More room in the bar area! Hadn't been in awhile, great addition. As always the food is excellent. The BBQ is delicious. Great side choices too! Haven't been when they have music but I understand it's tons of fun!! Edit: Attended Christmas Tree Lighting in the Yard with Madison Central School chorus, and of course the Big Man himself....Santa❣ And donated to Toys for Tots. Had another great dinner with a bunch of wound up kids!! Happy Holidays 🌲🎅🤶⛄❄
Best BBQ Eva! Ray Bros. is the jewel in upstate NY. They nail all the boxes for a restaurant, but the food is insanely good. If you haven't yet been I highly recommend.
I wanted half a chicken but they had sold out by 6:30pm so, I settled for the half rack of ribs. The ribs had a little bit of crunch which I liked, we're not overcooked and they were absolutely delish. The dirty potato salad was something I never had and was delish. Everything tasted divine!
These people treat everyone like you've been a friend or family member forever! It is a very, relaxed yet stimulating atmosphere....as far as the food goes? Well. Not so spoil the ending...you won't leave hungry...best to just come see for yourself!
We didn't eat the normal fare here but had their more limited concert/outdoor selections. Still, it was great. The pulled pork and wings were stand outs and the selection of homemade specialty sauces were all top notch. We visited here to attend a concert and I have to say that it's a terrific venue to see live music. The sound system is perfectly clear and not too loud or at all distorted and they don't gouge you on drinks or food.
Went there this past Friday and had a great time. Food was excellent; they have a variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. Their ribs were cooked very well and the apple BBQ sauce was on point! The only disappointment was that they only have brisket on Saturdays. Regardless, the food quality and service was great.
This place was awesome! Everything about my dining experience was great! The staff were friendly, and welcomed us nicely. We were seated as soon as we walked in. Our waitress took our order quickly, and was quick to get us settled in with our drinks. After a short wait our meals were brought out . Then WOW...everything was warm and tasty . The waitress checked on us throughout the meal. The portions were very good ,and the price was very fair. Overall one of the best dining experience I've ever had. Big shout out to the Ray Brothers staff, you have a great place. I wish much success in the year's ahead. I will be back, and will many other folks just how great it was.
First time here. Didn't eat outside as it is the colder months. Great prices for the portions. Awesome BBQ joint vibe. Will definitely be going back soon and trying more of the food!
I had my Mother's Day supper here (my first time there) with my son & his family. It was packed already by 4 but we luckily got in quickly~ Everyone enjoyed their meals, myself included, and everything was reasonably priced. Our waitress was great, all us moms were given a flower as well, which was very sweet & appreciated. Very comfortable atmosphere too. I'll be back for sure.
Outstanding catering experience! All of my daughters wedding guests were raving. Professional, courteous staff, and the food and drinks were exceptional, and a-plenty! thanks for catering the perfect wedding
Food is amazing. Once you have a table the service is incredibly fast and friendly. The food is fresh and really tasty and comes out so quick. The servers were on top of things and attentive. The ribs are unique and mouth watering good. The ambiance is 4 stars provided you realize it’s basically a bar and grill that serves bbq as opposed to a bbq restaurant with a bar. Ambiance is a three or two star if you’re looking for a romantic location or bbq fusion. It’s just a fantastic neighborhood bar and grill with a whole lot of get rrr done country character and really good food.
Smoked brisket is only available on Saturdays after 4. Worth every penny and any wait time. Best BBQ in NY and probably the northern US. I've traveled around the whole country, and this BBQ is at least in my top 3, if not number 1. I'd be willing to put RBQ up to the best BBQ restaurant in the world. It's worth at least a shot at that title.
Great food. Our waitress got our order exactly right. She was friendly, food temps were perfect. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family.
Amazing BBQ. Great sauces. Delicious sides. Strongly recommend visiting. Good atmosphere and regularly has love music.
Best BBQ I've had. I lived in Alabama for four years and Virginia for four also. My girlfriend is from Tennessee. We agree hands down THE BEST BBQ. also an awesome place to see live music! Inside or outside. Can't say enough good things. Just go !
