As small portion eaters, we ordered Salmon Royale and Wild Mushroom and latte. Salmon is fresh and with the crunch squared shape hash brown with poach eggs, together with the sauce come with it, this is really a recommended order. For mushroom lovers, this Wild Mushroom Bruschetta is a good choice. Come with sourdough and sauce with poach eggs, together with beans and other spices makes the texture taste just nice. Latte with smooth milk taste is a plus point for above nice food. Friendly and helpful waitress during serving. Visited with only two of us as early as 845am, walk in still can have available seats right away. After 9.15am, this place starts to become crowded and might have to wait for your queue.
Today we are exploring Edinburgh, and in day one, our first stop for breakfast is Greenwoods. Very beautiful and lovely spot for breakfast, we just walked in without reservation and staff members welcomed us with a smile, all tables were full and they told us if we come after 45 minutes they can arrange a table. We did so by enjoying exploring the neighbourhood and when we came back, our table was ready! We enjoyed the traditional breakfast but not very impressed with the quality and taste of the food. Friendly staff, great location and atmosphere. The cost a bit high for breakfast, and they charge you extra for service!
A lot of people recommended this place, and for good reason! The food was delicious. I got the breakfast stack pancakes which was a lot of food, but so good. The staff are always around in case you need anything, and the restaurant is a good size so that it cannot get too loud. The bathrooms are also stocked with a variety of menstrual products which is awesome! There was about a 30 min wait for me, one person, but there are a couple cafes up the street you can go grab a coffee while you wait.
It’s such a magical place. The moment we walked in, we could smell roses - it was so pleasant & instantly set the mood. There were roses on every table, which felt like a small but really meaningful detail that I absolutely loved. I really appreciate places that care about those little things, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who does:) There was no main lighting, just candles and a few small lamps at the bar, which made everything feel calm & intimate. The wooden furniture & nice paintings on the walls added to this kind of historical, yet cozy vibe. And the food… just incredible♥️ Scottish Breakfast and banana bread — so delicious. Highly recommend this place. Lovely staff as well! Totally my favorite✨
A wonderful, cozy café conveniently located in the heart of Edinburgh. It blends traditional charm with a touch of modern flair, and the service is warm and genuinely friendly. The menu offers a wide variety of options — I chose the traditional Scottish breakfast, which was excellent. Most importantly, the coffee is rich and aromatic. The café attracts a steady flow of patrons, so a bit of patience may be required, but the staff do an admirable job of seating guests as quickly as possible.
2nd visit, Jan 2026: As planned, I ordered the stack of pancakes that looked so appetising last time and I wasn't disappointed! Every mouthful was heaven on the taste buds! This is now my fave brunch/lunch place. Im hooked and cant wait to come back again. Need to try other drinks, as I went for the Buddha Tea again today! 😄 1st visit, Sept 2025: So glad I came across this place on IG. The food looks beautiful and most importantly, it was delicious! I ordered the Buddha Tea (mix of various teas) which was really nice and then ordered the Dutchman - ham, egg and cheese on top of sourdough bread with pesto. It was a huge portion and just absolutely 💯% t tasty. The next table ordered a pancake stack which looks divine too. That will be my order for next time!
We arrived right when Greenwoods opened and it was already bustling, but thankfully we managed to get a table. The staff were attentive and welcoming, striking just the friendly. The interior has a warm, intimate feel — though a little on the dim side — and the atmosphere was lively without being overwhelming. The food was fantastic: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Overall, a wonderful breakfast experience that absolutely lived up to the hype.
Great brunch restaurant! Friendly and attentive staff and their food is amazing. We actually tried to book a table but apparently didn’t hit the last confirmation button, however, there was a spot open and we were assigned a seat. Their pancake stack with bacon was great. The Bellini very tasty. Can only recommend
We booked in advance for my girlfriend’s birthday and they gave us a seat at the window, the view was perfect (given that we like to people watch!). The scottish breakfast was phenomenal, everything was cooked perfectly and the Chai tasted amazing, the cinnamon on top wasn’t overpowering either! (a lot of places put too much on so i felt it had to be noted). The staff were absolutely fantastic and so sweet, they even stuck a “happy birthday” banner and a candle into the birthday girl’s hash brown! Also a plus is that we were able to buy the cups they used, very affordable price for those. overall, it was a lovely and welcoming atmosphere with equally as lovely food. A must visit for sure!
