Our family recently dined at Firefly Grill, and it was truly an exceptional experience. Visiting from New York, Boston, and Florida, we chose this restaurant based on its strong reputation — and it exceeded our expectations. Our group sampled a wide variety of dishes, including the meatballs, chicken ramen, bao buns, caprese salad, and a 4oz filet, along with family-style sides of risotto, polenta, Brussels sprouts, and seasonal vegetables. Each dish was beautifully presented, expertly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The quality and flavor of every item reflected a thoughtful and creative approach to the menu. Our server was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed, adding to the overall charm of the evening. The only minor drawback was the pacing of service — some dishes arrived several minutes apart, leaving a few of our party waiting while others had already received their meals. That said, the overall experience was outstanding, and we look forward to returning. Firefly Grill is a true gem, and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.
What a great place to stop for lunch on your travels. Yes it's a slight bit of the beaten path but absolutely worth the detour and they have puppy dog food bowls so cute! The only thing I will recommend is to also bring a bowl of water for the pups. But other than that it was amazing the food was absolutely delicious we had the seasonal butternut squash soup and it was absolutely divine, so was the Muffletta and the best Shoshitos we have had in a restaurant. Thank you feel rba wonderful experience!
WOW!!! I literally was looking for a place to turn around and stumbled across this ABSOLUTE GEM! I ate at the bar (very nice bourbon selection I might add) Tammy was very cordial and welcoming. Food was off the chain. House ranch is one of a kind awesome. Pork chop dinner was top notch...can't say enough good...I will definitely be back and recommend anyone looking in the area DO NOT overlook this place you won't regret it.
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - outstanding dining experience. 5 star all around- service attentive and courteous, food delicious and pleasant to the palate, nice variety in the menu- we had hummus board, butternut squash soup and salad, Sea bass, ahi tuna, salmon, and dessert to finish a fabulous dinner. Firefly bread pudding, strawberry rhubarb sorbet. Fresh, fresh, delicious. The atmosphere is relaxing and enjoyable. Full bar available and wine list.
Firefly Grill Farm & Table is an absolute GEM! What sets this place apart is its commitment to freshness and sustainability—60% of the menu is sourced directly from their on-site farm, and the rest comes from local vendors. You can truly taste the difference. I started with the warm Bavarian pretzel bread paired with a rich beer cheese dip—comfort food at its finest. For lunch, the steak tacos with truffle fries were spot-on. Flavorful, satisfying, and beautifully presented. Nicole and Trapper lead an outstanding team that delivers not just great food, but also top-notch service in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. The music is upbeat and lively without being overpowering, adding to the overall vibe. Evie was my server and she was fantastic—knowledgeable, efficient, and genuinely friendly. She made the experience even better. Firefly Grill is now a must-stop for me whenever I’m passing through Effingham, and I’m already recommending it to friends and family. 10/10—highly recommend!
Best Restaurant Hands Down!!! Firefly is a 5 star restaurant all day. The fact they have a 4.6 on google is a tragedy! I have travelled the entire United States 3 times. I have eaten all over the place. This is the absolute hidden gem of Illinois. You have an opportunity to eat here , you should do it. It’s a little more costly than an average restaurant, but rightfully so. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, definitely order the steamed bun tacos. So good!!!
This was a stop on our way back to VT last night. A true farm to table restaurant. Salads were outstanding, fresh and vibrant with local ingredients. I had the banger and mash, she had she had the fried chicken. Delicious. Cocktails get a high mark with an excellent selection of bourbons and real italian cherries in the old fashion. Service, pace, ambiance great. Highly recommend.
This place delighted us so much we came back a second night. The look and feel of the place, philosophy, beautiful and bountiful gardens, well informed and personable staff and a menu full of absolutely incredible choices. It felt both comfortable and classy. We ate inside the first night and outside the second. Both were enjoyed.
