Best coffee in town plus the best people. Always my go to!
Had two days in Houston this week and were staying nearby. Decided this joint was the place to go for an early morning coffee and quick breakfast. Absolutely loved the croissant with ham cheese and egg. The wife loved the yougurt and granola. Coffees were exceptional. So good infact. Instead of finding somewhere else to go on he second morning in Houston, we just came back here and tried another coffee and different meals. Dill scramble with salmon was amazing. Well done dudes and dudettes, your joint rocks!
Man i cant start to tell you how much i love their coffee, it rotates styles brew types but is always top notch. Straight black ill drink 2+ cups, love sitting there and relaxing on a saturday morning and watch the cars drive by on westheimer. Food is also really good, that blacksmith bowl is great after a good workout.
I love visiting coffee shops, and I’ve had my eyes on Blacksmith for a while. I finally went this morning and I enjoyed my experience. I arrived around 9:30 and even though there was a line, it moved quickly. I ordered an iced americano and the silver platter chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were delicious; the chips were crunchy and the salsa verde tasted similar to my mom’s. I kinda wished they served the iced drinks in a glass instead of a plastic cup like they do their hot drinks but oh well. Next time, I’ll make sure to bring my glass cup. Although the place looks small, there’s plenty of seating to study. Plenty of parking too.
Very nice place, comfy welcoming atmosphere. I got a regular latte and a croissant with cream fresh (?) and some sort of jam (I don't remember). The latte was very softly flavoured, I normally like darker ones but it was nicely balanced. The croissant was so flaky, soft, and warm. The latte art was my all time favourite part, the barista who made it is so talented. Would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Great coffee place that offers breakfast and lunch menu too. We had the blacksmith bowl and the vietnamese steak and eggs for lunch and it was a good portion! They also have a wode range of tea selection if coffee isnt your thing. Logistics: ample parking space at the back of their store. Currently not having any indoor service, you place your order through their backdoor, and you can sit on their patio. If you're maskless, you can order on their website / or call ahead and they can bring it up to you like curbside.
I grabbed a Croissant with egg, bacon and cheese, and the sugar cane latte. The sandwich was ok not great not bad, but the sugar cane latte was amazing. It's just the right sweetness. Really smooth and enjoyable. They cram a good amount of seating in a small area, and it's surprisingly not too loud. The staff was generous and friendly. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other coffees and teas. The price is reasonable and there is a good amount of parking, which in this area is a huge plus. I'd mainly come here just to get some work done and enjoy a drink, but I am open to trying some of the more elaborate dishes.
So I definitely thought they were closed the past few years because the old parking lot has been dug up, the building has been graffitied, and the shades they put up made it look shuttered, but there's actually a new parking lot behind it! There was plenty of parking when we went on the weekend in the afternoon. Biscuits are still great, coffee is still great, and seasonal selections are fun and interesting. Menu was moved to kind of a weird spot (there may be people sitting directly in front of the menu wall so it feels like you're staring at them) but staff were helpful in navigating and clarifying the menu items for us folks with dietary restrictions.
The food is great. It's one of my favorite places to eat breakfast.
Thanks to the exceptional staff here today for their professionalism and their expertise in all things coffee.
Whoa! The vanilla cloud on top of my delicious cold brew absolutely ☕️🤯😍🤯☕️ blew my mind! I’ve never had anything like it before and will be returning next time we visit Houston. The food was just as good, too! The scratch biscuit was warm, flaky, and was even better with the homemade strawberry jam. We took a cookie to go and boy are we glad we did. The Peanut Butter marble cookie is hands down one of the best cookies we’ve ever had - dark chocolate marble with Reece’s pieces and more! The welcoming queer friendly 💪🏽🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️💪🏽 vibes were vibin’ too. We felt welcomed in the cozy indoors even though the place was so packed we didn’t have a seat (it was raining outside, so outdoor seating was unavailable). We’ll definitely be back!
Great atmosphere, not too crowded. Good place for catching up with friends and have a conversation
I had the best chai latte. Can’t photograph baby it’s all gone. ☕️
Quality coffee & tea drinks and delicious breakfast options. I highly recommend the dill scramble as it comes in salmon on top of pumpernickel bread. Inside the atmosphere is relaxed & inviting. The music was a touch too loud for my tastes, so I made my way outside. There are two outdoor seating areas which, unfortunately, are surrounded by busy streets, but the west side is a bit quieter. Ample parking & a bike share station on the adjacent corner for those brave enough to bike Houston's streets.