Wonderfully elegant spot for earlier dining. We stopped by for brunch and had a great meal. This is a place that you certainly need reservations as it is relatively small inside. My full Scottish was delicious, served hot along with the rest of the table. Espresso and cappuccino were good and served in some really neat and unique lookimg ceramic cups (we purchased one as a souvenir of the trip). The food was very good and the wait staff was excellent getting the order right and navigating the tight space.
Had the most amazing breakfast here! So glad to see the amount of veggie and vegan options. Highly recommend the veggie “traditional” scottish breakfast. Everything was to die for and the service was great. I recommend reserving a table in advance because it gets busy really quickly. Also, when it’s full, it gets a bit tight, and you are sat very very close to strangers. Just something to consider if you get overwhelmed easily with little space.
This was the best brunch of my entire life ! Excellent quality of products and great service. I took the full scottish, a lavender white hot chocolate and an orange juice. Incredible flavours here. You need to book before going and careful you’ll have about 1h to eat that is quite short to relax to my mind. However I recommend it 100%. To finish, the decoration is cosy and I had a cute candle on my table at the window! A perfect experience !🥰
This place is packed for a good reason! You come in and are immediately welcomed by the sweetest staff. We got the Breakfast Stack Pancakes, the portion is huge and we couldn’t finish it, but it’s fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the hashbrown with sour cream and spring onions. It was also my first time tasting the pancakes with butter, bacon and maple syrup and definitely not my last time! For drinks I got Edinburgh fog which is rather sweet but it’s a hug in a cup. I highly recommend making a reservation. Next time in Edinburgh, we’ll definitely come back🩵.
Went early in the morning to get breakfast at Greenwoods and glad I had made a reservation as it was packed! Which is a testament to how good the food is there. Was seated at a table quickly, the service and staff were very kind and fast. I ordered the full scottish breakfast, it was one of the best breakfast meals I've had in a long time. The scrambled eggs were seasoned so well and so soft and fluffy, the haggis was very tasty, the irish soda bread was fresh, the hashbrown cube was crispy and delicious. I can't recommend this place enough, will be thinking of the food here for a long time :) Thank you for the fantastic meal.
You gotta have reservations! They had me seated because luckily a take was available but the time I arrived. I recommend ordering the Egg Florentine Caccio E Pepe egg on toast. It was sooo good.
Lovely food and staff, the pancakes were amazing!! A little loud. Dim lights which made it more cozy! A bit expensive but worth it:)
Went there for breakfast and had a Full Scottish Breakfast. It was my first time trying one, but I think this is one of the best you can find in Edinburgh. The plate was extremely full, as you can see. As a drink, I had the Mona Lise Smile Tea (I hope I remember the name right). It tasted so nice and again, the portion of it was more than enough. Overall, I would definitely recommend you try a Scottish Breakfast here. You may need to make a reservation beforehand though.
Despite being very busy (which is a good thing), the service and food were amazing! The quality of the food was excellent and the price was fair. Can definitely recommend!
🌿 An absolute gem in the heart of Edinburgh! 🌿 Greenwoods is one of those places that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. Cozy, beautifully designed, and full of warmth — it’s the kind of café you end up thinking about long after you’ve left. 🍳 The food is incredible — fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented, and clearly made with love. Whether you’re going for brunch, lunch, or just coffee and cake, everything is top-notch. So many thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options too! 🧡 The staff are truly exceptional — kind, attentive, and full of positive energy. You feel genuinely cared for, never rushed, and always welcome. ☕ The atmosphere is calm and uplifting — perfect for a relaxed meal, catching up with friends, or taking a quiet moment for yourself. ✨ One of my favorite spots in Edinburgh, hands down. If you’re in the city, don’t miss it — Greenwoods is comfort, quality, and kindness all wrapped into one beautiful place.
Very nice vintage place with a Scottish vibe inside. Traditional Scottish Breakfast was amazing. We also tried some pancakes. Personnel was polite and made sure we are feeling okay. There is a children's version of the pancakes with maple sirup, which were also good. They have some nice coffee served in one of the most beautiful coffee cups I've seen (which they also sell by the way ;) ). I would recommend this place and would visit again if I get the chance.
Perfect breakfast! I would go back immediately, our food was delicious and the food variety on the menu was incredible. The pesto potatoes on the veggie full breakfast? Superb idea, surprisingly works very well. I wish I could become a regular.
Went here for my husband’s 30th brunch! Had added a note about his birthday and the staff were so sweet. His pancake stack came with a wee candle in it and everything! The food was delicious, we had the salmon benedict and the breakfast stack and both were marvelous. The bacon was perfectly crispy and whoever came up with the idea to put a hash brown in the benedict is a genius! Best brunch I’ve had in Edinburgh!
