Fantastic iced vanilla latte! Ambience was great and the baristas are so kind.
High quality coffee (drip, espresso and cold brew). Small shop - probably not good for sitting with a laptop and working. But one of the best options if you're a coffee snob needing a fix on the upper East side.
One of my favorite NYC coffee shops! Not only do they have delicious espresso but they literally serve the most delicious chai lattes of all time. :)
Zomg this coffee is good. Regular price for a NYC flat white, $4. Take cash and card, all amounts. Only 6 seats in the place but did I mention how good the coffee was?
Birch is one of NYC's best local coffee chains, with several locations throughout the city. A favorite place of mine to drop in at while out for a city stroll or running errands, the UES branch is cozy and hip, more akin to a coffee stand than a full blown shop. But this is its strength, and the coffee and service are rightfully the primary focal points at this location. The cold brew is well regarded as the best around. But personally, I always order a cappuccino or an americano. Grab a punch card and don't rush out, the good vibes at Birch seem to be in unlimited supply.
Great little coffee spot. Excellent coffee, plus they always have a couple of gluten free pastry options
I love this coffee shop. The staff is very nice and welcoming, service is quick and easy and they have the best blueberry muffins. Highly recommended
Stopped in here while waiting for a bus and was very impressed. The staff was very friendly and the latte was delicious. It was a great atmosphere to sit by the window, enjoy the drink, and read a book. I only wish they had a bigger space so more people could do the same.
blackberry matcha is the best drink they have on the menu. so sad it’s seasonal.
Beautiful cappuccino, hazelnut and chocolate notes, smooth, and a very long finish. Holding up very well as temperature goes down, perhaps even getting better. Also very friendly folks behind the counter. Only drawback of this cute shop: Little space to sit or stand. .
A very good solid coffee spot. I like their lattes, they are frothy like I like. :)
Great for coffee and/or tea. Smaller food selection but the muffin was good.
Love the vibe! Staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Cone here if you want coffee from folks who know coffee! Accessibility: Entrance is a bit narrow . It is a standing room only spot, so relatively spacious in that sense.
Wonderful great atmosphere. I would highly recommend Birch Coffee. Hopefully the world can open up more after the pandemic and people can gather in public places and feel comfortable and safe. For now, it’s take out. I would highly recommend Birch Coffee.
This is the best Birch location in the city. The midtown location seems to pump out espresso at a high volume but without respect to taste. At 62nd st it's always a great shot. They have the best roast of any in NYC!
Fabulous, I wish we had one of these locally at home. Coffee was amazing. This place is very busy though so make sure you get there at the right time.
I used to work here and I still love to get bevies from here. Enough said? I think so. Great, locally roasted beans, solid non-dairy milk choices, and the BEST chai concentrate ever. If you even remotely like chai, have one of theirs and ask for a milk combo of hemp/soy. They might look at you oddly but just throw em a tip and tell them “thank you for accommodating”, and then try to pace yourself to NOT drink it down in under a minute. Such a fun treat! Occasionally they will have the vegan banana bread in the case, try it, it’s delicious. Long live birch coffee.
I'm just going to come out and say it. Birch Coffee is the best coffee in New York City. Regardless of whether you like roasty chocolatey flavors or bright citrusy flavors, they've got you covered. The staff is also super friendly (and skilled). Get a cup, get a bag of beans, stay caffeinated, stay happy.
Birch coffee is always delicious, but I've been so impressed with how they're handling the COVID-19 pandemic. They are taking orders kind of like a street stall, and I've made a habit now of grabbing an iced latte from them on my way to walk my dog in the park. The baristas are really friendly and charming; it's a great way to start your morning.
Espresso made to perfection is what you’ll find in this tiny coffee shop on a quiet street in Manhattan. This place is a minimalist’s dream. It’s so small I almost couldn’t find it. Baristas were friendly and order was delivered promptly. My chai latte was delicious, I even got a refill before I left. They also have lots of pasteries that are absolutely delicious. Try the blueberry muffin!
Great little trendy coffee shop. With great coffee I might add. And they are about average on the price range. So if your in the area I suggest you pop in for a cup of joe. As every designer coffee shop like this has their unique flavors to offer.
Craft coffee in a very tiny location. There's three or four bar stools at the window but it gets cramped. It's a great spot to grab a to go coffee or wait for a friend. I don't recommend meeting someone for coffee here because the seating is not made for that.
