My favorites are Southern Fried Chicken breakfast, Chicken Chicken Fried Steak, and now the Deluxe Loco Moco. They have traditional American breakfast plates and they also have Hawaiian plates which was really good. There aren't a lot of Hawaiian restaurants in Ventura county but I would say this place makes the best loco Moco!
The chicken fried steak breakfast meal was so good. Service was great even as we were the last people in the restaurant prior to closing. Appreciate they served us close to closing. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
Had to circle the parking lot a couple times to find it, hence "Hidden" Cafe, but the trek was wellll worth it. I had the Loco Moco Deluxe, and it was super solid. Came with Portuguese sausage, spam, beef patty, and eggs, over a bed of rice, with a very nice gravy with green peppers in it. I've only had a loco mocos in Ventura County, and this place beats out the Q and Q, and L and L here. I really enjoyed having the sausage and spam on the plate, as it completed the meal and made the whole thing way more satisfying than just having beef patties. They give you a small side thimble sized cup of their house soy sauce, which has a spicy kick and adds a "homey" umami when paired with the gravy. Gravy itself was satisfyingly savory, and I feel it took on the green pepper's flavor as part of it's identity; didn't taste commercial or like it was from a mix. Rice was a taddd dry, but the gravy does a good job at masking that. Overall, I'd return again, and again, to have this plate. Left me happy and ready to take on the day. If you're looking for a different take on the traditional, run of the mill breakfast, this island themed menu is for you!
Local. 1st timer. Hidden gem! LOVE the ambiance, the staff (extremely funny and knowledgeable.) You may have to wait in a line but it is worth it. And they have a variety of mimosas and other tasty beverages. Sit inside or outside - lots of options. Did I mention the Hawaiian inspired plates —- so good and brings a little bit of Hawaii to the mainland. Yummy 🤤
I tried "Hidden Cafe" in East L.A.; it’s small, quiet, and sim‑ ple—just good coffee and homemade muffins. I sat out back in a shaded patio and watched locals play chess. The owner remembered my latte order when I came back the next day. Excellent espresso, feels cozy and personal. Hard to find, but worth the hunt.
Went for mother’s day breakfast. Wait wasnt too bad. Service is excellent I got the pork chops with eggs and hash browns and a small stack or pancakes. Food was amazing Will come back try another dish I would recommend this place
Excellent food, service and pricing! Highly recommend.
Found this place on Google search for nearby breakfast spots on road trip. Quick detour off the 101, easy to find and park. Fast service and delicious food! And very clean bathrooms. Highly recommend
My Fianceé and I really enjoy this place. Just as the name implies, it's a hidden cafe in the back area of Camarillo. The food here is a mix of American/Filipino cuisine. The food is excellent and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. We love coming for their Loco Moco breakfast plate. It's rice (fried or steamed) topped with a charbroiled beef patty, special gravy sauce and a cooked egg to your liking. If you decide to get the deluxe version of the dish, it comes with Sausage and Spam. This place is worth a try. You won't be disappointed. P.S. if it's available, please get their cinnamon rolls.....they are simply fantastic! They do run out quick so get them if they have them. This place gets two thumbs up!
What a gem! Trying a new breakfast place this morning, we uncovered the Hidden Cafe. The absolute friendliest service and delicious food. While I opted to have my usual veggie and eggs, I loved that there were more interesting options as well. The pancakes in particular were tasty and perfectly cooked. Special note: my eggs were not loaded in salt and I could happily taste all the yummy, fresh veggies that were included. All in all, an excellent experience!
Hidden Cafe has a great selection of breakfast items with many options for sides! Want mini pancakes and breakfast fried rice instead of toast and potatoes? Oh yeah! The fried rice has breakfast meats in it like sausage and their Finadene sauce pairs awesome with it. Love the Chili Verde Omelette and they also have great Loco Moco!
I had the best corned beef hash, I’ve had in a long while! Small, comfy, friendly & definitely lives up to its name!