My husband and I went to The Yard Amphitheater for the first time to see Zach Deputy perform! The venue was really nice, the sounds was fantastic, and the drink prices were just right. Next time we go- we are going to try their BBQ! We have heard so many good things about the food. Can’t wait to go back again!
You get a lot of food fir the price. Very delicious.
Awsome food great place. Best smoked wings I've ever had.
We came with a group of friends fir a birthday. We were seated with a small wait while we waited at the bar. Staff was great and food out of this world as always. We drive an hour to get here when we make the trip and its always well worth it!
Great little place tucked away on a little country road in upper NY. Really reasonably priced beers in a low key bar while you're waiting for your table - but then get ready for some good eats! Especially liked the sausages and meatloaf. Also saw Martin Sexton in the cozy Yard Amphitheater behind the restaurant, what a treat!
Delicious food, and the maple bacon cheesecake is the bomb 👍👍
Wow, is all we can say. The BBQ was delicious. The Hush Puppies were incredible. We could have made those a meal with your favorite beverage. The nachos were enough to feed a party of 6 for sure. The platters are hearty, so make sure to come hungry.
We stop by Ray's a couple times a year. Whether It be the antique show or on my way to camp, Ray's Bros BBQ is always a stop on the way. We are always seated promptly, and even when this place is hopping the service is good. Food is absolutely fantastic. I haven't had a bad dish to date and the sides are amazing too. I love the cucumber salad and the potato salad. You really can't go wrong here! I highly recommend you give it a try.
This review is specifically for Ray's off-site event catering! We had Ray's cater our welcome dinner the night before our wedding. Their team was prompt, the food was perfectly cooked and delicious as always, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the process seamless and reasonably priced. Our guest were mostly from out of town--they all raved about it! Highly recommend for your next event!
Absolutely delicious food. The apple cider BBQ sauce was phenomenal 😋 the portions were huge. First time in YEARS I left with left over and a overstuffed stomach. Would 100% recommend to everyone I know and have!
Best around for BBQ .. took the hour trip we had an hour wait well worth it!! Food was phenomenal. We will be back no doubt
This place is awesome and they have the business to prove it. If you come here on a weekend it can be hard to get in so you'll want to call ahead
I always stop in for a taste of the food when I’m up here visiting. Great place; if you’re visiting you need to stop in and take a moment to visit with upstate New York a friendly restaurant.
Food was excellent; fall off the bone ribs, tender chicken half, good pulled pork and crispy fries. Smokehouse ale is like a porter, very good. Lighting is a bit dim. Waitress was very attentive. Highly recommended and we will be back again!
We were in town for a horse show at SUNY Morrisville and a couple locals recommended Ray Brothers to us. They warned us that it could get busy and the wait time can be long but they said it was worth it. It was a Friday afternoon and they were quite busy but we only waited about 30 minutes which is reasonable considering the day and time. It was 1000% worth it. Our Server Sue was incredible. She was super helpful when ordering our food and drinks and was right there whenever anyone needed a refill without us needing to ask(Thanks Sue!). Now for the food. The Food Network rated Ray Brothers "Best Ribs in New York State"and they were not wrong. The ribs were the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Not only were the ribs amazing but the sides were just as good. Between us we had the Mac and cheese, BBQ beans, dirty potato salad, corn bread and sweet potato fries. All were equally amazing. Do not hesitate to eat here if you get the chance. One final note. They have a little amphitheater outside the restaurant and have concerts there in the summer. It looks like a really cool place to see a show!
Ray Brothers BBQ has absolutely blown me away. I have always been skeptical of good BBQ since working in the industry for years. Let me tell you that Ray Brothers is the real deal!! I went in on a Saturday and their special was the Brisket Dinner Platter. Brisket being my favorite, I had to get an order along with a side of the Smoked Baked Beans and the Dirty Potato Salad. The brisket was absolutely outstanding. The bark was thick and crispy, full of flavor. It was the perfect mix of fatty and lean. The fatty cuts just melting away in the mouth while the lean not being overly dried out. Both cuts were perfectly moist. Seriously the best piece of brisket I’ve had since before COVID when I was working in at a BBQ joint. The Smoked Baked Beans were a great balance of smoky, salty, and sweetness which provided the perfect warm accompaniment to the brisket. The Dirty Potato Salad was just as phenomenal with the pieces of chopped egg mixed in while not being overly dressed with mayonnaise. The Cornbread was the perfect morsel of heavenly, fluffy delicate bliss. I got my dessert to go which was the Apple Cake. Let me tell you, the Apple Cake has got to be one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. The cake is soft and fluffy with the perfect amount of moisture from the apple without being wet. The buttery sugary sauce that is poured over it is liquid gold. The best way to end a perfect meal. My only complaint is that I didn’t try this place sooner because Ray Brothers BBQ is authentic, full of flavor, and you can really see the care and the attention to detail that they have for what they are serving. Thank you so much Ray Brothers BBQ, I can’t wait to come back soon!