So good!! The outside looks so fun and cute and the inside is super nice as well. Its very farm to table they grow most of the produce on the menu. We had the Bacon Jalapeno Rangoons , Smoked Berkshire Pork Belly , Roasted Duck Breast , tried a side of the whipped potatoes, and little man had the mac and cheese. Everything tasted wonderful and they had a patio with free fish food ! So little man had a blast. If your in the area I highly reccomend trying this place out !! Our server was also so sweet and helpful !
Fantastic atmosphere, great service (Tks Kim!!!!) had a quick dinner but all great and timely! Big plus for the Puppy Menu! (❤️❤️❤️) Definitely on my list for returning! Congrats to the whole team! Tried the basil, yes basil, ice cream ant it was a great experience!
Found this place while traveling. Must stop! So good! I stopped twice, once on my outbound trip for dinner then the next day on my return I stopped for lunch. Bonus is there is high speed charging available in the parking lot!!!
We had a wonderful dinner at Firefly Grill. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. Our server was friendly, personable, and very attentive, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a special evening out. Highly recommend!
Amazing restaurant. All of the food and drinks were fresh and delicious. Our server was outstanding. I especially loved the fish tacos. I've never had them made from salmon before; so good! The bread service and chicken noodle soup were equally great.
This is one of our favorite stops when we’re headed to New England from Oklahoma. Whether it’s lunch or dinner, the service is great and the food is exceptional. We love the original menu with local items and seasonal additions. Make it so special. This trip we highly recommend the muffuletta and red pepper Gouda soup.
I had a fantastic experience here! The food was absolutely excellent, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The indoor space was spotless, well maintained, and had a welcoming atmosphere. What really stood out was the outdoor seating area, it was incredibly picturesque, with a peaceful vibe that made the entire meal even more enjoyable. Whether you’re looking for a casual lunch spot or a charming place for dinner, this place definitely delivers on all fronts. Highly recommend!
Stopped here on our way to Chicago and left very satisfied with happy belly's. Ingredients used were good quality and fresh. Great ambience very picturesque!!
We had a great birthday dinner here with friends recently. The restaurant is a bit pricey compared to others in the area, but the food and service were both excellent. They have a great menu, although not many options for vegetarians. The atmosphere is nice and they have both indoor and outdoor patio seating options. Portions were large and presentation was fairly good. The steak was perfect and cooked exactly to order. My seared Ahi Tuna entree was very delicious and the fish was fresh and moist. We will definitely return here again sometime and will recommend it to others.
The service and food was amazing! Super friendly staff and everything we ordered was great. The sweet corn chicken was the best chicken and those potatoes are excellent. The burrata plate is so good, fresh cheese and bread! The crab purses were tasty and my husband's salmon was so good, too. Well worth it! We did have cocktails with dinner, the drinks were about $15 each so that added up but entrees were around $30 depending on what you get. Very good! Some of the best food we ever had, & we are from Chicago & travel often and this place is up there with the best! A must try! We will def. have to go for the brunch next! 😊
Wow! What a gem! They grow their own veggies and herbs, great food great ambiance on such a beautiful land with that pond and coy fish! I highly recommend!
Holy cow! Saw the signs for this place on the Interstate and decided to take a chance. Farm to table is absolutely true! Steak, shrimp, veggies, desert! All so fresh and delicious. I can’t wait to come back again!
We made a point to come here as we are traveling to Indiana. The first time we couldn’t get in because it was booked full for Valentine’s Day. It’s a neat concept (farm to table) and the place is beautiful. We had shrimp cocktail, salad, beef tenderloin, salmon, and crumble apple pie. It was delicious! Great service too.
Cannot say enough positive things about this place! Love they are dog friendly and dog lovers on the patio! The view is incredible and the food will exceed all expectations. We went for dinner and came back the next morning for brunch it was that good! All items you could taste how fresh the ingredients were and service went above and beyond for us and our dog. Will recommend to any one is the area for any meal time - especially the risotto for dinner and the chilaquiles for brunch!
