"Hidden bar" in the basement of the Hoxton. Carries a distinct speak easy vibe with semi private booths, two bars, and a music stage. Service was friendly and the drinks were good. Was a great spot to drop in for a one and done before dinner.
Very cool concept bar , downstairs within the Hoxton Hotel. Nice rotating special cocktail menu with very intricate cocktails ! Waitress was helpful in guiding me through their extensive menu of >50 cocktails (which can easily overwhelm any body). Very limited bites (steak or fries) but the steak skewers were delicious !!! Definitely more of a drinks place - don’t come here hungry. The vibes were lively and enjoyable.
Amazing rooftop bar close to Chicago downtown. We tried many cocktails, were perfectly made. It is sometimes difficult to find place at poolside bar on weekends
Excellent ambience, very moody. If you want it quiet and relaxing, choose a day where they have no special events or live music going on. They nailed the speakeasy feel. Drinks were spectacular, menu was unique and well executed. We ordered a Pornstar Martini, Mary Pickford Cocktail, and Flora Root Mocktail. There was another spirit-free/zero roof drink with lemon ginger and yuzu. This was a great place to catch up with friends because the noise level was minimum (again, no event this day). Would make an excellent date night spot as well.
For those in the West Loop area looking for a chill low key night cap, Lazy Bird is the place to be. Very reasonable prices with many options to choose from. Highly recommend reservations, but you may be able to get lucky with walking in. Never know with Speakeasys!
It was definitely one of my favourite places that I visited in Chicago. One of my colleague who has been here a couple times brought us here. It’s almost a speakeasy. You enter through the main entrance of the hotel and then go through long corridors and stairs to reach the tuck bar in the basement. The atmosphere was very refined and had an air of elegance. They have an extensive cocktail menu but I was looking for a specific Gin based drink that they did not have. When I asked my bartender, if he was able to make it, he readily agreed, and it was spectacular. It was an elder flower gin based drink. We didn’t really eat anything, but I think they do have food. All my colleagues loved their drinks as well. The best part was that the prices were very reasonable, given the quality of drinks and the ambience. I am definitely going to be back again whenever I am in the city and bring more people here.
This is my kind of bar! Lazy Bird is a modern and stylish speakeasy-style bar hidden in the basement of The Hoxton hotel. The decor was impeccable, the seating was comfortable, and the conversation level here is just right so you don’t need to yell. True to its speakeasy nature, the bar is a bit hard to find. You first have to enter the hotel lobby then walk past the desk on the right to get to the staircase. Walk down the stairs and down the hall to find the entrance. Once inside the menu is extensive with lots of innovative cocktails. The bartending staff was helpful and friendly here. Overall very glad to have stumbled across this bar! Excited to come back and try more drinks next time.
This speakeasy bar strikes the perfect balance between chic and relaxed vibes, making it ideal for a cocktail date or a night out with friends. The ambiance is stunning, and the location is great, surrounded by multiple bars. I only tried the Negroni, and it was expertly crafted. I would definitely return!
I’ve been here twice and I had a blast both times. It’s such a cute dimly lit and intimate spot. The staff is great - great service from serves when you’re seated. Eduardo is the best! The music that they play is mostly hip hop which I like and then of course they have live music from the band. There’s a 90 minute limit on tables, but you can get added back into the queue once your time expires.
cute lil bar in the basement of hoxton hotel. that being said, it’s a little hard to find - the entrance is on green st (and not where google maps has the pin). also, beware of poor cell service - we almost lost our spot on a nearby restaurant waitlist because i wasn’t receiving texts in real time tried the mary pickford cocktail, which was not impressive in size, but definitely impressive in taste. it was a strong drink that was fruity and delicious tasting without being too sweet. also tried the fries, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. i loved the aioli dip they came with would definitely want to come back sometime, as their menu is fun and full of cocktails, their bartenders and staff were superb, and the place is fantastic for photos
I love the vibe of this bar. It’s a little hard to find, it’s located in the basement of The Hoxton hotel. The drinks are amazing, but my favorite part is the old school hip hop music they play. The service was good. I need to come back when they have a band playing.
