Boil & Bake is loved for its delicious, fresh bagels, especially the salmon bagel (possibly "Santa Monica" or another unnamed salmon bagel) and the "New Yorker". Customers praise the perfect texture and fresh ingredients, but note that long waits are common due to its popularity.
Tip: Be prepared to wait in line, as it's a popular spot. The wait is worth it for the delicious bagels.

Bomb bomb BOMB!! Something about this place just tasted so fresh, even the olive oil is something we were commenting on! Bread was very fresh tasting. Line took a while but it was worth it. Food came out very quickly after we ordered. The servers were also very kind, made nice conversation with us, and cleaned tables quickly. We got the loaded lox and the OG and loved both. Can’t wait to go back and try some of their other bagels!
Boil and Bake is an absolute must-try in Costa Mesa! Their bagels are perfection—freshly boiled, perfectly baked, and with that perfect balance of chewy inside and crispy outside. Every sandwich is stacked with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the flavor combinations are out of this world. Whether you go classic with bacon, egg & cheese or adventurous with their specialty creations, you can’t go wrong. The spreads are rich and flavorful, the portions are generous, and you can tell everything is made with love. The staff is friendly, the vibe is welcoming, and it’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again. Easily the best bagel spot in the area!
Best bagel in SoCal hands down. Excellent cream cheese, lox, dill, capers, onion, everything. Ordered The Bella (open face) and Santa Monica (sandwich). A++!
Wow! In my opinion, among the best bagels locally. And having lived in New York for many years and loved the bagels there, the closest you can get to the bagels there. They also have excellent cream cheese, and great patio seating. The coffee and orange juice were great too. They also have wine, which doesn’t make sense to me at all bagel shop, but then again, I don’t try to rationalize wine, I am just happy to drink it.
Moved here from NYC and no longer long for NYC bagels. This place more than hits the spot. Amazing salmon and tomatoes.
The best bagel ever. I love their salmon one I forgot the name. And also the New Yorker. It’s the best 😭😭😭👍👍👍 it’s so worth it to be in line for an hour to get this , so definitely try it
The lox bagel here is different. It’s so amazing. The staff is so friendly and funny. I’m gonna try the other varieties of the lox next time.
I don't think there is a more aesthetically pleasing bagel than this place offers. We talked to the chef owner and love the story behind the sourcing (putting in effort to get local heirloom tomatoes). I found the bagels a bit too hard but with all the toppings it was really delicious.
Wow, Boil and Bake has become THE place for bagels in Orange County. They create their bagels in the traditional way of… you guessed it! Boiling and baking them! They are unlike any bagels I can find in the area and their inventiveness and quality of ingredients is incredible. They are known for their smoked salmon creations and their seasonal specials, some of which happen just for a day or two so if you see something exciting, come as soon as you can. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is a perfect combination with most of their bagels.
Best bagel I've had. And I've been to New York a few times. Just give this place a try. So so good. Ratios were spot on. They NEED a location in San Diego next.
Delicious, chewy, sourdough bagels. I came on a busy Sunday afternoon and the wait was over 45 minutes. Save yourself some time and order ahead online and pick up! I ordered "The heirloom" which was topped generously with cream cheese, heirloom tomato slices, capers, dill, lemon, and olive oil. Very quick service once you finally get to the register. Portions are very generous and filling. A lot of people say to come early or they will sell out-- but I came around noon and they still had all their bagel flavors in stock. Be sure to get some bagels to-go and enjoy at home.
First time at Boil & Bake and I wasn’t disappointed! I love Shirley’s Bagels and heard this was the next gen. Got a variety of sweet and savory options and loved every bite. The Heirloom was so bright & fresh (definitely go for the cheddar bagel if you’re into that kinda thing) and the Romeo + Juliet was perfectly sweet - the chopped basil on top really made this bagel shine. The Don’t Go Bacon My Heart sandwich ended up being my favorite, the pickled tomatoes were the star for me - seriously so good. I ordered soft scrambled eggs on the side and drizzled a little tapatio on top and it was ✨delightful✨ I can’t wait to go back to try even more off the menu!
