the pork belly with plum shiso is memorable! this bite is my favorite bite of yakitori in SoCal. the remainder of the yakitori is mindfully prepared. well seasoned. ramen is not bad and overall a classic chill izakaya atmosphere. not only would I go back, I'm actively looking for excuses to take foodie friends who are into yakitori.
Staff are friendly and very efficient. We were seated right away. Food was delicious and ingredients were fresh. Broth super good on the ramen we had. Plus they are open late. We would be back again to try the other foods on the menu.
Love their Yakitori, fries, sashimi, roll, oyster, and much more. Every food tastes great and fresh.
This place hit the spot! Excellent ramen and the asparagus wrapped with beef belly went great with it. Total price for the two was only $22 so pretty budget friendly for great food made in front of you in this area.
Great Izakaya off of 55 x 405; Just 2 exits from John Wayne airport! Reserved on Yelp and was seated right away on a busy Friday night. It’s a small restaurant with a nice bar facing the skewer grill area. LOTS of choices from Yakitori (meat skewers), hand rolls, ramen, karaage, crunch roll, elote tempura (!), chicken skin and the list goes on… plus a whole lot of wines and soju available. We ordered a lot of skewers: all well-seasoned/ marinated. We shared a good size spicy tonkotsu ramen, broth is delicious and the kick is just right. They charge extra 75cents for every add-on (corn, mushroom, green onion, etc). Scallop/ salmon hand rolls start at $10 and specialty rolls start at $16. Service is fast and friendly. We’ll be happy to return to try the other items on the menu. More food/travel on IG: @i_therefore_conclude
Excellent ramen, karaage, and lamb. They have an extensive beverage menu with tons of sake options. They even have a $1000 bottle. They seem to care about service and food quality. The prices for the ramen were affordable. The other appetizers were also good. The staff is efficient and all work hard and are friendly.
We recently visited Gokumi Ramen & Yakitori in Santa Ana and had an outstanding experience. We tried three different kinds of ramen, each one absolutely delicious, with its own distinct and well-balanced flavor. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful, clearly made with care, and every ingredient tasted fresh and high-quality. Each bowl was perfectly composed, with the right ratio of noodles, meat, and toppings — generous portions that leave you fully satisfied. The restaurant is small but cozy, very clean, and beautifully maintained. The open kitchen allows you to see the chefs at work, which adds to the authentic atmosphere and shows how much attention and passion they put into every dish. The staff is friendly, efficient, and attentive, making you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you step in. They also have a great selection of yakitori, which we didn’t try this time but will definitely be our choice on our next visit. Overall, Gokumi Ramen & Yakitori is a true gem — a place where you eat well, feel at home, and can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!
We visited Gokumi Ramen for our first izakaya and yakitori experience, and it was a unique treat! It’s like a flavorful mashed of east tradition and small plate dining experience. We started with the Black Truffle Ramen and Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, and let me tell you, that broth was pure magic! But the yakitori experience stole the show - watching the chef grill fresh skewers while we enjoyed sake and appetizers was pure entertainment! Speaking of sake, their selection is top-notch. We enjoyed a glass of Cuvee Mosaic and Muryozan Junmai Ginjo, paired perfectly with Salmon Caviar Carpaccio and Crispy Tuna. The cozy atmosphere, filled with friendly faces and lively chatter, made us feel right at home. In short, a fantastic experience that left us craving more!
It was so yummy!!! I’m Japanese so I know Japanese taste. This is a very good place to eat Sushi and Yakitori. The Sushi and Yakitori were the best in California for me. It was very high quality food!!! The staff was very kind and helpful when ordering every time. Of course I’ll be back there soon!!! Thank you guys!
Excellent spot with a modernized Japanese vibe. The menu is wide-ranging, so I settled on the chicken hearts and spicy tonkatsu ramen—both were exceptional. Hospitality is great. Staff was friendly and attentive. Seems like the spot gets busy, so book a reservation or get on the wait list at the door. Highly recommended.