It should tell you everything you need to know when we say that we arrived for the first time ever in Edinburgh, and THIS was the first place we visited. Amazing food, amazing staff. Breakfast all day long 🍴
Went here with my partner for her birthday brunch and it was lovely! Highly recommend booking in advance, like we did as it is was very busy. I had mentioned in the booking that it was her birthday and they brought out her meal with a candle! All the staff were lovely, so kind, the food was incredible with big portions, and there was a lively atmosphere to the place.
What a lovely little place this is! We booked via opentable a few hours before we visited for breakfast, so glad we did as it’s a small venue and very popular, we seen lots being turned away who hadn’t booked, this was midweek so we hadn’t expected it to as busy. We ordered 2 coffees which were sublime, so smooth 10/10. For food we had 1 full Scottish which was again very very good, nothing tasted greasy, you could taste it was excellent produce and went down a treat. Other had eggs florentine on GF toast with added feta… again so so fresh and tasted incredible. Staff were very very friendly, non intrusive and happy to answer menu questions and make recommendations. If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot in Edinburgh this is a great place to try. We will definitely be back when in the area.
Had a wonderful time at Greenwoods Edinburgh! The full scottish breakfast was good, the staff adorable and the place pleasant to start the day !! Totally recommend 🫶🏼 Note : Best to book in advance because this place’s really popular 🙌🏼
It looked super cute, the staff was absolutely wonderful and the food was so good. I had the Edinburgh fog to drink and i definitely recommend!
Easily the best breakfast I've had in a long time. Lovely little place with very attentive staff. Not too cheap, but definitely worth it.
Absolutely wonderful breakfast, we didn't book for a table of 4 and they managed to squeeze us in, but I'd definitely recommend booking as we just got really lucky! The whole place was packed out. The tables are quite close together, but it didn't affect our meal or the atmosphere. Our food was spectacular, the pancakes were light and fluffy, and the home made hash browns were perfect. The mushroom and goats cheese on toast was sublime, with the right amount of cheese to add a softness to the bread. All of the staff were clearly working extremely hard, and the bill does include a service charge, but we all thought this was well deserved and well earned. Everything came out very quickly, and we didn't spend forever waiting. We'll be back next time we're in Edinburgh, but with a reservation next time!!
I had a wonderful experience at this breakfast restaurant. The Scottish breakfast was absolutely delicious—everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. It was my first time trying haggis, and I was pleasantly surprised—it was the best I’ve ever had! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, especially the lady with glasses who stood out for her warm and friendly service. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great start for the day.
We both enjoyed a great traditional Scottish breakfast here yesterday. The haggis was great, the size of the plate of food was large and perfectly cooked. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere and cafe decor was relaxing. We would definitely visit again.
I had a lovely experience yesterday morning at Greenwoods with my boyfriend, as we visited for the first time despite hearing great things by many people. I can certainly see why it has become a staple in both tourists itinerary and local culture as it has good food, atmosphere and service. The lady with clips either side of her hair was particularly attentive and had a very friendly attitude. The food was presented well, so much so the couple sitting next to us asked what we ordered and got the same thing! If there was to be any requests, please include a standard second slice of toast with the full breakfast because the one included was small and added little to the dish.
Called here for breakfast where we received a warm welcome. I wasn't keen on the small chipped pot that the cappuccino was served in, no doubt manufactured that way but chipped pots aren't right. Both the Americano and cappuccino were on the weak side. The Scottish breakfast arrived at speed to our table within minutes. The breakfast was lovely but unfortunately cooled quickly due to the plates being cool, the mushrooms were actually cold by the time I uncovered them. Unfortunately there's no mention of a service charge on their website menu, although it is stated clearly on the bill, but of course by then you've already eaten. I'm not a fan of the service charge, I will always tip higher than the 12.5% which they applied should I receive good service, and good service it was. Surely only the customer can be the judge of what service they have received. The restaurant is quite cramped with loud acoustics.
In this café, you’ll find a cozy vibe. I love the paintings on the wall, and although the place isn’t very big, it’s really charming. The Scottish breakfast was okay, nothing special, and the haggis was fine, though not amazing (I’ve had better). Still, it’s a nice way to experience a traditional Scottish breakfast in a pleasant setting. The staff are very friendly and always check if everything is okay. I’d recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid waiting, as it’s a very popular spot. I had to wait about 30 minutes before a table became available.
