No sushi spot in Miami compares to this place. No fuss sushi, fresh, clean and great portions. Yo go there to eat great Japanese food. Not to see and be seen. A low profile location in which you have to wait over an hour for a table if you don’t have a reservation.
I had one of the best sushi experiences of my life at Matsuri! We ordered the $100 combo, and it was absolutely worth it. The selection was beautifully crafted with a variety of cuts, each one fresh and full of flavor. The quality, presentation, and attention to detail were outstanding. It was truly an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to come back!
If you’re planning on going to Matsuri on a Friday night, be prepared for a bit of a wait — we had about an hour before being seated — but it was absolutely worth it. The restaurant was packed and buzzing, but once we sat down, the service was quick and efficient. We started with a glass of plum wine, which was very sweet and paired perfectly with the appetizers. The fried pork dumplings came out hot and crispy, and the sauce that came with them was to die for. For sushi, we ordered the Matsuri Roll, the Alaskan Roll, and the X Roll — and while everything was delicious, the X Roll easily stole the show. Overall, Matsuri delivers amazing food, quick service despite the crowds, and a lively atmosphere. Definitely worth the wait!
I’m lowkey breaking the code even writing this, but credit where credit’s due. Matsuri, off Bird Road in that lil’ strip mall—you already know if you’re from around here. This place has been holding it down for years, and somehow it still flies under the radar while serving straight fire. This is some of the best sushi in Miami. Forget the flashy Brickell joints with their overpriced “experience” and vibes-for-the-’Gram. Matsuri is where you go when you want that real Japanese flavor. You slide in, sit down, and if you know what’s up—you order the Tomo Tomo. That thing right there? Game over. It’s elite. Every bite is a reminder that this ain’t your average sushi spot. The Toro? Melts like butter. The Hamachi? Clean, rich, and smooth—it hits every time. They don’t miss. And the best part? The quality is top-tier but the vibe stays humble. No ego, just excellence. Yeah, there’s usually a wait, but that’s part of the ritual. It builds the anticipation. And when your name finally gets called, it’s go time. The staff? Super chill, always showing love, making you feel like a regular even if it’s your first time. With all these new sushi joints popping up left and right, trying to do too much, Matsuri stays consistent, classic, and absolutely undefeated. It’s the sushi OG of South Miami. It’s family. So yeah—I probably shouldn’t be putting this out there. But if you know, you know. Just don’t blow up the spot too much. Let the real ones keep eating in peace.
I absolutely love this sushi spot! It's become a cherished tradition for my dad and me to visit, and we always leave feeling satisfied and happy. The quality of the food is consistently impressive, from the melt-in-your-mouth otoro to the fresh, flavorful salmon. Every bite is a delight, showcasing the skill and care that goes into each dish. The atmosphere is also inviting, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal together. I highly recommend coming here if you're looking for top-notch sushi—it's truly a gem!
Amazing food and service. See photos for what we chose. Wait times were a bummer though. We were told that for a table of 2 it’d be ~40min. A bit too long but we decided to wait. It then took 52min. The restaurant is very small. Service on the table was amazing, the hostesses in the front though weren’t too friendly. A bit of empathy with people waiting for so long would be nice. Also recommend the miso soup. It was delicious.
Matsuri has the best raw fish for the best price you can find in Miami. The quality of the sashimi is outstanding, always fresh and full of flavor, especially considering how reasonable the prices are. The place is not fancy at all and you will probably have to wait in line, but it moves quickly and is absolutely worth it. My recommendation is to arrive early to avoid a longer wait. We ordered the Tomo Tomo for two and everything was incredibly fresh and high quality. I will definitely be coming back very soon.
Really glad I made the reservation in advance. The quality to price ratio here honestly blew me away. Good sushi for potentially $30 per person! They have a pretty expansive menu too with stuff like okonomiyaki.