It was my sons birthday, and he was craving fried chicken for breakfast. I googled best fried chicken, and this place popped up. It didn't disappoint. They use fresh, not frozen chicken. It was really juicy. My son was very pleased with it. I ordered the pork chops and was happy with mine as well. My hubby ordered the chicken and waffles, and he couldn't finish it. Proportions are huge. I think we found our new breakfast spot. We have to come back for lunch or dinner. They also have an islander flare to the menu serving moco loco, fried rice, and Hawaiian macaroni. A must try if you are in the area. Let's make this place a not so hidden cafe 🤩
Gluten free pancakes were delicious along with everything else that we ordered! The staff and owner are pleasant and very attentive. Our food arrived, hot and quickly after ordering. We sat outside in an area beautifully decorated with plants, heaters and shade. We so happen to hit the perfect timing during the week when there wasn’t as many people. We hear that over the weekend it can get quite busy. However, the food and the atmosphere is worth the wait!
This was my first visit and I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised! I can understand the name, "Hidden Cafe". Our car GPS was even off by one street; I think this was the fault of poor phone reception on my part. This little gem of a restaurant was well worth the visit. The food was fantastic, with many choices to try on future visits. I'm my opinion the food was priced just right, no prices seemed out of line. The servers were very attentive and the refills on drinks and extra napkins were quick to arrive at our table. There is inside seating and patio seating. Space heaters too for chilly days. It's easy off and on the 101 freeway at the Camarillo Springs exit. I ordered chili Verde omelet with flour tortillas and O'brian (sp?) potatoes. Fresh salsa on request. So tasty 😋
Excellent gluten-free waffles, fresh berry toppings, and coffee.
Talk about truth in advertising! Hidden Cafe lives up to its name in the most delightful way. Tucked away in the shopping centre, it's so well concealed you might think they're playing an elaborate game of hide-and-seek with their customers. Pro tip: bring a treasure map or a keen sense of smell to locate this gem! Once you've conquered the challenge of finding it (no small feat, I assure you), you're in for a treat. The cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating, catering to all preferences. Bonus points for being dog-friendly in their outdoor area - because who doesn't want to enjoy a fantastic breakfast with their furry friend? Speaking of breakfast, it's absolutely top-notch. The food here isn't just good; it's the kind of meal that makes you question all your previous breakfast experiences. And the best part? You barely have time to anticipate it. The service is so quick, you might suspect they have time-bending abilities or a secret army of ninja chefs. In all seriousness, Hidden Cafe is a standout spot. From its playful location to its excellent food and lightning-fast service, it's a place that turns first-time visitors into regulars. Just remember to leave a trail of breadcrumbs so you can find your way back!
Delicious and great service. We had the deluxe loco moco, chilequiles, spam with eggs and rice, pancakes, and cinnamon roll. All were delicious and would order again. Our server was sweet and attentive. A great place to get a classic breakfast or a tasty twist.
I can't believe i just started coming here....great food, very friendly service and good atmosphere. I think this is my new favorite breakfast place....I think I will be coming here quite a bit now! :)
My Wifey went to lunch here a while back, and then We Came all the way from Chatsworth to Enjoy this Awesome Spot !! We had the Yummy Fried Chicken, and I'm a Dark Meat Guy Myself, with my Coffee, Women, Poultry, etc 😄 !! But the Hidden Cafe, made the Most Perfectly, Fried Chicken Breast,(Many Places Can't Do That !!), It was Huge, juicy, Seasoned Well, and yet, not Salty !! Our Waffles, Pancakes, Fried Rice, Scrambled Eggs, and Huge Cinnamon Roll, Were Excellent as Well !! Let Us Not Forget, that Everyone There was Sooooo Sweet and Pleasant !! Hey "Hidden Cafe", Don't Ever Change !!
Were you a fan of the old Uncle Herbs in South Oxnard? Well the owner was the last chef there before they closed. Enough said. Oh, you don't know about Uncle Herbs? It was THE LANDMARK Breakfast place in Oxnard. So much that when President George W. Bush campaigned in 2000, he asked where he can eat in Oxnard, and then Mayor Lopez directed him there. Anyway, Hidden Cafe is better. Jesse, owner, has brought a bit of his native Guamanian flavor with items such as spam and fried rice, mixed in with local favorites such as chilaquiles, and housemade cinnamon rolls. Thursdays they feature Filipino staples like adobo and pancit. I don't get there enough. It's worth the drive if you're anywhere near THE 101.
We love going to Hidden Cafe! It’s the best little family owned spot in Camarillo. The owner Jo and her husband are always so sweet and give amazing service! I’ve never had a bad meal here and the service is so quick! I definitely recommend everyone tries this little local spot!