A tiny—but tidy—hole in the wall next to the barber shop. Hence the address number with 1/2 ;) Consistently best service and quality coffee at all of their locations but this is my fav. It’s convenient if you’re going across the 59th Street Bridge. This Street is right on the approach. Cute cafe that is quintessential small shop feel you used to always expect around Sutton Place.
A great spot to grab a quick coffee when in the neighborhood. A curated selection of breakfast pastries; no seating. Friendly, fast service. Love that they open a little earlier than other cafes (the “city that never sleeps” sure seems to wake up late). Other options in the area are basically just Starbucks. I prefer Birch!
Cozy little cafe with bar seating with a street-view. Excellent place to people-watch while waiting for your coffee. The staff were friendly, well-dressed baristas which played into the setting.
Wonderful spot to grab a quick coffee and a bite! The staff, led by extraordinary Marisa, is always so kind. My whole office loves Birch. Friendliest coffee shop in NYC!
Well slap me silly and call me Betty. Today I finally admitted it to myself: I am a birch b🌟tch! I go through 2-2.5 punch cards a week😅 I have visited almost every location and this one is the best by far although 88th and 8th spruce hold a special part of my heart). I’ve never had a bad cup (disclaimer I once tried seasonal blend and did not love it!) The staff is so kind and thoughtful. They all have golden hearts. In addition, I have a lot of allergies. Birch makes their own milk which is gluten free, vegan, and hormone friendly. FYI: I’m pretty sure every single shelf stable milk has a gum in it (Xantham gum, locust bean gum, etc.) which really upset my stomach. TBH most people don’t know about how bad those added gums are to their digestion until they give them up. Anyways since birch makes their own milk, I never feel sick after. The only other cafe in the city that I know makes their own milk is matchaful but they don’t sell coffee. If I could change one thing, I would ask that the employees make an Instagram account for their store bc that’s 100% a missed opportunity @birch. Also, I would ask people to tip güd I love you too Birch Xoxo Lil😎 P.S. yup i did snag the last tahini chocolate chip cookie today P.S.S see u tmr 🫡 #lowcalorie #glutenfree #vegan #hormonefriendly #bestcoffee
the staff is very friendly and stays friendly, even when they're busy. always good vibes in the early morning when i go most often. the coffee and pastries are super delicious. heads up that it's a cute, tiny spot with no seating except a bench out front.
Whenever people come from out of town I always bring them to this specific location of Birch. They are some of the kindest and hardest working baristas in the whole city! The atmosphere is nice and cozy, everyone clearly feels welcome here. Best matcha latte's in the city (I get mine with the housemade oat milk... YUM!).
The coffee shop is off one of the major avenues and offers a quiet and comfortable artsy vibe to slow down with an amazing cup of espresso. The cappuccino is perfectly portioned in my taste (slightly on the stronger side for others). The espresso flavor is great and the spot is definitely worth checking out for coffee buffs looking for a more local brew.
Excellent coffee, very tiny space, nowhere to sit. Good if you're on-the-go, bad if you want to sit and chat.
New to NYC and saw this small coffee shop so went in to try it put and kept going back the rest of my trip. Loved everything about it, the vibe, the coffee, the kindness of the staff and the almond croissant. They had some GF baked goods for my bestie who needed GF. Highly recommend this place for your next coffee!!
I will always stop at a Birch whenever I see one. This cozy (emphasis on cozy) location is my go to. The chili cheese palmier hits the spot.
Adorable little coffee shop. If you love coffee and are in NYC this is a must try spot for you, it is for sure on my top 5 list of favourite coffee places. They also offer hot chocolate for people that are not fans of coffee. The place is small so there is not much seating space but they offer coffee to go and also have a bench to sit on outside. Very friendly staff!
Very good coffee. The espresso is pretty solid. Where they excel is with their Kyoto Iced Coffee (I believe it's summer only) and their ready-made drip coffee. It's hard to find places in NYC where the drip on tap tastes fresh. Also the baristas are great, very friendly people!
I love Brich. Visited different branch. The coffee & their cookies are so good! I’d recommend to try their cookies with your coffee. I tried cappuccino, flat white, ice latte. All are great. Staff are so friendly.
Outstanding beverages and very friendly staff. It's not large but it's a pleasant space. There IS minimal seating along the window. The hot vegan chai made with oat milk (!) is one of the best vegan cafe drinks in NYC!
