A fantastic spot for authentic Peruvian flavors right by the beach. We started with cold beers and the Yucca Fries with Huancaina sauce, they were surprisingly crispy and paired perfectly with the creamy, savory sauce. For the main, we had the Pescado a la Chorrillana, which was delicious and very well-prepared. If you want real-deal Peruvian food in a relaxed setting, this is the place!
We shared the lomo Saltado and sweet plantains for lunch. The lomo saltado was really good. The staff was really nice and didn’t say anything when we had half drank coffees from another place. I would come back here again. Also, no mandatory service charge, which was a nice surprise from other places.
Amazing peruvian dishes and the fish is simply delicious. Totally must go. The places is not fancy just plane and normal but the taste is amazing
Amazing food! The ceviche is truly outstanding. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, without excessive noise or overpowering music.
I was taken aback by how amazing the food was! We went on a random day during lunchtime when there wasn’t any people and the food was just wow! The seafood ceviche was out of this world - spicy, fresh, delicious!!! It was perfection. The chicken soup was really good as well! Sangria oh wow! No words! The service was incredible and quick! Really recommend it!
Delicious. Seafood is fresh and tasty. Recommend
Love this place, we go every time we're in town. Ceviche is my favorite in south beach and other items I've gotten there were all either REALLY good or above average at worst. This visit we got seafood fried rice which was one of the REALLY good ones. You can't go wrong here and most of the items make good carryout too.
Amazing Peruvian food!!! 19yrs ago I visited for the first time. I had to visit again and I did!!! Awesome service. Delish!!!
Food is crazy good, great service, feels like home
The food was great ! I would come back to try their other foods. The fried rice and ceviche were our favorite. The service was amazing, Elizabeth was our server and she gave the best recommendations.
Authentic Peruvian Flavors with a Cozy Vibe Chalan on the Beach offers a truly authentic Peruvian dining experience right in the heart of Miami Beach. The ceviche is incredibly fresh and bursting with citrusy goodness, while the lomo saltado was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of food. The service was friendly and attentive, making the overall experience even better. If you're looking for a laid-back spot with delicious Peruvian dishes, Chalan on the Beach is a must-visit!
The food was like none other. I got the pescado a lo macho and their sangria, and both were mouth-watering delicious. The squid and the shrimp in the bechamel sauce were so tender and soft (and not rubbery at all!) the sauce was so buttery and just melted in your mouth. The sangria was also superb and loaded with pieces of real fruit!!
Very affordable Peruvian place servicing ceviche and a lot of authentic dishes. Go with a big group so you can try a lot of things. Favorite dish is the steak with rice and fries, made medium. Doesn’t look that great but has a great flavor. Good value for the price.
Wow! What a wonderful dining experience. Our waitress (Elizabeth) was exceptional she carefully explained the menu and based on her recommendation I had a fantastic meal! Although, I have never tried Chilean cuisine before ….I honestly felt like I was a member of the Chilean community. I ordered a spaghetti dish with flap steak and it tasted so good 😊 I will definitely try her other recommendations on my next visit.
Fresh, clean, delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere! Lively background that was not too loud or intrusive. Our server, Merly, was amazing and helpful and friendly! She really knows the menu and was delightful. She also helped us choose menu items that were gluten and dairy free for an allergy. Davey also provided friendly and attentive service! We recommend the traditional cerviche, house salad, and the grilled beef with mashed white beans (I forget what this is called but it was delicious!). Oh, the sangria was also a great addition to our meal!!
I came here to try the Chaufa because my favorite place closed which was Kitchen 33. The chaufa was very good but Kitchen 33 was slightly better to me. I will be trying other chaufas around town to explore more options. I would definitely come here again, it was tasty. The jalapeño green sauce they have was very bomb.
Our Airbnb hosts suggested that this is their favorite restaurant in Miami Beach. Oh man did they live up to the hype. Our waitress is so friendly and patient. There are so many choices. Ceviche is amazing. The seafood dish was absolutely delicious. The portion is very big! I would definitely go back next time I visit Miami
Great place, price, service, and food. We ordered pescado sudado mixto a bit soupy, pescado con mariscos less soupy, fish soup was the best fish soup we tried, and grilled octopus which came cut up in sauce and potatoes was a nice dish as well. Came out a bit pricey though all dishes were seafood, fairly large dishes which leftover for tomorrow lunch. Tips are not included, refreshing to see that in Miami Beach, but they deserve every penny for the good service.