Edit: I have returned to the Firefly a year after my initial review. The 1 star has been retracted and it is now a 5 star! From appetizer to dessert it was all excellent. The steak was exactly how i wanted it, it had a nice crust on it and seasoned nicely. The white balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the salad was great too. Happy i gave this place another shot and had a better experience this go around. Recommend Firefly to anyone that is wanting a nice dinner or good steak. Waited an hour. Waiter walked back up and informed us our food was never put in. Waited another 20 minutes still no food. 1 star in my book, might change the review if i ever return.
Loved this place, stopped to charge our EV Perfect place for a patio dining with our dog friends! Server was amazing! Farm to table food was delicious! They even have a pup menu!
I almost don't want to write a review because I may never be able to get another reservation again. The food is absolutely outstanding! The service was dead on. Everyone made sure my experience was the best. Nicole, my server, was a gem. Whether you sit inside or outside, the atmosphere is gorgeous. I drove 1.5 hours to get there and it was well worth it. The next time I go, I'll be bringing friends.
Simply outstanding. This place has it going on. Beautiful decor. Pleasant outdoor eating area. The back room has a nice view of the pond and their gardens. I’d love to learn the back story on this place and more about the chef. The food was excellent and presented well. Portions were perfect and satisfying. We had the baby back ribs and the veggie pizza.
We ordered Pork Porterhouse and 8oz fillet. Both cooked perfectly and delicious. Mashed potatoes were amazing also. Very unique restaurant with great service and food selection. Wish we lived closer so we could dine there more often. If you in the area don’t miss this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed.
Firefly Grill has a great selection of farm-fresh food. Everything is prepared to perfection. We have lunch or dinner there every chance we can when driving along I-57. The menu changes over time, so we hope to see their awesome Reuben sandwich back some day, but the fish & chips and poke bowl were very welcome alternatives. The waitstaff have excellent recommendations and are always friendly and helpful. Our visits this year did not find that the poke bowls had returned, but the maple-bourbon french toast was absolutely stunning! The Mediterranean salad and fish tacos were also excellent.
I absolutely love this place. Firefly is mine and my wife's favorite place to eat. We are foodies and travel all over eating at different types of restaurants. We spend roughly $175-$225 for my wife & I. We spend $300-$400 for 3-5 people. Some of our favorites are fried green tomatoes, New York strip, ribeye, beef wellington, seafood or clam chowders w/chabada bread, the soups, the salads, mushroom ravioli...and the list goes on. We've been too many times to count. The food is amazing, you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is great. The service is normally fantastic. My only complaints are the chairs not scooting under the tables, & one of the waitresses not so good anymore (she used to be my favorite). The chairs don't seem like an issue unless you have a bad back. My last visit, three tables around me, and I were stretching our backs due to the pain. The chairs not scooting up require you to bend over to reach the table while eating. If the table legs were charged, this wouldn't be a problem. The chairs are actually very nice and so are the tables. The wait staff are normally on top of it, and GREAT. One of the waitresses that has worked for Firefly (over a year, if not longer) has gone down with her service. The last two times I've had her as a waitresses she was horrible. She forgot we were there and didn't return to our table for 45 minutes. We had eaten the apps and soup. We sat waiting for our main course. She forgot to put the main course in (we found out after). The man I stopped asked us if we still wanted the steak. I said yes but told them to get it to go due to us waiting too long and it was late. It wasn't busy. We were the only table in the main dining area. She apologized and laughed it off. The next time she forgot to put in parts of our order, having the soups come out without the bread ordered with them. She didn't put in our main course on time and we waited much too long for it. I believe it's important to mention this as it causes the customer to wait and a table to be unavailable for the next reservation.
This was our last stop on our anniversary! We had an early dinner reservation and was able to sit on the water side. It was such a great view and the food, drinks, and service we impeccable. We ordered the truffle fries and 14oz ribeye to share with the whipped potatoes. The fries were so fresh and the ribeye was in the top 5 I have eaten. So tasty and filling! We enjoyed one of their April drinks and Elouan 2021 Oregon wine. Great place and a great experience.