Low key, great drinks, cool vibes. It is dark and pretty quiet, Not a place for a large group looking to get wild. And there is little to no cell service down there so if you're trying to call or text it may not work. The drink menu is 52 pages but they highlight the best ones on the small menu. The gin fizz is highly recommended**
Vibrant speak easy with excellent atmosphere. Love this place! Sit at the bar for full menu and no waiting time.
10/10 across the board! Love the insane cocktail menu here. There is something for every palate. The vibe is dark and moody and romantic for sure- great date spot! Has live music on weekends too. Bartenders are knowledgeable about drinks too
I would give this place a thousand stars if I could! The customer service I received on my birthday was truly the best! Since my friends couldn't join me, I decided to celebrate here by myself. From the moment I stepped in and mentioned I was celebrating solo, they seated me at a table and treated me like a VIP. Even when others who were curious about why I had a two-seater table all to myself, (because they wanted to sit) the hosts and servers never hurried me to vacate the table..other places they would have rushed me and here they didn't and I truly appreciate that. The host at the front door and the servers here were fantastic, frequently checking in to ensure I was enjoying my special day. My server (Stephanie) was awesome and amazing! The service was outstanding! This place really made my birthday special, and truly remarkable and I can't wait to come back. I highly recommend it to everyone! Just be sure to arrive early if you want to reserve a table, as it gets busy around 10 PM. I managed to leave right as it was getting busy and crowded , but I definitely had a great time and plan to visit again soon!
While staying at the Hoxton hotel we visited Lazy Bird on a Sunday night but was very quiet night so we returned the following weekend on a Friday night. Nice crowd nice band. Managed to come up on some seats.
Great cocktails and amazing, knowledgeable staff. They keep a menu of dozens of classic cocktails and some really good house creations. Atmosphere is very relaxing. They're willing to talk about bottles and spirits in addition to sampling if you're learning, which is fantastic. Perfect to grab a drink alone or on a date. My bartender was Krista and she was absolutely wonderful.
Had such a great time here! The cocktails were perfection and our server Paige was so sweet and attentive! She really made the experience a memorable and I will definitely be back!
Went on a Saturday night with my girlfriend and had a good time. Stephanie our sever was great. She recommended most of our drinks. Busier than expected and music too loud for us, could barely hear each other. Props to the severs who hustle and somehow make it work!
We had the best time!!! We took 5 people to this incredible speakeasy bar and had the best service. Paige was great, she asked us several questions to determine the most tasty drinks personalized to each person. What a great place for friends and family ask for Paige, she is wonderful!!!
Had a great time, food was good but the bartender Jackie was the best. Will return again!
My absolute favorite bar in all of Chicago. Beautiful interior and knowledgeable bartenders that can make just about any drink you can think of. Big fan of the space after they’ve added a second bar and expanded the place a little bit.
A place that is usually packed as soon as it opens. Stopped in for cocktails on a early evening bar hop around the area. Plenty of Signature cocktails to choose from. Ordered a banana split Old Fashioned and a watermelon drink that I do not remember the name of. Some of their cocktails are listed on the website but you have to stop in to view the full signature menu. Did not try any of the food but the drinks ordered were very good.
What a pleasant surprise. Loved the whole experience, and I’m glad Guillermo was part of it. He is well-versed in bartending and has exquisite recommendations. We Will be back.
When you're grabbing a quick lunch break salad, ambiance and service aren't a big deal. But when you're enjoying a rare treat of high-end cocktails and quality time with friends and family, it's so key. Lazy Bird succeeded on those fronts in a major way. The space is lovely, with a neat historic speakeasy vibe and comfortable seating. It was dark but not too dark, and the music was just the right volume to allow conversation. Their excellent cocktail menu and quality selection of alcohol impressed everyone in my party, and the prices seemed totally reasonable for the quality. Everyone really enjoyed their drinks and their truffle fries. But best of all was the pleasant and thoughtful service. I'm only able to have at most half an ounce of alcohol at a time, and there wasn't anything on the menu I could personally eat, but my tiny order was treated with the same attentiveness and pleasant service as those of people ordering multiple drinks and a bunch of food, and it just made for a fantastic experience. They don't accept reservations, but to us that was actually a bonus, as we were all coming from work and weren't totally sure if we'd all make it there at a certain time. There was no wait at all!