Dinner & Mihali ~ beautiful, intimate, outdoor venue, with an adjacent open grassy field .. where we jammed to the music, flew styrofoam airplanes, played with dogs and where families & esp kids—met and played with other kids.. Most adults were either dancing/jamming up at the stage or kicked back in camp chairs arranged in a semi-circle around the the stage dance area. Food was excellent, though a bit on the hot side for me. Also a great bev selection. Staff very helpful. In all, the sunny afternoon was a slice of nirvana.
My boss told me about this place. Took my wife for our anniversary and was very impressed! We bought tickets to a concert here in 2 weeks and cant wait to go back. The location is nice...food is out of this world and the staff was welcoming and friendly....the dirty potato salad is awesome. This is a HUGE compliment because I generally don't like potato salad!
Ray Brothers BBQ is the best BBQ in NY. Service was awesome. Amanda was fantastic and attentive. The Ribs were delicious. No one frowned when we couldn't figure out what sauce we wanted, so we got all of them in cups. Turns out that Apple one is to die for. Omg it was so good. The outside patio was beautiful. The back area has picnic tables, a stage, horseshoes, and lots of shaded area to keep cool. I would definitely recommend going to see for yourself. It was so good that we took another dinner home. Thanks for the awesome food. It's all I could think about !!!!!
What a great spot for delicious food, generous portions, friendly customer service and a welcoming atmosphere. So lucky that one of our few local restaurants is so stellar. Looking forward to becoming regulars!
Great food and it came at a reasonable time and price. Servers are super friendly. Will be coming here more often, and I can’t wait!!
We've watched this restaurant grow and expand and become a true highlight of this area - amazing food, solid and courteous service, nice atmosphere, fantastic music events and some of the kindest, most community-minded owners. We love you guys! Note: Don't forget the maple bacon cheesecake! You definitely won't have room to eat it there, so take it to go and eat it at home when you're in your comfy pants!
We stopped on our way to an event and ordered food to-go. Staff was friendly, food came out quickly and was excellent.
Food was amazing. Atmosphere and service was great as well! Nice sized portions and very reasonable prices! Can’t wait to go back!
Food was spot on the Wings were absolutely delicious got the secret sauce. Will be going again
First time eating at Ray's, had to wait in the entrance area with little kids which could have been the beginning to a bad time, but the staff promptly took our order brought out our apps and kids food within 10 minutes of sitting down, then our entree's within another 10 minutes. Service was crazy fast and each meal we ordered gave a lot of bang for our buck. We will be back, wait time or not.
If you are in the area and interested in some great bbq stop here! Love their wings and the nachos are great. Never had anything there that I didn’t like!
What a great place. We would frequent this place if it wasn't so far away from us. Check out their smoked wings. They are excellent.
We showed on our way to our son's lacrosse practice. Ordered today's specials to-go. The order was ready very fast and the food was absolutely delicious! We will be back!
Everything was so good. Very large portions, so expect leftovers. Family agreed, hands down the best potato salad and macaroni and cheese ever. Highly recommend
Best BBQ i maybe have ever had! Beat down Tony Roma in Vegas by miles!! I hate Mac and cheese but would have eaten a whole dish from here! Truly homemade. Coleslaw is awesome and hint of spice! Ribs are divine- a holy experience!! We got the NY style sauce- a little sweet w fall flavors. So good! We've live 2200 miles away but id drive here again in a heartbeat !!
