Loved it. Sushi and sashimi were tasty and prepared well. I particularly enjoyed the hot and sour soup and the baked seafood appetizer. The staff are lovely, it is a great spot. Will definitely be back
Just stumbled across this place. Their lunch deal is amazing - fresh tasty food and big portion for very cheap. Also is a great healthy option! Would definitely recommend.
Surprised that it does not have a higher rating, but big fan of the restaurant as it is a family favorite and prices are not bad at all alongside the food options!
Amazing food Amazing service Amazing price We ordered spicy tuna and salmon roll during lunch specials and it was only 12$ It was super yummy!!!! Sake is 6$. Good size bottle for good price In general the place is outstanding! Totally will be coming back!
Great food and reasonable prices. I’m vegetarian so getting a variety of sushi options was fantastic
We eat at this restaurant almost 2-3 times per month. We were never disappointed by anything we tried! The sushi is one of the best in brooklyn! The tofu eggplant and the tempura are so delicious!
This is my boyfriend and I's favorite restaurant. The waitstaff there knows this, and every time we come in they treat us with such great hospitality and the service is always perfect: not too invasive, but enough to know they want you to be there. We will forever come to this restaurant. Also! The take out is just as good as getting it in the restaurant. They prepare everything so well and we're never left with messy take out boxes.
Favorite restaurant of all time! I have spent almost every birthday at Yamato, enjoying a delicious Singapore noodle bento-box and at least 8 pieces of gyoza at every meal. My entire childhood was spent at this incredible restaurant, from graduation lunches to holidays to dim sum dinners, and I will never forget the first time I walked through those glass doors (I have so many cartoons that I drew while waiting for food on the chopstick holders they give you)! Impeccable service, and Peter is such an incredible person. If you are ever in the area, I most certainly recommend that you visit! I even have friends who have told me that they had some of the best food they have ever had here. Patio is gorgeous too, and the restaurant’s overall aesthetic is sleek and modern (especially with the beautiful mirrors and woven leather booths). If you can, I also definitely recommend sitting in the large booth near the front window (after the pandemic ends of course).
So good, cozy vibe, attentive service, amazing sushi and even vegetarian sushi options. Love this place so much. Their backyard garden is really romantic, it makes you feel like you've stepped out of Brooklyn.
We go here regularly and we think it is the best Japanese at a reasonable price in Park Slope. (There is one place better but it is in a much higher price category.) Yamato gas maintained the quality over the years. The garden is pleasant in good weather.
From the service to the ambiance and the prices, this is one of Brooklyn's hidden treasures laying in plain sight. Some of the best duck I've ever had came from Yamato; you totally can't go wrong with the lunch specials.
One of the best miso soups we have had. The sushi is delicious and at great prices. It's an ideal neighborhood spot. Highly recommend the spicy combo dinner.
I have only had lunch here, but the lunch boxes are delicious. The service is friendly and prompt. I would love to try dinner here and will update my review when I do.
I love it here. Definitely my favorite sushi spot. The sushi is always fresh. The costumer service is amazing and just an overall great experience!!!
We dined in here randomly the other week just to try it as we always walk by but have never been. It was excellent!! Service was on point and they were incredibly accommodating of my 3 year old daughter who, despite being a picky eater as of late, ate all of her dinner! Check it out in person or order online (it was bumping w delivery drivers and it’s clear to see why!)
Just ordered a delivery of lunch for 2 on a rainy day. The salmon tarragon bento box was absolutely delicious with plentiful sides. The lettuce wrapped chopped chicken was immensely tasty and satisfying. Also just love their shrimp dumpling soup. The restaurant itself is modern, clean and aesthetically pleasing. Let’s keep them in business during these uncertain times.
Came to your motto at the invitation of a friend great place for a Friday lunch. They had a wonderful lunch special and I was able to eat and drink and be Jolly inside the restaurant. Standard sushi options great miso soup and also had a selection of wines, which I was very happy about, the space was a bit cold, but nothing putting on my jacket could not have fixed and I really enjoyed spending time with friends and just talking.
A Park Slope classic and one of the few places in NYC that hasn’t jacked up their prices in the last few years. We asked for a desert they used to make and wasn’t in the menu anymore (banana tempura) and they made it for us.