I was recommended Chalan on the Beach multiple times from locals. When it kept coming up as a place to go, I had to try it. I am so glad I did! Otherwise, I would have missed out on some of the best ceviche I have ever had. Seriously! I will be a regular here any time I come back to Miami Beach. Oh, I also had the cilantro beef stew here which was also quite delicious. I am pretty sure you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I love their slogan, “Where Cooking is Still an Art” and you can tell they truly believe that.
This is my first time eating Peruvian food. The food was amazing and the price was fair. I didn't know Peruvian cooking has a similar style like Chinese food. I ordered seafood fried rice, and I thought I was at a Chinese restaurant. I ended up eating there twice for my week of vacation. I will go back again.
I very much enjoyed the food here. 👌🏼 It was my first time trying Peruvian food. I ordered the beef stew with white rice and a side of French fries. They also gave me some authentic hot sauce on the side. The service was alright. However I did feel that the hostess was a little unwelcoming; only with tourists/foreigners. She was offended when someone asked for some Cholula hot sauce and annoyedly said this was a Peruvian restaurant, not Mexican. 😂 But despite of her attitude, I really liked the food. The beef stew was well-cooked and I highly recommend trying that dish.
I had the pleasure of dining at this Peruvian restaurant, and I must say it was an absolute delight. I was greeted with warm and friendly staff who were eager to share their rich culinary heritage. The menu was a true reflection of the diverse flavors and ingredients that Peruvian cuisine has to offer. The food itself was a revelation. Each dish was meticulously prepared. This is the place to must try seafood. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable Peruvian culinary journey.
I live in Miami Beach this is my absolute favorite place. I have never spent two weeks without eating at Chalan at least once. It’s a Traditional Peruvian Ceviche restaurant in the smallest but coolest little place in the heart of South Beach. I love everything about the place except for one thing, It’s a very small place right on the corner of 16 & Washington! Small venue that is not for large parties. They have a section that looks like a bar but definitely not a bar. It very small and always busy. The size sucks a bit, but when I think about it, that is exactly what makes Chalan such a great place and allows them to give great service a good. On the positive side 1. You can always order for take out. 2. Place is always clean 3. Food is cheap - I mean the price is awesome and not the typical expensive Miami Beach restaurant. 4. Services always excellent 5. You can see the chefs cooking the food through the window 6. It’s just a very cozy place. 7. Yes the food is amazing! I really mean amazing on top of the fact that they give you a whole lot of it, it’s so fresh and delicious. I definitely recommend Chalan, my favorite platter is the “Arroz Chauffa” with a whole friend fish!
Really good Peruvian - Cuban restaurant, nested on a corner Washington avenue and 16th street. Portions are huge, service is fast even during busy hours. Someone recommended to order seefod mountain - it's worth it. No parking but if you are staying up to 41th street Uber is less than $20 Update October 2020 - open for dine-in, outside patio. Same good food. Ceviche is perfect.
This is such a lovely find - close to our hotel on the corner of 16th and Washington Ave in South Beach - We had lush Steak flash fried with onions and tomatoes, and fries n white rice - shared the bowl as it was just a quick bite - was simple but absolutely gorgeous, seasoned to perfection! It was also gluten free which was perfect for me as I am coeliac xx Total came to $30 with 2 cokes!! Fab value
Our party ordered the Pescado con Mariscos and the Arroz Chaufa with only vegetables. The Pescado con Mariscos consisted of perfectly cooked fish and assorted seafood (octopus, calamari, shrimp) in a delicious, creamy sauce. Some of the pieces of calamari were a bit chewy and slightly over cooked and the shrimp was extremely salty. But overall it was an excellent entree. The Arroz Chaufa had a huge serving and was well-seasoned. The atmosphere was excellent and our waitress was extremely friendly.
The food here was delicious. I had the Pescado Tropical, grilled fish with chicken and a sauted vegetable blend on top. The taku taku was amazing as well. All the food was quality. Service was good overall, but they were busy and didn't check on us. Expect to pay about $30 a person. Inside dining was cozy and clean. Only downside was no outdoor seating, so 4 out of 5 on atmosphere, otherwise, lovely.
Wow, one of the most delicious places I have ever eaten at. The three color Ceviche might be my most favorite food of all time. Excellent service and the quality of the food is amazing. I visited this restaurant multiple times in one visit because the food was so amazing. Highly recommend.