Staff, drinks, and vibes were all on point. I had to wait for my party to arrive yet Taylor and her staff were understanding and accommodating. Our server Paige was super attentive and all of her suggestions were easily the favorites among the table. Don’t think I’ve ever had a mezcal cocktail like the ones I had here. If you’re looking for a couple of cocktails before/after dinner COME HERE.
Maddie, Marko, Nick and Francisco are a dream team!!!! Top service and the creativity on the cocktails, made this place even more intriguing. Highly recommended!! Monday night is not a let down!
Had an amazing time at Lazybird this past weekend! My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Chicago and decided to check out some spots in the west loop. Drinks were spectacular!! Really loved the featured spring cocktails. Our server Stephanie was amazing and really took her time to guide us through the extensive menu. Lovely customer service and cool space.
This is such a cool vibe. It's cozy set up is like a speakeasy with comfy sofas and great music. It's a small spot so get there early if you plan to go on a weekend. The prices are around $15 per drink and they're not very large so be prepared to drink alot if you really like to get toasty. The drinks are specialty cocktails and very delicious. Just open your wallet and have a great time.
Cannot recommend this place enough. We randomly came here to see the live music Thursday night and it became our favorite place in chicago that we came back Saturday night. Drinks were on point, live music was 10/10
Really cool cocktails bar in the city. Located on the basement of the hotel. You walked past the reception and you'll see the on the left lead you to down stairs. This bar so small so comfortable excellent vibe so cool decor. Lazy bird offering awesome live jazz band and superb cocktails. No table service just order drinks from the bar. Servic was excellent as well.
My gal pal and I stopped by here for a post-happy hour night cap and it was the perfect end to the night! The cocktail menu has so many options - not all of them have raspberry garnishes, we just happened to choose that way - I really think there’s something for everyone here. I got the Mary Pickford and we shared a Grasshopper as a drink dessert. Both were amazing but the best part of our evening was definitely our server Paige! She gave us recommendations and was SO fun and helpful. Go for the cocktails, but stay for Paige!
We stopped in randomly on a holiday weekend around 9 and lucked into seats at the bar immediately. We basically camped there until closing. After a couple rounds ordering from the menu, we left it up to Annie for the rest of the night. Her knowledge runs deep and she was great at getting creative with our vague requests. There was live music and it got loud/busy, but we had a great time. If you’re looking for great drinks and a fun atmosphere, this is it.
Came here on a Friday and had to wait in line to get in, which is to be expected anywhere in fulton market! Atmosphere is very unique and speakeasy vibes. A great place for live music and a great cocktail. I think this place would benefit from being a tables and chairs kind of bar but appreciate the standing room for people to dance and converse. That being said, my group was able to find a table to sit at briefly despite it being very packed!!! I highly recommend my neighbor taro (sub mezcal with vodka if you don’t like smokiness).
We randomly stumbled across this eclectic bar, and were immediately impressed. A great drink menu, friendly bartenders and a good vibe. Our actual drinks were fantastic - will definitely be coming again! Clearly a favorite of many, we came on a Wednesday and it was packed by 7:30 pm!!
Been here a few times, and always enjoyed my visits. Drinks are great and the bartenders are as well. Micheal was very friendly and answered any questions we had. He made great drinks. Although it gets busy, we never feel rushed here. Sometimes the have live music, which is a plus. It's a small place, so I recommend coming early.
This venue gives speakeasy vibes although there isn't a secret password or message to enter. It's below the Hoxton Hotel and if you get there early, you can easily grab a bartop or seat from the list. The drinks are pricey but good! They have live music on the weekends. It's a vibe. Get here early though because the line builds up. Although there was a consistent flow of people in and out. When you're done, you can come up to the bar of the lobby of the Hoxton and they usually have a DJ as well.