Absolutely delicious. Bagels are soft in the inside and firm not tough on the outside. Like a NY bagel. Gourmet and unique flavors for the adventurous palate and elevated ingredients for the traditional breakfast lover. This is the M.F And pastries are as good as they look. Coffee is for real coffee drinkers, bold, flavorful, not bitter
Boil & Bake brings the New York bagels scene to Orange County! The bagels are thick and fluffy, crunchy on the outside moist and delicious on the inside. Bagel flavor varieties are a few, but the variety of breakfast sandwiches are abundant. My bagel sandwich was filling, hot and delicious but definitely on the pricey side. Service was prompt quick and the food came out quickly. I do wish the coffee offerings were more abundant but of you want basic coffee it is offered. There is no seating on the inside, mostly for takeout, but you can sit outside on the patio if you choose. I do think of Boil & Bake as a treat or a nice reprieve from other local frequented bagel shops in the area. Boil & bake brings the bagels, the attitude, and the price of New York to OC.
Definitely the best bagels in town! My husband and I randomly met the owner at a Target and went to check it out just based on how friendly he was. Impressed with the food & atmosphere! The little patio out back is super cute. The house-cured lox are SO good!! Everything tasted super fresh. 10/10 recommend :)
Amazing bagel shop in OC. Had been looking for quality bagels since the bagel shop in DTSA closed down and I think this place is about as close as it gets. Bagel quality is definitely top notch. The ones we tried were delicious and we loved every bite. Outdoor seating has nice ambience, and they have lots of convenient utensils.
As someone from New York I am always skeptical about trying new bagel shops (especially those 2,000+ miles away) but skeptics need not worry about Boil and Bake. The bagels are some of the most delicious I have ever had period. The food, service and atmosphere are all incredible. Cannot recommend Boil and Bake enough!! Thank you for helping this weary East Coast traveler break the jet lag!
One of the best bagels I’ve ever had. Possibly the best. Outside was crunchy, inside was soft and delicious. The ingredients are all farm fresh, and the salmon is cured in house. The pickled green tomato had me feeling like I was in New Orleans. This was more than a bagel this was food art to all 5 senses from a chef who cares about his craft. I will be back again soon. My second time I ordered the open face tomato bagel and a side of smoked salmon. My experience was just as great the second time around. My hat is off to the chef.
Best bagels I have ever had. The creative recipes, perfectly baked bagels, and the freshness in all of their ingredients… it’s incredible. I love the lox bagel and the heirloom tomato bagel — so tasty! No other bagel place will do!
Best bagels in Orange county. Great quality, great people. Dog friendly patio. Usually a line during busy times, but worth the wait. Get there before 10am. They are expanding soon! Bagel sandwiches, open face bagels, and bagels with jam options. Good OJ and coffee too.
As a professional chef, an avid baker, and as one from New Haven county these guys are doing it right. Proper fermented dough is something that the public doesn't understand, heck even some bakers do not. Reliance upon bacteria, and time rather than additives and yeast to develop flavors texture and structure is true commitment to craft. Are they new haven kosher bagels from Ami's in Waterbury CT? No but they are the next best thing
A little bit of a line but worth waiting for fresh and modern style bagel. Not many options and they run out fast so better get there earlier.
We tried this place when one of the directors at ours son’s school told us this is place had the best bagels in OC. She was right, everything I’ve ordered in the half dozen times I’ve gone has been great. The Lox is currently my favorite, the OG and MF also fantastic. The coffee is top notice, the staff is extremely kind and helpful. Love everything about Boil & Bake, it’s a weekly stop for us now
These bagels are AMAZING!! I got the heirloom (which was my favorite), the OG (which had a really delicious side sauce and sausage), and a plain bagel with cream cheese which as “plain” as that sounds was packed with flavor. The staff was so nice and offered up recommendations!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Boil & Bake in Costa Mesa, and I can’t stop raving about my experience! Even with a bustling crowd, the service was outstanding. The staff remained incredibly helpful, making a genuine effort to remember who ordered what. I was pleasantly surprised when the front staff brought my order right to me—talk about attention to detail! Now, let’s talk about the food. I indulged in the fully loaded Lox on the Cacio e Pepe bagel, and it was nothing short of a culinary masterpiece! The combination of fresh sprouts, radish, herbs, salted cucumbers, and a drizzle of Graza olive oil, all topped with fresh lemon and capers, created a flavor explosion that I simply can’t get enough of. Seriously, need I say more? Living in Orange County, I’m about a 15-minute drive away, and let me tell you, it’s worth every minute! I attempted to visit over the weekend, but the line was wrapped around the shop—definitely a testament to its popularity. Unfortunately, I had to work and couldn’t stay to wait, but I highly recommend making the trip. And don’t even get me started on the cookie! It was outrageously good, boasting a perfect crunch with just a hint of salt. I also treated myself to an iced matcha latte, which was absolutely delicious and refreshing. Parking is plentiful, which is a huge plus. My only wish is for a little more courtesy from fellow customers when it comes to personal space in line—it can get a bit cramped, and standing too close can be quite obnoxious. Overall, I adore Boil & Bake, and I will always support this fantastic business. This was my second visit, and I can’t wait to come back for more! If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by—you won’t regret it! 5 stars 5 stars great music play list 5 stars service 5 stars bagels 5 stars lovely cozy outdoor patio ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This place is so special- truly the best bagels I've had ever. If you want a bagel done right- with a chewy, blistered outside, and generously (i mean generously) seasoned, come to Boil and Bake. Not only are their bagels incredible, but their staff is super friendly and their lox is killer. Honestly, I cannot speak more highly about this place. Support this amazing local business!
