I've been here twice now and plan on definitely coming back for more of their super valuable lunch special! First off, it starts at 10 am (which is how I found it when craving Mexican for breakfast) and goes all the way till 4 pm. All of their 6 lunch specials come with rice, refried beans, and a soda. My favorite is their Combo #1 mini burrito cochinita and 1 tostada de pollo. The mini burritos are not that mini! I also think that their food taste way more flavorful than other local Mexican joints in the area. Plenty of food so that I always have leftovers to take home. This is a new go to lunch spot for me and I can't wait to take other friends here!

Went to "El Donkey" for the first time a few nights ago and this restaurant is a sleeper. Great service, food is top notch, with that Mexican food taste 100%. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

What I liked: cozy atmosphere, delicious authentic Mexican cuisine, friendly table service. What I didn't like: long menu. I visited El Donkey on a Wednesday night around 9pm. I was hesitant to enter as it was close to closing time, but the friendly hostess assured me that it was no trouble and that I was welcome. There were only a couple other patrons, so the atmosphere was quite pleasant with mariachi music playing softly in the background. Shortly after being seated, our hostess brought us fresh tortilla chips and a chunky red salsa and left us to peruse the menu before taking our order. There is a large variety of dishes to choose from, so picking something might take some time, especially on your first visit. I ordered on the Sopes al pastor and a michelada at my dinner date's suggestion. Our food and drinks were ready about 15 minutes later. The corn cake was fried golden, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meat was flavorful and the guacamole & sour cream were cool and refreshing. The michelada packs a spicy kick so be prepared. Overall, it was a delightful little surprise to find a place like this in Kendall. Will definitely be coming back for more

We tried this place b/c we really like to try to support the restaurants in our neighborhood. Wow! This is really authentic mexican cuisine! We loved it! We got an el donkey burrito (this is two meals of food!) and also the poblano mole. A lot of mole sauces just end up bitter - this one had a really lovely sweet and spicy flavor that was just really great! The chips and salsa were fresh. We also found out that they deliver! Our favorite mexican restaurant now!

Super clean restaurant, as of yesterday when I visit, it is being pre cautious about covid19. 6ft apart, clean, mask. I order el super donkey burrito and it fed 3 of us. Really good accompanied with chips and salsa. I also order the sampler platter for 2 for breakfast 😁 it was BOMB! I highly recommend this spot.

The most delicious Mexican food we have found in South Miami! We had the guacamole, the Chile relleno and the mole Poblano enchiladas. Everything was delicious from the chips and salsa to the last morsel of our entres. I am Mexican so, I know what I am talking about. I can’t wait to go back and try other dishes!

Took my family today after hearing great reviews from friends and instead of taking the drive to Homeastead as I usually do for my Mexian fill. Having a Mexican spouse she is very demanding on the quality of the mexican food. Here in el donkey we where greeted with a smile and entered a nice enviroment, I decided to try the Donkey Burrito and I eat alot and was pretty full before reaching the end of the burrito. My wife had the typical Horchata which she said was the best she has had outside of Mexico. Visit them with a sure shot that you will be full and will not break the bank!!

Wow! 1st time here! The food was excellent! The service was beyond reproach! The two girls waiting on the tables where so nice! Water was full they even gave us extra salsa to take home! Will definitely be coming back! We had the chicken taquitos as an appetizer and the guacamole! Both delicious! The guacamole was fresh! The we ordered the el pastor Burrito and chicken fajitas! I love the service here and the food. The waitress was super understanding of my lack of knowledge for the menu and she patiently explained everything I asked her. The margaritas are very delicious and strong. They have daily specials on food and drinks. The food portions are huge I had to take more than half of my plate home because I was so full. The place is not easily seen when driving by so luckily Google exists and I was able to find it because of it's great reviews! I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend when he was in town because we wanted some good tasty Mexican food and I'm so happy we decided to go to El Donkey Mexican Grill. I'm basing this review on only one visit but trust me I'll be back to this restaurant and if there is any changes I will update but as of now I would reccomend this spot to anyone and everyone. Oh and also the waitress didn't understand English very well but luckily I spoke Spanish but before I let her know I spoke and understood Spanish she was super professional and was willing to go get another server to accommodate the language barrier and again she was super patient with us because my boyfriend doesn't speak Spanish so I was translating all her answers about the menu to him and she stood there with a smile which is always comforting because no one like a rude server lol!

I cannot say enough good about this place. Fresh, delicious, great service, underpriced for what you get. Cold beer or bring a bottle of wine, reasonable cooking fee. Get the guacamole. We've been many times, everything is delicious. Super casual.

I have been eating here since they opened. This is by far the best Mexican grill around. To date, I've had almost everything on their menu, but I've had at least 11 Donkey Burritos.......rediculous flavor and size. I really love the staff! Charming and curious.

Really great enchiladas and mole, super fresh salsa, guac and chips and their spicy sauce is fantastically smokey. Place has a great vibe with colorful walls and decor, is very clean and staff is very friendly. New favorite local Mexican place hands down.

First time here. Food is good with large portions. They had life music which was actually nice. Not too loud and woman sang romantic song - right entertainment for dinner.

Food and service was very good! We got lucky and we were the only customers tonight. Call me picky but the only reason for not giving 5 stars is because the menu was encrusted with food from a previous customer.

Tasty, I just wished they included limes with their pick up orders. I ordered the chicken taco and when i got back to the office ready to enjoy 🌮 there was no lime ☹.

I actually came from tampa and this was the best review mexican restaurant in the Area that i was going to and the service was amazing Came her me for the first time. food was delicious but I give them 4 stars because the cleaning was not to good with these covid thing they should have soap in there bathroom and the floor was so slippery I almost feel way to much soap on the floor but I would definitely come back again.

