I enjoy bringing my family to Swami's Cafe for its good food, service, and outdoor atmosphere. Bring the pup too. Always a good experience!
There are several locations in the area including one in Oceanside where we were staying. However, we wanted to go to the original one on the 101. It is a quaint, typical SoCal beach town restaurant. They have some indoor seating, lots of seating outside in front of property, and some outdoor side seating. The side area is the one we sat at. It was overcast, a bit windy and cool, but this worked great for us. My husband and I opted for two of their Specials. I had the Lobster Eggs Benedict; he had the Hanna Banana Peanut Butter Oatmeal. My choice was delicious. The eggs were perfectly done. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and flavorful. The lobster tasted very fresh and not a bit tough. The real winner here was the Oatmeal. There was about two spoons of peanut butter in the middle of the oatmeal. It also included sliced bananas, sliced apples, and walnuts. The combination of all, was fantastic. I had a little taste because my husband wouldn't share more than that. For the record I kept offering my breakfast to him. He took a bite of mine and liked it; but he adamantly expressed the Oatmeal was exceptional and was very glad he got it. A local very nice lady was having the oatmeal as well near our table. She said that this is all she's ever had at Swami's and orders it every weekend. They also have a great selection of self serve coffees. We tried the blueberry coffee thinking we wouldn't like it and could get something else. It turned out it was smooth, not too sweet,. simply delicious. We will definitely return next time we are in the area. Might try the one in Oceanside. Other reviews indicate that the food is pretty consistent for all locations. But this location is so unique odds are we'll be back to the 101 one.
Great food and wonderful service by Luis! All of us enjoyed our lunch and being treated so well and I was thrilled that they had lots of vegetarian options including soy chorizo. Great job Luis and team!
I visited this place with a group of 15 women. They served us a pre-ordered meal of salad and wraps. Excellent food. Great service. Seating was a little tight but not bad. Would eat here again!
Great breakfast spot that was able to serve us quickly and without fuss. I ordered a denver omelette and multigrain pancake, both of which were perfect (tip: order the real maple syrup to along with your pancakes!). Our table also ordered the chorizo hash, kids pancakes, and chicken quesadilla. Everybody was happy as a clam. Do not think twice about stopping here!
This is reason one of my favorite breakfast spots in Southern California. The food is always delicious and fresh and the service is always on point. They have a great selection of freshly brewed coffees for you to choose from and the location is fantastic. Just across the street is the meditation garden. Why not stop in for a quick bite to eat and then after take a stroll through the garden to clear your mind? Best experience!
I’ve been coming to Swami‘s for about two decades since I was in high school and it’s always consistently really good. It’s right on beautiful PCH right across from the self-realization center and just above the ocean cliffs. The location truly is one of my favorite parts of coming here. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you so it’s not a traditional full service breakfast restaurant but that just means the tables turn quicker and the wait times are never too long. It does get especially crowded on summer days, especially when the beach is popular so that something to be aware of. They have a small parking lot next-door, but there is also free street and neighborhood parking close by. For this visit, I chose the El Paso Benedict and really liked it. It’s basically traditional a Benedict, but with chorizo and avocado, which is a great combination for me. One of the things I also love about this place is that you choose what sort of coffee you want from about 10 different options. I chose three different ones while I was there because it is self-serve I was able to make it just how I like. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area or especially to anyone visiting San Diego.
This is the original and also the very best Swami’s location. I have been coming here for two decades at least it feels like and the quality and atmosphere have been the same. Amazing! Can’t say enough good things about this location. We live in Vista and have our own swami’s, but being at the this location hits different. The vibes are so good here.
Loved the food and the beach vibes at this restaurant. The chilaquiles were fantastic, as was the veggie omelette. Hearty portions too so enough leftover for a second meal. A large selection of coffees, including organic options, and plenty of outside seating. We’ll definitely be back!
