First time visit and we will definitely return. Decent size, but definitely small seating capacity and so popular people come from miles around, so make a reservation! Owners purchased a couple of years ago after having a very successful local restaurant already. The chef has so many specials, after a quick run down, there was no reason to order off the menu. Everything was pared well and cooked to perfection. Service was very available and attentive, but not obnoxious. Markleeville is a very small town, don't blink, or you'll miss it, but very quaint. Patio seating out front during the warmer season. Can't wait to go back during the Spring and summer. FYI bring cash, my credit card with chip was not able to be read with their card reader.
You can tell the cooks and the other staff care about providing a great experience every step of the way! The macadamia nut crusted calamari was a standout but everything was delicious. Will definitely return!
After dining here tonight, I decided to tell the world that I really love this restaurant. We live far away and make Stonefly an annual treat The setting is precious, nestled in quaint Markleville and lit in a festive way that charms the evening. The food is glorious. Dinners are prepared with unique recipes that emphasize both fresh, organic ingredients and complex flavors. My positive feelings about tonight's meal will remain lucid until we visit again.
Visiting from SoCal with friends in Gardnerville who took me to this hidden gem. So quaint and intimate, with warm, friendly & attentive staff. Thx Danelle for the tips and smiles. Everything we indulged in was a 10, from their special sangria, crispy polenta and brie apps. And the pork chop, swordfish and pizza were delish… and to finish it off, the lemon ginger ricotta cake is a must have. A definite return will happen one day!
We had an excellent time at Stonefly. Service was perfect and food was delicious. Definitely check it out if you're around.
We had just moved to the area from North Bay and were told this restaurant was very good. We decided to give it a whirl and to our shock it was better than most of our favorite North Bay restaurants. The service is professional, and the food simply outstanding. The wine list also hits the mark. The option for dining in or out adds much to the experience. What a wonderful surprise! Being stranded in Markleeville for 2 days due to a RV breakdown my wife and I had the opportunity to meet the amazing staff at Stonefly. Being a off sidewalk restaurant they were the first people we approached to borrow a phone.( No cell service.) They were all so kind an helpful. You all are amazing. As is your restaurant. Thank you
Very cool and intement. Food was amazing. Love to sit outside and enjoy the mountain air.
Seasonal local dining. Good selection of foods and wine. Steaks are excellent and well complimented with herbs, spices and sides. Limited indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations accepted and strongly advised.
This is hands down the best food I've had in a very long time. I had the baked brie and the filet mignon. This place will for sure get a Michelin star very soon. Will definitely come again!!
My wife and I came late on a Friday evening without a reservation. The very friendly staff sat us immediately. We were treated to the specials of the evening, which included mostly vegetarian fare, plus COD, Trout, Pork loin and stone fired pizzas. We selected gespatcho soup, shishito peppers, a warm cherry salad and pizza. Everything was perfectly prepared. Our meal was fantastic. Most definitely recommend stonefly and will be back.
I love the vibe of this special gem of a restaurant. Each time I have come here to dine I have been impressed with the fine cuisine, quality wine list and the warm and friendly staff. I highly recommend Stonefly!
The food is wonderful! All the appetizers are so good. I’ve had duck, filet mignon, salmon, and the pizza there as well. I’m always impressed. Fantastic service to boot!
I’ve been coming here for years. It’s as good as any restaurant in the Bay Area, and in a beautiful tiny town as a setting. The staff and the owners, Allie and Nick, are super nice. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
Stonefly is truly one of our favorite places to dine and we dine there often. :-) The food is excellent and made with fresh ingredients, the service is friendly and they have a surprisingly good wine list.
Outstanding little restaurant! I would happily travel back here to enjoy the excellent food and ambience. Make reservations in advance!
No seating inside when I arrived and it was like January in June so we sat outside with wood fired pizza, propane warmers and blsnkets compliments of the house put it on your bucket list cause the food is to die for and it more then warmed my bones on a cold night.
Absolutely amazing food and service! The best cheese cake I’ve ever had!!!!!!!!
This place totally beat all the expectations we had. Very friendly owner and staff. Food was absolutely delicious beyond belief!! Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Great atmosphere! Amazing food! The owners and waitress were so nice. Can't wait to go back.
We were on a road trip from DC and visited Stonefly for dinner. Incredible food and service with a cozy atmosphere. Deserves a Michelin star!
Mushroom polenta is fantastic! Shishito peppers also very good. I will definitely come back and try all the appetizers.