Ray Brothers catered my wedding and all my guests had rave reviews. We're obsessed with the nacho dip (and the chips). Even the leftovers were great. Shannon was super responsive and attentive. We'd highly recommend a visit or for catering!
This is a can't miss experience especially if you are going on night when they have music! We saw a Fleetwood Mac tribute band that was absolutely fantastic named Seven Wonders. The staff was helpful and freindly. They were right on time to help with anything you needed. A shout out to the nice girl who took good care of Pennsylvania. Let's get to the food, we had ribs of course and wings, some of the best this side of the Mississippi. They really know what they're doing here. The portions were large, the sides are amazing, especially the baked beans and cucumber salad. There was a huge crowd there and they still served us fairly quickly. This place is way out of the way of anything but worth the drive. This is family run by two brothers and it's great to support a local business like that, go there I'm sure you will enjoy it!!!
Worth the wait! I love my bbq food and this place is the absolute best by far. The meat and sides weren’t overly Smokey the bbq sauce wasn’t too heavy the potatoes in the potato were actually cooked and had eggs- bonus for me! The Mac and cheese was amazing and cozy! The meatloaf was to die for!
First time trying Ray brothers BBQ. We were in the area and decided to meet up with friends here. It was a great spot to meet up since it was centrally located. Kids were able to play outside while we enjoyed a drink waiting for our table to be called. Outdoor area had a beautiful wood stage and looks like it would be a great spot to catch a show. All the food we ordered was delicious. We shared the pork nachos and a half rack of ribs. I was able to get a few locally brewed craft beer as well. Definitely would be back next time we are in the area.
Very good barbecue just 10 minutes outside of Colgate University and Hamilton New York. Can get very busy, we've been here a couple of times before and been turned away as they do run out of food, so go early or go on a slow day. Not a fancy place, but good bar atmosphere and family friendly dining room, with tons of outside tables during nice weather. Substantial selection of beers and ciders. Portions are large; with one frosty beverage each the bill was about $35 per person. We tried the brisket, the pulled pork and the barbecued meatloaf and all were top notch. For sides, the mac and cheese was the bomb, the potato salad and the big beans were good too. Only thing we didn't love was the salad, which was just some romaine lettuce torn up and thrown in with tomatoes and dressing. Definitely a top choice to eat when you are visiting Colgate and or Hamilton
My wife and I drove the 35 minutes from Utica to check out Ray Bros BBQ. We arrived early on a busy Friday evening. We're glad we did as both the inside and outside seating quickly filled up. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The BBQ was worth the drive. My ribs and pulled pork combo and my wife's half chicken were perfectly prepared and tasty. We found the hush puppy appetizer, made with corn meal and onion pieces, too heavy and peppery. Otherwise, the rest of our meal was excellent! We'll be back.

We tried ribs, chicken, sweet potatoes, potato salad and corn bread. Everything was excellent and the service was very efficient.
The food was fantastic!! The male bartender could have been more acknowledgable. The water tasted awful. Honestly, I would have rather been offered a bottle of water and paid $1 for it. The food was fantastic though as mentioned before. Our server was great. Overall I would return again. We've always loved the food. That's what keeps.us coming back!
The food was good but the water was absolutely terrible. It smelled very much like sulfur. Unfortunately the soda also did from the ice.
This was my 1st time here since moving to the area 4 years ago. I do a lot of smoking meats myself so I'm usually very critical at BBQ restaurants. Parking out front was too busy so I parked out back. Unfortunately there was no clear path made to the back of the restaurant so we had to walk around. We were seated right away, it was only 2pm. The inside is very nice and clean and welcoming. The chairs and table were comfortable. Our server, Jill, was very nice and accommodating. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and what was available. Which was everything except the brisket. They don't serve it until 4pm...😪. So I ordered the 3 meat platter with meatloaf, ribs, and hot links. Sides were dirty potatoes and baked beans. Wife had pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on it and sweet potato fries. Wife said the sandwich was good, just a little dry. The fries she said were very good. With my food everything was very hot! 1st time at a BBQ joint where that happened for me. I was very pleased with that. I had all my sauces on the side. The hot links were awesome! They were juicy and firm, but not hard. All the sauces are amazing! I could put that on anything and it would taste better. The meatloaf was well, meatloaf. It was good, but I was expecting more flavor. The ribs were very good. Tender, fall off the bone, but not overdone. They were pretty meaty too. FYI, I tried all meats without any sauce first so I could just taste the meats. I was very surprised that there was very little smoke flavor in my opinion. I was surprised at that because most BBQ joints are smokey. I make my meats with low smoke as well mainly because my wife doesnt like a lot. The sides were good too. The dirty potato salad was very good. The beans were okay. They lacked the flavor of a BBQ joint in my opinion. The beans had a good consistency but I think lacked some meat scraps they could have added and more of their rub for flavor. I added their regular sauce and they tasted much better. Overall I would like to go back and try the chicken and the brisket. Also I thought the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend going here if you haven't yet like me. It is worth the visit. Like my wife said, "it's a good place to go when you aren't cooking your own and you're in the mood for some." Good point!
