My sister and I took our father out for Father's Day brunch. The daily specials were enticing, while my father was able to tuck into a huge bowl of mussels - a rare treat for him. If you're looking for the flavors of Mediterranean France, you'll be pleased to find a wealth of charcuterie, cheeses, seafood, and even foie gras. It's well worth the price for a special occasion, celebration, or nice date.

B

My new favorite continental cuisine in the Triangle. This converted house does haut cuisine right. Foie gras is one of my guilty pleasures and here I was able to order it not only as an appetizer (with an excellent Sauternes pairing) but as a dessert (foie gras ice cream) as well! Bravo, Provence!

Sunday Brunch is divine. The bloody mary will fix what ails you and the brunch menu is delicious. Try the beignets or the croissant Croque-monsieur. Also a great place for a fantastic lunch on the patio or a very impressive location for a hot date. Carrboro is the Paris of the Piedmont according to some - then Provence is the key to delicious Continental fare.

Imagine the quiet energy of a street side French bistro merged with the charm of a lit garden cafe and you'd have Provence. Down to Earth wait staff connect you to appetizers, salads and entrees that brim with refreshingly distinct flavors emblematic of thoughtful attention to detail. Layered flavors and refined execution explain a commitment to craft that extracts something remarkable from simple ingredients and a deft hand in the kitchen. Menu changes seasonally. Outdoor seating during Covid makes safety a default to allow for the full enjoyment of your meal.

Absolutely scrumptious brunch at Provence today. We had beignets and croque monsieurs, soup (I got the soup of the day, cream of chicken and mushroom, and my husband got French onion), and a nice champagne cocktail with strawberries. Everything was really delicious. Service from Amy was so friendly and attentive. We sat on the patio with our little dog - they brought him water and were so sweet to him. We will be back very soon I'm sure!

Provence is that special dining spot for special occasions. Their specialty is fish and seafood but their steaks and other meats are also quite tantalizing. Exceptional service. For a more intimate experience sit across from the bar since we found the main dining area a tad noisy. Leave room for dessert.

This is such a classy little place. The staff are all very friendly and courteous. I went for Valentine's Day and they were very efficient and seated everyone within a matter of minutes (even one couple who didn't have a reservation). The food we had was phenomenal. They also have a nice outdoor patio that I think would be nice to sit in on clear, cool nights!

Fine French fair. I have never had anything bad here. They make some great fish dishes. They are seasonal and the menu changes. I loved the skate fish and they do a salt backed fish with holindase sauce that is to die for. Great duck and lamb too. Save room for dessert.

Had dinner here on Valentine's Day with my SO. Each entree came with an appetizer, so we ordered seared scallops and lobster bisque to start. The scallops were cooked nicely, but wasn't really mind-blowing. Lobster bisque was amazing, especially with the crostinis that were served with the bisque (just wish it came with more than 2 crostinis). We got filet mignon and lamb shank for entrees. The steak was cooked well and was well seasoned. The lamb had an odd citrus taste and was a bit bland. Overall, the food was well executed, but the dishes weren't very memorable.

I loved the buckwheat gluten free crêpe. The strawberry was awesome. The options were slim and not what I wanted. Definitely close to authentic french. May visit again.

Enjoyed our experience at Provence. This is a thoroughly French restaurant, down to a menu written in French, and celebrates Southern French cuisine. It would have been nice to see some most classic regional dishes on the menu at a restaurant called Provence, for example pistou, fougasse, and bouillabaisse, but what was represented was both delicious and authentic. Started with an appetizer of scallops which were perfectly seared with adequate butter and finished with caviar. For entree the lobster risotto was quite good, and unusually, generously finished with not one but two lobster tails. I did note dried mushrooms in the risotto which I do not especially object to but FYI. One quirk of the service was that plates were served oven hot, which actually burned the sauce on one of the dishes. The explanation given was that the kitchen does not have a warming light for expo and therefore plates are heated in the oven to keep the food served at an appropriate temperature. Appreciated the selection of cocktails, few of which were immediately familiar to me, and enjoyed the "Entre Deux Mers". The wine selection was ample and not exclusively French centered, although I did choose a vouvray to accompany seafood. For dessert we chose a lavender creme brulee which tasted good, but which was not set properly. It was perhaps undercooked or water got in the creme. Overall quite good and would return for another visit.

Great service, excellent food, but not the same as it use to be under previous management. Having grown up in this area I expected nothing to have changed menu wise. I found that a classic desert that many loved was gone; chocolate mousse. The escargot was good but a bit bland due to the sauce. I personally had the risotto and it was good, very flavourful and rich. The crème brûlée was good but the filling was raspberry and quite sweet on top of being crème brûlée. Overall very good food, definitely recommendation worthy. The only issue I have is with the price. Risotto that wouldn’t fill up a 3 year old is not worth $19. The prices were jacked up when new management came and took over provence. I am sorry to say to all of those who are looking for the same Provence from 5+ years ago, it’s gone and I wouldn’t come here if I were you. Otherwise, it really is good food.

