We found this place last week and really loved the fast service and great burgers. We also picked out some cupcakes to take home with us and the selection was amazing! Going to try the red velvet cupcake next time 😋

Solid food and a self-service fixins bars means I can make a burger that's 80% vegetables and half a mile high. Go early and the wait isn't so bad; the complimentary chili and beans are good enough to occupy you if it's busy.

Always a happy sweet escape from Tyler. Everyone who goes here seem to have smiles on their faces like they’ve known each other and seen each other at Butcher shop all the time. I was taken for dinner by my son and daughter in law for Mother's Day. I got a bacon cheeseburger and tasted both the french fries and onion rings. It was all delicious. The veggies for the burgers are fresh and self serve. They also have beans and chili that are also included on veggie bar. Although we only got cookies I kinda got the feeling by the long line at the dessert counter that that was the real draw for many customers

Great food and a lot of it for the money! The chicken fried steak and sides were delicious, but way too much for me. I had to get a takeout box. The prices aren't bad, usually $10-20 per person, but they do have burgers and stuff for less. Very friendly staff and plenty of seating. The desserts are various and tasty.

When you come here, you won’t leave hungry, in fact, you’ll be wondering your life decisions coming in there in the first place. When you first walk in, you’re greeted with all the sweets in the world along with a menu that could go on for days. I HIGHLY recommend the spicy chicken sandwich, oh my god. When you’re done eating, make sure you leave room for dessert, because oooof!

Love that everything is fresh made here and that they let you put all the veggies you want on your order. They have homemade ranch to witch is a big win for me! And there bakery has amazing cupcakes!

We drive a 20 minute drive to come purchase some of the best pies and cookies ever. We love this establishment and continue to come patronage because of the service the employees give us every single time we come in. We are always greeted with smiles and hellos. We feel very welcomed here. Even when the place is super busy and people are everywhere we still feel we get served at a timely manner. They have a bar where you can get beans and chili and all the basic condiments to make an awesome dinner. Plenty of seating which was nice. The restaurant had a perfect temperature. The music was easy on the ears. On Thursday's they have a special where you buy a burger and get fries and a drink for free. After eating, we went to the cake and cookie counter and ordered a red velvet cake and the 2 people at the counter were very nice and accommodating. The burgers themselves were bigger than my hand and this is definitely a place I will go again. As an update: Nothing has changed from my original post. Everything was fantastic and the employees still have a friendly demeanor about them.

We always leave satisfied. Everyone in our family and friends group is able to find something that they like. The bakery just tops it off. Be sure and try a Russian Rock cookie! This place was great. Burgers were huge and the deserts were amazing. The employees here are supper friendly and made our first experience one to remember. We definitely will come back when we are in Longview.

The entrance is a bit odd as it looks like you are going into the hotel at first, but past that there is a good amount of parking. As I first walked in, it was not what I expected, but queued up to order and the staff was friendly. We had to get to-go as we had our dogs with us. The entree dishes and the bakery are apart, and as you order you seem them prepping the food behind the cashiers. The food was really good, I especially liked their "ghost" sauce, it is not spicy, but more seasoned mayo like. The quality of meat was nice, and you can dress up your burger however you want with extras in a buffet style self-serve. The red-velvet cake was okay to me, but the strawberry cake was really good. If you are driving through it's definitely worth checking out, and if you are a local, it's a very good value meal.

This place is a hidden gem I never knew about. Fresh baked pies, cakes, cookies.. but they also have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is very reasonably priced and I am so thankful to have found it!

We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries, the bacon cheeseburger with fries, and a side of onion rings. Everything as you can see on the picture was delicious. The burgers are huge and the onion rings were mouthwatering. You can tell by the way it's made that it's homemade with a side of love. The wait staff and everyone working there was extremely nice and willing to assist you in any way. Did I forget to mention that they also have a bar where you can choose your own toppings as well as grab a hot bowl of chili if you would like. We also ordered dessert from the bakery there. We got the strawberry shortcake bar, black Forest bars, white birthday cake. The cake is light and fluffy. If you're in the Longview area you should definitely stop by this place.

