5 stars for the food, absolutely incredible. 5 stars for the waitstaff. Very knowledgeable about the entire menu 3 stars on the atmosphere. I learned about being able to pay even more money than what food and drinks cost to get the “best” views of the city. We were there for our anniversary and were seated right around the corner from the hostess stand. ALL the traffic from the restaurant passed our table and some were so loud we had to stop our conversation to wait for the loud drunk people to get on the elevator and leave. If you read this and want to see the city without pillars in your way, pay the extra for a better table

My wife and I had an incredible evening at MDRD. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt special. We paid in advance for a better table and it was 100% worth it, the view, the atmosphere, everything set the tone for a great night. The service truly made the experience though. Brandon, our server, was absolutely fantastic. He took the time to get to know what we liked, helped us pick the perfect drink from the bar, and nailed every recommendation. We trusted the process and were rewarded, the octopus (Pulpo-spanish menu with English description) was outstanding, easily one of the best dishes we had all night. The bar program deserves a shout-out too. They customized our drinks, and the Godfather (modified) was next-level. Thoughtful, balanced, and clearly crafted by people who know what they’re doing. Amazing service, great food, and a memorable experience all around. MDRD absolutely lives up to the hype. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion. I may also use it to entertain my clients as it's very well done. We’ll definitely be back!

We had an amazing experience at MDRD. The food is well worth the $$$. Brenna, our waitress, was amazing! She was so sweet and very knowledgeable. She had the best recommendations. The extra money for the nice table is so worth it too.

We had a lovely first visit. It was as expected after hearing nothing but high praise since they first opened their doors. We planned a birthday celebration, noted on our OpenTable reservation and received well wishes all throughout our service. We were seated in a private space overlooking the city and were treated with respect and welcome! The food is all top notch quality and flavor and preparation and presentation! All of these details made our first visit an outstanding memory, especially for a milestone birthday of a deserving family member! Our service was wonderful and pleasant and easy going. We appreciated being treated to a high-end experience with a comfortable approach. (We were sure to wear the appropriate business/casual specified on our reservation confirmation but did notice on our way out that other patrons wore more casual attire. I applaud the openness but always like to know how to feel most suitable. Overall, we were definitely glad to not be surprised when we arrived and felt our occasion warranted a dressier vibe.)

An unforgettable dining experience! From the moment we walked in, everything at MDRD felt special—elegant ambiance, stunning city views, and impeccable service. The food was outstanding—every dish beautifully presented and bursting with bold, creative flavors. And the dessert? Absolutely divine. It’s the kind of place where the entire evening feels like a celebration. Can’t wait to return!

MDRD was AMAZING. Absolutely phenomenal service, they were willing to go out of their way to accommodate our needs and made sure our party had a wonderful evening and experience. Amazing food as well. 10/10, I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting Grand Rapids

This place has some of the best views in Grand Rapids. The food was exquisite and the service matched. 10/10 will be back.

One of my favorite restaurants to celebrate a special occasion. Food, service, and views are always great. Menu changes often though. I am sad they got rid of their beef tartar tapas and dry age ribeye steak entree. This time around we ordered the pork belly tapa, patatas bravas tapa, octopus tapa, waygu steak entree, and pork chop entree. It was a lot of food for two people so we had leftovers.

This was the most relaxing and enjoyable evening! Wonderful view and a beautiful sunset. Our server was so friendly and very helpful with food descriptions and suggestions. Presentation of each course was so creative! Can nost wait to return!

Was cautious coming from the Charleston Sc food Scene...Had the pleasure to have Kelly as our server. She made sure the evening was perfect. Thank you. couldn't recommend her or MDR more.

Best views in Grand Rapids. I absolutely loved this very chic restaurant. The flamenco reserva drink was so refreshing. The food presentation was a surprise. Very beautiful and explosion of flavors in your mouth. We really enjoyed the appetizers, we ordered the wild boar empanadas very tasty. We absolutely loved the spiced ginger carrots. So flavorful with a hint of spicy in it. The pepino salad was a nice surprise if you love pickled foods. The only reason I gave a 4 rating was because the Wagyu steak lacked flavor. The limon dessert Wowww what a fun experience! so delicious!!! Overall we had an amazing experience and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Very romantic. Our reservation was at 7:00 p.m. so the Sun was shining very strong on our table. They do have shades if needed. Our waiter Jeff was so knowledgeable. He explained every single entree with every detail. He did a great job. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. We ordered a nice bottle of tempranillo overall our bill was not a shocker. About $300 for the spanish amazing experience. Worth every penny.

