Came here on a Wednesday evening and didn’t have to wait long for a table. The tacos and birria are really good and enough for two people to share. The cocktails were also delicious and came with free shots for a sponsor (which was nice). Will definitely be back to try more of their options in the future!
I found this place after COVID -19, great atmosphere. They have homemade authentic tortillas. I had steak tacos, they were good, salmon and guacamole had great flavors. We had two drinks the tamarin margarita (I didn’t like) and I forgot the other drinks name was good. They have outside dining, one in front and one in the back. The dinning in the back is very nice but the mosquitos were strong that day.
Experience was everything! The food was amazing and the drinks were even better.. sat at the bar and the bartender was soo nice and helpful with recommendations. To start we had the Al pastor tacos and Croquetas. The mojito was so refreshing I had two and the watermelon margarita was delicious as well. The enchiladas de mole were made to perfection with the side of sweet plantain and esquite it definitely hit the spot. For dessert had the tres leches and a caramel flan both were wonderful! Endless to say the food and drinks were a 100/10 and will definitely come back!!!
This is literally my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. I discovered this place through a friend over 10 years and have been back numerous times. I can say that I've never had a disappointing meal there. The flavors are amazing and the drinks are on point. Always make sure you get the guac and the queso fondito. Favorite meal is the camorones abogados (I might be off with the spelling). Also, do not skip the brunch.
I stopped in for the first time last weekend for lunch. The food and service here is truly outstanding. Everything I ordered from my Rosilita Margarita (which gave me a real nice buzz) to the salmon main course was absolutely delicious. I am not really a rice and beans kind of person, but the beans I had here were bursting with great flavor. The restaurant inside is very clean and a tad small, which seems to fill up pretty fast with customers, so it is highly recommended that you make a reservation. They also provide outdoor dining as well. I really enjoyed my first experience and look forward to dining here again in the future.
Just ate here with a group of friends. They have outdoor seating both in the front and back of the restaurant, as well as inside. The food is excellent, everything is fresh and home made, including their delicious spicy sauces and chips. I’ll definitely eat here again. Also they have a good selection of tequilas, as well as specialty drinks.
The service here was great! Friendly and always making sure that everything was OK. If you plan to go here, call or go on their site to reserve a table or you can be lucky like I was to get a table outside last minute. Food was great and the drinks were too. The margaritas are a good try! It was a bit pricey, but just being out and about these days makes it worth it! I will be going back again!
Loved the night time atmosphere. Our server was very attentive & kind. I lived in Mexico for 6 months & this place had great authentic food. Its not tex-mex so don’t expect that. Drinks were great. A bit pricey but totally worth it. One of the first placed I’ve seen to have Chiles en Nogada (a staple in MX during this time of yea only).
Been coming here at least 11 years and I always get the frozen Rosalita! Menu has changed over the years but I still love that they make their own tortillas from scratch. Compared to the other Mexican places (Chela, casa Azul) this is the OG. I’ve been to the various other Manhattan locations and the Park slope location just hits on another level. Thanks for keeping this gal well fed for so many years and here’s to many more! 🥂
Whoa. This place is good, good, good! I'm usually underwhelmed by Mexican restaurants in NYC, but Fonda is an exception. I put it on the same level as Casa Enrique in LIC. The space is small and seating is limited, so reservations are encouraged.
Fonda is always amazing and you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. The best margaritas that are fresh and authentic (even their skinny margarita is good, though I usually get their signature hibiscus, pictured here). I got the scallop special, which was absolutely delicious. I’ve gotten all sorts of things here over the years, from skirt steak, to enchiladas, taquitos, and tacos…to their queso fundito, which is to die for. Everything is good and it’s always bustling.
Let me just start with our host/ waiter; Carlos Benitez...he provided excellent service! All his recommendations were on point! The place is clean, cute & cozy. A variety of areas to be seated,; indoors /outdoors, street front / backyard. Food was delicious! Drinks were delightful! I'll definitely be back!🤗
Dinner at Fonda is always a good decision. The chips and guacamole are always excellent (try it spicy!) and the enchiladas suizas are the best in New York City. The flavor is so rich. The backyard seating is very nice and has great date night ambiance. The drinks are awesome too - my favorite is the rosalita.