Great bagels, and the sandwiches look good! I’ll definitely come back to try an open-faced. I don’t think I’ll come for bagels to-go again though. Price isn’t posted anywhere on the website or in-store, half a dozen bagels plus one tub of cream cheese will run you $27. There’s one line for both dine-in and to-go, which took an hour to get through. All that said, if I’m looking to eat an open-faced bagel sandwich on the patio with a coffee or OJ, I know where to go! Edit: had the Fresno chili cheese bagel this morning out of the bagel box I got yesterday, I can’t in good conscious leave a four star review for such a good bagel!
We love Boil & Bake. The bagels are delicious, unlike any bagels we’ve ever had, chewy and fresh. The everything bagel and the cheddar Fresno bagel are particularly good. The flavor combinations are inventive, and the ingredients are seasonal and first-rate. In the summer, try the Heirloom Bagel, with heirloom tomatoes that have the texture of fine silk satin and the most potent tomato-y flavor. We went in once to get an Heirloom Bagel but learned that the tomatoes were no longer in season from their supplier, and even the farmers’ market tomatoes were not delicious enough, so we will have to wait until tomatoes are in season again for that one. The lox is house-cured, and not too salty. The Nueske bacon on some of the bagel sandwiches is unlike any other bacon we’ve ever had, tender and thick-cut. Even the plain bagels with butter or cream cheese are exceptional. To top it all off, the people are genuinely nice, and have always gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. Boil & Bake is a great addition to the neighborhood, and we hope they’ll be here for many years to come.
This is a top-10 spot in OC, full stop. Locally sourced, fresh ingredients, and unique bagel recipe make for an outstanding product. Expect a bit of a line, but there is enough outdoor seating that I have always found a nice spot. Fresh squeezed OJ and horchata cold brew are favorites. Open faced options are always plated very nicely.
Been meaning to try this place and I finally did. So glad to try it. One of the best bagels I have had in OC. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Great patio to bring the dog, they play good music and the whole menu looks delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try something else. Definitely a new favorite breakfast spot in OC, will be coming here a lot more.
Perfect breakfast place! Absolutely delicious bagels. A place to meet up with a friend for breakfast with its cute patio or just grab a bagel on the go. I love the cream cheese, fig and honey and my husband orders the OG. Both great. Such a welcoming staff, too. Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
We love Boil & Bake! The bagels are the best we’ve ever had, and their sandwiches are creative and delicious. We had the plain with cream cheese, cheesecake for breakfast, and DGBMH. the cheesecake for breakfast was my favorite, the berry compote was to die for! You can tell they love this new venture and it really shows in how they talk about the food and treat the customers. We can’t wait to come back!
As a native New Yorker, having tried bagels from every deli, bodega, bagel shop on the island of manhattan & neighboring boroughs I can confidently share that this is hands down one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. The jalapeño white cheddar bagel had crispy & savory cheese, a slight jalapeño spice, a light / airy / fluffy inside and crunchy on the outside. Now onto the quality of the products because they must have some exceptional vegetable & fish vendors - delicate smoked salmon that melts in your mouth, herbaceous dill, salty capers, thinly shaved red onion, a drizzle of buttery olive oil, juicy heirloom tomato, lemon zest, salt flakes and deliciously smooth cream cheese. Would seriously drive an hour to get this place. Top notch.