It's a really amazing place. I took my wife here for our anniversary and our server Brandon was amazing. The food was delicious, and we were both ready to explode from how full we were. They had our table ready and it even had a very nice hand made sign that said happy anniversary. Amazing place.

I love dining at restaurants with a view, and this one truly has the best in Grand Rapids. Ooh la la to the sunsets. The food is consistently delicious, but I've noticed the portions have been shrinking with each visit. The patatas bravas, which used to arrive as an impressive tower, are now just small cubes—not quite the same experience. My favorites are definitely the chicken and the steak—both are always flavorful and well-prepared. I do wish the dessert menu included a more decadent chocolate option. Pouring hot chocolate over a chocolate bomb would be an incredible addition! Also, a special shoutout to Brandon—he’s the absolute best server. Friendly, attentive, and always makes our visits more enjoyable.

awesome atmosphere forgot to write review, but the waiter we had on march 21st around 10pm was amazing. He was a great guy super attentive and kind. the food was amazing as well. a lot of variety for drinks and desserts as well

Modern vibe, fantastic atmosphere, and perfect service! Me an my boyfriend ordered 4 tapas, 2 entrees, 2 deserts, and 2 cocktails. I am satisfied with most of them. Lamb is a highlight! Prawns are tender and rich. Love both deserts! Others are all good except the octopus. The octopus was overcooked. It tasted like charcoal, dry and bitter, really hope they can fix it. Also, the price is fair. It was about $240 for all these foods, but it was too much for 2 people. Both of us too full to walk to parking lot.

First time visitors. We decided to celebrate our anniversary here at MDRD and we don’t regret it. We were welcomed right away upon arrival and led to our table which had a beautiful view and a sweet anniversary card on the table for us. Anna V. was our waitress and was extremely attentive throughout our time dining. My wife and I decided on indulging in a few of their tapa option (Empanadas, Pork belly and Patatas). Pork belly is a must have item, the cabbage and sofrito on the plate was a great combo. Our main dish was the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and paired nicely with my solera aged coctel. El limon dessert was so incredibly good which was plated on thoughtful dish which said Happy Anniversary. Overall, MDRD is a perfect romantic getaway for couples to enjoy a nice meal together with a great view of the city.

Had a great time here. We ordered several tapas for dinner along with cocktails and dessert. Our server was wonderful. She never seemed rushed and was patient, explained the menu and dishes and always made sure to check in on us. Everything we tried was delicious. Great view!

We celebrated our anniversary here and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We were greeted professionally and seated promptly. Our waitress was wonderful—she took the time to explain the menu in detail and was very accommodating throughout the evening. We started with a bottle of wine and Brussels sprouts, followed by scallops and filet for our main courses. We finished with a delightful chestnut dessert. The total came to $219 before tip, but it was well worth it for the exceptional experience.

Absolutely exceptional is how I would describe MDRD. The service and hospitality is top notch, no detail overlooked. The food and flavors are exquisite and the cocktails are awesome. I have dined here a few times and have never been disappointed. The views of the city and sunset from MDRD is a bonus when dining at the top of Grand Rapids.

Best restaurant with a stunning GR view! The food is absolutely amazing with excellent presentation and service. You can tell the chefs really care about their menu and ingredients. There is a lot of thought and love put into the menu and drinks. The cocktails are amazing and easy to sub out for different liquors. Really enjoyed the atmosphere too, a little more upscale of a place but approachable. Highly recommend!

Best views in the city. Not a bad seat in the house. Spanish food with a fusion flair. Kind and attentive staff. Very avant garde food with a unique blend of vegetables sauces and fresh herbs. A slow enjoyable experience. Tapas were great.

I can't rave enough about this place! We sat at the bar for dinner. We drove 2 hours on a whim to enjoy Grand Rapids for a day and boy did it not disappoint. The place is stunning, the atmosphere combined with the music just oozes a sexy vibe. The food was delicious, course after course had us wanting more. My boyfriend who is less adventurous at times with his pallette loved all our choices. The octopus was perfectly grilled. The meatballs were full of flavor and the sauce was amazing. My favorite was the oxtail empanada with mustard caviar. We will definitely be back and with friends to enjoy more of what this place has to offer!

