I used to bring all of my first dates here!!! I love this place. Very chill atmosphere. It's a nice place to unwind after a long week at work. I wouldn't consider it a "party" bar, or a "bro" bar like some of the bars close to Collegetown. It's just a chill, average bar! Last time I was here, they had a popcorn machine, pool table, and dart board! There's also been dogs there on several occasions, not sure if they're dog friendly or not, as I haven't noticed any sign postings stating their status on pets. All in all, The Westy is a gem!!!

Great beers, and if you manage to make it on a night where the food cart is open (not sure if post-pandemic it is still there), you're in luck! Fun place to bring a few friends and hang out. Especially great in the summer when you can sit outside comfortably at their picnic tables. Be prepared to see lots of locals too!

My go-to hangout spot. Super chill atmosphere, and nights with live bands are a lot of fun. The drinks are great, the staff is friendly, there's pool, darts, and free popcorn... what more can you ask for? Plus, being a 23+ bar, it avoids a lot of the college crowd. Great beer garden with all the standard fare beer options you want. There are other beer gardens in Ithaca, but a lot of them are hawking exclusively their own brews, and sometimes you just want a Guinness.

Easily in my top three bars in Ithaca. The beer selection is great, and wide enough to please all palates. Every time I have been the patrons are friendly and have a good vibe. The live music scene is great, featuring a lot of locals doing original music that will leave you wanting more. From drinks to ambiance, the Westy is hard to beat.

It has outdoor space to drink and converse. Welcoming staff, wonderful service. They have excellent cocktails. They give free popcorn as well.

Perfect in the summertime with its large outdoor beer garden, cozy in the winter inside. Steel tip dart board, pool table, free popcorn. Clientele is a mix of grad students, young local professionals, service industry folks etc. Not the spot for getting blackout on your 21st birthday. Staff is experienced and kind, good mix of local and general domestic beers as well as a full bar of liquor for cocktails. Not swanky but far from dingey or divey.

Large beer selection, many local. They don't serve food but there is free popcorn and you can bring your own food in, or cook your own food on the grills outside. Nice outdoor area with lots of picnic tables. There is often live music and/or a food truck parked there. Pool table and dartboard inside. Great beer selection. Cozy (don't read into this) atmosphere. A couple TV's in case you have a game you want to watch. Small stage for great local bands/singers. Awesome beer selection and not so trendy that you have to wear flannel and rolled up jeans to get in. Staff are inviting. So are the patrons. Not a Towny, dive bar. Good mix of everything.

A casual hipster bar with tons of beers on tap (many local, some unusual), large outdoor seating area with a food truck sometimes there on select evenings. Free popcorn is the only solid food, otherwise, though there are good pizza, Vietnamese, and Chinese take out places within a block. I've brought in take out food before and it wasn't a problem, just be considerate and clean up after yourself. They have a dart board, and cornhole out back. The crowd is a mix of grad students and locals who you might expect to find at the Farmer's Market.

The Westy is killing it! Their outdoor space is great. Everyone is socially distant and following the rules. They are even adhering to the crowd numbers. I saw them regretfully turn away customers because they had reached capacity. I feel safe and get to have drinks with my friends in a social setting. Cheers 🍻

Stopped by during an impromptu 30-ish year college reunion with friends. Immediately recognized the historic old tables from the Chapter House (R.I.P.) and the sign from Micawber's (R.I.P.). Lovely bartender, very nice selection of beers, pretty crowd. Really need to chill on the popcorn salt though!

We decided to give this place a try and so glad we did! What a nice little hidden gem. We went before 5 pm, and the craft beer was $4! Can't wait to go back when the weather is nicer to go to the beer garden. We didn't get food but we did have the free popcorn! Don't snooze on this place!🍻

Found it on a whim before a hockey game. Reminiscence of Cheers with a dive bar vibe. My wife and I cannot say enough good things about the service, atmosphere, and patrons. Not the easiest to find, but once you get there, you may not want to leave.