Best bagel in OC! As someone who just got back from NYC and of course had a bagel there, this place SLAPS! Carlos, the owner, is super down to earth and is a master of his craft. The entire staff is very friendly and you can tell they strive for a great customer experience. My husband and I always crave Boil and Bake on the weekend-- it's truly the perfect bagel! Best texture and cream cheese... Salmon is perfectly cured and delish. Our favorites are the Simple Sam (don't pass on the jam!), The Bella, The O.G and MF! Our kiddo loves the Plain Jane. Guys, this isn't a basic bagel joint. Run, don't walk to Boil and Bake-- and get there early because it's got quite the line-- especially on weekends!
I would drive up from San Diego just for this bagel…and we have a go-to bagel place in SD already. The flavor and quality of the bagel and toppings is unmatched. I originally went for the lox (house-cured, delicious) but I would return for the sausage on the OG. There are different types of bagels in this world. These particular ones are on the thicker, sturdier side. They’re not going to squish into nothing and they’re not the type that appear soft but then feel like you can’t get your teeth through because the skin is so tough. These bagels have an excellent chew but remain tender. As I said, ingredients are exceptional. Loved the scallion cc and the attention to detail like the flaky sea salt on top of the fresh herbs in the Fully Loaded. Staying true to form (which is their respect for food), even their pastries were top shelf. Chocolate Chip cookie was delicious and the kouign amann was buttery vanilla heaven. I had doubts about the latter as it did not look like it was made properly (no classic 4-cornered swirls of croissant on top, the bottom was shiny but looked like one solid hard piece instead of layered croissant), BUT I stand corrected. The taste was phenomenal and the pastry was perfectly crisp and soft.
The New Yorker+ Chai Latte — A Breakfast Combo Worth Worshipping I came to Boil & Bake expecting a solid breakfast, but what I got felt more like a spiritual awakening. I ordered The New Yorker sandwich and paired it with an iced Chai Latte, and honestly? I felt like I was being gently hugged by New York City and the Himalayas at the same time. The New Yorker hits every mark. The bagel has that perfect chew with a crust that holds its own. Inside, you get a cloud of soft scrambled eggs, creamy melted American cheese, and the MVP—thick-cut bacon with a smoky crisp that makes you close your eyes and appreciate life for a moment. The side of spicy Kewpie-style mayo? That’s the bonus track you didn’t know you needed—silky, tangy, and just the right amount of heat to wake you up. Now, let’s talk about that Chai Latte. Most places give you a vaguely spicy milk tea, but this? This was balanced, fragrant, and warming. The cinnamon and ginger danced together like they’ve been married for years. It didn’t just taste good—it felt kind. Like a grandma somewhere blessed it before it was served. My friends ordered open-face bagels with lox and heirloom tomatoes, and every plate looked like it came from a lifestyle magazine shoot—except way more satisfying to eat. Final verdict: Boil & Bake doesn’t just serve breakfast—they serve the energy you want your whole day to have. If you’re in Costa Mesa and thinking “just a quick bite,” think again. Get The New Yorker, get the Chai, and maybe cancel your next meeting—you’re gonna want to savor this.
I absolutely love this place! There was so much flavor in the everything bagel, and it was so fresh! My purchase of Through the Garden included vegan cheese as an add-on. OUT OF THIS WORLD! In addition to the excellent quality of the produce and herbs, I appreciate the fact that he added vegan spread to his menu. Despite tasting a bit like hummus, I found the spread to be very tasty. We were very well treated by the owner, who takes the time to get to know everyone and came out to see how we liked the vegan cheese to get some feedback on its taste. Since he is a small business owner, he sourced the vegan cheese locally, which I thought was very thoughtful. I can't believe how nice he is! Don't miss Through the Garden, vegan or not, you won't regret it! While it's a bit pricey, it's worth it for the quality! Through the Garden is my favorite vegan option at the moment, but I hope to see more vegan options in the future. This place deserves a lot of praise.
Went for breakfast with my granddaughter on a recommendation from my son. I was not disappointed in my choice of the lox and bagel. It was delicious. My granddaughter had a breakfast bagel and said it was great. I only have 2 small suggestions. Need more than 5 bagel choices as some are quite unique. Also I don’t think honey for coffee should be watery with no flavor. Will definitely return !