This place is a must in South Beach. It offers an authentic and cozy atmosphere at reasonable prices. I tried the ceviche, which was delicious, fresh, and generously portioned, especially for the area. The service was fast and friendly, making the experience even better. Highly recommend.
Great food and wonderful staff. The portions are perfect for sharing as well.
South Beach was a little crazy. Wanted seafood after a workout. The seafood was done well. Again I was full after eating. Needed a box. I first ordered the grilled octopus. Finished that then ordered the grilled pescado with mixed Mariscos . The seafood was cooked in a sauce that was good. For south beach, the price was great. It was so pack here on New Years, they could have charged a lot more. I wanted Ted to be seated. Anyway I enjoyed the meal
This is a great spot for dinner. It’s tucked away from the busy miami crowds, a good place for a calm bite to eat. I had the shrimp and fish garlic stew that came with rice. The portion was great for the price. And tried the soursop guanabana smoothie, it was light and refreshing. I’d be back to try their dessert menu, I was too full but it looked like great options.
Been there the other day with my wife, amazing food!!! We had two of the typical dishes from Peru, the ceviche in three different styles and the lomo saltado. Both amazing, I've been in Peru myself and I have to say that this was really similar to it. Dinner for two and a bottle of white wine, Pinot grigio from Italy, we spent 86$$$ which is more than a fair price in Miami. Service was good as well, we didn't had to get out wine from the basket even once. Surprisingly a nice place, we'll be back here for sure. Keep up with the good work!!!
Went there for lunch because I was missing my Stepdad’s cooking - and I was hungry. I asked to be seated. The woman was very sweet! Found me a table and ordered the Ají de Gallina with the white rice and a bottle of Chicha Morada. I had tears in my eyes and a knot in my throat. It was so good! Lots of European tourists so it was refreshing to speak to the staff in Spanish. It was pretty special.
Summary : If you want the right price for the right seafood, along with good ol' home cooked meal, this is the place. TLDR; May 2023 I have always missed a heart warmingly good sea food, as Korean. Living in Texas, good and safe seafood is always.....a luxury of a sort. Visiting Florida, my dire need to suffice my thirst for Ocean's embrace shivered. My tongue and the brain, their screams to rejuvenate their oceanic grace, made me wandering to this Peruvian Restaurant, Chalan the Beach. Reasons I would whole heartdly bring this place to your attention are: (Dr. Strange's first trip to multi verse would be a good visualization, but its in the sea.) 1. The fair price for more than fair food. (Just... ground breaking) Not many things ask for the rightfully deserved price these days; but this place offers it. Whatever you think to or actually pay, you will not even look at the check in the end. You will surrender not only your card, but a hefty tip as well, voluntarily, to "match" the price you think it deserves. I come from Dallas Texas. Fresh seafood is a luxury. And I will come back here to keep my memory bank fresh. 2. Great service, great atmosphere. Ms Gloria did wonders for us. She was not a server, but a guiding narrator for the deep ocean dive. She must have written the "Hitchhiking Guide to the Ocean" Chalan on the Beach is a perfect spot to end the day, quenching not only the thirst from walking under hot sun, but also satisfying the devouring hunger. Their Sangria plays Starbursts your tongue and fills top of the nose with fruity dry ice show, just to "Rock" your stomach with what's to come next, the main entres. Go with rice, if you want to feel every single rice piece playing carimbo, all body painted with concentrated seafood gravie, popping on top of your tongue with lightly crusted bottom. Too much fun. Go with noodles, but spicy. That hot and spice will kick in the full flavors of seafoods to your jaws like a freaking mule, right in the spot. Parking would be a problem, but I would park bit far next time, and waltz my way down to Chalan to remind my last visit to get watery mouth. I would say Chalan should be the first visit for the first timers to set the "Standard" of what proper seafood served should be from any next visit, but will make you come back. Because nothing beats the warmth of home cooking. Thank you Chalan.
I walked over 1h to get there but it was worth it. Excellent food and service. The only thing that was not perfect was the ceiling light mixed with a fan, causing constant flickering in my eyes. It only affects you in some places in the restaurant but it can be very annoying when the fan is running fast. For owners: Consider wall lights instead of ceiling lights with these fans.