What a great restaurant! Really enjoyed the food and the service was great.
Delicious cuisine! Classic flavors executed beautifully with friendly local staff offering personable high end service. The charred cabbage was simple yet elevated and unique and the steak and duck entrees we prepared perfectly!
We live in South Lake and Stonefly is our favorite restaurant by far. A little bit of a drive out of town but it’s a gorgeous one. Great vibes, fantastic food, and love that the menu changes and has daily specials. Love this hidden gem!
It’s highly rated, but I was somewhat surprised by how fantastic this place is; food, service and atmosphere are perfect. A place like this can only exist in California.
If it’s on the way or even if it’s not, do yourself a favor and stop at Stonefly for a very special meal. Nestled in the small village of Markleeville, it harbors a wonderfully talented chef and fabulous team who work to provide an exceptional dining experience. Menu offers superb starters, creative entrees, with nightly specials. Beer, variety of delicious wines, and tempting desserts. Call ahead & make a reservation before you head to the hills. Enjoy!
Best pork chop I’ve had in my life. You have to try the homemade desserts too! Incredible service, we can’t wait to come back!
My absolute favorite restaurant. I’ve driven 5 hours round trip just to sit in person to experience this place. If you go, your 5 senses will be overwhelmed 🤯. The menu is refreshingly unique... jars of home pickled concoctions surrounding the bar at which you may sit and be mesmerized while you watch your meal be cooked. The atmosphere reminds me of a combination of the movies “Fried green tomatoes”, mixed with that romantic feel of “Serendipity” with John Cusack. Very very well done... I hope and dream and prey I will own a place like this one day! 💕 Edit/update: I own a restaurant now and you guys were an inspiration for a lot of it! (2020-2024)
Everything was so uniquely delicious. We tried an array of the dishes on the menu and the specials and everything was amazing. You could order anything and not go wrong. You could taste the love and passion in every bite. Definitely treat yourself to this restaurant at least once in your life.
New ownership under Faith and John Saletti and the food is Phenomenal. Their family recipes are amazing. Had the best homemade pizza I’ve ever tasted. Also so great to have Faiths desserts back in town again. Highly recommend this family’s home recipes!
The cutest mountain town restaurant with the most amazing food! The brie is a must try (sooo good) and the filet mingon was the best I've ever had! Great vibes, great food and great service - 10/10 highly recommend!
Stonefly.. thank you for all of it!! Wow, we are so lucky to have you! The service was so good, the food made with creative and well balanced unique freshness. Yes, the home made pasta Alfredo with wood fire roasted shrimp, with fresh basil, is amazing.
High quality, delicious food. Fine dining at it finest. Quiet and friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend eating here, you will be very impressed. Everytime in the area it's a must.
The restaurant smells like heaven from the street. Delicious menu. You Must try the dessert, the best coconut cake.
I have eaten at the Stonefly many times and it is always perfect. Everyone from the host, the waitpeople, the cooks to the dishwasher are friendly. The staff is warm and makes you feel like you are part of their family. The food is excellent . I have over 20 years of restaurant experience and really appreciate the good service and delicious food. I think one sign of a good restaurant is having the same cooks and many of the same waitpeople working year after year. Ali and Miguel are the foundation of this delightful place. Markleeville really does have a gem of a restaurant!
What a wonderful experience. Caring and attentive front of house. Kitchen is fully open to dining area so every table can see their food being prepared. Best chiopino I have ever had. Well worth the drive.
Wow...what a hidden gem. Located in a super cute, small, historic town, this amazing restaurant would hold its own in any of the top notch metropolitan food districts. The food is consistantly supurb, the service is friendly, personal and professional and the atmosphere is charming.
Lovely in every way! The service is amazing and so kind, the wine, the food, the atmosphere.... I absolutely think it is the best hidden gem and I loved it so very much. Definitely go and support this amazing restaurant - they are doing an amazing job!
My wife and I have been to Stonefly several times over the years. Last nights experience was top notch! Our dinner was amazing and the desert was epic! The filet was so fresh and the quality of meat was over the top. Yvonne, Amber and Faith are making Stonefly shine! We are so happy this place exists!
My husbands birthday dinner in the summer rain on the patio of Stonefly last night was perfectly fun❣️ Thank you to the Mother Nature, the wonderful staff & other patrons for fabulous atmosphere. Every dish was perfectly prepared and delicious. My husband recommends the pork chop. SBG
Faith and John, Im embarrassed I haven't been sooner. Food incomparable. Amazing. Sevicice awesome. Yall rock.