Coming here is such a treat. The owner is wildly creative and cares deeply about where they source quality ingredients and products from. This is not your every day bagel from the grocery store or a corporate bagel shop, and that’s what I love about it. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been delicious in its own way, the seasonality, the unique pairings of flavors, even the coffee and deli selections are on point. You won’t be disappointed.
First time here. Showed up around 11am and waited about 15 minutes in line so I thought this place had to be good. I ordered the seasonal Peaches open-faced bagel and wow that was good! It can get messy though so have plenty of napkins handy. Dogs are welcome outside so I’ll have to come back with my pup. Highly recommend!
The best bagels!!! 🥯 I go here often during breakfast and lunch for a bagel sandwich & OJ. It never disappoints. The bagels are delicious and inventive. Carlos uses high quality ingredients as so much time and care is put into sourcing every single thing - and it really shows!!! The bagel, the toppings, the sauces - all a work of art! Whether you order to-go or stay and enjoy your meal on the beautiful patio, Boil & Bake is a must!!
Some of the best bagel sandwiches out there! They aren't cheap, and this place gets incredibly busy. So get there early on the weekends. I love the cacio e pepe and get it every time I go. So far I've tried the MF, the OG, and Don't Go Bacon My Heart sandwiches. You can't go wrong with any of them, but the MF is a must try. They keep their space so clean, and the quality is consistently great. Truly a gem in Costa Mesa ❤️
Friendly service serving up fresh bagels. I got an everything with cream cheese, it had a generous shmear and a pleasant chew. Outdoor seating is nice, though a bit loud from the highway.
I just found my absolute go to spot for bagels. Boil & Bake brings your ordinary bagel to life. The ingredients are mouthwatering, fresh, crisp!! They have it down to the T. Even with the olive oil! How do they get such great olive oil?!? And the bagels...they are what OC has been missing all along. Real. Good. Bagels! I will drive out whenever I want an honest bagel, no questions asked.
I have to say…. There is no bagel spot quite like Boil and Bake. Carlos and the phenomenal team here push the limits of what a good bagel should be. This spot doesn’t settle for a good bagel. Carlos inflects his love, passion and expertise with the bagels he crafts and ingredients he procures. While this is NOT your “traditional” bagel joint, I have come to believe that it is even better. Most bagel makers are either offering a good sandwich and a mediocre bagel or a good bagel and mediocre sandwich. This place doesn’t settle and pushes to perfect the classic breakfast sandwich with its own twist. The bagel has the perfect amount of crunch to fluff and I highly recommend everyone to come here.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE restaurant, there was a line out the door when we arrived and we are so glad we stayed. The atmosphere inside was awesome, great music, 90s and 00s Pop Punk jams, open kitchen so you can see the shop humming behind the scenes, the people working the cash register were quick, helpful, didn't ask for any clarification, just knew what they were about. The food is absolutely insane. I'm from a Jewish hub and have never had a bagel this good, its crunchy and chewy and has a wonderful crust. Super high quality ingredients, and the combinations of flavors in the sandwiches we got were superb. Every bite was different, but every bite was delicious. If you like bagels, and high quality bagel sandwiches, you NEED to try this place. It's worth the wait, even if the line is out the door.
Y he estado en Nueva York varias veces.
Bagel looks amazing. Everything great except the actual bagel itself. I saw in another review someone said bagel was on the tough side & unfortunately it’s true.. 7/10 Ordered to go so can’t say much about the rest. Except it was made quick! Picked it up in 8 mins. If the bagel wasn’t as tough this would be a 10/10!! Pricey at $20 a bagel
The hours on yelp and their menu are not the same. I would check that but if you come between those hours, you should be fine. The pastries, delish. The bagel fed me twice. It was like a salad and a bagel. It was kind of hard to cut through the bagel. I think I want to come back and try the bagel not in that form where it’s so high where I can’t cut through it and I can’t bite into it what the flavors were good the balance of the oil, salt, salmon and sprouts. I’m so glad I got to try this place. I definitely will be back. Cute decor. Ambience outside was great service was impeccable. She was really helpful and genuine. I don’t think I know a better bagel place I’d recommend. The bagels are good, but I went with her suggestion, which is try the original bagel. It’s very underplayed.
very good bagels! a lot of options. the only down part is eating it is a mess! at least for the bagels we got. we got the bella and the fully loaded lox. definitely recommend and i’ll come back to try the sandwiches.