Their sonic tonic is top notch. For hard cider aficionados, there are limited options. There are plenty of picnic tables in the backyard surrounded by lights. The bar has a pool table and popcorn is free. Chill atmosphere. Would definitely go again!

One of the best bars in Ithaca. Huge tap selection that is constantly rotating and they also have a great liquor selection. Only one of three bars in all of Ithaca with any good rum. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Bouncers at the door when it's busy to insure everyone is of age as well. Thankfully 21 also means no children here (even a nice sign) No actual food, but they do have a free, self-serve popcorn machine when you need a snack to balance out. They also allow you to bring in food. Large outdoor section outback as well (open all year, but no heaters). Lots of picnic tables and they allow food from outside restaurants (grab some Franco's pizza a couple doors down) - also until the Winter came, they had an awesome food truck parked out back (Yxi’S Arepas & Gordito).

Definitely a local favorite! Awesome place with great people and drinks. Darts and pool inside, along with tables and games, lots of outdoor seating, too. Bathrooms are in the basement. They don't serve food, but often have complimentary popcorn. Water cooler and cups available to help yourself. They do allow outside food. $10 minimum the credit cards.

Spacious glowing beer garden, welcomes dogs. Free popcorn. Plenty of local taps (double IPA to gose to grapefruit beer) and you can always get your PBR in a can. A food truck on-site. Beautifully diverse array of patrons, from those who do like PBR in a can to those who like their fruity fun cocktails to those who dig a good gourmet double stout. Locals and grad students alike adore this place. Don't come here on first dates or you will run into too many people you know. Do get Franco's pizza from next door and bring it in with you.

It's a good place to have drinks and relax. Ambience is good and there is no undergrad crowd of cornell.

This is a great bar near the west end of town with HUGE outdoor seating. The selection is great and prices on par with other places in town. It includes some nice bar games, too, and a popcorn machine. Classic!

really a 4.5 but when i had to think about whether i'd do 5 stars by rounding up or 4 stars by rounding down, i rounded down. this was largely because i think the westy is pretty great but it can get sceney at times and the bartenders can also get caught up in that. good selection of beer, like the popcorn, and the outside seating is a blast in warm weather.

Good beer selection from around the area. Summer is great with the large outdoor area. Inside can be crowded during the colder months, but what do you expect in upstate NY?

Always a good spot to hang out and have a drink. The outdoor picnic tables are why many of us come here.

Perfect in the summer for a drink with a large outdoor seating area away from the road. Has a decent indoor seating area with a pool table, dart board, and available board games. They don't sell food but they allow you to bring stuff from outside and they always have popcorn to snack on for free.

Great beer selection and generally friendly people. There is often a food truck operating on the grounds, or you are free to bring in food from other establishments in the area. They offer free popcorn and a water station. They generally request a $10 minimum for credit card charges, and there is also an ATM on site. There is a good amount of seating available both indoors and out. However, for someone who is sensitive to cigarette smoke, you may have a hard time here. Folks routinely smoke right outside both doorways, and the smoke proliferates the indoor and outdoor areas of the establishment.

Cozy bar, not too big. Drinks were about average price for Ithaca bars, nothing special. Beer selection was good and theyll sometimes do things like a beer competition. They have pool tables (free to my knowledge) and have free popcorn available from a machine inside. Can get a bit crowded though if that is or isn't you're thing.

Bar is for locals mostly but not too local. They now take cards and have free popcorn! They sponsor several sports leagues, the best being Ithaca Kickball. Can be stuck standing if they are busy in the winter. During the summer you can make good use of the seating outside and back deck.

Stop in on occasion to see an old friend. Beer selection is varied and wide. There is something here for every taste. Bartenders are friendly and make you feel welcome. Bar can get a little cramped when they are busy, so take the time, before winter sets in, to relax out side where there is plenty of seating.