Just had the worst hamburger ever. 5:30 Saturday night, burger was dry and cold. Looked like it had been cooked and sat for hours. Bun had also been cooked long before and was cold and chewy.

Food is great. Bought a cake for my son's birthday. Ask for orange icing to write his name and Happy birthday. They wrote it in yellow. Box was not big enough for cake. Took icing off flowers. Paid 50.00. Gotta do better on cakes.

Prices and quality of breakfast were excellent. Coffee is $.60, and there is no wait staff to tip. The name of the place is VERY misleading as they have a great selection of Cakes and Cookies on top of their regular menu. Downside: the parking lot is gross, and the outside makes the place look like a dive!!!

The Butcher Shop, in Longview, TX, is a long-standing East Texas favorite restaurant. It's known for its burgers and bakery, but it also serves breakfast and dinner meals too. The hamburgers are made with fresh baked buns, and the restaurant prepares their own patties. The patties are not pre-packaged unlike most restaurants. Customers can also purchase certain cuts of meat as well as bacon. As a personal testimony, my favorite bakery item is the strawberry cream bar, and my husband loves the Italian cream bar. However, you really can't go wrong with any of their bakery items. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I absolutely love The Butcher Shop! It is just what the name says it is. Fresh meats, fresh cooked food, wonderful burger bar with everything you can imagine putting on a burger available to you. They have free refills if you get a fountain drink or tea. You can also get Root beer, Orange Slice, Coke, or Beer in glass bottles. Their fries are absolutely delicious. Tuesday's is half price burger and fries! They are famous for their burgers and desserts...oh my goodness...their desserts are divine! They make all kinds of cakes including wedding cakes and birthday cakes. I buy all cakes for special occasions from them. They do cater for parties from 50-500! If you aren't sure if you'll like it, I dare you to try it. I love their grilled chicken sandwich, too! I don't want to leave anything out😉! Thank you BUTCHER SHOP for kindly ignoring my service dog. She is always welcome and no questions are asked.

Tried this spot for the first time ever and talk about some GOOD food. It's not the world's healthiest, but amazing flavor usually means it's not, lol. I say that jokingly, though. I did, however, save up my cheat day just for this visit. Ended up with the Chicken Fried Steak, which was amazing. So good. Saw there was a sandwich version, but I'm a classic girl, so without the bun, please! If you are new to town or passing through, stop and try some good food, you won't be sorry.

Our first time to visit the Butcher Shop and we will definitely be back. The staff was super friendly, prices were very reasonable....I've seen local food trucks with higher prices....and the food delicious. We both ordered the ribeye plates.The ribeyes were thin which was fine for us. They were tender and juicy. Cooked well done just like we ordered. We ordered a potato for our side and it was a nice size and moist. We liked the self serve free refills on the drinks as well. Food was served on a Styrofoam plate which made it somewhat difficult to cut the steak but that's not anything to keep us from coming back. We stopped by the bakery on our way out and left with a slice of strawberry cake as well as a slice each of German chocolate and Kahula cake. All were extremely delicious but the strawberry was to die for! Planning on trying the hamburgers next trip!

Food is great! Very filling for an older couple. We could have probably just gotten the chicken fried steak and a drink to share (one of us cant drink with meals). Really good food. Can start with a small bowl of chili and crackers while you wait on your food to cook. They have the sweetest and most hard working lady at the food bar- Pam! Loved her and man does she work hard!

One of the better burgers in Longview. Fries were pretty good too, thicker cut with Cajun seasoning as an option. The fries were made better with some added chili and cheese from the "salad" bar. The burger patty was pretty thick but a bit overcooked in my opinion. I prefer a medium rare or medium burger and this was well done. The bacon was a bit stale and low quality, crispier fresher bacon would make The Big Tex better. Overall a solid burger spot for Longview. I'll probably come back to try the chicken fried steak or some of the other sandwiches/burgers.