Matsuri is truly one of Miami’s hidden gems. I went there for my birthday and had an amazing experience — the sushi was incredibly fresh, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The quality and variety were outstanding, especially considering the price. We ate a lot, and the bill came to around $35 per person, including tax and tip — which is almost unheard of in Miami for sushi this fresh. The salmon and tuna practically melted in your mouth, and every dish tasted like it had just been prepared moments before. While the restaurant itself isn’t overly fancy or modern, it has a cozy, traditional Japanese feel that adds to the charm. Honestly, many of the city’s high-end sushi spots can’t compare, even though they charge several times more. If you’re looking for truly great sushi in Miami without spending a fortune, Matsuri is the place to go.
Had an awesome dinner at Matsuri! Started with a cold Sapporo served in a perfectly chilled glass — such a nice touch. Everything was super fresh and authentic — felt like eating in Japan! Only small downside was the table being a bit too small for all our dishes, but overall, we absolutely loved it and will definitely be back!
One of the best casual sushi restaurants I’ve been to. So good I almost want to gatekeep. Everything tastes so fresh, and the prices are unbeatable. Would come here all the time if I lived in Miami. So many options and the sashimi is incredibly well priced. This place is recommended by a lot of Japanese people and I see why. There is a long wait most of the time and they do not take reservations but it is worth the wait. We had a party of 7 if I recall correctly and they accommodated us despite the restaurant being quite tight.
Matsuri is hands down the most authentic, freshest and for sure the best Japanese restaurant in all of Miami and South Florida. Miso, Nato, Special Sahimi.

OUR SERVER AI WAS AWESOME. SUPER FAST SERVICE GREAT FEESHNESS IN EVERY BITE
I have always wanted to try this place. My husband suggested it. It was amazing. Every dish was delicious and surprising. We ate everything and then ordered dessert. My favorite was The Invitation to the White House. Lightly charred, fragrant sesame seeds, tender fish, so good. We will make this a regular spot!
Excellent restaurant with delicious food and very fair prices. The lunch sushi box is a great deal and it's a delicious option. Parking is easy and free. The service is quick and very professional. It's a very popular option in this area of Miami.
always fantastic, ordering in or in person! best sushi in miami.
Unbelievable quality, prices unmatched. This place deserves the highest recognition. Constantly travelling the world for work and leisure and have yet to find a spot like this.
Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in all of Miami or South Florida for that matter in terms of value for price and quality!
Delicious food, authentic Japanese. Fast and great service, great prices
Been coming here for 25+ years best sushi in town
MATSURI. NEVER. MISSES! We brought some friends from out of town to show them what’s up with a down home, old school Japanese spot and they were completely surprised with how much they LOVED Matsuri. Great pricing, great food, great atmosphere & great service. We even came in an hour before closing & they absolutely crushed on ALL fronts. Absolutely love this place.
Definitely recommend reservations to this place. Once seated we were served right away, not rushed but efficiently took our order and got our food quickly. Sushi and donburi were excellent! Miso soup was not watered down but flavorful. Once you try here you'll know why there is such a long line to get in!
One of Miami's best sushi. Matsuri has been here for the longest time and hasn't changed. Always fresh and delicious. It has a large sushi bar area which we love. Most of the time this is where I like to be seated, although it has lots of tables and great ambiance throughout. Try Matsuri... it will soon be one of your favorites as well.
Service is never great but as to be expected. Usually when your product is so good you don’t really care about the service. Still go every week, that’s how good it is.
Delicious sushi, made with great quality ingredients. The service is super friendly and welcoming—such a great experience overall.
I went here for lunch and purchased the teryaki lobster. I didn't really taste the teryaki and that may be due to the vegetables mixed in. I also ordered the conch. The conch appeared to be steamed with other vegetables. It had somewhat of a sweet taste to me. I next ordered the wakame. I like seaweed salad. The meal came with a side or rice. Overall very good
Wow. This is the place I’ll order from if I’m in the mood of sushi. We ordered two go-to-ren specials for two and I have no words to explain how delicious it was, it had the famous fatty tuna (check the second picture for a closer look) and other buttery fish. We also ordered some rolls to complement the top quality fish (I forgot to take a picture). There are a lot of people that seem to like the restaurant because when we picked up our order there were a lot of people eating and waiting to pick up their orders. I definitely recommend trying this place.