You can imbibe at Lazy Bird and chill, spectate, or dance; a perfect spot for friends with different vibes. Cute date night spot, too. Located in the basement, Lazy Bird is not lacking on anything. Cocktails were perfect and we were greeted by the bartender with a handsome smile. The music was great and some people got up and danced a few times to different songs. It was completely fun, very diverse, and chill. Love it.
My boyfriend and I went for cocktails last night before his birthday dinner, and I'm so happy I picked this place. The atmosphere is gorgeous and very chill if you're there early. Khi was our server and he was great with recommendations, knowledge of the menu and was on top of it when we needed anything. We'll be back for sure and hopefully on a night Khi is working! Thank you lazy bird!!
Lazy Bird is a lovely cocktail bar in West Loop. The service is excellent; I had two people checking in on me throughout the evening and they were both intimately familiar with the menu. As for the drinks: both cocktails I tried were solid, albeit a tad pricey. Beverages will run ~$30 a pop when you factor in tax and tip. This isn't breaking the bank by any means but if you're looking to drop sub $20 a drink you might want to try Gus' or another hotel bar. And even though the setup is nice, it's not a pretentious place. I wouldn't suggest walking in with flip flops, but I saw multiple people in shorts and gym shoes. The ambiance, wait staff and beverages make this a worthwhile stop when in the West Loop. I'd go back
Lazy Bird is a chic cocktail bar inside the Hoxton Hotel! The live music mixed with the decor and beautiful people makes this a vibe on a Friday night. I was visiting and had an amazing time! I will most definitely be back!
Cool spot for to grab a drink in west loop, it would be perfect for a winter bar spot. They had a wide variety of drinks (the menu was an actual book that had over 90 pages). I went with the Paloma and was not disappointed. I would go back again when the weather is a little cooler.
Lazybird – A Speakeasy Experience Like No Other! 🍸✨ Lazybird is the perfect spot if you're in the mood for an intimate, basement-style speakeasy with a great vibe. Fantastic decor. The drinks here? Hands down some of the best in Chicago! 🏙️ The Blue Cheese Martini (extra dirty) is an absolute standout – one of the best we've ever had. The vodka infusion really shines through. If you love bold flavors, this one’s for you! 🍸 They also customize drinks to your liking – we asked for an extra tart margarita, and it was spot on. Other drinks on the table: grasshoppers, pornstar martinis, beers, old fashioned. The service is fantastic, making sure you get exactly what you want. 👌 While the wine selection is a bit lacking, it’s mostly about the cocktails and assorted liquors here, and they do it really well. The place is bigger than it used to be, which is a nice touch, offering a little more space without losing that cozy, intimate feel. We visited on a Tuesday, and luckily didn’t have to wait for a table, but I can see it getting crowded fast on weekends, so plan accordingly. No reservations needed, but keep in mind the place can fill up quickly. Live music only on weekends. 🚶♀️ There’s just one bathroom, though there’s an additional one on the ground floor, so you won’t be stuck waiting for too long. 🚻 Overall, Lazybird is a great choice for a night out, with amazing drinks, stellar service, and a great atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out! 🌟
Love this bar, but not gonna lie I wish it was still a hidden gem. The bar now is packed 5 days a week, but I can see why, the bartenders are so knowledgeable and make some amazing cocktails. They have a menu of 20+ cocktails to choose from, but where this bar really shines is when you tell them what you like and they make you a custom drink. I asked for a smokey old fashioned and they whipped me up an amazing drink with some good Japanese whiskey. Come here early or it'll be too packed it's hard to get in, but you'll be in for a good experience, especially when they have live music.