Food was great. The best cinnamon rolls - served warm! The waitress was very friendly and I believe she was one of the owners? Offered dog treats and a water bowl for my dogs and very kind accommodations for my toddler (smaller utensils, children’s placemat, extra napkins, etc). Very friendly family restaurant with tasty dishes.
I'm kinda mad at myself for not trying this place sooner after being here for so many years. It's SO good! The Loco Moco is a MUST TRY. And the waffles are incredible and enough for two people to share. I can't wait to come back :)
I just left the hidden cafe for the first time abs I have to say I have very impressed with the food, service, and atmosphere. The location is perfect. It is hidden away in a corner of a small shopping center. It is very clean and cozy. The food was delicious and affordable. The menu had plenty of options and was diverse. The service was great. Emma is a fantastic server. They also do military discount. This place has become one of my favorite breakfast spots in Ventura county.

What a treat. Reasonably priced breakfast fare served with friendliness and care. We had a number of traditional breakfast items and they were all fresh, flavorful and well proportioned. In fact, the chicken and waffles looked delicious and could have easily feed two people. Our server was a pro. She made for an enjoyable meal. The prices were OK. No bargains, but again the servings were generous. I must say the outdoor patio area was just ok. A touch cramped if I'm honest. But that would not stop us from hurrying back for breakfast again. We will return.
Good food, strong coffee, nice patio, distracted service. I don't have a great picture of the Chile Verde & eggs cause I was so hungry by the time we got it I gobbled it up too fast. It was really good though. The Cornbeef Hash was crispy, salty & yummy. The waitress was a bit off her game that day - but overall a very good spot!

Saw a review and picture of another person's review of the Portuguese sausage plate with subbed fried rice- Did not disappoint! And the little pancakes on the side! Great value. Awesome diner and would recommend. Just moved near here and will be visiting my new local diner often.

This place has suffered in the last few years. Two years ago, we shared an amazing gluten-free Belgian waffle. And other diners were enjoying a diverse menu. Now, It is cluttered and dirty.

I have to say I was really excited to try this restaurant. The staff were very nice, though they didn't check on us until we were almost done eating. They had outdoor seating and accommodated our dogs, who got water and lots of pets. That's why they got 2 stars. The whole place seemed really thrown together with old, hodge-podge furniture and decor. The biggest problem was the food though. Everyone online said the benedicts were so good, so my husband and I both got some. I got the salmon benedict with hash browns and was pretty disappointed. The English muffin was burnt, like black burnt so that's all I could taste. I decided to take the toppings off and just eat those instead. But the salmon was so bland and dry, I couldn't even stomach it with salt and pepper. I had the same experience with my hash browns, which had no seasoning and were also burnt on top. I couldn't finish the meal. But they did take 15% off the bill, which I appreciate considering how expensive everything is. My husband tried the seared ahi benedict with the potatoes O'Brien. He will eat just about anything but said his were so bland he didn't like them and he added a bunch of salt so he could finish them.
We came here after seeing several of my friends here on yelp really liked it, but I have to agree with Randy B on this place. Meh, not my favorite. For me there were a lot of holes in the food, flow and service. After the hollindaise taste test fail, I'm not really sure what it was but it wasn't hollindaise more like oily gravy. So I ordered the ole stand by, bacon and eggs with sour dough toast the toast was good. The eggs were runny. The bacon although thick and tasty, would have been better a couple of hours ago. The potatoes were just above room temp. Elizabeth got the best bang for the buck as the ham and eggs had a huge slab of ham and it was juicy to boot, but she had the same runny eggs. The others in my group liked their food for the most part, however, I look at the whole event of the meal and non yelper's don't seem to be as enlighten. I feel like if you don't have a standard you will like anything someone else cooks. I first became aware of this when we were diners on Gordon ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares when they brought the food out and the cameras were on us and I at the scampi which was over cooked but played to the camera and not my palette. ....Light goes on..... We got seated on the patio with a nice breeze. The server was not in sync with his tables at all. water was not filled and toast and pancakes were missing and he had to be reminded to get them. Their are better places closer to home.