Boil & Bake is a solid bagel spot with California flair. Be prepared to wait at least half an hour outside before you are able to enter because this is a very popular spot. I ordered the Santa Monica because I wanted a sandwich with salmon lox. I waited about 10-15 minutes for my sandwich to be made. It was tasty and delicious. It was priced reasonably as well. I can see why this is a local favourite. It is worth a 30-minute wait in line.
One of the better bagel spots in OC!! I'm from the east coast where bagels are usually really good so this spot was a hit. The bagels were light airy fluffy and delicious! I got the cheddar fresno with chive cream cheese. Knocked off a star because it was 8.35 for just 1 bagel. Kind of expensive for a bagel and cream cheese .
I love hipster bagels! Small menu but each item is very well made and absolutely delicious. You can tell that they use quality ingredients and take time to get the texture of the bagels right! Went with my colleague for a working brunch and we shared the New Yorker and the OG. Both were perfectly delicious breakfast sandwiches with big flavors cooked well. I definitely will be returning to try the lox!
Was really excited about this new place and everything we tried was tasty...loaded lox, smoked trout sandwich and LA woman special, which is cream cheese topped with roasted cherry tomatoes and squash. There's definitely lots of breakfast sandwiches, and not too many non egg options. Bagels definitely taste different, much chewier. Prices are on the high side...even for cream cheese veggie ones. Would like to try breakfast sandwiches next time.
The place was too loud. Between the construction noise and the loud music inside, you could barely have a conversation. The bagels are absolutely delicious but over priced. $14-20 for a bagel before tax and tip!!!
Only lacks indoor seating. There is outdoor seating. Bagels are excellent.
My son brought us here this morning. It's a nice place with outdoor seating. It's all bagels type sandwiches and the bagels are delicious. They have drip coffee, ice tea and macha for drinks. If you live bagels and lox, then give them a try.
Stopped in here on a Monday morning. It wasn’t too busy and we only waited about 10 minutes for our order. I had the OG on the jalapeño bagel. It has sausage, cheese and egg and was very good. I would recommend this place and would definitely return for the food. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Finally had the time to come and visit this bagel place after seeing a ton of reviews and reels on insta. We went there as a family for lunch on a Friday. Arrived around 12:30, there was no one in the store ordering and a couple of parties outside eating in the patio which is quite nice and airy. There is no big menu on the wall so we had to go to the register to see the menu with the small fonts under the glass. The manager or cashier or possibly the owner told us that they have menus by the entrance. He came across a bit aggressive especially given that it was obvious that we are new patrons and needed help. The menu is divided between open faced sandwiched and regular sandwiches and prices range from $10 to $19 with mostly around $14. I ordered the east village on sesame bagels (your other options are plain, everything, caccio e peppe, and jalapeneo cheese), my son ordered greens egg and ham, the other son ordered don’t go bacon my heart and my wife ordered the bob and Larry. She asked for eggs in it which we were told that’s not an option but then told that eggs can be ordered on side for $4 which she did. The outside was nice on a warm on a sunny day and one of the servers nicely cleaned the table for us. The side eggs arrived first, followed by the bagels. They all looked super good although not as packed as the pictures I had seen on insta however nevertheless the food was a solid 4 stars. I would give this place a 3.5 stars but given that’s not an option I will have to give it a 3 based on the service. I had half a bagel left over and was hoping to wrap in in a clean wrapper before putting it in the box, but when I went inside to ask for a clean wrapping paper, I was told that they don’t give wrapping paper out and they can only offer me a to go box which are readily available outside in the patio anyway. I don’t know why giving a piece of wrapping paper was such a big deal but it’s all good. Maybe I visit this place again in a few months when I have a craving for bagels and lox and hopefully will have a better experience and if so will update the review.
I had high hopes for boil & bake but I thought it was just OK. Before arriving to the shop we did not realize there is no substitutes or modifications. My sister doesn’t eat egg and could not get a bagel without eggs- thought excluding an ingredient wouldn’t be an issue but it was. I did like that they use all locally sourced ingredients.
Anyone who says this is like an NY bagel must have bumped their head (coming from a born and raised NY’er) That is not to say, the bagel doesn’t taste good, but the structure, consistency, and density is very different. They were a bit tough for my liking. The cream cheese was great, and the bagel sandwich was good. Pretty pricey per item. Relatively decent for what you can find in the OC area. Line was exceptionally long.