This place had been on my radar to try for a while, but last year, driving back from vacation, I purposely routed us so we could stop here for brunch...and I literally cried because it is EVERYTHING I love in a restaurant: good service, beautiful surroundings, and excellent food, the total package which is not an easy thing to get right no matter where you're located. We loved it so much, we decided to return this weekend for our 35th wedding anniversary ❤️ Thank you for not one, but two incredible meals. It was worth the 4.5-hour drive!! Literally.
What a cool place. Everything was special and delicious. You can tell everything was made with love and care. And Koy fish were a special touch.
First time visit as we are from out of town. My husband and I both chose items from the brunch menu. I had the lemon curd french toast with berries and ice cream. My husband ordered the waffle and chicken with sausage gravy. Everything was delicious and portions were large. A little pricey, but service and atmosphere are excellent. Our server, Eddie was pleasant and efficient.
We went for New Years Eve, and we did the wine pairing with the Prix Fixe menu. We had drinks in the bar area ahead of dinner which were great. I have lived in Chicago for a long time and really looked forward to getting to the restaurant after moving to central Illinois. Overall it was a great experience. The service was excellent and the restaurant provided a very positive night. One course which did not hit was the Pave Potato with caviar course. It simply lacked the proper amount of caviar and was unimpressive. Look forward to our next visit.
We traveled four hours to meet my son and eat here because of the rave reviews. This restaurant is one of the best places I’ve ever eaten at. The food tasted so fresh. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes, Philly Cheesesteak, Muffuletta, Shrimp Cakes, Apple Cobbler, Creme Brûlée, and Nitro Cold Brew. Everything was excellent. We have already made plans to go back. It’s definitely worth the drive. The restaurant has such a nice atmosphere to it. We sat on the covered porch and watched the rain. I highly recommend eating here.
This place was a breath of fresh air and honestly made my stomach very happy. The servers were amazing the food was high quality reminded me of the high end restaurants in LA end and New York. Food came out perfect and didn't take long. Stop to charge my car and now I have a must stop when ever I find myself in the area. Also the pricing is perfect I would have and have in the past paid triple for the food quality I had the pan salmon and the banana cake my server was Faith she needs her own resurant and to be the house lead or something this woman new the menu and was able to help me find the right desert has I am not a sweets person.
Traveling thru and found this gem. If you are in a hurry, maybe not, but… great little place. The cleanest restrooms, cute decor thru whole place. Chase was our great server, very kind and helpful. Hubs ordered the Philly beer cheese in pretzel hoagie! 2 thumbs up! I ordered flash fries cod with malt vinegar fries and it did not disappoint! Would highly recommend and would stop again!
We went out to eat my last night visiting son and family. Sam our waiter was amazing, kind, and was welcoming. He interacted with the little one, she really liked him. The food was amazing, We started off with the truffle fries and calamari. I hand the Pan-Roasted Canadian Salmon wirh butternut squash puree, macaroons Parmesan ravioli, cider- braised squash and sweet potato, and toasted pumpkin seed.
Had a very good meal here while traveling thru this area. A would higher recommend anyone having a meal here. You truly get what you pay for. Freshly made meals whatever you might order. Forget the price just sit down and enjoy a good meal. They have a squash soup that I have never had any better anywhere I have traveled.
We went to celebrate a birthday with friends. Reservations were easy to make and our table was on one of the porches on the back side over the lake. Three of us tried the 5 course New Years Eve menu and one ordered off the main menu. It was better than I had hoped it could be. The lobster bisque had chunks of lobster. The oxtail French onion soup had perfectly cooked meat along with the usual bread, cheese, broth, and onion. The greens on our salad were fresh and crisp where they should be. They offered a lamb sticky bun with tatziki sauce as the third course and while we didn't anticipate it being something we would like (I was thinking it would be similar to what you would get from a Wow Bao restaurant) it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the dinner. It was essentially a mini gyro with a fluffy dumpling in the place of the pita. Impressively flavorful but not too rich. And it wasn't greasy like a typical gyro. We had a filet, a bone-in ribeye, and the salmon for the main course. All were cooked perfectly, had excellent cuts of meat, and the sides were perfectly seasoned. We ended up getting dessert to go, and while it was a bit rich, the toasted merengue and fruit puree evened out the richness of the chocolate cake. I had a non-alcoholic spirit which reminded me of the drinks on our recent cruise and the guys had whiskey drinks which were all top-notch, especially for the cost. The main menu item was fried chicken. It came out perfectly cooked, crunchy but moist, and with excellent flavor. We were all pleasantly surprised with how the breading didn't turn out greasy. The soup of the day was chili and it had a great mix of beans and meat. Overall a 10/10 experience. It will definitely continue to be our go-to restaurant for special event celebrations.