This was an absolutely amazing dining experience. The food was elegant and delicious all while having amazing views of downtown GR. It's definitely a higher priced eatery but it was worth every bit of the price! Our appetizer was the potato omelet which was a beautiful thick layered cut of "pie" which was amazing. Our main course was the scallops and the rare Spain style pork that was out of this world. To our lemon custard dessert with lemon caviar which is just lemon zest balls was the perfect finish to our birthday dinner. The food was so good, we caught ourselves eating it as slowly as we could. We are trying to justify more events to celebrate and go here. This again, is worth the money to go here! I highly recommend it!!!! You can get in without a reservation, but it seems like it's only the bar seating and you might have to get there the minute they open. They also give a discount to park valet at the hotel. So I believe our parking may have cost around $6.

Tremendous experience. We booked at MDRD to celebrate our birthdays together. The service was fantastic - Tanya was especially attentive, helpful with describing the menu and wine selections. Food was fantastic, we got two tapas dishes and two entrees. Everything was great, some highlights were the beef tenderloins, potato fingerlings, and sweet potato purée. The strawberry rhubarb dessert was wonderful - perfect balance of sweetness. We walked out at about $130 per person and still felt like we got tremendous value. This will be a new go-to place for special occasions.

Absolutely the best restaurant experience we have ever had. Octopus was amazing. Dessert was fantastic. But what really made the evening was the staff. In particular, the manager, who's name I forget now. He took the time to tell us about how the restaurant came to be, describing how he watched Grand Rapids turn into this mecca for foodies. When we wandered upstairs we ran into him again and he showed us the private dining areas. I also loved all of the extra little touches: the olives before dinner, the decorations on the drinks, the GOLD on the chocolate leaf, and the post dinner lime chocolates. ♥️ If we ever find ourselves in Grand Rapids again, we will definitely be back! p.s make your reservation early

We went on a Saturday night, and despite it being busy, it was a wonderful experience. It was our second time coming, but our first time coming at night, and the view was just as beautiful by night as it is by day. Food was phenomenal, dessert was amazing. Highly recommend the espresso martinis!

A rating of five stars is insufficient for this dining experience! Higher ratings should be available for establishments such as this! My husband and I had our first dining experience here for my birthday, after the recommendation of a friend. Parking validation for half of the parking fee is available conveniently across the street. The views from any table in the restaurant are breathtaking. Our taste buds were set alight with the main courses that we ordered. I had the lobster paella and he had the filet a la plancha. Both brought exquisite high def flavors to our taste buds! We completed the experience with the limon dessert, and I am still left puzzled as to how they worked such culinary magic with that creation! We are so fortunate to live in a town with such a world class restaurant at our fingertips!

This was my second time visiting this amazing restaurant. The food was excellent, especially the steak, it was tender and flavorful. The place itself is beautiful, great spot even just for a drink. The views are absolutely stunning.

Oh my goodness this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in Michigan in my 37 years of life! Hubby and I went to celebrate our anniversary, so we made a reservation. We were greeted by the kindest staff, and our server, Faith, was so wonderful and helpful! She knew the menu and drinks inside and out and gave only the best recommendations. The atmosphere was great too - 27th floor with a beautiful view of the city and the river. Coming at night for sunset would be stellar! We ordered several tapas and one main, and all were shareable for 2 people if you just want a taste of each item: Ensalada de Pepino - super light and refreshing little vegetable kick to start us off. Pan con Tomate - definitely add the boquerones AND the jamón! So tasty! Croquetas de Jamòn - if you get nothing else on the menu, try these! So flavorful (and filling). The aioli they serve it over is the die for! Salmòn con Trufa - if you love smoked salmon like I do, this is a must! The cream filled pastry alone was amazing, and the salmon was perfectly smoked. Chuleta Iberíco - sadly, I think is not staying on the menu permanently, but it was the best pork chop I have ever had in my life. And it was perfectly cooked inside while being just the right amount of crunchy on the outside. If you can get this cut, do it! The Clavel Rojo - my hubby got this drink and said it was one of the most unique and amazing drinks he’s ever had. He loved the chocolate on top and how it enhanced the flavors of the drink so well. El Limón - I don’t even know how to describe how delicious this dessert was. So many layers of goodness. Tart and sweet and tangy and creamy all at the same time. If you love lemon, you’ll probably love this. All the food was amazing. I cannot get over how great our whole dining experience was. Highly recommend splurging for an evening here (yes it’s expensive, but yes it is so worth it)!

MDRD is the type of restaurant that you feel special at. The service is top notch, the views are legendary and the food is exquisite. I’ve dined here twice and both times the food has been incredible. The servers know the food and help walk you through the menu and what might be best. If you’re looking for the perfect date night or special occasion restaurant, this is the place to go.