Hoping for baby baby back ribs and they had none on a Friday night at 5pm. So had to settle for the Saint Louis style. First order came out and could not even cut through with a knife must have been a leftover. Second order could cut through but in my opinion they should fall off the bone. Just saying
Ray Brothers BBQ is a fun spot with a lively atmosphere. Their main offerings are Carolina-style BBQ—pulled pork and chicken are the staples, and occasionally they’ll have brisket. The food was decent, though on the pricey side for the portion size and overall quality. Coming from Texas, I wasn’t overly impressed with their take on “BBQ,” but it’s still a solid meal if you’re craving smoked meats in the area. The place gets very busy, so expect a wait if you’re trying to snag a table. They do have an outdoor area and a large yard, which makes it family-friendly and gives plenty of space to hang out. It looks like they host a lot of concerts and events, which adds to the fun vibe. Parking is decent and manageable even when crowded. Overall, worth checking out for the atmosphere and experience, though BBQ enthusiasts from the South might find the flavors and portions a bit underwhelming.

The food here was seriously so delicious! It was the best bbq food that I had all summer. The only downsides here is that all of their beverages have a sulfur smell and taste to them, it’s probably…
Past two times I've been there the food has been a little disappointing
Not a 4.7 star restaurant. Portions for the money you pay don't add up. 38$ for 3 meat platter definitely not worth it. Was told by people it was really good . It's not food cold meatloaf tasted like hamburg with bbq sauce. . Only thing worth getting is cheesecake. Probably won't be back not worth 130$ i spent
Good size portions more then a serving, food wasn't what I expected fries were soft yet some burnt, macaroni and cheese was mushy and just room temperature. Chicken was on the dryer side. Salad didnt have much for dessing. Service was good didn't really see much of the waitress. Great with kids but not much for the picky ones haha.
I have always loved the food her but today not so much chicken was so small and Mac n cheese tasted cold like it had been sitting and 4.16 for a ginger ale holy cow
Food was alright. I'm not a meat eater so I got the veggie burger which basically was a very mushy bean burger. French fries were good, cornbread was excellent. Soda was gross (because of their water system?) Root beer was very good, but overpriced for what you get ($5.) My husband liked his food which was some sort of taco. The sauces were excellent. Server was very good. I think the prices are a bit steep for the amount of food you get. There's really not many restaurants in this immediate area so you are limited for dinner options. I personally would not go back because of limited options for me, perhaps if they changed to a Beyond or Impossible Burger, my husband probably would go back.
This was my first time here and I was disappointed. Everyone raves about Ray Brothers and I was hoping for more. I had a 2 meat platter with chicken and meat loaf. The chicken was dry and the meat loaf was a lump of flavor less meat. My buddies felt the same. Everything was meh. The best part of the meal was our two for one beers for happy hour. Our server Lindsay was great, though! I'll try it again sometime because every place has off days.
Pretty good barbeque spot. Great atmosphere, nice outdoor area and live music. The meat was good - ribs fell off the bone, smoked chicken was tasty. Pulled chicken could have used more smoke. No brisket option, which I guess makes sense since they're going for the Carolina bbq style, but we're in NY so I was disappointed. Main complaint is about the sides. Beans were way too sweet - almost sickly. Maybe they accidentally doubled the sugar in the recipe today? Cornbread was also too sweet, and pretty dry. Mac and cheese was a little bland and pretty basic. Carolina sauce was good. Other sauces were again way too sweet. Bomb sauce would be great if they toned down the sugar.