Lazybird is a hidden gem that provides an intimate, basement-style speakeasy experience like no other. The inviting ambiance, paired with stylish decor, creates the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. This bar boasts an impressive drink selection, solidifying its reputation as one of the top spots in Chicago. The cocktail menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, offering a variety of options to suit different tastes. We savored a refreshing Paloma and an Army Navy, both expertly crafted and reflecting the bar's commitment to quality mixology. It was evident that the Old Fashioned was a popular choice among patrons. We visited on a Saturday night around 7 PM and were fortunate to grab a couple of stools at the main bar, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the lively atmosphere while enjoying our drinks. It’s wise to plan ahead, as the bar can get busy. While no reservations are required, expect longer wait times for tables as the night progresses. The live music on weekends adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. Our bartender, Guillermo, truly enhanced our visit. His expertise in crafting cocktails and his thorough explanations of the menu made a significant difference. I would return just to see him again; he’s a remarkably talented mixologist who knows how to create an unforgettable experience. There’s one bathroom available, but an additional one on the ground floor helps minimize any wait times. In summary, Lazybird is the ideal destination for anyone looking for exceptional drinks, attentive service, and a fantastic atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Fun and jazzy place to have drinks. I say drinks because you won't be disappointed with their cocktails and presentation and will want more than 1. Ask for Chris, even when we went rogue and asked him to surprise us, we were impressed with what he served. If you don't like to wonder, they have "small" menu of 52 classic drinks with a little history written on where it originated.
I Recently visited Chicago with my husband from California. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Lazy Bird. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was incredible! live music, a cozy vibe, and truly amazing drinks. But what really made our experience unforgettable was our server, Stephanie. She took such great care of us all night, constantly checking in to make sure we were good and going above and beyond with her service. Stephanie gave us a full rundown of the Zodiac-themed menu and made fantastic recommendations. Every drink we tried was spectacular. Even though she was clearly very busy, she never once forgot about us and always made us feel welcomed and valued. We will absolutely be coming back to Chicago, and Lazy Bird will be at the top of our list to visit again. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
I visited Lady Bird for the first time with my husband and I can’t wait to return. When we first arrived the manager ( Max I believe) was very welcoming. We were sat promptly and the band was fantastic! I just wish I had later reservations to enjoy the set longer but we’ll be back. We had a slight mishap but thanks to the professionalism of the manager it was handled well and I truly appreciate such great customer service. I highly recommend.
We hosted a bachelorette party for a group of 14 at Lazy Bird and couldn’t have asked for a smoother experience. We planned everything months in advance, and the event coordinator was incredibly helpful, especially in assisting us with the hors d'oeuvres order and making sure everything was gluten free. On the day of the event, the entire staff went above and beyond. Our server was attentive, the hostess was so sweet, and the manager made sure everything ran seamlessly. Even though the bar was packed, the team stayed on top of everything, and our table was always well taken care of. We had originally booked our table until 10 p.m., but the manager kindly let us stay as long as we wanted since there were no other reservations after us. That thoughtful gesture meant a lot, as he could have easily split the section to accommodate more guests but instead made sure our group could really enjoy the night. Lastly, it was also important to note that the performer, JENIPHER JONES, really made our night. She gave our bride her 10 minutes on stage where she danced the night away (for 10 minutes) as Jennifer serenaded us with her beautiful voice. While the catering menu wasn’t the most flavorful, the portions were generous and perfect for sharing, exactly what we expected for the occasion. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would absolutely book another event here.
Fantastic cocktail bar! 10/10 amazing drinks would recommend. We got there at 10pm and the music was mot too loud and the vibe was great. Had a couple of the special cocktails and they were awesome.
Nice cocktail bar with an interesting menu, plenty of seating, and speakeasy vibes. Didn't adore the cocktail I received, but would try more options next time we're in Chicago.
Very cool speakeasy library you with beautiful decor. Drinks were recently made priced but shots are expensive! Bartenders were very good and made quality drinks I don’t recommend parties more than 6 because they let only two people in at a time
pretty good, we liked it but staff was not as friendly as I would’ve hoped. will be returning though!