The chips were amazing, but apart from that, we thought, as the reviews suggested, that we’d be having really delicious food. It wasn’t quite like that. I can’t say it was bad (though the Americano was really poor), but it’s not a place I’d wait in line for again. Perhaps that’s on me—if you go in with lower expectations, you might leave more satisfied. That said, as someone who is aware of rising costs, I still found the prices here higher than they should be. The one thing I can genuinely praise is the staff—their attitude and behavior were excellent. They kept running around non-stop trying to keep up with everything, yet they continued to smile, and that really deserves recognition!
A very busy shop would require advance booking. The portions are not well-balanced tbf for same price but all tastes good. Coffee came too sweet and no impression as all but we both love the big bagels and banana breads the most, pancake abit overcooked but overall food is decent and worth a try!
Booked a table for 8:30am the day before as it’s clearly a popular spot. When we arrived the café was already almost full. It’s a nice, cozy place, though quite small and a bit cramped when busy. I had the eggs Benedict and my wife ordered sourdough with scramble and sausage. Overall it was okay maybe abit pricey considering the Benedict was a little bland and the eggs weren’t really runny. I also added sautéed mushrooms but they were quite watery rather than properly sautée. I do though recommend it overall as they were polite and welcoming, service wise and its a nice little bistro.
Delicious breakfast. We had the pancakes and the traditional scottish breakfast. Both were very good. The elderberry juice didn't taste much. Quick service (table reserved only for 1 hour). Additional 12.5% optional charge is added on to bill and can be removed.
Lovely Brunch Place in Edinburgh! Must try their Greek Eggs, full of bursting flavours! We absolutely loved the whole experience at Greenwoods. Giving four stars only because the Chia Pudding (even though amazing) was a very small portion for the price, and the Matcha latte was very weak. Other than that, it’s a great place! The staff is lovely as well!
Incredible menu with some very creative options. The food was truly outstanding, service exceptionally good, decor on point but the only thing didn't love about it was the ambience. They've packed slightly too many tables into a small space with bad acoustics meaning it was extraordinarily noisy. We could barely have a conversation. Other than that, loved this place.
Hibiscus and cherry fizz- perfectly sweet and you can taste both hibiscus and cherry. Topped off with a mint leaf for the extra refreshing flavour. Would have again. Staff- staff were friendly, were calm in a busy environment. Waited about 40minutes for food on a time tight schedule and then discovered our food hasn’t gone through due to a printer error. The staff apologised and promised to get the food out in 10minutes, keep in mind we are a family of 5 people. It only took around 15 minutes this time. But we still had to rush. Food was lovely though but pancakes didn’t taste the best. The things they came with such as sausages, bacon tasted very good, and we were given a 50% off everything discount for our inconvenience
We've booked this place for lunch after seeing the most amazing reviews online. I do have to say though that food was disappointing and there are better options around the city. Eggs benedict were served with a thick, dry piece of ham and spinach in eggs florentine was undercooked. Please be mindful of a very long waiting time - we came at 9:30 and the whole cafe was full already, it took over 30 kins to receive our order. On the positive side, staff is very nice and attentive.
Very busy brunch spot in Edinburgh. We made a reservation a couple of days in advance, which is definitely recommended. The place is very Instagrammable and the service is friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. We ordered the Eggs Mexicana and the Breakfast Stack Pancakes. What we liked least was the big difference in portion sizes. Since the dishes are similarly priced, you would expect similar portions. The Eggs Mexicana were tasty, but the portion was super small, if you ordered only this, you would probably leave still feeling hungry. The Breakfast Stack Pancakes, on the other hand, were a very generous portion. We were glad we could share both dishes so we didn’t leave hungry. Overall, it’s a great place for nice photos and a lively atmosphere, but if you’re mainly looking for an excellent brunch, there are better options in Edinburgh.
The place is nice and the service is good. I took the pancakes and I found them too hard and chewy. I actually left them because they were not balanced in the plate. Also the poached egg were a bit gummy and the veggie bacon was not good. The beans and the harsh brown were instead really good! Drink was ok. Next time I will try something different.
We ordered the breakfast stack pancakes plate and a chai latte. The chai latte was incredibly sweet. It was not like tea but like a cinnamon and sugar spread. pancakes were thick and doughy. However, the staff was polite and the service was fast. The restaurant may have other good foods but as a tourist my experience was not good. It was noisy and the place was dark.