Matsuri was an amazing experience! Every bite of food was so full of flavor. Lunch time you can eat with $12 menu. The wait staff were so nice and attentive. I could not recommend the Sashimi & Tempura lunch box enough! No simple to find parking but it’s ok. The restaurant is Always full, then be patient!
Calling all sushi snobs! I’m a NYer who moved down to Miami and was devastated by the sushi situation here (compared to Manhattan). Nothing authentic and fresh (without tempura and cream cheese), unless you spend a lot of money on a high end omakase restaurant. Matsuri has solved this problem!! Finally found an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. Even though it’s not close to where we are in Brickell it’s worth the Uber ride. It’s like what you’d get in Japan. If that’s what you’re after, Matsuri is a must!! (Annoying they don’t take reservations though)
Food was good as well as prices. Loved the flavor experience, highly recommended. Waiting was worth it.
Amazing!! Get there when they open or you'll be waiting. Great service, delicious, fresh sushi.
The best sushi restaurant in Miami EASY! I’m not Japanese or a sushi chef, but as someone who has lived in Japan and tried several omakase experiences, I can say that this place is worth the price and then some! The food is delicious, authentic, sizeable and the service is excellent. If you want a taste of REAL sushi in Miami, you found your spot !! (I recommend the chirashi bowl🍚 )
Great experience, delicious food and awesome staff. Come for an excellent Japanese meal.

I’ve heard about this place for a while, different people told me that it worth to go there even in traffic🤣 and now I can say the same)) The place is very nice. We didn’t make a reservation so we had to wait 40min. So it’s better to make reservations. Excellent service👌 food was amazing! I will definitely return for their miso soup and scallops sushi🤤 rolls we very tasty. Huge free parking lot in front of the restaurant. And the best part is the price. 2 rolls, 2 soups, tea(my favorite part was hot tea refill), 5 pieces of sushi and shrimp dumplings = $60 I will definitely come back!
The sashimi here is the best I’ve ever had. Thick cuts of fresh fish. The sushi was delicious. 🔥🔥🔥
Ever since moving to Miami from up north five years ago, finding a solid sushi spot has been our mission. Matsuri is the place that checks all the boxes—affordable, nearby, and excellent quality. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. My wife and I especially enjoy going during their lunch specials. The Bento Box meals are not only delicious and filling, but also a great value. The restaurant is usually packed, but the short wait is absolutely worth it. Parking can be a bit tricky, but here’s a tip: you’ll have better luck on the Milam’s side since shoppers are in and out frequently. We find ourselves coming here at least once or twice a week, and it never disappoints!
Fantastic neighborhood spot. Great price / value. Food is delicious and fresh. Fun vibe too. Will be coming back again and again. Upset at my friends for holding out and not recommending it sooner to me. I will not make the same mistake and am happy to share this review on the same night I first tried it. I am a good friend. Be a good friend and tell your friends about this gem.
I have never had sushi so fresh. The hurricane salad Is delicious. The charbroiled squid is amazing. Everything about our experience was great and memorable. I highly reccomend if you are into good fresh sushi.. and at a decent price. Make sure And be prepared to wait cause this place is always packed!!
I didn't expect to find authentic Japanese food in Miami. The ingredients were so fresh that I honestly had an illusion that I was in Japan. However, the shop is always crowded, so you need a little patience. The Japanese menu is also humorous and interesting, so Japanese people are paying attention.
Hands down, the BEST sushi I have ever had. I work for a Japanese-owned company and our Japanese employees said it tasted authentic and was the best sushi they've had in the States. Everything was melt-in-your-mouth fresh. The service is quick because they want to fill the seats as quickly as possible - there's always a wait. I would definitely recommend making a reservation if possible. We were on a business trip and went to the restaurant twice while in town - once with a party of 9 and once with a party of 4. We were shocked at how reasonable the prices were! I'm going to be dreaming about this sushi.