Love at first bite. I know it’s not the most appealing photo but it tasted so good I had to snap and devour. This is the best black coffee I’ve had in the states. The take home beans make a great French press using the Hoffman (YouTube) method. I went back for a piccolo and it didn’t disappoint. New favourite cafe for sure.
This is one of the first coffee places I tried in Houston & I was so happy I chose this place. The coffee is phenomenal & the food is delicious! I have been there many times since & it never disappoints. Customer service is great. It can get hectic since they are pretty popular but the wait is worth it. The wait is never too much either. I have tried hot & iced coffee & both along with food are always impressive.
In addition to its prime location in the heart of Montrose, Blacksmith Coffee House elevates the overall experience with its exceptional staff and pristine cleanliness. The dedicated and friendly team at Blacksmith exemplifies excellent customer service, adding a warm and welcoming touch to every visit. Their passion for coffee and commitment to ensuring patrons have a memorable time is evident in the personalized service they provide. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the establishment is truly commendable. Blacksmith Coffee House maintains a spotless environment, creating a hygienic and comfortable space for guests to enjoy their coffee and meals. The attention to cleanliness not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also reflects the cafe's commitment to providing a top-notch experience. The combination of a central Montrose location, fantastic staff, and a meticulously clean setting positions Blacksmith Coffee House as a standout destination for those seeking not just great coffee and unique cuisine but also a welcoming and hygienic environment to savor these delightful offerings.
Great spot to grab a nice upscale cup of coffee. I would recommend the pancakes to go with your coffee. Staff is always quick and friendly.
If you're a picky coffee drinker like me (or coffee snob) you won't be disappointed. There is a nice selection of small bites, mainly in the form of sweet or savory pastries, and fuller meals for bigger appetites. Service is friendly, and ample space to sit indoors or out. Will definitely be back. Five stars all around.
I personally though this place had one of the best iced lattes I've tastes. Unfortunately didn't get to try food besides some pastries but they were delicious. Parking is at the back and gets full quite easily since it's not huge. Had both indoor and outdoor seating. Didn't like the Togo iced coffee cup though . But that's nothing major
This neighborhood coffee spot consistently serves top-notch beverages, boasting excellent quality and freshly made oat milk in-house. While seating can be limited due to its popularity, the friendly staff and complimentary water station enhance the experience. Additionally, their selection of healthy food options adds to the appeal. Side note: restroom access requires a code from the staff. Over all the aesthetics of the restaurant is nice and I love their cups for the hot coffees and teas; friendly staff. Definitely coming back!
Love the coffee. The biscuits are amazing and fresh every day. I love the crème Fraiche in place of butter on bread items. Come in for a coffee, a snack, a meal, or any of the desserts. The patio is cool and can be a little loud with street noise. More than anything the service is amazing. They always take care of me. Any error is managed seamlessly for every customer and they’re always working discreetly to offer the best service to every customer.
Vibe- This is a dope coffee shop in Montrose with plenty of outdoor seating and a good amount of indoor seating, I counted about 10 tables (each with 2-3 seats) and a bar against the wall with 5 bar stools. Customer service- Great, the barista was very pleasant! Food/drinks- I went with a hot matcha latte with oatmilk and I got tacos with potatoes, avocado and beans, everything was delish!! Parking- There’s a pretty decent size lot behind the shop and you can actually enter the shop from the back lot.
Quality coffee, relaxed vibe, friendly and helpful staff. The default espresso kinda tastes like baking spices (think gingerbread cookie) which is interesting. They also have a rotating single-origin espresso, plus a few pour-overs. Vegan food option is one oatmeal-like pastry. No upcharge for oat/almond milk is nice.
This is such a cute coffee shop and as a coffee snob I can confirm their coffee is excellent - made better w fresh almond milk. The customer service too is awesome. Can’t wait to be back.
I had the blacksmith plate with a biscuit, bacon and a cortado. I am not exaggerating when I say that everything was perfect. I'm especially excited to share how amazing their biscuits and coffee are. I mean, myyyy god! I haven't had food that delicious in a hot minute! Will definitely be coming back to try out the rest of your menu, and just know that expectations have been declared 😊
The best breakfast place in Houston! We came here every day during our trip, even twice a day once. The pancakes, salmon egg scramble dill toast, and black smith bowl are the best. Highly highly recommend.