Great place to hang out with friends. The ambience is fantastic both indoor and outdoor. The variety of drinks available is decent and it can improve. Availability of board games, dart board and pool table gives this place an extra edge over other pubs in the city. Plus they let you bring in your own food, which is nice. I would recommend everyone in Ithaca to visit this place.

I've been going to this bar for years, it's pretty great. Until they put "Closing Time" on at 12:58 on a Friday night. Don't serve beer until 1:00 if you can't handle people drinking it until 1:30.

Drinks are a little out there, you have to like floral flavors. Beer selection is good if small. While there, a dog pooped out back though and no one did anything about it which was a bit unfortunate.

The guys outside checking id weren't very nice, or welcoming. ( Not the Checking IDs part. They just basically didn't seem like they wanted to be bothered ) the bartender wasn't bad. I really ENJOYED that they had popcorn and BOARD GAMES available such as, battleship, monopoly, apples to apples, Yahtzee, trivia pursuit, clue etc. which that's something you don't see everyday.

I think I need to come back in the summer time? It just seemed like a regular old bar and the bartender was direct and not overly hospitable for a Friday night that wasn't busy at all. I wanted to like it, just wasn't super impressed. May have just been the crowd and vibe that night, seems like most people have enjoyed it!

Rude staff. They require a $2 slice of pizza per person, which is fine given the bizarre law. However, the slice is about a third the size of a regular slice and served cold. The neighbor pizzeria sells pies for $16, so the bar is making a profit on a forced sale of pizza, unacceptable.

I hate giving negative reviews, but our recent experience at the Westy finally merits one. We went there on a quiet Thursday afternoon and were the only table actually at the outdoor sweating (plus maybe 5 people inside). We had the whole place to ourselves, and were enjoying a pan of pizza from the place next door plus some beers and popcorn from inside. One of our party members is a mom, so she brought her well behaved son. He was sitting at our table quietly enjoying his chicken nuggets while we talked. That was, until the bouncer decided to very rudely inform us that we weren’t welcome at the bar because someone brought their kid. Now, this would normally be understandable if there’s an official rule. However, there’s a way to inform us that doesn’t involve being aggressive and insulting. We were also informed upon entry that we were allowed to be there with a child who’s supervised by their mom. And while we’d be happy to follow the rules, we’ll likely never return. Because a simple explanation of policy would have been OK, but stomping around the table while being insulting is not. I’d rather not experience a power trip from a bouncer who’s chasing away the only table of customers. We took our business to Liquid State instead, where we faced no issue. My condolences to the Westy’s management for having a fantastic outdoor seating area that’s tarnished by exceptionally rude security. (I should mention that the staff behind the bar were fantastic)

I left 27 dollars including tip and they charged me extra 3 dollars assuming I won't complain. Disgusting...

Used to be a viable enterprise, but no longer. Unless you're one of the fixtures that never leave their stool you will NOT receive anything close to service. Waited patiently as three other parties that came in after us were served and walked out. And this was early afternoon with nobody in the dump. Walked across State St. to Liquid State and had a MUCH better time. Better drink selection, better vibe and...SERVICE! Once upon a time I spent a lot of money at the Westy. Not anymore.

This bar is trash…. If you are Hispanic DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I was discriminated against!!! And my friend as well. The bouncer grabbed her aggressively and kicked her out! The bartender was racist and rude!

I used to frequent this place but last night I witnessed the bartender verbally accost a female patron and then had the bouncer forcibly remove her with no justified reasoning. This customer was not argumentative or confrontational and frankly was an uncomfortable situation for everyone there. No reason to have kicked this person out I understand if someone is belligerent or disruptful but seems like they will kick you out if they simply don't like you. It's a shame I liked coming to this place.

I rarely leave reviews, but my recent visit to this bar with friends for a relaxing Friday afternoon left me no choice. The bartender was shockingly rude and disrespectful, openly making derogatory comments about us right in front of us, making us feel targeted, possibly due to our skin color. Although I like the place, I won't be returning because no one deserves such treatment, especially when paying for service.