Good eating, Great Peruvian food on South Beach. The dish I had is called Pescado Tropical. Rice with veggies, shrimp and cream sauce on top of fried Bass fish, skinless baked potato, With side of tomatoes, orange slice, pineapple, and a cherry on top of lettuce. Because of the covid restrictions the service was slow but well worth the wait for hot fresh food.
My first time having Peruvian food and it was really good. I had the Grilled Palomilla with fried eggs and plantains with white rice and Peruvian white beans. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich but received the grilled fish sandwich. We were not disappointed. Everything was really good. I would definitely recommend this place.
Ive heard the Peruvians are the best with seafood, and now im convinced. Thought i had good ceviche in Chicago, but this stuff in Miami is next level. All the seafood we had from soup to assorted seafoods with rice, were phenomenal. The combination of Florida, Peruvian, and seafood was just too perfect!
We are staying in Miami Beach for three nights and we came here today for lunch. We had the shrimp and calamari ceviche, and then we had a beautiful fish and shrimp with bachamel sauce with mushrooms. The ceviche was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the fish with shrimp was so delicious and creamy. It’s a really comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, and the food is off the charts good. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I had never tried Peruvian food. We enjoyed it. My loves soups and the soup she had was flavorful and spicy. The food I had was good, although the meat was a bit overcooked. There were 3 tables that arrived after us that got their food before us. The guy next to us must have been a regular because as soon as he showed up, they took his order and delivered his food promptly. He finished eating before we even got our food. Our server was friendly and attentive. The overall atmosphere was good. We ordered Peruvian beer and it was good.
We had a great experience this restaurant 5 years ago on family vacation. And we’ve talked a lot this place to friends for must visit restaurant in Miami. We went there during this summer vacation and it didn’t make a disappointed again! Best Food ever!! It was hard to chose menu in variety good choices. Strongly recommend!!
In an area where reviews can often be inflated, and prices don’t match the actual quality of food, Chalan on the Beach is a gem. This Peruvian joint is delicious. Yes, prices can be on the higher end, but it is on par with other restaurants on the beach. That said, they do not automatically add 20% to all checks like most other restaurants in the area do. As a Miami Beach native, this is one of the few restaurants on the beach I still go to, and recommend it to anyone who visits.
The food here is just delicious! I love the staff as well. We were served by Elizabeth and she was outstanding! Great recommendations. Pleasant service. The food was sooooooo good! Ate it all before I could take pics. We will definitely be back.
The chaufa de mariscos and Aji de gallina dishes were very fresh and flavorful. The cilantro hot sauce they make in house is absolutely to die for. I wish I knew how to make this at home.. sangria was also wonderful. Great service. Thank you!
First time trying Peruvian cuisine—and pleasantly surprised! Today I wasn’t feeling well and was looking for a place within walking distance that served a good soup. That’s when I came across Chalan on the Beach, a cozy Peruvian restaurant. I was hesitant at first since I’ve never tried Peruvian food before, but I walked in and asked if they had chicken soup that day—they confirmed, so I gave it a try. I started with the chicken soup, which was comforting and just what I needed. While browsing the menu, I decided to order the Arroz con Mariscos as well—and I’m so glad I did! It was flavorful, rich, and cooked perfectly. Definitely the highlight of my meal. There was a small hiccup with service: my order wasn’t registered initially, so it took longer to be served. However, Paravia, one of the waitstaff, quickly stepped in and turned the situation around. She was kind, supportive, and kept checking on me to make sure everything was sorted—her service made a big difference in my experience. In the end, the food quality and the genuine hospitality (especially from Paravia) made this a great first impression of Peruvian cuisine. I’d definitely come back again—especially for that Arroz con Mariscos!
Nice and warm service but not a $, it's more like $$+. 5 entries and an appetizer cost $130. It's our first experience with Peruvian food. I was surprised that they don't eat much spicy. The tri-color seafood ceviche is full of fish cubes, shrimp and squid. Refreshing flavors. The other seafood dishes in sauces have comfort food flavor that goes will with rice.
A nice casual restaurant, I feel like this is a “normal people” restaurant that you can come anytime and just be yourself, unlike much of South Beach. It’s not fancy and that’s actually a relief haha. I came for the whole fried snapper as I adore whole fried fish, it’s ENORMOUS! The photo doesn’t really capture the scale. I think this is best shared between 2-3 people (along with an extra side or perhaps an appetizer). I was by myself and it was way too much!! To be honest my snapper was a bit overcooked, but hey mistakes happen. My server was super sweet, I would absolutely come back, just with friends to help me eat :) I’ve heard they have great ceviche so want to try that next time.