We really like this restaurant. It was so cute and had like a family Japanese atmosphere. We got the fiesta roll., nikka roll, crispy duck lunchbox special, and some sashimi and sushi. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The service was really nice and attentive. My favorite part of the ambiance was the beautiful carafe for sake. For Park Slope, I was blown away with their prices/value. Soft drink was only $2 and you could get a REALLY good sized meal and a beverage for under $20!
Food is okie but not the top quality. We ordered spicy tuna combo and spider roll which are really so so. Spider roll is barely the side of a regular sized roll. I enjoy the eel hand roll thou. Truly they can work on getting better quality fish and food. Service is nice. They are friendly and quick. Nothing to improve there except a little more attentive. Ambiance can add a little updating. The table is not comfortable as well as the chairs. Again quick dinner spot and right price.
Yamato means big on English, besides big. it keeps up with the name, in another note, the octopus has this lime essence 👌. Enjoy
Decided to order in as a weekend treat and try a new restaurant in my neighborhood! This was some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Everything was fresh. Good quality fish. And my order was delivered in less than 30 minutes! Yamato will officially be my new go-to local sushi spot. P.s. How cute is the soy sauce dish that they sent?!
Serving sizes and pricing was very generous! Staff were friendly, attentive, and quick. Their lunchbox special is something I hope they keep around!
My friend invited me to dine at Yamato. Both the food and service were excellent. The owner and waitress were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely a hidden gem and the best in the neighborhood.
Best Yaki Udon I had in NYC and I ate Yaki Udon at over 100 restaurants. The service is impeccable and very friendly. This is also one of the most affordable places for lunch special I have been to.
Fish was super fresh and really high quality, plated differently and equally pretty every time I go Staff were very nice and polite, I'm not a fan of these fancy sit down restaurants but even going in after school or work looking like an absolute mess didn't feel like I was being judged or anything. Don't love the seating but it's mostly awkwardness bc it's a very open space & I go alone. Very few people around when I've gone Spent $40 including >20% tip for the dinner size sushi and sashimi platter with miso soup every time I've been. As a pretty big guy its a good size, I haven't had more than a couple small snacks food-wise before I go for lunch there & I'm completely full after eating there. I know they have a lunch version that's less than half the price but it has smaller portions so I haven't gotten it Absolutely luv this place food is so good and not outrageously expensive. Spoiling me sushi-wise & now I eat here so often most other places are just disappointing.
This is the first time I’ve eaten Japanese and I loved it! I’m sure my meal wasn’t as adventurous or authentically Japanese as it could have been but I’m very restrictive in my choices. I don’t like trying new foods so I tend to go safe with meats, textures and flavors that are familiar to me. With that being said I had the curry chicken which was amazing! It’s made with coconut milk, juicy slices of mango, potatoes, string beans, bell peppers onions. It’s really the best thing I’ve ever had. It IS a bit spicy, so I added a bit of extra coconut milk to tone it down for my husband and son. I do t know what dress they use on their sale but I love it. The spring roll is a little bready for my taste but again the dipping sauce is perfect. The brown rice that comes with the meal is complimentary. The only thing I didn’t like was the miso soup. I couldn’t get past the smell, and it really didn’t taste good. So in the future I will opt out of the soup.
I ordered takeout and the service was great. They even offered me water as I waited for my food. When I finally got to indulge in the food, it was SO good. Loved it! I'll be back again! P.S. The picture doesn't do it enough justice but it was amazing! 👌🏽
The food was great, prices are decent and the service was very good. The waiter was very friendly and funny. We had a great time and there was not one thing we didn't like.
Such a lovely place for sushi, sashimi, noodles, and rice dishes. Eat in, or take out, it’s equally good. I especially love the pineapple rice with chicken. So delicious.
Sit in the backyard! The service was great, super nice waiter. The food was so good. Get the blue fin sushi! It was about $7 market price the day i went, but had to try to and it did not dissapoint.
We had a variety of things from Sushi to Curry chicken and everything was amazing! And beautifully plated.