I think this place is amazing what else can be said if you haven't been there go there their chicken fried steak is phenomenal and I don't say that easily. I'm really good at cooking and from scratch so when I give kudos to chicken fried steak biscuits and gravy or cheesecake they've done a good job it's all there is to that not saying that this place has all of those but they're chicken fried steak melts in your mouth it's crispy on the outside and then you get inside of there and it just melts it's amazing I love it Go there

Truly a hidden gem. The person taking our order seemed a little irritated that we had questions about the menu. When your at a new place, you might have a few questions. Food was delicious, burgers perfect, and the onion rings were so good. The bakery section is fully loaded with so many selections! It was hard to pick just one thing.

This place has been here since 1984… that has GOT to mean something … this was my second time in Longview and we were here for a friends birthday (a local to East Texas) celebration. They have very large portions for very affordable prices . We got a grilled ham and cheese with a chicken fried steak. And two fountain drinks . Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic , American , local , home grown East Texas delicious eating experience !

I've been going to the butcher shop when it very first opened. It is consistently amazing! I've gotten their grilled chicken sandwich at least 500 times. And I'm not sure that chili recipe that you can get while you're waiting on your food but it is completely amazing and has always stayed exactly the same. Don't get me started on the bakery. Everything at the bakery is amazing and fresh!

Outstanding, I loved then cleanliness, the staff was very knowledgeable and they really came off as if we had been longstanding friends. The food was wonderful and my wife and I look forward to making this location apart of our date nights. If there was any request for improvements. The butcher shop side should post pricing and availability and select cuts they offer. Just from what was in the case it appears there is only select cuts sold. We were curious as we wanted to purchase half a cow.

I purchased a roast, pork chops, burger patties, stew meat, short ribs, and chilli meat. Camden assisted me and gave great friendly customer service. Excellent place to eat. I got the regular cheeseburger. Once you get your burger you can head over to the burger bar and dress it how you like. They have all the fixing plus some. I did not get to try their baked goods but they look really good and I hear they are good. The burger buns are fresh baked there and you can buy them for your own cookout along with meet too. Check em out I don’t think you will be disappointed

The butcher shop is a longview staple restaurant. They have all kinds of food on their menu and there burgers, hotdogs and other items are all made to order and fresh. I mainly go for the desserts. I have ordered birthday cakes that were extremely delicious and fresh. There are cookies and all desserts are so good. There is a huge variety of desserts. As soon as you walk in the door you will see cases of desserts. This place is consistently good and definitely must try destination.

Burgers, fries and potato skins are made to order, hot and delicious. The seasoning on the fries reminded me of WingStop but much better and high quality fries. The desserts were a little pricey, but well done, and hits the sweet spot just right. The service is where they really shine, thank you for a good dinner.

It was our First time in Texas visiting family, we stopped here for lunch and we were blown away! The gal at the register was not very friendly but the servers and other wait staff were extremely helpful and kind! The food was INCREDIBLE! Their chicken fried steak sandwich was the best tasting chicken fried steak I’ve ever had. Their burgers were handmade and i loved their condiment bar! Fries were also the best homemade fries I’ve ever had! Can’t wait until our next visit and to bring more family here! Their deserts were also delicious! We had the choc covered cheesecake and choc chip cookies! 10/10 recommend trying this place!

You enter the doors of the butcher shop and the first thing you see is the bakery display filled with all types of delectable goodies. You can purchase single servings or purchase whole cakes, pies, pastries and fresh baked bread. They serve a nice country breakfast that comes with a serve yourself fruit bar. The lunch and dinner menu comes with a serve yourself vegetable/condiment bar and pinto beans. The burgers and fries are fatastic with homemade fresh baked buns. They also serve an excellent chicken fried steak. Very reasonable prices. The customer service is excellent. There is plenty of seating. Clean area. It can get noisy if you go at peak times.

We ordered a Black Forest Cake for my husband's 65th birthday. The young man who took our order looked like he wasn't happy at all to be there helping us and that was a bit off putting which was why there was 4 stars instead of 5. The cake was amazing. Burgers are served with a good char, but there’s no choice as to the level. Every one is VERY “well done”. If that’s your choice, you’ll love it. If you prefer rare or medium, you’re out of luck. These are cooked til the meat is dry, dry, dry.

