Kimchi Kooks ruined store-bought kimchi for me. There’s no going back. This is the kind of kimchi that’s alive in the best way: perfectly fermented, punchy but balanced, spicy without bullying, and somehow gets better every day it sits in your fridge. You eat it straight from the jar, then start putting it on everything. Two things I love (besides the kimchi itself): 🥬 The jar return program — bring back an empty jar and get $1 back. Sustainable and satisfying. 🥬 The giant jar — yes, it’s $26, but it’s enormous and absolutely worth it if kimchi is a staple in your house (it will be). Heads up: their store hours are a little finicky, very “small, excellent business” energy. But! You can reliably find them at the Park Slope Farmers Market on Sundays and at the Park Slope Food Coop, so no excuses. This is neighborhood kimchi with serious standards. Once you try it, you’ll start quietly judging other kimchis — and you won’t be wrong.
The kimchi is soooo good. Handcrafted, fresh, raw, and gluten-free. Believe me or not when I had a crazy diarrhea week it actually cured me (LOL) because it’s full of probiotics. It’s so flavorful, so tasty, I can eat one jar a day! I also love their dubu jorim (tofu). Highly recommend this small local business in Brooklyn!
Some of the freshest Korean food I’ve ever had in NYC! I absolutely love the new weekly menu approach this research has. In my experience, it’s kept the food interesting and appealing and has a quality that is hard to beat. Additionally, they have a wonderful selection of cold take-out meals available daily & a variety of different kimchi options. The staff is also incredibly kind. A little tip, after picking up your tasty food, take a walk down to the park or waterfront for a lovely picnic.
our first time coming here and the food was great. we got the memil guksu spicy and mild and both were really great. spicy was not spicy at all and actually could be even more. mild was great as well but not as flavorful as spicy. we also got the mushroom bulgogi and it was delicioussssss. the selection of cold dishes was great as well. not going to lie, it’s on the expensive side, but for such a small business i’m willing to pay. it’s also in an amazing location right next to the park where we sat on the grass and had a picnic. 100% recommend!
The food here is so delicious! I got the Chicken bokkum with kimchi and some rice. The rice and bokkum make such a good combination! I will definitely get more rice next time to enjoy the food even more.
Delicious kimchi! My favourite is traditional spicy kimchi and beet kimchi. Definitely worth trying.

In this past year and a half of the pandemic, supporting small businesses has taken on an outsized importance. Thankfully its so much easier when the small business is so good!!! When we saw Kimchi Kooks (Kates Kitchen) was moving into an empty storefront on Bay Ridge Parkway we got excited as it meant that there would be Korean food within a stones throw of us. We got even more excited when we tried it, as it was absolutely delicious. With a rotating menu, backed up with some standbys all the time, there's always something new to try and familiar dishes to come back to. The bokkum is delicious with beef, peppers, sauteed mushrooms and carrots with a heaping serving of kimchi. The kimchi by itself is also delicious, and freshly made, sold in jars ready for the taking and serving at home. I can't wait for more delicious fare from Kate and her delicious kitchen!
A neighborhood gem. I'd passed by here a few times on evening constitutionals, so I finally decided to check it out... I am so happy I did. The shop has a cute, comfortable atmosphere, the staff is exceedingly helpful, kind and knowledgeable, and most importantly the food is delicious. Lunch was gimbap rounded off with lotus root jorim and spinach namul. Thank you, Kimchi Kooks, looking forward to next time!
The food here is great and the staff are always friendly. Feels like getting home cooked food. Highly recommend!
Best Kimchi I've ever had. They have so much to choose from other than kimchi as well. Everything I've ever tried there has made me want to go back and get more. Love this place and love that they have a jar deposit as well so they are helping reduce waste. Overall excellent staff, great food, and well run business. What more could you ask for?
Kimchi Kooks is delicious. It opened the weekend my wife and I moved into the neighborhood, and we have stopped in a few times since. It's quickly becoming a weekend staple for an afternoon snack spot. Last weekend's specials: the Banquet Noodles, and fried chicken were delicious. The sauce was not too spicy, well balanced and full of flavor. This weekend I got a spicy and not spicy order of Spare Ribs and they both were flavorful, tender, and juicy. Please order spicy when there is the option too, because that sauce is incredible. I highly recommend stopping in to try their weekend specials, but also for their Bon Chon for everyday use or gifts for family or friends.
Thank you! The service was friendly and attentive, though there were a few moments when it took longer than expected to get our orders. Nevertheless, the staff's knowledge of the menu and willingness to explain dishes made up for any minor delays. They also graciously accommodated our dietary preferences, ensuring we had a memorable dining experience.
The best homemade kimchi and Korean comfort food. My kid is completely obsessed with their gimbap, so keep an eye on their weekend specials.
Best kimchi (both the og and the baby radish) in Brooklyn—really appreciate how it’s stored in glass containers!
Stand out Korean food in a quiet neighborhood. Kate is so welcoming. The menu items are made with top quality ingredients and the flavors are incredible. Truly a delight, as we travel to this area just to visit the store. We stock up our house with her kimchi and banchan, frequently. Order a menu item and enjoy it in the park. Definitely feeds the soul. We learned about her kimchi and food from the park slope market. Our fridge is never without Kate’s kimchi. Thank you, Kate!
Went there today for their pork bokkum and rice. The bokkum was so delicious and the meat in it was well marinated and felt like top quality. The black rice (bap) complimented the taste so well. Will definitely go back again whenever they make tteobokki and gimbap!
As a new resident to the neighborhood, this place gives me a little piece of home cooking. Good kimchi is hard to find, and most are poor imitations. Kate’s Kimchi is one of the best I’ve tried in a long time, and having it so close is brilliant. I’ve tried their Bibimbap and the Dubu Bokkum—both fantastic. If you’re like me and miss home cooking, but find it a hassle to drive into the city or to Queens, Kate’s Kitchen is a time saver. What a gem! Highly recommended. I just hope this place doesn’t get too popular.
Love their home style curries and the soup. I always get a few banchan too, great variety of kimchi, and the eggs and fish cakes are favorites too.

We ordered 2 of the bibimbap today, was super excited to try it but were quite disappointed when we opened the food. At $15 each, we were not expecting buffet portions, but the amount of beef was absurd. You may as well not call it a beef bibimbamp because there was that little beef in the dish itself. The flavors were good and we ordered ban Chan to go but I would not pay $15 for this again.

First time I stopped by over the summer on a Sunday afternoon, it was empty. Nobody in site and nothing on shelves. Second time I stopped by quite disappointed. Not your regular Korean place. Online menu is too small and too simple and not very Korean. Says weekly menu but every week is the same 5 items. For a true Korean eater, price is too high and food is not so Korean.