I’ve been to Japan a few times, and Matsuri is the most authentic Japanese food I’ve had in Miami. The menu is HUGE all your favorite Japanese foods are on there, from sushi, to ramen, to yakitori, to vegetable tempura, Kara-age. The food is incredibly delicious, the beer ice cold, the food gets to your table very quick. My only complaints would be that the tables are too close together, this is a VERY popular restaurant in a VERY small space. If the space got bigger this would be a world class restaurant.
We have been coming to this restaurant for a few years now and I've meant to write a review before. This is real Japanese sushi! The sushi and sashimi here are very authentic and there is a varied menu. Excellent for a night out, to fine with the family and even pick up. There's usually a line because the place is not very big, but the wait is very much worth it. We love it!

The ambiance is cozy and unpretentious, popular for Coral Gables residents! While the wait can be lengthy, especially during peak hours, the quality of the food makes it worthwhile. For those seeking authentic Japanese dishes in Miami, Matsuri is a must-visit. 1163 roll is a must! this is a standout light, fresh, and packed with flavor. It’s an excellent choice for a low-carb option without compromising the taste. Tell them Flavia sent you!😀
Pretty good overall, the sashimi was cut into larger chunks than the slices I'm used to. The nigiri has smaller slices that aren't waterfalled over, which would be ideal. The miso soup is a bit too salty for me, which is odd because I like my food on the salty side. The fish seemed relatively fresh, and I'm a fan of the soy sauce they use.
Great ambiance and a very nice atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, but unfortunately I wasn’t completely satisfied with the fish quality or the sushi overall. Good spot for the vibe, but the food didn’t fully meet my expectations.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Matsuri and it was an incredible experience. Despite the fact that the restaurant was packed, there was plenty of parking available in the lot adjacent to the building. The standout feature of my meal was the incredibly fresh fish and seafood. Everything was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the sushi, which was some of the best I've had in a long time. However, what really made the experience memorable was the outstanding service provided by Jessy. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the meal, making excellent recommendations and ensuring that we had everything we needed. Overall, Matsuri is a must-visit for anyone who loves sushi and Japanese cuisine. With plenty of parking available and excellent service from Jessy, it's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a night out with friends.
Very delicious! Amazing fish. It was VERY crowded even when they just opened so I would recommend reservations for dinner and getting there right when it opens for lunch. I took off a star because the menu was hard to read and the waitress clearly seemed annoyed with questions about the menu items. It was busy so definitely understandable, but a bit frustrating.
Very authentic Japanese sushi, so FRESH a good quality fish, the todo tuna was delicious, I would say less WASABI on the nigiris, by far very good food good vibes 103$ for 2 people it’s fair, definitely I high recomend u to visit here if u like real sushi no fake sushi like other places.

Quaint place with plenty of free parking spots available just in from of the restaurant. We went on a Saturday at 5:00 pm and waited for about 20 minutes to get a table. This is an exquisite Japanese cuisine with a great ambiance and delicious food. We only tried the seafood salad, the X-roll, the gyozas ( really yummy ), Rock and roll, and the Alaska roll. Everything was fresh and tasty. The best is the service, Jessy took care of us and she was so knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations for the menu!! Thank you so so much! We had a great time. Hoping we can go again shortly!
We came for a quick weekday lunch and were surprised by both the line to get in and the good price-quality ratio (that might explain the line). Matsuri is a great option for japanese food and offers lunch specials (like teishokus) between Monday and Friday. We did like the sashimi, tempura and SM roll. We'll come back for the sushi for 2 and the tempura ice cream we couldnt order.
The sushi was delicious and excellent quality, however, service was bad. Upon check in I provided my name, the waiter wrote down a completely different name, I had to walk up to them to ask if they had called my name, and they advised they wrote “Daisy” down because that’s what he understood, never asked for spelling or corrected his understanding. Waiters were rushed, did not even offer water, and disorganized.