Cute little restaurant inside a converted house. I had the Moules Frites (mussels and fries), which were decent, but not extraordinary. My friend had a sausage, egg and potato crepe, which he enjoyed. Overall food is good and solid.

Starting out, I'd like to say the food and waitress (I wish I remembered her name) we had were amazing. However, the initial reception of the host wasn't very welcoming. I'll admit, we were a tad late to our 6:15 reservation time by about 15 min. but after we entered the door, it was very quiet with only a few tables in use. We stood there, for almost 2 minutes with servers walking by (which is a rather long period of time to be ignored in a very small, almost empty, building.) before we were even acknowledged., Once the bald gentleman with glasses noticed us and came over, he promptly asked if we had a reservation, in an unwelcoming tone, looked at the computer, and reluctantly seated us. As we sat down he told us we had to be finished by a certain time because the table was reserved (wait, I thought we had a reservation?).... He then whispered something in our waitress' ear and left. Not until after the meal did I find out what he had said... which was: "Don't worry, I told them they had to be gone by 7:15." I was very displeased with his attitude and the treatment of this host, he asked all the other tables how their meal was, but all we received was a couple of suspicious looks from over the bar. After we were rid of him, the night was very enjoyable, only when we were leaving was he polite and receptive toward us (Tip maybe? I hope it didn't go to him...) The calming atmosphere was on the quieter side, it was a very romantic setting though they definitely cater to an older crowd (we were the youngest there by about twenty years... maybe that's why they were a little wary of us?), the wine and dinner was amazing. We opted out of desert but I would definitely go back to the Restaurant for another meal. Granted I may have a few choice words for the hairless gentleman that was rather rude and almost caused us to leave before even ordering. This is why they received only a "good" service score.

Went here for a Christmas party and had the filet. It was cooked decently, but it didn't blow me away. I had higher expectations, given its specialized nature. The staff was friendly and they had a pretty good beer and wine selection.

Brunch was marred by perfectly awful beignets: raw, doughy, dense interiors with greasy overcooked crusts. To the staff's credit they were apologetic, removed them, and didn't charge us. (BTW, if you like beignets try La Farm.) The omelette and crepe were good - reminiscent of typical bistros in Paris.

I wish I could rave about this restaurant but I'd have to say my experience was sub par. From the dining room, which appeared to be full of regulars, I expected something wonderful. For the most part, the food I was served had potential. The lobster& tomato bisque was excellent. The salmon with hollandaise was the problem. My first few bites were heavenly. The hollandaise was smooth, rich and flavorful. Unfortunately, as I got to the inner 2/3 of the salmon, it was quite raw. The staff was apologetic and immediately took it to the kitchen where I was prepared a new plate. They even gave me a dinner salad with goat cheese to enjoy while I waited. Alas, the second attempt was only slightly more cooked but still way underdone. I can't imagine this is the way this dish is to be prepared - at least a warning should come with it. In addition, the side of sauteed spinach was way too salty. My waiter asked how the fish was this time and could see it was still not cooked properly. At that point, I was too tired to ask for an adjustment to my bill or complain further. I regret having paid so much for this dinner.

Most of the food and drinks were great for brunch. Dont get the beneighs, all the dough on the inside was raw and thick. Outsides were burnt and greasy. Told the waitress and she replaced them but were the same on the next batch. Otherwise service and other food was good.

A big celebration for our family and the meal was a real disappointment. The food was overpriced and the entrees really mediocre (tournedos, lobster risotto and lamb tagine). We sat outside and for half of the meal had no light on the table. The final blow was when they started clearing the chairs and closing up around us. At 9.45 on a Friday evening. It's frustrating as this could be so good.

Kurt Štolka

The ambiance is very quaint. Two different fish dishes were ordered (sole and salmon with horseradish crust/hazelnut sauce). We were shocked to see our entrees come out 5-10 minutes after we ordered. The salmon was a little dry, horseradish was barely noticeable as was any hint of hazelnut flavor. The sole was moist and well seasoned. I give a smiley face for food only because it was OK.

