Stunning food that lets the ingredients speak for themselves. Whoever is in charge of the menu loves food for what it is, rather than what the trends are, and it shows. The meadowsweet pannacotta with plums poached in wine was one of the nicest desserts I've ever had. Can't wait to return. Edited: returned twice since, and it was equally as stunning. Venison with celeriac and hazelnuts, and rhubarb sorbet with meringue and blood orange cream were highlights of our recent visit. Absolutely love this place.

Ah, what a lovely evening. Nice cosy space but socially distanced and plenty of hand sanitizer available. The ways for everyone to stay safe were carefully explained, as was the menu for the evening. Every course was delicious; every single one. The menu is simple, but that means there's nowhere to hide if the flavours don't marry or fail to pack a punch. Absolutely no problems there! ☺️ Great value and lovely chilled atmosphere. We would definitely go back again. Congratulations to the owners on making it to their first anniversary too. I would certainly recommend everyone tries this little diamond in Chapel Allerton.

I very rarely review anywhere. I had an amazing meal here, perfect for a special occasion or a great night out with friends. Will definitely visit again, really beautiful food and incredible service.

The set menu here was fabulous. It's normal, when being served a variety of interesting and innovative items, to find one to be less than your favorite. That's not the case at Hern in my experience. They were all my favorite.

Total little gem of a restaurant. Every dish on the tasting menu was superb. Low key non pretentious and still classy!

Quality dining experience. Akin to a supper club. Would enjoy a longer sitting but given the intimate nature of the restaurant understand the need to keep things moving.

Amazing food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. A great little bistro where the choice of what you eat is in their hands. The Valentines menu was superb, including a vegetarian terrine which was so delicious. The wine selection is special too. And it’s dog friendly!

Hern is always a delight and my favourite restaurant in Leeds. Their unique and ever evolving menu has delicious dishes I wouldn’t even think of myself. Alongside a great selection of wine, wonderful atmosphere and lovely staff, this makes it the perfect dining experience that everyone should experience for themselves. An unforgettable hidden gem in Chapel Allerton. One of the best meals we’ve had in Leeds. We went on Friday with friends and chose the seven-course set menu. Every dish was built around seasonal ingredients and felt thoughtful and refined without being pretentious. The atmosphere was relaxed and unrushed, the waiter was knowledgeable and professional, and you could tell there was real care behind every plate. It’s perfect for a quiet celebration or just a treat-yourself kind of night. Book early – it’s small and rightly popular bistro.

An absolute gem in the heart of Chapel Allerton! My husband treated me to a birthday dinner at Hern. We were welcomed with great service & fantastic food & wine. Hern is clearly a labour of love - high quality ingredients expertly chosen & prepared, accompanied by an impressive wine menu. I highly recommend Hern, it’s foodie heaven!

Incredible experience at Hern. catered to my Dietary requirements with different substitutes that didn't make me feel left out from the experience. fresh and high quality produce used really made for such a delicious menu. Highly recommend to anyone gluten free or veggie If I could give more stars I would!!! Staff where super friendly and well informed on each dish really adding to that fine dining atmosphere. Will definitely come again !!!

Honestly love going to Hern, the food, service and atmosphere is always perfect. The hosts are very knowledgeable in the food and wine. The atmosphere makes you feel as if you’re dining with friends making the small, intimate space comfortable.

We had a fantastic evening at Hern. The food was outstanding and full of flavour. We also really enjoyed the wines and drinks on offer. Service was excellent. We look forward to coming back!

Nice atmosphere and good food. Also had lovely white wine and soft drinks. I had the Sauvignon Blanc which was perfectly chilled and had a lovely zesty taste and the Hibiscus Soda. As a coeliac there was no problem for them to accomodate my gluten free diet. Portions just the right size. Will go again.

Small select restaurant which combines informality with great quality. The menu changes and based on seasonal ingredients...the wines are outstanding and the service is good with explanations. I always look forward to visiting this restaurant.