Took 5 minutes to get my water even before the lunch rush. Bento box arrived lukewarm and with a small entree portion w/ tough meat. Tempura was a large ball of onion and other veggies you had to rip apart vs actual pieces of tempura. Pretty disappointed. Skip the lunch box, go for sushi or donburi instead. Has a Japanese language menu upon request. Very nice.
We have been coming to Matsuri for many years and we have seen the decline in service, atmosphere and I have to say their bathrooms are repulsive. I question their higiene and I am not coming back!!! It’s unacceptable
They have a real Japanese menu. The sushi looked great. Onigiri was huge and yummy. Hamachi collar was wattery/not firm flesh. Our booth smelled weird. Next time I want to try the Saurey and Sushi. There were two servers, one who spoke Japanese and one who spoke Spanish, our sassy Spanish server seemed like she couldn't turn our table fast enough. We were there for lunch, where 90% of the restaurant was getting the bento boxes.
Regular for 5 years. Food is always good and at a decent price. Service is definitely below average most of the time, with the exception of 1-2 servers. Servers are often dismissive and not very hospitable, especially when you come in alone or in a party of two. My last three visits have me second guessing Matsuri, and that’s all because of the dismissiveness and poor attitude of the servers.
First the menu is very large and does not have any pictures so you can not even imagine which portion size it is, even the online one it is the same, large textbook to read. Also, as not a very familiar person with the restaurant food, having pictures would help to imagine what the food look like. Second, the avocado salad was really good. I would recommend it much. However, the roll that is cucumber and no rice, something in it tasted like soap. Truly soap that it was hard to eat and I shared it with friends and they felt the same soap taste. I would give it another try and see may be it would be better just because the salad was good.
Interiors were great, service was INSANELY fast despite it being very busy, restaurant was super clean, but the food was okay? The udon was probably one of the worst i've ever eaten, while the Tomo Tomo Special for 2 (the sushi platter) was ordinary, no frills, and was very filling. The miso soup was good but didn't have dried wakame seaweed.

The food was great. But service - they basically kicked us out after 45 minutes.. We ordered the top of the line Sashimi, Noodles and a Lunch box for my kids.. I was still chewing my food and not even half way thru out food when the lady came to charge me.. When I asked her to clean the extra plates, she refused- the owner watched and did nothing while the employee was saying “you don’t matter” to me and my kids.. must be nice to be so busy.. but it’s no way to service clients.
I order to go every Friday but after having to wait more than 30min passed they expected pickup time for 3 consecutive weeks they just lost my business,
What was once a reliable spot has clearly lost its way. The cleanliness issues alone are enough to turn anyone away - roaches casually strolling across the back wall while we tried to eat was absolutely revolting. The bench and floors looked like they hadn’t seen a proper cleaning in weeks. The bathroom situation was even worse, though I’ll spare you those details. For a restaurant, basic hygiene should be non-negotiable. The food quality has declined as well. They only offer regular soy sauce now - no low-sodium option for those who need it. The sushi rolls have noticeably shrunk in size, yet prices remain the same. Even getting basic napkins required multiple requests from seemingly indifferent staff. It’s clear that management has stopped caring about the customer experience. Until they address these serious cleanliness and service issues, I’d recommend taking your business elsewhere. There are too many other options to settle for this level of neglect.
Charged us $2 more for the blue fin ohtoro combo; Missed the one piece Hotate sushi that we also ordered and paid (check the last picture) I used to love this place so much, but ever since it gets always overpacked by either dine-in or pickup/takeout, I really wanna give up. I am a >10-year loyal customer, who used to recommend this restaurant to every one of my friends.
Sadly, Matsuri is no longer good. After going there at least twice a week for over 20 years, it has consistently gone downhill and disappointed me over the last several months. For years, it held the spot of one of the very few top authentic sushi restaurants in all of Miami. The quality and freshness of the fish was reliably superb. The chefs were highly trained. There was always a wait and it was always worth it. No longer.
Food is good, but the experience is a complete mess. I placed an order for three rolls at 6:00 PM with a 7:00 PM pickup time. It’s now 7:40, and they’re still not ready. No one seems to be in control—staff are running around, and it’s impossible to get anyone’s attention just to ask for an update. The chaos completely ruins what could be a good meal. Do not order from here!