February 2026 This is the 2nd visit and as enjoyable as the 1st one. Food was delish! Just need some polishing of the service. You have small, but nice wine list! Thanks!
Note we were passing through the area at the time but made a reservation. The meal, the service, and the atmosphere were outstanding. Every ingredient down to the garnish was fresh. Day fresh. Staff were wonderful, and the atmosphere was welcoming. However, the sun in the evening was quite bright, they came prepared with window shades however and this alleviated the sunlight. Very nice, pricey, but nice. Please note this is a nice establishment, you will want to have attire that is more on the formal side. And make sure to have a reservation just to be on the safe side.
Another work trip and another night dining out. Have stopped here in the past and always great experience. Server was super friendly and knew the menu well. Ordered the fried green tomatoes based off her recommendation and was not disappointed. Tomatoes were cooked perfectly and the sauce was great compliment. I then ordered the fried chicken for dinner and was very disappointed. Chicken lacked seasoning and bottom piece of chicken was burnt on underside. Dish just did not come together well... the seasonal ice cream was a treat. Would definitely stop back again as every has an off night.
Nice restaurant with a good selection of cocktails. All of the food items I've tried have been good. It is on the pricier side for what you're getting, you pay for the ambiance. There is not a dress code, but I see many people dressing up to eat there, but also lots of casually dressed diners. There's lots of seating inside and out to accommodate different group sizes, and a large on site parking lot. Staff is always very nice and helpful.
We like to stop here when traveling between Oklahoma and our current home state of Maine a couple times per year. It Our meals here have usually been excellent, but don’t get the Fish and Chips. Fish was not flaky, and the batter was soggy on the bottom. I expected better given the owner’s connection to Maine! Pizza, steak Montana, bread, sides, desserts all excellent.
The food is always very good, interesting, well prepared, and varied. The ambiance is special, with seating possibilities including the porches in good weather and the enclosed porch overlooking the pond in addition to the main dining room. The service is usually excellent yet this evening it was quite annoying. The waiter insisted on treating us like we were in kindergarten using phrases such as "how is our meal", "what would we like for dinner tonight", "can I bring us anything else". I had to bite my tongue. It became so annoying. There is also a 5% service charge, which we've not noticed in the past, which the Restaurant can remove if we don't want to pay it. Sort of felt shamed into paying it. And lastly, when I was here in October, and it was very cold, I spoke directly with the manager and asked that perhaps they consider adding coat hooks outside the bathroom stalls in the ladies room so that when women exit the stalls, they have a place to hang their coat. Brilliant idea he said. Two months later, nothing has changed. Still trying to figure out where to hang my purse and my coat when I'm washing my hands. Sadly, after five years of stopping here on our way to and from Southern states, we may simply pass. The irritants are increasing.