We're in Houston quite often and we're always looking for a place to buy roasted beans. We finally found a place to our liking- Blacksmith. Blacksmith offers Greenway roasted beans. We got a bag of roasted Guatemalan beans and it produced an excellent cup of coffee! To our surprise, when we bought a bag of beans we got a cup of coffee for free- bonus! Thank you, Blacksmith! Next time we're back in Houston, we will get our beans from Blacksmith. Blacksmith is definitely worth a visit, especially if you want to quality roasted and brewed coffee! By the way the blueberry muffin was very delectable!
I don’t usually write reviews, but Blacksmiths deserves one. At 34, I’ve eaten at a lot of restaurants and don’t fall in love with places easily. We were in England for 10 days and ended up coming back to Blacksmiths three times. There’s just something about it — the warmth (especially at Christmas), the music, the history, and how comfortable it feels the moment you walk in. The service was consistently great — thank you Flo — and the food never missed. Still thinking about the Pad Thai. Blacksmiths will be a non-negotiable stop for us next time we’re in the UK. Huge thanks to Steph and the entire team for creating such a special place.
Blacksmith has that vibe--the kind of effortlessly chill atmosphere that hits you the moment you step inside. Warm lighting, the low hum of conversation, and the incredible smell of fresh coffee and food drifting through the air create a space that feels both inviting and energizing. And floating through it all was the faint sound of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the background--soft, nostalgic, and absolutely perfect for the moment. We came in early for a football game, slightly hungover and desperately needing something comforting but quality--and Blacksmith absolutely delivered. This place just hits right when you need a reset. The team here is all smiles--genuine, attentive, and unmistakably kind. Their service is impeccable, the kind that makes you feel taken care of without ever feeling rushed. I ordered the Blacksmith bowl with an egg and a corridor, and shared one of their legendary biscuits. The bowl was vibrant, flavorful, and beautifully layered--comforting yet elevated in all the best ways. The egg added that perfect velvety richness, and the corridor was smooth, bright, and the exact kind of pick-me-up your body says "thank you" for. And that biscuit... buttery, warm, flaky perfection. From the ambiance to the aromas to the music to the service, everything at Blacksmith feels intentionally crafted. It was exactly what we needed, and we walked out feeling alive again. Already planning the next visit.
Blacksmith is one of our favorite spots in Houston, but especially in the Montrose area. Baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is AMAZING and made from scratch. Do yourself a favor and get a biscuit and a competition cappuccino. So so good. They have a decent sized parking lot. Seating inside can fill up pretty quickly, especially on a weekend, but luckily there is plenty of outdoor seating as well. They also have high chairs for little ones.
My fav matcha in Houston right now… they make their own almond milk which inspired me to start making my own! The birds of paradise is 10/10. I would order 5 at a time if it was socially acceptable. The staff is always nice and welcoming, even during busy hours. There are as many tables as you can fit comfortably, and the outdoor patio is great too! Vibe is chill with mostly natural light. Love 🤍
love the vibe, their matcha, their delicious food (the strawberry pancake & pastries) & great customer service. they get busy often but i appreciate the private lot. i really like their menu design. i think they redid their concept or something bc i remember it wasnt like this 10 years ago
By far one of the best coffee shops in Houston. They got it all. Great coffee, friendly baristas, and a great vibe. They also make great seasonal drinks. Right now, I’m loving the Peachy Fizz, which is espresso, tonic water, and an apricot and peach syrup. They also make a fantastic flat white here too. The pastries in the display case on the other hand can be a hit or miss. When it’s good, it’s really good, but most of the time it’s just ok.
This is literally the best coffee in Houston. The food is yummy and affordable, the vibes are good and the staff are super kind people. It's my go to and they are always on point.

Good coffee, really nice chai tea. I would rate the chai as my number second or third best in Houston. The croissant was nice but a bit too flaky for me, if you like it flaky then this place is your jam. Speaking of, the jam and creme fresh were really refreshing. I also got the smoked salmon and dill scramble. Light, flavorful, and filling. Plenty of outdoor seating and just enough indoor seating to make it feel not too congested. Staff is really nice and friendly and the service is very quick.
Great food, coffee and service. But it was crowded when I went with few tables open.
Came here to study on a Sunday. Overall a really great experience. Available plugs and free WiFi. Limited menu but food and drinks are wonderful. Would highly recommend the Vietnamese steak and eggs. Pretty busy around lunch time but table turnover was fast and didn’t have a problem finding a seat. Great seating space, tables for pairs and ample bar-like seating as well. Nice outdoor space along the road, but not too loud and covered.