Espresso Martinis were quite delicious! But the deliciousness comes with a price! 70 bucks for 3 of them hahahaha! Definitely would go back for a nightcap. We were there for an hour and there were two tables that were empty for reservations… they were empty the full time we were there. I’d say that part of the workflow at Lazy Bird needs some work. The reservation management is not great. Anywho, besides that - drinks all looks amazing.
Attended on a Thursday evening when a live band was featured. Band was amazing and covered different RnB classics. Environment was classy, intimate and sexy. Had a reservation (strongly suggested), but once host found out we were celebrating birthdays, she moved us to premium seating directly in front of band. Mocktails were tasty too! Highly recommend.
Really cool looking bar for either date nights or group events the vibe of Lazy Bird will fit the occasion. I only had a few drinks at Lazy Bird as $17 a drink is a little pricey for me but still delicious drinks, hidden speakeasy feel and my server knew what he was talking about. He recommended drinks for my friends and I which we all ordered and enjoyed. Will be back in the spring!
Weird entrance - the obvious logo and door on the street are not accessible. Instead there is an instruction to go around the building and search for the entrance. Not a speakeasy vibe at all though. Not a traditional cocktail bar, but a party bar with cocktails. No bar seating. Super crowded, club atmosphere. I had to adjust my expectations. Drinks are average.
Lazy Bird is such a cute, unique spot!! I was there with a group of friends and we all really liked it. The band was fantastic and they played music for all sorts of taste and yet they did a great job all around! We got there around 8:30pm on a Saturday and there was a very long line and it took a very long time for us to get in. Once we did get in, it was very crowded and it was hard to move around and to get drinks from the bar, but I can see this being a great spot when it is not so full, if you get there early to guarantee a spot or if you have a table. There is a lot of great drinks options, they were a bit pricey (about $17 for a cocktail) but it is expected at such spots and there is no cover charge. They do not have a coat check.
Un buen bar de cócteles con una carta interesante, muchos asientos y ambiente de bar clandestino. No me encantó el cóctel que me sirvieron, pero probaré más opciones la próxima vez que estemos en Chicago.
This speakeasy-style bar has a really classy, relaxed feel. The cocktails are excellent, and it’s a great spot if you want a quiet, elevated night out.
Eh, nothing creative or special about these cocktails but they want over $20 for them. Bar staff also talking aloootttttttt behind the bar which is just off putting.
Very disappointing, over crowded, loud and way too hot. Not up to par with other speakeasy's.
I so badly wanted to love this place. Small speak easy in the basement. Unfortunately, even at 7:30 there is wait for a table. I’ve been there three times but would not go back. We sat down and felt like we had an immediate clock ticking once we sat down after waiting for an hour. So many great places in the city, I’d go somewhere else. I feel for the staff but they weren’t the friendliest.
I read the other reviews and had sort of high expectations. Like others said it isnt really a hidden gem anymore. Expect a line to get in. The space is smallish and the tables pretty much are all reserved and you cannot sit down there. Policy might be diff during the week? But either way, dont expect to sit haha. The bartenders were very knowledgeable but I felt the "extensive" list was very classic but basic cocktails with a few that stood out. Didnt seem very creative to me. Smoky drinks are really smokey which I was surprised at. Crowd seemed a bit older and I would guess most are in their 30s or older with a few late 20s people here and there. Good for if you want to try a speakeasy but Id honestly try supper club for more space and better dj if you want high end classy bar look with more space. To get into the space you need to go through the lobby/first floor restaurant and go right after revolving doors towards back/elevators and take the elevator or stairs down. Last time I went it was kinda smokey in the staircase...