Amazing selections and great atmosphere. The service lacked nothing and was always served with a smile.
Great sushi at an appropriate price point. I loved the tuna pieces, nice fatty flavour that melts in your mouth. Me and my group also had some sake, that the waiter recommended, to go with the sushi. It was a delicious pairing. The waiter also made sure we always had what we needed, it was great service.
Service is lovely and prices are very reasonable. Fresh, clean, tasty food. It’s a great place also for a calm dinner you can bring a book and stay a while and nobody bothers. One of the few places that still care about people and good service and not just rushing people through as quickly as possible for as little as possible!

A good sushi restaurant with a standard Japanese menu at great prices and nice portions. The food itself is good, but not great, but this is offset by the portion sizes, terrific price, and cozy atmosphere—the green tea, though, is amazing. The staff are very kind and quick to serve.
Minimal wait with reservations on a Saturday night. The food was good - a little pricey, but worth it. The service was fairly slow. We did have a party of 8, though. Any time I wanted a drink I had to flag someone down because we were rarely checked on. I would still go back in a smaller group though and see if the service was a little better.
My wife and I walked over for a date night on a Tuesday and the place was pleasantly packed. This is a shotgun layout of a restaurant with all the tables along the left wall, but the management has made it feel more open with great use of mirrors above the bench side of the table against the wall. The rolls were excellent as well as the singapore noodles. The wait staff was very attentive without feeling intrusive. If you're already in Brooklyn or looking to try something new, this is definitely worth it.
Yamato is a quiet Japanese fusion restaurant in the heart of a hustling and bustling avenue. We dined here for a friend's birthday and snagged the booth in the front window that seats 3-4 but could seat more if needed. The pork gyoza and chicken teriyaki entrees were amazing (and huge). They have a decent wine list and prices are fair across the board.
Great lunch specials! Excellent price for the amount of food and quality. Pretty empty on a weekday and easily assumed to be closed from the looks. Owner said they’ve been around for 20+ years, must be doing something right to stick around for so long and keep the prices low.

Welcoming servers. Food was good. Wabted the Crispy chicken to be more crispy though. I've been going there since I was a kid. Place is always clean, good food, good people, great service. Will be going back again soon.

The sushi is good enough and fresh but when I ordered shrimp tempura I was overwhelmed and turned off by the vast breading and how unflavorful it was. The place has now been around for years, but it could be cleaner by the bathrooms and kitchen in back. I'll keep it as simple as possible next time.
I have eaten at Yamato many times. It is about as good as things get in Park Slope, which is not saying much. (How so wealthy a neighborhood can have such consistently poor restaurants still baffles me.) Yamato's presentation masks otherwise average quality and significantly above average prices, something they can get away with given the generally poor quality of dining in Park Slope. Some of the rolls are excellent and consistently so. But the quality of the fish is definitely uneven, especially standards like yellowtail and tuna. In Manhattan, Yamato would definitely be considered below par for quality and pricing (but, again, good on presentation).
This Japanese restaurant in Park Slope follows the modern interior formula of minimalist décor. The garden in the back is quite nice for our dinner. The weather was perfect for outdoor eating. Our server was friendly and accommodating. The table ordered some edamame to share and start. We had a fish, rolls and Chirashi for our entrees. The trout on a bed of rice pilaf was prepared well as was the rolls. The Chirashi with the fresh fish on a bed of rice was equally as good. The portions were equally as large as only in a Chinese restaurant would serve. As flavor goes, Yamato does a good job. Friendly service in a pseudo Japanese modern interior where portions are certainly not Japanese and where you actually leave satisfied and full.
Decent Japanese food! It felt the servers were hovering quite a bit and watching me, which may have been caused by them being fairly empty on a Friday night without enough to do. Nothing really stood out besides that the location is convenient.

Wow where should I begin... Took my Lady out for dinner here earlier tonight... We ordered Snow Peas and Spring Rolls to start...At the very end of the of eating the Snow my girl noticed a Bug... It was an actual Vegetable Worm "Green"... Even though they didn't charge us for it...The whole experience left an uneasy taste. I can't recommend this place nor will I ever go back... If you do please make sure you look at what you put in your mouth.. It may not be anything on the Menu.😔😷😷😡😡😡
Me and my friends went to Yamato or lunch, we did not ask for to go or to stay but they gave us to go and kicked us out. We were talking and saying if we could just go but they said to leave. Also their fried rice was disgusting and 2/3 of the entire fried rice was vegetables!
I just (10/17) called in my order because it was too cold to do the 3 minute walk. I have eaten at Yamato restaurant for both lunch and dinner I am allergic to ginger and soy. In lieu of the soup (full of soy) and salad (ginger dressing) I am always granted a $1 spicy mayo. Today, I called and a very anxious, Edward, denied my request and when I asked to speak with the manager he told me that there was none. When I explained I had been granted the request many times because it is a reasonable trade-off when considering the cost, he then spiraled into a monologue about me "wanting to get him fired" I explained that I "did not want him to be fired, that I wanted to get clarification" He claimed that he knew who I was (when really he was referencing another woman in my office) and that I was trying to "trick him" because I'd purchased it before. So, I decided to make that frigid 3 minute walk to ensure that the owners/managers were indeed not there and order my meal in person. Edward then became aggressive and yelled "i just work here and follow rules" Understandable Edward, but on every other occasion with reasonable humans engaged the exception has been made and never it acceptable to raise your voice on the phone and in person to a once loyal customer.
Will never order from this place again. Ordered delivery and the shake down for a certain cash tip was insane. Did not give me cash back that I requested- just what HE thought he deserved. Sorry tip is NOT required- and if someone ASKS for a certain amount back YOU GIVE IT