I've been craving yakitori and this spot knocked it out, The food was great and the staff was very friendly and we had a small chat on our travels to Japan when we went last year. I can't wait to be back whenever I'm in town
I ate here late tonight, and what a little gem in Santa Ana! You would not think that it was almost closing time - the staff were just so friendly and kind. I sat at the bar where I could hear banter within the kitchen and you could genuinely tell that this team was a fun crew. And as expected when staff morale seems high, the food follows suit. I had the Tonkatsu bowl at the top of the menu. Love the creamy soup base with the meat. So luscious, fragrant, and comforting. I had their creamy mango soda on the side as well. Super yum. The cute takeout garb was awesome too. Ambience A+. Would definitely recommend.
The food was phenomenal! We were looking for some late night bites and this was definitely the move. We had some very rich Ramen along with tasty sushi. Even the appetizer of gyoza, chicken kaarage, spicy crispy rice tuna we had was extremely tasty. Highly recommend coming back

The best chicken meat balls and tonkotsu ramen I've ever had in Orange County. A great new place to drink and have some amazing food. And my new go-to place for yakitori. If nothing else, it's worth visiting just to try their tonkotsu ramen. They use super high quality (Jidori) chicken, and you can taste it. The beers were ice cold, just the way I like it. Yakitori (Skewers): They were all good. The beef tongue and chicken meat balls stood out as my favorites, but the chicken skin, chicken gizzard, chicken thigh, chicken thigh and green onion, chicken heart, asparagus, mushroom, and green mussels were all absolutely perfect. I like that you can pick between salt and sauce (tastes like a sweet soy sauce). I also like that they paced the skewer delivery so I could eat them each when they were hot. Appetizers: The gyoza were juicy and flavorful in all the right ways. The tako wasabi was my favorite appetizer, with the beautiful sweetness of the octopus and the real wasabi. The grilled shishamo (smelt) were smoky and absolutely delicious; I love little fishes that I get to eat whole without worrying about bones. Tonkotsu Ramen: I don't think I've had tonkotsu ramen this rich since Ichiran in Japan. I absolutely loved it. If you aren't a fan of rich foods, you'll probably want to stick with the other options, but this ramen really is an experience worth visiting this restaurant for. Cons: I personally didn't like the vegetable croquettes as much. The parking lot was a little small; I didn't have any issues finding parking but maybe I'll have to park across the street next time when this place gets crowded? I'm a little sad that the bar has glass so I can't talk to the chefs behind the counter, but there was a lot of smoke coming off of their grills so my clothing definitely appreciates the glass.
Oh man. Was in town for a Jiu-Jitsu tournament. Haven’t ate In 24hrs. Once I was able to walked across the street from my hotel. And this place did not disappoint. The food is so fresh, ramen noodles are perfectly cooked it was chewy and the broth is so yummy. The a5 wagyu /chicken liver/ gyoza was absolutely perfect. Def recommend and will be coming back

The ramen was perfect. The noodles were firm, and spicy level was not over-bearing. Prices fall in-line with most restaurants today. Great restaurant experience overall. Will definitely go back.
The service was awesome, but the food was even better. My husband had the black truffle ramen and Yuzu Shio ramen. They were so good and filling! Would definitely be coming back if we weren’t from Oklahoma.
A little noisy but it’s that kind of place. Helpful staff and friendly patrons. Food was great.
Absolutely delicious food. I saw that this place was open after 11pm and went with little expectation. The ramen noodles are prepared perfectly. Chicken karage is super good. I try yakitori when I go to most Japanese restaurants and this place had probably the best yakitori for a ramen spot. Try it out! You won’t regret it, they prepare the food well!
Hands down THE BEST sashimi I have EVER had!! An excellent first exposure to yakitori as well! The staff are excellent, the product is amazing. We will be coming back to Santa Ana specifically for this gem!!
What a knockout! Perfect portion sizes, super high quality ingredients, incredible Yakitori, and service on point. I definitely want to come back here to try their A5 Wagyu plates.