Very esthetically please place with a great atmosphere. I am a vegetarian and when I saw the option for the Chefs Veggie Entree I was interested. I called and spoke to the hostess. She ended up reading the description to me from the menu which says something about catering to allergies and aversions and to let the server know and the chef will create a dish just for you. I wanted to know what the dish would entail. She put me on hold, came back and told me it would be a veggie board with fresh veggies from the garden. Awesome so excited that the restaurant has a garden it uses. But I was confused, I asked but if it’s a veggie board why is it being called an entree? And she said the board was the entree, I said so I get raw veggies? Then she said they can cook them however I like, but now I’m just co fused because I would assume there is some go to dish that is made and can be tailored easily to ppl with allergies etc. so I ask what my options are and she said the veggie board, I asked if there was any protein with it (as I am hungry and paying 24$ for veggies is not okay) and she proceeds to put me on hold to ask a server. Spoke to a server they said the dish was stir fried veggies with summer squash, zucchini, Brussels served with potatoes or rice. I said okay sound good but do you have any plant based protein? And he said no. I said no lentils or beans? And he then said actually yes we have lentils that we serve with another dish we can add those. Yes, yes please I would like protein with my meal. So I placed the order for pick up, and paid over the phone. I waited in the outdoor space while it was being made. Grabbed my dish and headed back to the hotel. The dish smelled good, but sadly it was only okay. I don’t know how it was seasoned but it was way too much sauce, almost like a soy teriyaki sauce, the rice was soaked in it, no summer squash and no zucchini. I couldn’t even eat the whole dish because the flavor is overwhelming. Basically I am happy the menu offers a vegetarian option but disappointed that no thought from the chefs go into planning a balanced vegetarian dinner meal (carbs, veggies and protein). And I am also sad that I can’t eat my dinner… this is why traveling sucks… I basically have to eat like trash the whole time because everyone thinks vegetarians only want veggies and carbs….
Thought this might be a good place to eat since it says "Farm to Table". We weren't very hungry so we ordered a pizza. The crust was soggy in the middle but the outside edge was pretty good. Sausage chunks needed to be broken down smaller and spaced out better and the pepperoni just fell off like it was an afterthought. No one should complain about too much cheese, but when it make a soupy mess maybe a little too much. Noticed some raised bed out back and a greenhouse on the property. So it like a good concept is in the making. So we've been there done that. I might return if someone offers to buy me a steak someday.
The one star is for the very instagram attractive decor, construction and features like the rustic yet modern entry, sprawling bar, charming pond with koi. They lost 4 stars on service and mainly the highlight of this place which is farm to table flair. Service was a slow as the place was not busy. Tables that arrived after us were served before us. We were recommend the fried green tomatoes. Typically these can't be messed up. There was so much breading I couldn't discern the tomatoes from the heavy layer of vegetables topping the dish. I understand they were trying to steer off the classic but this was too far off. Overly salted and the excessive sauces masked the flavors of the farm to table fresh veggies. Green tomato disappeared. Not good overall.Similar to I imagine something like you'd get in lower quality chili's type places. I was told that the foccacia for the muffletta would be the best I ever had. It was absolutely not. Not pillowy at all. On the heavy side and covered in oil. Seemed to be rubbery like it was microwaved. Meats may have been good quality if I could get past the oil and salt in the focaccia. Muffletta is typically not on this type of bread anyway. Even the fresh arugula was dressed in a very salty dressing. Again I could not enjoy this dish because of the salt. Also tasted my husband's Philly which was the saltiest of all. Why!!?? Farm to table doesn't need to be covered in excessive salt!! The apricot Agua fresca was terrible. Sour and flavorless. Very underwhelming, salty and uninteresting food not to mention the price for the portion was just paying for the insta surroundings. Extra 5% fees for no reason at all. Food seems to be an afterthought. Go if you like cute surroundings and small salty dishes with fancy descriptions--but the food had zero farm to table qualities. Nothing tasted farm fresh. Skip it and save your $$$ for local bbq or pack your own road trip lunch instead.
Went today at this place and very disappointed 😔. The server said it was one of their special today chef just went back from Korea and they offered Korean pork chop . Picture looks good at first and big but went you cut it it's all fat.... 🤮 I have never seen a pork chop that has covered a lot of fat in it. The pork is pink not well done??!! Said something to the server and they said I will not get sick 🤢 from it, ok but you can't have the pork chop not well done. It was disgusting truly is. I hope they would not include this to their menu in the future. We don't mind driving far and pay more just to have good food but pls. Make it right!