A friend and I went yesterday for an early dinner on our way back from a girls excursion. We got the full rack sharing dinner for $47. The ribs were absolutely terrible - vastly overcooked and dry with very little meat. The waitress was great, checking in on us early and replacing our rack. The second rack was no better. I won’t go back.
Walking in didn't take long to be seated. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Placing order was easy the sauces available were plenty to choose from. Started with the Hush puppies (jalapeno) were just a bit spicy but really spicy to my cousin. We ordered the ribs for 2 and it didn't take as long to come to table think wait was less then 15 mins. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. The ribs came out looking a lil burnt but surprisingly was tender. Yet lil crispy on outside for my liking. The sides were good not sure what type of beans in the baked beans but they were ok. Mac n cheese decent. Have to say that dirty potato salad was actually pretty good.
Food was fine, but their water is horrible. Very sulfuric and slimy, along with any drinks that come from the bar or are made with ice. Leaves a rough taste in your mouth. They also changed me $1.56 extra on their Wing Special because I ordered it as an entree, but never told me that would be a fee. Nashville Hot is also not that spicy, and ask for the wings extra crispy (coming from someone who lives in Buffalo). The wait is tough, we sat outside or it was a 25min wait for indoor seating (they'd opened 30mins prior).
Poor customer service by the front desk "young ladies" rude and not helpful. They need customer service training badly. We went to wing night and had 6 in our group. Wings were not good. Frankly, how did they leave the kitchen? They were not tender at all and needed more time. But the pit master should have known that with quality control. Taste it! If they are not right please do not serve. You know this. I now have 5 that do not wish to return. The pork sandwich was good and the chicken was dry but ok.... tender. We have been to Ray's several times. It seems that things are sliding and not worth the money. They could fix it by putting pride back into it. You are only as good as your last plate served to your customer. These customers are disappointed with the quality. Hope you turn it around.... side are good and sauces are as well. Step back and taste your food for quality. We wish you well. We may try again in the future. But dropping over 200 on a family outing for this experience leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
I cannot speak on behalf of the taste or flavor of Ray Brothers BBQ because I have yet to actually taste any of their food. My first attempt was in vain because the original location was too busy to patronize. My second attempt at the new Hamilton location also failed. I ordered a burrito from what appeared to be a rather dried out array of ingredients. I imagine that, due to the novelty of the business there just wasn't enough traffic to turn the food. However, I lost all interest when the server deliberately mixed the ingredients all together. I politely explained to them that I was no longer interested and would have to pass on my order. I would like to see this location succeed and hope that my review serves well as constructive feedback. From what I understand they have a strong following.
They are WAY too expensive, for what you actually get. \n\nThey won an award way back when, & that was it. Full stop! They peaked & then they just dropped. \n\nIf there is one thing that explains t…
My wife and I went to rays brother BBQ on Monday and as always the wait is pretty long, but it never bothered me. After an hour passed I walked in and asked the associate how much longer will it be since we brought our new born with us this time and she told us it’ll be a little bit longer. We requested to be seated outside since it can get really loud and stuffing inside the restaurant. After another half an hour our buzzer goes off telling us our table was ready, so you would think. When we got up to the counter she told us they only had inside seats available and that they close in about half hour. I told her we requested the outdoor seats since we had a new born with us. She told us you can wait longer or take the seat inside giving me no choice in the matter. If I waited any longer they would’ve closed and i don’t wanna stay past close to eat since I know how it feels when you’re closing and you have people still eating. We decide to leave after almost 2 hours of waiting in the car with a new born. I can tell you people it’s not worth it. The food is decent don’t get me wrong (except the water they serve) the wait isn’t worth it trust me! They lost my business..
Saturday late afternoon around 5pm (day before mothers day) I call this place & ask if I can place an order for take out in advance for the next day/Sunday. Girl says no, but we open up at noon tomorrow, call then & we can take care of you, it only takes 15 - 20 minutes to get take out orders done. Sunday arrives, I drive an hour & when I get to cazenovia at 12:30, I stopped to get gas & call this place to place my order as this was my only plans for mothers day. I call first, no answer. 4th time calling someone finally answers. I said I wanted to place an order for takeout & was told they aren't doing take out orders. That would have really been nice to know the day before when I called & asked & before driving over an hour one way! The lack of communication at this place is absolutely horrible!