But Only down side I can see was when i wanted to order a special made Cake for a birthday with and Edible Image i’m not sure why it was such an issue for the Cake Decorator (Ana) but she didn’t seem to want to make it. I got the brunch burger which comes with hash browns, bacon, a fried egg and cheese. It was all cooked perfectly and tasty. I also got a side of onion rings and they were flaky and seasoned. I would highly recommend the onion rings!

Excellent burgers and bakery! Fairly quick. Atmosphere is adequate - appears somewhat dirty most times and really gross dirty during busy times. During peak rush it can be hard to find a table but otherwise there is typically ample seating.

Ordered a pick up of 2 chicken fried steak plates … everyone was so nice and it was so busy but food just going out quick… the steaks was good but they forgot the gravy and once back home I was not going back for gravy but again would have been nice … the potato and all fixings was good I was surprised though to notice neither tater was cleaned prior to cooking… I like the skin and unwrapped it and it was filled with mud the outside was so dirty but now I know to keep the foil on or go wash it before eating lol …. The sweet tea was good…

They have the best burgers in town. The chicken-fried steak is amazing. They have a separate area with all the fixings so you can customize your Burgers to your liking. They have the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions plus other condiments to choose from. Best part is the free chili. They also have a great bakery. They offer some really great cookies, cakes and other sugary treats. Staff is really great and the food always comes out fresh and hot. Even this past mother's day with this place extremely packed the staff worked hard to get the orders out and every order came out correct. Burgers and sides are sold separately but if you order one of their meals you get one side for free.

Not a review of their savory food. The Boss Lady and I stopped by for some sweets. Got one of their flakey and delicious cherry turnovers, a strawberry and lemon cream mini pies. We liked the lemon more. We'll be back one day to eat some burgers.

This is talk to text, so please excuse the grammar. I ordered Chicken Fried steak, you only have a few options to choose from for sides, which is a baked potato, french fries or onion rings. It was 2 pieces of Chicken Fried steak. I was able to eat one there, and take one with me. Your food comes out on a styrofoam plate and you eat with plastic utensils. The Chicken Fried steak was tender enough to cut with a plastic fork. The gravy tasted packaged and kind of bland. They do have a very nice selection of pies, cakes and cookies. All the employees were super nice.

Overall, the food and desserts are delicious! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because we ordered a fresh baked sourdough bread that was perhaps, the worst sourdough bread I’ve ever tried. It was incredibly dense and had a weird taste to it; very disappointing, but we will continue getting delicious food and sweets here😊

I came into the shop at a time they were closing but it clearly states they are open to 5:30 pm or until they run out of food. They were limited on items but overall, I enjoyed the variation of spicy and regular bbq sauce. I had the opportunity to try brisket and some sausage.

A Longview staple, we had not been there literally since the 1990s. Little has changed in any way, except things are more expensive now. Otherwise, the venue is pretty much unchanged from when we were in college. The food, however, has also not changed--in a good way! Excellent burgers and fries, and an incredible bakery set of options as you enter the restaurant. There is something here for everyone as long as you are a meat lover and love baked goods. The restaurant could use a complete overhaul to bring up to a modern look, but otherwise it is solid. Recommended.

I had a great time at the Butcher's shop with family and friends! Great service when it comes to expedience of paying for food and the cooking of the food. I ordered a bacon burger and i enjoyed every bite of the burger except for the fries. The fries were stale and hard and when I did ask for fresh fries, the fries were no different. I could've lived without the fries because the burger was what made my visit worth the stay. I would recommend this place for eating out but don't eat the fries.

Stopped to try this place out and the service upon ordering was unpleasant. We mistook the black bean burger and apologized repeatedly that we were from out of town and are used to bean burgers having the beans on top of a beef patty (there’s is an actual patty made of black beans). We felt uncomfortable at how rudely the young lady was responding after that. The manager had to come over and fix/cancel the order but his attitude unfortunately was no better; which explains why the cashier felt so comfortable being so rude. That aside, the burgers were okay. The bison burger was dry (which is expected I suppose) my son had the brunch burger and the beef was pretty good. Ordered a side salad and it was very wilted and brown. We tried the bakery and the service there was more pleasant so that’s why I gave the 2 stars for service. Tried the mini pecan pie and it was pretty tasty. All in all would never be back nor recommend. The butcher area on site and building itself was a small town diner vibe and has the potential to be a real gem once customer service is improved.