Fantastic meal. We had two margaritas (watermelon and la piñata) both were made excellently. We ordered the huarache con hongos for an app (not pictured) which was great and a good take on a vegetarian app. I ordered the carnitas de Fonda and my wife had fish tacos. We’ll definitely be back.
This bar gets crowded very quickly as soon as 4pm comes around for happy hour. If you get a seat or its a lite traffic day consider yourself lucky! The drinks are very well made & excellent bartenders. This place is pricey for dinner, but the happy hour & brunch are fantastic. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, & provides great service.
Great service. Food was wonderful. Heaters kept us warm even though it was snowing as we ate outdoors.
Best French toast (it's on their brunch menu) I've ever had. The juevos Mexicanos we're also delicious. Definitely recommend!
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, and wildly delicious chicken mole. 10/10.
Had a great brunch. Drinks were tasty and strong!
My favorite brunch spot. I normally skip brunch in Brooklyn because the drinks are weak and I end up paying $50 for a breakfast I could make at home. But Fonda is the exception. It’s consistent, delicious and the service is great every time. Their brunch deal cannot be beat. Three delicious (strong) cocktails and an entree for $39. Fair warning: if you drink all three drinks, clear the rest of your day because you will be lit, full, and utterly useless. But that’s part of the experience. I’ve had almost every brunch entree, and each one is a banger. But I love the huevos rancheros the most. Lastly, the service. My glass has never been empty at Fonda. The servers always anticipate needs and do everything with a smile. They are fast too. Fonda, I love you, please never change!
Just wanted to give a shout-out to our favorite Mexican spot in Park Slope! Went last night with the hubby for a casual after work bite. Ended up having the best night out! The food and margaritas, as always, were delicious and the music was great. The manager Ruben and his entire team were super friendly and their attention to detail was spot on. Always appreciate the great service and lovely vibe there!
We went on a busy Sat night. We made reservations and arrived a little early. The main room was packed with people who looked very much like they were enjoying the choices. We waited five minutes and were led to a back space outdoors, enclosed and heated. You lose a little of the vibe of the place but gain quiet and a little more comfort. Between the four of us we had four different varieties of Margaritas. Each one was made tasty and not over strong. I hate when they make drinks so strong they no longer taste like what you ordered. These were all done right. and after one sip of my Tamarind Margarita I forgot how cold it was outside and just enjoyed my drink. The guacamole was delicious and unlike a different reviewers' experience, when we ran out of chips they gladly brought us more. Our main courses were again all delicious. I had Enchiladas. with a side of Esquites. The service was cheerful, helpful and attentive, even though we were outside in the back. That concerned me at first but turned out not to matter. So the final verdict is we will be back.
FONDA is our Happy Place! The food & margaritas are amazing! But the food wouldn’t taste as good if it weren’t for the service. We are regulars here and it’s always hot food, delicious, amazing margaritas and the best service by Orlando, Luis, and the bartenders who are also incredible. We love the entire Fonda crew!
Best elevated Mexican food in the neighborhood! This is where you want to bring your friends visiting from out of town. Really big menu with lots of options- highly rec sharing plates with the table. Great drinks, good service, love the back yard too!
Anytime I come with my friends, we are always taken care of here. My favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn. Always a good time here, the drinks are delicious, the food is great, and the ambiance is great!
Came last night for dinner and loved everything about it, our server was the sweetest person and everything was delicious. Definitely a great place <3
Excellent food, though definitely on the expensive end for Mexican food. Their beet + avocado salad is exceptional, as well as their guacamole. I know some people have reviewed complaining the portions are small but I ended up with leftovers and the guacamole was definitely a 2 person serving. Our server and the host were both so nice and attentive. Could have been that we were there very early on a rainy Tuesday for dinner and therefore were the only ones in there. But either way the service was excellent. I've been multiple times before and when it gets busy it gets BUSY. I would avoid this place for brunch and busy weekend nights unless you want to be crammed into a place with loud pumping music and where the full party needs to be present to be seated even though there's nowhere to wait.