I appreciate what they’re doing here, since we don’t have good bagels in Orange County. That being said, I thought the bagels were just ok. They were too fluffy and bread-like in my opinion, not the right density. And the outside was stubborn chewy, not crispy chewy. You know what I mean if you’re really into bagel. Their menu looked creative and thoughtful, though I was just getting loose bagels ($3.50 each) and an 8 oz thing of chive cream cheese ($8 😅). I got there right when they opened so the bagels were fresh. I wasn’t a huge fan of the cream cheese especially for the price. It was whipped and a bit grainy. Not sure if they make it or what the deal is with that.
I find it completely inexcusable that they cannot fulfill an order. I wanted the bagel to be double toasted or extra toasted and have just a small amount of cream cheese. Yet the opposite happened.. not toasted at all and a slab of cream cheese! Very Disappointed!
I really wanted to like this place because I know a lot of their stuff is made in house. Unfortunately, I just do NOT get the hype. My boyfriend and I came here and it was almost $40 for two bagels and 2 (canned, not fresh) coffees. He ordered a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese, and the bagel was rock hard with barely enough cream cheese to cover the surface. I got a specialty bagel with figs and it was yummy, but again the bagel was very hard and difficult to chew through. We live nearby and drive past this spot every weekend and there is usually a line of 15+ people out the door, so if you're coming past like 8am expect a long wait, too. Overall, not awful, but for the price I expect a lot more.
The bagels are good, no one will take that away from you. But how are you about to charge me 6 bucks for a lemonade and give me 75% ice when your lemonade is kept in the fridge. Congratulations you ripped me off and increased your profits but you also just left me with an incredibly bad taste and ensured I don't come back. I'd rather go to bruggers for a worse bagel but at least then I wouldn't leave feeling cheated.
Small place, waited in line for almost an hour (on a Sunday afternoon), bagels looked great, but they were tough, which made it impossible to take a normal bite of their sandwiches. It was a mess. The sandwich lacked flavor, despite its generous and overflowing innards. Absolutely not worth waiting in line for, but not bad for the price.
Passable bagel restaurant with generic bagel toppings you'd find at numerous bagel spots. My low ratings are due to very avoidable, unusual and simple problems: cashier/owner refused to cut my ginormous "open faced" bagel sandwich; and I didn't get my "to-go" order bagged like every food delivery order I saw as I waited for my order. Seriously, being anal with a simple request to cut a slimy topped bagel is ridiculous since I witnessed the hypocrisy of the other bagel sandwiches being sliced in half for the other orders!!! The cashier/owner even suggested I get another sandwich, ( since cutting the open faced bagel proved to be almost sacrilege to suggest apparently). And they had the audacity to not offer cutterlery is a little cheap! Plus, from what I saw, their menu NEVER mentioned "open faced" bagels. Lastly, I'm not sure how 2 customers, who ordered after me, had their meals ready before my order, (same crew working on the orders.) And to top it off, they didn't bag my order, (like the half-dozen deliver orders I waited behind), or give me cutlery for such an expensive menu option, (I ordered one of their most expensive bagels.) This just cheapened the experience even more. I regret not simply going to the McDonald's on the corner to get breakfast in the first place. 😒 FYI: I remember the menu specifically mentioning they don't make alterations to their menu. So hopefully you don't have an allergy to one of their ingredients on their menu; and, apparently, in my case, become a slice of inconvenience on their part. Another place were people overrate the place!
I don't get the hype of this place. Service is nonexistent and the owner isn't even there to see what's going on. I was the only one in line and it took 5 minutes before any employee even acknowledged me. Seems like the employees couldn't care less about you. You can't even make ANY slight modifications to the order. A plain bagel with plain cream cheese is $6. The cream cheese isn't anything special. I can't really call this a bagel place - they essentially have specialty sandwiches using a limited variety of bagels and no flavored cream cheeses. They also don't take orders over the phone. For true bagels, go to Shirley's, Deli and Bagel Cafe, or Bagelmania.
The cost and overall customer experience does is not worth the food, albeit delicious food. Going for the intentionally pretentious vibe, which I can tolerate, but again the price alone isn’t worth it. Mix that with the strict ordering (think Seinfeld Soup Nazi) and just fine ambiance - would rather Shirley’s.