Breonna, the hostess seriously was the absolute best. She made my time here wonderful from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. She made sure I had the best seat and while I was celebrating a wonderful night with my best friend and asked her to be my maid of honor!!! She took pictures of us and made us feel special. Drinks and food were great and the atmosphere here was 10/10. I felt like I was in a snow globe.

Wonderful food and service from Jeff. Enjoyed our Valentine’s Day at MDRD. Would love to come back. The tapas were amazing and had a great pork chop and paella pasta.

Took wife for birthday dinner. Every single aspect was fantastic. The food was amazing. Her drinks were great. The view of the Grand River was beautiful. Paid the $50 for the La Buena Vista experience. It was worth it. We can’t recommend it highly enough.

What a great experience. Delicious cocktails, wonderful food, and fantastic service. I don’t think you can go wrong here no matter what you order. On top of all that is the wonderful views of the city. Only thing is view is not standard. Not that you can’t see it but the majority of the restaurant is interior. So don’t go ok with the expectation all the tables are against the windows. Not a draw back or distraction from the overall ambiance. Just an observation. Definitely one of the best fine dining experiences in GR

This restaurant has a modern Spanish flair with incredible views of the city—especially at sunset. The atmosphere and decor were stunning, and the presentation of each dish was truly impressive. The food was good, but the flavors were a bit overwhelming for my taste—I think I just didn’t fully understand what “modern Spanish” meant going in. We came back later for dessert, which was equally creative (and a bit unusual). All the cocktails are Spanish-inspired, and while my first-ever espresso martini wasn’t for me, I’m sure others would enjoy it. Overall, I’d recommend trying it for the experience, but I probably wouldn’t go back myself.

Quite the dining experience in Grand Rapids. The view was incredible - and the restaurant is designed to give almost every seat a view (very impressive!) Tapas style dishes were extremely flavorful. Perhaps not fully authentic but not in a bad way - their twist on Spanish food is quite a good take. Drinks were fantastic as well. Definitely will go back - albeit likely for a special occasion.

Let me start with parking. Parking is conveniently right across from the Amway and they reimburse you for the parking fee so that’s nice. I’ve been to this restaurant a few times and my favorites are the share plates. They are all pretty amazing but I can’t believe how delicious the peppers are. These are hands down my favorite appetizer. You will be surprised at how amazing these are so just trust me and order them!!! The main course items are good too but the share plates are just more flavorful and exciting to me. The desserts are also amazing. I recommend the lemon one. It’s truly unique and the layers of flavor within it are just amazing. I can eat that everyday! This place is on the pricier side but still worth it for any special night.

Beyond Excellent service and great tasting food! We went here a couple Friday’s ago. Our cocktails took some time so our server (Max, I believe) brought us some sparkling wine in the meantime. The chef is very creative, especially on the desserts and drinks will have you ordering another round. Would be 5 stars except a friends dish was a little over salted. My steak was perfect and the pastry appetizer was awesome!

My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation online and requested a window seat, which was nicely arranged for us. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was very enjoyable. The only area that could be improved was the service — it was fine, but not quite as attentive as we had hoped. Overall, a pleasant dining experience and a good choice for a special occasion.

Great Atmosphere, Drinks, and Service — Food Was Hit or Miss I want to start by saying that nearly everything about the restaurant was excellent — the atmosphere, the service, the location, and especially the drinks, which were spot on. We were seated at a decent-sized table and really enjoyed the overall vibe of the place. Now for the part that mattered most: the food. It was honestly hit or miss. Some dishes were absolutely amazing and really stood out — truly impressive. But others, unfortunately, fell flat. For example, the $70 steak and $50 pork chop were major disappointments. The octopus also missed the mark. I watched more than one steak or chop go half-eaten into to-go boxes, with people joking about turning them into sandwiches just to make use of them. There were comments about the lack of flavor, and it just didn’t live up to the price or expectations. For example, nthe next day, we ended up grabbing $5 tacos, and those were a bigger hit with the group. People were laughing about how much more flavor they got out of a basic taco than the cold, flavorless steak from the night before. That said, I will try the restaurant again. There was enough good to make me believe it could have just been an off night for the kitchen, however, based on this first visit, the food was the weakest part of an otherwise excellent experience

