayo. This was hands down the best Cemita I’ve ever had. Every bite had that perfect mix of smokey heat, richness, and crunch. 💯🔥 And let’s talk about their Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Elotes… they did it RIGHT. Spicy, cheesy, creamy, crunchy — everything you want in street corn and then some. 🌽🔥 If you're near Coney Island and looking for some real-deal Mexican street food vibes, Dona Zita is a must. 🌊🌮💥 #DonaZita #ConeyIslandEats #CemitaCravings #FlaminHotElotes #BrooklynEats #NYCFoodie #StreetFoodGoals #FoodieInTheBigApple2025

The owners are are TOP TIER! Their food is always consistently delicious! My go to is the veggie nachos. But, my husband loves their Berria tacos. My boys love the guacamole! The hospitality and atmosphere is honestly the best in Coney Island!

They must have just reopened for the season, because I was the only one there and one of a few random people strolling the Bowery. It was a beautiful day for a walk and I was quite hungry. Seeing a beloved local spot open and ready to serve up some fresh food was a most welcome sight. I ordered two chicken tacos, and waited only about 5 minutes while they were made hot and fresh. I was presented with the option of red and green salsas and was warned that the red was spicy. That’s fine by me! I had one taco with red and one with green—picante y sin picante! They also offered a bottle of crema and a bowl of fresh pico de gallo. They left me to use the condiments at my discretion. Next time I’ll use more pico because that was sooo good! Anyway, my food was so delicious and hot and I really enjoyed it. Glad to sit there and take in the good food, and the wonderful ambience of the warm, breezy day. Glad I finally got out to this place. I’ve been a local for 3 years and it was my first time, but definitely won’t be my last! By the way, if you support little businesses like this in Coney Island, go out and support them! They even deliver! And remember, if you want the Bowery to continue existing and places like Doña Zita to be around for generations to come, DO NOT support the casino being built here. The entire Bowery will be flattened and much of the remains of Coney history will be destroyed. Support local! Support Doña Zita’s! ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽

Great for a quick bite when visiting the boardwalks. The prices are good and you get a good amount of food for your money. Annoyingly some of the drinks you'd expect from a Mexican location (eg horchata) are only sold in the restaurant next door, which I'm almost sure is owned by the same people. So you have to order the food on one side and the "authentic" drinks on the other. It doesn't make too much sense but it's only a minor annoyance for good food.

B
Beatriz Gutierrez

:-) The food tastes good , not a long wait to get your order & the prices aren't bad. :-( Have to wait for seating for a bit if you want to eat there and the motorcycle club next door are very loud and rude.

Torta (chicken) AMAZING!!! With there red sauce on the side... I eat this once a week and than think about how good it is for the rest of the week until I can't anymore and than I got to get another one the following week. The atmosphere I really could not care for and the music I feel is a bit loud at times in my opinion. But I definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Mexican tortas.

We found this place a couple years ago during a visit to Coney Island and fell in love. They were closed during the winter so we were excited to see them open again this weekend. The food is just as good as always, but the prices are much higher, now $15/cemita. Tacos are $5/each. They were cash only when we went. There is an atm on site but note it charges $4.75 in fee.

Great Vegan-Friendly Find off the Boardwalk! I was searching for a vegan-friendly meal near the Coney Island boardwalk, which isn’t easy—most places don’t offer much beyond fries. Luckily, I found this Mexican restaurant just off the boardwalk and decided to give it a shot. I ordered two vegetarian soft shell tacos and asked the staff to make them vegan by leaving out any dairy like cheese and sour cream. They were super accommodating. I honestly didn’t expect much and thought two tacos might not be enough—but the portions were generous and super satisfying. The tacos were fresh, flavorful, and totally hit the spot. I’m really glad I found this place and got two! Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for vegetarian or vegan options near the boardwalk

Tacos are normal but cemitas are definitely iconic! They are huge and a not-so-common dish to have at Coney Island.