I stopped by this past Friday night. I’ve been here a few times before and the drinks have always been GREAT! Food: N/A Drinks: I had a sidecar and it was good! Service: There was a (new) $10 cover charge. There was a stand/easel advising the new cover charge. After paying and entering, everything seemed unorganized. When the question was asked why/when etc regarding the cover charge, the answers varied from “ I don’t know” to “yesterday” to “the other day.” Ooooooook no answers were the same but $10 cover- cool. It’s not the fee but the principle. So before there was no cover, drinks were already up in price/includes service fees etc but there was good music/bands playing. I then noticed no one seemed to be charged after 12am. So apparently there is no fee after 11:30pm. Don’t quote me on it, again communication was struggling. So I’m sticking to the website of just seeing $10 8:30pm-11:30pm on band nights. Once inside, tables were full and/or reserved but the man (I was told his name was Matt and he was the manager) at the door (glasses/locs) was so unorganized, a bit rude, told folks where to move to, where not to stand etc but wasn’t trying to add any solutions to the problems. It was like where do you want us to go if you aren’t trying to accommodate (now) paying guests? There was an employee at the door/table named Andy who was cool and that was about it. Atmosphere: Chill, music, band. I enjoyed it in the past due to being able to hear a bit of R&B, a splash of Hip-Hop and a great mix of that with a band. This past visit had me so underwhelmed. The band was hardly playing and when they were on the mic, it was as if they were doing sound check or didn’t rehearse. Now with there being a cover fee, if that continues that may be an issue. Final Thoughts: I know nothing stays the same forever but I truly hope whatever shift this is goes up and not down. Again, the drinks were still on point! Don’t replace Bartenders. Everything else was a bit underwhelming. I will return and hope the door situation is better as well as customer service and organization. I love good music.
The layout of the space and the amount of people they let in is not ideal for guests wanting to enjoy live music. I definitely couldn’t see and could barely hear the artist that was playing through/over the crowds. Drinks were just fine.
Immaculate vibes. I wish the server had explained the seating policy more clearly so my party could have enjoyed its drinks while seated. I calmly tried to explain this to a server who responded to me sarcastically and with a fake cheeriness, which frustrated me. If you don’t interact with a rude server you will have a great time.
We went to Lazy Bird on Saturday after a wonderful dinner, it was 6 of us, 3 couples, I previoulsly look and found this place and thought it would be great for after dinner cocktails and live music, on the website it says first come, first serve, there was no where on the website that states you can stay only 90 minutes, and that is what we were told, which we only were able to see 30 minutes of the band, we were very very disappointed and because of that I would never suggest this place or be back, not to mention we spent a lot of money buying drinks and then told that we only get 90 minutes. I would not recommend this place.
The cocktails at $17 are overpriced. You can find more impressive cocktails elsewhere for what Lazy Bird charges or cocktails of the same quality for a more reasonable and fairly city-standard $13. So what you're paying for is the neighborhood and the ambience -- a darkly lit basement speakeasy-type spot. But you can also find that elsewhere for less money, and you'll likely have an easier time reading the menu. Also, you'll likely get a better bartender experience. The seating is odd. If you go, you're better off sitting at the bar.
Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure we got sick after being here on a Friday night. The basement-style room doesn’t seem to have appropriate airflow for the number of people packed in, and I even remember thinking about it while we were there—just didn’t notice any proper ventilation. Now that we’re both feeling sick today, it really stands out. On top of that, the service wasn’t great, which made the overall experience pretty underwhelming.
Touristy fish in a barrel for people in the hotel. Elevator music. Reserved seats for no one coming. Loud. Overpriced drinks. Don’t recommend.
I’m genuinely sad to be writing this, because Lazy Bird used to be one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The last two times I’ve visited, the once-intimate speakeasy atmosphere has been completely overtaken by overcrowding. Even with a reservation and a table, the space was so packed that you could barely move—let alone comfortably enjoy the experience. Seeing the performer was nearly impossible, and getting a drink took far longer than it ever should, especially for a venue that prides itself on craft cocktails and live music. What was once cozy and refined now feels more like a cramped club, and honestly, the crowding bordered on feeling unsafe. It’s hard not to wonder how this many people in such a tight space is even acceptable. This critique comes from a longtime patron who loved Lazy Bird and brought friends here often. I hope management takes a hard look at capacity, service flow, and the overall guest experience, because what made this place special is getting lost—and that’s a real shame.