I hate voting a locally owned restaurant badly, but we had the worst dining experience we've ever had today at Ray Brothers. It took 45 minutes of non stop calling to get through on their phone lines. (Fair, we know they're popular!) When we got through, we asked if they were out of any items , and were told they were out of a side, and cornbread. We placed our order (attached receipt) for three platters, all with sides. We were told a 25 minute wait, which ended up being 45. (Still okay) When we picked up our order, we asked if they would take anything off, or add an extra side because the meals were all supposed to come with cornbread and none of them did. The manager replied "absolutely not, the cornbread is a free item we offer with the platters so there's no money off for it". The girl at the counter honestly seemed embarrassed and was very polite and apologetic about it. We drive 35 minutes home and the $30 rib platter we ordered is missing both sides. So..no cornbread, and no sides. We paid $30 for a single rack of ribs. We checked the receipt and saw they they're also tacking on a "to go" fee, which they never mentioned and is really nice of them during covid when they only offer take out and nothing else. For three hours we've been trying to call them to see what can be done about the order, and the line is either busy or goes to their answering machine. At 6:30 (they close at 7) it's only going to answering machine, so I'm guessing they aren't taking calls anymore tonight. The food is okay. Pulled pork dry, Mac and cheese nothing special. Ribs were good flavour but a lot of fat. We didn't care for the slaw, but it's dirty style which isn't our favourite. Your milage may vary. Fries tasted weirdly sweet? Not great by any means and certainly not worth this terrible experience we've had. The portions are very small and we do not feel like we've gotten anywhere near almost $70 worth of food. Will not be going back and will be advising others to steer clear.
Why all the hullabaloo about this place? My ribs were small and unexciting in flavor, the sides were mediocre, and my roughly $25 meal was served on a plastic brown cafeteria tray and warped cheap wood plates. My meal kept tipping about because my plate was so cheap and so warped. Considering the wait time to get seated and the price of the entrees, I was extremely disappointed.
The quality of service has noticeably declined over the past few years. During a recent visit, a group of elderly guests politely asked to have two tables put together so they could sit comfortably as a group, but the staff refused to accommodate them. Moving two tables together and then returning them afterward isn’t a difficult task and would’ve gone a long way in making everyone feel welcome. Also, it’s surprising that a well-known barbecue restaurant—one that people travel long distances to visit—doesn’t offer brisket on a daily basis. Brisket is a staple at most reputable barbecue spots, and its absence was disappointing. I hope this restaurant realizes that, while it may be popular now, continued poor service can quickly turn things around for the worse. Success doesn’t last without consistently treating customers right.
Went there last year and really enjoyed the food. A little loud but no big deal, it's a bar. We went there again last night to celebrate a birthday with family and got seated after our expected 30 minute wait, ordered drinks, and our waitress told us she'd be right back after delivering said drinks. The water tasted like sewer and even the soda started to after awhile likely from the ice. Guessing they use well water and didn't filter it well? Anyway, we sat at our table at 6:35 and it's 7:10 when we see our waitress again. She looks right at us and turns to take the drink order of the table next to us instead who just sat down. Walks away, doesn't look back. She comes back literally 2 minutes later, again, looks right at us and down at our menus, delivers the table's drinks and walks away a second time without even acknowledging that she's been ignoring us for 40 minutes. Another table on the other side of us that she was serving had also been waiting all this time for their check while being ignored. We say something to the hostess who was going to get it straightened out but after being looked directly at and intentionally ignored twice, we just threw a few dollars down for our drinks and leave. Everything in the area closes at 8 so it's now 7:30 and we have very little options. We thankfully found Ye Old Pizza Pub and it was open late enough to still get a birthday dinner and was absolutely delicious. Very disappointed and unsure if we will go back. Can't remember our server's name but an older blonde lady in a peach/pink button up. Definitely will request a new server if we get her the next time we go, if we do!