Service was okay. You have to remind them you're there.

a
alfredo torres

Their known for their tacos but the rest of the food is alright you can't expect to eat a quesadilla with a knife and fork. The inside was raw and my wife ordered a torta made from a roll not actual pan de torta. Everything falls apart because it has soOoo much quesillo only the cemita should 1 lbs of quesillo not a torta

Y
Yarely

I come to this place once a year. Their prices go up every year and are ridiculous. I order a gordita with chicharon and they did not have chicharon available. I decide to order chicken flautas. After 20 min. wait, I get a plate that looked like a large salad. After digging under strings of Oaxacan cheese, black beans, 2 slices of tomatoes, large strips of avocado, grated cheese and cream, I finally find the flautas. Theae are actually deep fried chicken tacos--not flautas. Just returned from Mexico and had real flautas. They are long, thin rolled up deep fried tacos spread with cream, shredded lettuce and cheese w your choice of spicy salsa. Anyway, the tortilla tasted rancid and the chicken inside was overcooked and flavorless. I was so hungry and tired of waiting, I did not get up to complain. This was more like a taco salad. Their green sauce was not spicy at all and my husband ordered a cemita which was mediocre and flavorless. The only plus was a very good tasting Jamaica water. Better off going to Nathans next time. Not a place will return to.

I had mexican food before and this food was straight up disgusting. The chicken was bland no seasonings at all. I thought at first I was eating pork, I had to smell the meat to make sure it was not. HORRIBLE I WOULD NOT BE GOING THERE EVER AGAIN. I READ THE REVIEWS AND EVERYONE GIVING THIS PLACE 4 TO 5 STARS I GUESS THEY NEVER HAD REAL MEXICAN FOOD.

My New Review 2021-04-27: After being unemployed due to Pandemic and on a very limited budget from my savings to live off of until the job market improves and pandemic subsides, I decided to splurge and get a few street tacos from an excellent and as close to authentic Mexican restaurant that I used to frequent in Coney. Although in the area nearby on Coney Island Avenue there are just as good and cheaper alternatives, I felt it was a good time to go visit a place I used to go to multiple times weekly every summer but sadly haven't been to since the start of the pandemic. The quality here is still great, but sadly, once again, prices have gone up (yes, I reviewed this place with 5 stars in 2019 but mentioned the costs for a taco was already pretty high -- see below). Now, and to my amazement, the taco is priced at $4 each!! This is an outdoor vendor, not some Manhattan dine-in restaurant with table service that offers water, utensils and silverware. What we have here is that the owners are trying to make up for (probably) INSANE rent that is charged in Coney Island (look around at everything that opens and goes out of business and blames the rents as per all news outlets). Sadly, this will push me and I'm sure MANY other loyal customers to other more affordable alternatives nearby,,or just spend less. This fact couldn't be more true ESPECIALLY in this pandemic where the economy which was once a beast with almost full employment to now many people here in Brooklyn are now on government public assistance just to get by due to this pandemic. NOTE TO OWNERS OF DON ZITA: YOU HAVE SOMETHING GREAT, DON'T SCARE AWAY PEOPLE WITH $4 TACOS AND JACKING PRICES ON EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE MENU JUST TO MAKE UP FOR LOSSES ELSEWHERE, FORCED CLOSURES, AND HIGH RENT IN CONEY. WE ARE ALL HURTING, NOW MORE THAN EVER. YOU ARE LUCKY TO HAVE CUSTOMERS, KEEP THEM, DON'T FORCE THEM TO MAKE DECISIONS BECAUSE OF GREED...OR SIMPLY MOVE TO A LOCATION MORE COST EFFECTIVE FOR YOU. I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY, BUT I DON'T WANT TO BE ROBBED FOR MEXICAN FOOD. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Old Review - Written start of summer 2019: Getting too expensive, I won't be returning like I used to go.

Z Davis

July 18 1:54p second time here and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as the first time. Had to delete my first review; made a minor mistake the female cashier made it a big deal (based off her attitude clearly she was having a bad day). The employees seemed more concerned about socializing amongst themselves vs my food. The cashier decided to argue with me over the mistake so I’ll NEVER be back again. There tacos aren’t good enough for them to be acting like. Stopped by Taqueria where they treated me with alil more respect

Went to Coney Island and wanted some real food so we letras some good reviews and came oh well place is clean and has space for seating but the food on our point was bad my husband and I are Mexican and this food was Mexican but there was no flavor on the meat not even salt I order cemita carne bastek and it has little meat and like a pound or more of queso oaxaca it was bad my husband got the carne enchilada cemita couldn’t even eat it we don’t like to nag to the people who sold it but I’ll leave a honest review we only ate half for 15$ I would have loved to get less cheese more meat the people working here are nice but the food not good not for us the white part is cheese the brown is meat