Was so good I forgot to take pictures. But go check for yourself and you will not be disappointed
I attended the grand opening event of Gokumi and it was an incredible experience. The event featured 20 different sake tastings, with generous pours and an all-you-can-drink policy that left everyone feeling quite content. But that was just the beginning! The food selection was out of this world. There was all-you-can-eat yakitori, sushi, chicken kaarage, edamame, and so much more. The quality of the food was exceptional. It's hard to believe that such high-quality food could be offered in an all-you-can-eat style. The service was equally as impressive. The staff was attentive, friendly, and always willing to answer any questions I had. The atmosphere was lively and fun, with DJs spinning music. I will definitely be back and cannot wait to see what else this amazing establishment has in store.
I ordered the California rolls and they were so delicious .. customer service 5 stars nice and friendly. I will be going back.
Newly opened Japanese restaurant and quickly become the top one in my heart! It is open late and thus a perfect place for after party. The food here is extremely fresh, delicious, and amazing. Most of the yakitori I’ve tried in CA is not authentic and just so so but this one changed my mind. Recommend: 10/10. Couldn’t help to visiting here again!
First time here. The food was absolutely delicious. The servers were helpful and kind, and the atmosphere was perfect for a nice chill dinner. 10/10!
This place is amazing! The food came out super quick and tasted so good. The staff was polite and attentive. We sat at the bar and could watch the food be made in front of us. Definitely a cool little place to grab a bite, it was reasonably priced too.
Great ramen spot!!! Tonkotsu is very tasty and the spicy is even better! Tons of flavor 🤌🏽forgot to take a picture cause it was so good!
I don’t know why we didn’t know this place until now, but Gokumi serves variety of Yakitori, ramen, sushi and other Japanese dishes and Yakitori/Kushiyaki are so good. We are so glad to find this place. Yuzu shio ramen is just what I wanted. They carry Japanese craft beers.
The tonkatsu that I judge all other tonkatsu by. Service is top notch even on a busy night! We sat on the patio (overflow area) and not once ever felt neglected (thanks Yukie and staff). Walking distance from hotel.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The waiters are wonderful and very attentive, constantly checking if everything is okay. And the dishes are incredibly delicious. I highly recommend it
🍜 A Hidden Gem for Ramen and Yakitori Lovers Tucked into a cozy space that’s been cleverly and efficiently used, this ramen and yakitori spot punches well above its weight. From the moment you step inside, the welcoming layout and warm ambiance make it clear this is a place designed with care both in environment and what hits your plate. The tonkotsu ramen was a standout. It's broth silky and rich with deep flavor, perfectly balanced by a subtle kick of spice. The yakitori offerings were equally impressive, with a wide variety that let every diner tailor their experience. But if I had to name a winner, the karaage spicy chicken stole the show. Crispy, juicy, bold, it delivered on every level. You can see the kitchen staff’s attention to detail in every dish. Preparation is clearly a priority here, and the result is food that’s not only fresh and well cooked but also thoughtful and deeply satisfying. I would definitely rest here again.
I eat here at least once a week, sometimes two or three times if I’m in the area 😉 The food is so high quality that I’ve honestly become addicted. The staff is super professional, fast, and really nice. I’m a huge fan of Japanese food, and I can confidently say this place has some of the best quality in Orange County. It’s not overly fancy, but it’s incredibly well-made. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites are the Toro Nigiri Sashimi—it’s absolutely amazing! And from the yakitori options, I recommend their wagyu A5 items and all their chicken items are so delicious The tonkotsu ramen is one of my favorites too
A good place with japanese izakaya ambience to dine and chill. Good ramen and yakitori. Chicken thigh yakitori and lamb chop are must try items. Ramen soup base is impeccable.
Best Ramen and Yakitori I had outside Japan. Friendly staff and service, good beers. You might need to practise patience before getting a table, better to make a reservation. Loved it, can warmly recommend
Gokumi is my favorite yakitori spot in the OC. I find every excuse to go here anytime I pass through. Quality of meat is great, cooked to perfection, service is always on point even when they are busy. They also have a nice selection of sake.
Fantastic place. Highly recommend for an authentic Japanese yakitori izakaya experience.