After a night out with friends and waking up rather groggy and a bit under the weather from the night before, I was in need of some coffee to get my day going. Birch was recommended by a friend and was right around the corner from where we were so we decided to check it out. The quaint industrial ambiance of this small upper east side cafe is really cool and the coffee is among some of the best that I've tasted. They offer several different roasts and a couple different types of lattes, cappuccino, espressos, etc. I'll definitely be going back. Contemporary music with an eclectic palate of modern and traditional decor for a cafe definitely sets this place apart as a great cafe in the city.
I love this coffee shop. The staff is super friendly and they provide amazing customer service! I work in the area and try to make it a point to stop by at-least twice a day for a coffee and a chat. I just wish the same staff was always working. I’m a huge fan of Sesh, Zam, Jen & Marissa! I look forward to the great coffee and the same friendly staff. I don’t mind the new people but the vibe just isn’t the same without the same staff the neighborhood has come to love.
Birch is always delightful, but this shop is just amazing. Even if its busy, your drink will be made super fast without sacrificing the incredible coffee/expresso experience that makes Birch synonymous with high quality coffee.
This is definitely the best coffee I had in New York. When I saw the color and texture of the foam I already knew it was going to be good, but when I tasted it the experience only improved. Perfectly balanced, great body, right temperature. I was in the city for 7 days and I went every morning to get my espressos. Thank you for everything!
Straight up the best mocha I've ever had. Really friendly atmosphere and staff, too.
This is a very popular spot. I think they have a lot of regulars. We popped in for breakfast. A scone, yogurt, flat white & a latte. This barista knows how to pull delicious coffee. It had a great depth of flavour. In our mind one of the best cups in the city. Be patient, wait in line & you will be rewarded.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully served – honestly every bite was a treat. 😍 Their coffee is rich and smooth, just what you need to brighten up your day ☕✨.
Delicious coffee and friendly staff! They made the best Almond cappuccino I’ve had in a long time.
Super cute coffee shop in upper east side ! I was looking for a last iced americano before leaving New York. I was not disappointed. The place itself is tiny, like a small corner shop. It is really cute. The staff is very kind and they have good selection of drinks and pastries. I have to come back !
Thank you for having for-here, reusable, plastic-free options for me today! I hate making single use plastic waste—especially since plastics come from fossil fuels, which are exacerbating the climate crisis—and appreciate the cortado served in a real glass. Hoping you can promote this option more to folks enjoying their delish coffees in-house. Thanks for considering! 😊
My favorite coffee in Manhattan and this is also the branch of Birch coffee which has the best prepared coffee and really good peanut butter cookies . I wish they had more seating so one could enjoy a place to drink one’s coffee . The cafe has all the necessities needed for your caffeine fix , all provided in a very tiny space . Nothing is lacking except seats . The service is friendly and fast too .
Wife and I got the hot cocoa and an ice latte. The hot cocoa was very nice, smooth, and rich. The ice latte was meh. I feel like the large iced latte has the same amount of espresso as the large. I had to go to starbucks and buy another shot of starbucks to get my fill in.
Nice tiny coffee corner with good coffee and tasty pastry. There are very few places, however, it’s cozy and nice there. In addition, there is a book shelf full of various books. You can pick one or several for free. To my mind, that’s a wonderful to get a cup of coffee and a book to read while you are seeping your drink!
Excellent coffee and a must if you are staying around there! Very small joint with a couple window seats. I braved the rain and it was worth every sip of my oat milk flatwhite. Staff is super friendly!
Decent espresso (4/5 in my subjective scale - good texture and pleasant sourness but lacking in taste depth, not bitter though) and delicious iced chai latte (we took one with whole milk). Would mKe a roundabout to get a coffee if I were few blocks away.
Stopped here a few years ago, trying to identify "where the locals go" in Manhattan. It seemed well-reviewed, so we walked through Central Park and gave it a go. The iced coffee (red eye variant) was good - I struggle to find truly GREAT coffee in NYC. We also had a fresh pastry - also good. Service was acceptable, and the atmosphere was cozy.
The cold brew growlers are excellent but they give stars for cups of coffee but none for growlers!! This is cheap and bad customer relations I paid a five dollar deposit for the jug now they raised prices by 20percent I want growler stars to be given to reward customer loyalty! As soon as a new company comes with a better attitude and decent coffee I'm switching Success should not encourage a company to treat customers as if we don't matter!