Super great tasting bagels. Really really good tasting salmon lox and heirloom tomatoes. I think they have the best tasting bagels in the LA/OC area. They also had really good zab's hot sauce. Unfortunately both times I've gone I've had serious stomach issues. The first time I thought maybe I had something else but the second time all I had all day was the bagels from here. Even tho the flavor is amazing it gave me really bad stomach problems.
ZERO STARS!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! TERRIBLE OWNER!!! Absolutely appalled by the customer service from the OWNER!! Went in for lunch with my 80 yo mother. We were excited about trying this place. First, they only had one type bagel left, which was disappointing, but didn’t keep us from ordering. My mom had the Sage and I had the one with figs. She wanted a decaf coffee, which they didn’t have, so she got a regular coffee. I had an iced coffee. Bill was $57.00 not including tip. You seat yourself with your beverages and flatware, they bring food. My mom’s coffee was ice cold, so I took it up and asked to just make it an iced coffee. I was told there was a difference in price. I guess they have to charge you for ice! I declined, and asked for a fresh pot. Then our food came. My bagel didn’t look that great compared to the description. My figs were not even close to being ripe and the bagel was very chewy. My mother’s looked delicious, and may have been, if she had been able to cut it so she could try it. Both of us tried to cut it into bite size pieces so she could safely chew it, but neither of us could cut through the bagel. So I went to the front and asked if I could have a sharper knife and was told they didn’t have any. I asked if the cook could cut it up for her, and was told they couldn’t do that. Mind you, this meal was $57, and my mom still didn’t have her hot coffee yet. I then asked if I could speak to the manager. Several minutes later, he came out. I calmly explained the situation. When I asked the same questions, do you have a sharper knife, No. Can you cut it for her, No. I started to get quite irritated so I said, Are you the head manager? He replied, I am the Owner. This shocked me! Not only did he refuse to accommodate my 80 yo mother who was in a wheelchair, but he was rude and condescending. He told me they are meant to be eaten with your hands. Then why, I said, do you provide a fork and knife? That’s for spreading, he said. I replied, So you expect my mother to pick this up with her hands, bite into it, and possibly break a few teeth because you, being the head decision maker as the owner, can’t provide her a safe way to eat this meal? Are you kidding me? He repeated, It’s meant to be eaten with your hands. There is no way I would eat it with my hands! There was no way anyone would eat this with their hands!! So I asked for a refund since my mother was unable to eat it and he was not willing to simply cut it for her, or provide me a way to. He refused. He offered to make something else, but that would not change the fact that you can’t cut through the bagel!! Never in my life have I had a problem when I had to complain about a meal. I hate to complain, and this had such a simple solution! He could have accommodated her in so many ways. But instead, treated me with such disrespect, I really was shocked. I was so mad by then, I lost my temper, which is VERY rare for me. I said to him, So you just charged my mother $57 for a meal that she can’t even eat when you have the ability to change that? He said Yes. That’s when I took my hand and pushed the plate into the air which hit the wall under the cash register and splattered all over the place. ( no one was near) then I said, OK THEN, YOU CAN CLEAN IT UP! Probably could have skipped the outburst, as it was certainly not my best moment, but you just don’t treat a paying customer like that!! Especially an elderly disabled one. He has lost my business and I plan to post this on every review platform possible. He doesn’t deserve my business! He should really be ashamed for the complete disregard and disrespect of someone who contributes to his livelihood. Without paying customers, he has no business. If you don’t treat your customers right you lose them. I don’t care how good the food is. Which wasn’t that great!
Great food , bagels are delicious . I want to love this place but I take exception that after ordering an open faced sandwich and a coffee for here they refuse coffee refills . My breakfast was nearly $27 . The for here coffee was served in a tiny mug , are their margins really that small they can’t refill a small mug with black coffee ?? This seems u reasonable . I won’t be back ! .
Owner is cheap and rude sells untoasted bagels then won’t even re make or give refund just try’s to argue with you and tell you to eat the bagel how ever they make it can’t believe it business will be shut down within a year
Go to Rise Bagels instead. It's nearby, they have a better menu and better SERVICE !! How are you going to manage a bagel shop when it's barely 12 PM and your bagels are already sold out. Even to the point where it says "until sold out" on your door. Maybe they should rethink their strategies if they sell out THAT quickly. Unless that's the whole point, but it's rather stupid and extremely pretentious