We recently dined at MDRD in Grand Rapids and had mixed feelings. The entire staff was genuinely friendly and pleasant, but the attentiveness was very lacking. It took about 15 minutes before we were even greeted by a server, and another 15 minutes after ordering before our drinks arrived, which immediately set a slow tone for the evening. We ordered the beet salad, octopus, ceviche, salmon puffs with caviar, mussels, and potatoes. The salmon puffs, ceviche, and potatoes were all very good and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the octopus and mussels really missed the mark. The octopus was extremely fishy and very chewy, and the mussels were also overly fishy, served lukewarm, and came with a sauce that was surprisingly bland and lacking depth. This was disappointing, especially coming from a restaurant that positions itself at this price point. The cocktails were well made, and the lemon mousse dessert was a highlight. The interior of MDRD is absolutely stunning and is honestly one of the biggest selling points — the atmosphere is beautiful and upscale. That said, for a $200 dinner, we were pretty underwhelmed by both the food quality and the overall service experience. One additional issue was that my water glass had a strange odor, to the point where I couldn’t drink from it. While everyone we interacted with was kind and professional, we simply didn’t see our servers often enough to feel properly taken care of. With better service and more consistent food execution, this place could be great — but for the price, it fell short for us. EDIT: We reached out to the MDRD team after their response to the review and never heard back.

The atmosphere and service was great, however the charcuterie board was not. The cheese squares were as hard as a rock (literally) so you couldn’t bite into them. The paella also came out in a pan and the food was burned from the sides to the bottom of the pan. Overall the food was bland and not worth $100+ aside from being old and burnt. 10/10 dessert at MDRD though

The view is spectacular, the service is superb. The food… is … underwhelming at best… everything tasted like it had one ingredient missing, or one that was overpowering and unnecessary. Drinks were even less impressive than the food… you are definitely paying for the ambiance… but there are much better food and drink options in the city in the same price range, or less, than what MDRD is currently offering.

We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The ambience of the place was really good. The service and presentation of the food were satisfactory. But the food was missing the flavour. We had Patatas Bravas and Iberico pork Belly for starters. Patatas Bravas was just fancy french fries that missed the mark. Pork Belly was decent. For the Main course, we had Chuletas De Codero(Lamb Chops) and Lomo De Wagyu. Wagyu was decent Lamb Chops were really bland. For the dessert, we had El Limon and Arbol De Frambuesa, and both were pretty good. Especially, the presentation. Drinks were absolutely fire. Overall, it was a let down for the price we paid and expectations we had.

Views are fantastic. We made a bday dinner reservation for a nice table and were offered the high table right in front of the rest room, squished under the stairs at the entrance, next to an overly loud playing musician. Alternatively, the table right across. After 3 attempts, we were finally accommodated in the main dining area which we appreciated. Hostess seemed snobby. Service was good, also it felt "automated" and not warm. We dined here before but found the food to be more up-to-par with prices then. Pulpo sauce had a strange taste. Lamb chops had a good amount of fat and were served on plain, flavorless, dry chickpeas. The Mejillones were as to be expected. Empanandas were just okay. A non-alcoholic drink at $15 with 2/3 filled with ice seemed inadequate. Overall, it felt overpriced.

I went for my birthday. Had a terrible time. First off the restaurant is on the other side of the parking garage so if you’re like me and wearing new heels, you’re going to want to throw them off by the time you get there. The restaurant itself is a vibe, great view of downtown GR. Service was terrible from the start, I wouldn’t have taken too much offense to that but the table next to me, which had the same server got great service. And the food was overpriced and mid af. I had the oxtail empanadas and for the price of oxtails and the way that tasted, y’all could’ve let that ox live. I ordered a few other tapas and nothing was amazing. Also a mocktail that 75% ice was $15. Which was the same price as a cocktail with actual liquor in it. Save your money and go to Ruth’s Chris which is in the same hotel

We went to MDRD for a nice date night. Service was actually spot-on: our server was friendly. Drinks were solid, presentation 10/10, and the atmosphere was 10/10. Unfortunately, the raw/undercooked lamb chop we ordered (a signature dish) gave both of us severe food poisoning. I can’t in good conscience give more than one star when the food literally made us sick. The lamb chop was the only thing we both ate that could explain the shared illness, and it was clearly not cooked to a safe temperature. Everything else about MDRD was top-tier—service, drinks, views, vibe—but food safety is non-negotiable.

Made the reservation three weeks ahead for a birthday celebration. Got seated in a corner on a high top table by a wine fridge and the bathrooms! Restaurant staff kept on walking by to get to the wine fridge… The waiter was polite and knowledgeable but made us listen to the detailed description of the entire menu! Never asked for that and not at all pleasant. It took what seemed like 10 minutes! Really felt as if the waiter was promoting/selling more than attending/serving! And then a long wait to finally get food. Food was carefully presented but the taste was only mediocre. Overall a poor experience.