Decent ramen, flavorful yakitori. There can be some wait to get a table but the food came out pretty quickly. Went there for dinner
Rating this place is an easy 5-stars. The food was amazing, the staff was polite and friendly, and the place was very small but clean and well-kept. I had a chicken ramen bowl and gyoza (known elsewhere as pot stickers), everything was super delicious, even the noodles tasted fresh (not packaged). The prices weren't expensive at all and well worth the amount of food. They do have a menu outside, so you can get an idea before you go inside if you'll like what they offer. I'm not in the area often, but I'll absolutely go back. You should try it. Highly recommend.
Good food and good costumer service. I would recommend coming there alot.
Its so good ramen , you should definitely try it. 5 star %100
UMAI! Their yakitori is authentic! Service is fast and waitresses are friendly and attentive. The interior is simple and clean. And they have a special beer you cant find in most Japanese restaurants - the Suntory premium malt. This place is a gem. If you're reading this, you're only a few dishes away from being a long time customer. Thank you, Gokumi 🙏🥲
Delicious, well-priced ramen in this cool spot. Service was excellent and the beer was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. One thing: the spicy tonkatsu ramen was not really spicy, so ask them for some more chilli if you like a bit more fire 😀
I like their oysters from the yakitori menu, and they have my fav takowasa 😍 And also good ramen and delicious sushi! I can't recommend raw oysters because they have too much sauce in them and you won't be able to taste their perfect flavor. As for everything else, I highly recommend it!
The chicken broth ramen was very rich and tasted amazing. You can tell it is a delicious bone based broth cooked with love. The noodles and toppings were also excellent. Will definitely be back!
I was extremely hungry and asked my husband where should I go to eat. He said it was up to me. Then I said Ramen. He said ok. He said no spicy. I was like oh ok. Then we arrived at this Japanese restaurant. Upon arrival, we got excited and goʻt to seated. Then came a sweet, kind, welcome lady. I thought she was Korean. When I asked, she was Japanese. Her name is Yukie. I am Khmer Cambodia 🇰🇭 and my husband is Chicano american. I called him Mexican, haha. He loves it anyway. Back to Yukie, she also speaks good, decent Spanish. Bueno, I would say. Love the vibes, I think his name was Juilano. Oh gosh, I can't say his name. He was friendly like Yukie. Sorry if I spell his name wrong. Both were smiling and joyful and happy. Juliano has a good vibes a young, soon to be RN. We are impressed with the atmosphere
Amazing fresh cooked cuisine i am very impressed for overwhelming dedication i've seen here to customer service. This gives everyone in hazel green, a new place to explore different food culture
Me and my gf got the tonkotsu ramen. Decent portion ramen. Noodles are good. The chasu slices are good. The soft boiled eggs tasted AMAZING. Wish I knew so I could order another. Atmosphere good too, if you sit at the bar, you can see them prepare the food. Good atmosphere. I definitely will come back.
Our new ramen place for the family, even my picky boy liked it! We had the Tonkatsu and Shrimp Ramen. The meats were perfect grade, noodles just right, as well as the broth, 10 out of 10. The goyza by far the best we've had. We went on a Friday night. We didn't have to wait but I can see why it can get packed. Have to try their yakitori and rolls next time!
I had no clue what I was walking into. That said... I'm so happy I walked in. The food was phenomenal, the chefs were amazing, the service was stellar, but the food.... the food was unbelievably delicious! Please don't be afraid of taking a chance and trying the special hearts! Ridiculously good!!! My compliments to the team! Thank you for making my last night in SO CAL incredible.
Great ramen, service was great also. Only wish they had better non alcoholic beverage choices.
This is my go to restaurant when I am in Irvine on business. It can get busy, but the food is authentic, has excellent flavors and a great selection of options. I am a big fan of yakitori and this is some of the best I have had outside of Japan.
Absolutely amazing in every way! No notes whatsoever. Some of the best food I've ever eaten. One of the best atmospheres. The best service around. They even stayed open an hour late so four new friends could talk and have a good time, one of them being the server. If you're thinking about it, go here! You will not be disappointed. If I lived in the area I would eat here every week, no question. Just a shame they don't have a location in Colorado so I can experience it more.