This place is tiny. Rickety bench outside if you can grab a seat. The coffee is okay. No place to sit inside. More interesting is the 13 foot wide brownstone directly across the street.
Coffee is great, cups are way too small. $4.50 for a cold brew cup that looks like it's maybe 8 oz is just ridiculous. Too many other competing shops in the area to support one that's shrinking sizes/upping prices.
Good standard coffee but expected more based on the other reviews and the cost to other coffee shops, potentially more to do with taste preference. Service was poor, not even a smile 😒
A cute spot, with a nice vibe to it. This is a well intentioned review; to mention that the two coffees I got, both didn't extract properly, and there was no flavour to the roast. They did come out fast (under 20 seconds), so that could be it - and would just need to adjust that slightly with a finer grind and longer extraction - maybe a new bag with different densities, or maybe it was simply and older bag with most of the flavour gone. The other star is for varrying (excessive) milk heat. One coffee was potable and the other was much hotter, and burned my tongue (so that was a sad moment). I'm sure both can be easily remedied - cheers
Birch Coffee has clearly gone downhill — both the coffee quality and the service have noticeably declined. Coffee is now often served in plain, cheap white disposable cups instead of real mugs, sometimes without any Birch branding at all. The photos included from before and after show the contrast clearly: what used to feel thoughtful and high-quality now feels careless and miserable.
I wanted to try local coffee on the ues, I think the concept is cool a small shop the workers are friendly. But the coffee isn’t the bed either you get a really bitter coffee or a coffee that taste like milk no in between. Also for $7 it’s not worth it I have to pour my own sweetener on top of that.
Cute cafe, but questionable coffee quality. Latte that tasted more like a drip coffee with oat milk than an espresso based drink.
Birch is one of my favorite coffee joints however the staff at the 62nd St location is incompetent and unprofessional. I dropped in 30 min before closing and the female barista was too lazy to do a pour-over! Are you effing kidding me? I reluctantly opted for a cold brew which was diluted and disappointing. Avoid this location.
The coffee is OK, but the service really sucks. Showed up within 45 min of their closing hour, and they refused to serve me a coffee in a ceramic cup! Come on, you run a coffee shop, but you're too lazy to wash a cup, and on top of that you want a tip?? Also, it wouldn't kill you to say hello to your customers. I'll take Starbucks any day....
Been going here for 8 years since it opened, and lady at register tries to sell me a mask for 2 dollars (had forgotten my mask) instead of being nice and selling an espresso from the open pickup window. Joking right? After 8 years going here daily - my business is no longer going here. Go to le pain a bit further down, better coffee as well.
Normally birch has great coffee but I got some this afternoon and it was undrinkable. Tasted like muddy water. Went right into the trash, wasted $6
We were really looking forward to having a great experience here, especially after reading so many positive reviews. It honestly pains me to write this, but it needs to be said: allergies and intolerances should never be taken lightly. My partner, who is lactose intolerant, had a severe reaction after drinking her order. We had specifically asked for oat milk, but it seems her drink may have been made with regular milk or topped with something containing dairy. The reaction she experienced was very similar to what happens when she consumes dairy without lactaid. I will say the place was busy when we visited, but even under pressure, this kind of oversight is not excusable. Thankfully, her intolerance isn’t life-threatening like a peanut allergy might be—but that doesn’t make it any less serious. I hope this serves as a reminder of how important it is to double-check orders, especially when a dietary restriction is clearly communicated.
Really friendly staff, really bad oat matcha. The staff is really sweet and friendly so worth trying out if you're in the neighborhood. That said, this is the worst oat milk I've ever had, the drink is undrinkable. The matcha itself is just meh. The coffee smelled good and I have to assume that's the reason for the good reviews.
Say what you will about Starbucks - at least their coffee has some crema and body. This had none. Just hot water, a splash of milk, and whatever was left of a tired espresso shot. Keep pouring syrup on it - maybe that's the only way to hide the mediocrity
I stopped by to get a coffee with my dog. I know Birch doesn't allow dogs inside so I parked her outside. However, where they place the dog park hook is in front of the door. My dog is very small but there's just no way that she doesn't block the door. Of course I got rolled eyes from the other customer because my dog is blocking the door. But it's not my fault! Why should I get the dirty looks? Don't bring your dogs here. They're hypocrites and should just say they're not dog friendly at all. The customers definitely are not.