Pleasant and efficient service, good prices, good food with a broad menu. Highlight of what we had was the mole poblano. And you can ask for the house hot sauces if you want to turn up the heat.

This is a great little local place with really good food. The Donkey has pretty good size portions and the prices aren't at all bad. One of the best Mexican spots between North Miami and Homestead.

Such good food and plenty of it! We spent many years looking for a really tasty, reliable and casual Mexican restaurant in Miami's suburbs. We found it in El Donkey! They even have cactus/nopalitos on the menu. We do takeout so that the restaurant, which is a small business, can reap the financial benefits.

Restaurant gives you chips and salsa which was very mild along with a hotter choice. Large menu. Food was really good. Also the sangria was worth drinking. The service was good but was slow getting our check. Will definitely go back.

First time going there, it was going great.... until my girlfriend takes a whole blonde hair out of her mouth. Bad first experience. They re-did the plate and they tried to accommodate us with a desert at the end on the house. But the damage was done already.

I have been calling them for forty minutes at this point to place my order and nothing. I understand there is a storage for employees but even before they were struggling in the service department. Service was the worst, the food was cold and horrible.... the beans super burn, too pricey, all they said was I’m sorry and charge everything even do we left almost all the food caused to the nasty taste. Will never go there again. I asked for the manager , she never came and offer a $2 discount from almost $80 that was the total. Worst place ever , no wonder why it was empty!

I would never want someone to lose their business. they have no cheese dip, no sweet tea, i asked for lemons and got limes. they dont have lemons. the salsa isnt any good. and the place is fairly dirty. the main meals are decent. and they didnt have enough change to give me after I paid. you guys need to do better.

If what you are looking for is a good cold beer and some good nachos this is the place. The "refrito" of Tuesday July 27th was a disaster. It had a smoky flavor, they burned the "refrito". The food is like beer, very cold. And the tacos had no flavor and were overcooked, the meat and chicken dry. Lets talk about service. Nobody received me, after a while a decide to seat by my self, after a while they bring me nachos with sauce and after a while since I had finished the nachos they ask me what I want to order. Without offering drinks before. If you want to stay in business there are many changes to make. I already learned my lesson, as long as I go to a restaurant and only have 1 employee and it is like this experience, I must go to a better place. 😉

Order was Late, Food was Disgusting, and there were Missing Items. The food was cold. "Fresh tortilla chips" had french fries sprinkled throughout the bag--and not in a good way like "here are some bonus goodies". More like gross they just haphazardly mixed in some old fries. Never again!

I realize that it was Cinco de Mayo however I had to personally go inside and speak to the owner twice to get service on our table and despite promises to take our order, it never happened so we ended up leaving with our bellies empty and a huge frown on our faces. Unfortunately the sinco de mayo event was a total disaster. Under staff for just a big day. 2 hours waiting for our drinks and food and never got it. Everyone was just sitting waiting for food and nothing!! They should have prepared in advance hiring staff.

If I could rate 0 I would. Our food was not what we expected of a typical Mexican restaurant. The Chile Rellenos were very bland and had no flavor. The sauce used was also too watery that it didn’t retain any flavor at all. My wife ordered the Camarones a la diabla which weren’t even spicy at all. We were told they don’t make their plates spicy due to their clientele. Not sure what that meant. When we asked for a discount from the food as we did not enjoy it we were met with some hostility. The lady we spoke with accused us of calling their food old and reheated which we said no such thing. She flat out said no discount will be given. We paid and left immediately. Do not recommend.

We came here because of the great reviews but it was an absolutely horrible experience for us. Service was slow (waited over 30 minutes for our food to come out and it wasn’t even all at the same time), food was ok (rice lacked color, seasoning and tasted burnt), a larger party that arrived after us was served before us. We had to remind the waitress for literally everything (had no salsa for our food until we asked again). She left trash on our table throughout the entire meal. The bathrooms were nasty. This is a one and done for us.

My last stop there was about a year ago. I walked in and sat at one of the four tables located just inside the entrance before you walk into the larger dining room. I always sit at these four tables when I dine alone coming after work on my way home. After I sat down, immediately this skinny older man, sitting at one of these four tables, doing paperwork, snapped at me and said there were more tables in the larger dining area. He didn’t smile or say hello, nothing else. He was so rude, so curt and I was offended and shocked. Like it bothered him to look across his table and see me there or something. With all the paperwork in front of him and the way he spoke to me it appeared he worked there like a manager or maybe the owner. I was a regular patron for a couple years before this happened. If I were skinnier or in a different ethnic group I can promise you he would not have treated me like that. What a bias sorry excuse for a man to treat any paying/tipping customer so rudely. And the staff knew me and that I am always polite. I didn’t order and just walked out and never returned. He did not try to stop me.

Not sure how this place has so many good reviews. We were a party of 2 so not a large group to cause a delay. The food took a long time fo arrive, the appetizer came with one main dish the other main dish arrived 15 minutes later. The churrasco a la mexicana was not well seasoned and looked like they just threw a can of tomatoes on top. There was also a hair on one of our main dishes. We will not be returning

I was here today, every single item i got (including drinks and a side) was charged at $1 more than what was on the menu. When we brought it up to staff, they essentially said they knew that the menus were wrong and offered no remedy. So between my boyfriend and I we ordered 5 items. Which amounted to $5 more on our tab. Which then added $5 to a total that we paid gratuity on. Not a big deal for 2 people. But when it’s a larger group; incredibly dishonest practices.