This little gem was super busy Friday night. We were happy they stay open late on weekends because we had not realized how late it was when we were trying to go get dinner. They have amazing ramen, sushi, and yakitori. I think its one of a few places that offer all 3 of those things at a japanese restaurant, and the quality is there in each item. They dont have a lot of fancy sushi rolls like other places, but their minimal offerings allow for freshness and ultimate flavor. It was a tight fit in the restaurant becuse they were packed in tight that night but it made the experience very cozy. My husband and I have enjoyed a few date nights here, as it is always a hit.

Our holiday outing had us in this area (Tanaka Farms), and we were quite famished after much walking around in the cold! Glad they stay open later, joined the Yelp waitlist while about 20 minutes away, and still had to wait maybe another 10 more minutes for a table (they are so busy!). Located in a plaza next to other restaurants, but this was the most packed spot from start to finish. Many customers continued to wait just outside the restaurant. Available outdoor seating but it was chilly tonight, so we wanted to dine indoors. Excellent boiled dumplings, Yuzu karaage (fired chicken) had a strong albeit pleasant yuzu taste, was crunchy and still tender inside. Got handroll spicy tuna and yellowtail - also excellent and quite generously filled. Tako wasa also very tender, just the right mix of soy and wasabi. Pork wrapped onigiri (grilled rice balls) with mentai (fish roe) or ume (pickled plum) I have been searching for a Yuzu shio (yuzu salt) ramen and finally found this to have the best flavored ramen. I added wood ear mushrooms and half poached egg to mine. Noodles to broth ratio are just the right amount, i often end up with extra broth at the end, and not enough noodles. The rest of our table each got the Tonkotsu, Spicy Tonkotsu, Shrimp ramen and Torigara Ramen (chicken broth). The pork slices were very tender, with a slight amount of char (no bitter aftertaste) . Each ramen dish had a very different flavorful broth, and you can add on whatever you desire. There is a separate Yakitori ordering menu. We got chicken thigh with onion, chicken skin, cartilage and chicken oyster - each skewer was cooked perfectly , meat was tender, chicken skin had a slightly sweet glaze on it. Attentive and courteous servers. Lots of parking.
The line wasn’t bad, but the wait was loooong—like contemplate-your-life-choices long. Still, totally worth it when you’re vibing with your buddies and the drinks start flowing 🍻. ✔️ Highlights: - IPA is solid, crisp, and keeps the convo going - Sake is smooth and does what sake does - Ambiance is cozy and perfect for long hangouts 🥢 Food recap: - We went wild and ordered nearly all the yakitori. Some were hits, some were forgettable—but hey, memory gets fuzzy when you’re buzzing 😄 - Ramens: just okie—not the star of the show - Chicken yakitori: decent, but again, it's a bit of a blur Overall: You don’t come here just for food—you come for the hangout. It’s a laid-back spot to chill, sip on good drinks, and lose track of time with your crew. Would I come back? Absolutely.

Absolutely.
Cozy Japanese restaurant located in a business park. I ordered 6 different food and they all tasted good as expected, but the Yakitori and Hamachi roll stood out. The Yakitori was perfectly grilled and the roll had distinct flavor with the right amount of spice and complemented with their house wasabi. Just a comment on the grilled yellow tail in teriyaki … while it tasted good, the sauce can be overwhelming. My initial choices were not available because because the menu had been updated compared to what I saw online but I still enjoyed my meal and definitely recommend this place.
Stopped here for dinner the other day! Ramen broths were flavorful but not too heavy. Only gripes I have are how the portion was rather small for the price and the spicy tonkotsu ramen was not spicy at all despite how red it looks. Great service, but was a bit put off by how the cups for yakiniku aren’t changed out after each group leaves. Would love to come back to try something other than the ramen next time!
Ramen’s good including noodles and the broth. My 3-years-old finished her portion by herself without any complaints at all. Beef tongue is fairly good, worth a try too.
One of the few places that stay open late with very good and friendly staff. I enjoyed the sashimi with the sake. The ramen was average but the atmosphere here is pretty chill.