Three of us stopped by this restaurant for a late weekday dinner, around 9–10 PM. It wasn’t very crowded, and we were seated right away. I wasn’t too hungry, so I ordered a bowl of guacamole served with pita chips and corn tortillas. It was fresh, with onion and cilantro, but nothing special—just a very standard guac. (I’ll admit I’m picky about Mexican food, having tried some of the best spots in Mexico City, so take that as a judgmental note!) My vegetarian friend ordered an enchilada and was satisfied, while another friend got a cheese fondue-style dish, served sizzling with toppings, which he enjoyed. The ambience was pleasant, and the service was good. That said, I was hoping for some street-style tacos, but the menu didn’t have them, and the server couldn’t confirm. Overall, it was an okay experience—my guacamole was fine but very basic.
Park Slope doesn't have a ton of options for great Mexican food and while Fonda is solid, it's not exceptional. The menu is definitely way more thoughtful and authentic than most, but dinner for two can easily get pricey. Recently, all of the dishes seem to be a little heavy-handed on sauces. They could use a slightly lighter touch so that you don't leave feeling weighed down. Their all you can drink brunch is a good deal though and it's a fun, lively atmosphere.
Great brunch spot, still dreaming and lusting for that shrimp with cilantro rice and creamy garlic sauce. Menu says it wasn’t available for brunch but it was definitely a popular dish from looking at the tables near us. There’s a brunch special which is a good deal, includes 3 drinks per person, which obviously isn’t ideal for everyone lol so make sure you go with people who handle their liquor. We sat in the backyard garden with really good overhead heaters. Only dislike was service, waiter seemed irritable and annoyed about how long it took for us to decide what to order, then failed to check or offer water throughout our meal. When paying the check, he stood directly above the card reader closely monitoring each tip which made us extremely uncomfortable.
Not bad at all, but nothing special. Little bit overpriced. But my drink was very good.
First time ever at this place and was overall pleased. The drinks were good, the tortilla soup was delicious and the entrees were very good. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Fonda is a cute spot. Our waitress Angie was friendly and knowledgeable abt the menu. Gave good recommendations. The margaritas here are no joke. Nothing watered down here, you a getting that tequila baby. Lol. The guac was great. They make homemade tortillas!! I am not a flan person at all but theirs is so good! Also had the Pollo Horteño and that was delicious!! Chicken was tender and flavorful, plus the homemade tortilla that came in these cute containers to keep them warm?! ::chef's kiss:: Had the Mango Summer classic Margarita and that was slightly sweet with the spicy rim for a kick. And tried the Rosalita, this one is for anyone who wants more liquor. Packed a punch lol.
Food and drinka were great, but I’m taking one star off because the host was a bit rude. Apart from this, everything was nice. You gotta try their cocktails - Hibiscus Margarita and Avenue B were amazing.
The food here is absolutely DELICIOUS. I had scallops and shrimp which was seasoned to perfection. My friends' meals were wonderful as well. I'm only taking a star off because when making the reservation over the phone, I was NOT told that we had to be finished eating in 2 hours. Additionally, initially the manager was curt in his explanation and simply said "that should be more than enough time!" Under normal circumstances, 2 hours during time would be sufficient. However, I was meeting with close friends that I haven't seen in months and so we had lots to catch up on. At any rate, I guess someone was running late because about an hour later, the manager came over with a much better disposition and granted us a half an hour more...
Vegan options! When ordering the guacamole, be sure to request it without cheese. Sit outside if are able—the small interior of restaurant can be loud. Nice happy hour & brunch choices, too!
The flautas were flavorful and the carnitas were juicy, but for this price I expected a little more wow.
It was good. The $15-$17 tacos contain 2/3 of a full taco. Appetizers were good. The quac was really nice. The molten cheese thingy (sorry I forgot the name 😅) was very good. Maybe im hating a little bit to much on tacos, just my family member makes by My opinion Way better tacos.
Got a couple of drinks. Rosalita was strong and good. The La Piñata was also pretty good. The guac was very small, and served in a weird stone mortar with tons of holes that the guac would fill up. The chips were a bit stale. For $15 guac, it’s definitely not good enough in size or taste. The enchiladas suizas was good as well as the enchiladas de mole. The service was pretty bad, server would check in on the few tables around us then disappear for over 10 min. We had to request the check from another server to get to our movie on time. Will not be coming back. TL;DR: Drinks are ok, avoid guacamole, enchiladas were good. Service wasn’t good.