I have been to lazy bird a couple of times and have had a great experience. However my most recent experience was very disappointing, the wait staff did not take our drinks promptly and we had to wait a while. My friend made a reservation for her birthday and the staff kept reminding us that our reservation was almost up 30 minutes before it actually ended. The worst part was that my favorite drink, corpse reviver 2 wasn’t great.
I want to give lazybird 5 stars, but last night I was there celebrating my friend being cancer free. I had hyped up the place to her, but then she had a run in with one of the security guys (had hair locs and glasses on). He was so rude to her while trying to tell her to go in the opposite direction from where we were seated. She tried explaining to him she just went to the restroom and wanted to return to where we were seated but he won’t listen and rather yelled at her. I mean come on now that was so uncalled for and unprofessional. Other than that, the music was great, service wonderful, and atmosphere always a vibe.
This is for the extremely rude, pompous, mean, and presumptuous main door head manager/bouncer last night loudly laughing at and mocking my friend. The actual servers were very nice and the music was lovely.
Your bouncer refused to accept an official government ID & disallowed entry because it was on an Apple wallet. The State of Illinois officially rolled out this method of identification a month ago, it would be a good idea to have your staff educated on this. Ironically he said he would have accepted a picture of an ID instead… which is hilariously easy to fake by comparison…..
We used to be fans of Lazy Bird before our experience with the rudest avoidant-but confrontational server Stephanie & unprofessional manager Matt. We were with a table of docs who live in the neighborhood after a work event. The server had really poor communication & ran our tab w/o checking in with us 1st. When we addressed it with her, she immediately gave us attitude & refused to come to our table. She abruptly cut me off mid-conversation, lifted her hand to my face & said, “ I don’t need ro know anything, I just need a new card”. We never got confirmation that she deleted our initial bill. She claimed she supposedly “sent her manager over”. We had a shy tall black guy with braids come by, who never introduced himself, but bashfully asked if he could close our tab. My friend was confused & said, “we already closed our tab”….since Stephanie didn’t have the decency to actually come to our table to communicate that she deleted the last transaction & needed a new card, My friend was under the impression we already paid & he didn’t understand why a new male server was now asking us to close out our tab. The guy stopped by our table 2x awkwardly sans introduction, just asking how we were doing but never once explained the logistics of the situation. When the bar was closing, they asked us to pay our tab. We were confused & l asked for our server, who still never came to our table but rudely talked AT us from a distance & said that she sent the manager over twice. We were like, oh that guy was the manager? He never communicated that with us. So we closed out & I said, “listen, if you are the manager, you should consider having a conversation with your staff about proper communication & customer service, because none of that was ok. The server Stephanie was making sarcastic remarks to the table saying , “ oh you guys are such greatttt people, etc” It was so juvenile, unprofessional and nasty that the security guard had his eyebrows raised & REPEATEDLY apologized to us for her behavior. I approached the “manager” to ask for his name, he said it was Matt, and to “go ahead and contact the hotel & restaurant to tell them about what happened” I have a room full of witnesses including bouncers & staff. If you looked at the camera, you can see who to ask about what transpired. I’ve been in industry for 29 yrs, and have NEVER been treated this way. You have now lost local docs in the neighborhood who used to be regulars & recommend their friends to come here. I work in medical device now, and will let everyone know about the unprofessionalism & will not spend a single cent here if I can help it. I cannot wrap my head around how a manager witnessed a server disrespect & mistreat her table, and not do anything about it….what has happened to customer service these days?! The fact that the bouncer heard the whole thing & apologized profusely with raised eyebrows speaks volumes. Clearly he is the only ethical person.. Check your cameras, you will see the lack of interaction compared to what the server Stephanie claimed “happened” Stephanie, if you don’t like serving people or do not understand the concept of customer service, you’re in the wrong industry. Don’t take out your anger or whatever is going on in your life on your customers. Lazy Bird is too nice of an establishment to have bad apples like Stephanie & a manager like Matt spoil your reputation. Because believe me, if you keep them around without correcting this behavior, we will not be the only customers treated this way.