Since 2005, Jaime has operated this iconic beachy Hwy 101 Swami's Cafe, embodying the relaxed surfer pace and mentality, and serving up an extensive menu, from smoothies to burgers, and everything in between. Drop in for a quick bite indoors or relax with your friends for hours on the outdoor patio while enjoying classic tunes! While this place encourages a convenient self serve mentality, Celyn, Moonbeam I liken her to, offers friendly service with a great 70s vibe! The blueberry pancake, perfectly executed plate of fluffiness with bursting blueberries, hit the spot...I ate it all. Looking forward to coming back to sample the shakes, wraps and smoothies. Cheers! What a fun restaurant with a cool vibe! It feels like a fun hangout spot for all the hottest surfers in California! Staff are all young and energetic. It has got some cool decorations throughout the restaurant. Came on a week day so no wait for us. Huge portion!!!! I ordered an ahi tuna salad and it came with two toasts. The balsamic sauce on top of the tuna was on point. Clam chowder soup was very delicious! The menu was pretty overwhelming. I will definitely come back and try something else.
Some people complain that this place is not funky enough. It's plenty funky for me! I'd like the menu choices and the quantity and quality of the food. Specially love eating outdoors under the shelter by the banana leand palm trees. We ordered the green omelette, and Belgian waffles - good healthy food!
Headed home from LA, looking for a late brunch, we found ourselves walking into Swami’s Cafe for the 1st time, (we’ve lived in San Diego 5 years). I can’t believe it took this long after hearing all the positive reviews and learning about this staple in San Diego. I ordered the special, Lobster Benedict and a coffee. Of which, I was confronted with about 7 different options! I chose the medium roast before immediately spotting my ideal spot to enjoy my meal. I had enough time to drink my coffee in their well lit patio, surrounded by plants and a beautiful water feature, It was peaceful and happy. My food was promptly served and was absolutely delicious. A perfect brunch on a late Sunday evening.
Stopped by for breakfast in our way to Ensenada. Great breakfast selection. We had the following: Lobster Benedict: amazing Eggs Benedict: delightful. California omelette (watch out for jalepenos). Add a good spice but my mother in law who does not enjoy anything spicy was Afraid to have another bite. Burrito: delicious Waffles Benedict: delicious Side choice of fruit, or potatoes I had a cold brew and my wife and mother in law had the coffee. There was a great selection of various types of coffee. We will definitely stop by again!
This location definitely needs to work on the quality of cooking their food. I usually go to the Carlsbad location and they have phenomenal food every single time. Here at Encinitas, I gave it a second try and the food was still mediocre. My french toast came out premade from the early morning. It was not fresh or soft like hot french toast is usually off the grill. More like cold and dried out from being under a heat lamp. Then they forgot my potatoes and bacon, after a reminder it came out pipping hot which was good news. The people sitting across from us didnt even touch their food and just left. Both times I've eaten here were during the weekdays. Sadly I won't be coming back to this location until they hire more kitchen staff or improve their cooking.
Overall, this place is okay. My friend really likes it, but it's not my favorite. The food is really low quality for my tastes. I think nothing on their menu is really great, and they charge a lot for their dishes. I would honestly say if you want better food for the buck, check out Nectarine Grove or Lotus Cafe down the road. The staff is nice though.
I would personally rate this place a 2 or 3, but my friends really like their hot dogs, so I’ll give a 4 for the food overall. Starting with the service, it was very poor. They didn’t have any coffee available because the espresso machine was broken, so I couldn’t get what I came for. When I asked for chai tea, I was told it was the last packet they had. I ordered waffles, which were served plain with just a few strawberries. It didn’t feel worth the price, and the taste was just okay — I only ate half. On the other hand, my friend really enjoyed his hamburger and said it was one of the best he’s had.
While they have a great variety of breakfast options most of the food is mediocre. The seared ahi wrap tasted like one of the ingredients had mold, even though the blue cheese wasn't on the ingredient list :) lobster egg Benedicts were not great as well, seafood tasted like a canned version that spent a few years in the storage. Pineapple pancakes were great, the only food item I would recommend! Also love the chill vibe of the place.
I ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon, and unfortunately, it was a big letdown. The food arrived cold, the English muffins were extremely dry, and the portion was small except for the overwhelming amount of bacon, which threw off the entire flavor. The potatoes were cut too large, undercooked, and lacked seasoning. My husband did enjoy his burger, but even his potatoes were undercooked and disappointing. How do you mess up something as simple as potatoes? I’m giving two stars only because of the burger.