Small Cafe shop, but don't let that stop you from trying it. Had the Black Smith Breakfast and it was damn good, as was the service. Espresso coffee came on a small serving plater accompanied with a small glass of sparkling water....really cool ... Indoor and Outdoor Dining is available, dedicated parking lot as well... A tad bit pricey but worth it....
Blacksmith is a nice place to go to for a quick bite and coffee during the morning or afternoon. However, it closes at 5 pm, so don't think of Blacksmith as a good nighttime spot. They have a free private parking lot which is a huge plus for the Montrose area. They also have outdoor patios if it gets too stuffy inside. They serve breakfast and lunch as well. We ordered the Latté ($4.00) and the Vietnamese Steak and Eggs ($15.00) on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed, but we were able to find seating at the bar beside the cashier. The steak and eggs were good, but they really need to chill on the salt. The meal was served with a bun and small side salad, but I found it a bit overpriced at $15, especially since the meat was much too salty. We enjoyed the latté, it was creamy and they even did some latté art on it. Overall, Blacksmith is a nice little coffee shop. I like that they have their own free private parking lot, outdoor patios, and that they serve good coffee. However, it closes at 5 pm, so it's not a place I'd frequently go.
I came to Blacksmith a few years ago. It was a nice little cozy spot tucked away on a corner. The front of the building seemed to be under construction. Parking was in the back. The ambiance inside had the feel of a study hall. Hipster vibes. It was quiet and not a lot of conversations in the air. The wait in line was a bit long. After ordering I sat down. The seating felt a little awkward and tables felt really close. Not an issue but an observation nonetheless. I sampled the Vietnamese Steak and Eggs, Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble, Biscuit with cream fraiche and jam and Silver Platter Chilaquiles. Of the four, I preferred the Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble. The salmon had a great smokey flavor and the eggs were fluffy. It was a good combination. The biscuit was delicious! The Vietnamese steak and eggs were not bad but if you've had bò né at a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston, then you know this is not the same. Very good but not great. Still not a bad dish. The chilaquiles did leave something to be desired. They tasted good but just not what I'd expect from chilaquiles in an authentic Mexican restaurant. It was probably my least favorite of everything I ate there. Everything tasted good for a neighborhood cafe. The coffee was really good. Nice and strong! I enjoyed it. If you're looking for a quiet place to chill or just relax while drinking coffee, this is a great place to do it.
It was great! I’m giving it a 4/5 only because it is a small space and the only available seating during rush was outside which was supppperrr cold and kinda took from the experience- was really hoping for some sort of heater outside, cause my coffee got cold fast 😭 Everything else was perfect, service is always great and the shop itself is always clean. Drinks and food come out fast too~
The coffee was delicious, really great. The sandwich was rather petite, and not all that filling. Still not sure how I feel about the pickled tomato slice, either. There is some work taking place but the canopy that is wrapped around the building is split in half and just feels redundant.
This was my 1st time to Blacksmith and I will definitely be back. The food was good. I ordered the Salmon Pesto Scramble and my sister ordered the bacon and egg n cheese biscuit. The biscuits are thick and crumbly textured. So of you like that type of biscuit that's what I recommend. It can be filling. The coffee was great! Pictures is caramel café latte and it was done to perfection. Even if you order a cup of black coffee the coffee is a good grade of bean to drink without anything extra!
Cool ambiance, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It is located right by an busy road, so headphones would’ve made for a better time sitting outside. The cortado I tried was interesting! The espresso almost had a savory flavor to it. I decided to try the blacksmith plate upon staff recommendation, but unfortunately it was underwhelming. It needed a salsa or more seasoning all around.
First time review I have been meaning to check it out since I saw a tiktok of the Birds of Paradise matcha. Its guava matcha, its so good, I got 2. ($16) Blacksmith bowl($14) my sister rated it a 11/10. Its gives a nice taste of lime. Parking was fine. No wait time We found a table to study but the there was no charging outlets. Make sure yr devices are charged prior.
Have always heard great things but we usually do breakfast and coffee at home. We popped in on a recent Saturday morning. The space is larger than I was expecting and had a nice merch selection upon entry. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. My normal go to order is a bone dry cappuccino but I decided to try the competition cappuccino along with the yogurt and toasted granola. My husband got a drip coffee and the breakfast tacos. My cappuccino ended up being a little too sweet for me but I loved how it came with a side car espresso shot and my breakfast was a little heavy on the yogurt and light on granola. Overall this was a cute coffee shop but I find that I am happier in my own kitchen on a Saturday morning.
