This is a bright and cheerful breakfast place. You know their food is fresh because call the early morning working people are coming here to get their breakfast and lunch items-- it's surrounded by police, fdny and industrial spaces, so it's filled with workers who want good food at good prices. The mangu is delicious, I can do mangu with egg and onion, sometimes cheese, while I'm sure the tres golpes is amazing I just cannot manage salami fried in addition to the rest. The sandwich they whipped up for me is pictured here, my "egg alternative" breakfast sandwich is cheese on a roll with the marinated onions. It was perfect. Bonus: serve your own coffee. Truly a dying tradition in NYC, but this is the old school give them cash and walk over and grab your cup of coffee and go. Even the decaf orange has caffeine in it because these owners know their customers need it!
Service is good and you can see everything being prepared in the kitchen. A+ Their breakfast is good. Edited 4/3/2023 I tried their Cubano for lunch. Loved it! Give it a try, recommended.
This place was great. Stopped here in between work meetings and bought the steak sandwich. The people working were really friendly and the food was excellent. Not expensive at all. I will be back
Best cubano I’ve had in a while , staff was amazing, very welcoming , cafe it self feels at home. This cafe blew my mind , i highly recommend stopping by Mela’s
Good experience overall, they have some healthy options on the menu. Friendly staff and decent prices, you can dine in using the long table along the windows but no chairs at the moment.

One of the best mom and pop Café I've been to. They cook with love and passion and the food is amazing. This is honestly a hidden gem in the Bronx that I will be going to many more times.

Went there for the first time yesterday and I ordered the Cuban Panini. It was fantastic! Hot, moist and juicy. The pork was so tasty, the pickle gave it some great crunch and the bread was excellent. The ladies there are very proud of what they cooked. When we got there, one of the ladies took the time to show us everything that was just cooked in the steam buffet. My buddy, got the Italian sub and he also loved it. Definitely worth checking out, its a hidden gem in the Bronx!
Came here 2 yrs ago for work in the area. Stopped in at Mela's, people are SUPER NICE and food is delicious! That's why I stopped in again today 9/18/18. Will be back all week! Yumm! 10/25/18 Came back to the area for work...stopped by all week! Today I had the pork stuffed with apple, rice, beans and I was reminded to have my veggies (green beans)!! DELICIOUS!!! I wish I could take all 3 ladies that work there back to Chicago w me! I don't have to go into work tomorrow but I'm thinking of crossing the GW bridge just to have bfast there!

Melas is home cuisine and very mild flavor prepared foods, and that’s a good thing nothing is overwhelming in flavor, very delicated with the garlic and is very important to have a nice clean finish like their food.