Butcher Shop in Longview has lots of reviews but it wasn’t anything special, honestly. The burger didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and the fries were bland. The desserts were good. Service also wasn’t great and workers didn’t seem to want to be there. It’s more expensive than I was expecting.

Second time eating here. I had the chicken fried steak. All I can say is I’ve craved this meal almost everyday. It was definitely worth the drive from Tyler,Tx,. The cupcakes were so decadent. The strawberry cupcake was so yummy.

It has been at least a year since our last visit and the desserts we are inviting! As we entered the bakery, well lit greeted us. Some updates have been made to menu boards, the removal of the salad bar, but areas that really need improvement, such as loose hand rails and bottomed out booth seats. We ordered ribeye platters, and I received the last baked potato that appeared burned on one side. The steaks were thin, very fatty and had no noticeable seasonings. For a cost of almost $19! $20 more on cookies, leaving us wanting to stay home and cook on the grill.

A place called the butcher shop should know how to cook a burger medium rare. This thing g was well-done. The fried were gross, couldn’t eat them, no salt or seasoning, they were hard and tasted old. We got several deserts, those weren’t amazing, but better quality than the food. Overall, it was disappointing. Not worth going back.

Don't order the grilled pork chops, ridiculous! No taste, nothing like a pork chop. It was like a piece of leather with no taste, beans were excellent, cookies were over priced but great. If I go back it would be just for the burgers and fries.

I will be back. Just wanted a slice of Pecan Pie. I have been coming here for 3 years for their baked goods. Cakes. Pies. Cookies. Large selections. Never eaten their takeout or dine-in meals yet.

A friend recommend our family come here. We came for dinner during Christmas. It was fairly empty for a restaurant they hyped up. What I noticed was that most people weren’t here for dinner, they were here for dessert. The lines were crazy for the bakery! When we got to the counter the guys weren’t the friendliest. Most of us got the chicken fried steak and it was a sizable portion. Got a baked potato and roll with it and it was yummy. My one complaint is the area where you load up on condiments. It was dirty and disorganized. A little TLC goes a long way… wish I could have snapped a pic of the area. I would return here again to try something else and grab some bakery items!

This was a highly recommended place and we couldn't wait to go. The first visit was, "OK not bad!", great dessert counter and food was ok (maybe it was all the hype). Second and third try, we noticed the burger bar was unmanaged, the floors were super sticky and sitting areas need better care. The place has seen much better days. It is time for this place to get an overhaul and a deep cleaning. The food was still ok, not impressive. I think we will stick with the dessert counter, great cookies and pies.

Looks like this used to be a nice place, the guy grilling didn't know what he was doing super over cooked everything. Cheap ingredients and oils used here equal belly ache. Not worth coming for meat all the had was ground beef. The desserts were all right, but again cheap ingredients. I will not go back for any of their offerings

Sad reminder of the past. 20 years ago, this was the go-to place for a good burger when we lived here ages ago. We've stopped by the last couple times we've passed through. The inside is outdated and in dire need of repairs/updates, unless your hoping the giant holes in the booth seats distract from all of the other issues. The burger patties were dry and to small for my bun, requiring me to pinch off excess bread and not even hot enough to melt my cheese. They were to lazy to chop up a fresh salad for my side salad, instead I was given a nasty bag salad with chunks of slightly unripe tomatoes.... The onion rings weren't rings at all, they were chunks of fried onion gloop which was fried in ages old tasting oil.... The cookies don't taste like I remember...they are now reminiscent of those tubes of cookies in the refrigerator section at the grocery store. Most of the cupcakes were good, my personal favorite was the chocolate fudge cupcake; the strawberry cupcake tasted like artificial strawberry.