This was an extremely frustrating and unprofessional dining experience, primarily due to the service. From the start, the service was poor. Water was not refilled in a timely manner, and we had to wait far too long for basic attention. On top of that, the server’s tone was impatient and unpleasant, making us feel rushed to order, as if we were an inconvenience rather than customers. It is important to clarify this clearly: We are non-English speakers, but that is absolutely not a valid reason to treat customers with disrespect, impatience, or poor attitude. Language barriers do not excuse unprofessional behavior. What completely crossed the line was the following: After receiving clearly inadequate service, I chose not to leave a tip. The server then confronted me directly, asking why I didn’t tip, and even claimed that she had “treated us very well.” That claim is hard to understand. Failing to refill water, speaking rudely, rushing customers, and showing no basic courtesy is not “good service.” Tipping is not mandatory, and it is certainly not something servers are entitled to demand or question customers about, especially after poor service. Confronting a customer over tipping is inappropriate, unprofessional, and disrespectful. The overall message from this restaurant is clear: They prioritize tips over service quality and feel entitled to challenge customers who don’t comply. If you expect basic professionalism, respectful treatment, and not being confronted over your tipping decision, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. I will not return, and I do not recommend it.
This used to be my go-to place for sushi about 10 years ago, it was excellent back then. Unfortunately, the quality has declined in recent years. According to the Florida DBPR, the restaurant was recently closed due to hygiene issues, with 34 total violations, including 12 classified as high priority. 🤮

Came here after being recommend by family and friends for sushi. Place is incredibly loud and a noxious can’t have a civil conversation with my parties. Despite the fact that you ask for menu items that are safe due to shellfish allergy they tell you nothing can be due to cross contamination rules or codes. They tell you to eat at your own risk. They then have you order food for them to completely forget about your meal while other parties are finishing their meals. No management available to speak to or address concerns per them too busy to assist. No credits on bill for inconvenience. Don’t come here if you have a shellfish allergy or want to have a nice night out. Go spend your money elsewhere
Unfortunately, I have to shareq my disappointment publicly because the manager I tried explaining the issue to was extremely rude. I have been eating at Matsuri for 20 years. Today we picked up our to go order and received an incredibly small portion of the soft shell crab - much smaller than the usual portion we get at the restaurant or in our past orders. I called to explain, thinking it was just an honest mistake. Instead, I was told that they made no mistake and that these are there portions and that if I didn't like I could stop ordering it. I offered to send a picture, explaining that I was a long time customer and that this wasn’t the usual portion. Unfortunately, the manager was extremely rude and basically told me he didn’t care. I know this restaurant is a beloved local staple and I hope they can turn it around and bring back their customer service.
I am extremely dissatisfied! My wife and I decided to order online and opted for the combo for two. However, the portions were surprisingly tiny, as if it was meant for one person instead of two. Even after finishing the meal, we were both still hungry. On top of that, they overcharged us for the combo, which was not worth the price considering the quantity and quality of the food. I strongly advise avoiding this deceptive restaurant and instead ordering two separate meals for two. The manager's response was, "This is how we have been running our business for the past 30 years."
I just found out from a Miami Herald article this place was shut down in Sept due more than 30 violations ranging from dead and stuck on walls roaches, flies, mold in ice machine to employees not washing hands and lack of proper sanitation behind the food preparation counter. They might have resolved the issues, and I've been going there for more than 20 years, but there's no way I will ever eat there again. Disgusting!
Worst dining experiences I’ve had in a while. Place is hyped up, so I walked into Matsuri expecting decent service and good food, but what I got instead was a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant. I sat for nearly fifteen minutes without a single greeting, no water, no menu absolutely nothing. When I finally did interact with the server, she was shockingly rude, unkind, and unwelcoming. The presentation of the food was no better. Usually, I enjoy photographing my meals when they look appetizing, but this was greasy, oily, and flat-out ugly so unimpressive I didn’t even bother. The taste matched the appearance: overly salty and poorly prepared. For a restaurant that presumably thrives on repeat customers, Matsuri seems to have no concern for hospitality, atmosphere which was super loads and packed like sardines, or presentation. Between the indifferent staff and the lackluster, unattractive food, I left feeling not just disappointed but outright disrespected as a customer. Save yourself the time and money there are plenty of restaurants in the area that actually value the people who walk through their doors.