Update: So, apparently this spot is heavily a hit and miss because my return visit was disastrous. Service was monumentally slower with rampant miscommunication, and the food took an absolute dive from top notch to absurd mediocrity; Dry, Over Cooked, Poorly Executed, what happened? Half of our visit was waiting and flagging down servers, making basic requests en-repeat, and the crown jewel of the visit, syrup cups. We received our breakfast with syrup provided as per current trend in side allowances of the topping (see picture update), the cups were all 1/3 filled. - We ended up requesting 4 additional cups of syrup just to get up to a basic level of syrup for our cooling pancakes. Minus 2 stars across the board. Disappointing. Original Review: "Very Good. Chorizo burger was excellent. Flavors and ingredients 100% on point. You don't come across this level of passion in food too often anymore. - Service is highly attentive, almost a little too much, but it is appreciated. Atmosphere seems a bit generic indoors but it's a neutral time of the year~ 5/5, would recommend!"

I ordered the pastrami sandwich to go.It was more like a grilled cheese sandwich with just as much hard crunchy pickles on than pastrami. The owner told me to go somewhere else if your not happy about 5 ounces of pastrami for 18$. Claimed small portion because it's high grade. The fat marbling in the pastrami was like elastic bands, crunchy like gristle. The side cup of macaroni salad was half empty. His idea of macaroni salad consisted of macaroni, grated carrots, and mayonnaise, nothing more. The most pathetic macaroni salad EVER."Go somewhere else"
Ordered short ribs, was so excited to try it since it was our first time. To our surprised, food was really salty and sour to the point where i had goosebumps eating it. Service was good so we still left tip for him. And also the cinnamon rolls was super sweet, ordered that thinking it would make the saltiness and sourness go away but made me even nauseous because it was way too sweet. It could have been better if there was no filling inside. And for the price that we paid, I expected it to be a good food.
This used to be my favorite breakfast spot—until today. I had a really disappointing experience with a server when I arrived. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, I wasn't allowed to sit at a table until my guest showed up. The situation escalated unnecessarily, and the server even told me, "I don't have to serve you." That was the final straw—I left and went to Country Harvest instead, where I was welcomed with a smile and treated with genuine hospitality. Check out my next review for the great experience I had there!
Management are rude and arrogant to say the least. I arrived with my daughter who has disabilities and my dog. I requested an outdoor table because of the dog. There were 3 tables for seating 2 outside but was still told to wait on the list. The party ahead of me was for a large group. So my daughter and I we just needed a tiny table for 2 which were standing empty in the patio. Still had to wait over 15 minutes. Thry then seat us at a table for four, which had been standing empty since arrived. So what was with the wait. Because the table for foir was on a main passage way where street passers walk by and can get the dog excited, I asked if we could move to the table for 2 that was sitting empty and would be more discreet - to keep the dog calm. They agreed with attitude. Why all the fuss? What really made me post this, is when my daughter moved her chair to be closer to me, and I was busy instructing her to get the chair back to its original position so she wouldn't block the small path for staff to get passed, the manager storms out and yells at her to not sit there not allowing me to finish getting my daughter settled. My daughter looks like shes 12, due to her CP, but is in fact 22, and requested I posted this review. Businesses need to understand, ALL clients are important. To request my daughter to move can be done politely not trashy. Foos is mediocre at best. Cleanliness is well non existent. And atmosphere lets say they ruined it. Last week I had taken a friend here for breakfast. Same dog. Similar table. Wrong order for me but I didn't want to make a fuss and told tge server it was fine not to send back the meal. Took forever. Same bad service. Its sad. Theres tons of good diners in Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and surrounds. 2 bad experiences in a row 2 weeks in a row. So overall poor.
Severely Disappointed!!! Noticed that most of the recent posts are negative. Too bad because the younger servers were very nice and efficient. The food was ok. Nothing to rush back to. But the older woman there is plain nasty. You do have to wait to be seated when all your people are there. Except on weekends there are always a lot of tables, from what I observed. So why do this? Also go there to meet with people to catch up. Try and always get a table out of the way. And try and leave a decent tip. But I am over these belittling nasty lady comments. Like she does not understand we can hear her while she is spouting off to the kind waitress. Whom we both felt was embarrassed. Then she came to our table to ask us to move it outside. Nobody was there and they were not closing. Then she lied to us. It was a horrible experience which will never happen again. Have lived here almost 40 years and all those that know me. Know I hate controversary!!! And most the time the people I am with are going through severe situations. The last thing they need is her anger. Hope she finds some peace somewhere. Feel very sorry for her. It has happened several times!!!!