Lovely place, great ambience and delicious food. We loved their baked Brie, calamari, focaccia, and the buckeye dessert. In fact, everything was very tasty and the service was friendly. I wish this was my local!
Went here with the girlfriend for her birthday dinner. Food was fantastic. We had a small issue with bees coming out to try and enjoy our food with us. The host urgently helped us inside to get away and cleared another table. Cant thank you guys enough. Was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.
The food was outstanding!!! The staff was so friendly and helpful with information about the restaurant and sights in and around the area. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic atmosphere and phenomenal food! Run by the owners, Faith and Jason. Save room for Faith’s homemade desserts!
A friend has been telling me to go here for years, saying th eplace is excellent. Finally, about three weeks ago, my wife and I were in Markleeville on a day Stonefly was open and had the chance, and he was spot on. Food - excellent. Staff - very courteous and attentive without being too "in your face." Atmosphere - it's Markleeville; how can you go wrong? It ain't cheap, nor should it be. But it's worth what you pay. This place would be a top-shelf restaurant in pretty much any city or town in the country. That it is in Alpine County is amazing. Make the reservation and go. You will not be disappointed.
The food, the service the atmosphere are all top cabin and you absolutely cannot leave without having the carrot cake😋
This is one of the valleys hidden gems with one of the best chefs around Michelin star best food. It is so worth the drive. It’s a breath taking enjoyable drive you gotta stop and Enjoy the cuisine
Better get a reservation way ahead! This place is great! Very reasonable prices for such excellent food, service, plus a very cozy and convivial experience. The appetizers, baked brie and the wood-fired sirloin tips were two of the most tasty things we have ever, ever tasted in our lives. Best Filet ever. Though they were extremely busy, the service was incredible. So impressive!
This restaurant is a gem located in the small town of Markleville, a mere 25-minute beautiful drive from our home in Gardnerville. The food, service, and atmosphere all made for an outstanding dining experience for my wife and I. HIGHLY recommend! +5 Stars!
My wife and I were very pleased with all aspects of this restaurant. Clean restroom, cold beers, unique recipes that were well-executed. We had not made reservations but we were seated and attended to without delay. We’re tough restaurant critics but we walked away satisfied and felt as though the meal was an experience and not a transaction. If you are in the area, visit this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
An absolute treasure! If your rolling through this small town you must have dinner here. A lot of attention to detail. Great service and the food was absolutely delicious!
We had dinner at this little hidden treasure of a restaurant about 25 minutes from our home in Minden. NV. It's truly one of the best meals we've had .....anywhere. The owner, Faith, was amazing and her team was excellent. The food, it's among the best anywhere you'll find.... the menu... over the top delicious!! While the menu is extensive, the specials are just as extensive. Everything from beautiful salads, salmon, tuna, steak, fresh pastas, duck, chicken, pork...and delicious made from scratch desserts. We talked about the meal and the service all the way home and we're already talking about making our next reservation, you definitely will not be disappointed. And yes; reservations are a definite a must.
We had a great experience here. The food was excellent. I got the duck and my partner got the lamb chop. We came again another night and had a very good bread pudding for dessert. The interior is adorable, with mismatched country-style chairs and an all around feeling of coziness. The staff were really wonderful. Friendly, welcoming, and good at their jobs. My only complaint is they had music playing outside. It's unnecessary. In such a quiet, bucolic little town it felt jarring whenever I left my room across the street at Creekside Lodge.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience. Cute place, great service, lovely wood fired food. Stayed at the Creekside Lodge and came back here 3 nights in a row for dinner. Favorite items: Brie puff pastry with honey, almonds, and apple. Halibut with chimchurri sauce. Call for a reservation to make life easier.
Wow, delicious dinner and wonderful service! We drove about 35-40 min here from South Lake. Our table wasn’t ready yet, so we had drinks across the street and went back to have pork chops, shrimp, the hugest chicken I’ve ever seen, tons of apps, and tasty dessert. The owner even walked across the street to tell us that our table was ready. Come here and don’t skip the buckeye dessert!
And I thought Carson Valley didn't have any good restaurants...I stand corrected! This place has been recommended to me numerous times, and I finally made it here. Food was amazing. Staff were amazing. I had a great meal! I highly recommend and will be returning sooner than later. No complaints (unusual for me ;-) )
Stopped here for dinner after Kirkwood last week. Amazing service, food- Everything was great! Seems hard to get a reservation so plan ahead! The charred cabbage is a great dish to start with. We had the chicken ravioli, pork chop (which was enormous), NY strip and the Chipotle chicken with Calabria chili. Great spot- definitely check it out!