Don’t bother reserving a table if you’re just two. They’ll make you wait forever and when you check back in to ask what’s going on, they’ll tell you because parties of 4 or more came in AFTER AND WITHOUT a reservation, they get to be seated first. I guess more $$$ in bigger parties. Slimy BS. There was also another couple outside that was completely forgotten about as well.
Updated 12/16/2025 The service here has really slid downhill. At lunch time it feels like I’m a New York City Korean diner. Hurried service with no desire to be helpful. Pork miso soup (Tonjiru) lacked flavor and tasted as hurried as the service. The sushi rice would give Jiro nightmares. The portions are what I suspect people come back here for. Thick slabs of fish on king-size beds of rice to fill you up. A value meal that loses all origin. And I don’t know why there’s a Japanese menu, there’s not a Japanese person in sight, let alone anything Japanese on the menu. Every dish feels watered down or over-sauced to cater to a local Hispanic-American palate that wouldn’t recognize the delightful seasonal, artful cuisine that is Nihon ryori if it fell into their lap. After decades of loyal patronage, I won’t be making the long drive to visit here again. There are too many options to eat here again. What a shame. Prior Review (11/20/2024) A good place for a casual lunch, not necessarily a cheap one. On this last visit, I found there was too much rice in the Nigiri, and it wasn’t even fresh tasting rice. The Toro Tzuke appetizer was an absolute fail and the miso soup was very weak. This place has always been about the no-frills local dining experience, but the added media attention and extra clientele has done nothing to help the quality of dining here. If I have the choice, I would rather go to Wabi Sabi, Midorie or Yasu Tanaka considering what you’re going to spend.
So disappointed. I won’t be returning back to matsuri. All started with our waitress displaying a noticeable lack of enthusiasm. She avoided eye contact and seemed bothered by our presence, making us feel uncomfortable When the food arrived we discovered a long black hair in one of the sushi pieces. When we politely asked our waitress to remove the contaminated sushi and bring the check, she seemed put off. To our surprise, she still charged us for the entire meal, minus only one sushi piece which we didn’t touch nor drink anything as we wanted to leave. Unfortunately, Matsuri has taken a significant step backward. The decline in service quality and attention to detail is striking. Unless they revamp their service standards, I would not recommend Matsuri to others.
I used to love Matsuri, but it’s gone way downhill. The food quality has dropped a lot — especially the fish. Cuts are super thick and sloppy now, and it just doesn’t taste fresh like it used to. Prices have gone up too, which makes it even worse. You’re paying more for way less quality. What really pushed me over the edge is seeing a video online showing worms in the fish — seriously, that’s unacceptable. I can’t recommend this place anymore. If you care about food safety or quality sushi, go somewhere else.
This place is absolutely terrible. I came here because it was recommended on Xiaohongshu, but it honestly feels like paid advertising rather than genuine reviews. The service was awful—the staff were extremely impatient and had a bad attitude the entire time. I genuinely don’t understand who they were acting that way toward; I certainly didn’t owe them anything. The food itself was very average at best, yet the prices were surprisingly high for what you get. Overall, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. I strongly recommend avoiding this place if you don’t want to waste your money and mood.
This place is the best at being rude to customers! Maximum points to the waitress who ignored my wife and I and treated us like she was doing us a favor! The food was a basic but that type of customer service is definitely something memorable!
Placed my order at 6:10, said it would be ready at 7:07pm. It’s 8:04pm and I’ve been waiting for my pick up order for over an hour now. No answers as to what happened, no apologies. I’ve seen people come in after me, get seated, finish eating, and leaving. This is absolutely unacceptable.