Popular Montrose coffee shop with tasty food offerings I tried their Dark Forrest drink, which was tasty but slightly pricy at $7 ($8.58 with tax/tip). Their Vietnamese Steak and Eggs are great but they didn’t have any when I visited. Staff are friendly. Interior vibe isn’t too loud so a solid place to study. While there are large windows the interior can be on the dark side and I didn’t notice many (if any) wall outlets.
Great food and coffee. atmosphere is cute and quiet. They have security guards outside

This is one cafe that has good drinks but just okay food. We ordered the Hot Cocoa and Vanilla Latte. They were nice. The temperature of the drinks was perfect to drink without burning your mouth, but if you like your drink hot, ask for extra hot. The Smoked Salmon Dill Scramble comes on a toast and makes the toast soggy. It'll be better to get the toast in the side. The Scratch Square Biscuit with cheddar, egg, and sausage was nothing to remember. The sausage was extra chewy and the biscuit was toasted in more than necessary amount of butter. That being said the atmosphere was very good as a cafe. There were a lot of people working on their laptops. It's a good place to grab a drink and work but I can't recommend it to grab a bite.
The coffee is 5 stars but the food is 2 stars. Its not that it didn't taste good but the serving size is small and the price is $$$$. I ordered the BLT for $11 and it was on a tiny 3.5" bun and only had 1.5 slices of bacon. What man is satisfied with a slice and a half of 🥓? Definitely not worth it. The coffee was fantastic though.
The coffee and food are genuinely good, and the place has a nice atmosphere to sit and work. However, the Wi-Fi is extremely unreliable for laptops. It connects, but there is no actual internet access, even though it works on phones. If you’re planning to work on a MacBook or any laptop, don’t count on the Wi-Fi. Great spot for coffee and food, but not a good option if you need stable internet to get work done.
Came here as I saw generally good reviews. I think food is okay, not what I expected though. My coffee (regular drip) had a burned flavor and was too acidic. Asked for a fresh one and they gave me a “fresh” americano. Honestly did not taste any difference. Place has a comfortable environment, although I would not come back here.
I bought an iced tea and a cookie to go. The person fixing my tea only filled the cup half full of tea before starting to scoop up the ice. I asked for little ice at that moment because I wanted a higher tea to ice ratio. The person complied, then tried to give me the tea without adding more tea to the cup. I asked them to add more tea, and they did, though they didn’t fill it to the brim. I asked them to please fill it up. They got annoyed and said that filling the cup half full of tea is what they always do for iced teas. Excuse me? I know iced tea doesn’t cost much to make, and this business charges $4 for it. I wouldn’t return here, though the cookie was great.
I had a blacksmith bowl with an egg. It looked interesting and colourful. The egg was the the only tasty element in the bowl for me. There was no depth of flavour in the dish. Lots of things in the bowl but they don't really go together unfortunately. Maybe this is what it's supposed to be like but it doesn't work for me. If you are a real foodie - this is definitely not a place to be. I won't go there again.
I had a bad experience in this place, the worst customer service. The cappuccino was cold and had a really bad taste, I return it and they don’t exchange it for other one. The out meal it’s a v…
Let me begin with this: i love blacksmith and have been a regular for a while. Their coffee is a good and food is great. Recently however it has become a pretentious spot where folks cannot gather in community or experience joy. I say this because a friend and i were eating while laughing/catching up; however, we were interrupted and told we were being too loud and to quiet down. While polite, my friend and i felt really uncomfortable as the baristas were staring. Additionally, the place is usually loud as it is a small building and folks talk over one another. Why now? Blacksmith has begun to really monitor folks and how they take space in the establishment--seems they're more interested in serving quiet clientele of a certain class/race. Disappointing and sad to lose another coffeeshop to pretentious attitude. Tl; DR: blacksmith is bad with joy and community; good for rich folks and people who can be quiet i guess 🥲
Zero stars if I could. Visited 12/31 at 3 pm. The female barista was too friendly/ flirtatious with my partner and the male barista was rude when I told him that the drinks were bad and if he could remake them. The remakes were bad too. I originally ordered a caramel iced latte with almond milk and my partner ordered the hojicha with almond milk . Our remakes were both caramel iced lattes with oat milk. They were not good at all