Service is amazing so is the food. They source some of the best produce the chicken me and my buddy split was a free range chicken. Last time I went I had the filet special and that was cooked to perfection with a gorgonzola sauce. The calamari is a must being a foodie I usually prefer the calamari rings and tencles however they cut a calamari steak up and serve it in a awesome beurre blanc sauce. The steak itself is breaded in macadamianuts. They definitely need a entree portion of this on the menu because it's so delicious. Being a Sommelier I am usually not a sangria person thiers isn't too sweet though it's a must as well!!!! The outside area is beautiful and is heated. The inside is cute and very quaint. The food is under priced and that is hard to find these days !!! Being in the industry and picky due yourself a favor and go to stone fly and spend time in the beautiful quaint town of markeliviile!!!
This is a little gem and worth the drive!! I had the lasagna(special), wife had blackened halibut(special)and our friend had blackened filet. My lasagna was rustic and screaming with fresh flavors!!!!The calamari was amazing! Prawns were least favorite. I’m going back for the pork chop!! When a table of seven and 5 people get the chop you know it’s the dish to get!! Service was very professional. Bottom line the owners are old restaurant pros! And it shows with every bit! You need reservations!
stonefly is excellent! I dined here with my boyfriend and his parents , everything is delicious for appetizers we had the charred cabbage AMAZING and the Shishito peppers. For dinner we all ordered off the off menu specials they had for the night which include the the filet , king salmon, swordfish and the chicken scallopini. Food is just hands down amazing and the staff is lovely.
It is lovely and nice place to enjoy the dinner. Every persons look happy with the nice food and atmosphere. The foods i had taken are so nice to me but too much for me.
This is the best meal I have had since Berlin. It’s exquisite. If that’s not your thing, I get it. It’s not cheap nor should it be. Reservations highly advised. Dogs with suitable class are welcome on the patio.
THIS PLACE WAS SO CUTE!!!! What a perfect romantic date night spot nestled in the mountains. The owner, Faith, was the sweetest host and you better NOT skip out on her homemade dessert. The carrot cake sent to me to heaven. I WILL BE BACK
Those is an amazing restaurant in Markleyville!! There is a large patio out front and the inside has lots of charm! Their menu has lots of specials and believe me, they are very special! Best onion soup I have ever had. The pasta special was Fettuccine with Scallops, delicious! Their homemade Everything Bread was wonderful! Amber was our server and she is so nice, we felt like have a new friend. Altogether, a wonderful dining experience!!
A great place to go for dinner if you're in the area. The staff was friendly and attentive. Food was outstanding. We started with the Hearts of Palm salad and the charred cabbage. She had the duck breast and I had the ribeye special. Drinks are limited to beer and wine. Definitely worth visiting.
The food was very good, there were good vegetarian options and the most pleasant thing was the attention of the staff, especially Francisco, he was really friendly and helped us a lot with his recommendations, we would definitely go back!
Love the charming atmosphere. Fantastic service, excellent food. Loved the wood fired pizza, best chocolate espresso torte, amazing crispy polenta either Marsala sauce. New ownership as of Oct 2021!
A not to be missed great dining spot in a cute, tiny town. Be sure to call ahead for reservations because it's a popular restaurant and for good reason. Food was amazing. We loved the special drink at the time, a sangria made with grapefruit. And be sure to order the char grilled cabbage appetizer. It was amazing and drew is back for a second time just so we could order it again. We also love their wood fire pizza & enjoyed sitting outside on their pleasant patio. Thank you to the kind hostess & we had wonderful, friendly servers both times. It's a dining experience, so don't come with expectations to be in and out. Rather, come with family and friends after a day exploring the nearby scenic area to relax & enjoy. Oh, and the desserts are all amazing too.
My friend and I made dinner reservations on a Friday night based on a recommendation from our Innkeeper at the Creekside Lodge. My friend is from Houston and I'm from Chicago where high end restaurants and fine dining are a big deal. Everything from the ambience, hospitality, and menu far exceeded our expectations - that speaks volumes coming from two big city travelers. We were greeted with a big warm welcome from the moment we walked in and informed of the specials and drink selection immediately. The menu was perfect because it was not too overwhelming with too many selections but just enough variety to get your salivary glands going. We nervously ordered the roast duck on special and I'll just say we wanted to order additional servings and come back the very next day to have it. The seafood risotto also did not disappoint. High compliments to the chef. If we had stayed in Markleeville for more than that single evening, we definitely would have returned. There needs to be more smaller restaurants like this in every little mountain town.