This restaurant has amazing food! Absolutely loved the ceviche (we got the mixto version with fresh bass and calamari, the citrus sauce was to die for), and the seafood fried rice reminded me of one I grew up eating with grandparents growing up, it was so good it brought a happy tear to my eye 🥰 Loved the tree leches cake too, not pictured here though. Must visit if in the area!!
It is a small restaurant with a friendly costumer service and efficiency. Our server Isabela was very nice explaining the variety of the menu. We are definitely coming back. P.s the food was delicious and the price was just right. We recommend.
Very good Peruvian food. Not the best I've had but very good. The highlight of the meal was the tripple fish ceviche. Huge portions ans so much flavor. The Lomo saltado wasn't that good. The sauce could have used more flavor but the steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. The fried yuca with yellow sauce were delicious. I'd skip the Lomo next time and just do ceviche which is top tier. Service was great. Nice atmosphere.
What to say about Chalan on the Beach? This really is once of the best Peruvian Restaurants in Florida. We've been there twice, with a few years apart from each visit and we're so pleased that they are still open. The pescado a lo macho, parihuela and ceviches are amazing!! So much flavor in a dish is just an insult to other restaurants, but hey! they'll have to work harder to be better. The service is good and nice but they are right on Collins in the busy South Beach area, so since you know this, please split tables more evenly or have more help for your servers. The beer is overpriced although it is imported and yes, we are in South Beach. But still... The desserts are great good but I'm sorry, I have had better tres leches cake. Additionally, I do see many new offerings for dessert but you took away some others that we like. PLEASE, you NEED to have Lucuma Ice Cream!!! What is more Peruvian than Lucuma? Maybe only Ceviche, so fix that. Keep up the good job!
Enjoyed my whole time here! We were greeted and seated quickly even though it was bustling on a Thursday night. The lomo saltado was easily our favorite dish; the sauce the meat has is so good you wish you had more rice! The mixed ceviche was good, definitely packed a punch with the lime flavor, and each type of seafood was tender. We tried chicha morada for the first time and thought it tasted like a sweet grape juice with a corn flavor. We got the coconut flan to go which was a pleasant way to end the night. Our server was sweet and service was great.
Good service and good food. This restaurant is located near the busy tourist areas. The ceviche was alright, we ordered a trio and it was a good appetizer. However, the lomo saltado was really the star of the night. The fried whole snapper was good but it was fried a bit too much so the fish ended up being pretty dry and tasteless - it definitely needed something. Overall, the service was quick and friendly and the food was alright, but it’s what I would expect for this area.
The food there is very good and delicious but there is a problem: for an average eater the potions are way to big. We tried to share the Ceviche (2 persons) but that was almost a main dish for both of us. The personal seamed to know that their portions are very big but did not inform us on the fact. Don’t geht me wrong everything was delicious- but I hate it if I have to send food back just because the portions are ginormous. I advise to study the fotos here and decide based on that :)
The fruit smoothies are great recommend. The food was good. I had the fried rice calimari it was ok and the chicken soup was good. The staff was great very friendly.
Went here in hopes of some real food that’s actually healthy but no luck. The food is ok. The service is good. The atmosphere is just ok. We ordered the whole snapper and a seafood fried rice dish. Also ordered a salad that was completely iceberg lettuce. None of the food served to be fresh and they had no sauces to help make up for the lack of flavor. I was disappointed.
Service ok, but when i have 15% they won’t even said bye. Really? Food? Ceviche was so sour, I can’t really feel the taste of it, they have over marinated it. Believe, I’ve been to Peru, have tried so nany ceviches, and this one is not worth even 3* Giving it just for a cozy atmosphere
I had a very disappointing experience here. The staff was extremely rude, and the food was not worth the price. After paying a 15% tip, I was stopped at the exit by an employee who refused to let me leave unless I increased the tip to 25%. I felt pressured and uncomfortable, and this completely ruined the mood of our visit. Forcing a tip — especially with poor service — is unacceptable. I would avoid this place if you don’t want your holiday experience spoiled.
I sat there for exactly 17 minutes, and no one came to take my order. I tried calling the waitress, but she just ignored me. They only brought me water, and that was the extent of my service for those 17 minutes.