First time at Fonda's. Our server was Joffre. My wife and I saw the Google reviews and figured let's give them a try. We have done over 10 Mexican restaurants in the last 2 years throughout New York City since this is her favorite type of food. For appetizers we ordered the chips and guac which tasted good but the portion was a severe disappointment. As the pictures will show the guacamole bowl was only 3/4 of an inch filled as you can see by the residual marks. We ordered tacos. My wife and I had the steak tacos and our son had the fish tacos. Tacos were good. We all got ginger ale with a glass of ice and as you can see from one of those pictures the ice cup had a human hair in it which matched our waiters hair to the t, as none of us at the table had hair similar to this strand. After calling him (Joffre) over and pointing to the hair in the cup and saying it to him in Spanish there is a hair(2 inches) in my cup to not draw the attention of other patrons. Telling him "pelo" and pointing to it because he acted like he couldn't see it until I took out my phone and took a picture and showed him on zoom. Instead of being cordial and apologetic he took the glass and said I'll replace it. No apology, no sorry for the disgusting long long hair in your cup. He came back with a new cup of ice but this second cup of ice also had debris in it. At that point I just decided to share my glass of ice and drinks with my wife and leave the filthy cup at the table as a bell weather. We paid and still tipped the waiter for his poor actions and service. We will not be back as this was a disappointment.
This has been my favorite spot to grab a margarita. Personally I’ve always enjoyed the food, especially the tortilla soup. I have never encountered any issues regarding service, the staff has been repeatedly friendly and kind. Unfortunately on two separate occasions there was a roach on the wall, and for the sake of the margaritas I could try to move past that, this is NYC. However, on my last visit there was a mouse roaming the floor in the bar area with at least six patrons still seated in the restaurant. I would love to return to Fonda, but for the above reason my most recent visit will sadly be my last.
I was so excited for Mexican night... What an overall letdown! JS3.5 The Spicy Blood Orange margarita was a JS8.2! The Strawberry mojito JS0.0... The beginning of the end... This drink was just poorly made and was sent back. The guacamole was good at a JS8.0. It was all about the amazing chips, sause and mini tortias. Pico de Gallo, JS3.1.. should have been called onion salad... Grilled fish tacos JS0.0... They arrived with a smell that made us think the fish may have turned, and our first bite had them headed back to the kitchen ... Ensalada De Aguacate Y Zanahorias... JS0.0 this was a sad moment for me.. There was a hair in the first bite if the salad.. A long, hair that was not mine... Esquitesz z Calabaza Con Colecitasz, JS4.4 Herradura Blanco, finally, something worthy of a JS9.2 The host was slightly annoying however our waitress Angie was very sweet!
The atmosphere in here was welcoming, service was efficient, drinks were yummy and restroom facilities were clean. My low rating was for the food. The eggs had no salt and there was no salt on the table. The chilaquiles were terrible. The sauce was tart and salty. No one in our party finished theirs.
Came for happy hour margaritas but was disappointed by how strict they were on these specials being at the bar only. Enjoyed the frozen rosalita, but it’s not worth the non happy hour price. Service wasn’t great—water was provided right away at the bar but we had to ask for it at our table. Despite arriving at 4pm on a Sunday, the host made a group of 5 without a reservation seem extremely inconvenient (despite a mostly empty restaurant then). Our server kept trying to up sell and while the food was good, I’m not sure it’s worth the prices either.
Let me preface this one star review by saying I really like this place. The food and drink are both great. The reason for the low rating? I ordered the guacamole for two for 16$ recently and got this (attached photo). It was enough for 4 chips each. Full bucket of chips after finishing. When it came out I asked the server if he was sure this was the guac for 2. He confirmed. I flagged the head waiter and he said the same thing. No apologies, just the way it is. This is the biggest rip off I've seen at a restaurant in a while. Avocados aren't that expensive. I'll still come back, but never ordering the guac again.
Food was ok, but they gave my daughter gluten and she is celiac and we specified she had celiac and they still gave her gluten.