Well worth the drive from Minden. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had wonderful salmon and swordfish with calamari appetizers. We have been here at least five times, and it's always great.
Such a great hidden place. The food is amazing, the staff is great but the chef's really need to be complimented. We had 1 of the best meals last night. The fillet mignon was exceptional. The atmosphere is quaint and comfortable. Definitely a place everyone should try
Words truly can’t capture how incredible it is to experience Stonefly. This hidden gem is easily one of my favorite restaurants—and I’ve dined at many over my 59 years. It’s not just the unbelievably delicious food, but also the warm, quaint, and cozy ambiance paired with a genuinely friendly and welcoming staff that makes you feel like family. We always request our favorite server, Amber, who is absolutely exceptional—truly one of a kind. Her service is personal, engaging, and downright hilarious. She has us laughing the entire time and makes every visit feel memorable. And the food… wow—just WOW. The calamari is unique and outstanding, the wedge and Caesar salads are delicious, and the filet mignon is truly next level. Then comes dessert. Faith is an extraordinary baker; her carrot cake and toasted coconut cake are pure heaven. I’m already looking forward to trying her tiramisu, which I hear is equally amazing. With a menu full of exceptional choices and incredible rotating specials, it’s nearly impossible to choose just one dish. Stonefly delivers excellence at every level. Because the restaurant is small and intimate, reservations are recommended—and absolutely worth it. I highly recommend!
The food was phenomenal!! Some of the best lamb rack I've ever had. I got to sit at the bar and watch the chefs at work, and you can tell all of them are super highly trained and very passionate about their work. Also, the waitresses were really nice and welcoming. Overall restaurant had a lovely cozy atmosphere, would definitely come back.
Absolutely sensational. Travelling with a gluten allergy, especially to ski resorts, can be a real drag. Luckily, the Stonefly could provide me with the best gluten free (and vegetarian for me, but plenty of delicious looking options for meat eaters too!) meal I've eaten in California. Our server (Amber) was so thoughtful, knowledgeable and accommodating, I felt like I was in a safe pair of hands! Cannot recommend enough for a delicious meal, just make sure to make a reservation!

Went here with the girlfriend for her birthday dinner. Food was fantastic. We had a small issue with bees coming out to try and enjoy our food with us. The host urgently helped us inside to get away and cleared another table. Cant thank you guys enough. Was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

It's been a while since I have eaten in Markleeville. I know I have I just don't remember the exact year. The food was good especially the bread. Amber was our waitress. It's a little cramped in there but it's not too bad. Thanks for the Books by the way. I am not sure why my previous review is missing but that's ok. I retype my reviews in case incidents like that happens especially when I start to remember my past. The fire that swept through here almost looked like a controlled burn glad the town was spared.
Food was very good but their sign said woodford pizzas & they only had 3 selections. No good vegetarian options unless you want a salad but I did get a pizza minus the meat. Quality of the food was excellent though. Waitress was very good but they only had 2 options for beer.
Pizza dough preparation and execution was remenecent of Italy. Room for improvement is draft beer selection, however, the wine and champagne list is delicious. This place is worth going out of your way for..stay across the street at the creekside lodge and enjoy this fun small town. My favorite dish ordered was the fig and goat cheese pizza, and the scallops. I will be back and recommend it :)
I was really looking forward to eating here, but was a bit disappointed. Our server needed lots of additional training... Pizza was fabulous (as it should be for $18), pasta SPECIAL really wasn't special, spinach salad was good. Might try it again but other closer options are available.
This is one of our favorite area restaurants. The menu is unique and varied, something for everyone; seafood, steak, chops, pizza, vegan, and so on. A large selection of small plate or appetizers is available from the 'specials' board. The 'sit outside in a Sierras small town' ambience is one of a kind. Service is good, reservations two days ahead of time is nearly mandatory because they are always busy. I would have given five stars but I can't understand the mint on the ribeye 🤔.

Appetizers and deserts were good but none of our 3 main courses met our expectations for a ĥigh end restaurant. Food was too salty,, overspiced and overpriced.
The hostess was rude and turned us away when they had several open seats at the bar and throughout the restaurant. My only guess is because we were not the correct race. It’s sad that people in this world could still be so awful.