The staff is always really friendly and helpful. I have to say that I love the taste of the burgers but the texture of them is just a little bit different. I know this is a very popular burger place so my opinion is probably one of the least common of opinions. I just feel like the meat is way too dense and I guess if you're looking for that, then it's great. I personally lean towards thinner burgers more like kind of smash burgers and old fashioned burgers. Nevertheless, we still come back and I always get the same thing and never finish it. Even though the taste is delicious it's a texture thing for me. Ha!

This isn’t a one star restaurant, but it’s not my cup of tea. The burgers are always dry and cooked too long, with no flavor. The self serve toppings bar was awful and took forever. When you get through the long line to a topping like lettuce or onions, rude, impatient people will try to push you out of the way or reach over you. I’d rather just have them already on the burger like everywhere else. The employees in the bakery are also not very pleasant, and offer little assistance. The cookie I had wasn’t bad but I can’t see it being a reason to return. Gave this place two stars only because it was clean. I just can’t see the hype though.

While the chicken fried steak was good, the place needs a major deep clean. Dirty tables, the fixin area was a mess and the worst was both cashier checkout areas. Disgusting. At the topping bar I could barely reach the fixings on the back side. Hardly usable. It was a stretch. The roll was cold. Maybe it’s supposed to be? First visit ever. Friends fries had no flavor and they were a cold, limp pile of potatoes. Lastly, I’m a sugar cookie fanatic and this one was stale and had barely any sugar or flavor. I’d be willing to try it again if I walk in and see a clean place.

First time coming and I was disappointed. I ordered a chicken fried steak platter and it was soaked in grease. I feel like I ate just tablespoons of grease. I have a greasy coating in my mouth now and upset stomach. The whole platter wasn't any good. At the beginning one of the cooks was very rude so this will be my final visit. The picture doesn't show how bad it really was.

My rating before covid was 5 star I went here regularly. I’ve been waiting on the burger bar to reopen. Yesterday An employee told me they decided not to have a self serve hamburger fixings bar anymore. Now it’s just another burger joint. No longer a local legend and not many people seem to go here anymore. Sad!! I’m not returning either. If they change their mind someone let me know😕

Do not eat here! I don't understand the positive reviews here... the server/cashier that took our order was surly and obviously didn't want to be there. The ribeye steak wasn't a rib eye and was requested medium rare but was well done, verging on burnt. The burger was dry, cold, and seemed very "prefabricated and frozen" despite everything being advertised as made "in house". The fries were limp, greasy, cold, and bordering on a pallid gray color. Lesson learned: too much for too little, overhyped food. I would not recommend, nor do I plan to ever return.

Cashier: not a friendly person or informative, almost resentful. Food: baked potato small and over cooked. Grilled chicken sandwich was good however the fries were very greasy as we're the onion rings dripping, not worth eating. Service: self serve at best do your own fixings which is not clean, and is a fight always. Atmosphere: there is none loud, rude clients, as most every one who works there. Overall cleanliness: Dirty tables are sticky and floors are dirty and greasy. Never going back.

I recently placed an order for my husband’s birthday party, requesting 24 plain white vanilla cakes. Unfortunately, half of my order was incorrect, with multicolored flowers on top instead of the plain design I requested. When I picked up the order, one box was correct, and the other was taped up, so I assumed everything was fine. But when I arrived at the party and opened the second box, I found the incorrect cakes. I called the bakery to let them know, and although I provided a photo of one of the incorrect cakes, the manager insisted that they needed more proof and refused to offer any compensation. Despite being a loyal customer, I was treated rudely, and the issue was not resolved. I ended up paying nearly $100 for an order that was only half correct. This experience was disappointing, and I will not be returning. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions.

Paid for our food was charged more than I was supposed to pay, when trying to figure out the situation everyone was trying to talk at once making it very confusing, was told a refund couldn’t be done then all of the sudden my card had been refunded (was placed on a hold with my bank) I then had to pay for my cheeseburger again. Had asked in the first place if I could just get a dessert instead I was told that was fine was then yelled at from across the restaurant by a man saying ma’am we don’t owe you anything you owe us. VERY unprofessional and the food wasn’t even that good.