We ordered 10 dishes ad shared. Very tasty overall, although 1 or 2 dishes were not what we liked. But maybe that is something that our tastebuds are not used to eating. A short description of what is each food on the menu could be handy for people unfamiliar with Asian food.
Ramen was delicious. Our server was amazing. Pork belly on the asparagus skewers was under cooked so I had to ask for it to be cooked more. They gave me a new skewer but now both asparagus and meat were under cooked. Oh I was forgetting, another server asked us to move tables in the middle of our meal. Not cool. Overall, because of our amazing server, we will give another try next time we are in the area.
Not a bad spot for quick bite. The ramen bowls are smaller portions than usual and the yakitori is pretty good.
Just mediocre ramen - the shrimp wasn't overcooked which was nice and the broth was decent but a little disappointed by how average the noodles were Seated at the bar and could see into the kitchen where someone was preparing the yakitori

Food: The food was pretty good. We got the Tonkotsu Ramen and Shoyu Ramen and they were good. I chose 4 stars instead of 5 because I believe the portions weren't big enough for the price, but the taste was pretty good. Service: The service was okay. We had to wait a while to get help and catch the attention of the servers. The atmosphere was nice, it was pretty lively and jpop was nice to listen to.
While Gokumi is open on Thursdays, be careful; the head chef isn't in so their entire sushi menu is unavailable. Don't make the same mistake I did. Lots of hype reviews got me interested, but maybe the quality was off today. The yakitori, while tasty, left an oily/salty feeling in my mouth. Similarly, the spicy tonkotsu ramen had flavor but also felt a bit fatty. My throat felt uncomfortably dry when I left the restaurant. The service was mediocre; servers didn't enunciate the yakitori dishes as they arrived so I was left guessing at what each skewer represented. Overall, a tasty restaurant but with some hiccups and areas to improve.
The yakitori was decent - beef tongue and chicken heart were standouts. Ramen wasn't great, tonkotsu was kind of bland and watery. They are strict with parking - I saw an attendant checking cars
Tried this place because I saw good reviews of the broth . I chose the spicy tonkotsu . And it was so bland and not even spicy . No flavor in the broth . The egg tastes weird and the meat feels old .
Was really looking forward to going here so close to my hotel. Website indicated $ 8.50 for 700ml Sapporo draft, definitely in my wheelhouse. No where near 700ml., more like 500ml and price on menu was 10.50. Complained obviously. Then had seafood Ramen, without the advertised mussels and fish cake and no taste, so disappointed. Then had lamb chops on barby, super salty. Gave feedback to very nice male waiter, but the 4.6 rating is not justified. Need to rethink what they are doing.
I know inflation is hurting businesses and many people, but I couldn't believe I would pay more for Truffle ramen and get 1 piece of tiny chatsu pork when I can get two tiny pieces with other ramens at a cheaper price.. just boggles my mind.. Even the pictures on the menu and on here showed two pieces. They didn't even try to accommodate my request. The food is good though. Just not worth the price though anymore.
Seated fairly quickly at end of bar. Drink and appetizer ordered then never saw waitress. After couple that sat next to me had ordered and completed meal I gave up. Completed my meal a few doors down. Too bad. They were recommended by my apartment complex next to it.
MOST OF THE DISHES WAS TOOOOO SALTY AND NO FLAVOR. ALL THE SKEWER WAS TASTELESS AND ALL I TASTE WAS PROPANE. I AM NOT A FAN OF PEOPLE USING PROPANE AND AIM STRAIGHT AT THE FOOD. THE SAUCE FOR SALAD WAS TOO SALTY. THE RAMEN SOUP WAS TOO SALTY. THEY DONT OFFER FRUIT DISHES OR DRINKS. THE OCTOPUS WAS TASTELESS. THE STEAK WAS TOO CHEWY.
I have been this restaurant for around over 7-8 times. It’s my first time to sit in the bar. It’s very uncomfortable to sit there. The bar chairs are very high and there is no place to put your feet. The service become worse and worse. You may find this in other reviews. It usually costs over $100 for two people—- relatively highest price in OC, if you focus on yakitori. But the kitchen environment seems not good enough.