We went to Provence to celebrate a birthday. The front of house staff were all friendly. We weren't sure if the chef was out of town or if management had changed, but the execution of some of the dishes left much to be desired from a French restaurant. The escargot came out without their shells and were of decent size. The downfall of our meal was the entrees. We ordered the special- salt encrusted fish and chef's selection of fish. The anticipation grew when they brought out stands to hold the food. Unfortunately, the minute we saw the fish, our expectations dropped. To my knowledge, a salt crusted fish is supposed to be encased in salt to allow the fish to steam and be very tender. The fish that came out of the kitchen was a whole fish cooked on a baking pan with a heavy dusting of salt. The waiter struggled a bit with removing the salt and plating, but he was at least gracious to block the salt from hitting the table with the spoon. Once the fish was pulled and plated, I was horrified to see that the "hollandaise" came out of the bowl was solidified and came out in chunks that melted once it hit the hot plate. It was not the nice creamy emulsion that I was expecting of egg yolks and butter. At least the toasted garlic oil was a good flavor addition. When I looked down at the plate, it looked like much of my $31 one-pound fish was left still mostly in the pan and there was less than a filet worth of fish on the plate. To his credit, the waiter looked like he tried his best and was a bit nervous as he plated the fish, perhaps it was his first time serving the fish. At this point, we decided to be amused and grateful for the restaurant that Gordon Ramsey wasn't there. The vegetables were cooked well, still firm and not mushy. The salmon portion was cooked well; the scallop looked like it was steamed as it was missing the golden brown color of a sear, but at least it wasn't rubbery; the other white fish (mahi mahi and trout) were both overcooked and dry. The sauces helped, but were broken and had a strange viscosity. The rice pilaf had so much saffron that it had a bitter unpleasant taste. The salted fish plate had bones mixed throughout the fish pieces and chunks of salt mixed in, which required careful chewing. The first crunch was alarming, but not as shocking as the saltiness that flooded my mouth. We were asked by the waiter and hostess how the food was, but we couldn't figure out how they could improve if the execution of techniques was clearly lacking. We didn't want to put our poor waiter through more tense dissecting of another fish! We did not get dessert, which seemed to bother the other waiter. Overall, we chalked the experience as entertainment. Next time we will go back to eat at St. Jacques, Rue Cler, or Coquette for French food.

This meal was very disappointing. We came here for my wife's birthday. The best part of the meal was the fresh bread. The escargot were already out of the shell, which is fine, but they included the snail fork so I'm not sure if it used to be in shell or not. The three fish with scallop combo was a bit sad. The scallop had no color, but was cooked appropriately otherwise. The other fishes we're freshish, but lacked the medium rare cook. The hose special salt encrusted red snapper was a flop. The fish was not encased appropriately. The waiter, bless his heart, didn't appear to have ever deboned a fish before. Red snapper is a great fish, if the waiter can't plate the fish you shouldn't have them do it tableside. This was topped with a "hollandaise" that was in reality just a broken butter sauce. The flavors throughout the meal were fine but the technique and presentation were lack luster. Maybe college me would have enjoyed it, but it isn't the quality I'd expect for a $100 meal.

Everyone was very nice and attentive, but most of the food just wasn't very good. Salad was great, but bisque, rack of lamb, duck Wellington (my wife ordered), and dessert neither one of us really liked. Our waitress kept up very well with her tables including ours, but was dismissive/sarcastic when I asked what year a few red wines were; and in fact after checking they were two years younger than their website indicated. And I ordered a "snifter of Baileys", meaning in a snifter with no ice (I used to be in the restaurant business), and got it in a shot glass, and a bad under-pour at that. It was also extremely noisy in the main dining room. Nice bathrooms though. Might be back because we love French food, but it will be a while.

Katherine Sandrock

Subpar food, nonexistent parking, and terrible staff. We were seated in the back of the restaurant and could hear staff members talking about guests and shouting profanity at each other in the back. They even called one of the dishes “the one the smells like death.” Completely ruined our lunch. The only redeeming quality was the cute atmosphere. I will be returning to make sure my review is accurate since I do not like leaving negative reviews, especially based on one experience. I will edit this review after my next visit.

Alexis Girault

Sadly this was a pretty underwhelming experience. Came for a brunch/lunch and had a savory crêpe. There was in my opinion enough cheese for 3 crêpes in there, and it was almost suffocating... and I'm a cheese advocate! My wife felt the same way. Also, half the side salad was wilted, it looked like it was a day old. In my opinion that's the kind of details that show a lack of dedication to quality... or maybe that was just a bad day for them... but I expect more than nasty salad from a restaurant at this price. I haven't been there for dinner there yet, and according to other reviews it seems worth it so you probably should not let my review stop you from trying it yourself, but today's experience won't help me want to try it again for some time, especially with Kitchen less than 2 miles away.

Provence has always been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions. Recently my family celebrated my birthday there with a Sunday Brunch. Not the usual great experience and I have been hearing this from other locals recently. The food was mediocre and the service was really poor. Too expensive for it not to be great.