Lovely place with delicious food! It's so cosy, but simple that you can just focus on having a great meal. You can see that they care about what they do and they are eager to share their knowledge. True gem. We absolutely loved it!

Attended this fine establishment for a meal out with my beautiful girlfriend. Celebrating 5 years of our relationship and 5 years of Hern. The food was delicious as always. The Beurre Blanc was notably exquisite.

Out third visit to Hern and just as good as ever. One of those times when repeat visits confirm just how good the place is on every level. The food is fab, the staff friendly, the wine always amazing, and the atmosphere warm and not at all pretentious.

The food is incredible. We went for the short set menu and everything was cooked to perfection. The staff are very knowledgeable and the service excellent. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Hern never disappoints. Once again I ran out of superlatives each time the plates were cleared. Was there twice in 8 days and I couldn’t fault a thing. Even the non-alcohol options are home made and delicious. Didn’t miss wine at all, they were so good and dessert was divine.

This was my third visit on 31st August 2025, and once again, everything was unbelievably good. We enjoyed a 7-course meal with wine pairings for around £100 each. The food was exceptional, and the service equally impressive.

We had a great meal there last night- our daughter booked it but didn't realise Wednesday nights were a la carte as the rest of the week is a tasting menu. Aside of that the food was superb from a limited menu but nothing disappointed us- we chose 4 different starters and shared between us with us all ordering our own mains- all satisfied with our choices. Desserts even though full we shared 2 desserts and a cheese course- again all went down well. Good drinks selection and the service was exceptional even though the front of house guy was just covering as the owner was away on holiday. Small restaurant with just 18 covers and 3 staff- 2 in the kitchen and the front of house guy- we were never left waiting for anything- they all were certainly on the ball. For the quality it was a good price- £60 pp Inc drinks and gratuity. Definitely be back for the tasting menu

Amazing, we've been 4 times now. Service is amazing, food is insanely good and it's just a great place to eat. Highly recommend.

The best meal I've had in ages. It was a set menu which was fantastic from start to finish. The wine pairing was excellent. The service was brilliant. Everything was just perfect. I can't wait to go again.

What an incredible place. Beautifully cooked, seasonal menu with the most wonderful wine pairings to run alongside. Everything felt so thoughtful and intentional. Excellent service from friendly, knowledgeable staff. To top it off, it is also incredibly reasonably priced. I think about the time I had at Hern regularly and I cannot wait to go back for more.

One of my most favourite dining experiences. Had the vegetarian short menu with the wine tasting suggestions and it was all brilliant. From the first minute when we were shown to our table, to the end, it was a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. As soon as we walked in, you just knew it was going to be good. The service, food and wine were all excellent.

This was a great find! We enjoyed the vegetarian tasting menu and were sufficiently full. The main (pictured) tasted slightly undercooked, and the restaurant was rather warm, but the service more than made up for this and did not detract from our evening. Would return!

We went here with high hopes but didn’t think the experience matched the reviews so far. The two times we called to book we were told rather abruptly (rudely!) that there were no tables. We thought that was a good sign at least that the food was good. It was generally ok, main meal very small and the service felt rushed - you really do literally have the table for a set time. Whilst the price is ok for the four courses, you inevitable end up buying wine and the best part of 200 pounds later for two people, you’d think the service would be a little better - waitresses didn’t do a great job of pretending to be interested in talking to customers. Black Market food in our view is much better, as is the service. That said, it may have been an off day at Hern as clearly there’s many reviews giving it 5 stars.

4 of us ate at hern as a postponed birthday meal out we had the set menu and had all 4 courses. All the food we had was delicious the service was great excellent wines and nice atmosphere. Only reason I have not given 5 stars is that the main meal portion size was very small - it was all really tasty but would happily pay a little more for a bigger portion size. I am sure we will be back !

Great set menu, delicious food, good service, and not bad value compared to other set menus in the city. Natural organic wines really interesting...though I think they should break with the ideology and have some more accessible bottles/wines by the glass.