Onion soup had too much salt 🧂 🤢. Had the fish Wellington and hated the sauce it was cooked in. Could not take another bite! We were charged for 3 sangria's b/c our server decided to take 1 of them back before it was finished. $150 for a little bit of rice and grilled veggies was NOT worth it!!
I have been looking forward to eating at this restaurant for a long time. Was put in a narrow walkway and forgotten. Watched numerous other tables being waited on while we had still not been greeted. 20+ minutes go by and I asked for a menu, which they brought out a board with items on it. Another 15+ minutes go by and finally had server ask us what we wanted. The bus person (young female) was great! We were served our food after 1 hour and 15 minutes. By that time it was cold outside and dark. The older man lit a couple heaters but not near our table. I was too cold and hungry by the time we got our food. We quickly ate and left very dissatisfied. I will not be back.
Did not appreciate being rushed out for the next reservation after less than 90 minutes. My group ordered appetizers, meal, and wine which we're still enjoying before the owner comes by and tells us to hurry up for the next reservation. He then proceeds to start slamming silverware and new plates on our table. Extremely rude and unprofessional, would never support this company with my buisness again. The server was extremely nice however.
The atmosphere, customer service was great they were very attentive, however the food ranged from great to bad. I don't think it was worth $160 we spent for two people on dinner, I would have given three stars except for one thing which you will read about at the end of the review. I have to give this place one to star. Had filet tips as an appetizer, it was so over seasoned with pepper my mouth was overwhelmed and I couldn't taste my other appetizer. My wifes main course was very very good, she had the steak. I had ravioli the flavor was good and the alfredo sauce was excellent but the pasta was undercooked and very chewy. Dessert was cheese cake and delicious. However we will not be back. During dessert I noticed the assistant chef kept putting the tongs that he was cooking with in his back pocket repeatedly. He would flip a steak or fish on the grill or stir something in a pan then return them to his back pocket. It really grossed us out and ruined our entire experience at the restaurant. This is a reply to the owners response: I don't see where I can reply to your response but your cook never once wiped the tongs I watched for 15 minutes while I was eating dessert. Plus I really don't care if he wiped them off or not but he did not. It is unsanitary at best and just gross considering kitchens are hot and people sweat the sweat is eventually going to work through the clothing and onto the tongs plus he was cross contaminating the tongs flipping raw fish and beef while taking them in and out of his pocket repeatedly while your cook was using them. I did try to get your attention but you had walked into the back, I did wait about 5 minutes and I did not feel like waiting any longer for you to come back out so I left. I really debated with myself about putting this review up but because of the unsanitary way your cook handled the utensils I felt it was needed. It really shouldn't be a big deal just tell your cook not to put his tongs in his pocket just leave them on the counter next to the grill. I really don't think a health inspector would agree with your assessment of wiping tongs after handling raw meats and then sticking them back in the cook's pocket would be a sanitary or an acceptable practice. Your defense "he wipes them off" of this practice tells me all I need to know about your restaurant good luck in your endeavors I hope nobody gets sick.
I thought this place would be a great place to take my girlfriend for her birthday dinner. The hours say close at 8:30 on Friday 4/11/25. Showed up around 7:30. Parked directly in front of the restaurant, you immediately came out and took down the open flag and menu sign. Ignoring our obvious intention to come in and dine. When I asked if you were closed, you said, "we served our last dinner 20 minutes ago." And walked inside. There are no other places to eat nearby. The few places at desolation resort would be closed before our arrival. Leaving us with very few options and hungry and ready to eat dinner This is very rude and selfish behavior, especially for someone in the service industry. Change your hours to 7:30 or better yet, until closing or reservations are required. Very disappointed.
I found this restaurant through a Google search, as there are limited dining options in town—especially after snowboarding at Kirkwood. I was excited to try it after reading many positive reviews and because I enjoy supporting local, mom-and-pop businesses. Unfortunately, it was not clearly communicated online that reservations are required either on Google or Yelp. I even called ahead to confirm they were open before driving there. When we arrived, the interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, and the overall atmosphere was uncomfortable. A comment made by another customer added to the awkward and unpleasant experience stated, “out or in” yelling from the table where he was sitting from, and the whole group just laughed. We decided to leave and instead went to Cutthroat Tavern nearby, where the experience was the complete opposite. The staff was friendly and welcoming, there was live music, the environment felt relaxed and inclusive, and the food and beer were excellent. I would highly recommend Cutthroat Tavern. I went directly to their website and did saw you do have call to make a reservation, but was not clearly stated here on this platform.
